Most of the people complaining haven’t even tried the changes yet, the patch has only been out for a couple of hours, it’s like the day job of some of these people is to sit and wait for a patch to be released and immediately post, some of these people have posted within minutes of the patch… how do you know how it plays within a couple of minutes, honestly? I can’t even change my build to where I want in a couple of minutes.

This is like saying “We have removed half the aces and all 10’s and queens from the deck” and saying “don’t jump to conclusions, you should play the game before deciding if there will be less black jacks happening”.

It’s not like saying that though, because I said what I said, to be taken at face value, nothing less and nothing more.

are you high? put the pipe down. If you cant see why these nerfs are bad without me spelling it out for you then you either don’t play the game or have literally no basic cognitive ability. What are these “insanely op ele builds” LOL Staff? Nope. Fresh air? nope. Of course though since you are apparently privy to knowledge we poor sad Eles aren’t please do enlighten us.

Don’t you have something better to do today besides complain? It’s a game and games change, gotta learn to just go with the flow, have a beer or two man.

[Suggestions] Quality of Life Changes

• Besides my home instance being just another part of the daily rotation, why don’t we try to make it more of a home, like the player’s personal space? Let us customize it a bit, let us buy upgrades with our gold in it, or our supplies even, similar to the way the guild hall works, but on a smaller scale.
• The achievement suggestions in our hero window always suggest achievements that I’d never do, I don’t step foot in WvW, is there a way you guys could add something to allow me to choose a pool of achievements it could suggest, like PvE or PvP, or even Living Story?
• What’s cool about legendary weapons is you can swap stats any time you like. What’s not cool is having to apply sigils left and right on them, they are called legendary, but I guess that’s just for the effect maybe? Why can’t we swap sigils too? After the amount of work that goes into one, I think you should consider it.
• More farmable areas that give decent loot. I know you guys and gals at Arenanet are solely against people making gold playing your game, but it gives people incentive to “keep” playing if you allow them ways to make their own fortune. Raptor & Vaettir farming in GW1, UW, FoW, Kathandrax. Make the game about something more than just dailies for crying out loud. We can do our Raid content once per week, now we are done, now what? Daily content is done, now what? That took all of an hour maybe, provide us a freaking means to farm beyond that monotonous entity that is silverwastes or any other meta map for that matter, give us the means to make money in game.
• Build Saving and Weapon Sets – a great idea you had in GW1, why can’t we have it here? It was a fantastic idea, and I’m sure people could really love it. Want to load up that build for raiding VG? Not a problem, done. Need the weapon set for it? No problem just switch over to weapon set #2 and you are good to go. It would be so insanely helpful to be able to have these two functions back in the guild wars genre.
• Create more craftable boons and buffs, again comparing to GW1 here, you had consumables, which could stack in various forms, remember rock candy? I do. Consets? I do, allow people to use those resources that are just getting wasted on nothingness right now, on stuff like that, that’ll stabilize the market and give people something to joyfully work towards as well as utilize an important item which can be used for raiding or dungeons.
• Let’s talk about dungeons and FotM. I like FotM where it is, it’s great, it’s fun, it gives decent loot, let’s stop changing it now, it needs no further adjustments, it’s had more changes to it than the NYSE on a Monday afternoon. Dungeons on the other hand, make them fun again, back in GW1 you didn’t farm dungeons to get a lot of money, they were just down right fun, a blast on some of them, and you could do them with “consumable sets” at alarming fast rates, that’d revive them a bit and still keep your gold cap in place.
• Toggable Hard mode, please, I beg of you, add some challenge to the game, the once weekly raiding is hardly a taste of anything. Make things more difficult, I get bored with the “craft dailies, pew pew on a couple of mobs you are entirely overpowered for, log out, good game you have a legendary now”, it’s ‘almost’ that easy.
• And with Hard Mode comes my last suggestion, add some freaking aggro mechanics to the game already, it gets boring when a mob stops chasing you after 10 yards, again hard mode could fix that as well, but I know you’ll consider it, thank you

They got me back, too. Now I only hope we don’t have a wait a few months to see updates to the balance changes they’ve made. Balance seems to happen so slowly. I’d rather more frequent shaves and changes than a ton of changes all at once.

