So far no confirmation about Empowered Allies being bumped up a tier. Here’s hoping it stays where it is. Else they’d kitten me for a second time.

The leaks were pretty much accurate so far compared to official stuff. I think people should go ahead and plan around those leaks being 100% accurate.

So to answer your question: It feels like trying really hard at school, doing your best to have a future, and then getting punished by your parents every single day because you dont drink enough beer and dont smoke enough weed.

You see normally I would ask if you are on drugs. Anet’s kind of getting mad at anyone that speaks out on these forums, hell they get mad at their own devs for it. So I’m just going to say you should learn to play.

OP if the war is running away he’s just as useless as a stealth thief. That is to say he an do absolutely nothing. Just ignore him, unless you feel his running away is somehow threatening to you.

Well i wish his running would make him useless heres aa example on why it needs to be taken care of.

3 v 3 we focused the hammer war first. got him to 20% he pulled out gs, ran from the fight. (nothing we could do) he sprinted about 3000 units away after whirlwinding twice and charging once. so we focus the other 2.

He jumps back into the fight after resetting his hp and managed to down one person which we revived. We kept fighting, thief used sr. Two stealthed war was visible, we focus the war to about 20% again.

He sprints away, we chased alittle bit no one had mobility to match it. He resets hp. We focus the other 2, now ignoring the war who was doing insanely high damage. Kill the other 2.

Guess what the war does after we beat his team mates? You got it. He ran away. nothing we can do to stop it. We even had a kitten good thief, who had his teleports and basilisk venom, i used signet of earth in place of mist form. Nothing worked, war still got away.

Btw in reality that fight was 6v3 but i dont count the uplevels who dropped like flies.

Then you won, what does it matter if he ran away. That is all that matters. Either you successfully defended the objective, or you did not. If you did not then his escapes don’t matter. If you did, then his escapes don’t matter. At no point in that does it matter that he escaped. If you are defending a node/camp whatever and you fight a thief. He goes into stealth, then runs away. Congratulations, you won. He goes into stealth, then regenerates. You do the same and repeat the fight. Congratulations you won. It’s the same with any escape mechanics, it’s an escape mechanic. Once they use it, you’ve already won.

That’s a big problem with uncoordinated groups in wvw. They chase people instead of paying attention to what’s important. Defending, or taking, the objective.

Finally, in reply to GSSBlunaspike.4153, your completely incompetant. You should stop playing this game. You play a thief because you can go invisible and do massive damage, with your backstab and then 2,2,2,2,2. Then you can stomp your enemy while stealthed, so no-one knows you’re actually doing it. If you fail however, you don’t even have to run away, you just hide, even if you’re in the most open battlefield, you just go stealth and no-one knows where you are. No-one in the game has that luxury except for thieves, it’s the easiest class to survive with in WvW and that’s why you and 90% of other thief players use the class. Oh, not to mention, you’re the only class in the game that has no cooldown on your weapon skills, LOL. So you can spam heartseeker about 6 times in a row, even though I can only evade twice, and you don’t need to aim it, it just auto-targets. The class was literally MADE for people that have absolutely 0 skill level. Like I mentioned in a previous post, the second class I ever got to level 80 was a thief because I was mostly having trouble with them, I fully understand how a thief works, and I don’t play mine because the game is boring when I do. I simply don’t die, and there’s no chance of me dying. Un-install this game please.

First it’s you’re. Normally I wouldn’t point out mistakes like that, but this one is particularly annoying to me.

Second, what the hell are you talking about. My “mains” are warrior, and guardian. I occasionally play ranger. Notice the trend? I play bunker classes, and I prefer condi bunker specs. None of those are a thief, if you had taken even a slight moment to consider what I wrote above you would have arrived at the same conclusion. If you lose to a thief, you are doing it wrong. It’s that simple, and I really don’t care if that offends you. Perhaps learn to play better? If a thief goes into stealth what danger are they?

And if a warrior is running from you he is NO THREAT as well, you can see him and you can attack at range.

I agree with you completely. If the warrior is running away, then you’ve done your job. You have successfully defended the objective. Who cares if you don’t get the kill for it. It’s like any profession that uses escape mechanics. Never complain about them, because if that class is using it’s escape mechanics it’s because you have won.

hey guys could i get a bit of feedback on this? i went for well-rounded stats and a more offensive build. with food:

1950 power
49% crit
81% crit damage
1568 toughness (+150 with trait)
16.2k life

combo of valk, knights and zerker stats. if i wanna be tankier, i would swap valk gear with PVT + soldier runes. Retreat is there for extra for extra AHEM heals, but i could swap it out for save yourselves.

You expect to be a front line diver with that? I’m not trying to be offensive, I have no idea what server you play on so I have no idea what your wvw community is like. If you dive into a zerg with that I would say you could survive about 4 seconds, maybe 6 if you get lucky.

