In Spanish, it’s the name of a young hen, that is too young to laid eggs or has just about started to laid them.
Using informally by a Spanish person, its meaning can be equivalent to slang meaning of that C-word which is synonym of “rooster”, and it’s impact is also as strong and vulgar as that one.

Here’s some more info about Spanish profanity.

Mounts [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

The visual mounts already have bonus speed.

It just happens to be the same bonus speed anyone gets when they are out of combat.

You could actually put travel items in the Hero panel’s wardrobe instad being gizmos you have to carry and use.

While out of combat, your character would equip them automatically, and a button would be added to manually enable or disable the currently selected.

  • Running shoes (Default). Gives different animations while running without taking the weapons out while out of combat. Makes charr run on all fours. Makes tengu run all ‘ninja-like’. Can be disabled so running out of combat uses the same animation as during combat.
  • Skates. 4 wheels are added on the foot of the character without replacing the boots. The wheels appear on different locations per race:
    • Humans. Inline skates
    • Norn. Quad skates.
    • Asura. Hover skates. Actually it’s just two of those floaty octahedrons seen on golems all the time on each feet instead of wheels.
    • Charr. Chariot skates. (one of the wheels is big like those of a small bike)
    • Silvari. Orbit wheels. They are weird like that.
  • Skateboard. Makes the character ride a skateboard.
  • Bicycle. Makes the character ride a bike.
  • Flame Djinn’s Haste. Makes the character look like ‘skating’ on flames, reusing the skateboard’s animations.
  • Storm Djinn’s Haste. Makes the character look like ‘skating’ on lighting. Reusing the skate’s animations.
  • Enchanted Broom. Makes the character ride a floating broom. Can also be used for glider customization.
  • Magic Carpet. Makes the character ride a Vabbian floating carpet. Can also be used for glider customization.
  • Drill. Makes the character look like digging underground.

About Commanders Tags

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

MithranArkanere.8957

The commander emblem need a few things to work better…

For example:

- Their accessibility must be behind skill, experience, and seniority, not just gold.
- They must be account wide.
- They must indicate levels experience in content (e.g: Lower half of the emblem being a symbol of ‘commander rank’).
- They must be unlocked separately and have separate ‘commander rank’ progress in PvE and WvW.
- They must be customizable, letting commanders pick colors and icons for tasks (e.g.: Upper half of the emblem being an icon indicating things like “Ruins”, “Roaming”, “Towers”, “Champions”, “World boss”, “Exploration”, “Map completion”, “Dailies” or “Reactors”).
- Commanders must be able to choose who can see their tag (guildies, friends, their world, …)
- Players must be able to hide commander tags if they don’t want to see them.
- Blocking a particular commander should also hide their tag even while a “hide all commander tags” option is disabled.
- It should not be possible to show them in places where they are pointless. Namely PvP and 1…5-player instances.
- Commanders must be able to have in their squad all players in a map, and appoint sub-commanders to give them tasks like “Guard the turrents” in Tequatl or “5 Go with this subcommander get that camp” in WvW.

As for zerg ruining people’s enjoyment. I can think of few solutions, and commander tags being removed is not one of them, because people just spam chat asking about where the zerg is, and make things even worse.

To prevent so many zergs, you need to go to the root of the problem, and that’s that people can zerg, and that it works too well.

You’ll need things like the 50-player limit in Watchknights (which are undesirable unless you have more than one event at the same time as they leave people out), or smaller map sizes.
Or things like longer cooldowns in rewards so people do go in cycles killing the same 4 things in the same map and instead spread. As people have different schedules, they’d naturally spread if they can’t get full rewards from the same event within a week, and instead have to go to other event. But that would also require improving rewards, and adding map icons indicating which events are in reward cooldown for you.

Low Damage != Fun

If anything, these changes are not enough.

There’s a long way to go until “pure damage” is not pretty much the only option.

Not only stats, effects and skills need to be changed. Also mechanics, creatures and all sorts of scripted content like events and other encounters, and even rewards.

There’s a long, long way to go. And you will probably won’t like all the improvements that must be done, but that won’t change that they will be improvements.