Yes. They’ve never seemed to understand how important this is. Minor balance updates should happen more frequently than once per quarter.

Because their philosophy for Guild Wars 2 has been to go extreme in either direction of balancing, they don’t balance the way that other companies balance games, which is the way that works by the way. Instead you get one huge balance surge and it messes up more than it fixes most of the time, something is too powerful? Don’t make it completely worthless in the next patch, just scale it down a little bit and see where that takes things. It’s like a 5-year old in a candy shop is behind the balance team, we need more consistency than anything and to them it’s like, You can either have this or this, but you can’t have the option that’s in between.

It was actually sooner than that!

It first debuted on April Fools day of 2013, and because it was so well received, they added a World 2 in August of 2013 as a Back to School edition as well as a World 3 Teaser, and nothing since.

So no SAB for almost 2 years and 4 months, which is crazy to think about, because it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long….i can still remember playing it pretty distinctly.

People want it so Anet won’t bring it back, because they are a company that refuses to listen to their customers and instead will follow their own idea no matter how absurd it is. “Hey, we want this” and Anet responds with something entirely different that no one ever asked for. If they weren’t so tied up in their own ego’s they could realize that they have the potential to make a lot more money if they would just quit chasing their own magical carrot for ten freaking seconds, and ACTUALLY listen to what people want.

Here’s a recent example: Anet sees all of the posts on the forums about the expansion being a negative thing, the reality is people just want them to fix the bugs that are preventing a lot of people from enjoying it to it’s full extent. People don’t take the time to post on the forum if it isn’t something of remote important to them. Anet sees it as “They don’t like the expansion, we will never release an expansion again, to heck with these guys, we will show them.” As punishment, and their whole mantra seems very childish and immature.

HoT has changed gw2 community

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Silent The Gray.3091

Silent The Gray.3091

Since launch, GW2 prided itself as having one of the best, if not the best community of any MMO and rightly so. Always friendly, helpful and more than willing to assist those in need

Featuring: "
-Full zerk or GTfO!
-LFG: no necros or rangers!
-Link gear on join!
-Know how to stealth skip 90% of the dungeon!
-5k AP or GTfO!
-Nothing but constant complaining on the forum since the release of the game.
-“Play something other than DD ele / Burn GRD skill-less n00b”!

DD ele actually requires some skill because you need to manage your utilities, all those CD’s, and make snap judgments on when to switch attunements like water. Even the autoattacks have a slight charge to them.

What’s wrong with asking for people to know how to stealth skip? If they don’t know then they can be told when. Yeah the full zerk is a bit silly but if that’s what the leader is looking for it has to be respected. As for no rangers…yeah Pet AI can screw up strategies and mechanics but druid is one of if not the best class because it has so much condition removal, healing, long ranged attacks, and pets on top of that.

Zerker I think was intended to be a PvP or WvW niche assassin that required teamspeak to be viable, but due to poor AI and rotations would up being the dungeon meta. Dungeon bosses traditionally hit very hard which is why tanks traditionally were needed. Some big thing with millions of HP that can two or one shot glass cannons and immune to CC demands a different statset from fighting other players. Since Guild Wars 2 has no hard trinity players were assumed to take some vitality and toughness to account for how hard bosses are supposed to hit, you only have two dodges so you should be guaranteed to eat some damage but save dodges for when it really counts.

Every class has their “cheese” build. People can hate on it all that they want, but every class has one, there is no exception. Also Raids are going to have to be flexible with what can go or people who don’t play Revenant, Mesmer, or Engi will just quit trying to do them altogether. Anet needs to figure out how to maintain the challenge of Raiding, while allowing other classes other than the devout holy trinity to be able to play it as effectively as those 3. And Dungeons in this game have always been about “how fast can we do this?” there needs to be more methods for slowing people down, making them play through everything.

