It’s the world we live in I’m afraid. It’s the nature of MMO’s. I will ask though, since there’s only 8 professions, why have more than one of the same?

My main is a power Necro which i never intend to change since i obtained the Legendary Frostfang, but i wanted to try a condi Necro as well. TBH, power is way more fun.

Easy enough to level up to 80 – takes a couple of weeks.

My guild of 2 active players aren’t doing any guild missions, nor fractals… and experience has taught me that PUGs are not great. Oh well…

Soon we’ll have Ascended armour and we’ll probably require laurels to buy the recipes (for some reason). I think A-net just wants it to take as long as possible to acquire this stuff – people with alts be kitten ed.

Warrior DPS > stacks of vulnerability/might anyway… just bring another GS warrior and it’s curtains.

Sure other classes can be useful, but people don’t care about useful… people want the dungeon finished ASAP.

Unshakeable and Defiant are stupid mechanics.

Remove these and increase the difficulty to compensate – this doesn’t mean add an extra 500,000 hit points.

Any chance we could implement some extra ways to earn laurels? Maybe some skill based tasks, or doing additional daily activities – say you complete 10 activities you get 2 laurels?

I have 9 toons to gear out – this is going to take me until we have the first home base on planet Mars.

I currently see a few problems with our class:

  • We have dozens of useless traits that are simply underpowered or have rubbish effects
  • We have no role in PVE (or the role they picked for us, does not combine with the PVE game they’ve designed, for this PVE must change)
  • We lack proper defense
  • We lack offense to be as good at DPS as other classes (a problem with the PVE game itself, and with our actual damage output)
  • We need more viable builds (not just Dhuumfire).

To fix the necromancer, I would personally get rid of the idea of focusing on an attrition class. There’s no point in having an attrition class, if PVE discourages it. So either change PVE to make attrition on-par with direct DPS, or change the focus of our class. Also, change Defiant/Unshakeable. Control is kind of our thing, so make it work against all champions.

The biggest elephant in the room currently is simply the lack of depth in the combat. There’s a lot of noise and fancy lights, but not a well thought structure that keeps it all together. It feels like they tossed a lot of things at the wall, just to see what would stick… and with the necro they didn’t throw very far. We have a lot of game elements, such as toughness, vitality and healing. But the defensive attributes aren’t as important as the offensive ones. This has made the game extremely in favor of DPS. In an unbalanced game with lots of insta-kills and defense that scales poorly, the best defense becomes killing things as quickly as possible. And that is not what attrition is about (quite the opposite). They’ve created a situation in which our class mechanic has no place.

The worst part of it all, is that they keep balancing the necro for pvp, and ruining our effectiveness in wvw and PVE in the process. That kills us. You can’t keep trying to keep these radically different parts of the game in line. This was already obvious in GW1 with the splitting of skills. Why did we not learn that lesson?

How disinterested did the developers look when testing this skill in the video… it was like it was a chore.. it healed for bugger all.

When the Guardian section was playing they were hooting and cheering and it healed for a gagillion health points.

This speaks volumes to me.

Still no comment from anyone at A-net.

The new heal is definitely geared toward PvE and Dagger/Melee use. Like all skills, it’s meant to be used when the situation dictates – A melee fight with burst health loss. If you know you have this type of boss, you swap to this heal, pop it while the boss is doing to most damage to the entire party to keep you all up and take him down.

No profession will ever be without it’s flaws. A world of immortal gods would be without challenge.

That would be all well and good if this was a utility skill, not a heal skill.

This needs to be buffed or changed to a utility.

You mean like when they said Necros were starting to feel like blood magic was in a good place?

Starting to feel, key words. People have taken this to mean “Blood Magic is now perfectly balanced”, which it isn’t. They said that they felt Blood Magic – an entire tree – was getting better. Which is true, blood magic as it is now is massively better than it was at launch, in every single way.

Are siphons still bad? Yes. Did they ever state otherwise? No.
Does Blood Magic still need work? Yes. Did they ever state otherwise? No.

After the patch i really didn’t notice any discernible difference in the siphons – maybe because i don’t run minion-mancer. If i recall from your podcasts you run minion-mancer?

Any way, no point arguing on this – the traits are rubbish and need to be fixed – i don’t hold out any hope though. I’m on my warrior these days… nice to just dominate people for once and have some of the best escapes and mitigation in the game if things don’t go according to plan.

