I would say the offender here would be the fact that good AI costs server power, but isn’t AI server-side in GW1 as well?..

(I haven’t played much of GW1, but why does it sound so much better than the sequel in many ways?)

Guild Wars 1 was a superior game in some ways, this is true..but not quite as superior as many of those who are commenting would have you believe…and yes, I was a huge fan of Guild Wars 1, and still find it enjoyable on the rare occasions I log back in. But there are many deficiencies in the game as well, that some people seem to ignore.

Well gw1 was released around 8 yrs ago you would think they would improve upon stuff

Except now a days people want better graphics, which is a resource hog. If you have massive AI scripts, particle effects and huge battles going on all at the same time it doesn’t matter how high end your PC is on max setting it’ll begin to lag/freeze.

Ai scripts are prehaps the biggest cause of lag issues in this instance because the computer is processing so many of them.

What? I can’t tell if you are being serious or not.

Like Vayne said, GW1 was a superior game, I personally feel it was a better game than GW2, it did have its issues sure, but overall it was a far far more enjoyable game, hell it kept me and my friends playing it for 7 years, the same friends who have all abandoned GW2 for other games now because of lack of content, game breaking bugs, and basically being told how to play, and this week the rest of us will move over to FF14 to join our friends,

If GW1 and GW2 where both released at the same time, same GFX etc, GW1 would destroy GW2.

I don’t see how anyone could have any doubt about that. GW1 kept so many of us happy, they didn’t have to use the tricks that GW2 is using to keep people playing. Sure it had it’s issues, but compared to gw2 it was so much better in my opinion. The only reason I still log into GW2 is the hope that at some point they will bring the team from GW1 over and just give them control. Then maybe they can work their magic on this game.

I wish Anet would realize how much they did right with GW1. I spent money there and never once felt bad about it. I would run the same stuff over again in hard mode because for some reason it didn’t feel so bad. The only “grind” was self imposed for a particular look. It had nothing to do with stats because I could get a max stat item so easily.

I, probably like most, realize that looking back on GW1 I see i t better than it probably was. However I know that I stayed happy for a very long time playing it. With GW2 I made it to Christmas before I started looking at other games. I still have hope that this game will change though.

As for the OP I remember seeing this with the Tengu. They would heal each other, and tank, it was great fighting them. There were other examples of course, but I just remember those missions so well.

Who the hell told you this lie? If it was a “friend” you need to punch them right in the nose. Next gem mmo, that’s just laughable. There are some mmos coming that I would say are “next gen” but not this.

Did GW2 manage to revolutionize anything?

Gear grind, or vertical progression if you prefer? Been done to death
Voiced story line, supposedly with personal decisions? Yep, been done
Instanced pve content, world bosses, stat progression, leveling, crafting, gathering? All of it has been done before, and in most cases better.

I don’t… especially day time is pretty empty these days (hours the hardcore ones play).

And yea I am already in my boat watching the ship sink and thinking: What a pitty. But I wont watch long, I’ll set sail to different coasts to try and find exotic new things to satisfy my thirst to proof my ingame skill.

Yeah, wish we could post about other games here. I can understand their reasoning for not allowing it though. Why would they want their players learning about games that are actually fun.

I never saw the movie, but I imagine this is very much what it’s like. I thought it was just a few servers, then did some reading. Lol, wow. I don’t think this is all entirely the bloodlust b/s though. I get the feeling many players were already frustrated, and took this as a reason to jump ship.

I think you guys should sit back and enjoy the show. It’s really funny if you watch what’s happening. Anet’s continuing with their excuse for not working on wvw (the league system “oh we can’t change it for 7 weeks, sorry guys”). Pfft, everyone has seen through that nonsense.

So you guys should stop with the angry letters. They’ve already said they don’t care, and they are going through with it their way. The only way you have to express your opinion is to not log on.

Hacking was not happening on all servers or even all match ups.

That’s a good joke.

At the point where the orbs were removed, there wasn’t a server that wasn’t getting hacked or hacking. It was really, really bad at that point. Invulnerable lord glitches from the hackers, disappearing orbs off map, everyone pointing fingers at everyone else.

I’ve got news for you, the hacking is worse now. I haven’t played wvw in the last two match ups, but according to the matchup threads at least one server is currently just walking over walls, then going invisible. In the ones I did play we had everything from invulnerable flying people, to people walking through the walls/doors.