PvP Report Option: Match Manipulation

in PvP

Silent The Gray.3091

We really need an option to report players in PvP. I had the same idiot for 2 matches in a row who blamed the other players in the team for loosing. At the same time this player was standing in the base for half of the match.

I don’t mind loosing PvP matches. That will happen a lot as I am really bad. But I refuse to play PvP with this kind of idiots without the option to report them.

I am perfectly content losing a match to someone or multiple someones’ who are better than me or outplay, but people throwing the match, I wish Anet actually cared to make this kind of a fix. I don’t think they understand how the game is not fun when people are allowed to cheat/bot/throw matches and continually get away with it, I continue seeing some of the same people even after they’ve been reported, they can roam free in PvP.

Why I don't like Raids...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Silent The Gray.3091

Silent The Gray.3091

Hey all.

From the moment raids were first announced for GW2, I could already see problems on the horizon. Just the way they tried to sell the idea of Raids gave me the impression that things were not going to work out well. When ANet starts to mention things like how it will be the most difficult content in the game and, in their own words, cause players to shed tears (e.g. "And if you fail to fill these roles? You’re going to have a bad time. But don’t worry, as we’re leaving you a repair anvil at the entrance. You know—to collect your tears on. ") then you just know things are going to be a mess.

Here’s a breakdown on why I don’t like Raids as they are.

1: The creation of ‘Challenging Content’ should not be taken to unreasonable extremes.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not challenging content in itself that I do not like. In fact, I love challenging content. But what I don’t like is when the completion of challenging content is not dependent on my own skills, but rather the skills of 9 other players who I have to hope are incredibly competent. The room for error in Raids is so minuscule that having even one mediocre player on your team can mean the difference between success and failure, and this is a sad situation because usually I like helping new or inexperienced players in dungeons or fractals, but raids do not allow for this friendly community behavior because of how extreme the difficulty curve is and how toxic it can cause your raid group to become.

This, unfortunately, not only makes finding good raid groups incredibly frustrating, but it also alienates a large portion of the player-base from what is meant to be the primary new, permanent form of end game content. I don’t see how you can quite literally alienate a vast majority of your playerbase by nerfing other end game modes like dungeons, only to replace it with a ludicrously challenging game mode that pretty much gives any player that is even remotely casual or less skilled a big middle finger.

2: Functionality for forming and maintaining Raid groups is incredibly lackluster

To put it plainly, putting a group together for raids is a very painful process. Despite ANet’s attempts to sell it as a no wait, jump in and go game mode that results in instant fun, the reality is far from that idealistic vision. Because Raid groups rely on the squad UI, using the looking for group tool to form parties becomes near impossible. What’s worse is that if anyone leaves your party post entering the raid, getting a new one to join becomes an even more difficult affair thanks to the lack of functionality with squads.

This needs to be streamlined more to make finding groups for Raids less frustrating.

3: Gating exclusive rewards behind challenging content further alienates your playerbase

This is another worry I have with Raids, and that is that exclusive rewards like legendary armor will be unattainable by a vast majority of players because of the difficulty of Raids and the inconvenience of forming Raid groups.

Unlike legendary weapons, which can be acquired regardless of what game modes you play, legendary armor will seemingly be a Raid only affair. Not only do I feel this is unfair for players who might not enjoy Raids, but I also believe it hurts the “play how you want” policy that ANet has been punting for years and yet have somehow completely ignored as they’ve further developed the game.

4: My suggestions for solutions

- Firstly, I think Raids should have a scale-able difficulty curve, like fractals, with higher difficulty levels offering more rewards. Not only does this give less experienced players an opportunity to learn the mechanics in a lower difficulty scale, thus preparing them adequately for the higher levels, but it also allows players looking for a true challenge to still find it. This will also allow lower-skill players to earn the same rewards as high-end players, albiet at a slower rate, which helps mitigate the impact of alienating your playerbase.

