Brief breakdown of all classes’ spells:

Warrior – Lots of physical contact, a few blocks, knockdowns (crowd control), immobilize, fear, etc… Revolves heavily around melee combat (there are effective ranged builds also though), basically hits like a truck, looks like a truck, fights like a truck. Fairly easy to learn.

Guardian – Similarly prefers melee combat, with less physical contact use and more magical content. Jack of all trades; great healing, great tanking, great damage (only 1 in a single build though, cant have all at once), less gap closers (leaps, charges), more blocks, a teleport, lots of support to the team. Also fairly easy to play.

Ranger – Known as “pewpewpew” due to the ease of play on the most common build (90% damage from autoattack and skill no. 2). Strong overall, great for solo training (pet tanks it up for you), great range fights (shoots really far), tons of damage, dies quickly however. Good at both condition and raw damage. Skill cap: easiest to play likely, but can be challenging to play certain builds to a full extent.

Thief – This is a personal favourite. Relies on stealth and evades to survive, one of the strongest single target damage outputs in-game, great for roaming in WvW, easy disengaging, surprise attacks, etc… Can do both ranged and melee damage, both equally strong (in PvE more or less melee focus however), quite versatile, lots of viable builds. Can be a bit tricky to start with, but not too hard to learn either. I can help here ^.^

Engineer – No. Sorry, Im a big PvP fan, and no. I hate engineers and they hate me. Joke aside, its a great class, but one of the trickiest to learn (unless turret specced), so Id not recommend it to a started. Lots of weapons, weapon kits, turrets, etc… You’ll hate them the moment you first oppose them in PvP. Guaranteed.

Necromancer – Y u do dis, its a great class. Hands down, its really easy to play, but fun too if you ask me. Sure, PvE players wont love you for it, and you may not be their first pick for dungeons, but in WvW and PvE, my friend will you make them run! Brings in lots of conditions, minions, fear (crowd control), heavy power damage, vulnerability and AoE attacks. Great class overall, but a bit suicidal at times (can kill yourself with it lol). Very fun to play imo.

Elementalist – Not a class Id pick for my forst, since it has soooooo many skills and options to it, all of which you have to master in order to excel at it, but if you like a bit of a challenge, do pick this! Great class, utilising the four elements to deal heavy damage, control the enemies, support the allies, or just run around blank. The downside is, you usually get 1 or 2 hit by enemies if not built properly in PvP and WvW lol, but the beauty of it is in that aswell. That and how fast you can adapt to whatever life throws at you. :P

Mesmer – Illusions here, illusions there, now you see me, now you don’t, now you’re dead. <- Sums it up. You’ll be hiding behind your illusions alot, dealing great damage, avoiding attacks, annoying player opponents. It’s a winner class imo. Not to mention you’ll be teleporting half of your server around in WvW lol. Pretty fun to teleport 20 people into an enemy tower and just wreck it. ;D

Hope this helped.

Hi Jay, and welcome to Guild Wars 2!

Regarding the server, it matters very little; it only really matters for WvW (World Vs World – Server wars). If you don’t bother joining a NA server, Ehmry Bay would be very glad to have you on our side!

If you want to make a difference and make your effort count, join us! To stop with the propaganda however, join whichever server you like really.

Guild Wars 2 is very balanced in terms of PvP especially, so no class is really “OP”; go with whatever you like the idea of! If you need help with anything in-game, let me know, I’ll help you out as much as I can! I’ll add you as a friend in-game aswell, later today.

Also, builds can be swapped within a minute, from fully damage oriented to a complete bunker one, so dont worry.

Summa sumarum: Join whatever server you like the sound of (Ehmry Bay welcomes you!), grab whichever class you seem to enjoy playing, kick kitten in-game!

Hope to see you in action soon!

Current ''best'' Ele WvW roaming build

Hi there Forsving!

Im a little short on time right now, so I’ll only throw the basic information on the table now, and will give you a full guide later on today. (seems like you’re not in that much of a hurry anyways)

Starting off, you’ll need to know Elementalists are one of the trickiest classes in GW2 to play to their full extent, but they can change the tides of a fight anytime, even if still learning (especially if with an experienced team). That being said, 9 times out of 10 you’ll want to use DOUBLE DAGGERS as a weapon set. The build is usually 0/2/0/6/6, with a few little variations (will explain all later).