Nothing has changed on that front, so you can’t say that there are no hackers. So if that hasn’t changed, then they must feel like the “point advantage given to the larger side is bad” is no longer true.

It doesn’t really matter though, WvW is already dead on everything except the t1, and possiblyi some t2. It’s either transfer now, or just suffer through it.

It’s pretty well balanced as I see it, even a single person can cap an area.

Good Luck with that if the the other server has all three bloodlust buffs….. that really DOES take the FAIR out of the Fight.

You have to understand the mindset of some people that like this. If you are one of those huge servers against the weaker ones, this is an awesome change. You get a ton of free stats, and your points padded.

ESO already looks better than gw2 in many ways (based on some of the leaked footage). Can’t wait for it to release.

1. Not every piece of content is for you.

I’m a bit worn out from seeing so many people complain that the content is not easy enough, not casual enough, not long enough, too frequent (wtf?), etc. The world does not revolve around you. There are other players who enjoy other types of content, such as content with a challenge, content that takes coordination and effort.

2. Contrary to popular belief, casual content does not cater to everyone.

As above, some people like a challenge. Some people like fights that require effort to complete and give a sense of achievement when completed. So far most GW2 content has been either casual or super casual and takes very little effort and teamwork to complete. Tequatl Rising has finally begun to fill in this gap of content for those who don’t like everything handed to them. Yes, it may not be for casual players on low population servers, but that doesn’t mean the event needs destroyed by being nerfed or drastically changed.

3. Challenging content that requires teamwork and effort from everyone involved can be fun.

If people would stop whining about challenging content and simply do their research, coordinate, and use teamwork, they would find that content like Tequatl can be a blast. I fought Tequatl for the first time the other day, three tries in a row over several hours, and it was by far the most enjoyment I’ve gotten from PvE in GW2 so far. Yes, we failed all three tries. We had 130~ people in teamspeak with some good commanders, and many people trying very hard to work together and defeat Tequatl together. We know why we failed each time, and we know what we need to improve on. We did not sit there and whine that it was too difficult, we looked forward to the next attempt where we could improve upon our failures. And it was the most fun I’ve had in GW2 PvE in a long time.

4. If you’re the type to say “this is a game, I shouldn’t have to do homework or try hard if I don’t want to”, then this content isn’t for you. Stop complaining and move on.

Again, not all content can cater to everyone. If it’s not for you, get over it and move on.

But for the love of god, don’t ruin it for the rest of us.

As someone from a low/medium pop server, I agree with you. I know the content is not for me, and it honestly doesn’t bother me. I’m glad that Anet put in some content for the hardcore crowd. I wish that every group of players could feel the same. If you see something added for one group, don’t sit there and complain. Accept it, and just think “awesome, those guys got something”.

I’m only worried that Anet is going to see participation drop and in return force players into these events. I’ve never attempted teq, and I have no intention of doing so. Instead of doing stuff like that I farm champions. During the 15 minutes of teq I can get a good amount of champ boxes, and rares, by running a circuit in frost gorge. I’m worried they will try to nerf champion farming in order to force people to do teq. I hope that players can simply accept that the content is for different groups. Teq is for groups that are wanting a huge group challenge, not players that are worried about maximizing their gold per hour. While the same is true of champion farming, we don’t care about titles/miniature drops etc. Different groups should be happy that the others get something.

i realy think its about time you think about kicking guests from said world / said zone when a world event is happening ppl from that world should get priority all i get atm on desolation is overflow that means 1 or 2 things 1 every 1 in deso is on that map so you need to increase the amount of ppl that said map can hold or 2 that its full of guests and these ppl need to be kicked as a member of said world joins.

I think you are ignoring the real problem. The real problem is not “guesting”. It’s creating an event that can only be completed by a certain population amount. Then completely ignoring that the huge majority of the servers don’t have that population. I understand that Anet can’t admit that, it would be similar to them doing server merges, which for some reason is viewed as really bad to the mmo community.

I wish Anet would just offer free transfers for 1 week if you are one of the low pop servers. Right now it’s cheap to move to a low pop servers, but no one is taking advantage of that.

Anyway, you shouldn’t blame the players for wanting to actually complete an event. You should blame Anet for making an event that almost none of them will be able to complete on their home servers. I wish you all luck either way, and I hope when you guys finally kill him he’s worth it.