They created this problem – no one asked for burning damage. Then came the hundreds of whingers in the PvP forum….

They refuse to address dhummfire because that would mean admitting that it was an error.

They need to do something about deathshroud vanishing instantly under focus fire.

Even with 30 in SR the minute i have a few ppl on me it just drops so quickly, where as blocks, invulnerability and evades don’t have the same problem.

My sword/shield warrior’s number 5 skill just blocks everything – it’s kittening awesome.

I couldn’t wait for the dec 10th patch till I saw the live stream,now im starting to look in to other MMO’s to play like WildStar.This Dev team has failed the game.

Except I know Wildstar isn’t going to be worth my time, because they are dead-set on re-skinning WoW, which I absolutely hated.

I hated WoW as well – thought i was the only one lol.

I’ll be looking at Everquest Next though – i loved EQ2.

No more 24/7 WvW

Hi guys,

The 24/7 concept of WvW has ever been a big design failure. There will never be any balance in WvW, as long as servers are able to dominate their bracket during the nighttime, while they constantly loose during daytime.
You crush an opponent during the daytime and win every zerg-fight, build up your T3 Towers and Keeps, spending tons of gold on the upgrades. And then you come back the next day, and everything is gone, because there is always this one server, that has zergs of 60 people on every map, whereas your server hasn’t 60 people on all maps together, because there are no no-livers on your server that can play all night long. The nightshift server only wins the bracket because there is no one from your server there, to fight against during nighttime. (yes, I’m looking at you, Vizunah Square)
I don’t know what anet’s definition of balance is, but this system is far from being balanced. And it has been for over a year. Enough time to really look into the problems of their content, which they obviously didn’t.

That’s all I’m saying.

WOW! Look at all this Anti-Stealth you have going on AND THESE ARE JUST THE AUTO-ATTACKS!

The Necro Axe auto attack doesn’t hit stealthed players. Even if it did, the damage from it is pathetic (another topic for another forum).

Regardless, i don’t have a problem with thieves – I main Necro/Warrior/Ranger.

Mesmers on the other hand… make my brain stop working and i get all nervous trying to pinpoint which one he is (even if it’s obvious because of appearance/movement). It’s not the stealth i hate, it’s the clones.. so many clones

They have stated a few times that the biggest problem with Necros are that we have, well really big problems. Our problems aren’t simple number fixes like other classes. What does that mean? It takes 10x more resources for them to fix one of our issues, than it does to fix an issue for someone else, because instead of just, say, changing a small mechanic to help fix the issue (like they did for Ranger spirits), that doesn’t work for us (Dhuumfire). They need to completely axe the problem-causing things, then completely make a brand new mechanic to replace it. That involves coding, testing, idea iteration, blah blah blah. It all translates to a lot of time and other resources, which for us translates to: It’s going to take a while.

You are absolutely right. Some really big changes would be needed to actually fix the necro. However, I don’t think all fixes to the necro would require a lot of time and resources. Would it really be so much work to add a Cleave to the axe for necros? Or to bring back our DS’ ability to take spike damage? Or to simply get rid of Reanimator?

There are some huge problems with the necro in PVE, and any nerf that is applied to our class specifically with PVP in mind, has a disastrous effect on the PVE side of our class. We’re already in a bad spot, so further nerfs, even if they are only intended for PVP, destroy our PVE effectiveness even further.

That is why I think a lot of necro players roll their eyes at these number changes. Almost every balance patch seems to be done with only pvp in mind. Does PVE not matter to the devs? Are they not aware that dungeon parties are specifically stating that they don’t want any necros in their party? This isn’t just happening because these parties are made by jerks. There are good reasons to discriminate against necromancers in PVE.

Devs don’t care about PvE or WvW class balance.

All the attention is on the PvP forum where people just constantly whine and post nerf xxx threads instead of learning how to counter something…

Skills not firing at all in WvW

Just experienced this tonight;

My weapon skills, heal and other skills stopped working completely.

I could still chat and weapon swap, access my inventory items etc..

After exiting WvW they now work again.

Axe: Reworking It

except warrior rifle is one of the highest ranged dps in the game.

LoL, never. Longbows does more DPS then rifle. It has 1 easy to dogde skill with high dmg per hit, but aweful dps.
Best DPS range weapon is Ele staff fire, well traited more dps then a warrior melee. After this, engineer with granades think, or scepter on guard if u´re fighting vs targets with a big hitbox (scepter 2 can hit 16 times on them).

