Tarnished Coast – Dissentient [DIS]

We are still planning on implementing this. We’ll have more information as we get closer.
Wait…. This wont get implemented with this patch?
Not sure what to do here…..crying in a corner seems reasonable.
It was mentioned in an interview that they’d hoped to get it in this patch but it wasn’t ready.
A similar thing happened once before, don’t remember what it was, but something was delayed because it wasn’t quite ready. The forums promptly filled up with the sky is falling threads and then it came in the next patch two weeks later.
I’m not saying we’ll have account wide WXP in 2 weeks, but I don’t think it will be long.
Perhaps a better idea might be to place the reset on Saturday rather then Friday. I think that time, and perhaps even earlier, would work on a Saturday.
Another idea would be just to move it back one hour, which makes it exactly the same as it was before daylight savings.

Also wanted to say a good way to think about a feature and losing or changing it i s to think of it in these terms.
Is this a feature I MUST have, SHOULD have, COULD have, or DON’T have to have. It’s easy to want everything but difficult to recognize which category something actually falls into for the good of the game in general.
I really think we’re going off on the wrong track here. We shouldn’t be talking about taking things away from guilds, or trying to justify keeping features.
I mean, the only thing my guild has that it doesn’t really need is the world event stuff, but is there anything to be gained by taking that away? I don’t think so.
The problem is not that people are in too many guilds, the problem is that people don’t know what’s happening in the guilds they are members of.
(edited by Nabrok.9023)
I would say that midnight on a day where most people don’t have work or school the next day is a LOT more convenient than right in the middle of work/school.
Please reconsider this until you find a way to separate the reset times.
1. Most players don’t care about town clothes. I could count on one hand the number of times I’ve worn them. Nobody in my guild is concerned about this at all. I’ve not even seen people complain about it on map chat.
2. The wardrobe is awesome.
3. They’re not going to hold back the awesomeness of wardrobe just because a minority of players can’t wear a hoodie anymore. If they did, there would be a MUCH bigger outcry on the forums.
4. If they are investigating options to allow use of these clothes, they’re not going to post it here, because if it turns out they can’t do anything people would be even more upset than they are now.
Well, this is going to get lost in the avalanche, but please A-net reconsider this.
First step would be to drop the ascended gear stats back to exotic levels. Second step would be to allow all existing exotics to become infused.
I don’t want to have to do one specific thing to get the best gear. The great thing about exotics is all the different way to obtain them. Neither do I want to carry around another set of gear for a specific purpose.
I’d also like to have more slots visible so I don’t have to scroll.
I see a variety of comments on feeling more attachment to a specific guild and a lot of talk of the # of guilds people are a part of and the fear that is causing a lack of attachment. This lack of attachment keeps players players from being compelled to belong to any of their guilds instead of being compelled to belong to all of them .
With all due respect Mr. Peters,
I believe the ability to join multiple guilds on this game is should not have existed at all. Very simply, it discourages guild loyalty and defeats the entire purpose of joining a guild in the first place.
Guilds are supposed to be a dedicated, close knit group of people. An ideal scenario would be a flourishing, active community in-game AND outside of the game, supported by communication programs such as IRC/forums/voice. The system now? Guilds having half the people not representing. Highly inactive/non-existent offsite interaction. Guilds are typically a hi-bye affair in the game.
People who say “I represent this guild today for WvW, then that guild tomorrow for PvE” – this isn’t how guilds are supposed to work. In my opinion anyway. Guilds are groups where people do different things together – not a “I come as I like” place. People who represent different guilds on different days as and when they like are akin to clan-hoppers.
But obviously, this isn’t just the fault of guild hoppers alone. The guild system design in this game is absolutely sub par – you want people to know as many different groups of people as possible, but do not allow players to participate in the chat of guilds they are not representing. This, to me is the biggest problem about the guild system, because it renders useless the participation of a player, simply because he/she does not know what is happening in other guilds.
I respect your decision to give people the ability to join multiple guilds, but I still believe it was a wrong one.
I can understand where this is coming from. I have played many MMORPGs which adapt the one guild per character system. So, basically, players will put their main characters in the main guild. Not only that, guilds in some MMORPGs have very limited slots. So, their alts might not even be allowed in the guild.
