The real way to get something implemented is to suggest it in the context of (the very precious) PvP …hope that it gets put into effect there, then hope that the system is carried over to dungeons.
Hackers are actually appearing more and more in PvP. A few suggestions in the PvP forum would do much more than any post here.
The way PPT is designed, the incentive is not to win the week, but to get as many points as you can over the long term: many weeks. So the best thing to do is to take your points from the weakest server every week. Winning the week is not incentivised.
A ratings system that greater rewards winning (winner-take-all in the most extreme case) would work better in a theoretical sense, where servers are somewhat evenly matched.
As it is, population and coverage differences are so drastic in so many matchups that the whole system is meaningless anyway.
This has been suggested for WvW hackers/trolls many times as it’s pretty clear Anet doesn’t have (or doesn’t want to spend) the resources for proper enforcement. Don’t bet on it happening, though.
(I do think it would work assuming the player-mods work under the threat of insta-perma-ban if they abuse their power.)
WvW has had near zero dev attention; population is down across the board; almost every matchup is grossly unbalanced. If you’ve stayed away for 2-3 years, there’s no reason to come back.
The funny part of this whole thread is that its all oriented around T2, which is actually doing just fine as a tier. T3 is where the problem lies.
Kuru, the OP said to me " It’ll help balance T3 because the server that goes down will likely implode."
However, if history tells us anything, any implosion is going to drive players back into T2. Those players are not going to distribute themselves into T3.
It’d be fine if the implosion sent players into the remaining T2 servers. It’d mean three T2 servers, which I think should be the ultimate goal.
Fourth, no matter which server gets focused down; neither SoS nor YB (DB and FA for that matter as well) will destack to the point where the T4-T5 servers that moved up to T3 can realistically compete against them.
YB was a beast before their T1 transfers and will still stomp T3. I know the entire list (it’s a very small one) of people thinking of moving if SoS gets “stuck” in T3 and SoS will still enjoy a large coverage and numbers advantage over T3.
I just want to emphasize to the long suffering folks in T3 range that if you think the current situation has a happy ending; you haven’t been paying attention.
Once it’s clear which server is staying in T3, that server will implode. I wouldn’t be surprised if that server ended up lower than T3 in the end.
https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/wvw
Well according to this FA is still T2. So I don’t get it , didn’t we score the best outta SOS,YB last week? Here’s a good post explaining it. Just terrible RNG https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Fort-Aspenwood-WvW-Matchup/first#post4751582
That post’s explanation is very misleading. I believe the 1% probability mentioned actually comes from the fact that SBI had a very low probability of being in the T3 matchup.
Anyway, here’s my understanding of (roughly) how it works:
Every week the matchup algorithm tweaks the ratings of each server a bit (by a random amount). Whatever the new rankings are after those tweaks is what determines the matchup. The ratings gap between FA, SoS, YB, and DB is less than 25 points. That’s so small that it’s (roughly) a toss-up which server ends up in the T3 matchup.
Coming from a T2 we HATE fighting t3. Just no fun for anyone. We steam roll em. Last month we have come in first place, buy quite a bit, and the still throw us on T3. Makes no sense.
It makes perfect sense. Just look at the ratings. The ratings gap between server number 4 and server number 7 was only 25 points at the end of the last matchup. That makes it basically a toss-up which of the four gets put into the T3 matchup.
So if T2 does nothing to address the problem, then your server — every week — ends up with a one in four chance of a bad matchup; or, put another way, it’s roughly a 70% chance you get a T3 matchup at least once every month.
As for your solution, this has been tried multiple times already. My server (Fort Aspenwood) was the highest Glicko server in tier 2, but instead of us staying in tier 2 we were moved down by freak chance to tier 3. We are not having fun, tier 3 is not having fun. There are clear number advantages not to mention coverage. IoJ and NSP aren’t showing up, meaning that there aren’t fights. I feel like the situation will truly defuse itself when the new leagues are starting, people will transfer to get first place rewards and hopefully that will cause the servers to balance themselves out. Patience is key here, underhanded tactics such as focusing one server have been tried and tried again. It won’t solve anything, and definitely will not stabilize overnight.
- The rating difference between the four T2 servers is only around 20 points. With such a small gap, it’s not surprising at all FA was the one that got randomized into the T3 matchup. To prevent this, you need the ratings difference between your server and the number four T2 server to be as large as possible.
- It’s pretty hard for NSP to show up when the matchup is FA-IoJ-SBI. NSP got randomized into the T4 matchup. In fact, NSP is almost 100 ratings points above the servers it got matched up with. Contrast this with the small 20 difference between FA and and SoS.