The reality is diving into a zerg is a freaking art form. Charging 50 guys hell bent on killing you, and then walking away from it isn’t easy (unless you are a warrior/necro).

I’m curious why you suddenly want to switch to doing damage though. If you are tanking fine, just keep going with what you have.

My Stats are roughly as follows:

Power: 2800
Precision: 1900
Toughness: 1600
Crit damage: 105%
Crit rate: 58%
HP: 13800

and I bounce in and out of zergs with no problem at all so going for more damage is fine cause it’s nice to be able to hit someone for a substantial amount instead of feeling like you’re a mosquito in heavy armour.

What server are you on? I understand that any of the league 2 servers you can do whatever you want on. You could probably roll in there naked. It’s pretty much PvE on those.

i think when playing in PvP/WvW, the torch has its place. i’ll run around with it in PvE to rack up weapon master kills right now but peobably wouldn’t take it into dungeons or fractals.

i WILL say though, it has amazing burst potential. pair it up with focus, time it and followed by a well executed mace 3 and you can do amazing burst on one target, the lucky one that gets hit by torch 4, as well as AoE burst, pretty much at the same time.

That was a pain in the kitten to finish.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Instead of talking, try listening more. You’ve been given advice, yet you refuse to take it. That isn’t anyone’s fault but your own. Necros are far from unbeatable. Maybe you can’t beat them the way you are setup, good. That means things are working. It’s when you find builds that do well against everyone that you’ve run into a problem. No build should be good against everything. Necros have their weaknesses, and you are able to exploit those with a warrior. Just because you choose not to is no one’s fault but your own.

Is it worth it to roll a banner warrior PvE?

I use mine to solo champs easily. 10/30/30 sw/sw lb just throw down a banner and afk. Hit f repeat. It’s not very fast, but it’s really easy to do. Gotta find something to do since wvw is not going to be possible soon.

You found the weakest champ in the game apparently.

Yeah it was that golem champ outside of the fire ele. But it’s my pvp build, and I don’t really want to change it. Run a mix of apoth/dire. So he can’t kill me. Turn 1 on auto and just come back. If I feel fancy I will switch to lb and aoe fire.

Anything works in PvE. If you really have to have sustain then do 20/0/0/30/20.

You can’t really sustain as well with power builds as you can with condi bunker builds. The stat allocation is different. I only need to worry about 3 stats at a time. That’s one of the great things about warrior, naturally really high hp means I can ignore vitality. I go with toughness, healing power, and condi damage. Duration is already taken care of, go with 24k health, 3.5k armor, around 1500 condi damage. It’s not huge, but it doesn’t have to be. The regen from banner, healing signet, adrenal health is already so high. In wvw with food I can easily go 1v3. I started building this way for spvp bunker/dueling though. I can switch it for 20/20/30 if I want to use a rifle instead of lb. it’s got versatility. It’s slow killing, but I’m not playing my warrior for exciting game play. I’m playing him because he’s just the safest while still doing great damage.

That’s what was said in the past about eles. Don’t bother chasing them. But look at all the nerfs that happened. It probably will get nerfed at some point due to people whining just like what happened with the elementalist, which is a joke of a class now that isn’t even worth playing anymore. I’m just going to enjoy the mobility while I can until the whining inevitably gets it nerfed like it always does since anet loves to cater to the whiners and destroy things that there isn’t anything wrong with in the first place.

I’m not saying it’s ok that warriors can do what everyone was whining about in the past that eles could do. I don’t think it’s the least bit fair. They nerf one class but leave another alone for doing the same thing, and being better at it. I’d rather have them buff the weaker classes than nerf warrior. slow classes are boring to play as.

Actually if the leaked notes are real it’s getting a slight buff.

wow one of these days im going to transfer over to NA for spvp duels to see all these hero forum warriors in action who go “l2p” all the time.. “l2p” = 100% NA player.

I have not read the entire discussion so far… But the title of this thread alone is dumb enough. People should have a goal to strive for in a video game. When they work for something, they should be rewarded. If you are complaining about someone else having higher stats than you, then maybe you should just go play the game! If you can’t grind what you need, then figure out how to play the market and make the money to buy your way to your weapon. Did mommy and daddy never reward you for work as a child, or were you just spoiled?

My parents rewarded me for doing chores by letting me eat and sleep under their roof, and reminded me so every night. I didn’t get ‘rewards’ until I was old enough to help the neighbor build a fence around his pool, and then my reward was the money he payed me in exchange for my labor.

The ‘striving’ needed for ascended gear is a pansy version of striving. Do some farming and some crafting. Real striving comes in the form of improving your reaction times, your recognition of animations, your timing on skills, and your choices in a fight.

Although if the Sacrx is correct, then 100% of the game was geared around casual play and this conversation is useless in the context of trying to make it more hardcore.