The players belonging to those guilds are much closer to each other in comparison to the players in Guild Wars 2. Perhaps, players are forced to interact with each other and these forceful interactions breed meaningful interactions.
Sadly, in guild wars 2, I have observed that many guilds are being treated like a service or running like a service provider while players are just numbers to perform certain activities. This type of guild is pretty meaningless, dull, uninteresting and pointless.
Some people might think that this is just a game and doesn’t have to get that serious into it; attachment, sense of belonging, loyalty, pride, etc. However, I think that a game can only be truly fun and interesting if people get that serious into it.
Great points here and I think what I am hinting at is that if there was a way to maintain the current guild functionality of multiple guilds but also add a way to really commit to a singular guild what are the features old and new that you think are important for your basic guilds vs you, for lack of a better term, “home” guild.
Jon
A primary guild for one person may not be the primary guild for another. We already have a way to commit to one guild. Those who choose to rep 99% of the time in my guild get a rank with a few extra privileges. I don’t see a need for more mechanics here.
We just need to see guild chat so that we know what a guild is doing.
Sure, we can go through and whisper all the non-repping members, but this is cumbersome and doesn’t work that well for "hey, I just jumped into BG BL, anyone want to join me?‘. They also don’t get to see the “flavor” of the guild through the general guild banter.
Guild loyalty/participation first comes from guild communication.
Uhm … you think this is a new thing? Mesmers hiding in keeps has been part of the game since day 1.
Just make sure you do a sweep after capping.
For the love of the gods, please add them to the wallet!
I enjoyed this more than Southsun Survival (though I did like that too).
Why isn’t Aspect Arena in the mini-game rotation?
I just do not understand we need specific world bosses now, I have 2 childrena and a family, and I never do triple trouble, and very, very, rarely go to Tequatl… Just because I do not have the time. Let’s see the temple of grenth appear next… nice and random spawn, and see how many peole like waiting forrever and having noobs doing the defence event if we need the conquer event for example. that wouldn’t be outrage, it would just mean people go and play something else, and ignore dailies.
And oh now we got to do pvp and wvw so we can be whole players? Who says so.
If A-Net thinks 10 AP’s is a better incentive then actual LOOT AT THE KITTEN EVENTS… Well: They are dumber then Skritt! Maybe Ooze level and not the chromatic ones, just the plain yellow ones, with immobilize. That’s what they do, they immobilize the game .
No, you don’t. All you have to do is gather some nodes in maguuma, use the MF once, and some Queensdale events.
You don’t have to do Jungle Wurm. You don’t have to PvP. You don’t have to do WvW.

Yes, I would pay to unsoulbind my molten pick on the necro and then pay again for the bone pick.
I’ve already bought two sets of each of the unlimited tools and am willing to buy more!
Please make it happen A-net!
I will never understand this compulsion that some have to get EVERY SINGLE AP, even if it means doing things they don’t like.
Did you ever consider that these are set up to be merely token rewards for people who really like each particular activity? And to ensure that they continue to get at least a small reward, even if they choose to play (something they like) an awful lot over wintersday? Or that they are not designed to be something where every player has to do every single one?
This game gets way more fun once you accept that you can’t/don’t need to do every single thing.
This! You don’t have to get every single AP (and this is coming from somebody who is about to hit 23k).
I pretty much ignore any limited time repeatables.
As for the dailies, you actually have to go and do them now if you want the reward for it or do 3 of them if you want the AP.
Before you’d get your daily pretty easily doing whatever, so they just took that reward and gave it to you anyway. If you want the rest of it, you have to go and get it. This is fine by me, and I think the new rewards are great, and often worth getting even if you’ve already done your 3 for the AP.
Lol, now he’s defending the company by a completely hypothetical future maybe.
The LS has failed so far. The only reason activity is as high as it is right now is because of A ) Hype and B ) waiting on other releases coming soon.
By this logic then, we should go back to the hard Trinity of Tank, Healer and DPS, and go back to instanced raids instead of open-world fights, because the because the system we have now doesn’t work, and although there’s potential for improvement, it’s hypothetical.
