Asura necro is the best possible combo in the game, super easy to play, great animations, hilarious one-liners… being a teeny tiny bad*ss, and jumping into the middle of a mob and death-shroud-5/4-ing the whole lot of them to death while taking no damage is just divine

Make sure you show her the wardrobe system, particularly the dye panel; get a couple of really cute minis; if she’s a girlie girl she’ll probably go nuts over the rainbow unicorn finisher (it makes me laugh so hard, I just love it XD).

But really, when I started, it was less obviously girlie things that got me instantly hooked – exploring, for one; finding jps, secret hidden places, and dying many hilarious stupid deaths…I still love those things now The new karka hunt is probably a great introduction, I loved it and I’m sure I would have loved it back when I was starting out, certainly a great way to help get map completion in LA.

Btw I started with an ele, I never found it difficult because I had nothing to compare it to, and in fact it was always really good fun, and felt like it had great adaptability/utility with having different attunements that I could use for every situation. It is visually very attractive, with lots of great effects; don’t let the way top-level players play ele put you/her off, I found it a great way to start

Wow this info is gold-dust, thanks for putting so much into your replies, it’s not just the OP who is reading this and benefiting from it I’m still struggling to level up my first thief. It’s very different from ele and necro, which is what I’ve always played up to now. I don’t really want to skip leveling and head straight to 80 as I think I really need to learn the profession. But I’m finding it tricky with so much gated behind level achievements, it makes it really difficult to know what skills I’m ultimately aiming for, and pretty much impossible to work out any good rotations and combos

The scuttling sound effect made it a lot more fun than previous treasure hunts have been, because I knew when one was nearby, it was just a question of searching… and the individual clues on the achievement page was a fantastic feature, needed them for the last few, but never needed to consult an actual guide at all, which is pretty close to perfect for a treasure hunt imo

Well, I got mine straight away, plus another one for beta use. But I literally pre-ordered the very instant the popup appeared while I was playing, so I may well just have beaten the rush, and maybe things got a bit slower later when there was an influx of people pre-ordering. So I suspect timing may play a small part in this.

Before anyone starts a flame war over it there is a method to my madness rather than just showing off. What I like doing in PVE is helping new players, but they may not even notice me because of downleveling. So not only might some wonder about the commander tag (or may know it means ‘someone who probably knows a little bit’) but it allows me to say something like ‘if anyone needs help look for the red icon on your map’ in map chat.

So, does anyone thing this was a good idea or not? If not, do you have any better suggestions?

I play mostly PvE and I think that’s actually very useful and helpful Really helps to concentrate players where they’re needed most, also you know who to look at for useful /say comments and instructions. I often log into a map and can tell right away where the action or train is, which I find very useful, so thank you

First time posting on the forums, and I just wanted to say my 2 cents in hopes that ANet will see this.

You have a lot of potential with HoT. I got excited when you mentioned how players can glide through the canopy to find new areas of a map. But, IMO, to keep the zone interesting, don’t just make another Silverwaste map, and don’t make it a pointless wasteland (although beautiful) like Southsun. Instead…

Add a thrilling, adrenaline rush, plinko-style, trolly-ride with the gliding system.

Essentially, add minigames, like Mario party. Add glider races as separate instances, like the wintersday games. I’m talking some crazy F-Zero level speed racing through the air. Let there be obstacles and different paths that, at the end, either lead to death or loot. Throw some power-ups in the air so I can speed up or slow down others.

The ‘sad’ Lion’s Arch music. Really, really tugs at my heart, makes me think of those epic battles we had in LA during Scarlett’s attack, that was really a great gameplay time.

edit I left out the Sanctum Sprint music, I’ve no idea what it’s called but I love that too; it always makes me laugh because Sanctum Sprint’s so utterly mental and ridiculous and such good fun, I laugh my way through it XD

I spent a lot of my early leveling trying to kill things in Diessa Plateau with, variously, a bucket, a chicken, and something else….think it might have been grilled meat or something lol XD

I’m a rubbish player, I manage to kill my poor ele at the drop of a hat, but Jormag can be made to work out ok. For one thing, you can get away with doing very little actual damage and still get a gold and all the loot.