So best of luck to you guys, I hope it’s becomes the game you want.

Let’s be honest. A game has to have vertical progression or people will get bored because they have nothing else to strive for. And as human beings we need things to strive for. Can’t do anything about human nature.

Because the most popular queue on LoL has no progression at all. Neither does the second, or third most popular queue. In fact unless you do ranked there is no progression in that fashion. There are things you can purchase that add a similar customization, but those are gated around learning the game. It’s possible for a person to go from level 1 to level 30 and never experience playing with another player. Further as pointed out by a few pros, some unintentionally in professional tournaments, it’s possible to do well with absolutely none of those things (we all remember silsol beating dyrus with no runes lol)

You don’t chase them. It’s that simple. The warrior has to have some mechanic to stay alive, we don’t have stealth, pets, minions, clones, turrets or spirit weapons. In fact we have nothing but our battle hardened bodies to take us through the fight, to survive. Thieves have stealth, thieves guild, shortbow teleportation and shadowstep on multiple weapons. The class is completely broken and should be banned from the game, given the amount of thieves there are due to the fact that people cannot pvp so they a go a class that can remain hidden for over 50% of the fight.

Thieves also have paper armor, half the hp, and a variety of other weaknesses. If you ever lose to a thief delete your warrior.

Yeah pretty much the same as how do I chase a perma stealth D/P thief? I don’t. They can remain perma stealth and attack me whenever they want or withdraw whenever they want. If I can see their that type of thief I don’t bother.

Why? Because their stealth mechanic is stupidly broken, and shouldn’t exist in the game.

First if they are in stealth they are absolutely NO THREAT. They can’t cap anything stealthed, all they can do is run away like little kittenes.

Second they have got stealth because the game is absurdely broken on balance. Certain professions have the ability to have really high health while being able to spec for an equivalent amount of damage as other professions that have horrible health and have to use gimmicks to get the same damage. If the game had everyone with the same base health and then depending on gear/spec, it might be different. Claiming a profession that has lower health, lower mitigation, and only one useful escape mechanic is OP is just a sign of a very low skilled player.

2)They’ve already said they aren’t going to do that
3)People don’t WvW for rewards, they do it for the fun of the match setup. Playing WvW is a quick way to going broke. You pay to upgrade just to lose all of that money when your side doesn’t have adequate coverage. In the same hour you spend in WvW you could have made 10+g pressing 1 repeatedly in PvE.

Aside from that you say the stats aren’t that much difference. It’s a 5% increase to both damage, and stats over exotic. That’s pretty big.

1)care to point out? Level downscale is different from gear downscale.
3)Look at the forum(WvW) .Half of it is about loot and reward.
PS:when your side get rolled often and lose every keep, tower in the map, nobody pay for upgrade. Bad fact but true.

crit damage is the exception it increases by over 5%.

No. I do see people that work by the hour in your future though =P. Your implication is that it’s some mystical ability. The reality is that it’s based on simple logic, and a tiny bit of understanding why people do the things they do.

Some base observations. Remember that the term people is plural. Individuals might be different, but people generally follow the same patterns.

- People follow the path of least resistance. They want what offers the most reward with the least effort
- People further want the greatest reward in the least amount of time, with respect to the first one listed.

The problem that people are pointing out is that you are welcome to create a “challenge” on the individual, or small group, scale. There will be individuals, or small groups of individuals, that are willing to break away from those. Once you start requiring large amounts of people though, you increase the amount you need that are willing to break with the above.

Some base observations. People get incredibly kitten and have to take a joke seriously.

I don’t think that would apply here. It would depend on the joke. Some people might “get it”, some might not. In text it’s hard to figure out what is joking. I think the idea behind a base observation is to make a general observation, and then build upon it.

Doing so would invalidate the time people spend acquiring that gear. I think the heart of your post is in the right place, but what we would rather do is make possible for people to get the gear by playing WvW with a sprinkling of PvE, rather than the other way around.

Did any GW1 players feel “invalidated” because their high end armor (chaos gloves, obsidian armor, rare weapons, etc) did not give them an advantage over other players who didn’t want to spend their time acquiring such items? No. That was part of what made GW1 great.

Comparing this game to GW1 is an insult to GW1. That game managed to keep people playing for years without having this constant living story stuff. It managed to keep people interested without having to resort to the gimmicks gw2 has. It somehow managed to do things that GW2 seems incapable of doing (separation of pve/pvp skills etc).

I see this a compromise for the large number of people who dont want ascended gear in the game. Make it pve only.

Anet will lose people with their current implimentation while trying to please the grinders…so why not do both. I doubt any of the pve grinders play wvw anyway.

Yes: 36 (56%)

No: 28 (44%)

That would make things more fair, but that isn’t the intent of WvW according to them.