Feedback: Event loot nerfed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

To spread out activity you reduce rewards after the first time you do an event, not overall.

If you reduce rewards everywhere, people will just stick to the highest income spot.

The mistake was adding a guaranteed reward with no cap within a time frame. When they revamped dungeon rewards, they gave them caps. When they revamped champion rewards, they should have given them caps too.

Champions need flags, like nodes. So they give better rewards the first time, then you go look for another champion.

They should give each eventless champion an event, and move the bags to the success of the event, and put flags linked to those events. Do the same champion event again the same day, no more bags for you. Wan more bags? Get in a worldwide champion train squad and look for other champions in other maps or something.

This would also help greatly WvW players, as those who stay behind slowing down the enemies at the door would not be less rewarded than those who hastly rush to the champion.

Cheers for anti-zerg philosophy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

MithranArkanere.8957

What this event shows is that the harm is already done.

In WvW, there should have been an effect within events that turns anyone over 50 of each team into ‘fog-like’ entities like those ghosts in Southsun Survival, that cannot build, repair, or fight against invaders, guards or mercenaries, and can’t even be seen by the enemy.

Those exceeding the event’s cap can only gather, explore, use vistas, chests, chest key pieces and skill challenges; and fight against wild NPCs.

Your world reached the 50 player cap in one event? Go somewhere else. There’s lots of map. Lots of things to do.

And in PvE, more events should have been like the Tequatl event, the Watchwork Knights, the Triple wurm and the Marionette. Not necessarily in difficulty (more like boss HP-ness than difficulty), but giving players different tasks to do and spreading them thorough the event.

And champions should have had those ‘orange AoE’ surekill skill players must avoid introduced in clockwork chaos. And have better rewards, but only doable once a day or even a week, and have bonus rewards for fighting while avoiding those attacks altogether (not just staying away, but risking being hit by getting withing range). So those that are more skilled and can beat more champions can get more rewards than those that are just good at 4.
Instead, they reduced the number of champions, their rewards, and kept them dumb, easy to kill just with autoattacks, and working everytime, so people just zerged them even more to compensate…

Now people got so used to mindless zerging, that they are bringing down with them the rest of the players when mindless zerging does not work.

Ceremonial Plated Outfit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

Does anyone know if you can turn off the Shoulder and Helmet for this Outfit?

You can turn off helmets in ALL outfits. That’s probably a requisite so face always shows in personal story cinematics.

Since headgear is always split in most outfits into “outfit” and “hat”, this means that they could tweak things so there’s both “outfit” and “hat” when chosing them, letting people combine them, and even show the armor’s skins along the outfit or just the hat along the armor (eg, get some cross-class headgear like glasses, top hat, or the aviator hat, use it as hat instead armor skin, and quickly switch between them once unlocked). If an outfit without detached head were to be added, then then it’ll simply cover the chosen hat, much like some head armors cover shoulders (e.g.: Whisper’s Secret Cowl).

More like how GW1’s costumes worked.

Some would clip here and there, of course, but most people would not care if they can do things like combining Grenth’s hood and the witch’s outfit, or the mad king’s outfit with the phantom hood, infinitely increasing the possibilities with outfits.

But they probably won’t do that. It makes too much sense and would increase their sales. And the guys in charge of the store seem to be more interested in frustrating players or making people waste gems than making players spend their gems in things they’ll enjoy for sure, which kind of puzzles me, to be honest.

I see what you’re saying, but I’m not saying to take SAB out forever, nor am I saying to NEVER re-release these skins… I’m just saying I like having it for say only april each year… new players will get to play it in april just like the rest of us, we all had to wait 8 months too.. no reason they cant wait a while as well and then its all the more enjoyable once you can finally play it. As for the weapons I think it’s nice if they went in a cycle, released the other weapons next year, the year after maybe a set of armor.. the year after that they can start re-release… I just think that it’s better if you can’t just get everything you want right away, it just makes you enjoy it all the more once you finally get what you want rather than just having it and then be like… meh… and get bored of it after a week and move onto the next thing. To feel the need the be entitled to everything right away or to be entitled to everything gw releases as “special” permanently is the height of childishness. Some things are meant to be special/limited, holidays would lose value too if we celebrated them every day keep SAB special, keep it annual.

