Im not saying they are crap Im just saying if they really believed that it was new dungeons they prolly would have updated the wiki to change this sentence

“There are currently nine dungeons.”

Oh btw

According to the wiki " Jumping puzzles are included in the definition of a mini-dungeon."

HOLY CRAP SO MANY DUNGEONS!

Umm…… The wiki is not maintained by ArenaNet it is maintained by players. I would love to highlight there are 42 dungeons paths on the wiki. I just can’t find a good way to phrase it.

And yes I do believe that there is the equivalent to 42 dungeons in Guild Wars 2. Now if you want to discuss the quality of the dungeons or the play in them that is a different matter entirely. There was recently a discussion of improvements that could be made in the dungeons forum. See the locked threads there.

Misconceptions regarding Level gating.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

There are definitely bugs and some external miscommunication with the system and I want to listen some more before discussing.
Chris

This is interesting.

Chris is saying there has been external miscommunication about the new system. Could it be that you guys realize you went too far with the removing of functions and level gating it too extreme, and it was not supposed to dumb down the game quite this much?

Hi Traveller,

No not really. I m referring to some videos etc that aren’t quite factually correct in all areas and thus there are some misconceptions being propagated by those that have not played the through NPE yet.

Chris

Don’t want to de-rail the thread this was in so I thought I would clear this comment up a bit by starting a new topic.

There is some misconception about a lot of things that are level gated videos/some comments don’t tell the entire story. A lot of things that people think is level gated actually is not. This is due to the UI shows a Unlock symbol on some of these items. But in reality just like WvW and sPvP you can still preform the actions at Level 1. You are just unlocking the hint about the items.

The following are level gated items:

  • Weapon skill 2 (Unlocked at level 2)
  • Weapon skill 3 (Unlocked at level 3)
  • Profession skill F1 (Unlocked at level 4)
  • Rally(downstate) (Unlocked at level 5)
  • Off-hand weapon slot (Unlocked at level 7)
  • Weapon skill 4 (Unlocked at level 7)
  • Underwater Combat (Unlocked at level 8 with underwater weapon skills 1 and 2)
  • Personal story (Unlocked at level 10 in chapters every 10 levels)
  • Weapon skill 5 (Unlocked at level 10)
  • Utility Skill 1 (Unlocked at level 13)
  • Underwater skill 3 (Unlocked at level 14)
  • Weapon Swap (Unlocked at level 15)
  • Down Skill 3 (Unlocked at level 19)
  • Profession skill F3 (Unlocked at level 22)
  • Underwater skill 5 (Unlocked at level 23
  • Utility Skill 2 (Unlocked at level 24)
  • Profession skill F4 (Unlocked at level 24)
  • Adapt Tier Traits (Unlocked at level 30)
  • Elite Skill (Unlocked at level 40)
  • Master Traits (Unlocked at level 60)
  • Grandmaster Traits (Unlocked at level 80)

The following items are not locked but do not appear on the minimap until the specified level.

  • Points of Interest (level 7)
  • Gathering Nodes (Level 9) – Nodes may have been removed in areas before this level. No there is no potato famine there is plenty of potato in Metrica Province.
  • Vista (level 10)

Please note I do not necessarily agree with all of the changes. Specifically the changes to unlocking of weapon skills please see my feedback at the following link.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Learning-Curve/first#post4389552

All other items that are being reported as level locked are likely not. If you have a question about a particular item feel free to discuss it.

If you think I missed some or my information is incorrect please feel free to tell me so I will research it then inform you the results. I currently have enough characters spaced out on levels enough that I can get to most of the levels in a somewhat timely manner.

The majority of my source is http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Level_rewards and me playing with the system itself yesterday to level 10.

The new one allows for greater build diversity as you can take what effects you want without sacrificing the stats you need.

I also personally find it easier to understand. I am actually paying more attention to traits now as I was not really before.

There was a big discussion on this BWE2 and some in BWE1 even less in BWE3. I think that due to it is available in the trading post now most people do not mind that it is character unlocked. Thus why It has not changed. There are a few people that would still like it account bound.