Anyway, it doesn’t matter. Devon already said that he doesn’t want to invalidate PvE farmers’ PvE farming. I know where WvW stands. Right at the bottom

Yeah, that’s been pretty obvious for awhile now. It’s taken some time for most people to realize it though. I think people had this “idea” of what WvW was supposed to be like based on things Anet has said in the past. Around Christmas most of us realized that it was complete crap though. Right now I see GW2 as something to just hold my interest until the better games are released in the upcoming months.

Reasons:
1)Downscale takes programming time, testing takes time as well. We may even get bugged ascended that one hit people after they are “downscaled”.
2)It is better for dev to spend more time solving the zerging , lower number= getting spawn-camped and blow-out than doing stupid thing like this.
3)Game is about getting reward and having fun. Take away the reward and you think anyone will wvw?

I think some of you are under the impression that 40-80 players will all group up and do these bosses just for the challenge of it. I’m afraid the reality of the situation is quite a bit different. People did ask for the orr temples to be made harder. What happened there?

Challenge is fine to talk about theoretically, but challenge isn’t what most players are looking for. A reward is what most players are looking for. It’s all just speculation now, but if the reward doesn’t meet the expectation this will be just another ignored event. If that happens I don’t expect Anet to change anything. They will likely keep it, and it will only hurt the players that would actually like to see these events completed.

Give big reward for winning and nothing for losing,you will see all players work together and lot of rage if it fails xD

The problem with this is that the very ones you would want to attract to this simply won’t come unless the reward is huge. Consider that in 15 minutes time span with proper farming you are looking at a few gold at least. The rewards would have to at least be worth the same as champion farms, or the drop rates high enough on his special gear. Otherwise people will rush for the meta the first week. People skip out on several of them with the diffiulty they are at now. If you increase the difficulty without some significant changes in loot it will just add more that are being ignored. Today I’ve soloed golem m2, and he’s easy. Simply put people want money in order to get things they enjoy. That’s pretty easy to understand for everyone I think. Now it just becomes which way makes the most money. It’s all fine as long as the bosses scale for small groups too. If there is a minimum of 10 put on them though then several world bosses will never be completed by the majority of the servers.

Go check that sometime. Even at prime time there are some that just aren’t done. Either because of the difficulty, time, or a combination of the two. I’ve seen people now just skipping everything except sb/maw/shatt. Anything that has a built in wait time though just isn’t worth it.

My point is that as long as they make the events so that they scale for small groups it will be fine. If they don’t give it a low minimum though people are going to have to transfer/guest just to do those.

Errrr, really? More often than not, i see 60+ people zerging world bosses. It’s even more apparent now that culling is gone. I’ve never once seen only 15 people doing a world boss, though i usually only log in during the evenings.

I know it’s like that on some servers. I have to guest to tc/bg etc. There are a few that you can guest to. The good thing is we won’t have to worry about overflow. I just wish they would go with a better form of scaling that could support a minimum of 5 and then whatever as the max.

My point was that on many servers, I would guess everything except the top 5, it’s going to be MUCH harder to get a group of that size together. To be honest the only way I (on Borlis Pass) will ever get to complete this is through guesting. I know that someone will come to this thread saying “no, we have 50+ doing every event”. Those people are incapable of providing any screens of this magical army, and when I post screens showing the exact opposite it’s because culling is somehow on super high or some other excuse. I know it bothers people to admit, but without server mergers most of the servers will not be able to complete this. I’m not sure if it makes a difference but I’m on NA servers.

Man I can’t believe how many tears the word “hard” causes on this forum.

@ dagraan: my server (recently went from medium to high) does the Karka Queen on a daily basis.

The way you use the word “hard” seems to imply you mean skill. I don’t think anyone has a problem with something being “hard” if it just takes skill. The problem here is that it isn’t skill gated, it’s population gated. If you could do this solo by just having amazing skill it would be one thing, but you can’t. The inverse is true, you could have a ton of very unskilled players that could pull this off. So that removes the idea of “hard” entirely, if I guessed how you meant it. If not then just correct me.

The problem with the remake is that it’s population gated. I know people get mad when someone says this, but GW2 for most of the servers doesn’t have a huge population. You might see 10 to 15 people doing an event. Sometimes if you are really luck you can see 30+ doing an event. This one will require 80. That’s just so far beyond anything most servers can pull off. I know that some of you can’t admit that. I know some of you will get offended. I’m not saying GW2 is dead or anything.

They better not encourage playing in any way other than the way that results in success. I don’t want to see another situation where people farm champions instead of doing the event. Farming is unlimited, you can do it anywhere, and at any time. Special events and LS content is found in one specific place at a specific time, and there should be no reason to encourage farmers to take even one spot on the map away from someone who actually wants to play the content.

This is true, but look at what happens if you don’t. Once they removed the reason to farm certain things the people who wanted to get it done couldn’t because there weren’t enough people around.

