(edited by Dusty Moon.4382)
Guild wars comes from the series of human wars called “the guild wars”.
There is more circumstantial evidence that points to the opposite conclusion: the game was made with GvG as a core foundational element and the lore was made to coincide. Certainly it makes much more sense this way round to explain the name.
inb4 “anet confirmed name comes from lore!!” — of course they did, 2 years in and they don’t have a pvp offering worth mentioning it’s no wonder they’d like to sweep the GW1 GvG legacy under the rug.
No – GvG was coincidental with GW1. Meaning that the game just happened to have GvG in it. Also too, since the Gods left the world, GvG serves no purpose – Guild Wars was about fighting for your God, like a religious war. Since there are not Gods in GW2, why have GvG (although you can do it now – they the coliseum in OS map).
They didn’t do it 2 years in, they did it in BETA. Please get your facts right before you spout garbage. A.Net had the lore out so that players could understand the whole situation in Tyria. It was pretty monumental Lore for only having one game out in this universe.

Since it is a Direct X game, I doubt there will be a direct port to Linux.
Actually, they’re making changes based on what fans have been asking for (such as permanent LS content and no time limits for achievements). And many of the players asking are Guild Wars 1 players. Logically then, they are adding the stuff that is being asked about by Guild Wars 1 players. However, there is nothing any place in Guild Wars 1 like Dry Top. Nothing at all.
There is – I went back and looked around the Maguuma Jungle when LS2 was introduced. It does look similar. Since GW1, did not have jump and did not have up and down, that is why it feels different.
Maybe aesthetically. Dry Top has been there for some time, it would make sense that it’s still around. The dragons may have altered the landscape but they didn’t just completely redefine it.
However that’s still pretty far off from the same design – especially when you look at the core gameplay (such as combat).
It is 250 years in the future – with the Elder Dragons rising – things probably would change – look at Ascalon…..
Rift had this and it was annoying when people kept chatting on Guild chat and weren’t in the game.
Most annoying feature ever.
there are no healers… ofc you aren’t getting rewarded… no one needs your healing lol, i can handle myself just fine . ty thou..
That’s the one glaring bad thing about this game – there’s no real community. You can literally just do everything solo, on your own (outside of dungs/fractals)…
Open world events? nope, not required to join a party , no real benefit other than somewhat making it easier to tag mobs.
Teq/Wurm? nope, you will still get chest if you arent in a party
You can still get boons and reflects, etc without being a party.
Too much zerg oriented content in this game… which is great for casuals lol
WvW? nope hop on a zerg or solo roam.
PvP? outside of team arena, no need to party up.this game could use more instanced content where it’s absolutely beneficial to be in a good, coordinated group of people. Theres too few examples of this right now. even after nearly 2 years, its only fractals/speed clearing dungs really.
Do you even play Teq or Wurm?
You need other players doing their jobs in different parts of the fight in order for the run to work.
Try doing teq without turrets – or wurm without reflects and tell me how it worked out. This game also caters to people who like more independence and not being tied down to other players. If we wanted that we’d be playing other trinity games where you can’t even attempt content without certain people playing healer or tank or whatnot.
I have done teq, many a times. and You don’t need to be in a group to win. You can just solo and hop on turret defense or join the zerg at teqs feet or shoot turrets, etc… then battery phase, just pick one and help defend it… done this countless times without needing to be in a party…. does it help to be in a full group doing a specific role? sure, more organized is always better, but I can still go in teq and it can still be successful without a party
A party is a 5 man group.
A zerg is a 40 man group. You still need to be part of groups to succeed at teq, you still need defense groups, turret groups, the ERT and so on – but you don’t need those small groups.
How is that an issue?
The encounter still requires strategy, organization and group play – but on a bigger scale than 5 man.If you want 5 man scaled content – dungeons and fractals are where you need to go – and you will see the clear benefit of having a group there.
Do a dungeon with 2-3 people or solo – then do it with 5 people. And the difference will be clear.
No a zerg is not just a 40 man group – A zerg is a MINDLESS 40 man group – for definition see CHAMP TRAINS. At Tequatl and the 3 headed Wurm, the group have to be coordinated so that is not a zerg. People wanted content that used more the 5 people and we got it. Now people are complaining about that.