- We’ve had 3 tournaments. We’ve already seen that they don’t cause the population to balance out. They create bandwagon servers that rise through the ranks overnight and then collapse just as fast. However, a tournament might solve the problem for a completely different reason: there will be a rush for the T2 servers to tank into silver league; tanking always causes internal strife between servermates; perhaps one server will implode from this?
- The alternative is to do nothing and have a roughly one in four chance of ending up in a faceroll matchup every reset.
Two servers agreeing on which server to focus is probably enough.
But there’s four servers.
Yes, three agreeing to beat up on one server would work for sure…
but I think two agreeing to double team the same one would be sufficient. It’d take a bit longer because of matchup variances, but in the end, it’d still do it.
The answer is no because
1) the playerbase is divided on which server to focus
2) the playerbase does not all agree on the concept of balance
Two servers agreeing on which server to focus is probably enough. Maybe even one, but that’d take longer.
As for it not being easy… a month of doubleteams will probably take its toll on the victim server: they may be able to hold out a bit, but burnout will inevitably come with all the overtime put in.
(edited by Lord Kuru.3685)
I’m just going to say this now -
This plan only solves the issue of the 4 server rotation in and out of T2. Forcing one of these servers out of the tier, is not going to balance T3.
It’ll help balance T3 because the server that goes down will likely implode.
First of all, this is NOT a matchup thread. It address the general problem of T2/T3 matchups.
The four servers ranked 4 – 7 have fewer than 20 ratings points between them. The server ranked 8th has more than 250 ratings points fewer than these four.
This means that every week, one of the four is set up with two servers that are extremely overmatched. And because of the small ratings gap between them, it’s basically a toss-up which one of the four gets a boring week.
There is something that players can do to fix this problem: choose one of the four and focus it every single week until its ratings drop to the point that it has significantly more chance of ending up in the T3 matchup.
Which one should be sacrificed? Maybe the one who tower-humps the most? Maybe the one who has the most rude players? Maybe the one that emote-spams the most. It doesn’t matter… but make your alliance now or you may be the target.
TLDR: push one of the T2 servers permanently into T3 by focussing it every week. Within one month it will implode and fall permanently out of T2.
Gw2 has no intrinsic system that detects and autoban all hacks. They need to do it manually 1 by 1. It is here that the failed report system shows up. In wvw/eotm you dont even see their name if on the enemy server. This makes screenshots and video records not that effective in most cases. In instanced dungeons you will only know if you are in his party. Also the most popular hacks are speed and fly hack. It can be hard for some players to click in someone speed hacking.
T1/2 and EoTM are full of hacks.
The poor reporting system isn’t even the biggest problem. Even if you could report perfectly and instantly, they only have 6-7 devs in total who must witness the act in person for anything to be done. So pretty much, there’s no chance your report is acted upon.
Anet’s lack of action with regard to hackers in WvW has made them more bold. So now we see those hackers emboldened and infecting PvP. Not surprising, really.
You need to kill Commander Kayei in order to have a chance at that recipe.
It has been confirmed multiple times in this forum that is is not true. Recipes can drop from any of the boss chests. And unless something’s changed recently, killing Kaeyi doesn’t cause Tazza to drop a chest.
Also a full reset completely invalidates all the time, effort, and hard work so many players put into their servers to rise in ranks and strengthen their community’s wvw experience, it would be like spitting in their face and send the message, that none of them or what they do matters.
That won’t stop them. When they announced resets of fractal ranks, there was HUGE outrage in the dungeon community. They did it anyway (for fractal leaderboards that never ended up being implemented LOL).
I’ll pick it up without a doubt, because a new class and new specializations are just what the doctor ordered. Also, I have (probably too much) faith in ANet that they’ll pull through on their heavily-emphasized promise of ultimately challenging content in GW2 with this expansion. Whatever form that takes, I know I want to be a part of it.
It’s insane how they keep emphasizing it. In every interview, regardless if its on topic of the question asked, they bring it up. :p
I rly wonder what it’ll be.
Almost 100% chance it’s Marionette/Tequatl-like open world zerg content and not smaller team-based dungeon-type content.
Or you could disband all T1 and T2 servers and evenly move the population out to the lower tiers. Neither OP’s idea or this will ever happen without Anet intervention: too much tragedy of the commons at play. But it’s pretty clear Anet has no plans to address the issue. Just ride out WvW into the sunset and hope another, better game will appear before it gets too unfun.
(There will be a bump in population when the expansion comes out and that might even out things, but with Anet’s clear lack of insight into how their own game is played, that won’t last long.)