- Raids should be split up into five and ten player archetypes. Not everyone is part of a large guild that can more easily put together a group for raids. I think new raids should be added that specifically cater to and are balanced around five player groups to allow for more leeway for those facing limitations, whether they are related to time or manpower.

- Squad functionality should be improved to make forming groups for Raids easier and more streamlined.

- At the moment, Raids force certain builds or group compositions, which once again go against the “play how you want” policy. I think ANet should allow for a bit more leeway (perhaps by removing time limitations on bosses) to allow for less than ideal group compositions to still succeed, even if at a slower rate.

5: Closing notes

As things are right now, I really don’t have the time or energy to spend on raids. It can take up to an hour or more just to find a ideal group and I’d much rather spend that precious time having fun in other game modes.

If it comes to a point where Raids are the primary end game content and the main focal point for updates going forward, while other end game content is abandoned or ignored, then I can honestly see myself quitting this game unless some improvements are made to Raid functionality overall. I didn’t buy GW2 for Raids or for forced play styles, or the promotion of toxic group behavior through elitist mindsets. If I wanted all that I would have bought another MMO like WoW.

Raids were not intended for casual players like yourself. Raids are optional content, get off your rocker and either become competent enough in the raid setting or don’t do them, it’s really simple.

The only instance I’ve actually encountered this in, is the first instance in HoT where I got stuck in the Silverwastes before entering Verdant Brink.

How I got out of it was to zoom the map out until I saw the waypoint at Camp Resolve. I waypointed to Camp Resolve. Then I was out of the instance and I ran back through the Silverwastes to get to a gate.

Also, though I haven’t tested this, you might be able to join a guild and get to a guild hall by porting there, then just walk out the gate.

lol seems like the most convoluted way of leaving an instance, I really wish they would just give you the option to leave. It’s happened to me in chapter 2, 6, &, 15 so far.

I cannot do /stuck to get out of these areas, this is just really bad, is this an issue anyone else has encountered?

From all of the 10+ precursors i’ve tried going for, I’d easily say half of them are completely bugged out to where you can’t advance tiers in them at all. Mostly due to events being bugged out, not sure how all of the sudden these events no longer function like they used to, but it is irritating.

Tier 1 Bolt – Intricately Carved Orrian Relic, the event is bugged out most everytime i’ve gone to do it, or it’s completed and you cannot talk to the npc. Also is kudzu tier 1 supposed to cost more than if you just bought the precursor outright? 40 spiritwood planks and 45 elonian leather squares … seems a rather stupid way to gate something considering this was supposed to just be a grind rather than a gold sink. I’d rather see you ask 500,000 karma for an item than that crap.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I have to give my two cents here. When Anet said that they would be adding legendary collections I assumed it would be something equivalent of, farm 3,000 of this map currency to buy one part of the first tier for said legendary, spend 500,000 karma on item number 2, use 1,500 dungeon tokens on item number 3, and the final item involving skill points. It’s really quite annoying you guys have went back on your word, looking at Kudzu alone, if i’m going to craft the FIRST TIER, i’ll need 40 spirit wood planks and 45 elonian leather squares, that’s not gating anything, that’s just being dumb. Take monetization out of precursor crafting and people will be happy, but the route you went with this is just so dumb, words can’t even describe.

What is evident to me is that the expansion forces people to think about how their builds work. In vanilla, you can make any crap you want and play it and feel accomplished. Not here. For example, if you don’t think about how your build deals with smokescales, GL.

This is exactly it. People need to quit playing zerker and quit going to metabattle and learn to think for themselves about how their build works.

Mastery overflow XP assignment

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Silent The Gray.3091

Silent The Gray.3091

This seems to apply mainly to Central Tyria masteries, but I’m not sure I understand why overflow XP doesn’t simply get assigned into the next mastery item on the same line/tree. By “overflow XP” I mean experience that is earned after gaining enough to assign mastery points but before actually doing so. If you’re in the middle of an event chain or something else that requires your active attention, sometimes you don’t have the time to stop everything and assign mastery points, then manually pick the next one you want to train.

