Level-based zone scaling

How would that work when there’s a level 80 and a level 40? Everything would be set to level 80? That could work for instanced areas, but not open world areas.

what professtion to start with and what race

All opinions, of course:

The bigger races, norn and charr, can whack their heads on stuff. That is to say, in tight spaces they can be bothersome to maneuver.

The smallest race, asura, can suffer from “I-cant-see-my-armor-itis” which is to say, things are scaled so that kewl weapon or armor detail is lost until you zoom in tight. But I think they have the best animations and story and just a fun, humorous society.

For me, and at least one other poster I remember, the charr running animation makes me sea sick. Obviously, that must affect a vast minority of players, but worth mentioning if you are sensitive to such things.

All toons move at the same speed, scaled so a human is the norm, so norn feel like they are plodding along and asura feel like they are tripping over their own feet to keep up, even though they are not. I’m sure if you “main” one, then you probably don’t notice, but I play a lot of toons so it is obvious.

Another consideration is male vs female. In game terms, no difference, but the voice and animations are different, so try both.

Of my 40+ toons, I have way more humans and asura, a few sylvari, two norn, one charr. That poor charr elementalist has been parked at a reward chest forever now…

I just built a rather affordable system with an i5-6600k, ASUS Z170-AR motherboard, 16gb ram, SSDs, and it works great with GW2. I have my eye on an RX-470 video card, but even the built-in Intel graphics work much better than my old AMD-based system. I do games like GW2 and Civilization 6, nothing too terribly intensive. Boosts instantly, works great.

Curious why more people don't PvP or WvW

This is just my personal reasons for not doing sPvP and rarely doing WvW:

I don’t like fighting other players. That’s it, really. I’ve never cared for PvP in any game I’ve played; it’s not fun for me, so I don’t do it. So, since sPvP is all fighting against other players, it’s not really my sort of thing. Thus, I avoid it.

Now, I’ve done a fair amount of WvW. I enjoy the PvE aspects of it (killing npcs to take objectives), but, as with sPvP, I do not enjoy fighting other players. If someone comes along and is obviously trying to attack me or someone in my group, then I’ll fight back. But that whole part of it still tends to not be very fun for me. So, I tend to avoid WvW, unless I’m just in a mood to do it or need something from that part of the game.

Pretty much my feelings exactly. I tend to only venture out into WvW-lands early in the morning when there’s little chance of encountering someone, or just to kill the warg right around the corner. I will put up a feeble fight if I am confronted, but prefer to avoid or just port back to PvE-lands.

I don’t go into PvP-lands or any of the festival PvP experiences at all.

They should just “unlock” runes and sigils upon acquiring them, then allow the user to select from those unlocked in any appropriate upgrade slot. No need for an interface, other than the drop-down on gear slots that displays the unlocked items.

Yes, the market will take a hit, but the game will survive.

You’d undoubtedly get more of the responses you’re hoping for if you posted this in the Lore forum.

From a game perspective, if after the dragons, Anet takes us into Ascalon to purge the ghosts and form a Lion’s Arch-type free city, then sure, I’d be happy to go along for that ride.

Otherwise, humans vs. charr… don’t think that will happen.

Account Linkage idea

DeanBB.4268

An additional account is a distraction from your main account. Any time you spend on it is time you’re not advancing your main, whatever that means to you. So consider if you wish to add in that distraction.

All but one of my alt-account characters are level 80, plus I have 23 toons on my main account. Right now all but one of the alt-characters are parked at chests or nodes so I can log them in, grab something, and move on. I keep one free on each account to do dailies, festival stuff, visit the bank, etc. That still takes time.

All the alt accounts are Core, and the last 3 were cheap from sales or Amazon. I have not upgraded them in any way. I funnel almost all of the good stuff they get into the main account, including any gold over 20 and all non-account bound materials. I’ve sold over 1000 mystic coins.

I can tell from others who have posted about alt accounts that they treat them more equal, but that’s never how I’ve used them.

I also enjoy leveling toons, and 5 slots on a cheap alt account is a good investment for me.

From my additional accounts I get:

login rewards (laurels = materials, mystic coins = gold)
daily rewards (excess gold, materials)
harvesting of my home nodes (I have 2 computers)
materials and gold
rare or exotics to salvage
extra limited festival stuff – gifts, lucky envelopes

I haven’t for a while, but I was doing multiple key runs per weekend on the alts. If I feel ambitious to do so again, I may add a character slot on one or more of the alt accounts. That all takes time, so the more time you can spread between the accounts the more they may be of use. I vary between hardly using them and getting dailies done on all five. Even if it is just login rewards, there’s a benefit.

In summary: I enjoy the extra accounts, and I gain some in-game benefits from them.

That’d be the deciding factor. What things would be merged and what would remain separate? After all, those with multiple accounts have them for a reason. Daily logons, daily rewards, festival 1/days, crafting 1/days, teleport to friend. Take away too many of those advantages to gain some benefits, and it wouldn’t be worthwhile.

I can’t see it ever happening anyway.

Otherwise, pretty much anything you do gives you XP (until it doesn’t).

Use food, utility and other boosters as you go. Kill the rarely-killed critters along the way. The longer something stands there, the bigger the XP bonus. Hello yellows!

Being an owner of 5 accounts, I would love such a feature. But I can certainly see the downside. I would assume such an arrangement would be permanent. How could it not? Then what happens if a couple/friends/whoever breaks up, goes their separate ways, but their accounts are still linked? Methinks Anet does not want to get involved in that kind of mess.