I’m not saying to keep it permanently either.

There’s mostly two kinds of exclusivity.
Limited and absolute.

With limited, something can be exclusive in time (exclusive for a long time, but then made available to all) or in acquisition (very hard to get, but still available to all, with luck or effort) or in price (very expensive or requiring real money).
But ultimately, each player will have a chance to get the stuff. Even if they got into a car accident and went on a coma for 5 years, when they com back, if they work hard, get good at the game or wait for the right moment, they’ll get the stuff.

With absolute, something appears just once or is only available to a few, and then it’s gone, never to appear or be made again, to the point that some people won’t even see it used by other players, ever, as if it wasn’t part of the game at all.

Looking at GW1, one example of limited exclusivity would be the festival masks, that were absolute until they re-released them after 7 years.
Anyone who got them got to enjoy them exclusively for a very long time, but after that, they became limited, and everyone gets to enjoy them.

On the other hand, you’ll have the absolute exclusive limited miniatures, that became a symbol of how bad GW1’s economy was. People who got them didn’t get them because they like them, but as a symbol of how much wealth they had farmed or powertraded and ow much they could waste on them.

So, what I’m saying is that even if it’s after 5 or 10 years, they must eventually come back.

They must have some disgruntled employee messing with the numbers in there:

  • Win 5 times daily, but play 2 times daily.
  • Interrupt 100 with an heavily unreliable skill making players ignore score and go just for that, and ruin the game for others times for 3 measly envelopes and 5AP.
  • And now, in the last update, to add insult to the injury, they changed Dragon Champion so it has 10 tiers. But each tier does nothing. So there’s no difference with the previous version except now you can only tell the actual progression if you set the view to total, and you get toast messages each freaking win instead when it’s complete. Tier completion and Custom view will show only the current tier. So if you are 3/10, it will show 75% when it’s actually 30%.

I recommend finding out who was the responsible, and taking action so they stop making changes designed to frustrate and aggravate he playerbase. And when you are at it, also find the guy who added all those bugged Malign trinkets with level 0-14 stats combinations even though they are level 80 in boss chests.

So far he only sells finishers and bank tabs as unlocks. That’s not enough.

The entire pace of the game doesn’t make sense.

This is an online game with several skills to be used and played worldwide. Not a single trigger FPS for Lan parties where lag doesn’t matter.

It doesn’t make sense to have any single character being able to kill anything under 5 seconds. That makes players favor instant activation skills and anything that can be spammed.

And look at thieves, with no recharges in their skills. Revenant was done properly: Energy + recharges. You can’t have skills with no recharges. There’s no freaking way to properly balance that.

I don’t find frustration to be fun.

It takes ages to retry, you can’t see a thing with everyone jumping at the same time, and the camera collides with literally everything on screen, so in the few seconds no one is covering your model and you can see where you are, your camera is stuck behind your feet or someone else’s feet, because it’s colliding with some minuscule rock or corner you won’t even see if it wasn’t for the camera being pushed around by it.

I’d like to do the puzzle, because I can’t. I’m not playing against the puzzle, I’m playing against its issues.

I’ve played Super Meat Boy. It was insanely hard, and it was insanely fun.
You could die countless times in a row, and it had some bugs.
But the thing is, levels restarted also insanely fast, and no bugs prevented completion of maps just the opposite, and I could stop anytime I wanted, and continue anytime I wanted.

For something that will stay for such a little time, less people enjoy it than people that are frustrated about it.
All my guildies that tried it spent more time complaining in the waiting room about the multiple issues they found than actually trying to do it.

“Gojira” is a portmanteau of “gorira” (gorilla) and “kujira” (whale).

So if you still wanted to translate the name to English even though translating names is something nobody should ever do under any circumstance, it’ll be “Goriwhale” or “Whalerilla”.