I’ve been working on Pact Commander, and it seems that as soon as I hit enough XP to spend the mastery points, any overflow XP gets automatically assigned to Fractal Attunement I instead of simply moving down to the next item in the Pact Commander list. Due to this auto-selection, I’m about halfway done with Fractal Attunement I, which I have never actively chosen to train and am simply not focused on yet.

I was wondering why it was taking so long to finish anything, but now I know that the instant I can train a mastery I had better drop everything and assign points, then manually select the next mastery to train in order for those points to go where I want them (which is idiotic). Why doesn’t overflow XP simply get assigned to the same tree you’re currently focused on, and only auto-change mastery trees when you have fully completed the selected one?

Instead of complaining about it, why don’t you just go exploit CoF like 90% of the population seems to be doing?

I feel like this will create a problem if it isn’t managed in some kind of schedule rotation, what you’ll have is a deflation of say, silk for example, but gossamer might slowly start to rise, instead of having a hard change that fixes it now, why not implement a rotating schedule so you don’t have to keep fixing this issue of economy influxes?

Thank you for trolling this thread, it’s not a complaint, I simply would like to know if they have a long term plan for fixing the salvage changes they plan to implement or whether this is a temporary fix. Seems like a pretty straightforward question to me, and I really never complained about any of it. I’m just curious what will happen.

So my grand question is:
If the salvaging is getting revamped that it is gonna drop random materials from all tier stages this would mean that the higher tiered materials have to share their drop-chance with the lower ones. So as a consequence this would mean that high tiered materials are getting even more rare which will be leading to a massive increase of T6 material pricings. Are you pointing to the goal to make players grind their stuff on their own by making high level trading uneffordable expensive or what is the exact motive here? I see if the leather is getting changed cuz it drops on mass ye but that is the only wrong thing here I see so far.

I actually started a thread on this exact topic, anet doesn’t seem to want to answer how they plan on balancing this, so I take it as, salvaging will get a temporary nerf, until the new items become popular in turn just making the items that don’t drop from the salvage tables more valuable, creating again the same problem that they refuse to fix indefinitely.

The expansion is not about Mordremoth.

I have always wondered why GW2 doesn’t have a concept of “Dynamic Loot” bags or “Equilibrium Loot”.

You could set upper and lower thresholds for all materials where their drop rate will increase or decrease based on what price range you want the material to sit within.

i.e.,

The economist could say “I want charged lodestones between 50 silver and 2 gold” (linked to inflation) and if it starts to go to 3g then it starts dropping from the ‘dynamic loot bags’ more frequently – as the price heads back to 2 gold it returns to its normal drop rate.

And simplify the economy ? what? You must not understand how things work around Anet during gw2, in gw1 they had loot figured out, they had loot tables, loot scaling and the whole works, it made farming actually really fun, I guess they are following the motto of “If it ain’t broke, fix it til’ it is”.

So mithrils are going 3:1 ratio up from 2:1…
So t5 woods are going 4:1 ratio up from 3:1….
So oricalcum, platinum are going 3:1 ratio up from 2:1…

#speculation but you’ll never know

Yay for refinement. Or you could just hold and not update your client til you read the patch note and then update. Or just have two game clients on two different comps. Update one, don’t update the other. Find out for yourself.

Exactly, but this doesn’t balance the economy it just creates a different surge for some mats, while the ones that are surged ahead in price now fall, that isn’t balancing.

Economy Questions Repost

I’m okay with reducing the gold output of dungeons, but I’m not okay with reducing the value of playing dungeons. Replace parts of the gold with T6 materials, lodestones, or something that matters to someone and can be sold to recoup some of the value. Don’t just take away the gold and give it nothing in return. A number of people play dungeons because they’re valuable even in spite of how old and unsupported they are; reducing their value will move those people elsewhere and that’s not good.

He answered that in mines, they dont want dungeons to be as desired an activity regardless

This leads me to believe it is exactly what I stated in another post about this. They are nerfing dungeons because they are afraid the new content won’t look appealing unless they finalize their abandonment of dungeons and make it not viable.