When the primary source of content is Achievements and Collections, it’s safe to say the no grind philosophy is dead.
For those few players left who are primarily dungeon/fractal runners: if there are no new dungeons (almost a certainty) and no new fractal levels (very possible) in the expansion, will you buy it?
This was the first thing I was told when I came to Tier 1, I asked why I was 33 in que and it took under 2 min to get in and they told me it was because they allow more people on the map in Tier 1.
Perhaps a 30 man guild group decided to map hop. In the lower tiers this generally won’t happen because pugs are the main fighting forces there and they don’t move from map to map as efficiently.
I’m just going to implore the devs right now…
PLEASE don’t make the map similar to EotM in terrain. I don’t want to think about “falling to my death” on every kitten turn, I want a map geared to fight.
Take a page from WoW’s Alterrac Valley map, create natural chokehold points to promote fighting…. don’t don’t DON’T make it a vertical map!
Way too late. They’ve already emphasized, as the main features of the map, the verticality and the environmental traps for knocking people off cliffs. There’s no way they’d make such drastic changes at this point.
When they started giving badges away like candy in the achievement chests, that’s when all the WvW JPs died. There is no restoring them unless some reward is put in that people can’t get any other way.
- WvW: Necros are in a decent spot.
- Dungeons (speedclear/for the tokens): Just as bad as before. Zero improvement.
- Dungeons (play how you want): Doesn’t matter.
- Open World PvE: it’s all faceroll so it doesn’t matter what profession or build you play.
It doesnt really make sense that they wouldnt have dungeons since it seems these areas they are making are mainly lvl 80 so endgame content, and whereas like a year ago casuals may not have been doing dungeons, it seems like everyone is getting on them dungeon trains, casual or hardcore. Seems like it’d be necessary to keep ppl playing
Actually they use the other model of endgame content. Instead of harder and more hardcore, it’s more meta-gaming: achievements and collections.
They already said no more dungeons. So not surprising there’s no announcements.
They didn’t say no new dungeons ever, they said it wasn’t something there were adding soon.
No. That’s not what they said. “No plans for any new dungeons” is more accurate.
As for all the hopeful talk of raids: I believe that was referring to open world “raids” like the marionette.
I think of you are all taking this out of proportion…you have seen 1 picture of the map, which looks pretty sweet to me. You think because they are on a cliff that the map is all cliffs, but are there not cliffs by garrison? What about hills? There are plenty of cliffs in current WvW, but all of you negate that because the terrain coloring is the same as EOTM.
I understand some of you just look for ways to be bitter, but if this map didnt come out and nothing happened, I garuntee ur list of what Anet hasn’t done would include no new maps. So kitten and enjoy something for the first time in your life.
Their own description of of the map emphasizes vertical heights and knocking people off using environmental traps.
There are a lot of WvW only players, what do you expect them to do for a week?
Sometimes you have to sacrifice a bit to get what you want. In this case, give up a week of GW2 and praying Anet even bothers to notice.
That said, people play to have fun so there’s pretty much zero chance of OP’s idea coming to fruition (at least in an organized way).
That said, if it keeps going like this, people won’t bother showing up (it’s already happening… hence the score) and maybe it will come to be.
If you had waited the 1/2 to 1 year before it came out, you’d have a much better machine for the same price you paid today.
I know Dragon Bash happened in June, but I don’t recall any other seasonal between now and then.
Maybe an anniversary celebration?
That’s happening in the original game in April.
Dragon bash didn’t happen last year at all. Did it?
There won’t be a Living Story season between now and the expansion.
Which may point out that the expansion is coming soon in which case we are talking about a date after summer.Until then there will probably be a feature pack and other additions.
Why would you say soon? It’s usually 6 months between Living Story seasons. But in this case, with an expansion, they can probably milk it for another four to five months. When people get impatient, they’ll just say “expansion coming!!” So I’d say definitely no earlier than summer and probably winter, in time for holidays.

I think the best right now is hopefully optimistic. If they take the best of the current WvW maps and build from that, it will be good. If they build form EotM, it will be trouble.
Read the description:
- “navigate treacherous heights”
- “traps that blow your foes to the depths below”
- “ferocious defenders to help keep the enemies at bay”
Very clearly a natural extension of EotM. It’s pretty clear they’ve learned nothing. Plus zero talk of dealing with what’s really killing WvW: copulation and coverage.
There is already a huge playerbase that are crying because their server is dead and adding another map isn’t gonna help in any way in those cases. Since i presume that anet knows this i’d presume that they are currently working on a different matchup system. Anet could you give any information about this? :p
Why would you presume that? We have a wealth of past history to look at and that history tells us (given no announcement) nothing’s going to change except a new BL.
