<DISCLAIMER, The actual figures in these examples date from ~6 months ago, i finished reaching 300MF around December (2013) somewhere. It should still give you good insight on how to reach max MF in a timely manner though. I post this here since i`ve gotten a great deal of feedback from people asking me to post this guide in public. Hence i do so. Use at own risk>
Some insight on how/why i did it:
How did i do this? – I flipped thousands and thousands of green items into mats on the TP by placing buy orders, selling the materials for either a small net loss, breaking even, or a small net profit.
Where did i do this? – I spend the majority of the time running back and forth in LA between the outfitter at the bank and the TP npc’s.
How long did it take? – I started doing this the moment the MF change went live. So probably 4-5 months now?
Why did i do this? – Not very irrelevant, but i view myself as the most unlucky person ever walked this planet. Without MF i can play this game for 50 years and not see anything valueable drop so i decided to force my luck a bit. Besides that.. I am a maniac and while not an economic mastermind i found a way to do it.
More into detail:
The items i flipped (or not rly flipped, just bought but i like the word) are GREEN ARMOR pieces of all kinds in the lvl33-62 range.
Why just greens?
Blue armor yields bad MF results + has a bad buy/profit ratio. Most blue items are almost as expensive as green items but yield much less materials.
How does this buy/profit stuff works?
The secret is to know what happens when you salvage stuff before even doing it. Green items salvage into 1-3 materials, more often into a single one then 3 at once. But it happens. On average i get 1,5 material from a salvage.
Example: Strong leather gloves. 1s 32c is the top buyorder right now. That means if you buy this item, it will cost you 1s 32c. You need to know what it salvages into. It salvages into Rugged leather section. These go for 98copper right now. I told you 1 item salvages into 1.5~ mats on average so basicly from this item you get 1s 49c back. 20 copper profit. Bingo.
Which salvage kits?
I was stubborn and did it wrong the whole time because i was greedy. I bought Basic salvage kits, which amounts to 88copper per kit. If i had to guess, i probably spend 100-200gold on these kits alone. Yes kitten me.
I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!: IF you plan on actually getting to 300MF, you have to spend money on gems and buy a Copper-fed-salvage-omatic from the TP. (yes it will cost you like 80gold at this gem exchangerate, but it WILL save you money in the end) Not even talking about the quality of life using a single salvage kit instead of filling your bags with kits.
How many items do i need to buy?
kittenLOADS. Some guy did the mat and it appears you will need to buy about 200k items in total. I bought 200k items in total. If you are susceptible to RSI and Arm/wrist injuries… DO NOT DO THIS. I go to the kittening gym everyday, i use powerball on occasion to prevent it. Because you will click millions of time. Millions.

True daecollo, however we are the only class that suffers from its slow speed attack and thus is more susceptible to the strafing problem, to the point of unplayable (in pvp). I doubt this is intentional but i’m afraid they choose to ignore since there isn’t enough fuzz about it on the forum. If there were 10 threads up about this problem with 20 pages each, it would be fixed in no-time.

Ive pugged my way to fractal 10 and ive never gotten in a group that used exploits of any kind.

My warrior dies a lot more than my ele in WvW, provides poorer support, significantly less healing, significantly less CC, and gets less bags. No, you didn’t read that backwards. The higher damage output and armor rating doesn’t make up for the lack of everything else outside of PvE.
That being said I’ll gladly take some free buffs.
I dont want to make a case for anything but more toughness + health + 3k shout healing (buffed in patch notes lol) + hammer stun. And this with more dps and easyer play xD
(i dont even own an ele, was searching around if i should make one after maining a guardian for 6+ months. but after some feedback around here and ingame its not gonna happen.)

I agree with that the scepter isn’t meant to perform well, we as guardians are pretty strong in melee and arguably best in damage/sustain wise. However we are not so grandly overpowered in melee that its intentional to have NO ranged option.
Then perhaps the fix isn’t related to a range weapon. If we aren’t strong enough in melee range to justify weak ranged weapons, then one could argue we need more melee strength. It’s a matter of perspective.
Indeed, however i stated that i view guardian as the strongest melee option. Even above warriors. Making them even stronger in the melee field would make them sincerely unbalanced. The best bet would be to improve ranged options.

