In the original Guild Wars title, Dhuum, the first god of Death disallowed any form of Undead or Resurrection. This was why he was viewed as an unfair and largely unforgiving entity. Grenth and the Seven Reapers opposed this and struck him down, deposing him as the God of Death and allowing Grenth to assume that mantle. Grenth subsequently allowed for both Resurrection at appropriate locations, as well as for quasi-undead. That being the construction of minions from the dead, but not actually re-animating the bodies/attempting to harness the dead souls.
So necros we construct minions from the dead, but not actually re-animating the bodies/attempting to harness the dead souls.
edit: Heck in the first one, we had to have a corpse in the first place to raise a minion. How i miss that feature from gw1.

Retaliation does not reduce damage sadly. I did get some nice results against some ele’s and some warriors thanks to all the cleave they do with a well timed WoB and bone explosion. Good results being they removed 1/4 of their life or more for me. The down side though was i was left with just fleshie alive and i had to use my heal to setup the aoe retaliation so i didnt have my good heal up to keep me up or him up. I would love to have more light combos besides my heal, might make it worth trying again.
Edit: I dont think it worked as well as i would hope because alot of the time against other players who observed what buffs i had so they knew when to hold off on attacking with aoes or just focus on me more.

All the advice i have is don’t waste your time using conditions, power based skills will get you much further since conditions do not hurt burrows.
I want to like minions, i miss my old gw1 necro so much. I have two issue’s for not liking them right now. The first is if i must fill my bar with utilities that have even a 10% chance to not work they are not good skills because they will fail to work/attack when you need them to. I cannot have my utility slots filled with skills that have a 10% of just not doing the job they should be doing. I am being generous on the 10% part because we have ways to get them to attack but I should not need to use them because it takes time away from using my other skills to a better effect.
The second is they are not exactly expendable or durable. I strongly believe no minion should be longer then 30 seconds cooldown because of how brittle they are even with the 50% more hp trait. Yes we could heal them up with staff 2, ds 4, and the other regan from the off hand that escapes me at this time, but we cant make them dodge aoes from boss mobs, players, or just melee range aoe thus dying in near one hit. We just have no way to always make them tougher so they can take those hits to get the most out of them. General pve they are fine, and boss mobs are slowly being changed targeting players first instead more and more so that is helping i will grant you that much.
Spectral walk has only saved me when i attempt to jump off a cliff with others following me and i active the second part to port me back up, ever other time it has never helped me get away.

The rallies have been fixed for vengeance, mist form, and illusion of life this last patch. Also lupi has been fixed as well. Its on the second page in the link below. It is still possible just not going to often since it will target players first or should.

Just have the group keep placing the barrels and keep running back to grab more then again run back and place, repeat over and over, the npcs do have a limited amount that can be out at a time so sooner or later they just cant pick them back up.
I was under the impression that was fixed already for the most part. It can still happen but “Hey folks, I can’t seem to find the thread, but there was one that asked about necro reanimator trait, and lupicus using his grub skill on them. This behavior effected Necro minions, Mesmer clones, Ranger pets, and even the follower NPC.

I must have missed something but since when was necro wells always going todo 10k damage? You have to sit in the well for entire 5 second duration to start.
If you are building for power/condition/precision ill admit marks, wells, and ds 4 combined will do some nasty aoe damage with a well bombing build in mind but that is at least a 36 seconds ill be without my big burst from the 4 staff marks, both damaging wells, and ds 4. I often use flesh golem and dagger 3 to start with so i can knock down then root them since most pop stun breaker after the charge so its easier to set them up for the well/mark bombing. So ill be left with very little to finish the other player off with if the other player gets away by evading, porting, blocking, etc at the right time. Just like how most players evade the warriors 100b combo mostly, evading, blocking, or whatever at the correct time.