Also if they do make them account bound they will have to pull them from the trading post to keep there value. Meaning that everyone will be forced to get all dyes to get the dye they want. Yes it is technically possible for them to be account unlocked and still in the trading post. But may not be the best for the economy.

Personally as they are available in the trading post I am having more fun with them that way.

Proposal Overview
I would like to improve the Guild Banners so that they can be used more as a tool for recruitment in game.

Goal of Proposal
Make it easier to recruit new players. Making it so that guild officers can focus more on playing the game instead of

Proposal Functionality
When a player interacts with a banner to receive a buff it also displays some information about the guild.

At minimum I think that they should include the guild name of the guild that put it down and recruitment status. If they are accepting new members it would be nice to have a system where players could request more information, or request a invite to the guild this system would send a invite to the officers who can accept recruitment of players.

It would be even better if could include a small editable description of the guild. Or at minimum the play types that the guild participates in.

Associated Risks:
Massive influx of mail to a officer. To negate this have another system to handle recruitment.

Living Story Lore vehicle needed.

in Living World

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

The original plan was to have in-game books somewhat like the ones made available in the GW1 Bonus Mission Pack content. We wrote nearly 100 of them but were unable to implement them due to the book tech getting cut from development in the months leading up to GW2’s release. We may revisit the idea one day.

I thought it was weird to have all these book carts but little book to them. I understand that this would be something of low priority. But I would really really really enjoy this.

Perhaps the books can also solve a lot of the Missed out on the story questions with the living story. Finding those story posts on the web is going to become problematic down the line. Would have to sift through 40+ blog posts to find them.

Instead lay a few books around the areas that those stories happened in. Add some achievements to it call it Living story catchup or something this will drive players to read them if they wish(if not they can just go visit the place and interact with the book to get the achievement). Then new players can have the depth that a lot of people were complaining that was missing in the beginning of the living stories. Along with the items you have planned with possible replays/cutscenes. Would work well.

I think this will solve a LOT of the depth complaints and lore problems that a majority of Lore Buffs complain about. Best part is some of the code may be already done.

Are you disappointed by the players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

anzenketh.3759

This all started back in November 2012 when ANet decided to abandon its vision and cater to a small group of whiners on the forums.

Fractals and Ascended gear brought this crowd of players here, now they’re here to stay.

This crowd was here to begin with. The difference is the novelty of the game wore off. They all got their level 80s. Then they all got their exotic gear. The crafters completed their crafting of all professions to 400.

Now. They all have other goals. All these things cost in game coin to get. They are also designed to be long term. Obtained while playing though the game. But they want them now. So they do what is most efficient. Farm. They were not getting the drops that got them what they wanted fast enough so they complained about bad drops.

Now ArenaNet is trying to cater to two types. Those that wanted the vision that ArenaNet had. Wants to see the beauty in the world wants to play the events and live the story. And those that want a game that will help them achieve goals.

If you worked in development or technical support. This would not surprise you one bit. Yes perhaps the In Game bug reporting tools need some fixes. However most reports likely only included the screenshot of the tower. The objective and maybe what they were doing. Things that were likely needed where:

What map,What location, Number of players around,What skills off around them, What the players skills were that were going off, What upgrade status the gate was,What side of the gate was being hit, Were there rams up, Any other siege up? etc… Etc. That is a detailed bug post.

NPE Feedback [Merged] - Please read 1st post

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

anzenketh.3759

I have decided based upon my impression of this thread and recent comments from Chris that changes are closer to their actual design. I do not know everything in relation to the NPE as I have veteran goggles on. However I am in a unique position to have a wife that recently picked up the game.

Due to this I will revise my feedback I posted in in the following thread:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Learning-Curve/first#post4389552

Revamped Hints

These are extremely useful. However I am unsure about their effectiveness. Your testing should have proved if it is true or not.

Gating of Weapon skills

I understand why this was done to reward the player. I think that gated systems are not vary rewarding they always feel restrictive. Nor do I find it educational. I do not feel that it teaches me the profession. I was leveling up a elementalist from level 1 in the new system I understand the mechanics of fire well. The reason behind this was that I was required to go a entire level focusing on that single skill.