Hi there, my name is Sandra
Since about a week im experiencing quite a bit of lag troughout the game. It started in WvW, the lag is discribed as “jittery” walking from the zerg (teleporting sort to speak), lagspikes and 1-2 seconds of skillag soon as some activity happens. The lag is also in pve now when i run fractals or other dungeons. I created a few forum posts allready but havent received a response yet from someone qualified.
Note: im talking about internet lag, not fps lag, i have a consistent 30 fps everywhere i go. Its not any hardware on my side.
Some other info:
Playing on a intel core 2 quad CPU Q8300 with 8gigs of RAM
GPU is a GTS250
OS is windows 7 ultimate
My ISP is UPS/CHELLO from the Netherlands. I live there aswell so i play on EU servers. Far shiverpeaks to be more precise.
Because i experience internet lag i gave UPS a call and asked them if there is anything wrong with my internet. They say its perfectly fine and told me to test other software with internet connection. I did and any other software has no lag issues.
I also did a tracert and after hop 12 it times out. I did it while standing in an enemy`s borderlands because i experience lag there right now with my guild group and i cannot play very effectively atm.

With the “illusions die on stealth”-bug, Mesmers could NEVER win against those three classes, even if the Mesmer was a much better player than his opponent.
Just like your previous point, this is arbitrary. Not fact.

Also, may I ask you how a Mesmer is supposed to win against any halfway decent opponent without being able to use illusions? Arbitrary… yeah, right. There’s a reason for why this caused such an outcry in the Mesmer-community.
Let me quote someone else:

I dont know what to say, patch after patch balance gets more out of hand. Is it really necessarily to have a monthly subscription fee to play a game that is moderately balanced? Look:
Putrid explosion buffed instead of nerfed by changing twice its damage or radius.
Training of the master buffed from 30% to 35%
Dhuumfire damage buffed with double its damage & vampiric precision DOUBLED would STILL MAKE NECROMANCERS UNDERPOWERED IN EVERY ASPECT IN THE GAME.
I must be from another planet, or the devs. But than again, every necro so far is not making constructive posts anymore and more or less turning cynical about it.

I sincerely hope not. I’ve grown rather fond of my AH guardian, and if devs started messing with her I’d be very put out. Especially since I’m already well on the road to getting my Theodosius staff. Nice Crest of the Magi on there, one or two WvW healing infusions… Staff #3 plus Writ of the Merciful plus Writ of Exaltation is a thing of beauty.
If they followed a previous poster’s (Sandra Martino.3870) suggestion and made a fourth virtue…and made that be the current effects of AH…that would accomplish two worthwhile things:
1. Increase sustain for offensive guardians (something sorely needed).
2. Free up tankish/low dps guardians to try some new traits and improve their damage output.No guardian would lose anything in the process…all I see is win in that scenario.
My answer to the OP’s question is a fourth virtue. I also wouldn’t mind more elite choices. A signet elite and a shout elite come to mind. I’m not a fan of elite skills that override my normal weapon skills and/or lock out my utilities. That leaves us with nothing but renewed focus and I don’t like channeling skills.
I think that taking a Grandmaster ability and making it a basic profession mechanic would make us extremely overpowered. Especially since, as you point out, that would free up slots to pursue a more aggressive role. Much as I would like to have my cake and it, too, I don’t think this is a good idea. Guardian is nowhere near the top of the list of professions requiring a major overhaul (obviously that would be Ranger).
I will admit that a fourth virtue would be an excellent addition. Something with either Stability or Retaliation, maybe. Has the name Fortitude been used for anything yet? Let’s say that with Virtue of Fortitude the passive effect is increased Endurance recharge, and the active grants either of those boons. Dodge-healing becomes more useful.
Actually i view AH as a basic class mechanic because of our lower health. Everyone says guardians have 8000 less base hp then warriors because of our healing/sustain. Yet we are pidgeonholed into a “mandatory” grandmaster trait in order to get that healing/sustain.

Honestly, after hundreds of hours on my Guardian as my main, I think Guardians with a staff works pretty fine. Yes, I wish we could use a Bow. A long range damage weapon would be nice. Yet, I find that my Staff works just fine for medium range damage. I’m still mixed on ranged damage on a Guardian. In the right hands, they’re already pretty strong, I’m honestly surprised they haven’t been nerfed to oblivion because of all the whining I used to see. I say fix the Scepter so that autoattack is faster.
Instead of firing semi slow moving orbs, increase the speed to the speed of a shortbow autoattack, and increase the range of the orbs.
While im all for fixing scepter #1, homogenizing weapon attacks (your example of increasing orb speed) should not be the answer. Im leaning more towards making it homing, we would be unique in having slow attacks but still having the ability to hit players.
That said… im happy with any change right now… playing 7 months so far shooting blue tennisballs at players that dissapear into the ground or air.