When GW2 got released it was very different from GW1. But after about a year Anet started to implement gameplay mechanics from GW1 into the game again. Stuff like free retraiting, normal cutscenes and skill (trait) capturing.
And now they brought back the lockpick system and the missions are replayable and have bonus objectives like in Prophecies (espcially the bonus where you need to defeat the Inquest during the Aerin fight reminded me of that). So i find it interesting how the devs were experimenting a year long just to come back to where they started.
Did you have similair thoughts about that?
(Also it would be fascinating to hear a response from Anet about it.)
Not a return to GW1 (I hope not). Just because they borrow some ideas from GW1 doesn’t mean they are going back. Like the lockpicks, that is really only for an Achievement on the map, that is all.
I think it is just wishful thinking on your part.

AND
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lore
There is lore to the GW games. Just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean it is not there.
I guess you don’t understand WvWvW at all – it does have PvE content. WvWvW is a combo between PvE and PvP. As far as zerging, that is the PLAYER’S OPTION, not the game. I often play WvWvW in a small dedicated and coordinated group. Also, with the advent of voice communication, who is to say the big ARE UNCOORDINATED? The term ‘ZERG’ means uncoordinated or mindless (look at most world bosses – those are ZERGs), but big groups are hard to coordinate and to the player on an opposing side, they look uncoordinated.
Try EotM then, that is a new map in the mists. That is mostly PvE, as that is how the players are using that map.
There is a real PvP – sPvP and yes you can play GvG in that, just not with 8 people per team.
As far as your suggestion, you know not what you are talking about. WvWvW has the most players in it, based on what A.Net has said.
I guess you don’t understand “Guild Wars” at all.
Ok, let me explain, again.
Currently there are no sense in playing WxWxW.
What I am suggesting is that the WxWxW maps (only WxWxW maps) become extensions of PvE maps with new quests, new goals, trade, farms and housing with “real” and “total” open PvP where different guilds can compete (it doesn’t matter the source server) .
Alone or group players could choose factions (temporary or not) as well.
This means that WxWxW maps would allow PK: Player (s) vs. player (s), the real PvP, and no longer a zerg festival.
So, it is a good solution for GW2.
ROFL – YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND – The name Guild Wars comes from LORE ( http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lore ) and it was coincidental that you could GvG in GW1.
There is a sense to WvWvW – it is for server pride. If you don’t understand that, then no one can really force you to understand. The WvWvW maps are too big for GvG and would end up being like EotM (which is one zerg following another – that map in non-coordinated).
A.Net has already stated that this game was NOT designed for Open world PvP – period. The game would have to totally redesigned and that is NOT going to happen. They designed WvWvW to be a more controlled and pointed PvP with elements of PvE involved.
Sorry this game is not for you – move on.
One of the things I hate most about leveling Alts (besides the new trait system) is the search for decent gear. Most players that have already reach 80 before don’t want to do it all over again starting from scratch. Why not allow those of us that have invested the time and gold into making Ascended/Legendary gear usable for leveling our alts. It would add more value and encourage Ascended crafting. Given the high price and minor stat boost between Exotic vs. Ascended the only real reason to invest in making it would be to either look cool or run high level fractals which seemingly not very many do. It could even help close the level gap from (80s only) dungeons and allow lower level players to function at equal/near equal effectiveness if its scaled correctly.
My idea is that it would be scaled down to Rare/Exotic quality gear for gear of that level. Additional attributes will also become available as you continue to level up like:
Ascended Berserker Gear
Lvl 1-20 (Power)
Lvl 21-55 (Power/Precision)
Lvl 56-80 (Power/Precision/Ferocity)The only issue I can think of would be how Runes/Sigils would scale and stack. At least for me I never bothered putting on any until lvl 39 for Major components which still didn’t seem like it made a big difference.
This makes me LOL – I guess you just want to faceroll things w/o having to work for it.
I think the answer is obvious – NO!
Let’s just agree on what we have known about this game for some time now, the devs have missed the mark on a majority of patches/features and this development cycle/content implementation is generic/a failure.
You not liking something makes it neither generic nor a failure. I won’t agree to it, because that’s simply an opinion. We don’t even know if it’s a majority opinion. A lot of people I talk to really seem to like the new content. Certainly it gets enough upvotes on reddit.