It’s kind of a “kitten ed if you do, kitten ed if you don’t” system. If they don’t make it rewarding enough, then there won’t be enough people to do it. Remember they’ve already said it will take like 80 people in good gear to even pull it off. I honestly don’t think most servers will even be able to put that many people there. Which means guesting to one of the top 4/5, and then their home players not being able to get in. The other side is that if they make it too rewarding then people will figure out a way to farm it.

Now if the event could be completed by 5/10 people it wouldn’t be an issue. That’s small enough so that the people who really want to do it can, even if the loot isn’t so great. Consider the situation right now with Jormag. 5 people doing Jormag takes so long, and most people ignore it now. Big groups will just run past you on the way to a champion. Now they are introducing something that will require more time, and more effort, and hope that there are enough people to accomplish it.

Tequatl may be short, but it has to be a better reward than champion farming over the same time period or there just won’t be a reason to do it. Unless people do it for the .000000001% chance at getting an ascended weapon.

Just my opinion anyway, that doesn’t make it valid.

NO, simply because the server with the highest amount of coverage doesn’t need yet another way to snowball.

Once this goes live I can’t imagine playing WvW anymore. Typically we are outnumbered by a 2/3 to 1. Just imagine how that’s going to be when the enemies all have an extra 150 to everything.

That’s the only “you mad” moment I’ve ever experienced in GW2. That is just infuriating. It’s hard enough winning against multiple people with just rares. Then to see some guy worried about loot run in like that.

I’m venting here because I’m fairly certain some of you know exactly how I feel. I wish they would just remove the “downed state” from wvw. It’s a great idea in PvE, because it’s kind of heroic I guess.

Another “you mad” moment is when uplevels enter WvW on reset night. Honestly, if someone wants to bring their uplevel in at any other time, I don’t care. However, I just find it to be a new level of selfish to spam the portals with an uplevel to get in for reset.

I remember the first time I did that. I didn’t really know any better. A commander whispered me and explained that on reset they needed the best guy we could bring. Even though my guy was in the high 60s, I realized he was right. I didn’t get mad about it, and switched over.

The players in WvW have changed though. If you told someone that now they would just do the typical tantrum about playing whatever they want, and “you aren’t my dad” etc.

I have mixed feelings about down-state altogether. I kind of like that there is a medium between alive and dead, where they are mostly incapacitated, but there is still hope to save them in battle by rez or abilities. It just needs to be balanced especially between the classes, perhaps by removing down all state abilities and removing rallying.

That wouldn’t be so bad. Like a bleeding out state where they can still be helped by an ally. Only in PvP/WvW of course. I understand that PvE has the mechanic for a reason, plus it’s pretty cool in PvE I imagine it’s like an anime where the guy is almost dead then he suddenly gets up to kick some kitten .

I don’t think you read my post. Maybe you are just really bad. I don’t know you that well. Perhaps you’ve only ever fought in a big zerg. If you’ve never had this happen to you though why would you post? I don’t remember saying that the other guy shouldn’t play. I posted why I was angry. It’s hard to win with those odds. I don’t have much choice because we are so heavily outnumbered. When I do win though it really sucks to have it thrown away because of a design issue.

You see I think you are probably not very good at fighting other players. That isn’t an insult, it’s just that usually people tend to get a bit emotional when something is personal to them. You identified with the guy coming in trying to stomp for loot, instead of realizing that it is poor design to leave the rally system in pvp.

Right now if I win a 1v10 (I’m not nearly that good, I struggle heavily to win a 1v3) it can all be undone by one person coming along who doesn’t know what they are doing. I don’t blame the guy who comes along, I blame the system that allows that. Once I’ve beat someone they should be down for the count.

See that little part that says context. They actually explain why they do things. That isn’t even the end, they have a public beta…yes PUBLIC beta. They go through the changes there, they give reasons behind various changes. That is just one of many differences between a company that is actually an esport, and one that only used the term esport as a way to try and lure people in.

Oh and as far as I know tencent only holds a majority stake in riot, I don’t think they actually own them. Though to be fair the differences probably aren’t that huge, but I’m don’t actually know.

There’s been an awful lot of talk about how this game has changed…much of it negative. And I can see where people are coming from. A lot of the changes in the game has made it less fun and more grind. While the grind is optional…it’s only borderline optional. That is to say, there’s pressure to get achievements, pressure to get certain gear. If some of that pressure is self-inflicted by players, well, it’s still pressure.

But there have also been some changes for the better, too. A lot of people don’t like guild missions, but having done the guild puzzles now…I think that’s brilliant content.

So many advances to the game have been made… not just stuff like Fractals or the AC revamp, but also stuff like marketplace preview, the account wallet, the ability to target something even if you’re not in a group, the end of culling, zone wide invasions, the mini game rotation, the living story. Indeed, this game is hardly recognizable as the game that originally drew many of us here.