I also follow this simple plan – for the first part, stay far, far away from him (defending the laser canons, for instance, or even just rezzing people), then the INSTANT you hear ‘The wall is down!’ go straight into air for speed, run all the way up to him as fast as possible, then into fire or earth and pound the bejesus out of him for the few moments you get before the wall goes up again. The moment you see players start to run away again, RUN AWAY lol…go back to what you were doing before. Rinse. Repeat.

For the second stage, with the ice pillars, you don’t need to get anywhere near him. Stay out of the fear zone and just destroy ice pillars and rez the fallen. You get plenty of credit just for those things And if you go into water and spam area healing just as feared and damaged players are running up towards you, you can really be a big help

Anet are totally missing a trick here. I already have tons of gw2 stuff, I buy t shirts etc from places like Redbubble, (Excelsior!, and More Violets Less Violence which is super gorgeous) and I have a brilliant quaggan hat my brother bought me for my birthday, don’t know where he got it from though. I’d pay almost anything for a quaggan backpack, it would have to be a proper one though, with the button eye hanging off and the little fishy zipper

I really hate the light one though with blast, as it is used often Guard Staff #3 in combination with static fields (ligthning)… and you want the statics to be blasted for swiftness.

This seems to have become a bit worse lately. I’ve actually failed to get ANY loot on several champs in the last week or so, due to the targeting not letting me tag the boss. This is on lvl 80 chars, really there is no way my level 80 ele cannot do enough damage to the fire ele or steam ogre or SB to get credit…it was just impossible to target them even once during the event, despite me frantically trying everything I could think of

I don’t know how to record my playing to show the disaster of randomness that results from my tabbing, I wish I could… it would probably be hilarious to watch actually lol

It’s frustrating for everyone who has this problem; it only started after one of the big updates and was not a problem before that, so it is definitely due to something that got changed or added, and no indication has ever been given that it will be fixed or even that it is being looked at.

My biggest worry is in case whatever is causing this also affects the ‘gliding’ skill in the HoT expac. If I buy it and then found that was impossible for me to do, then I would be really, REALLY upset.

Should be fine, I play on a lower-spec i5 (which is quite old now as well) and can play perfectly with pretty high settings

Mine is an ASUS K55V if you want to look it up for comparison. I haven’t had any problem with any game so far, although I do have the nVidia GeForce Experience thingy that keeps my drivers constantly updated

I nearly always wp + run back, but usually I don’t mind rezzing other people, it depends on the boss.

At Golem Mark 2, it’s really quick to wp and run back. Or if it’s nearly done you can wait to be rezzed after, I don’t usually (esp. as I can get my armour fixed on the way back!), but I don’t mind if people do wait.

On some of the low level bosses like Svanir Shaman, I’m happy to rez people as soon as they get downed because a lot of low level players do this boss, and of course they get downed very easily, and often don’t know the ropes yet anyway. I can do enough damage to get credit from a couple of hits so it’s no loss to me to rez people there.

Also at Karka Queen I rez people, because it’s another one where even good players can get downed very suddenly, and it can be a long run from the nearest wp with not much time to make it, as KQ goes down very fast when there are a lot of players. I’ve been rezzed there a few times on my squishies, and I’ve been very grateful for it

I think what I’m saying is, it depends on the boss, and it depends on the player; on a level 80 char I think it’s good to rez lower level players who get downed, we all know what it’s like having that kitteny low level armour (and, thanks to the npe, no traits), it’s good to help people out if you can, and let’s face it, on a level 80, you can Equally though, on a level 80 char I wouldn’t expect other players to have to look out for me. Nice to get rezzed if someone does that for me but I would generally expect at that level to be able to look after myself, and help people who are on lower level chars.

Lots of artists and designers make gw2 fanstuff like t shirts and decals and so on (I have a ton of them lol), I’m sure Anet are perfectly happy with that, maybe it’s legally difficult to stop the one without stopping the other.

Ahhh is this the magnetic pull thingy? It doesn’t work any more for me either It’s a fairly common issue, it can happen at the first area of Dry Top too. Apparently it’s a latency issue, some people get it and others don’t; as far as I’m aware if you’re one of the unlucky ones that have this problem there’s no fix.