This reminds me of this too: it’s not “It’s over 9000”, but"It’s higher than 8000".

The game relies too much in the TP...

in Black Lion Trading Co

MithranArkanere.8957

I filled my HoM in GW1 without doing speed clears or having to rely on trading. All just me and my heroes.

After an entire year of playingGW2, I haven’t got a stack of T6 materials big enough to do anything at all. And those I got were from the clover recipe trying to get 77 clovers, as it took me AGES to get 77 clovers, as I never got them from the recipe, and the only rares I ever got were from world bosses and guild missions, and from those I rarely got any ecto salvaged at all.
Now they are waiting in my bank, as I don’t think I’ll get enough materials for a legendary in less than 10 years.

There’s a small group of people that have been using and abusing all money making schemes since the start. You know them guys who were the first ones with a commander badge, then all covered in CoF armor from their CoF runs.
They take ages to fix those, and instead making sure there’s no more fast money making schemes, they add expensive stuff so those that earn more sink their gold, leaving out anyone who doesn’t play that way.

Then others who want to also have fun with them shinnies feel like the only way to get anything done before GW2 closes or goes automated like GW1 is by following those money making schemes too.
And then they will complain when they get fixed because ANet has removed “the only way to make moneys”.

And those who hurried to exploit the schemes keep high amount of gold as they can buy more, craft more and afford to sell high and keep their money high.

Just look at the prices in the toxic spore vendor, or the prices of the stuff in halloween.
They are clearly designed with high-income players with single characters in mind.

Have several characters or play roaming around and perform a variety of tasks instead focusing in making coin in the single fastest task, and you are screwed.

THAT, not the TP, is what they should fix. The TP just reflects the issue, it’s not creating it.

Why Balance Problems Won't End

in PvP

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

Balancing GW2 as it is is like playing a pagoda game with a post for each factor in the game, or a rubik cube with one side for each factor.

You shuffle stuff around hoping to make what’s too strong weaker and what’s to weak and underused stronger, and you end up making other stuff stronger or weaker as a side-effect. So no matter what changes they make to skills, it doesn’t pass much time until people find the new gimmicky broken combinations and go with those until they get fixed.

That’s why some games have systems that balance on the fly what’s happening instead having to depend on changing numbers on individual parts, and hoping the sum ends up balanced somehow.

And that’s why one of the things GW2 needs to make balancing easier is an extra ‘layer’ of control measures that balance on the fly. Too many CC on too little time by too many people on a single character, they get a ‘juggle’ breaker like in properly balanced fighting games to prevent and endless chain of hits with no possibility of saving. Too many conditions on you? You get a cap on how much damage they give you per second (like the degen/regen pips in GW1).

Once such measures are in place, making builds is no longer about finding what can dish the most of some things in as little time as possible, maybe also keeping some survivability in the form of ways to get out of a pinch, and it becomes more about efficiency. Your teams brings way too much of a single mechanic, you’ll repeatedly hit the autobalancing measures, you’ll be wasting skills. A smart build will waste no slot with superfluous redundancies.

This means they can afford to reduce the HP of these mobs and tune them in more ways, whereas before, their main answer to making PvE more challenging is:

GIVE THEM MORE HEALTH

Hope that helps you see this topic from a new perspective.

This. Currently, in dungeons there’s spots with one too many elites. A couple of elites along a champion and a bunch of veterans and normal ones is fine. 10 elites spamming their two one-hit-kill skills is not.

By giving them downed state, they can decrease their stupid stats to something reasonable, and you can’t just stack and spam skills like now, as when you are centered on a target another enemy may use a revive skill and bring back the elite you just downed.
This forces the need to dynamically switch targets and adapt to the situation, and the more of that we get, the more engaging combat is, and the harder it is for people that just mindlessly use skills on recharge.

Double Whammy: Devs Trolling?

I have noticed this trend of doing the opposite of what people like:

- People like the Beyond content in GW1: Fixed, good rewards, varied and fun enemies, permanent so you can do it at your own pace. You can have an accident or personal problems, and it won’t matter, you can come back when you can, and do it at your own pace.
What does ANet do for GW2? Living story, which is the opposite. Too random or too bad rewards, repetitive enemies with gimmicky behaviors, and with an expiration date, so you either do it now, or never. Let’s make sure you can’t feel relaxed and have fun.