Failure implies something very specific. You can say you don’t like something. You can say it’s not fun (for you). Calling it a failure is simply misusing the language.
Let’s see; twitch views are low, forum post views/comments are the lowest I’ve ever seen, pvp tournaments barely get 200 viewers (used to be 4,000 summer last year, a lot more before that), ArenaNet releases no figures supporting ‘active playerbase’ (just sales over the cumulative period since launch – which a vast majority is from the early launch period and these figures hide the actual active player base), servers were ‘merged together as a feature’, many implementations have been forgotten about (take for example guild missions), problems with bots (such as nerfing ‘fast farmers drop rate’) have yet to been effectively addressed, no new legendaries, pvp queue system remains broken, same pvp game mode since launch, no significant new dungeons/etc. I’d say all that is quite a good support of my comments above. Nonetheless, sorry you don’t agree with the clear opinion I painted that also happens to be significantly backed by the large amount of dip in both viewers, forum viewers, and forum commenters. Sure, some people don’t visit the forum, some don’t view twitch, etc – I still don’t see how a significant decrease in these numbers is not a clear indicator of a depreciating community & in turn a representation of said communities’ dissatisfaction. Cheers. You’ve been a fan-boy since day one, which is fine; I don’t agree with your opinion either
.
Bots? I haven’t seen any bots in a long time.
Just because someone doesn’t agree with your opinion, they are not a ‘Fan Boy’. You have just taken your argument to the FOX News type of argument – which is condescending and generally non-productive.
Pointing at you Arenanet, do you have any advice to your customers/players who are addicted to your game, but its got to a point where its to much?
That is THE PLAYERS problem not A.Net. I would suggest uninstalling and moving on.
I hope not. That will waste players time when other things can be done. Want housing AA and other games already have it.
Ok, let me explain.

And this is why developers normally avoid telling anyone anything about their products until they’re almost ready for release.
Even Peter Molyneux learnt that lesson.
Or they just leave a small print that this is in active development and intended for release in year x, with no fixed deadline.
You need to throw info out to players interested. It’s in fact crucial. Look at ESO, I consider Matt Frior’s May roadmap letter to be the reason why ESO still actually exists. Launch was a bugfest, reviews were poor, players weren’t happy, and in short, it was a mess. But him talking about all the cool stuff they were working on got people hyped, it was the first time when there was a generally positive atmosphere in the forums. You need that anticipation, otherwise people got nothing to look forwards to.
He had no choice in the matter – the game sucked so bad, it wasn’t worth the money people spent on it.
People are now lauding FFXIV but this is go around 2 for that game and the first one made sure I would never try an FF game again.
This game forum does not have the same type of posters – most here are OCD or have personality problems (too much self importance) . It is what it is.
I think thats a bit insulting, but anyways.
People like having good things to look forwards to. It’s not just something you do on a failing game, developers since time immemorial has been talking about things in their upcoming games. You need hype, you need to get players excited and think it’s worthwhile to stick with the game, or at least keep it on their radar.
It is not insulting – it is the truth. All you have to do is read the negative threads on this forum. I read the threads and shake my head at all the declarative statements that just bash this game w/o any suggestions as to what can be done constructive.
And this is why developers normally avoid telling anyone anything about their products until they’re almost ready for release.

He had no choice in the matter – the game sucked so bad, it wasn’t worth the money people spent on it. The difference is that game is box plus sub (with a CS) and for the amount of coin they should put out a good product – it was not. Also that game is not even 6 months old and they needed to stop the loss of players from the game.
People are now lauding FFXIV but this is go around 2 for that game and the first one made sure I would never try an FF game again.
This game forum does not have the same type of posters – most here just whine – very few offer concrete CONSTRUCTIVE criticisms. If there were more constructive types of posts, there might be more info here. As it is, I don’t blame the developers for keep quiet.

Can we fix this please, It looks like I split my underwear down my buttcrack.
Its a little disturbing…
Little things like that never get changed. BTW, why are you looking up your character skirt – kind of creepy if you ask me.
Here is a screen cap from GW1 – this is bad but was never fixed at all.