Why am I so slow?

in Players Helping Players

DeanBB.4268

Longer answer:

There are skills, traits, and armor runes that grant always-on 25% movement speed increases. There are also skills, traits, runes and sigils that grant or enhance swiftness, which is a 33% movement increase.

Look at the skills and traits you already have or look on the wiki for skills/traits you will have to see what your professions offers. Warriors do get a 25% trait.

As for the runes, don’t worry about those until you reach level 80 and are building a set of armor you will be keeping. While leveling up, throw whatever runes you come across in your armor, since it doesn’t stick around for long.

Suggestion: Mythic Rarity Equipment

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DeanBB.4268

What I really want:

I have a piece of equipment, or a weapon. I have “unlocked” specific runes, sigils, jewels, and infusions. I want drop downs on that piece of gear that allows me to choose what I wish it to be based upon those upgrades I have unlocked.

Perhaps that is limited to exotic and higher gear. Perhaps the market for the expensive upgrades will crash.

But lugging around different sets of armor or, worse, not trying out different sets of armor due to cost, availability (celestial for example), and then having to carry all the alternate sets around is not fun. And I want the game to be fun.

It's time for race changes in the gem store

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeanBB.4268

DeanBB.4268

@Doam… I don’t see how choosing to only play one toon hinders a player. In fact, I would say the opposite: They have fewer distractions, so can accomplish more. Only map the world once, for example.

Yes, if they wish to access all crafting, they would have to pay some coin to switch when needed. But they wouldn’t have to keep track of which toon has which crafting maxed.

They would miss out on the level 30 (I think?) stories for each race, but they could easily complete that on one of their alt slots. Not an issue.

If they choose to only play one character, then what do they care about “unlocking other professions elites?”

About the only thing I can think of is if they wish multiple world completion rewards for crafting legendaries. Most legendaries can be purchased though, right? What else is really a factor?

Anet should improve it though, since it can be a pain. Give us some snowballing skritt separate from this event. Maybe a pack of them that gank you once you hit one to keep it interesting. Maybe they can randomly drop the sigils etc that were removed so people can get their wintery shoulders.

Why A New Race Is Highly Possible [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeanBB.4268

DeanBB.4268

And if I create a new character with this new “insta level 80” race, I would miss out on the personal story and all of its rewards. No key for level 10, no crafting materials, dye, salvage kits, etc. Granted, there isn’t a lot of value there short of a major score with a key, but loot is loot and I would take that into consideration when creating a character.

Maybe that’s more important to someone like me with many toons as opposed to a “one and done,” but still a factor.

So far, I haven’t seen any compelling evidence for Anet to go to the trouble of adding a race.

Beyond the stats. [Outfits vs Armors]

Remember that different materials dye differently. So if you apply dye Red to all pieces, the medium (leather) pants would probably look different than the light (silk) top. Players ask for these things, but I’d anticipate much screaming over the issues created, like color and clipping.

I highly doubt Anet wants to go there.

Racial skill synergy with professions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DeanBB.4268

DeanBB.4268

I assume, since you are asking about racial skills, that you are not trying to do anything optimal, but more for fun, or a character theme, or RP? So pretty much anything goes.

Otherwise, there will always be a better normal skill to take. For example, you could use the seed turret on a sylvari engineer, but you end up with a turret on a long cool down and I’m not sure the turret traits affect it.

Something like asura thief + caltrops + radiation field could be fun. But caltrops can be used twice as often as radiation field. So you see the challenges with trying to use the racial skills for anything other than fun.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DeanBB.4268

Right now, with Wintersday going on, get and sell gifts for some coin. The Wintersday dailies are in addition to the normal dailies, so they make it super-easy to finish.

Again, I don’t do any farming for gold, and I think right now I’m sitting at around 1120 gold. I have been playing since the start with a couple of months-long breaks in there, so have that advantage. But just playing the game gives me loot. Some I hoard and some I sell. Mystic Coins are ~90s each, so I sell extras. When a material store fills (2000), I sell off 500. I don’t purchase high end stuff, but am about half way through crafting the 18 ascended pieces for the achievement, which means I’ve gathered some of those materials and purchased some.

So with modest goals, plenty of gold comes in. More if you focus on it.

Each mode (PvE, WvW, PvP) has dailies. Complete 3 in any mode to get 10 AP and 2g. I often get 2 in PvE and 1 in WvW.

Farming is always the way to get gold in an MMO, at least if your goal is to maximize. Silverwastes and “AB Multiloot” are two common ones.

Personally, no farming here. Again, how much gold do you need and what do you want it for?

Since you didn’t state what you would want gold for, it’s hard to answer directly.

You don’t get a lot of coin from mobs, but you can salvage and/or sell the drops. Many complain there are too many drops/too many containers of drops. I personally don’t grind for anything and my gold hovers around 1000. Plenty to gear up a new level 80 or whatever.

I’d say it more depends on your goals. If you are crafting something, you can work to collect what you want. Or, if you want it sooner, you buy the materials. Or some combination of the two.

You mentioned PvP, but I’m not sure exactly why. There are reward tracks there that award even ascended gear now. Again, what are your goals?

I don’t see why it matters how many Charr Engineers vs. Asura Engineers are already in-game. Play what you enjoy playing. Or play both. Character slots are only 800 gems and will likely be on sale in the near future for something like 640. Then gear them different and enjoy two different play styles with one profession (plus animations, voice, etc).

Personally, just counting my main account, my original Engineer is Sylvari and the new one is Human. Unless/until they release a new specialization that I enjoy playing, I won’t create another. When they do, I’ll most likely make an Asura since I don’t enjoy playing Norn or Charr.