However for the remaining elements of the elements I don’t understand them well at all and find myself going back to fire frequently. I have not had the focus with the other elements like I have on fire.

I think the old weapon unlock system excelled in this area. On my thief I learned what the skills did as I unlocked them. However they unlocked a bit too fast if I was not paying attention. Perhaps return the old unlock system and slow down the progress of unlocking them.

I do think this may annoy some veteran players I am not sure how to satisfy them. Perhaps once you have unlocked a weapon for a profession on the account it is unlocked for the entire account for that profession.

Frequency of events
I think the events in the beginning areas need to be increased a tad. This is to keep refine the pacing in the starting areas.

Bundles and changes to starter areas
I understand why it was done. You don’t want to front-load a player who is just learning their skills. However now some of them are quite silly or feel toyish. Entertaining a cow, fumbling with a toolbox. Also some interesting ones were outright removed. Protogy and Golem chess in Metrica province. I feel that the cows and repairing golems should actually be collector heart events. And the events that were removed should be re-added elsewhere. Please add the flavor back to the beginning areas.

antigaming path sellers

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

if you see the lfg sometimes there is only path seller people need to PAY to get in a dungeon i tink this is not in the spirit of a people cooperation, becouse people get kikked by the path sellers from the istance (i don’t tink someone can do all the istance alone and after they sell :P), and from another perpective ipotize the new players don’t have money to buy path? at those players is forbidden the istance? yes you will again tell that they can make their own group, but how they do if the most time they get kikked or top player don’t want play whit them or there is (like always) only path sellers? do you realize this is not a good way to encourage people to play togheter? if you want to make gold there is other ways like crafting. And please, tell my own entering in a dungeon boss 1% paying is “gaming” or i just suppose you like to pay to win?

I can understand where you are coming from. Myself I find it hard to believe that people can run a dungeon solo.

But people do:

I can also understand your hesitation to create a LFG advertisement for you feel like you would have to lead the party. Or you are afraid that no-one will play with you. I feel the same way. I don’t know enough about the dungeon to lead. I am also afraid that due to that people will not want to play with me and kick me from the instance.

Sadly crafting is hard to make money off of so it is not a viable alternative. Why? Because almost everyone crafts.

With that said. Other people are right.

  1. You can advertise your own group.I have a few times I try to fill the party with guild members first though. If you need a good guild that runs dungeons and helps new and less experienced players I know a few good ones. Send me a mail in game.
  2. It has been a while since I last created a explorable run last one I created was a Story for Arah. That actually took longer then expected to fill. But last time I created a explorable run it was listed and filled within 5 minutes.
  3. Yes there are some bad apples in this game. There are people who will harass you for not being as l33t as they are. Or make fun of you because you can not do what they can. Or kick you because they think you are a noob and wasting their time. The best way to avoid this is to be honest with yourself and them. Tell them your experience level up front (Sad that we have to do this but we do). To the people who act or feel this way I say the same thing they are telling you. Create your advertisements with your own requirements in the LFG tool. Don’t assume everyone is good at dungeons. Don’t harass new players. If the dungeon is going to slow for you and you think you have a bad group leave and form your own group. You are honestly not as good as you think you are because if you were you would be selling dungeons yourself and the other players would not be weighing you down. If a player proves themselves to not be what they claim attempt to help and teach. If you don’t have time voice your opinion in chat communicate with the other players in that regard. If they do leave and form your own group. If they don’t give the player the opportunity to leave themselves. I think you will find a lot of players don’t want to be a burden to others.

If you find someone violating the games Terms and acceptable use policy report them. I would love for dungeons to be a place where new players feel welcome and more players play them. With more players playing them. More work will go into them in the future. With more work going into them. We may get some new dungeons.

Not Quite. Allow equal attachment to each guild I am in. Give my influence I earn equally to each guild. Give me the ability to view the guild chat of each guild (similar to alliances in gw1).