1. Is all the debris scattered around from Scarlet’s attack on Lion’s Arch?
2. I don’t understand the loading screen. Nothing in Kessex Hills resembles it.
No – the Kessex Hills stuff was from the Toxic Tower, which was one part of LS1.
The forums have become a toxic environment for the devs. Whether they respond or not they will get negative responses either way lol.
Too much negativity in these forums from the players imo.
But the thing is that yes we are “players” but more importantly than that we are paying customers. Regardless if you bought the game for yourself or someone gifted it to you you are still a paying customer. Everyone seems to lose sight of that fact and act like it’s ok because this is a game and not some other product.
Arena Net is a business and businesses deal with unhappy customers. They deal with negative feedback. They don’t bury their heads in the sand and tell their paying customers how to give proper feedback, they don’t pass out infractions like they’re lording over a school room, they don’t accuse people of being “toxic”. The way they interact with their customers is horrible.
The game for all of its problems is good. Not great, good. But the customer service is probably some of the worst I’ve ever experienced.
There is a difference between unhappy and whining. Most people, on this forum, whine, not complain. There have been some excellent threads that were constructive but many are just demanding, pouting and whining threads. This thread is a classic example.
Developers have no chance in those types of threads – kitten ed if you do and kitten ed if you don’t.
Nothing wrong with customer service – it is exactly the same as it was in GW1 – don’t see a difference.
Do I think this game is perfect? No – there isn’t one out there that is perfect.

You have those items already. The vendors are in LA.
Maybe they don’t look like you want them to but they have been in the game since the beginning.
This armor is totally out of the game. The only person wearing some of it is Countess Anise . (She’s wearing the chest and possibly the boots part)
That is a GW1 armor – that was NEVER in the game at all.
That would be how. I’ve got them too, and I’ve never once entered PvP.

Many of the skins do have a counterpart in PvE. They just have a different name.
The problem with many ’zerker builds are glass cannons – hence why so many drop like flies when fighting world bosses.
Do you have any evidence that the players dropping at world bosses are wearing berserker gear?
I have asked – all I need to know. My squishy Mesmer doesn’t drop like they do.
The forums have become a toxic environment for the devs. Whether they respond or not they will get negative responses either way lol.
Too much negativity in these forums from the players imo.
And non-players as well. Totally true Gizmo.
mine was soulbound before the feature patch, and is now accountbound. not sure what happened to yours. are you at least able to use the skin on other characters?
Is yours infused? If not, that is why – the OP’s is.
After reading some threads in here I understand why devs don’t bother reading them.
Exactly!
Character names are game-wide, so it doesn’t mean he would be on a different server. Could be the same server or a different server. You should be able to add your friend’s Display Name (make sure to include the numbers) and interact with him no matter where he is (at least chat-wise). If he is in a different region (NA vs. EU), you would not be able to party up with him. The exception might be PvP, I’m not sure.
You should be able to whisper him, with his account name and see the above post – good info there.
Berserker is always the best DPS option; especially in high level fractals because a lot of enemies abilities scale of % of total HP and ignore armor.
The problem with many ’zerker builds are glass cannons – hence why so many drop like flies when fighting world bosses.
The amount of DMG ’zerker has over other builds is not as great as it used to be.
To the OP, where will you be playing WvW or PvE? That will determine what you should get. In WvW, toughness and HP help survivability.
The rare backpieces like Dwayna, Grenth, and Lyssa are soulbound.
Didn’t Anet do one called the Yakkington Post?
And I want to see Skritt running about town going “Shinies! NEW SHINIES!”
That was done in GW1 already by some fans.
Hmm, no problems here, most times I land in the same shard as party and guild members, unless that shards is really packed (Dry Top the first few days), or because those guild/party members are based on a different home server.
Same here, experienced no problems with MegaServer. The only time I run into issues where they are on a different megaserver is when the map is really full and I am unable to join their map. If that’s the case they just join mine and the issue is fixed.
You have never done organised Tequatl or THW events, have you?
I have – so there are a few unintended problems – when I have done them we still can beat them both down. Whining and complaining gets one nowhere – try offering some CONSTRUCTIVE ideas but know I don’t think we will be getting rid of mega-servers.
I wouldn’t be surprised if devs had secondary accounts for personal freedom. At least I would have.
