Squishy build but very fun and decent survivability

one build cannot be in same time squishy and have decent survivability…

squishy by definition means low survivability :P

other than that – personally I’d take trappers expertise over sharpened edge, spotter over striders defense, also you can try to give a shot to invigorating bond over protective ward – atm its hard to judge which would add more survivability…

at first I wanted to say that I’m ok as longas you can invent 10 different ways of self heal, but then I’ve seen how you did this for a thief and….:
[note: if I haven’t commented on skill it menas its either already existing skill or I have no objections to it]

5) (New) Shadow Clones
Deception. Create two Shadow Clones and you and your clones gain protection for 4seconds. Gain Health back and lose a Condition whenever a Shadow Clone gets defeated. Gain also slightly Health when the Shadow Clones deal damage.
Shadow Clones copy the Original and do always exactly the same moves like the Original. So when the original throws for example Dancing Daggers, the Clones will also throw Dancing Daggers.

aren’t clones getting a little bit into mesmer territory?

7) (New) Signet of Cunning
Signet. Passive Effect: Increases the Efficiency of your Stuns and Dazes by 40%. Removes Condition on you, when you interrupt a foe.
Active Effect: Heal yourself and gain for 4 seconds Protection and Stability.

what exacly do you mean by “efficency” of a stun or daze?

8) (New) Viper Venom
Venom: Heal yourself and apply Viper Venom on your Weapons. For the next 10 seconds whil your critical hits daze enemies and apply Poison, if the enemy suffers on more than 3 Stacks of Poison. While Viper Venom is applied to your Weapons deals Poison 50% increased Damage and reduces Healing from Enemies by 50% instead of 33%

as far as I can understand what it does it sounds kinda op….

9) (New) Stigma of Twilight
Steal. Heal for the next 5 seconds yourself periodically while you are in the near of Enemies. The Heal gets stronger, so more Enemies are in your near. You Steal with your next Steal the Healing Skill of your Target, that will get set into Cooldown then and convert up to 3 Conditions over to your Target.

setting any enemy skill on cooldown with steal is plainly op – other than that – its pretty much suicidal heal :P

10) (New) Assassination
Steal. Finish off a downed Target with your next Steal instantly, if that Downed Target was already lieing on the ground longer than 3 seconds, otherwise deal with your Steal some significant Damage. This Skill will work basically like a stronger Version of Mug as a Healing Skill, which heals you when you Steal, but this one just stronger, than Mug.

stronger version of utility skill, with added finisher for guys that lies on the ground long enought? nah not gonna work

12) “Saboteur” Disarming Mine
Gadget. Heal yourself and lay a Disarming Mine, which will launch foes away, weaken, bleed and burn them and remove two boons. Instant Kills all kinds of Minions on Explosion

13) “Swindler” Deceitful Blades
Conjure. Heal yourself and conjure a Pair of Dual Swords, your Deceitful Blades which will exchange your Weapon Skills with deceitful versions of the originals letting them have additional effects.

14) “Infiltrator” Mantra of Espionage/ Shadow Shroud
Mantra. Concentrate and charge a Shadow Spell, that will instantly cause at your Ground Target an enemy blinding Shadow Field that will Stealth allies and you get healed per stealthed Ally additionally on top of the Base Heal on usage of the Mantra’s Charges

15)“Ascetic” Inner Balance
Meditation. Meditate and find your Inner Balance, Heal yourself, Heal more, if your target had at the moment you used Inner Balance more health, than you. Shadow Step to your Target and perform a stunning blow to the heart, that will lead 3 seconds later to a knockdown, if the enemy used a Stun Breaker.This Skill sets the enemies Elite Skill on 10s Cooldown and you gain Alacrity, if you used Inner Balance at lesser than 50% health

that like 4 elite specialisations taken out of nowhere :P pretty big jump considering that they may have problem with having single elite spec per profession polished in details on launch, don’t ya think?

If you look at the last mastery for the Exalted (Wyvern defiance) it may give some info on the relation this species has with dragons (assuming gw defines wyverns as dragons).