I think what they are trying to do is deflate the economy a bit and when we get to that deflated state, the 20g you get a day from dungeons will be way more gold than you can get doing anything else, so I think that’s where they are going with this and i’m okay with it, I love my dungeons just as much as anyone else, but I understand bringing value back to items, it’s not an easy task for them to do and I really am grateful that my 5 gold will go a lot farther

Economy Question - Salvage Changes

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Firstly this might take me a minute to get to my question just as a forewarning, i’ll try to keep it short. Map changes will be providing consistency to the materials dropping if they are on some rotating schedule which i’m assuming they will be, so in turn i would hope that salvage changes are on a rotating schedule as well to quote the recent update on the salvage changes:

" To help get us closer to where we want to be, we’ll simultaneously roll out changes to the salvaging of some materials. Some of these changes will reduce output to help us maintain scarcity, and some will rebalance heavily input materials with more rare materials to help even out some of the variation of scarcity we currently have."

Good luck.

Thank you for the response, will look into that the next time it happens, the issue is very inconsistent, makes it difficult to come up with a solution.

The funny thing about all of this is that you people are complaining about Anet betraying you when it is most likely NCsoft, not Anet, are the ones who determine pricing and things like this. NCsoft is a Korean company, and respecting customers is not something they do in Korea.

The irony is, FROM Software is right across the shore, with their release of Bloodborne they sold 1 million copies in 12 days. NCSoft take note, THAT is how you “market” a game.

its a video game either you buy or dont simple. as. that all this forum nonsense is uncalled for and your physical lifes are not affected by it in any shape or form if it is then thats a you problem no reason to drag the rest of us along with you on your pity fest for your own mistake

Why are you defending a company that just scammed a lot of its customers? Isn’t this forum the only place where such grievances should be vented? People paid real money for this, and so it does affect their lives. Anet should be held accountable. I’d be furious if there wasn’t this huge kittenstorm about it.

In other news, it seems that Anet has finally decided to respond to… oh… no wait…. they are doing something else…

How has A-net scammed anyone? They were not allowed to sell a price lower than $50; they decided it was best to give new players a break who have not had the 3+ years we had to progress; and no one is being forced to buy HoT right now. Feel free to purchase it later after they release more information.

This isn’t scamming, this is just an over-inflation result of some poor communication choices and unfortunate standards.

Have you taken a look at the before and after FAQ on HoT? And the fact that the people that already own the game and have owned the game cannot purchase just the expansion, they don’t even give you the option. It’s similar to going to buy tires for your car and they will only sell you a car and throw some tires in for free. We don’t want to pay the price of a brand new car just to get a new set of tires, we just want to buy the tires. I don’t think people believe it is a scam, but it is definitely the opposite of the vision that Arena-net has portrayed in the past and if this is the new vision, I think a lot of players would like to know that up front so that they may find another game that is worth their time and money. It’s apparently never occurred to the person(s) in charge of this pricing & marketing scheme, that if you simply give people what they are asking for they will be content. We just don’t want to pay the new car price for a set of tires & we want the option to buy just the tires, I don’t see what is so difficult about that, and it isn’t asking for anything different than what 100% of other companies provide, Anet seems to be the only ones who don’t get it.

I have. Actually, just purchasing the expansion is the only option (excluding the other packages bonuses). Your analogy makes sense logically, but the semantics are off. You are going to buy tires, sure, but you don’t buy a whole new car — you just buy the tires. The difference is people who have not had the car up until this point are able to purchase the tires w/ the car for roughly the same price. This is fair seeing as your car is super tricked out by now and probably is loaded with goodies, while theirs doesn’t even have a sterio.

This is just one more example of poor communication. That’s the Heat of this Thorn-y issue (I’m sorry, I had too).