Those rewards are a bit too high, but I do agree with the idea in general of giving him better rewards. My reward schedule would look more like:

75% Health
1 guaranteed rare
2 exotic boxes
15% chance at an exotic weapon

50% Health
1 guaranteed rare
2 exotic boxes
25% chance at an exotic weapon

25% Health
2 guaranteed rares
35% chance at an exotic weapon
4 exotic boxes

0%, You successfully downed him.
6 rares and 2 guaranteed exotic weapons
6 exotic boxes
50% chance for an additional exotic weapon
15% chance for an ascended weapon
7.5% chance for a Tequatl ascended weapon

You don’t understand

Its not that high, its like 2.5% to get what you want.

In time, people will be downing him regularly. You don’t want to make ascended crafting invalidated.

What good is having a flashy weapon if there is no one to show it off to? Anet has until November to change things. I put aside 100$ a month for my gaming each month, my fiance does the same. Once November hits I already know how I will be spending it. This month alone I’ve only spent 30$ with Anet, the other went mostly to league for their new bundles.

If you really think I’m the only guy like that you are wrong. The people who spend their money are going to make choices.

Btw people don’t take my post as me asking to nerf anything. I’m not, quite honestly I simply don’t care one way or the other about Teq. The stuff I do care about Anet has already said they don’t, that and them punishing the one dev willing to actually communicate with the players helped me make my decision. There are plenty of others around though that will have to make their decision.

I can’t wait until all bosses get reworked.

If players quit this game because of the difficulty increase of “endgame” content then shame on them.

Some players wanted raids. Some players wanted more interaction on boss fights. Tequatl is now basically an open world Raid. Should it be this difficult? Yes. Should there be a timer? No. The cost for death is good enough for this boss encounter.

I believe Anet is on the right track here. Tequatl is not perfect, but hey its an online game and there are things called patches.

You have the audacity to say shame on someone else over PvE content. That’s hilarious, but I have a better idea. How about you step into a place that actually takes skill to win. PvP was supposed to be the end game of GW2. They couldn’t do that because that actually required skill. The PvE crowd didn’t want to have to fight something that wasn’t scripted. They didn’t like getting trashed /laughed at because they had no skill. So instead we get another empty boss fight where the only skill is in “throw more numbers at it”.

Thank you for the duel. I get your point, but I just think shaming people for leaving over pve is silly. PvP is the only thing in the game about skill. All of the rest is just about more health, more damage. WvW is the same as PvE. They allow ascended weapons and such there in order to compensate the pve crowds. They could have balanced it by using the spvp method, but didn’t want to.

Sorry if I came off rude. Was great talking to you. That’s one reason I like mmos, meeting random people and then just talking. It was fun. thanks again, and sorry if I was a kitten. I should have explained my reasoning better, and not been so quick to be a jerk.

Having 50 people come over to help isn’t them doing it considering the other 100 of us at the site anyway. But for a small pop server, it’s beneficial considering all the people interested now know how to do it. So we can do it again. Anyway when did this become a competition? It’s about the community getting together to kill a boss

well what really annoys me since i am main mesmer is that (i will now call them not so high skilled mesmers)..they go to wvw fight people that are not even rank 80 and/or dont have equipment as good as him in 1vs5 and put it on youtube as a montage..
because in spvp everbody kinda has the same chances because you almost have the same stats
but in wvw its so different even tho you are rank 80 u deal almost no dmg if you are not max equipped and the enemy is..

That’s the reason so many look down on WvW. It’s also the reason Anet won’t try for real balance there. The gear discrepancy helps pve players overcome the skill discrepancy. You might be better but when they are doing 10% more damage every attack, and taking less from you it adds up. It gives the pve players a false sense of skill. Of course then they go into actual pvp and lose. They stop playing it, hence the extremely low pop there.

I will tell you what is happening. People on high population servers have no issues. People on low/mid population servers have no chance unless we get help.

It’s already been pointed out to you guys enough, there are no low pop servers. There is only high, and very high. So stop posting such nonsense, we all know every server has queues on every map. You can lie and say it’s not true, but no one will believe you because we can all guest to bg/tc and see there are people playing the game.

Your math is incorrect. Adding 8% chance to crit on a PVT build will still increase the dps by the factor I indicated. It will still be an increase on a condi build as their pitiful direct damage would be increased by the same factor.