1- We have our issues like every other class for pve/pvp environments and people often just want things to see big numbers instantly so thieves and warriors are played often because of that, necro is mostly smaller numbers over time and do require you to know the class alittle better. If you want look into power builds or well bombing builds if you want big numbers quickly instead of over time or hybrid and condition builds if you like over time damage.
2- Major issues are alot of traits are just not good, or are in horrible positions in the tree like closer to death and axe training being grand master traits. Most necros will take closer to death trait, not all but most will because closer to death affects all power based damage (not conditions like bleed, burns,etc) while axe just affect axe. Alot of us also dislike the reanimator trait being forced on anyone going down the toughness line and giving us a almost worthless dead rat which we cannot control and at one time made a number of fights harder or had a chance to make harder like Lupi from Arah. Also at one time soul reaping gave no bonus to life force and that took months for them to fix which really annoyed me and i am sure others while some probably never knew it didnt work. The ai for our minions is still broken for the most part because they wont attack on there own and in this game sometimes you just dont have those few seconds to use the minion skills to force them to attack. They also used to run off and attack whatever they wanted but that has been fixed.
I know i typed alot for the second question but really it is not that bad, Anet is just slow at fixing things and like little changes so not to change the meta game to much at a time.

No, lich still can summons 5 little undead rodents.
I dont use him often but when i do, i am never disappointed with his damage, surviving and his ability is often used for a quick travel to get out of aoes and i have even used him to kite lupi around at one time during his second phase for a few minutes. The other minions i wont comment on because I have never had good result with them but worm is a good minion actually.

They have no need to, gear and stats are fine at the current level and they can make game harder with new mob types, skills, and such without adding new levels. They did it for years in gw1 and I loved it. They can make the AI better, adjust hp, damage of mobs, etc.
Heck they should polish the game and adjust traits they already have out for the classes so everyone could have more builds to be viable for pvp/wvwvw/pve, number of traits and underpowered, or in horrible spots, and will not ever be used because they are not needed/wanted because they have better options to take. Right now most class’s can have 1-2 good builds and most others are just underpowered compared the better ones so they are not worth using.
Bah it took months for them to fix the jagged horror rally from illusion of life, vengeance and the ele down state mist form, what makes you think they will fix this quickly?

They didnt fix them, they just patched it so they dont run off and attack mobs at random as much. They still sometimes stand around and chat on cell phones while you are dying, unless you want to spend the few seconds to use the minion skills to force them to attack, sometimes you can other times you want to be doing more with your current weapons or other skills.

Just because it worked for your group does not mean it always works correctly for others, this game has many instances in which certain event/boss fights that work and then other times for no reason fails to work correctly.
Not being able to res or use waypoints while your group is out of combat because someones dead body is taking damage is a bug that should be fixed as soon as they can, wont stop many groups but it could slow them down while the one player logs to desktop, then travels back to the group.

No, lupi will not make or break any more groups then before because the run back was already so long most groups wont notice the difference.
You have a leap, teleport to foes, near 100% upkeep of swiftness with little work. Also you forgot necros on your list for signets with runspeed.
edit: Fun little thing you can/could do is use your leap off great sword + the teleport to target to cover a nice chunk of ground quickly, it was alittle tricky to get the timing rught. The names escape me but it used to be a great way to surprise another player to see my guard cover close to a 1500 gap quickly.

To bad axe training is paired with a far better grandmaster trait for necros.
So just took down an Elementalist with my Necro 1 on 1 (which is surprise enough), got him to within a sliver of death and he revives of this stupid pet and kills me …. this just frustrates me beyond belief.
Why can’t they just remove it…. so many things in this game are starting to annoy the absolute kitten out of me. The community asked for it to be remove and they just made it stick around even longer like some sort of cruel punishment for choosing this class.
So, he used mist form and ran over the horror and he got rally, or did he actually kill the kill pet in the normal downstate because i just want to be clear if it was mist form rally like how vengeance and illusion of life work or not. or just a normal kill which has not happened in a really long time.
I like alot of players get bored of trash after running it 5-6 times so we skip alot of it. Ill kill all the trash but doing every run just is not fun.