Yeah, see, the thing is, they aren’t allowing us the option to just buy a new set of tires though, that’s the point. If we do decide to get a new set of tires we are forced to get a whole new car as well. I don’t want ketchup on my sandwich, but they are only selling a sandwich with ketchup on it and that is their right, they can sell whatever kind of sandwich they want for whatever price they determine, but I will take my business elsewhere, just as many others will, so that I may buy the sandwich that I want.

its a video game either you buy or dont simple. as. that all this forum nonsense is uncalled for and your physical lifes are not affected by it in any shape or form if it is then thats a you problem no reason to drag the rest of us along with you on your pity fest for your own mistake

Challange, defend the HoT expansion price

You really want them to pay the original price plus the expansion and thats not how you make money as a business.

No. I want Anet to offer them GW2 + HoT for $50, and offer me a separate option for just HoT.

There are 2 layers here. New players get GW2 for free, AND veteran players cannot buy HoT alone.

I kinda want Anet to make new customers pay 60 for the game like everyone else did, then make them spend another 50 for an expansion like what is expected of us.

I’ve followed Arenanet since GW1, and this is the most disappointing thing I’ve seen since the lack of promised content since release. You know, there are a lot of other gaming companies making MMO’s anymore and honestly with the way Arenanet is treating their veteran players I plan to move to other games and to urge everyone I know to do so as well, . The decisions that are being made from a business perspective are just plain stupid, I really wished this game could have become something cool as we were promised, but I just see an extremely negative downward spiral of false promises and under-delivering. You guys really blew it, good job.

Unfortunately, I actually disagree with this 100%. I don’t WvW, but the fact of the matter is once you start giving special treatment to one group of players then they will roll all over with it. Why can’t people do dungeons until a certain level? I don’t see this as a fair change across the board and honestly it just seems like special treatment for people who play world versus world.

The passion in these posts is very real, I just wish everyone was able to see that it’s an expression of passion and not one of hate as they might first appear. I have two things in regard to communication. I was here for the release of the game and I distinctly remember how AMAZING the communication was. You guys and gals at Arenanet took care of us, you let us know what was going on at all times. If the game had to be shutdown or if maintenance was being done or the trading post was going to be worked on, we were aware of it. If you were going to do maintenance on the server, we knew more than an hour in advance, we could plan for it, the unfortunate thing is sometimes we are only lucky to get a 10 minute warning before the maintenance ensues. Bring that back communication, please, it was the most amazing thing.

Secondly, there is nothing more discouraging than seeing things in those update notes that is half true. I’m specifically talking about things relating to dungeons. The way in which some of this information is delivered is unsettling for people and makes them not know what to expect. For example, when the spider queen in AC was buffed, so that you could no longer stack in the location behind the stairs, the update notes simply said something along the lines of “Buffed the spider queen in AC to deal more damage”, however this is a pretty monumental change for anyone who runs the dungeon. I think a more elaborate description of what has been changed depending on the depth of the change would be very beneficial long term to hashing out some of these hard feelings that people have. If you would have said “Adjusted the Spider Queen in AC to deal more party-wide condition damage which may prevent stacking.” It tells you, “Okay, I need to find a new way to handle this Boss when I get into the dungeon.”

Thank you for all that you guys and gals do.

Being heavily against the cash-shop focus that this game has and how it effects this game I am not that heavily against the idea of unlocking the previous episodes for gems. Thats also not very strange as I am in favor of moving to expansion sales to earn the money and strip the cash-shop down (putting all those things in the game) and you can see some similarities between unlocking previous episodes and selling expansions. It’s still far from the same but has more similarities that how the cash-shop worked so far.

However I do think the way it’s done is still not good. Use 200 gems to unlock a previous episode? How about use 200 gems to unlock the previous episodes (and the upcoming 5*). And yes then still 200, not suddenly going up in the price.

The thing is that it would likely not even mean much lose in gem-sales. If somebody is has been gone for a while, lets say half a year then he is not very likely to go and unlock every episode for 200 gems paying 2400 gems. Not only that, you will get a huge load of negative feedback over smaller episodes because people did pay money for it. No, at best (not counting exceptions) they unlock two or three episodes that many people still repeatedly do. However a big group will not unlock everything and might in fact not game back to the game for that reason. What they see is a huge pay-wall and not for expansion-like content (because if you guys are going to put that in the game it will be already available for them) but for a huge list of episodes including there events and rewards. So asking money for every single episode makes no sense.