Gear-wise you want to get as close to Celestial stats as possible. This build has its own rotation which normally goes through as it is, but ofcourse needs to be adapted to situations often.

The idea is to open with air attunement; 4 for a gap close, 5 for a knockback. Then we swap to fire attunement, which grants us might. We use the skill 3 to again close the gap and land it on the enemy (knockback creates a gap about the length of this skill, so its a great combo), followed into a fire 4. We then want to swap to earth attunement while the fire fields are still up, and do a dodge, and use up all of your combo finishers to stack might on yourself. Hopping into Water attunement is only suggested for health sake, if you’re losing too much of it. You normally then repeat the procedure, with little variations. :P

Hope I satisfied your primary thirst, more coming later today

First Time Playing guild wars 2

in Players Helping Players

As Ascimator suggested, there are no real factions here; the war goes on between servers, so the one you choose is the one you’ll represent. Me, I belong to a US server named Ehmry Bay, and you’re welcome to join us here. We kick kitten , I promise. Even though there is no difference in PvP gear or PvE gear, most people keep more than one set of gear with them for each character. The reason is adapting to different situations; you usually gear up a little bit tankier for PvP than you do for PvE, to make sure you dont get wrecked in a second. Also, PvE has little tolerance towards condition damage, since most mobs die before your conditions could tick properly. Last but not least, I’d recommend a Guardian as the best all-round class, but you could pick any class here really. Classes are very balanced in GW2, unlike WoW. Every class can do anything here.

If you care to join the ranks of Ehmry Bay, I’ll be happy to help you out in-game aswell.

Hope I helped.

A Balance Between PvP & PvE Updates

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: oRx.9584

oRx.9584

When perusing the Dev Tracker, it seems there is quite a bit of discussion with Devs about the changes in PvP.

It’s kind of funny…the PvE side of things seems full of comments about how everything in game caters to the PvP side. PvP did just get an update in the last Release.

Good luck.

Do you consider an interface change an update? Me neither. Thats all PvP got. An interface change.

Returning player: guardian or Warrior?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: oRx.9584

oRx.9584

Guardian, definitely.

I was at the crossroads for a while also, but after I’ve experienced the Guardian at its full potential, I’ve made my call. It is alot more versatile than a Warrior, alot tankier (full bunker Guard can take more damage than a full bunker Warr, and a full zerker Guard can tank more than a full zerker Warr), alot more support (Empower and shouts) for your zerg / guild / group, better lore, nicer weapons (staff, greatsword, mace, focus), etc…

The only thing we’re worse at than Warriors is mobility. But little do I care when Im hitting the enemies from afar and have a leap and a teleport at my disposal on relatively short cooldowns. An immobilize too.

Id roll a Guardian, for more information on the profession or the builds, send me a PM here on the forums, or add me in-game.

Hope I helped.

The closest comparisson would surely be a Guardian, which is also what I suggest. You can’t go wrong with a Guardian in any aspect of the game, and you can very well do anything in-game (farm, tank, great DPS, support, crowd control, etc…), so yeah. If you need help playing a Guardian or learning the ropes, add me in-game and we’ll figure it out together.

Merry christmas and welcome to GW2.

Profession: Ranger, Thief, or Necromancer

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: oRx.9584

oRx.9584

Hey Otto!

If I understand correctly you’re mainly a PvE player. Casual or no casual, you should really know that Necromancers arent really sought after for dungeons as they offer little to no support to the group. This does not however mean you cannot play a necromancer, just have in mind, some groups may reject you cause of the class (very few, but some). If you ever plan on WvWing or whatever, a Thief is a great call. So much fun to play in PvP (WvW especially) it really makes all other classes look bad if you ask me. And the Ranger? Well, who knows. It’s a solid class for any chore in GW2, but that’s about it. Good call for a casual playstyle I guess, plus theyre extremely easy to play and start with (great for new players).