Now there is a idea. This would help the “Service” guilds and alleviate their pressure to require representation but still provide the function they were created for. Then the 100% rep requirements to player choice. Might be a good idea to add a last represented field just like there is a last logged in field. That way the leader of a guild can clean up their roster.

Thats actually big. Good conquest players may be bad at stronghold and viceversa, ruining the matchmaking for others

Every post from Jonathan and other devs almost seem like a cry of frustration to me.

Indeed, and Cry of Frustration gives stacks of confusion, which seems the status you are in! /jk

Now really, what basis do you rely your conclusions that the company is experiencing sustainabily instead of growth? With Gigantic gaming companies behind ANet, shaping the business model, do you honestly believe that the actual business model is bad?

“What growth rate they want for Gw2?” This is the real question and the one nor you nor me have the answer to. For you it seems slow and dull, for them it may be perfect this way.

/cheers

If it seems perfect this way then clearly there’s something wrong with the company considering the amount of complaints on the forum about how the game’s hardly changed at all in the past year.

When one grows accustomed to receiving things one looses vision on what they have received.

Proposal Overview
Improve the LFG system so that it sends a alert to guild members that a guild member is looking for a group.

Goal of Proposal
All this talk of alliances, viewing multiple chats etc. I feel are trying to solve one problem. People like to pull from their group of friends for help before they group up with strangers. They do this currently by asking in chat. Swapping between all their relevant guilds asking for help. This proposed system will allow players to request assistance from multiple guilds at the same time without actually representing the guilds in question.

Proposal Functionality
A player determines that he wishes for some help from his guild members. Not many people are on his currently representing guild at the time. He would open up the LFG tool and put a advertisement that he is looking for a group. He would then select how he wants this advertised with the following options (Check-box options as you may want multiple guilds but exclude others no need to spam your WvW guild with a PvE advertisement).

[] Everyone
[] ALL Associated Guilds.
[] Guild 1
[] Guild 2
[] Guild 3
[] Guild 4
[] Guild 5

The system will then send a filterable LFG message to the desired groups(With the exception of Everyone). Stating the players advertisement.

The player that wishes to join based on the advertisement would then go into the LFG system and request to join the party.

Associated Risks

  • LFG spam. Easily mitigated by chat filters. But these filters may cause people to revert back to the old way of doing thing. Represent advertise. Represent advertise.
  • Not as tight control of who to invite as talking in chat.
  • Influence is not gained for the guild members playing together.
  • Can reduce some conversation in some guilds.

I understand why they did it however it removed quite a few cool activities. They were fun to do. They were engaging and partly what made some areas unique. A lot of the bundles in the beginning areas is what added the flavor to the races and helped you immerse yourself into the race.

I think the proper thing to do is have the compass guide players to the hearts and not show the heart on the UI until they have talked to the heart vendor and received their instructions. This would have got rid of a lot of confusion not only on the bundles themselves and why your skills suddenly changed. But it would be a perfect time to explain more the mechanics of a heart.

To be fair, Golem Chess is kinda annoying as a heart.

I do think it’s a cool minigame, but it really shouldn’t be the first heart.

It should have been moved. Not removed. Move one or two to rata sum. It was a fun minigame.

Honestly. You have 4k hours in this game. I think that you are just burnt out. You have a cost to entertainment value of $0.03 per hour.

The average player that has played scene launch has 1-2k.

Sit back and enjoy the game as it is. Guild wars 2 is not about vertical progression.

Just in this short time ranking wise.

AR was at +2 or so before ALS quit. Now?

-12.462 SBI
19.819 BP
-7.991 AR

Looks like you gave all your rank points gained and then some to BP. You already lost 10 rank points. So I see the system kicking doing it’s job already.

New thing in Great Collapse

What I am concerned about is the possibility of recon that may be happening. If there are in game references to a cathan district unless there is one currently somewhere that we have not pieced together. Then what was there before the great collapse should be the cathan district. I understand there may be reasons for it not being one now. Put a single NPC talking about how it was the cathan district to keep that story line. If the arts district will now have no relation to cantha.

What I am confused about is how the lore does not currently support a cathan district.