And who cares about condi builds and PVT? This is a thread about pve min maxing, not a voyage to scrub city.

15% crit damage with 0% chance to crit is effectively 0% DPS.

You don’t understand. Critical hits have a base 50% damage bonus with 0 points invested in critical damage. A build with 0% chance to crit and 50% critical damage will see the increased dps I indicated if their stats are changed to 8% and 65%.

Did some calculations using those stats.

Let’s say you deal 100 base damage with PVT.

So 1(100) + 0(150) = 100 base damage.

Now let’s add 8% crit chance and 15% crit damage.

0.92(100) + 0.08(165) = 105.2

That is 5.2% DPS gained, which is less than what you’d gain from banner of strength. Now add in the fact that it’d be 0% DPS gained vs certain bosses and all siege equipment, then banner of strength is a no-brainer for PVT and condi builds.

Well to most of them there is no other build other than zerker. Then they QQ in map chat, and post on the forums that people won’t res them. WP back and stop complaining. On things like teq zerker builds are a waste of space. Same with the only other challenging content (pvp).

This isn’t a very well thought out argument. See you make the mistake of assuming you know what a “challenge” is to everyone. You do not. Perhaps for some people having 1000 gold is a challenge, perhaps for some people gathering a certain material is a challenge, others view getting a legendary without paying real money is a challenge. Hell playing gw2 and having fun seems to be a common enough challenge for plenty of people recently.

Let’s assume you view getting a precursor as a challenge, then doing this event isn’t nearly as efficient as doing champion farms.

According to most people here there are no low pop servers. It’s cute, but the implication that people have stopped playing is good way to find yourself brutally attacked.

It’s 25% (or less) because I’ve got three Dragon Chests today (one is given at 75%, 50%, and 25%).

If that’s true then it just proves that both the target, and the meter on the right is inaccurate. I don’t doubt this at all considering how we found out the bar for necromancers wasn’t accurate.

No One, and here’s a prediction. If no server has managed it by the end of this weekend, it will never be completed in its current state outside of the Anet offices.

We’ve just experienced a release (SAB 2) that clearly shows that players very quickly lose interest in content that they deem too time difficult or time consuming, The Aether dungeon was deserted after a few days for the same reason and now we have an event that is not only very difficult, but can only be completed if large numbers of players are in attendance and working as a team.

By Monday, I will be surprised if more than 10 people are showing up at peak times to attempt this and a major nerf will inevitably have to follow to try and tempt players back.

Pretty much this. Only three ways it will happen.
1) Major nerf
or
2) Completely abandoned.
The mostly likely event is
3) They will just nerf it but not announce it. That would allow them to not lose respect to the “hard core crowd”, while allowing the majority of players to do the content. Sure people might think it’s been nerfed, but with no announcement there shouldn’t be much of an argument.

It will be fun to see which one happens.

I agree with this. People need to stop begging for some kind of nerf. If you don’t want to do him, or if you can’t, so what. Personally I have no intention of ever trying him. Once they made him gated on population that ruined it for me. I’m not on here asking for a nerf or something though. I hope they keep him exactly the way he is. Leave him that way for the people actually interested in doing him.

If your argument is “well then there won’t be enough people to do him”, good. Then Anet will get the message when no one does him. Either way there is no reason to nerf him, and people need to stop complaining about it.

@Shinoobi: I highly recommend to NOT take the Longbow trait (number IV on 4th line). As you can read on the Wiki, it has a bug since long time ago: you get more range , all of your arrows become 100% combo finishers (not written in trait tooltip) BUT you lose ~10% damage on auto-attack. However Smoldering Arrows (skill #4) gets double damage.

That is the entire reason condi specs take it. The combo finisher from within your fire field is really good. If they want what you have, they have to come to you to get it. If they are consistently burning the entire time it makes them rush you (probably what you want), or it makes them back off (you win).

It works really well for condi bunker specs. You plant yourself on a node, or camp in wvw, and then they have to come to you. Pin Down gives you bleeding/cripple, and then you cover with spam burning. If they poke back healing up isn’t much of an issue.

That’s what I have been running to bunker with mostly. It’s not the best, but it seems to work well in the usual 1v1s I end up in. That’s my (pve) setup for wvw. Passive regen from hs/adh, actual regen from banners, I change out the signet of course, o.k. condi damage. I can hold out and win against 2/3 people. More than that and they kill me too fast for me to regen though. I think that’s the right build, will check it after posting.

