It’s to make it fair for others plus it’s not always fun being the god and the strongest in the area. It’s actually pretty interesting to know that you are just one single person. no matter how powerful you are, you will always die from something small if you’re reckless. Pretty much reminds me on how real life works.

and yet sandly you cant really die in ares where the mobds are lvl 7 or so and lower, unless you deliberatly let them beat on you for like what? 10 minutes+ while doing absolutetly nothing currently, really really wish the scaling were more harsh in the lowest area’s

While true, the scaling down just keeps it realistic (Although it’s a fantasy game, things are not meant to be realistic but still). That’s just in my opinion though so I am not sure how you guys view it

Advertisement is a hit or miss kind of thing. If we’re talking television, then the best timeslots for a commercial would be weekly primetime (9pm-12pm) and Saturday morning/afternoons. Unfortunately these are also the most expensive slots. Not to mention that many people in the target demographic have switched to free/paid streaming services for their television.

Buying a page in a gaming mag is cost effective in comparison, although that is also a dieing media.

Then we have website advertisements. These are by far the most effective for game advertisements as they can be shown on specific websites where gamers are sure to gather. MMOC usually runs a GW2 ad, for example.

So I think ANet is handling advertisement quite well. They are getting their name out there while not wasting money. Free advertising such as TIME’s game of the year column is a great bonus.

Ahhh I see. Thanks for your epic input I heard about GW2 winning Time’s Goty (Which is awesome). I just hope that GW2 will place their awards in their DVD covers (Kind of makes it interesting to keep plus you get to show off to your friends)

Hey guys, I am still new to the lore of Guild Wars 2 so I would just like to ask if there are any other continents in Tyria. Knowing that Tyria is part of Elona (Which makes 1 huge continent) and also another continent called Cantha. Are there any other continents present in the world of Tyria?

P.S. I read in a lore that humans came from another planet, any idea what’s the name of the planet?

Thanks

Do you think GW2 got "action combat" right?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cowrex.9564

Cowrex.9564

I believe that the combat is done in a manner that it feels comfortable to the players, plus the learning curve in the combat is so easy. Additionally, the combat in GW2 is a hybrid, like what people posted above and while it may seem simple in concept, the execution is far better. The real-time combat and dodging makes it hard to see the basic concept of just pressing buttons and moving and whatnot In other words, combat in GW2=Great

Well… I think decent goes to 30 to 40 and 40 to 50 as amazing and 50-60 as legendary. Also, having 60 and above is considered godlike, if possible.

Geuss i’m an godlike most times then xD rarely drops below 60 for me :P and if it does it usually only like 55 or something as lowest xD

that aside yeah 30+ should definatly playable, keep in mind that if you go try tweak your setting to get 30 while standing still with likely little to not action around you it could very well drop a to 15-20 wioth action and if you go large wvw battles maybe even down to 5 making it virtually a slideshow. SO i would recommand if you stad still try if you can get at least a 40-50 there if you like big wvw battles and such maybe try get 60 when you are not near action

Haha. Nice one.

Anyways, my FPS drops alot especially when I tweak the Reflections and Shaders.

thanks for the detailed answer. it sounds like the same ol’, really. one thing upsetting for me is the grinding it takes to get these ‘bragging’ rights in gw2. At least in other mmo’s, this grinding is in a large raid, and the ‘bragging right’ is more than a simple aesthetic appeal.

i agree with you in that it’s a fantastic game. the combat is polished, graphics beautiful, and overall a very engaging gameplay. it’s just too bad the way they set up the content kind of backfired on them in that most of these open world areas provide hardly any end game experience, though they are, i’m sure, excuciatingly time-consuming to create.

The way that you present back-handed compliments here, I’m pretty convinced your a mole of some kind. Like Blizzard is paying you to come in here and say,“Ya, it’s great, but don’t you want more?” and disguise it as an actual player with a concern.

Skyrim….

Buggiest PoS I’ve ever played and it got GOTY.

GOTY award is usually given to the worst games.

Skyrim was buggy because of the immense amount of stuff going on behind the scenes.
Including quests that still played out, remembering important characters who you killed, random dragon scripting, and of course, ALL. DAT. LOOTZ.

GW2’s complexity is childs play when held up against Skyrim’s complexity.

I have found GW2 pretty light on bugs, especially for a newly released MMO. WoW had more back when I played it. W:AR was just terrible.

Step into the class subsection of the forums, and you’ll see that the bugs are not obvious, in your face bugs, (apart from the culling issue in WvW) but there are a lot to do with class skills, effects, incorrect timers on util skills and trait skills (look up the video on the “pets run xx% faster” patch test – and you’ll see what i mean)

That is one awesome way to put it. Here’s a cookie

Population wise, there are probably all centered in WvW or Fractals. You will rarely see them on the maps. But i have known a few players on my friends list that have already quit and one a real life friend even said he is willing to let go of his account if anyone wants to buy it. And I haven’t seen him since. He said he has moved on to other games and work. Yes, this game is still alive at the moment.

So, you want to meet players, just hang out at Lion’s Arch, that is where most players hang out now.

I won’t go to Cursed Shore unless I have a reason to, and so far, I only went there for the JP and nothing else. No complains about it though, just not worth the time spend there and the Karka’s are not easy to kill. Even if some of the players here says they can do it blindfolded.

Hmm, thanks. Btw, in regards to fractals, what are the rewards in it?