Also, where was I defending the company exactly? All I said was because the LS doesn’t compare to an expac now (which I haven’t the slightest on how you’d consider that ‘defending’), doesn’t mean that it can’t. Saying that the LS can only be what it is now is a logical fallacy.
Don’t joke about bringing the trinity and team strategy that goes with it back into the game. It’s a wet dream I have from time to time
While I have nightmares about waiting for a healer. Or that one time in LOTRO where somehow we had nothing but healers ….
No thanks. You can keep your trinity.
Additionally, if they mass-whisper as I suspect, then it is my theory that one could adjust the spam filter you already have on Map chat to catch too-frequent whispered messages. For instance, five in the span of one second. I doubt any legitimate player would be hindered by this particular filter.
There are some legitimate reasons for mass whispering. For example I’ll whisper every guild member who is not repping just before Guild Missions start. It’s probably not 5/second, but it’s pretty fast.
I see a variety of comments on feeling more attachment to a specific guild and a lot of talk of the # of guilds people are a part of and the fear that is causing a lack of attachment. This lack of attachment keeps players players from being compelled to belong to any of their guilds instead of being compelled to belong to all of them (which was the original intention of this design of guilds as more social groups rather than as exclusive cliques).
I’d love to see some discussion on how we could create greater attachment to a single guild without taking away the current value of membership in multiple guilds.
I think that involves some discussion of the following.
1) What is currently a part of being in a guild that can’t be taken away, and why would it be bad to take it away?
2) Is there anything that is currently part of being in a guild that could be taken away and given to a more focused guild association? What could we do to mitigate some of the negativity of taking away current functionality? For example replace it on all guilds or enhance it for the one guild that it is tied to?
3) What kind of features are there that don’t even exist yet that would really only make sense with a more fixed association with a single guild?A lot of good design discussions come from answering these questions anyway which I would summarize as what can/can’t we take away? What can/can’t we change? What can/can’t we add? I ask them in that order because it’s generally the order that they are easiest to implement in.
Jon
I already put this in a formally phrased proposal so I won’t do that again, but I will re-iterate … viewing guild chat when not repping.
I can’t stress enough how important this is, and that one thing will fix many of the issues people have with guild loyalty and membership.
Speaking isn’t even that important. You can require a rep change to speak in guild chat if you need, but being able to see it is extremely important.
People need to know that the guild is active and doing something.
In other games you join guilds not by account but by character. Guild Wars 2 system is much better, no need to worry about inviting your alts or having “80” people in a guild but it’s really just 10 people with 8 alts. The one downside is that some people liked to be in one guild on one character and another guild with a different character, this is addressed by allowing you to join multiple guilds, but the whole system is let down by this one omission.
Not being able to see when the guild is active leads to players creating representation policies, which I view as completely against the spirit of the system.
A guild is a community. It can not be a community if half (or more) of the members never hear what is said.

All tarnished coast welcome to join us at 5:00 PM Eastern today (12/1) as we drive off the evil Fort Aspenwood and Yak’s Bend!
I’m stuck on Blackgate … There’s no one in my maps
What?
Lock out WvW for the duration of the current match on all transfers. I’m fairly sure it was supposed to work this way? Let’s put it in action!
Being an asura makes no difference. Your jump distance is the same as everybody else.
I can make the jump past where the blue boxes spawn 99% of the time on my asura.
The new dailies made absolutly no differance to me at all. I still did the same ones I have been doing. I like the idea of pick and choose, but if the only ones worth doing are the same old ones we have been doing, who really cares?
This is the whole point. The ones that are worth doing for you, are different from the ones that are worth doing for somebody else.
If you WvW a lot, the WvW one is perfect. If you never WvW but do use the Mystic Forge … do that one instead.
mist league is open for anybody to join.
Can we get some clarification on how the new wardrobe will affect PvP?
The inability to see chat from guilds you are not representing is one of the biggest issues facing my guild today.
I think the ability to be in more than one guild is a fantastic feature, but a lot of its potential is lost due to this one omission.
Not being able to communicate with all of a guilds members who are online forces guilds to attempt representation percentage policies which are very difficult to implement due to the limited guild tools.
If we could simply read the chat for all guilds we are members of a lot of those policies would become unnecessary.