That’s fine in the short term, but eventually most of us would like to have the best gear, at least for our main weapons. Sword, focus, maybe even greatsword, and of course the aquatics, I can live without; the rest, though, are almost necessary. I main with a staff. I switch off to either hammer, mace/shield, or mace/torch. In WvW, I often run scepter/shield, especially in sieges. The boost of the weapon itself plus the infusion can mean a lot of difference. Too bad Anet decided to turn it into a massive money sink.

In an average few hours of play I usually use scepter,focus,shield,gs,1hs,hammer,staff. The thing about professions like Guardian, and the very few others that switch often, is that it’s kind of part of the profession. Most of them use the same main/offhand all of the time. With my warrior I never switch. I can’t remember the last time I switched other than when I got bored the other day and equiped…a rifle instead of a lb. Otherwise it’s the exact same weapons every day. I’ve almost never found myself on my warrior going “wow I wish I had a third, or fourth, weapon setup”. While on my guardian about every 20 minutes I’m thinking “kitten I wish I had a fourth, fifth, or sixth weapon setup”.

Though I am a big proponent of the idea that you should use what is most effective for the situation.

In LoL which has good pvp there are very few Dots. GW2 could have learned something here.

LoL got so much right when it comes to combat. If gw2 would have let condi damage, crit damage, etc scale off of base power they could have avoided the entire stat issue to begin with. Some people will argue that it would have made GW2 too simple, but that would have freed them up to add in the complexity into other areas.

I enjoy games that have good scaling, because it lets you make adjustments to the system without throwing it completely out of control.

For an example assume that bleeding now deals 5% of your power per stack. Oh wait, guys bleeding damage is too powerful. Now instead of having to go through and nerf a variety of things, they simply reduce the ratio to .045 or .04. Yes it’s a somewhat simpler system for stats, but it lets you adjust things. It also frees up build variety. Instead of having to have a set of gear for condi damage, and one for power damage etc you can have one or two sets that cover a variety of different builds.

For a LoL example you have ADs that generally build 4 similar items, the other two items can be changed depending on the ad. So if you imagine the 4 similar items being gear, then the other 2 become different traits. Though LoL has that too where you can set your masteries/runes and then build to augment your deficiencies. It’s like running a support mastery vlad, then for my runes I go with 4% spell vamp, ap, mpen, and then hp/level yellows vs some opponents. I can switch the masteries/runes though depending on who I’m facing. LoL for all of the simplicity behind certain things, has some very complicated things built into it. Those are not part of the game so to speak, the complexity comes with the actual game play. How you build to augment your strengths, and cover your weaknesses. Then the game changes based on each opponent. Then there is the fact that dots in this game are effectively true damage, and there is a reason that is used very sparingly. Once you remove an opponents ability to defend against something you’ve removed counter play from the entire engagement.

Sorry that’s a lot of text, I’ve played LoL since season 1 though. I’ve been with LoL through so many changes, but what I’ve put above is something I really appreciate about the game.

Are you looking at this for pvp, or pve. I use assassins in wvw for a specific build. If it’s PvE, then yeah whatever you want works I guess. If it’s wvw you can actually make the procs as mentioned by Guanglai Kangyi work for you.

That’s a bit more involved though, and if you are going for a crit wvw build unless you just like guardian you are better off going with a warrior. Compare the difference below in the two setups.

They are completely the same, no traits, same exact gear. The difference is a huge amount of base health, along with a huge amount of ehp.

Somehow watching your bottom bar and removing conditions is now skilled play.

Conditions are supposed to be slow damage so the builds that use conditions have been given survivability in their design and gearing.

Quite simply so many can be stacked on so quickly, that they are now fast damage, yet the buids still have survivability.

And that is what is wrong with the meta.

As a Guardian if I spec survivability, my damage is really poor. But a lot of classes can spec surivivability and do quite high damage with conditions. There is very little trade off.

So they can either make it harder to stack up that much damage or make the condition spammers squishy. They won’t do either…. for a while at least.

I think it’s less that they “won’t do either”, and more that they “can’t do either”.

To me, and I’m well aware my opinion means very little, it’s a problem with the core game. The three stat armor system they have is incredibly flawed. That and they launched the game with flaws that make balance almost impossible. Having different professions with different base health, yet allowing those professions to build in similar fashions creates issues.