This is it from my side; got any questions, ask.

Hope I helped abit at least.

Custom Arena (PvP) Questions

1. After your arena time expires, you have 2 weeks of time to refill the arena days. Otherwise, you will have to create a new arena all over again. Note however, during these 2 weeks your arena will probably be in stagnation – you will not be able to play in it until you refil it (I think so at least)

2. Unsurre, can you paste a Wiki article here please and I’ll try to interprete it to you?

3. Not 100% sure, but I am pretty sure it is so indeed.

Swiftness / Speed Cap?

in Players Helping Players

Indeed, the highest speed will apply when using swiftness/sigils. Also through various traits you can get to 50% speed increase also; then that is the one that applies.

If you got alot of swiftness on you you’re better off losing the signet and adding something else, such as a cantrip.

The item shares it’s skin with Leather Aquabreather, it doesn’t show in the wardrobe. So I can’t change it on another diving apparatus.

Uh-oh, that’s weird then. In that case it is an item unqiue detail, which is weird though, as if you apply another item’s skin to this one it will change its name and all details aside from the stats. So I still am pretty sure the effect disappears. I got some transmutations I dont need, and can try it later on today when I get home to be 100% sure, if you want.

Not really sure about the hues themselves, but I figure this:

Guardian: Gold/yellow-white (royal knight kind of), blue-white (classic), black-white (actually looks really cool imo)

Thief: Darker hues (I used to run midnight teal or something like that, looked epic), white-red (white ninja style)

Elementalist: red-gold (royal), white-gold, or if you got the right hues, you could even make a tri-color elementalist, three colors resembling your versatility and attunements

Warrior: I like to use lots of brown, red, grey and that kind of colours here, but only because my characters name includes “savage” lol :P Simillar to Guardian otherwise

Mesmer: Purple obviously, to make your illusions look as much alike you as possible.

Necro: Dark as can be

Engi: Brown (resembles rust)

I agree with you guys, GW2 is very repetitive. That is why I only play WvW and PvE ever. 0% map completion on all characters atm with only 1.5k AP (they dont come as fast in PvP it appears) and already bored of PvE. So yeah, try to find some comfort in this, it’s the most dynamic element of the game.

New player help?

oRx.9584

Dude thank you so much! I’m level 17 I think, just finished the starting area completely so it’s just a matter of where to go now even with the little arrow telling me where to go haha

I’m in Lions Arch now and that place is so big, I have no idea what’s actually there or what to do there! haha

I will definitely speak to you in game if that’s ok? Dreamy was helping me with combat but I had to go offline and he’s not been on since and I really want to play the game and not feel lost and totally confused xD

You’re very welcome!

Lion’s arch is what I love to call a “middleman”. It is where most players go in-between their training for several reasons; It has all the important features a big city can offer; a bank, merchants and a trading post, but what the most important feature of Lion’s Arch really is: Asura Gates. It has teleports to all of the races’ major cities, making it a great hub from which you can access all racial zones and all zones nearby those.

Brief explanation; each race has a 1-10 zone, and a few zones surrounding it (10-15, 15-20, 20-25, etc…), meaning you got several training options, as you can choose to train in any of these, and they are all equally good. The problem is you usually finish off a zone before reaching its level cap (you are level 22 when you finish the 20-25 zone, so you cannot proceed to the next) – in these cases, you go to another race’s zone of the same level.

Also don’t be afraid to finish off lower level zones at any level; it all gives solid xp!

A question regarding the /age command

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: oRx.9584

oRx.9584

That’s weird.

If I recall correctly, /age would give you 2 different statistics;
1. “On this character, you have played X hours over a total of Y days” <- the character’s age and playtime
and
2. “Across all characters you have played X hours over a total of Y days.” <- account’s age and playtime.

I haven’t used the /age command in a while though, so I will confirm when I next log-in.

I’ll keep you updated, but Im pretty sure thats how it was!

New player help?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: oRx.9584

oRx.9584

I’ll do that with you if you’d like!

I’ll start with the basics here, and we’ll continue in-game (unless you prefer to read about it here, in that case I’ll stick to this).