- People like the hat maker and the costume tailor and costume unlocks? What does ANet do?
Single items. The more you get, the more storage you need. You have to pay every time you want the item. If you lose them for whatever reason, you have to buy them again, if they never come back to the store, you lost them forever. If you make new character and want them to use those items too, you’ll have to juggle them between characters in the bank, unless you bought several in advance.

- They get really positive feedback from Mission replays and story books.
You can’t replay personal storyline, even without rewards. And they do not try to make anything like the books again.

- Then, they take a good step here and there, like the F&F dungeon
And they go back to the stuff people hate.

Are they testing stuff to see what hoops can they make us go through? Because when they do those things I feel like a Guinea pig.

If you find a good recipe, why not using it?

Out of combat healing?

Disengaging is part of combat. It’s called “strategic retreat”.

Anything that is “strategic” is good, as opposed to the rampant mindless skill-less spammity spam that is way too abundant these days.

If they run away they may come back at full health. Which is a reason to leave the point. Will you leave and let them come back fully healed, or will you chase and finish them off, risking losing the point?

That kind of decision is always something better to have than “should I spam button 2, or button 3?”.

I managed to do 3 by avoiding enemies at all costs and focusing just in the plunderers, putting lots and lots of burning and bleeding on them so they die before they come back.

In Tier 4, veterans see me from the central pile of loot at follow me all the way to the Rapairs NPC, so I can’t avoid them. Kiting them is not possible, because Strikers have direct attacks you can’t avoid by strafing, only evading, but they use them continuously.

I would until the fix this. IF they fix this.

Elementalist color-changing armor

MithranArkanere.8957

I could see a Prismatic dye that changes with skill or special ability usage:
- Warrior: Starts black and gets brighter like hot metal as adrenaline builds up.
- Guardian: Starts bright white. When each of the virtues is recharging, it loses parts of the basic colors corresponding to a virtue. Justice would be red, courage blue and resolve green. Use justice and courage, but not resolve, and the dye looks green. Use them all, and the dye looks pitch black.
- Ranger: Linked to the health and type of your pet. Healthier pet means brighter colors. Equip a pink ma, and you get pink. Equip a pig and you get lighter pink. Your pig is knocked out, you get dark pink. Your moa gets knocked out, you get darker pink.
- Thief: Linked to steal. Color changes depending on what you’ve stolen.
- Engineer: Liked tothe toolbelt.
- Elementalist: Linked to the attunements. Fire is orange, water is blue, air is lilac and earth is brown.
- Necromancer: Linked to the Death’s Shroud health bar. A darker armor means less shroud left.
- Mesmer: Linked to the number of illusions and recharging skills.

[Suggestion] Participation, outnumbered, pips

in WvW

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

If one have been following the community lately, these are 3 of the issues that have been concerning players

  • The participation system is allowing players to earn rewards while not playing as much as other players earning the same rewards.
  • Outnumbered is being exploited and causing problems.
  • Skirmish reward track feels too slow and unrewarding for less veteran players.

I think that the following series of changes could work to solve or ease many of these issues well enough:

  • Change the participation system to work more progressively and reward more gaining score for your world.
    • Tiers are now numbered 0 to 5.
    • Now each tier adds the same number of pips per tick as its own number indicates. So at tier 1 you earn +1 pip per tick, at tier 4 you earn 4 pips per tick.
    • Tiers would now slowly decay to the previous one over time based on a decay rate that increases over time. The higher the decay rate, the faster your participation decays.
      • The decay rate would be shown in the participation panel.
      • Each point of war score earned for your world by any action in which you participate reduces the decay rate. WXP does not count for this.
      • Being at a higher participation tier would increas the decay speed. So staying at higher tiers requires more aggressive and active gameplay, maintaining and defending higher scoring locations, thus earning more war score.
      • Being inside contested objectives, and being in combat would slow down the decay. But being out of combat, and being outside objectives would speed it up.
      • Being tagged to share participation by a squad would increase participation and decrease decay whenever anyone in the squad gains participation, but it won’t give you more than the highest player in the squad.
    • Participation would not be lost or decrease when switching characters.
    • Destroying or disabling fully built enemy siege would now count towards participation on defense events. Allowing someone defending a tower to gain participation even if the enemy runs away before damaging doors or walls.
  • Change how outnumbered gives extra pips:
    • Bonus pips from Outnumbered are no longer directly granted by each tick while having the Outnumbered effect itself, and instead come from a separate effect that is received while under Outnumbered as you earn warscore for your world:
    • This effect would stack over time while Outnumbered, giving just +1 pip per stack up to 5, and increasing as you do things that give warscore to your world.
    • The more warscore you get for your world, the faster the stacks get to 5. For example, you could earn 1 stack for every 2 points of warscore you earn. So you could go get 5 sentries or shrines, defeat 5 enemy players while under a stack of bloodlust, or take over a Tier 3 tower.
    • So if you just jump between maps all the time hoping to get your tick to happen in an outnumbered map, you won’t ever get any bonuses at all.
    • The stacks would go down one at a time over time like the stacks of the Hammer Corruption effect in Cliffside fractal. Whenever do something that earns warscore, all the stacks refresh for a duration based on the warscore earned. For example, 2 minutes for point of warscore up to a max of 30min. The duration from different objectives won’t stack, but if the duration of what you last did is shorter than what you already had, it won’t be decreased.
    • So as long as you stay outnumbered and giving score to your world, you keep all the stacks. And if you only go around taking shrines and sentries, you’ll only get 4 mins extension every time, which may not be enough to keep them. But defend a Tower, and your stacks get 8 mins of duration, enough to get you going while defending the tower.
    • When your map is no longer Outnumbered, the stacks are not lost instantly at the same time as the Outnumbered effect is lost. Instead, they still go down slowly one at a time naturally, so you can still benefit from your efforts until they are all lost. This way if a squad comes and leaves you don’t lose it all instantly.

Gliding Bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

Currently we are tracking a bug on live that allows players who do not have the Gliding Mastery to glide while in Guild Halls. Naturally, that’s not an intended feature of the game, and a fix that will correct it will go live with our next update. Until then we hope that everyone who does not currently have gliding enjoys the experience for the time being.

So, it’s a classic ‘exploit’, you are of course taking action against those using it, like you do whenever people use such ‘exploits’?

Obviously you’re not, so why?

Why the inconsistency? Just when is ‘unintended play’ declared an ‘exploit’ and when not?

An exploit isn’t an exploit if it isn’t exploitable. That is, if you can’t get from it any benefit that can show in the records of your account. Items you gain, currencies you obtain, achievements unlocked, etc.

It doesn’t even have to be a bug to be an exploit. It can be an oversight like a wrong cost set in a vendor or a missing collision on a map that allows skipping parts of it and reaching the rewards faster.

Flying around in the guild hall provides nothing that can get stored in the account. There isn’t even something like an achievement for spending time gliding. There aren’t any jumping puzzles or rewards of any kind in there. No achievements or unique vendors you get by using gliding.

This is also why most ‘map breaking’ isn’t considered cheating. Since most of the time there isn’t anything of any value to be obtained out of bounds.

dishonor comeback

We need dishonor for many other things.

For example, there’s griefers in PvP hotjoin that work together to troll players. They do things like when a side is about to win, they stop fighting in one side and let the other win.
Or are taking turns letting each other win in an standard arena that is not a custom arena, and whenever anyone enters, they claim to be ‘dueling’ and demand anyone else to leave, and whoever tries to play the intended way in the map gets harassed by them, until they force them to leave, and just go back telling each other win in turns.

This is not a bug. This is a bad behavior that should be addressed.

Now that the game has re-targetting, there’s no excuse.

When an enemy goes into stealth, tracking skills should stop tracking. If you don’t want them to go to waste, you should retarget or manually aim the skill. Thanks to retargeting, this is now possible.

