if you are talking about warriors speced to run then that would be the greatsword, sword/horn or sword/shield.

if you are talking about warriors speced to fight then that would be hammer, axe/shield or mace shield.

no warrior that actually intends to fight and do damage runs with both greatsword and sword. and the build that uses the hammer is a completely different build.

it looks to me like you are arguing how over powered the warrior is by comparing two or three different warrior builds to be the same build.

you suggestion is flat out stupid. no way to get around that, it’s pretty dumb

because the warrior lacks access to a lot of damage mitigation. (aoe blinds, protection, aegis, clones, pets, stealth) the warrior has to take the majority of the damage that they are dealt directly.

that is the entire reason that they have a large hp pool AND heavy armor. because they don’t have any other way of mitigating damage.

so your suggestion for a HEAL that increases the amount of damage that they take directly…

by now we have all experienced the problem with the ranger sword auto attack

we also, however, know that arena net is reluctant to change it because they don’t want to change the flavor of the sword.

i propose a change that would hopefully fix the self rooting issue, wouldn’t change the sword in any serious way and increase the dps ever so slightly.

- make the sword auto attack chain skill [kick] no longer a 400 range leap. instead it has no leap and can be used while moving.

my suggestion is thus

-crack shot is moved to the discipline tree.
-the cast times of auto attack and other skills are adjusted to be more responsive. (currently the weapon feels sluggish and unwieldy)
-brutal shot is replaced with kill shot, kill shot is changed to deal the same damage as brutal shot with the same cast time. at 900-1500 range it deals bonus damage equal to twice its regular damage. if it strikes a target in the back it does double damage.
-new burst skill is volley with a reduced 2 1/2 second cast time. 4 shots at one bar of adrenaline. 5 shots at two bars, and 6 shots at 3 bars. cast time doesn’t change
-auto attack’s bleed is removed, instead it fires twice in rapid succession.

i believe that the problem with rifle is a little too deep to really fix with a bandage, the rifle lacks depth, it feels clunky, it doesn’t have good utility, it doesn’t synergize with the other weapons.

its a single target weapon, that doesn’t do a good job of taking down single targets.

if they removed the bleed from the auto attack (buffing the damage to compensate) and moved [crack shot] to the discipline tree then i think that alone might be enough to make the rifle viable

granted something needs to be done with the no. 4 skill brutal shot.

1 second cast time for a few stacks of vulnerability just isn’t that good a deal. it needs more utility.

i think the big problem with elementalist is that most of your skills don’t really feel like they make an impact.

its like you run around and throw everything and the kitchen sink and hope something sticks.

the direct damage skills need a buff, quiet a few skills desperately need a cooldown reduction. and the focus needs some serious love.

also a lot of the elementalist traits are extremely boring.

i propose that three of our traits get switched around to better place them in the trait tree that they should belong to.

strength- vii [distracting strikes] gets moved to the arms tree
arms- vii [crack shot] gets moved to the discipline tree
discipline viii [destruction of the empowered] gets moved to the strength tree

so you now have a condition damage trait under the condition tree, a crit + burst weapon under the crit burst tree and a direct damage trait under the damage tree

now we need to address the rifle. its utility is practically none existant. and its auto attack tries to do two separate things at once that totally conflict with its burst.

i hate how greatsword is only taken to either hundred blades or run from fights.

after talking with a guild mate we discussed what changes we would like for the greatsword.

3- same attack, same mechanics, it now moves you the same distance as it would if you where crippled. this allows you to land all of the attack more reliable. and makes it less useful for creating distance.

5 – changed to a leap with the same range as the guardians greatsword leap. applies an aoe cripple on hit.

the meta build for the hammer is all about using earthshaker as often as possible. with the correct traits and sigils you can enjoy 45% increased damage on earthshaker.

after doing that you keep the damage rolling with back breaker and fierce blow. at that point the hammer is used up and unless you want to do some slow auto attacks weapon swap to a faster weapon. usually axe. which is perfect since it builds adrenaline very fast and you can swap back on the weapon swap cooldown to hit earthshaker again.

i’m worried about WvW roaming.

i mainly plan on staying in air and water attunement. the staff gives me long range aoe control and the hammer gives me powerful close quarters spike damage.

since eles have a small health pool anyway i wanted multiple ways of removing conditions since in WvW now a days you mainly have to worry about condition damage thieves, warriors, engineers and necros.

all of these class builds have trouble dealing with spike damage, thus the hammer, but to prevent yourself from being killed from conditions i wanted to be able to remove lots of conditions no matter what attunement i happened to be in.

you could replace the sigil of corruption with the sigil of geomancy.

every time you swap weapons you aoe condition bomb. this would allow the following combo.