First things first, starting your journey you will select a race. Each race has their own lore, which emphasizes their characteristics and style. For the practical part, races are of little importance, so you should choose whichever one you seem to like the most.

The next step is of alot more importance; selecting a profession. Generally GW2 has a very balanced profession system, but not all professions are equally good at all aspects (necromancers offer very little support to the group for instance), so you should pick accordingly. For more information on professions, contact me and I will furthermore explain them.

Once in-game you’ll see there’s lots of things Guild Wars 2 can offer; Crafting is based on refining the materials gathered on the field and converting them into practical items (gear, inventory boxes, food, etc…) I’ll fully explain crafting some other time if you don’t mind, as it’s a very extensive topic.

Where to go first once your character is made? Wherever. Mostly, you want to follow your character’s personal story and help the citizens of Tyria out (the heart missions) – This is a great start to learn the game mechanics, how to play your class, gain levels and earn money!

Besides money, you’ll be rewarded with karma. Eastern cultures believed in karma deeply, as in “good deeds will be done to those who do good deeds”, if you get me. Basically, you are rewarded with it for helping the citizens out. You can purchase gear, crafting supplies, etc with it. Why? Cause you’ve been a good lad! :P

This is it for now lol, dont want to throw too much at you at once. Add me in-game and send me a whisper whenever and I’ll show you around! Also, you can contact me on here just aswell.

Hope I helped!

New character - Best support class?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: oRx.9584

oRx.9584

What you’re looking for is likely the Elementalist, which is a light armored equivalent of a Guardian. Elementalists are great for spreading boons amongst allies and auras too, and are very very tanky for a light class (if traited so). The downside is, you will often be despised in dungeons and fractals if built this way, because however we put it, your damage does suffer for it. Sadly (or luckily for some) GW2 focuses on all players going all-out in damage, and only add a little bit of support, since every man has to heal himself and keep himself alive.

That being said, an Elementalist is your best bet definitely.

Hope I helped, if you need any more help add me in-game!

Returning noob help!

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: oRx.9584

oRx.9584

Welcome back Aons!

I will give you a quick little mini guide in note form here, but if you have any further questions, feel free to add me in-game.

Things to do on a new character are practically unlimited;

Mostly, you will want to be leveling your characters to reach that level 80 cap; this can be done in a variety of ways:
1. Hearts – The most common way to level a character, hearts also provide you with a decent amount of karma, which can be used to purchase crafting materials or gear (even exotic at level 80). Doing the hearts regularly also contributes to your daily achievements most of the time and brings you towards the map completion.

2. Dynamic events and event trains – Normally these are random encounters, but some people focus on doing these, as they are a somewhat steady xp gain with the least traveling needed. You should also do these if you run into them while doing hearts; a heart can wait as it will always be there. A dynamic event won’t.

3. Edge of the Mists – You’ve probably heard of this already as it is currently one of the fastest training methods in-game. I have to warn you however, you won’t experience much of the game if you train by this, as it is very one-sided. Anyhow, it is a World Vs World map that is used as a train mainly. The bonuses to this method are huge; one of the fastest xp methods in-game, great Badges of honor gain (badges can be used to purchase level 80 Exotic armor), great Karma gain (another currency you can use for plenty different goods) and in general lots of fun (for me at least).

4. Crafting and gathering nodes – Why not farm some nodes around the world? This will get you to meet a large portion of Guild Wars 2’s map, gather a nice bunch of resources which you can either sell for some decent coin, or level crafting with! Crafting is also very useful in the end-game, as you need it to form Legendaries, and in most cases even Ascended gear.

You can also do some PvP which will often provide you with great gear / crafting materials and skins you would otherwise receive in dungeons or such and also provides you with Tomes of knowledge used for leveling your characters up.

I hope I helped there, there’s just soooo much more to it I didn’t bother writing, cause I’m unsure about what you really want answered. So please do add me in-game and shoot out any further questions you may have!

Good luck, hope to see you in-game soon!

Welcome back again

Regards, oRx.