Whether you like the changes or not is an individual decision. Naturally if you don’t like them, you have a right to complain about them. But I’ve never played any MMO that hasn’t changed drastically and I’ve never played any MMO where people didn’t cry the sky was falling every time a change was made. This is normal for the MMO genre.

Games change and evolve all the time. You have a choice when they do to leave or stay, to complain or accept. Those are your choices.

This game has changed a whole lot since its release. Whether those changes have been a mistake or not is largely a matter of opinion.

The over-riding question is why has so much changed? What has caused these changes to occur. Some people say greed. Some people say that Anet is catering to a small but vocal minority. Others claim that Anet is trying to satisfy everyone. Others say Anet is trying to appease the content locusts, or the gear grinders.

Without knowing their reasons for change, I don’t see how we can judge the change. And, for the most part, Anet isn’t sharing their reasons.

I think it would be nice of patch notes would include not just changes, but notes behind the rational for changes.

I think this might help diffuse some of reactions people have to them.

So in short you want Anet to be more like Riot. Yeah, good luck with that. While you are at it could you convince the sun to not be so hot tomorrow?

Some Ideas to Improve Banners

Destructable?
They can’t move itself, they can’t attack, they can’t defend itself, they can’t interrupts, they can’t cc oponnent, they can’t deal condition, they can’t do anything alone.

The warrior banners are already movable. It simply requires someone to…..(quick horror movie gasp) pick them up. I know, that’s an awful lot of trouble to go through for such a meaningless buff. Yes you did just detect sarcasm. You see warrior players are largely lazy. Not all of them, there are some gems around here. They will pick up their banners, and they will move them, and they will even use them. I know, terrifying.

Second banners are already far more varied than spirits. Do you want me to give you a side by side comparison? It will just make you look bad, but I don’t mind. First go look at these two pages. Really read them, because it’s painfully obvious to everyone here you don’t have a clue what you are talking about.

Tribulation mode is a joke. 50 Lives and still cannot get past 3rd checkpoint b/c of the BS rocks. I see what you did Anet.. made it like this to put in an infinite continue coin so we all pay you MORE money to do this. Well not happening for me.

And if people say it is suppose to be that hard.. No I disagree. For one I think the SAB should be doable by all. BUT it should require more challenge not this 1 hit and you are dead crap. That is just utter garbage. Seriously.. 1 hit and you are dead Anet!? Thanks for making me want to destroy my computer and uninstall the game.

I can see you are frustrated but think of it as a challenge to be overcome. Such as the Halloween Clock Tower Jumping Puzzle supposedly only 5% of the players were able to beat it. Tribulation Mode is supposed to be that hard as it is an extra challenge mode with increased rewards. Risk and reward. If you want an even more challenging game go play Demon Souls.

Please don’t mention DS and GW2 together again. DS is awesome, but not because of stupid camera gimmicks. DS is great because there is actual challenge. Maybe it’s just how I see the games, but I see it as an insult to DS in the same sentence as something like GW2.

The thing about DS, at least Dark, is that I would hesitate to call it a success. It ended up selling a little more than 1 million in the U.S., and a great many of those were heavily discounted.

That isn’t to say it’s a horrible game. It is a great game, for what it is. I don’t play the game to just have fun, because that’s not really the point of DS. It’s about a challenge, to say I can beat this. Once you do, there is nothing left. It’s useless. You pass it on to friends, or resell it, and you never look back. While good in theory, and at least somewhat profitable, compare it to games that are successful in the “fun” department.

I’m all for a challenge, when it’s properly setup. With DS that was the case. You have a challenge, you “beat” it, you trakitten and move on.

Now the application of that to an mmo? That’s just a horrible idea. You want people to keep playing, not put it down as done. At least that’s how I see it. I’ve done the jumping puzzles. Sure they were fun, but do I do them on a regular basis? Not a chance, for me they were fun once to say “yeah I did it”, but there is no “fun” to be had other than saying “yeah I beat it”

And yet I bet you don’t give a kitten about how rangers, eles and mesmers were nerfed in to the ground, do you?

I haven’t posted lately on here, had a house fire then just can’t seem to enjoy the game anymore, but I do want to reply to this.

Guardians are in a very similar place to rangers right now. Neither one has a clear direction. The “specialty” of each class has been reduced to nothing through the repeated use of the dreaded nerf/buff cycle that has been happening. One of the absolute worst ideas for GW2 was the idea that every profession could spec for damage/tank/utility, but certain professions have almost double the health of others. Maybe at release it was balanced around that, but it hasn’t been for a long time. The idea of “health” balancing should have never been implemented in the first place.

Sure I get the idea that the protection buff is supposed to counter low hp. However that was put in during a time when condi/bunker wasn’t nearly as powerful as it is now. It was also before the enormous amounts of punishment for buffs was added/buffed. As it stands right now protection is a weakness in spvp. When a Guardian puts on protection they are basically painting a rather large “steal/convert my buffs now!” sign on themselves.