That way you could put it there and forget about it affecting the trait lines.

Sore losers will be sore losers

Kiel won because 10% waypoint discount mezmerized you. Pathetic.

That’s too much of an assumption.

Kiel won because there was mainly three groups:

- Those voting Kiel because they like her or anything she would provide.
- Those voting Evon because they like him or anything he would provide.
- Thse voting Kiel because they don’t what Evon to win for what he represents, namely the bad stuff they don’t like in the gem store, such as RNG boxes or skins sold as perishable items instead as unlocks.

Why I don’t mention “People voting Evon because they don’t like Kiel”? Because those are negligible. Kiel is too bland to get enough haters.

But by making the other choice a character related to the Store, they made that side lose. And that showed how there’s many room for improvement in the store, and how those annoying Nexon cahs milking tactics are not liked by lots of players and how they want Pay Once brought back from the GW1 days.

Yeah, waypoints were one of the causes, but just one of many. Too many.

FPS meter and ping

The FPS meter is currently in the bottom right corner of the options panel.

There is no way to check ping other than directly checking the application’s latency. For example, by going to the system’s resource monitor and check the Latency of the gw2.exe application.

I could use the good ol’ ping led brought back from GW1.

  • Color indicates latency: 0…250 green, 251…500 yellow, >500 red.
  • Hovering over it shows tooltip panel with:
    • FPS
    • Latency
    • Server-side IP (for troubleshooting purposes)

Additionally, rick clicking on it should show a context menu with the following options:

  • Show FPS – Numeric FPS appears next to the led.
  • Show latency – Numeric latency appears next to the led.
  • Show signal strength – Available on wireless connection, an additional 5-bar icon shows wireless signal strength.
  • Show battery – Available on batter-powered systems like laptops when running on battery power, and additional battery icon indicating stages of battery charge.

Quick note on Ep4 bundled updates

[…]
This release will include the promised fix to AB multi-looting. The fix is simple: you can loot each of the great and grand chests once each time you complete the meta, once per map cycle.
[…]

My only question is: what happens if you disconnect and can’t go back to your map?

Will you be able to go to the entrance of the basement in the other instance, talk with a tarnished Exalted there and still get in to open the chests you earned?

Because we could really use that for some maps that spawn chests as you participate since these maps won’t save your spot and you often can’t go back after disconnecting.

[…]
This release will also include a new, challenging group-farming spot for leather.
[…]

Aw…

I was hoping for cloth and leather nodes to be added to enemy camps like an inquest lab or a flame legion settlement so you could cut their leather racks and clotheslines with a harvesting tool like in WvW.

I don’t like missing out things because of things I have absolutely no control over.

Only once, ONCE, I got to the platforms without getting a loading screen and getting stomped while loading, just to lose because just one platform ignored everyone yelling them “attack from behind”, while they just autoattacked from the front. They didn’t get the enemy below 90%!! People reported them for griefing!

At least let me get to that platform so I can finish it if they can’t, for Grenth’s sake.

And why isn’t there some sort of immunity while people are loading? Or a pre-platform in which players are immune and while they load and then jump to another platform? And why am I getting that screen for 10 seconds every time I use an energy field when I made sure to walk around the other lanes to ‘preload’ as many characters and terrain as possible, set video settings to the minimum so it would not load character customizations, and have more than enough ram and video memory?

I don’t see how that kind of frustration can be fun to anyone. This is not a challenge to overcome. This is waiting until the planets align.

Game Updates: Wardrobe, Transmutation, Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

Item names

There should be two names for items with unique skins or transmuted with unique skins.

A big one, and a small one under it, like a subtitle.

The big one would appear at the top of the description, and it would be the one used for chat links.
The small subtitle would appear only in the item’s description.

The subtitle would have always a standardized text (rarity, stats, original skin, item type, upgrades).

For example, a just crafted Juggernaut would look like this:
The Juggernaut
Legendary Variable The Juggenaut of Sanctuary
“Variable” would be replaced with the stats as they are changed.