Jax I think you’ve made a good point. Maybe they have some sweeping changes in mind for the future. I don’t see how they can possibly implement anything with the current system though. It would require complete overhauls of so much, not the least of which would be huge splits between pve/pvp in skills, condition durations/damage, systems, gear etc. So much would have to be changes, I just don’t think it’s possible this late in the game. The most likely result will be bandaid fixes that will only make things worse in the long run.

Generally any rune that offers a % damage increase on the 6th slot if a certain boon is active is broken ( and has always been broken to my knowledge ).
ie. Rune of Strength ( +5% damage when you have Might ), Rune of Rage ( +5% damage when you have Fury )

This, I’ve posted a thread about it…but that went missing after getting moved to the website bug subforum (what??).

The best we can hope for is that it gets fixed eventually, but that’s unlikely.

To the other poster above, of course I realize that it’s not easy to fix the bugs. My opinion is that the programmers on this game are already over worked. Anet likely puts far more people into marketing, coming up with black lion stuff, and very little into the actual programming. It ends up with the guys who do the hard work putting in 90 hours a week for very little reward. I have tons of sympathy for those guys. If I could ask anyone at Anet it would be them, because they are the ones that can give real answers. Community reps, and “head developers” can say whatever people want. The guys back there working their butts off are the ones that could say .

Anyway since this has been moved here, I guess the best answer is that about a possible overhaul.

I’m not referring to anyone in particular, just my attempt at humor.

I studied simple programming long, long ago. Back in the Dark Ages when computer monitors consisted of a black screen and a blinking white light, and typing the wrong thing got you a response like “Syntax Error.” There were no mice or hard drives and we stored programs on disks the size of dinner plates. Windows was something you looked out of when you were wishing you were somewhere else.

They don’t announce they will fix a bug because they can’t. They announce after a bug has been fixed because in order to fix it you have to find it first. If they haven’t found it yet they have no idea how long it will take to find it and if they have already found it then the bug has been fixed and so they don’t need to announce they intend to fix it.

The bugs in simple programs like a database or a program to move a box around the monitor screen drove me crazy. Fixing bugs in something as complex as an MMO is like repairing a jet engine while the plane is in flight. The amazing thing is not how long it takes to fix a bug but that they get fixed at all! And the next update breaks a dozen more things.

If you haven’t done it, you can’t understand what it involves. Imagine being shown an entire wing of a library – hundreds or thousands of books, and being told that there is a typo in one of those books. Find it and correct it. By next Tuesday.

You guys really assumed that I don’t know anything about programming. How odd, I would have asked before making the assumption.

I started out with BASIC. qb/gwb being my first real programming. From there I spread out to C, C++, (worked with several IDEs, usually use notepad++), database work etc.

This isn’t some kitten size contest though. I’m not here to say I’m better than you at this. I do realize the difficulty in tracking a bug of course. I will say that if I were at a job and I was told “there is a bug”, but instead of addressing it I replied “sure, but I’m going to add new stuff first” I probably wouldn’t have a job long. Anyway the point of the thread was to get some information. Someone mentioned the lyssa rune, so maybe they will at least fix that. The reason I even asked about this to begin with is because I saw they were thinking about adding new sigils. I thought surely they wouldn’t add new stuff without fixing the broken ones first. I’m a bit stupid about some things though.

Contrary to what people might think, I would rather this not turn into some argument. The reality is none of us will ever know if they haven’t fixed them because of money, or it’s too hard, or they don’t care, or any of a number of reasons. We all have our own feelings about it. It aggravates me, because I would really like to use some of those runes. If anyone sees anything please post it though. thank you.

I don’t care why they aren’t fixed, just curious if anyone has any info on if anything has been announced by them.

I don’t really keep up that much with Anets announcements on twitter, or events. So I’m just going to ask those more knowledgeable than myself if Anet has announced any plans to actually fix the currently broken runes?

For those that don’t know there are several runes, and I think a few sigils, that have broken effects that don’t work. Some work, but not in the way listed.

I can’t give you calculations, but I’ll put it this way.

Assassin = more crit hits, less crit damage done (less Power, more crit chance)
Berserker = less crit hits, more crit damage done (more Power, less crit chance)

Dependent on your build setup of course, but the way I see it these two stats more or less equal the same damage output overall.