I strongly believe necromancers should not have acces to stability. I do believe the necromancer should be about high risk/reward and thuss have more damage/attrition (in the form of superior mitigation instead of blocks/invulns/stability).
That said, the 5-6k healing from the signet foregoes its purpose, you need to be in close range of 5 enemies to get the full effect and its likely you`d loose more then this amount of hp just for getting close.

It’s not at all. The dev stated they had no idea when that would be fixed. They only acknowledged it wasn’t correctly implemented. The only truly mindblowing thing is that people equate ‘no idea when it will be fixed’ to ‘next patch’.

Its so hilariously broken that it is probably a worldrecord in the MMORPG genre for having such a broken mechanic still in the game after nearly a year for the release. Previous posters said its not gamebreaking, but in essence it is. Scepter is the only viable ranged weapon we have (staff is but support/tag only) and yet it cannot hit moving targets. Result: ranged guardian do not exist. Wait what? Yes!
This fact, is mindblowing. In my reality, southsun/new holiday + balance updates should be tossed aside and the devs foremost fix this bug immediately.

You actually might pull it off yes. You do that, you make it back into your zerg and every utility+elite is on a long cooldown and you just stand there. Now what? you dance for 2 minuts and do it again and call that “viable” meleeing in wvw?
If that is how you like to play, be my guest. I prefer ranged capability.

Even with Dhuumfire changed into 15 second torment with 10 stacks, death shroud being able to take one-shot hits, wells cooldowns halved, signet cooldowns halved, corruption cooldowns halved and spectral effects last for twice the duration we’d STILL BE THE WEAKEST PROFESSION.

There are like 3 or more threads about our lacking ranged viability that sank to the 3th and 4th topic page… really?? All you care about is making topics about changing 1 trait and call it a new build and actually get 20 responds on that? What is wrong with this community??

Theres already an auto-loot option in the menu screen. Skips that pop up screen and tells you what you recieved on the right

Indeed, give scepter 1 more range, speed and make it homing, make staff have more range, make it so zealot’s defense does not root you, and make it so sword 2 does more damage. That would fix just about everything.
Scepter does not need more range or speed, it just needs to hit. Simply make it homing and guardian will have a viable ranged option.
I don’t get it why this didnt happen allready? It cannot possibly be intended that theres 1 profession that is unviable in 1 department of the game. I speculate they simply are not aware of it, like someone else said: its mindboggeling that it hasnt been fixed yet. If there was enough attention about scepter #1 and a dev would have read it, it would’ve been fixed the next patch.
It does astound me most of the community whines about hammer skills and whatnot, like poster above me and thus it strikes me this important matter is not viewed as important enough…
edit: In my opinion there should be like 5 rage posts per day from different people about why scepter #1 hasnt been fixed yet. Strange tbh. Does most of the community not care about guardian ranged viability?

While im not fond of manipulators i happen to have bought a storm halfway januari for 30g, its ridiculous that its price has been tenfold not even 3 months later.

(New boon, immunity to slow effects)
Fourth virtue: Passively yields the AH effect, on Active grants the guardian immunity to criples, poisons, slows & immobilizes for 3 seconds. (new boon, so boon duration will affect)
- Remove Altruistic healing and Monks focus
- Zealots blade revamped, grants a flat 10% greatsword damage and a 10% random chance to immobilize the target. (10 second cd)
- Scepter #1 is piercing trough targets and homing.
- Scepter #2 is a symbol.
Got lots more ideas but these few lines alone would open up build diversity + making guardian ranged viable. Congrats, i fixed guardians moot points in less then 5 minuts..