EDIT: About the auramancer elementalist I’m not really sure what build do you mean by that? If it is the D/D Elementalist build it definitely is viable still, but there are more succesful builds out there aswell!

Just play whatever you are comfortable with really though!

sPvP help

Feel free to add me in-game for some advices or mentoring, but here’s some general notes:

1. 1 thief should always be stealing the enemy’s beast (Svanir)

2. No more than 2 players should ever be attacking the beast (Svanir)

3. Bunker builds should carry the orb. At least 1 player should be escorting the orb, the one with most CC (Hammer warriors, terrormancers) or the one with highest damage output (thieves, mesmers)

4. Far should always be left out, unless mid is swarmed with enemies you cant kill

5. No more than 1 person should ever be capping a point.

6. Nobody should ever be fighting off-point unless absolutely necessary

7. Ranged classes should do damage from the ledges and should avoid standing in the circle at all cost.

8. Have strong circulation around the map, and have 1 man on each of your capped points or very close to it at all times, able to contest.

9. Stomping isnt always better nor is it always faster than genuine killing.

This is the basics I could come up with lol, if you want more info or anything let me know, and add me in-game for a demonstration ^.^

Hope I helped!

Here’s the current sPvP meta the way I see it:

D/D Elementalist (insane might stacks, very tanky, lots of surpressed power, does both condi and raw damage)

Hambow Warrior (insane damage, nice mobility, lots of CC, alot of condi cleanse)

Turret Engi (great AoE damage, CC, lots of healing, condi and raw damage, insane point holder, one of the hardest professions to beat in point holding 1v1)

Decap Engi (unkillable, very mobile, nice CC)

D/P Thief (amazing damage, nice stealth utility, lots of blinds)

Shatter Mesmer (famous for their insane bursts, can often 2-hit an enemy, but is fairly hard to play)

Phantasm Mesmer (one of the strongest 1v1 builds in-game, insane damage, good survival through Blink and stealth, very passive gameplay, easy to learn)

Meditation Guardian (heavy damage, nice condi cleanse, very tankable for a DPS build)

Power Necro (tons of damage from autoattack, nice range, good CC, great overall fighter and easy to learn)

Power Ranger (insane damage from afar, shred things up with Maul, nice CC)

And theres more where that came from… :P If you want more information on any of these builds let me know and I’ll help you out If you want more builds also let me know, there’s a dozen more lol :P

Hope I helped!

Yes and no. Server switching in general in GW2 costs gems which can be bought with cash or in-game gold; the price is same regardless of the area the server youre transfering to belongs to. The only criteria changing the price is the server’s population; more populated servers are generally more expensive to transfer to than less populated ones.

Also, server transfering is free if you have no characters on the account. So you can always delete the characters and transfer then, storing all your belongings into the bank to make sure that doesn’t disappear aswell, but you have to consider if its worth it.

Honestly, theres little to no difference between EU or NA servers, other than its peak times

Hope I helped.

Welcome to GW2 CursedGhoul!

First off you need to understand that being European doesn’t limit your world choice to EU. I am European, but play for a Northern American server.

That being said the best European world and I can suggest to you overall is Gandara. If you want to stick to EU, go there.

If you want to give NA a try, come over to Ehmry Bay, we’d be happy to help you out and roll with you!

As far as the race goes, its irrelevant. Choose whatever you like the look of. And yes, necromancers are great. I main a necromancer and Ill be happy to help you out with yours whenever Add me in-game for more information!

Warrior PvP build? Need help

in Warrior

Posted by: oRx.9584

oRx.9584

Hey guys!

I just started a Warrior and Im wondering about decent PvP builds.

I only play PvP and WvW, so no PvE builds really…

So, what I mainly want is a power build, since Im not a fan of condi, but condition is fine if it has good damage… Also, Id try to avoid using the longbow if possible, as I really prefer melee over ranged.

Please do suggest some builds that would fit my playstyle.

Thanks in advance, oRx.

Trait XIII

in PvP

Posted by: oRx.9584

oRx.9584

1. There doesn’t seem to be a class trainer in PvP, although it should be according to the trait guide (correct me if Im wrong).