Just to share my thoughts in this

  • The PvE in this game is top-notch, far better than any MMO I have ever played anyways. In my opinion, playing alone or with friends or with a guild in this game is fun (Although it would be boring after playing alone for a really long time). I don’t really know why but this game gives joy to me whenever I play it, regardless of with who or where. The End-Game is the game itself, from level 1 to 80, not after 80. I don’t really mind how the end-game works here because it’s still fun to play even if I reached 80. Reasons why are because of fractals, dungeons, pvp, a guild, friends and more.
  • In regards to the PvP. The SPvP is fair when it comes to players fighting other players mainly because stats and gear are just the same (Only difference are the looks). On the other hand, the WvW is humongous, which is great despite being a zerg fest (tbh, I find zerg fests fun and exhilirating but i would also like to have alot of tactical planning).

In conclusion, the end-game content is pretty much fun here.

Yes.

People are upset about a set of gear and a dungeon that both are completely optional. Dunno why.

Thanks for the reply After reading about the Lost Shores update, especially the Ascended Gear, I don’t really see what’s the big deal… It’s fine to get new types of gear anyways. Plus the Kar’ka guys are awesome.

The story is actually great considering the fact that it is an MMO and rarely do you find MMOs with alot of story and character in it (Besides SWTOR). The story of this game hit me in a way that it made me want to protect the world. I don’t know about the others but I really felt shaken about the fact that the destiny’s edge is broken up, fighting and arguing along with orders arguing with one another. Another thing is the Claw Island moment… (SPOILERS)

…where you thought you are actually winning but then all hell breaks loose and now you are running away leaving your fave. mentor behind. I’m gonna miss that crazy sylvari….

(SPOILERS END)

Anyways, while my overall view of the story of the game is great, there are a few hiccups such as the voice acting. The voice is great in some parts, funny even but a bit cliche and overused in others. Overall, i’d give the story a 9/10, for an MMO.

I have fun every day in GW2.

There will be no new MMO that will beat it, quite simply.

Putting hopes on TESO is a major mistake guys, it’s exactly like SWTOR – an untested team with no experience cashing in on a major franchise (morrowind to skyrim).

And this folks is the definition of a fanboy. One who equates to thinking.

Game X > Game Y > Game Z rather than Game X + Game Y + Game Z. People like you are the reason that the gaming industry is changing for the bad, your shortsighted fanboy eyes, ruin every game that isn’t the one your pledge your alligence to.

There are amazing MMOS coming out in the future.

Black Desert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNtB5DoJ6OI
ArcheAge http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Jjg-TLBTZXg#t=165s
Elder Scrolls Online http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlEipFtHw7o
Wild Star

Really? Those are really minor games with the exception of TESO. You’re talking about games like Tera or TSW there. I’ve played nearly every major MMO that has come out in the last decade, and I can tell you it’s very clear when big things happen.

When WoW came out, that was a big deal. It was so much better than EQ – and yet EQ had its fanboys who defended it to the hilt. The same happened with GW2, it’s a huge leap forward compared to old MMOs, not because everything it does is new but because it ties in all those ideas into a great package, just like WoW did.

Anyway – Elder Scrolls. TESO says you can steal objects in the game world. See crafting mats you need? You can steal it?

Really? Think about that for a moment, an entire server of people able to steal things. There will be nothing on any table in Tamriel within 20 minutes of the servers being switched on.

It’s stuff like that which I find alarming about TESO. It’s being developed by Zenimax (very EA-like company) and not Bethesda (geniuses behind Skyrim etc), and they are marketing it with the same obvious bull that EA used for SWTOR.

GW2 has stayed within reasonable limits. It doesn’t do tank/healer/dps trinity, and has replaced it with a more organic tanky/glass/support type structure. It has dynamic events that allow the game world to “change” but not in impossible ways like TESO would have you believe.

Just be careful about hype. We know what bad hype is: SWTOR, Diablo 3, etc. Compared to those, GW2 has managed to keep a structured MMO game with a great metagame, while also making a lot of cool innovations that actually work within the game.

TESO is full of pipe dreams, and literally no reality to them at all.

You seem new to mmo’s. You say be careful of the hype like SWTOR? LOL Look at GW2 and its hype. Even worse. The best was when the fanbois kept posting GW2 won game of the year and all this yet GW2 never did win GotY. All hype no delivery.

On the contrary, GW2 won a MMO of the Year award and PC Game of the year award from IGN. Not to mention it also won two Goty awards from MMORPG and Massively. It was also Time’s #1 video game or you could say Game of the year. While not being in major Goty awards like the VGAs. This MMO achieved so many awards.

Action Combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Well. I think the action combat is done right since you are able to move while attacking (As stated by GummiBear above me). Mix that with dodging and real attack-tracking (Meaning that you won’t get hit by an Ai attacking when you are behind it), then you’ll get a combat system closer to a real action combat game.

P.S. I never played Vindictus and DN

The things I love about Guild Wars 2:

-No subscription
-Personal Storyline
-Choices in PS make a difference
-Dynamic Combat
-Beautiful World
-Vistas (They look amazing as hell)
-Voice over
-Character personality
-The amount of thing to do in the game
-Guilds
-PvP and PvE
-About PvP, the WvW is amazing too! I like how 2 or 3 epic parties clash Usually results in fireworks and beautiful effects. Not to mention riding on a golem feels like riding a kitten tank.
-The races’ backstory
-Again, in regards to the PS, I love how they execute their characters, especially Sieran… gonna miss that hyper mentor.
-CLAW ISLAND!
-Different weapon archetypes
-Different skills
-SPvP is very balanced compared too ther MMOs
-Outdoor raids
-Dungeons (Both Explorable and Story)
-Crafting

In other words, I basically love everything about this game. While I do get annoyed in some instances. This is a really fun MMO and it’s worth the money

I explore. And while I am not exploring, I craft materials. Really fun. If not crafting, I go do dungeons runs or I manage the guild. In short, I do alot of things in the game.