The Devs need to just decide what direction they want each profession to move in. Then they need to actually make sure it’s at least somewhat unique. I’ve already seen warriors replacing Guards as bunker. The reason we don’t see it in tournaments I think is people are afraid it’s going to get nerfed to the ground. Why learn a profession that has no future. (Though to be fair I feel that spvp for gw2 has no future. I hope I’m wrong, but the great exile of christmas kind of sealed that).

So anyway it isn’t that people don’t feel bad for Rangers. It’s that many professions are in the same predicament. The devs have no clear focus on where they want certain professions headed. Because of that they continue to fall further behind with each patch.

With that said, I think somewhere out there someone will come up with a Guardian build that focuses on summon spirit weapons and it will change everything. Ive messed with it on and off and I see potential but im not yet ready. Seriously, its going to happen

This happened with Ranger spirit bunkers too. People were using the build far before it became so popular. Once the other options were nerfed, people switched. It wasn’t that great, but it was good for what they wanted. We see where that gets you. The problem is Anet won’t just come out and say “hey we want rangers to be X, where a third of your dps is on an ai controlled unit that is poorly coded etc”.

If they did then people could start building for whatever Anet wants. As it stands now people continue to come up with interesting builds, and every time it gets nerfed. The players shouldn’t have to guess what the devs want us to play. It’s similar to guardians. We were/are the bunker profession. Except not really. There are professions that are now better at it, and they are getting much more play. So where does that leave us?

Please explain to me how having easy access to everything makes the content simple? Further explain to me how having easy access to everything would in some way trivialize the achievements as part of completing the content.

A good example would be the jumping puzzles in lions arch. There is a simple one, a medium one, and one that is a bit more complex. All have easy access to them. Yet they are not all simple, and yes I felt a sense of achievement when completing all three of them. So I find your argument that easy access trivializes something to be lacking.

Guardians are good at 1v1 it’s just we have to try harder than other classes because we don’t have the mobility, CC, stealth etc that other classes have that allow them to take a breather before getting back in the game.

Guardian is a very ‘once you’re in you’re in’ kinda class and the only real options are killing everything or die trying.

They got pretty good mobility with the right weapons. I run with sword and a 600 range tele every 10 seconds is really good. 1200 every 20 seconds is still better than a dual-traited Mesmer Blink (reduce cooldown + increase range). I thought that was great. It seemed people didn’t enjoy it because it required a little though, though not much in my opinion. I wish we could have more stuff like this. Puzzles that actually made people think instead of just blindly pressing buttons.

Celestial gear is ruined

I knew MF was being removed, as I have stated many times. I NEVER said anything to the contrary, and I have no idea why you think I did. Stop making crap up.

What I expected, though, was them to compensate for the removal of an entire stat, which was the tipping point for many people in whether to make the gear. If they are going to go the weak path, and kill what trust people have left, then they need to offer full refunds.

And yes, there are people who had no idea MF was beng removed. Hell, there still are heaps of people who have no idea it is being removed. Anet are incredibly bad at giving information to the casual gamer.

I hate to tell you, but those people were pretty foolish. Celestial gear is crap, and it’s only good for people that specifically build around the celestial gear. Any trait setup that a player might need can be better met by a traditional set that is mixed/matched correctly.

Those people effectively nerfed themselves in order to have a chance at better loot. I thought everyone knew celestial was a noob trap already.

If you could only get said weapons by doing Fractals or Dungeons I would agree, but as of now you can get them from crafting (both doable from PvE and WvW), Guild Missions (PvE), Fractals (PvE) and Rank-up Chests (WvW), now I am not that good with math, but I am rather sure that there are quite fair, due to the fact that you can get it from WvW in 2 ways and PvE in 3 (where one of them requires a guild, so it might leave out a big part of the players anyway).

I will assume you aren’t trolling me, you were very civil in your post so I will do the same.

Pile of Bloodstone Dust, Account Bound (Refines into Bloodstone Bricks, requires Artifice/Huntsman/Weaponsmith 450) – Champion loot bags
Dragonite Ore, Account Bound (Refines into dragonite ingots, Artifice/Huntsman/Weaponsmith 450) – Comes from Temple chests in Orr, Megabosses, and Keeps and Castles in WvW.
Empyreal Fragments, Account Bound (Refines into Empyreal Stars, Artifice/Huntsman/Weaponsmith 450) – Comes from dungeons, mini-dungeons, jumping puzzles and camps/towers in WvW.
Glob of Dark Matter, Account Bound – Obtained only from salvaging exotics.
Augur’s Stone, Account Bound – Purchased for skill points from Miyani near the mystic forge. Costs 20 skill points.
Thermocatalytic Regeants – Brought from vendors (10 for 14 silver 96 copper)