To be honest im amazed you got hit by necro grasp. That thing will normally miss anything that is beyond the 600 range as long as it moves.
Bumping because it should be known that this will be fixed sometime soon.
The only issue with maw hitting the minion is it takes longer to complete. He doesnt get more powerful with a buff (lupi) or create more aoes based on players and pets (alpha and other boss’s), or attacks adds in boss fights (ta tree for example) so maw one isnt a issue as much as other fights are.
As a necro, i find the warrior point blank aoe damage with your melee weapons to be acceptable, i am being hit/slashed/smashed in giant slabs of metal so i do expect it to hurt. Now the ranged piercing nuke from rifle should be looked at though, and really that might be the only thing that should be looked into for aoe on you side.
I know your class has issues in wvwvw and tpvp getting within range or staying in range and this should be looked as a far trade off because many times you just cant get close enough quickly or stay close enough to get the job done.
@gamefreak: keeping you in combat was fixed a couple patches ago, so 2 is no longer an issue. This coming patch, they are fixing Lupicus and Alpha to not target pets or NPC’s, so again, that will no longer be an issue.
Having to deal with it for months upon months will not make me hate it less once it is fixed.
Also i forgot to add, still allows for warrior vengeance and mesmer illusion of life to get rallies off it. They did fix other rally forms from it so i kinda forgot about rallies.
Reasons i hated the trait and still do
1- Has pulled aggro on it own and gotten me killed along with a group as well.
2- Has kept me in combat after mobs are dead, has not happened recently
3- Has made boss fights harder then they need to be, looking at alpha and lupi.
4- Used to die in under 11 seconds on a 30 second cooldown, was completely fail, now you can have more then 2 up at a time.
5- still can barely hit a moving target
6- its bleed damage is still weak
7- forced on a necro who doesn’t use minions to have them if they want one of our best traits.
8- it looks like a fetus for heaves sake, bring back gw1 design.
edit: 9- still can be used to rally off of while under vengeance or illusion of life from mesmer, did read some place mist form can rally off the JH but could not find proof of this unlike vengeance and illusion of life still giving out rally.

edit: then i am not sure, was about two weeks ago i played my necro in a instance so memory is hazy if fear actually stopped any attacks correctly.

Well, the necro staff 1 also has a bug with it going beyond the1200 range, but not at the 1500 range. If you dont believe me, test it for yourself.
It also takes 3-3.5 seconds to get to 1200+ range. Been awhile since i timed it so not sure if it is 3 seconds or 3.5 seconds to get to 1200 which is a really long time.
First off you just have to hit 2 once so you dont have to keep spamming 2, although if it makes you feel better feel free todo so because it will pulse every second on its own. Secondly it will hit randomly up to 5 targets in the ring each pulse it does for the duration of the elite.
I think he means we take double damage from conditions while in ds.
edit: also applying your conditions with a decent rotation to get 10+ bleeds plus epidemic then popping BiP you will normally get better damage then using BiP before the stack of bleeds in case you didnt know Mr. Gnome.

you can be pulled by engi and mesmer, feared out, chilled/crippled by any non-projectile ground targeted aoe..dunno if im missing anything else
Necromancers have a trait that makes the staff marks unblockable. Everything should have a counter to it, that’s how some builds are effective against some and ineffective against others.. makes sense. But how ArenaNet implemented that is debatable.
Well they are forced to have jagged horror if they want that, and that thing has caused more deaths for groups and necros themselves then any trait should ever be allowed. Little things has aggrod on its own, lupi still gets a buff sometimes (patch for grubs is still not in the game but it is there), AI is just horrible, used to die in under 10 seconds, used to keep them in combat (seems to be fixed), still can be kited around by players so it never hits them, list goes on.
Whats scary is some players are 60+.
Great job mate, was a very good show of blocks, evades, and good use of weapon swapping.
He has not been fixed yet, you have just been lucky recently. The fix is ready just has not been pushed out atleast to my knowledge.

Wethospu, that is amazing job. I thought your solo lupi fights are impressive but to see the the boss of path 2 done by just you is brilliant. Also i dont like to melee on lupi, its a preference really but them kicking themselves out of the instance is very funny.
They will never move last refuge. No matter what reasons you have even if it gets groups killed in instances or free rallys from illusion of life or vengeance, attacking or trying to attack mobs you dont even look at, or does not provide any benefit while you are in combat 1 vs 1 like everyone else 5 point triat because it spawns on death and then might keep you in combat to it dies. Anet will not remove it or move it for you. The necro community has been wanting the 5 point reanimator to be turned off, swapped, or just left blank for months. Then they gave it more hp or lowered its health degen and we can finally have more then 1 up at a time for the good it does which is still nothing since it still attacks what it wants, still can be used as a cheap rally under certain conditions.

If only every class had access to vigor besides from using the sigils on weapons to get some endurance back on weapon swaps and food. I dont mind having a set of weapons for this fight or even making food just him and lupi but its really annoying.