They have, but we won’t see them.I just hope they get backstabed then heartseeker spammed in pvp,get passed by warhorn GS sword warri or nuked by a hambow warrior, kittened by mesmer and engi and I hope they also play as a ranger!
How childish. “I hope the devs get slaughtered because they don’t talk to me on the forums!”
You understand wrong.I just wish for them to play their own game and fight against something they actually call ‘’Works as intended’’.
Edit:and yes if I could slaughter their character in PvP or WvWvW,I should do it if I can if not I would try it until I can.
The developers do play this game and have their own WvW guild. As expected, they play better than the average good player.
I really don’t enjoy going out into the world and see it overrun with random people.
Like rats they swarm over mobs, dominate the landscape and inhibit immersion.
It is really killing my game buzz.
Is there a server free from this plague? Or is that it now? Done and dusted, as it were….game over.
Sure there is a way – don’t play GW2. You can’t avoid it – join in or don’t play. it is very simple really.
The million dollar question.
“Where are the devs?”
I can tell you where they are not. Engaging with the customer’s here.
Developers are well, developing. We are in the middle of LS2 and will get the next chapter next week. They are busy with work.
Customer Relation people deal with us – not developers.
I don’t have those issues. I think you might be having issues with corruption of your dat file.
I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the game.
I would love to play new chars but the process of leveling is really a pain in the cow dodo. I already have 5 80 characters, I no longer find pleasure doing the same old stories and hearts over and over again for a tinny bitty little experience.
For players that have more than 5 characters, pls, let us permenatly have triple exp until level 80!
No – since this game has a flat exp leveling, it is not that hard to get to level 80.
You also need to look at the guild par of this forum. There are plenty of great guilds out there. You don’t want to join the ones who spam recruiting in map chat – most of them are about size not involvement.
A.Net said the game was NOT designed for 1st person viewing. This is due to the fact A.Net wants people invested in their characters or so they said.
I moved from Aurora Glade to Desolation during week 1 of the Season 2 WvW tournie, and after a few days, was able to play in the WvW maps. I saw I was associated with AG, which also said as I play, this would gradually change. I play an average of 4-6 hours per day in WvW, so I assumed this would change during the course of the weeks. It is almost 3 months since I put in a bug report regarding this, but not only did I lose out on the Deso Tokens for their placing, but seems many wasted hours playing for nothing. I also lost a Guild bank full of mats (mithril, orich ancients), food, buffs, rares, exotics etc. These things were reported all at the same time, yet today, 04 July 14, I am still associated with Aurora Glade, and as yet 3 months later have yet to receive a response. I spent gems to transfer, which I purchased, yet no response. I have seen game issues and exploits fixed within 24 hours, as it affects you, yet this is now 3 months old and getting a bit stale.
Sorry – you transferred too late. A.Net bluntly posted that people who transfer during the WvW season will not get credit on the server they transferred to.
1. Are you sure you transferred?
2. It is not 3 months – but a month or 2 since the season ended just before end of May. They would not respond to you about your server transfer during the season because you transferred when it was already started.

Extra fun fact: the population of WvW who plays any given week regularly is larger than the entire population of all of Gw1 the game any given week for a large chunk of the games lifespan. Just want to put things in perspective, Gw1 was amazing, but there is a reason we made Gw2.
That is some information. But it’s soft numbers from 10 months ago about a game that is 22 months old. So it’s from back when the game was half as old and tells nothing about the current state of popularity.
Not that I don’t think the game is popular, just that we don’t have current numbers to say.
Well we do have financial statements where GW1 doesn’t even break out of the “Other Games” category which is a fraction of GW2’s revenue. That’s a pretty good indicator right there.
And GW2’s revenues are consistent with what they were 10 months ago.
Yah, or it’s a good indication that their gem store is bringing in a fair amount of money which is not exactly the same as popularity, population or high concurrency.
I think the best indication we will get is when they release the revenue numbers from the period around China release. Personally I would love for them to be more transparent and release sales of the game to date as well as concurrency, but it would seem that for business reasons they won’t. Which is one of the things that fuels the “game is dying” people.
People that don’t like the game will ALWAYS argue that the game is dying. Even with concrete black and white numbers. It is one of the problems in this modern age, everyone is a critic/expert even though they only know little or nothing on the topic.