I have some hope that when the authenticated API is released (which is supposed to include access to guild chat) that we’ll be able to see chat for guilds we are not representing through a 3rd party program, but ideally we need this in-game. Not everybody has a 2nd monitor or wants to use an overlay.
If necessary it could be read-only, requiring a rep switch to actually talk. Chat text itself might be a slightly darker shade of gold and preceded with the guilds tag. EDIT: Ooh, just thought, right click on the tag for a context menu that allows you to switch rep.
Were I A-net boss for a day, I think this would be my #1 quality of life issue.

There won’t be any feature builds or spvp improvements. Those things won’t come until late March or early April.
This patch will just be the two new world bosses, one temporarily (Marionette)the other permanent (Jungle Wyrm), and some new rewards. That will be all until 2 weeks later.
Yeah, I’m not a fan of this new system of leaving all the features out until one big patch. I’d much rather they continue to give them to us as they’re ready. Especially if this means we won’t get Edge of the Mists for months yet.
Alt-F4 counts as a kill for the player in terms of WXP and loot … why wouldn’t it also count for points?
Firstly, I am pleased that “features” have been added to the game. To what extent I will leave for another post. What bothers me is how everything has been implemented.
Wardrobe locker: Great idea which should have been in the game day 1. With a game prideful in horizontal progression, the original skin system was done very poorly. After a year and a half, we get a wardrobe feature complete with a “BUY NOW” button next to transmutes. Is ANYONE fooled into believing this feature was implemented for any reason other than promoting gem store sales?
Account bound dyes: Great idea. Only implemented because they made the decision to eliminate world drops, making dyes primarily available on…you guessed it…the gem store.
Megaserver: Great idea to reduce dead zones. Implemented to reduce number of servers online, reducing cost of leasing servers.
I am bothered with the idea that Anet cannot give players any new features without the gem store attached. It makes sense as a greedy business model, but everything is veiled as a “You voiced, we listened!” addition, where really it was only implemented because it got a stamp of “Yeah this will make more money.”
I’ll go on a limb and say that guild v guild will be added, at the cost of gem store “challenge” tokens or some clever way to add a cost to making the most of it.
I’m half-expecting a gem store purchase for bug fixes in the future. Anyone else feel this way?
For the wardrobe there are ways to get transmutation charges through map completion and PvP without going anywhere near the gem store. The buy more button is there to make things more convenient for you if you do run out, similar to how you can buy extra bag slots for your inventory.
Also, this is the exact same gem cost as it always has been for transmutation … and not only that but you no longer need to purchase another set of gem store armor if you want to use it. I bet some people even bought gems to convert to gold to buy another set of T3 cultural. If anything the wardrobe is going to result in less gem sales, not more.
Unidentified dyes, again ways to get them without going to the gem store. You can buy them with laurels, you can craft hue specific dyes and you can then take 4 of the hue specific dyes and throw them in the forge for a regular unidentified. Also, lots of dyes available on the trading post.
There really isn’t any “blatant money-grubbin” going on here. If there were, the items I listed above would not exist.
(edited by Nabrok.9023)
How long does the access token and refresh token last before they expire?
Yes, could we get “expires_in” included with the access/refresh token response please?
The only dailies I have an issue with are the new sPvP tournament wins dailies and the WvW defense restorer daily.
The sPvP ones because they would take about as long as doing all of the other dailies combined, if not longer.
The defense restorer one because it encourages bad/inappropriate use of supply in WvW.
The number of dailies in the list is fine. I do complete all of them most days, but generally skip the ones I mentioned above.
No. Make all backpacks dye-able.
Hey now guys, let’s be civil here. DIS got to take the tower so they win. BT and friends got to wipe DIS about 12 times in the process so we win. Everyone wins!
LOL, I’ll take that. Hope you got some good loot bags off us.
Unfortunately I barely even got a chance to pick up the few I got off you in the early engagements.
Problem with a Saturday reset is the matches are usually decided 48 – 72 before the reset anyways making the final days pointless in the final score. Which would make friday night (high play time) pointless.
I am all for making it easier for EU players to be on at reset, but like I said before all this is, is a bandaid since ANET seems to be unable to (for whatever reasons) separate EU and NA.