My Advice Wait…… Wait until the market is stabilized. Wait until you see for a entire month a nice picture of floors and ceilings with the item you are buying.

The market is unstable at the moment we don’t know what it’s final resting place will be. If in doubt ask in the trading post section of the forums.

I was going to draw some nice ascii art but forums does not like it.

Discouraged from Upgrading Towers

in WvW

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

If you capture them back again you win. If you lose them you can capture them back more often… so you win more.

And regarding the “end win” with the points ticking: Nobody really cares… cause the match is 1 week and barely anyone plays 24/7 the whole match. So it is not “your” win. Not much incentive to fight for win there. sPvP is different cause you play the whole match(cause it is only <15 mins). You can affect the whole match and then feel good because you won.

Here you feel nothing… cause you might only be able to play a small amount of time… and then not even have time to play at the reset. There is no real “win”. Not a feeling like in sPvP in a tournament match.

The only small wins you feel are after you take a tower or keep(and this feels better if there was a long battle)… but then again if you just lose it and can capture other stuff to get “wins” it doesn’t matter if you lose stuff.

This is exactly how the game should not be played in my opinion. The game was designed to cap and hold not cap and fold. It is this attitude that is discouraging those who want to play the game like it was designed.

My Question is what is causing players to have this attitude? What in the game is encouraging them to have it?

A bit part of the problem was the advertising. Most people were expecting a farm when this event was announced. Players expectations were found to be otherwise. I like the mechanics I like the way telegraphs are used. I like the special abilities that they have. Sadly because the loot is so so in comparison to what it was before a lot of people are not having fun and leaving the event even people who would normally do the event as designed if it was advertised and our expectations were set correctly.

[Suggestion] Event notification

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

anzenketh.3759

Do you think that showing all of these events makes the map feel cluttered? Would it make finding the information you care about more difficult?

I think that depends on the customization of the UI. Something this game lacks at the moment. For some it would only add to the already existing clutter for some it would be useful.

When we had the event API working those that wanted it went out to look for it. Some only cared about the world bosses and got one of those timers. Some cared about all the events and looked for one of those timers.

I think that work should be focused on enabling the event API system again so players can choose the looks/amount of information available to them. Obviously it can not be run based upon your home server. Perhaps something with OATH can be used to detect what shard you are on and what events are on that shard to enable the API again. That way the community can determine what would be useful for them and make things based up on that.

Feature pack: why the change of heart?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Account bound:
They are adding new systems in the future that will provide the character progression.

Mixing PvP and PvE:
PvP did not take off like they hoped it would. They are trying to get more players to play it by getting rid of a big reason why some do not play it. They are not forcing you to play it however. Unless you are going for one of the PvP exclusive skins.

They did not change the core of PvP however. Stats are are still standardized and you still are automatically at level 80.

MegaServer:
People really did not buy server transfers for PvE they bought them for WvW. They need to get rid of the ghosttown feel in a lot of the maps. This was the best way to do it.

[Suggestion] Add acknowledged feature.

There are a lot of threads in the bug forum that without at least some acknowledgement players can be rather worried.

To resolve this I think two buttons that developers can press on the first post on the thread would be useful. This button will simply make a post that states a acknowledgement of sorts and specify that you can not provide a ETA.

Other buttons that may be useful that do the same thing are

Not a bug.
More information required.
A button that would add [Suggestion] to the start of a title.

Damage Meters and Inspect Commands

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

People don’t want to get called out for being bad nor do they want to improve. Hence all the vitriol for DPS/Inspect meters, disguised as “I play how I want” ™

No they don’t want to get called out for not playing in the extreme end of efficiency when it is not needed. There is a balance that is needed in all things. I run a more balanced gear set for the simple reason I like having more health to afford room for error. There is room for glass cannons in the game but a DPS meter will force even more people to go glass cannon.

PVT and Clerics need their place in the game also.

Gliding unfun (exhaustion bar, immersion)

- I can understand the reasoning for the exhaustion bar while gliding, but I find it to be seriously unfun (and illogical if a wood-and-fabric-glider folds in mid-air because it’s
“energy” runs out…)

Level up the mastery.