They are there, have always been there. However if you are on a low level (I don’t know the minimum level to see the overhead icon) you may not notice them all lined up.

I can’t answer the other questions like how are you supposed to have the gold and trait points in order to compete with others that have these traits, on a low level character. Obviously this was a design decision and fair play was not part of that decision.

I took a screenshot to show them in relation to the new Laurel/TP/Bank NPCs added yesterday.

Thank you big time Gosu, I’ve found the trainers now, and I can interact with them also.

That being said, I’m still having issues with gathering the skill points, if not else for the traits… I think something should be done regarding this…. >_>

Anyhow, my main problem is taken away, so oh well…. Thanks again for your help

Trait XIII

in PvP

Posted by: oRx.9584

oRx.9584

Hey guys!

I was deciding which class to play for a while now and have tried out all but the Engineer and Ranger. Today I decided to try these two out aswell, but the builds I wanted to run weren’t available, cause I cannot get the trait XIII.

Alright, I’ll buy it I thought at first, but buy it where?

1. There doesn’t seem to be a class trainer in PvP, although it should be according to the trait guide (correct me if Im wrong).

2. I cannot speak to any other trainer outside of PvP, since they require a level of 30 to interact with.

3. As a level 2, where exactly am I supposed to get the skill points anyways?

4. This needs to be fixed.

Gw2 PvP is supposingly all about equality, well guess what, its not. Its a Pay-to-win situation in the case of builds, since without buying INSANE amounts of money for a new player (10G is insane for me, yes) we don’t have access to many build features, which is a shame….

If you have any suggestions on how I could grab that XIII trait please let me know.

Regards, oRx.

New computer - Need advice

in Account & Technical Support

I just found another one, but doesn’t really seem that good, I can’t tell though since I’m not an expert lol. The specifications are next:

Processor: Intel Core i3 4160 (3,5 GHz)
Graphics card: HD 4400
RAM: 4 GB DDR3 1600 MHz

Is this better or worse than the previous one?

Also, you haven’t really answered my main question yet squishy, which is whether these computers are sufficient for GW2 playing on mid+ graphics smoothly?

Im really not willing to play any more demanding games than GW2 is for now, so if it runs GW2 smoothly, it’s a win-win. I don’t need anything else.

Thanks in advance, oRx.

New computer - Need advice

Great posts guys, thanks alot for the information!

I was looking at this computer earlier today, and wonder what you guys think about it; will it be able to run GW2 smoothly, without the need to run on like minimum settings lol;

Processor: intel core i5-4440
RAM capacity: 8GB (1×8GB)
Graphics card: Nvidia geforce gt730
Graphics card capacity (idk what this is): 1024 MB

So my question is, would this be a decent computer to play GW2 on? Also, if not, which of the components need improving?

I would build my system, not buy a packaged deal. the i5-4440 is the best part of that system. The weakest is the GT730 (sad poor excuse for a GPU if you ask me).

Appreciate your response alot, but frankly, I don’t think I’ll build my own system.

There are several reasons for this, the main one being I’m not very skilled with computer hardware, and therefore do not have an idea what goes where, or what it is good with.

I’ve had a self-built computer before, it turned out the processor was too good for the vents to be able to cool it off properly, which resulted in poor functionality and after a while the death of my system.

Another problem is, if I buy it part-by-part, I will have trouble fixing it if anything goes south, since there are several shops included then, and nobody I can complain to really, since it’s self-built.

Yeah… I’ll stick to pre-mades I’m sure, they know what they put in I guess… :P

Anyways I’ll keep searching and come back with more ideas once I get them

Thanks again, appreciate it alot.

Regards, oRx.

Overheating issue

in Account & Technical Support

First thing you can do is open your computer up, remove any dust gathering inside (the dust adds alot to the overheating problem usually), make sure the air ventilation is good by putting all cables in such a way, air can still circulate normally, and making sure that all fans are running properly.

Next thing you can do, is speed up the fans if necessary. This can usually be done within the BIOS system, but Id wait with doing this, not to cause any more damage to the system.

Hope I helped abit at least, wish I could help more :/