Transmute the Juggernaut skin to a rare verdant hammer with berserker stats and give it Force and Accuracy sigils, and the item’s name and subtitle would read:

The Juggernaut
Rare Berserker Verdant Hammer of Force and Accuracy

This would work even with trinkets.
Prayer to Otter
Ascended Cleric Pendant of the Cleric (5 Agony Resistance)

Subtitles are the way to go for item names!

Head outfits
There should be a head slot for outfits, not just body.
Any town clothes skin, festival hats and cross-type armor piece should be added to its list.

That way people can do things like switching between ANet’s cap and glasses as many times as they want without quickly spending all of their transmutation charges in seconds.

Custom outfits
There should be custom outfit slots, in the same row as the current outfit slot.

Players would be able to pick a custom outfit slot and set a combination of gear in there by paying transmutation charges.

Custom outfit slots would be account wide for characters of the same armor class.
Any character of the account with that armor class would be able to equip that custom outfit, as long as it doesn’t have a piece they can’t equip, like cultural armor.

Picking a custom outfit would not change your gear’s appearance, but cover it, so players would be able to set custom outfits even while naked.

Players would start with 2 custom outfit slot per armor class, get another one when a character of that armor class completes the personal story, and more would be available for purchase in the gem store.

Who decides what breaks immersion ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

For me there’s only two things that break ‘immersion’:

  • People making up rules on their own, and trying to force those rules on others. Like those who insist you have to fail some event, or those who bother other players with their made up GvG instead waiting for proper GvG or requesting something like making obsidian sanctum cross-world like edge of the mists and adding there NPCs you can talk with to pick teams like the spies in AB in GW1, so you can freely switch sides for ‘gvgs’ and duels.
  • People who make up stuff that makes no sense in the setting or the game, or forcefully trying to shove alien lore into the game, like going around saying they are some other made up race or a race from other game, or saying they are part of an enemy faction like bandits or inquest (unless they are infiltrated, like when whispers do that), saying they killed Queen Jennah or some other NPC that was never defeated by a player in lore, or some nonsense like that.

But I guess it’s more like being annoyed by people trying to shove stuff on my face rather than ‘immersion’.

Tier 4 is too hard for my guild group...

They messed up the scaling.

Solo I can kill a plunderer in 3-4 hits.

In a party, it takes ages.

But solo I’ll be overwhelmed by the veterans that keep popping in the last 30 seconds.

It’s really annoying reading all these “go complain elsewhere” after you see the videos of those who do it, and they are not doing it. They are doing all the can to get it completed without actually doing it.

They exploit every single thing. From interrupting grenadiers so they get stuck to massive berserker builds that should NOT be required for anything.

Then doing it solo seems to be easier, with the right build.

This is one of the reasons there should not be temporary content.

Permanent content can be fixed when its unreasonable.

With temporary, we get a wave of exploiters that get it done in the first days, and then players that can’t do it once fixed unless they get some special tricks that they may not have ready since they preferred other builds, or because they don’t have resources to quickly get that build.

You fix this event chain, they’ll find another.

I would have preferred if all drops in events were put on hold until the end of the event, and calculated based on whatever is required for participation in the event, not enemies defeated.
Then give them to players at the end regardless of success in WvW, and only upon success in PvE (or maybe with a severe MF penalty on failure) in a small chest only you can see that appears on your location.

That way in WvW those that rush to the lord for drops are not rewarded more than those that stay behind guarding he door, and those that try to forcefully produce more enemies and restart event sooner in PvE at the expense of other player’s fun will well.. waste their time trying to do that, like someone would waste their time trying to steal nodes from other players.

This is still happening.

Even with a ping well under 100ms, Santum Spring races are nothing but an exercise of frustration lately. Rather than ’who’s faster’ is about who can jump more times without being screwed by the skills.

If these jumps can’t be fixed in some way, those preset lightning jumps to Lightning Tethers should at least be replaced by something else until it can be fixed. For example, direct teleports using Lightning Flash’s animation and visuals to still fit the theme, with a longer casting so it takes the same time and it can still be interrupted.