As it is for me if i don’t get in right at reset I might as well go get wasted since the Q times are usually 2 – 3hrs.
Tarnished Coast begs to differ, but I do get your point.
The ideal solution is separate reset times, but I think a Saturday reset is a better compromise until that is possible.
Wrong forum. Unfortunately General Discussion is probably the closest one to what you want.
So tomorrow you have to have 2000 acheivment points to get another large ach chest, which containts a second zenith skin which can be unlocked, the first time around i got a short bow for my main, but i really want the hammer for my warrior that im trying to cap, but im only at 1300 ach points and getting another 700 points bye tomorrow seems impossible.:(
You don’t have to have them by tomorrow. You’ll get the chest when you reach 2,000. And one when you reach 1,500 before that.
This is a big problem in solo queue, whether you start the game short-handed or somebody leaves in the middle, be it through rage quit or disconnect.
So, my idea is … if you outnumber the other team, you can’t respawn. Respawns would be queued up.
For example players A, B, C, D, and E are on blue and outnumber red. Red still manages to kill A. A will not be able to respawn for now.
If the 5th red player manages to reconnect, A will respawn.
If red kills player B, player A will now respawn and B will be locked.
It would kind of suck for the locked player, but not as much as it sucks being outnumbered.
How many times do they need to say that content traditionally associated with expansions will be released through LS updates before people notice?
I know they have said that but the problem is…..the content leaves and is gated so it has to be completed in the 2 week time frame or it’s gone, granted events like the current Wintersday are reoccurring but just like the LS it is gated and leaves the game after it’s ran it’s course.
I’m not complaining, I actually like most of the LS content, but the fact remains that it isn’t enough to hold the interest of players who have been here over a year and have completed most of the tasks that the game offers not involving LS.
Anet will have to open new areas of the map with new DEs, Champs, Hearts, Vistas, and mobs to keep the players happy and coming back to GW2, someone in another thread made a great analogy about sitting through a 2 hr movie that you had seen a hundred times and how much interest do you have in watching it? while I enjoy killing the shaman at the Maw it is getting quite stale, it’s a great fight for the first 1-20 times but after that it’s just kinda’ boring and I look for other things to do, after you do those other things what is left?
Yeah, because all of the LS updates have been entirely temporary content, and we totally don’t have a modified path in TA, scarlet invasions, updated Tequatil, new fractals, revamped Kessex Hills, oh and Southsun Cove …. yeah, that’s all gone now.
Living Story is not just temporary content … it’s some temporary content that’s used to introduce permanent content.
Outside of seasonal content, there was remarkably little temporary content in the second half of the year, and even a lot of the temporary content from the first half has returned to us as permanent content in fractals.
Additionally, when there is temporary content, it’s not just there for two weeks. The general pattern was one larger update with content that lasts for a month with a smaller follow-up two weeks later.
The PvP update will not replace the regularly scheduled Living World update.
Does this mean that the policy of keeping content and features in separate patches has changed?
I don’t understand how CD can be ranked higher that IoJ, when every time we’ve been matched against each other IoJ has always place higher…
Look at last weeks matches.
CD vs DB vs TC: At the start there is only a 25 point spread between all 3 servers so it is expected to be a close match. CD ends up dominating so we get a big rating boost (+92).
SI vs IoJ vs BG: At the start there’s 40 or so points between IoJ and BG but SI is 225 points ahead, so is expected to be the clear winner. This match plays out pretty much as expected except despite coming last BG actually did slightly better so they gain a small amount of points at IoJs expense, but still nobody gains or loses more than 8 points.
CDs big win and point gain was enough to put them over IoJ who lost a few points, but only by 5.
You do not need to be queued to enter EotM, you can join at any time.
Also, you do not need to go to EotM if you are queued. You can queue for your map of preference and then go to another WvW map or even do some PvE or whatever you want.
Do not think of it as the overflow map, think of it as the map that can have overflows.
How do these numbers even work. Blackgate got stomped almost as bad as Dragonbrand but gets 6 pts added, but Dragonbrand loses 70+ pts, and IoJ only loses 8. I just don’t get these numbers.
It’s a ranking, not a score.