Sylvari got redesigned at some point. They used to look more human. I guess this is the old design, which is sometimes seen in-game. For example, this is what Caithe used to look like:
Not all Sylvari look human – it just depends although Caithe does (may be all the first born). I don’t think A.Net redesigned them at all.
(edited by Dusty Moon.4382)
I have a level 80 Elementalist, Engineer, Warrior, and Guardian. I have mid levels of all the rest. Most of my experience is in PvE so take it for what it’s worth.
Anyway, with GW2 it all comes down to DPS (for now). So it all depends on how you like to deal that damage. My Warrior does very well in PvE with Greatsword and duel axes. My Elementalist does well with Staff or Double Dagger. My Guardian uses Greatsword and sword focus. While my Engineer is kind of the one I experiment with. I use a lot of kits and change up the sigils and runes a lot.
If your game play is a bit more stationary (which is hard if not impossible in GW2) or if you simply have difficulty dodging some attacks I think Warrior would be a good choice. It can rely heavy on melee. And with the new runes in Season 2 you can focus a little harder on a “tankier” build.
Ele and Guard can be VERY glassy. Tons of damage but one get caught with may direct hits. They can make for a very fluid combat experience.
Engi is a jack of all trades depending on you build. Medium armor, great range with the grenades, and potential to throw down turrets. Weapon are a bit limited though if you don’t like the kits.
TheSwede explained it well – DPS is just one part. If all you do is DPS, then you end up dying in higher level areas faster.
I am in a medium sized guild and we are growing. We have no issues with the mega-server. It is a non-issue as far as I am concerned.
Duels and Cantha are most desired content we ware waiting for and those that dont like it are just minority.
No they aren’t. People asking for those are just minority.
Why dont you go then and look how many views and comments Cantha tread has? I dont even want to talk about numbers of treads made for dueling.Stop been selfish people.Dueling wont hurt anyone.
last time i saw a thread like this about 80% were against duels, the reason why you don’t see “remove duels” threats because it isn’t in PvE.
if it was, i can guarantee that allot of players would leave the game permanently, apparently it does hurt someoneWell i played WOW,AION,and at least 10 more MMORPG games and no1 ever left cause of duels
.But i know that many people did left GW2 cause of lack of duels and 1 of them is my brother. This is only MMORPG game that i know that has no open world (pk) or duels in open world at all.It was only thing that was backing me off from buying this game. But what lacks here…Everquest Next will have.Too bad that Anet always learns too late.
the reason why they didn’t left the game because of duels is because they accepted the fact, GW2 is the only MMO where PvE is free from duels.
in fact, i know some who play this game because there are no duels in PvE, if it’s added then you can expect a decline of players. That poll above proved everything clear.Majority of people want duels.Minority will leave but more people will come ( or stay to this game).
The majority, from this forum, as that is the only place you will see this straw poll do not play the game. Therefore the input they have have doesn’t matter. Ask the people in game – you will find people opposed to Duels.
Besides, you can duel already in sPvP – but then the tables are equaled because you can’t use your Ascended items there. That is the thing these people DON’T WANT.
Whilst GW2 never had the disastrous launch that FF14 had, nevertheless it was a disappointment to many people and never lived up to its true potential, nor the legacy of the first Guild Wars.
The shame of it is, GW2 is not a terrible game, which means there’s little incentive to fix the very serious and fundamental problems the game has. FF14 was a total wreck, and that was enough to force Square to bow their heads and remake it into FF14:ARR. Sure, you may or may not like the type of game FF14:ARR is, (I don’t, really) but from everything I’ve heard, it’s fulfilled its potential and the people that like that kind of thing really think it’s a great game.
Now that we have “Living World Season 2” coming, it’s maybe a good time to think about an expansion pack or reboot, that really FIXES the problems that have been there from day 1.
Sure, you might care about these things less or more or not at all, but I’m pretty sure everyone agree that “There’s room for improvement here.”
- Combat needs an overhaul.
Currently GW2 is an unhappy hybrid between action games and MMOs.On the action side, the mechanics are too shallow, and there isn’t a proper risk/reward system in place. Even something as simple as “Powerful attacks and defensive skills use endurance too”, would mean that you have to make the difficult choice between using your endurance on offense, or saving it for dodging/defense. Rather than just hitting every skill on cooldown 90% of the time.