[pindown](6 stacks of bleed) – into dodge roll into them weapon swap (3 stacks of bleed) – auto attack (1 stack of bleed) for a total of 10 stacks of bleed in under 2 seconds.

humans have a racial skill called reaper of grenth that surrounds them in a dark shroud and causes poison and chill in an aoe around them.

shield 4 – cooldown reduced to 25 seconds, does 50% more damage at less then 200 units from caster. applies aegis for 10 seconds instead of protection.

shield 5 – cooldown reduced to 30 seconds, blast finisher, blowout instead of knock back.

just my suggestion to significantly improve the shield for guardian.

Not sure I follow you (granted I only made 80 on my warrior a few days ago). How is the WH all that effective? By dropping the off-hand sword, you give up a huge block ability and that nice extra condition you can use with the #4.

The other problem I have found with the condi build in general is that when you face off against a Necro, things don’t end well. All those conditions I apply are sent right back to me.

thats kind of where the warhorn comes into play. instead of having to build up and land your burst you can use your warhorn to remove your conditions for you. the big main condition removing skill has a 12 second cooldown and effects all allies in a 1200 range radius. on top of that it turns bleed and torment into vigor and poison (one of our big counters) into regen.

so the trade off is instead of a fairly decent block and another dot condition you are gettting aoe weakness, condition removal, and a blast finisher.

this is a Spvp or WvW build. its very similar to the sword/sword longbow build except it has a lot more support options. actually this build is superior to sword/sword longbow in spvp in nearly every way

one of this best things about this build is it contains the possibility of protection up time. in WvW yesterday i fought a greatsword/mace warrior, longbow ranger and guardian at once and was winning because they kept on spamming vulnerability at me letting me turn it into protection.

(if you think warrior is over powered right now, warrior is really over powered when it has access to protection.)

also unlike a 4 signet sword/sword longbow warrior this build is a lot more group orientated. so you aren’t only removing conditions from yourself, but your allies as well. (and warbanner for clutch revives)

i made a few changes to your build, you will have increased raw damage, and little condition damage since you really won’t be needing it with your weapon set.

this is a build i run purely for aesthetics as well. since i like the axe/shield hammer look.

i did WvW from launch, the orb buffs proved themselves to be a terrible idea.

they proved themselves to be such a terrible idea that Anet had to remove them in a frankly sloppy manner.

this change is nothing more then bringing a bad idea back as a different flavor.

Wow, i’ve got to be honest with you. I’ve never even heard of someone trying to use [Earthshaker] purely for movement. That you seem to think its a serious problem makes me wonder about your balance priorities, the fact of the matter is, warriors do get punished for missing their burst skills.

like it’s been mentioned before, if we lost our adrenaline after every time we used our burst, even if we miss, then with cleansing ire we would have one of the best condition removal systems in the game.

if not, well we would still have to deal with the cooldowns on our burst skills, which go on full cooldown whether we hit or not.

honestly i can’t see any good reason for changing the way it works other then to just try and mess with warriors. your argument that it is exploitable, while maybe correct, is also very thin.

i saw a post somewhere where someone suggested making holding the temples confer a bonus to WvW players, since WvW players confer a bonus to PvE players.

i think these bloodlust points could have potential if they operated in such a manner. let them help pve players, and let the temples help WvW players. but don’t give them stat bonuses. magic find, gold find, karma gain and repair cost reduction only.

it allows you great control, impressive damage rotations and plenty of survivability. personally i wouldn’t buy into these “pro” warriors telling you to run 30/0/0/10/30. run what you want, but the defense line offers a lot of great utility that you probably don’t want to miss out on.

shield is a great weapon in dungeons, do don’t always have the luxury of timing your dodges perfect. and you can’t practice if you are constantly dying. good use of the shield will allow you to do a lot of things that benefit your team (aside from not having to be resed) such as face tanking certain bosses (AC) eating spikes for your team without dying (AC, HotW, CoE) buying time for your team (CoF) and grouping mobs (all dungeons)

The Counterplay to Stealth

well heck, the 4 second stun on the warriors mace isn’t over powered at all by that logic. after all its a short ranged telegraphed weapon skill that does nothing unless you get hit by it or have stability. you can even end the stun early by using stunbreakers.

one of the main reasons people are upset about stealth is because of the many ways thieves have to get stealth. its not an enjoyable mechanic for the person on the opposite end when most of the fight is carried out swinging where you think the thief may be.

some people say that if the thief stealths away from the fight then you should just be happy because you won. i say that that isn’t true, a lot of enjoyment from a fight comes from finishing the fight. that moment of victory when you know that you have won.
also consider if it would be alright if in WvW you no longer got loot and experience from player kills because often you get no loot or experience for getting “victories” over good thieves.

right now the thief is kind of just a troll class, i would hardily agree that the thief could use some substantial buffs in a lot of key areas and quite a few strait up changes. i think the biggest change and buff that would help the thief class as a whole would be the removal of stealth, or at the very least make it a lot harder to come by. as it stands any change to the class for the better, any real quality of life change has to be tempered against the possibility of substantial stealth abuse. as a result all other builds suffer for it.