Im talking about PvE, where DPS rly matters.

you have no idea what you’re talking about. please go back to warrior forums as it is obviously your main.

Nope, you´re the one with no idea talking about. Rifle is bad dps, and a bad PvP weapon.
Staff ele, engineer ranger and guards do definitly more dps then a rifle warrior. And LB is at the moment the better range weapon in terms of raw dps.
Oh, and my main is not warr, it´s guard.
The diffrent is, i don´t tell lies. If something is wrong, it is wrong, even it is not my opinion.
And Necromancer Axe + DS1 dps is >warrior with rifle, by far. Only 600 range ok, but more dps.

I got hit for 16K by a warrior’s Eviscerate yesterday… stop complaining about Necro Axe DPS when it’s much less than pretty much any other class.

Axe+DS1 is the only reliable DPS from this weapon… Axe 1 sucks, Axe 2 never lands and Axe 3 does minimal damage – it’s DS or bust, but i’m sure you’d have it all removed if you could.

Worst trait – Reanimator for the Necro.

A sick rat spawns after you kill someone and then coughs until it dies at your feet… then your character proceeds to mourn the loss off said rat.

It would be hilarious if it wasn’t a compulsory minor trait.

I agree that there are some really lame skills/mechanics right now, such as signet of spite and instant fear, which is what allows a necro to easily put all those conditions up. Again, I’m not defending any specific builds/skills. I’m just saying that in general, conditions are a well-designed mechanic. The current problems with conditions came from specific buffs that weren’t thought out well, and they can be fixed with specific nerfs and fixes.

As my OP outlines, I’m mainly against the idea that condition builds are inherently overpowered because you only need “1 stat,” which is why I asked for settler’s builds. Or that they lower the skill floor/cap because they feel “spammy,” when in reality they add complexity to the game (and there’s no difference between spamming conditions and spamming direct damage, either).

Signet of Spite and Doom have been in this game since launch and no one ever complained about them prior to the Dumbfire patch.

Necro was considered one of the lower tier classes in WvW/PvP prior to this patch – what changed?

Also realise, not every Necro is a condition Necro – i play a power Necro and Doom remains one of my only defensive mechanics besides going into DS and trying to facetank the DPS.

There have been class and game breaking bugs in the game since Beta and they have still not been fixed. It took the developers months and months to fix Necro downed state health – which was a massive issue.

Given the time it takes to resolve said issues, I would not expect action quickly.

Those were presumably difficult bugs to fix. They can just straight up remove perplexity until they’ve had time to look at the runes, something you can’t do with an entire class.

I don’t think anyone really believes this class is broken – most would agree that it’s fairly decent in all game types, has a bit of build variety and is a blast to play – after all this is why people play it.

There are a few core issues that need to be addressed – they have all been discussed multiple times in multiple threads.

Then we have the PvP forumers whining about condition Necros, so the threat of potential nerfs looms over our heads.

I think most people are largely happy with the class.

This is infuriating whenever I want to stomp! Foot in the Grave should be useful not useless!

Sure, there is a Deathshroud stomp trick but it hardly works.

If you have the timing down it doesn’t “hardly” work, it always does. Its just like dodge-jump, it has a precise, somewhat weird timing depending on your setup, but it will always work once you know the timing.

Maybe if you live in USA. Try doing it with all the latency in Australia… it definitely doesn’t work here.

IMO the only thing axe needs is +300 range added to the Axe Traiting trait (ie: 900 range when traited).

the scaling on the auto is maybe a little low but IMO the rest is fine, the biggest issue with axe is that it’s not sufficiently differentiated from dagger M/H. The traited range buff addresses that.

Boom! Extra range would be super sweet!!!

Imagine a quality ranged power weapon like everyone else gets.

The range atm is pretty kitten poor.

Axe 1 needs to be buffed
Axe 2 is fine, but you never land a full chain in WvW – not sure if they can speed up the channel or something so it’s like Unload from the thief
Axe 3 is good – pathetic damage, but that’s not the point of it

Forget changing everything too drastically – it’s never going to happen.

If it takes A-net months to fix ridiculous bugs, they are not going to have time to re-design a weapon skill set.

I’m not against making more viable builds for PVP or PVE, but the point of making a variety of viable builds is to have the already viable builds become NOT viable.