Also, too many of the traits are passive, minor and invisible. It would be much better if (like Diablo 3), choosing traits produced visible and game-changing alterations to how some of your skills worked. (eg. The elementalist trait Evasive Arcana is a good one.)On the MMO side, there isn’t much depth in the way players cooperate in battle at the moment. Support skills are usually PBAoEs, that encourage everyone to stack on a single point (which is silly on many levels) and there aren’t any meaningful Roles.
ANet needs to rework a lot of the skills and traits so that they have strengths and weaknesses that depend/interact with your team. For example, give each class some support skills (ie. skills that heal/benefit others) that are very strong, but have a casting time that is interrupted by any attack. Then add more skills to every class that can knockdown/knockback the enemy and create projectile shields.
So, without pigeonholing any class to a role, we can allow players to build defensive and supporting roles, in addition to the usual offense. There’s a whole bunch of other stuff, but I’ll just list them quickly since it’s already a wall of text.
- Enemy AI also needs a lot of work.
- Some fundamental features are missing from PvP and WvW – Like observer mode, build templates, etc.
- The metagame mechanics of WvW is quite broken. When the best rewards come from karma trains rather than epic combat, your Epic Combat mode is not designed properly.
-The personal/living story system, and the story of the game, is not sustainable. Personally I think it would be much better if you weren’t Saving The World, and instead Personal Stories could be shorter episodes about your character, like “My quest to find my sister who was captured by a circus and the adventures I had along the way.” There’s a potential for a huge variety of such Personal Stories, whereas you can only really Save The World a couple of times before it gets really silly.Anyways, time for a reboot.
You will not get a redefined game – sorry that will not happen. It was done in FF14 because it was such a crummy game they had to do something to save it. That game never got off the ground. This game is already 2 years old. Redefining the game like that now, would just cause too many issues and lose too many players.
How do you know the PS, etc. is unsustainable? Are you a game designer or design for this game? The PS up until lvl is all about your character and how it gets to where you realize that you have to fight a Elder Dragon. That is not the end but the beginning since there are more Elder Dragons to fight.
Karma trains, etc. are not meta games designed by A.Net but is player defined. You can say what you want, but they already dealt with the issue in lower level areas and people whined like a bunch of little school girls. Karma trains do not give you the best rewards as it is a case of diminishing returns – what A.Net might do is lower the time from 3 hours to 1 hour for the anti-farm code to kick in. The karma trains would die.
The best rewards come from Doing an entire event, like Orr events, etc.
WvW does not need observer mode, that is too ripe for exploitation by other servers. There is observer mode in sPvP where it should be.
Reboot – no – tweaking yes!
You don’t need to even wear a breather when fighting or swimming underwater. They do not count except for sigils and even then I am not sure about it. Why bother with an ascended item when they don’t matter?

I’ve attached a dueling-poll in my signature below, since the last big thread about this subject.
Sorry – but since most who are against won’t vote – it is a straw poll, meaning not scientific and not worth ANYTHING.
Ask in game – you will be surprised how many people say no there.
It gives you a good estimation – But it’s probably quite different in reality.
There was actually a second poll with it’s own thread, simply saying “vote”. It got 14% against, 8% neutral, rest was for dueling in a few variations (although not very limiting).
It’s surprisingly similar to the numbers in this poll below.
This forum has mostly people who don’t play the game and just come here and whine about it. As I said, ask in game, where people are playing the game not on a forum to whine about the game.

No thank you! PvP has the worst reputation for in game hostility in the entire game and shudder to think of those attitudes in pve.
What next? WvW in pve? Walking to do an event and an enemy zerg pops around the corner?
Keep that pvp genie well and truly locked in its bottle where it belongs.WvW is a combination of PvP and PvE and that is the point. it is a transition from total PvE to PvP in a more controlled map.
The ONLY REASON WvW is a combination of PvP and PvE is because us PvEers are FORCED into WvW in order to get a few PoIs, Vistas and waypoints, nothing more, if it wasn’t for that you would NEVER see a PvEer in WvW, so, your analogy is flawed.
LOL – don’t say NEVER. I prefer WvW to PvE in this game, almost. Yes, I am mostly a PvE’er. Don’t say never – you oft times find yourself wrong.