Those are the things you need as base materials. Then you will refine them

Glob of Elder Spirit Residue (50 Elder Wood Planks, 1 Glob of Ectoplasm, 10 Thermocatalytic Reagents)
Lump of Mithrillium (50 Mithril Ingot, 1 Glob of Ectoplasm, 10 Thermocatalytic Reagent)

Refinements(Obsidian Shards): You can also refine Obsidian shards at 450. These items are account bound.
Bloodstone Brick (100 Piles of Bloodstone Dust, 2 Obsidian Dust, 10 Thermocatalytic Reagents)
Dragonite Ingot (100 Dragonite Ore, 2 Obsidian Shards, 10 Thermocatalytic Regents)
Empyreal Star (100 Empyreal Fragment, 2 Obsidian Shard, 10 Thermocatalytic Reagents)

So unless the drop rate is really high for doing the few WvW activities that even award these, you must see the difference in the ability to obtain them. Then consider that the real parts of WvW that players end up doing to win don’t involve most of the things that even award these.

To give you an example I spend hours upgrading keeps, walking with yaks (giving them speed buffs), and setting up siege. There is more, but I wanted to give a few examples. None of those things award any of the items I would need. Yet I’m still expected to defend myself.

Now this sort of punishes people that are doing the boring work. They aren’t out zerging, they are doing their best to ensure victory in ways that the majority of people don’t. I understand that what I’m talking about now isn’t directly related to ascended weapons. It’s a failure of the reward system for WvW. It’s off topic, but I wanted to give you an example.

I will edit some more in a bit, I really do want to have a good discussion. Unfortunately a house fire has me living in strange conditions. I’m only explaining why I’m cutting off the topic in such a fashion.

For people talking about WvW let’s take a look at the damage on the great sword.

Ascended GS damage is 1045 -1155. Now exotic is 995-1100. The base damage difference is 50to 55 more damage. Roughly a 5% increase in base damage. This applies to the damage calculation because of the “weapon power” part. So you are looking at a base 5% increase on skill coefficients.

They are also getting a 5% increase to other stats.

So you are looking at a minimum of a 5% increase in damage. With skills that will increase closer to 10% because of the increase in coefficients.

Damage done = (weapon damage) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)

Will use strike. Assume 2000 power, and target has 3k armor.

1100-995 1047.5, 1045-1155 1100

1047.5*2000*.8/3000=558.67
1100*2000*.8/3000=586.67

5% of 558.67 = 27.9335
27.9335+558.67=586.6035

So basically they are giving a free sigil (5% damage) on ascended weapons, while allowing you to have 2 offensive infusions and a sigil slot. For people that only do WvW this is a pretty big loss. Now they might make these available for BoH, in which case it’s fine and I will be fine with it.

5% is the reward that pve players will have over wvw players. Now the PvE players are saying “well it isn’t huge, so why should I get my damage reduced to exotic levels”. O.k., well if it isn’t important why would it bother you to have it reduced? The reality is WvW players already make huge sacrifices, and yet the pve players get rewards for it. They get passive increases to so much, without doing anything. That is irrelevant to the current discussion though, so I will drop it.

They should simply cap stats in WvW. If you have 5 people all doing 5% more damage that is huge. It’s going to take down camps much faster, not to mention gates/towers/guards etc. Those will end up having to be buffed, which will mean that groups who aren’t running ascended weapons will be punished.

The best thing to do is to avoid all of that, and cap the stats as they currently are.

@Colly, i wouldnt mind that, i guess the only problem would be ability to hide armor, and i guess players would complain saying the other player had a advantage over him (aka the person lost and is QQing)

Ahh, class identity. It takes me back to my childhood, playing Ragnarök… People would ask for some form of customization, other people would say that then it would be too hard to tell one class from another. Good old times (haha nope).

People will always complain. Still, I want more permanent tonics that can be used in battles, and ones that REALLY are permanent and that can be used in WvW. I would love a Kodan combat tonic, I would make a new character with a typical Kodan name and I would be a Kodan forever.

People that are bad at PvP will never understand the need to identify another class, the reason is because they will never understand PvP. Based on what you guys say they should just go ahead and remove all visual tells from PvP.

I don’t think any explanation would work. You either get it, or you don’t. I don’t think anyone expects much from the PvE crowd anyway.

Excuse me, but I’m quite decent at PvP and I identify classes by (obviously) attacks, summoned stuff, the way the dodge looks, the buffs they are using and even the speed they are running. I don’t need anything else at all and I don’t think class identification should limit customization.

It is not my fault (or anybody’s, really) if you need more visual hints than some of us do, so please refrain from making assumptions.

Good. Maybe more will think like you and stop the event so that people who want to succeed rather than farm champs actually have a chance at beating the event.

Yeah wasn’t that used as justification to farm embers. When it was pointed out that people would just stop the reply was “good, then we can always have it open”.