The exception probably comes in if you can build some additional things off crit. Like the guardian aoe might on crit. So the might can make up for the assassins loss in power. However because it has an icd of 1 second, attacking twice a second means that roughly 50% crit chance is all you need to properly take advantage of it.

And I wholeheartedly agree with the (potential) prot on dodge change. Remember that it applies the prot to us as well, so most of that prot was wasted during our dodge leaving us with less than a second of usable protection. If we want it to help our pet, then we need to dodge a tad bit earlier now. So I don’t see that one as a nerf, but as a buff.

What people don’t seem to get was that the protection was more for the pet than the ranger. The pet is incapable of dodging. So I would dodge when something big was about to happen. I avoid all damage and hopefully keep my pet up. Now if I dodge early just to get protection sure it works for the pet, but now I’m also taking damage.

This will depend on the context as well.

If it’s WvW, then you may just have to let them run. It can be frustrating not to kill them, but they’re likely not contributing anything to their server and are simply a waste of space. If they decided to stay and fight instead of run away all the time, they would just die. That’s why they run away.

If it’s in sPvP, then it’s good that they run away. If they run away, they won’t be pressuring any nodes, which helps your team to succeed.

Things will always be unbalanced in WvW due to the nature of the gameplay, but that’s probably why most balance decisions don’t seem to be WvW-centric.

I see where you’re coming from but I’m going to respectfully disagree. I’m always changing builds in sPvP, and I have run a tough GS/sword+warhorn build. On many occasions I’d troll a couple of people, and run away just about fast enough that I’d avoid their main damage, but slow enough so they’d bother to still chase me in the hope they’d get their glory kill. Even though in terms of points I was gaining was 0, if I had more than 1 person chasing me, I counted that as me helping my team (2 people taken out of action to hunt down just me therefore more of my team to maintain pressure on nodes). You’d think people wouldn’t be stupid enough to follow, but they did, MOST of the time :P

I’m glad you can justify yourself based on limited play with others as bad as yourself. Congratulations for proving a point.

Well there have been some interesting suggestions put forward. Remove a condition when you cause burning, Flat condi duration trait, what else reducing current condi duration by a percent when you crit, buffing smite condi to remove more than one conditions if one of the three meditation traits are taken etc.

There are plenty of good suggestions, but I honestly don’t think any of them will get implemented. I also don’t think they address the basic problem that the condi meta was built around. It’s simple ease of stat allocation.

Take condi bunker, you need either condi damage/toughness/vitality/healing power. Just 3 of the 4, there are gear sets that work with all of those. Now compare it what a guardian needs to survive. We need power, precision, crit damage, and vitality. Now that’s not even assuming we regen much at all. Condi bunker specs get so much more from limited stats.

I suppose they could just replace crit damage with scaling from power, but that won’t happen. The most likely conclusion is that Anet simply doesn’t know a way out of the current situation without major nerfs.

Bottom Line.

Problem there is you are wanting boons on condi damage. While most of the time the condi damage is coming from professions you don’t really want boons against. It’s just one more thing for them to steal, convert, or purge at your expense.

Now if they had something that wasn’t a boon that would be different.

For wvw I like to run 0-10-30-30-0 staff/gs armor: PVT/sentinel + celestial jewlery +pvt backpack., knight weapons. Sigil of generosity on staff, bloodlust in gt ; sigil of energy after 25stacks. Around 21k hp with wvw buff, 3k atk with 25 stacks, 3.1k armor , around 60% crit dmg, 30% crit chance. 45% boon duration.

You should have constant vigor up all the time anyway. I guess it doesn’t matter, it sounds like most of these are for very low level play in wvw. Pretty much anything goes there because everyone has already transferred up. So just go with whatever is fun. Just don’t expect to make videos, or awesome screens like us (that’s a bit of a joke btw).

Sigil of Generosity is really underestimated by most people. It IS expensive. However if there is anything I’m willing to shell out that much gold on it would be that one sigil. It’s done so much work when fighting other people. I’ve even switched to using nothing but that in the few times I do PvE. With 50% crit chance, and the low icd of it, you won’t have conditions on you long. The only downside is that it’s not available in spvp. With the sword AA though it’s almost guaranteed that if you have a condition it will get transferred as soon as the icd is up.