Where do i start?
Depending on how much money you got right now. I started flipping with about 200gold~ and i got about 700-800gold atm. Not every gold of that is made by profit, but also due to finding craploads of rares/exotics that i regularly find. I sell everything i find. Yet some of this gold is from the profit i made by raising my MF.
Lets see. You are poor as kitten and only got 40gold in your bags. What you do is put the filter on Armor/masterwork quality/33-62 level range and hit submit. You will see a list of items that says 1 – 10 of 560. This pool of 560 different green items will become your best friend. First page is kitten because it has cloth items in lvl35-45 range, which salvages into linen cloth. Linen cloth is 7s per piece atm so its much to expensive to flip for you poor lads. Look down the page until you see an item named Berserkers pirate gloves of scavenging. Bid on it, the top buyorder is about 1s49c. It will result in breaking even because the result will be rugged leather. Bid no more then about 22. Once you gain money in the hundreds you can try to bid more. I frequently bought 111 stacks of every item i bought but i could invest a kittenload of money aswell. If you`re poor, start to bid low number stacks. Reason for not rounded numbers like 100 or 20 is purely because of RSI/Injury reasons.
Bid on items like these that will make you break even, or make you a small profit. With such low money, dont bid on items that will make you net loss. You can do that when you can dump 800gold into it and become lazy, like me.
So, how do i make the money?
Obviously, when you salvage the items you buy, you dump it on the TP and sell it as high as the lowest seller. Dont ever sell mats to highest buyer, but that should be common sense.
Fun facts:
- The luck needed for every luck bar increases until 219 MF, after which every luck bar is capped at 30k.
- Total luck required to reach 300 MF is 4295450, yes thats 4million luck kittenes!
- Before my computer crashed i found like 1 exotic every day since i reached 170~ mf until 260~ mf. Lately when i neared 300 MF i find myself finding less exotics :p
- Found 1 underwater precursor so far.
- I spend on average 3hours per session salvaging everything from the TP until the list is empty. (if i let it " sit" for 2 days)
- I spend on average 2 hours placing buyorders for items.
- When i dumped 800gold into the TP, i had 360 buyorders standing for 111 stack PER item. which means i wouldve bought 40k items if absolutely everything got bought. (nigh impossible, ppl always outbid you or ppl simply dont sell those items) but on average i buy 6-7k items when i let it sit for 2 days/2 nights while i made 40k buyorders. So expect to only actually buy 5-10% of the buyorders you actually place.
Also:
Buying ectos goes faster, a lot faster. But as everything in life, Which is fast and good also is very expensive. At the time i raised my MF, for a stack of ectos you paid around 70gold and you only got 35 gold out of it at the TP. Giant loss. Ppl did the math somewhere and it would cost you 13k gold or something to do it with ectos.
In my personal view if you got the money to buy solely ectos on this, you wont need the MF anymore as it will never turn into a profit if you dont play for like 5-10 years.

No is exactly what would happen during a inc Lucentfir.When you charge you take some damage and you can be focused easily (A front-line soldier is the one who take the major damage ) You surely can have protection for damage mitigation and stability when you charge but at the same time you risk to be dazed-stunned or immobilized in just 1 second because there are mesmers that play a lot of times Null Field on first line , you will lost stability and you go down for the multiple attack.
I hit 3k-3,5k to heavy armored class and from 4,5k to 6 k on the others.When I charge with my ally we always stack might and buff and I can go easily to 4150 attack with 60% crit rate (thanks to warriors shout , 40% without it) and 57% crit damage with 3 k armor and 20 k Hp.I will do a screen later to demonstrate it (I have sigil of fire too on hammer so I doa little bit more aoe damage ) It’s late now and it’s time to go to sleep for me xDA) this is assuming someone is charging completely alone, and without anyone else, which is stupid and that person deserves to die.
B) this is assuming the person does not run in using shelter, renewed focus, or dodge rolls, which is once again kinda stupid.
C) Still assuming the person is just going to run in standard and not use a gap closer like flashing blade or leap of faith, both of which AoE blind making the people you land around miss you completely. Also JI which is awesome because you can just jump past the front line and cause havoc, and also allows you to completely bypass any fields laid in front.
D) You are also assuming that everyone in the zerg is going to target the same person, which once again with multiple people charging in, is very unlikely.
He is kinda right if you played GvG zerg in wvw, your 500hp per second isnt going to save you from that. After you used shelter/RF (2x virtues spam for hp) and 3/4 dodgerolls + shout spam you will still get pressured hard. This pressure can be handled better by staff #4 (with AH obviously) on a 16s cd filling your hp from 20% to full then to rely on 500 hp/s.
But i must admit, healway is probably godmode in GvPug or PugVPug :p