Letting people unlock all previous episodes for 200 gems will be something people will do and are also more likely to do again when having missed a few while if it’s pay per episode they might simply not buy them. *Before I also said that when unlocking all previous episodes they should also unlock the upcoming 5 (or 4 or 6 something like that). Obviously I don’t mean they should be able to play upcoming episodes but I mean that whenever they become available they will be unlocked for them also if they do not log in. This prevents people from waiting with unlocking the previous. Someone might come back from a vacation and have missed 2 episodes but the upcoming 2 months he might also have less time to be online, so just to make sure he does not now spend 200 gems and the misses another episode 3 weeks for now he decides to wait 3 weeks and 3 weeks become 6 weeks eventually not bother with it at all anymore. This is easily prevented by also unlocking the upcoming x events.

Doing it like I say here will mean more people being willing to return or jump into the game at a later time and will likely not drops the total number of sales you will get for unlocking episodes. And because you would have more people playing the overall income will also increase.

I hope you ArenaNet learned something now seeing how what many people did say already a year ago content should not be temporary. You come to the conclusion we where right so also take this advice into consideration and don’t wait another half year to conclude that the episode selling did not worked out as you hoped it would.

BTW, I’m still in favor of an expansion-based model because the changes do not remove most of the cash-shop focus related problem. Just to be clear.

Hence 200 gems per episode? Have you ever had to pay for anything in your life? Goods and services cost money, they are never free no matter what anyone has told you. You have to pay for them. I don’t understand what is so difficult about this concept for you, you pay 200 gems to unlock previous episodes. You don’t know what the quality will be of them, you assume it to be good though. Let me give you an example. If you watched the series Breaking Bad. You buy Season 1, not knowing if you will like it, but let’s assume you do. So you buy season 2, ALSO not knowing if you like it, but again you assume you will. Please stop littering the forum with your incompetency because you cannot understand that you have to pay for things that cost money, it’s pretty simple. You don’t know what the quality of these episodes/seasons will be so you just deal with it and you will probably buy them anyways because this is a great direction for the game.

I like what i’ve read so far, but i’ll have to try it when it goes live to see if it’s good enough.

Charging gems for story content is a terrible idea though. That’s akin to a monthly subscription, but at least in a subscription mmo, you get all the content, instead of having it in piecemeal chunks. Just terrible.

You do realise that the story content is free……only if you missed out on an episode now you have the option to buy it.

Really, you only have to log in once every 2 weeks to get all the stories unlocked for free.

GW2 has no sub,has no expansion you must buy, and you don’t have to buy the LS Episodes either (even if u miss out on some of them its not a must to complete them only if you want to)…so what is ooooh soooooo terrible?

I’m thinking long-term here.

Hypothetical: In 6 months, or a year, someone buys gw2. They finish their personal story, which comes free with the game. Then Season 2 ends. Season 3 starts, but the new player missed out on Season 2.

Does this mean they have pay for each update to Season 2 to catch up to Season 3? Season 1 had around 20 story updates added to it.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/
Flame & Frost, Secret of Southsun, Sky Pirates of Tyria, Bazaar of the Four Winds, Blood & Madness, etc.

That’s 20 × 200, which equals 4000 gems.

That’s very unreasonable for a new player just starting out.
I’m just trying to get clarification here, because we don’t know all the details yet.

It’s unreasonable to think that this is unreasonable. That’s $50. I’ve paid that for expansions in other games, what’s the problem? I think most of the people complaining on this forum have never had to pay for a single thing in there life, nor do they buy the things they enjoy, probably they have never ate out at a restaurant and paid because they think ramen noodles are the only meal there is. Cheaper/free isn’t always the best solution and I think you are mildly kittened if you think that is the only solution to anything.