They’re probably hoping the expansion brings in new players who can repopulate the servers. It just might work. But with the basic problems unaddressed, the initial bump of new players will give way to declining population soon enough and we’ll be where we are now in the end.
- “navigate treacherous heights”
- “traps that blow your foes to the depths below”
- “ferocious defenders to help keep the enemies at bay”
Sounds just like EotM to me. It’d be foolish to ignore two and a half years worth of past actions which tell us:
Failed Skyhammer —> failed BL bloodlust ruins --> failed EotM.
Is the next one
—> successful EotM BL?
From past history, doubtful.
Using guilds directly has some problems:
- People can be in more than one guild
- usually guilds aren’t large enough to fill even one map completely,
- guilds have a lot of unneeded PvE stuff
- not every guild want to play competitive WvW
Therefore I though something new but guild-like would be best.
And where did you hear that ?
The only thing WvW will get is new Com tag “Green”.
The End.Really stop waisting your time and coming up ideas who wvw Anet won’t do anything. And whit this so called expansion (actuall LS3+feature patch) They will get new things to play in PVE. Raids and Guild hauls. That’s pretty much it for WvW.
Only thing you can hope for is more disappointment from ANet for WvW.
All true, but perhaps there is some dev or (dev-to-be) who will create a WvW-like game in the future. Just take all the suggestion threads in this forum as theoretical discussions. It might prevent some awesome future game from falling to the same fate as Anet’s WvW.
This is why all those clamoring for Tengu are going to be disappointed if/when they actually appear. Anet’ll spend as much time on Tengu armor as on Charr armor. In other words, awful looking stretched textures (ported directly from the human version) and massive clipping.
They’ll end up being played as little as Charr are.
Community will immediately jump on the next Xpac bandwagon:
“For 100% sure there will be an expansion pack announced in April!”
- You want to sell the 15 omnomberries in your inventory.
- You select the omnomberries and right-click sell on TP.
- You click on lowest sell price, and click sell.
- Only one is listed.
When did this change because it’s incredibly annoying.
Strange. I drop the flamewall, move onto it, turn my body until its long side is in front of me. I drop the comet and it directly hits the wall. But no might. Even with the camera pointed straight down and the comet basically hitting at my feet: no might.
In fact, even with a big field like Radiation Field, dropping the comet inside doesn’t cause the combo.
Perhaps fixing the algorithm that matches up servers would be good. I’ve seen servers that have crushed their enemy stay on the same tier while one of the crushed servers gets moved up to the next tier where they have no business being. If you want to destroy the desire of people to play in WvW that is sure one way to do it. People in ANet know what server I’m on so it won’t take a rocket scientist to know what I’m talking about.
Get the matchups set so that servers that are fairly equal are battling each other.
The entire problem is that for many servers there are no two other servers that match well. That’s how bad the population problem is. At this point, there’s no hope Anet will do anything to fix this issue, though it’s nice to have a theoretical discussion so that maybe in a future WvW game by another developer, the same mistakes won’t be made.
Anet’s MO has always been to nerf around the problem instead of the problem directly. They almost always fail, ending up damaging builds other than the one they wish to nerf. But they still love doing it this way.
Can you blast with comet (focus 5, water) without a target? I tried blasting flamewall (focus 4, fire) but it didn’t seem to work, even if I arranged it so that the comet came down on the wall.
Imho, confusion should last much longer and deals lesser damage.
I used to kill champions in curse shore dealing 6K with confusion. A 33% dmg increase would lead that 6K to 8K. A damage like that is ridiculously huge for a single condition. No other cond can reach those numbers.I’d better prefer a long-lasting confusion (worthful in pve/pvp/wvw) that deals approx 1.000 max dmg per ticket (25 stacks), in line with every other condies
This post doesnt make sense… Mobs use an ability about every 6 secs, so if you’re doing 6k dmg ever time a mob uses an ability you’re already doing the equivalent of “1,000 dmg per ticket”.
And with a condi build, you can easily do “3000 dmg per ticket” .. maybe bleed needs to be nerfed? LOL.
Forcing players to run across the map because they are better then you, is a horrible idea.
LOL. Seriously? You think the ratings are the way they are because some servers are better than others?
(edited by Lord Kuru.3685)
It’s not just the stealth. Losing target when your opponent has stealthed, combined with the absolutely horrid targeting system does not help.
I wonder how many of the people that complain here, are the same persons that
always complain that everything is too easy and that they want harder content
and moar challenge.
All this does is make things more tedious. Not challenging.