not that terribly high of a skill cap weapon set, but you can do some truly terrible things to people. also you can set up your utilities to pretty well counter the meta warrior, since the meta warrior is weak to burst and every one of your disables on the hammer is a damage spike.

i like using hydromancy on my shield for the slow, helps land shield bash and eviscerate. impact on the hammer makes your earthshaker hit for 35% extra damage.

there are certain items that, while not legendary status, are exceedingly hard to find and come by.

i can only think of two right now, but could we maybe get some updated graphics for the following items?

infinite light – a longsword that requires 250 charged lodestones, 250 orichalcum blades 100 mystic coins and an eldrich scroll. just getting all of the charged lodestones is a task in itself, but once you have done that the weapon glows a little bit, but the dust that comes off the blade is hardly noticeable. all i would ask for this would be some additional particle effects for when you swing this weapon.

ghost eaters hide – an incredibly rare exotic back piece, actually one of the first exotic back pieces in the game. this currently had no effects and no visibility. could we get something for this item? make you ghost like, or have a short trailing effect.

for a lot of GS warriors the whirlwind is a third evade, yes

if you are having trouble killing things, especially in groups, try using a hammer instead of a greatsword. its a little better at kiting pve mobs.

the axe skill 2 is an interesting skill. it can hit up to 5 mobs at once, twice. it is extremely fast and stacks vulnerability. in addition it has a low cooldown. this skill is best used for building adrenaline. a lot of people use it for damage, don’t. use it to build adrenaline and stack vulnerability. if you are surrounded and have the axe trait then a single use of this skill could potentially give you 2 bars of adrenaline.

i think the warriors weapon sets are in a very good place myself. (with the exception of rifle)

we don’t have a lot of boons tied to our weapons because as warriors we don’t wave our weapons about trying to get effects, we hit people with them.

we don’t have a lot of flashy effects on our weapons because as warriors we use our weapons to kill things, not put on light shows.

simple, brutal, direct, effective.

my advice for your new level 80 warrior (welcome to the club btw) is to get an on swap sigil and put it on one of your weapons. sigil of hydromancy or sigil of geomancy are great.

a lot of people agree that the 15 point trait [fast hands] is practically a must, if you put it on one of your weapons then every time you switch back to that weapon it will be available and proc for you. (basically turning your weapon swap into an attack)

also along that same note. rebind your weapon swap to a comfortable key. warriors are all about swapping weapons, you absolutely cannot get the most out of your warrior without regularly swapping weapons.

a good example of this is a condition warrior, you can hit your target with [pin down] from the longbow for 6 stacks of bleed (18 seconds) roll into them and swap weapons hitting them with [reckless dodge] if you have it and the geomancy proc [3 stacks of bleed 10 seconds) and then swing with your new weapon set for a guaranteed 9 stacks of bleed with a good duration almost instantly.

granted he did do a good job of juggling his opponents, his build had to have been almost pure tank, simply to account for the traits needed for his weapon set.

i think a lot of people have some interesting ideas of about toughness.

let me put it plainly.

less then 2000 armor, don’t stub your toe or you might shatter
2000-2400 armor, pretty squishy
2400-2800 armor, chewy
2800-3200 armor, crunchy
3200-and beyond, just stacking toughness for fun.

i do WvW mainly and i have to say i’ve never had a problem with confusion. even when i get killed by confusion i don’t have any problem with it.

it’s only doubly so for mesmers because most of the mesmer skills that generate confusion are fairly short duration.

if anything i think the nerf on confusion should be reverted a little bit, i like confusion because it forces you to stop and think. suddenly whoever can land the most amount of skills the fastest isn’t suddenly going to be the winner. it takes entire play styles and turns them on their heads, and i believe that not only this game but every game needs things like that.

Newb Warrior needs some knowledge.

as a warrior you should make sure to key bind your weapon swap to something within comfortable reach because you are going to be using it a lot. up close the sigil of hydromancy pretty much guarantees that the shield bash will land which will of course mean your eviscerate will always crit if you chain it right.

the first build is amazing in dungeons and has a lot of spike damage in WvW. but its also a do or die build for WvW so if you don’t win the fight quickly then its easy for you to get kited to death.

the second build is pretty good for small group and solo roaming in WvW. its a lot less fustrating then the first if you plan on doing WvW a lot on your warrior.

a good guild mate of mine mains a necro and she kicks butt in WvW, she doesn’t even like to play necro in Spvp because she says that it’s not sportsmanlike enough. so she instead kicks butt in Spvp with a ranger.

in my guild i’m one of 2 people that mains a warrior, the rest usually either play rangers, mesmer or ele. we regularly run dungeons and have had zero trouble to this day. the only class i see very little of is engineer but engy’s have always been a little rare.

to me it’s all about being creative and inventive. for a while people thought the ele was terrible until someone picked up dagger/dagger and started building for healing power. i say don’t listen to the forum haters and instead build something that they will scream and cry about because you are a little cleverer then them.