If you lose to a server with a higher rating or beat a server with a lower rating (the expected result), your rating won’t change much.
If you beat a server with a higher rating, or get beat by a server with a lower rating, your rating will change a lot.
Dragonbrand had a similar rating to Crystal Desert who defeated them soundly, so Dragonbrand loses a lot. Blackgate had a lower rating than the servers who defeated them so they don’t lose so much.
(edited by Nabrok.9023)
In the meantime, can we go back to the experimental alternative method you had a while back? It was so much better.
I disagree on this completely. I often found I couldn’t see my allies and we couldn’t coordinate anything. We never knew if each other were pushing in or pulling back. Frankly, they both are terrible. I’d rather see all my allies for more coordination and get a few of them to show up first.
You could still see the green dots on the mini map for your allies.
It’s way worse when you get the door down, charge into a keep and the only indication there’s any enemy there at all is the red circles that appear at your feet. Then as you’re sitting there dead “Holy kitten, there’s a lot of bad guys here”.
This needs to be fixed. It’s ridiculous. I don’t know if it’s bugged or just bad design, either way it needs a fix.
Needlessly complex. Just have it so when you are dead you can only see the map. Possibly allow a brief period of time (30 – 60 seconds) before it switches to map only.
The score is a symptom of the larger population/coverage issue. Treating the symptom will not fix anything.
Do not get target locked on balancing the score when reasonably fair fights is what is important. Some previously suggested “fixes” to this include:
- Guild Alliance matches that are aligned weekly rather than Server v Server
- Allow some guilds to be unaffiliated with servers and assign them to servers that need them each week
- Create a limited amount of free transfers to specific servers each week to help balance out populations
While I agree that fixing imbalance issues will have a profound effect on scoring, we’ve already had that discussion.
I dont think we can have the conversation in a vacuum.
Especially when so many of us believe that any scoring change will be most likely be a bandaid until they can address the real problem of lopsided servers/population imbalances.
The proposed idea (which I loved a year ago when it was first proposed) would – most likely – fix it all – without disrupting server communities or in any way and let them focus on other ways to make WvW fun for everyone without having to get creative with scoring or lopsided buffs (which other games have tried and failed with – if anyone remembers WoW’s Wintergrasp “solutions” to a similar issue years ago) .
Personally I’m a big fan of the original proposal from John(?) of creating new worlds populated with alliances to form balanced populations.
Anyway, we’ve already had that discussion, I feel that this discussion should proceed under the assumption that some of the things discussed there are implemented and should be about how we would like scoring to work in a population balanced environment. If your answer to that is “The current scoring will work great with balanced populations!” then that is a valid answer.
I think the other side is saying (legitimately so) that fixing the population issues will alleviate many of the scoring issues.
That’s not saying that there arent some good ideas to improve scoring, just that they need to deal with both the disease and the symptoms – and if we get too far down the symptom road (scoring), we will lose sight of dealing with the disease (population imbalances) itself. They can change scoring all they want, but until the underlying problem of lopsided populations is addressed head on, the situation will just continue to deteriorate.
Absolutely, I agree with this completely.
No, a week is good.
24 hours or even a weekend/weekday split doesn’t work because some servers are stronger on certain days, so you need a week to get an accurate picture.
Also, I remember the frequent resets after launch and they kind of sucked. Nobody wanted to upgrade anything because what’s the point?
The original intention was for two week matches if I recall correctly, I do agree that would be to long and I’m glad they decided not to do that.
Yeah, this is a bit annoying, but if you click the “leave instance” button above your minimap after the match ends but before it kicks you out, you will return to where you started rather than go to the mists.
1. Do people just not see the WvW tab under achievements?
2. Don’t want my name to be seen, don’t want to see enemy names. Guild tags and names are sufficient.
3. Loot is fine. Sometimes you get a trash trophy, sometimes you get a rare. There’s enough to cover costs and then some, so it’s fine. Full auto-loot would be nice though.
4. Sure, why not?
ok, found the problem.
Had to go to “C:\Users\[my name]\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2” and remove the Local.dat file.
AppData was a hidden folder so you have to type that in on the address bar of file explorer.
Now I just have to setup all my keybinds again …