I’m really sorry to be “that guy” but wywern is a kind of creature we will be facing in the jungle – there was hal of a blog at some point about them – iirc one was seen on the expac trailer

Sad Trinity is Sad

Contrast that to GW2 and you quickly realize – GW2 doesn’t have a Trinity, no, it simply has the Damage Role.

it actually has one trinity but its not so called “holy trinity of mmo”:
damage, control and support

In GW2 you stack on Boss, do as much damage as possible while dodging his/her/it’s big attacks and healing yourself if you get hit. What your teammates do is inconsequential.

as I agree that currently its meta it is not the only way of running dungeons
[while by “meta” I mean most popular solution to a problem used among playerbase]

You don’t have a Tank who is responsible for keeping the Boss in check.

Instead you have control to keep enemies from hitting you – blinds, stund, daze, launch knockback, fear, immobilise, cripple – the amounts of stuff one can put on enemy to control their movement on teh battlefield is long – its just not so commonly used because metazerg is still a thing and requires a lot less thinking – not mentioning actuall skill

You don’t have a Healer who is responsible for keeping the Team in health.
You don’t have a Support who is responsible for keeping Buffs and Debuffs on boss.

for both of these – you actually have support in here – if you don;t believe me then check out banner warior, anchor guardian, to name most popular support builds. there is a big chunk of boons that you can apply to your ally that saying that there is no support in this game is plainly wrong – but then its not as that visible in the first glimpse because support SPECIALISED builds are rare and many people forgets that that warrior or that guardian – while signing up for dps are in fact – damage-support hybrid (if you have noticed even metazerg is taking advantage of it – warriors with banner of dyscipline and banner of strengh, literaly any guadian with staff/gs loadout stacking might from the staff) – actually metazerg would not be as effective as it is WITHOUT those damage-support hybrids – and I’ve seen a way too much of dungeon teams running mostly metazerg wiped only because some guys forgot that they need to use more skills than smash autochain to keep up needed level of dps

Everyone does as much Damage as possible.

and if all of team were doing just that – metazerg would not be a thing because without mentioned above damage-support hybrids – namely – banner warrior and a way to stack up decent amount of might (by decent I mean at least that half of the stack :P)

It’s very much an individual experience.

If you run a Dungeon Or Fract as a Mesmer it’s the same as running it as Ele, or Necro or Ranger, etc. Everyone does Damage. Everyone has a Self-Heal. Everyone has Conditions. Everyone has Buffs. And so on.

that statement is plainly stupid – the ways to play them – depending on team build and dungeon may be extremely different – f.e. in CoF P1 there is a point where presence of mesmer really shortens said phase of dungeon (from like 30-60 seconds of skilled team without mesmer to like 5 seconds with mesmer that knows his thing)

not mentioning that untill recently ranger had not yet build that would be “officially” in community be labeled a a part of metazerg you are referign to.

also not mentioning that the way you play those professions is totally different – even if after all you can sum it up to dealing damage….
[aaand nope – not everyone has conditions – at least to viable levels :P – same with buffs]

So while the Trinity might be boring, lame, look stupid (and it really does) is GW2 any better, honestly? No.

actually it is – issue is that one certain familly of build in current state can greatly outperform all the others and thats why the really big amounts of possibilities are not considered by most of community at all

Run a Dungeon in a Trinity game and watch how the DPS role plays. That’s GW2.

GW2 didn’t kill the Trinity – it just dumped the Tank and Healer roles and made everything uniform.

thats very untrue statements first if you really believe that all how players plays in gw2 is like people played dps role in mmos with trinity – you haven’t ever seriously play dps in trinity mmo – at least not on the level even close to serious

on the other one – GW2 replaced old boring trinity with its own “trinity” of damage, support, and control while giving ALL classes their own tools to try to fill these roles

Which has resulted in problems making hard content and engaging encounters.

This uniformity of role only gets worse when you add in the lack of variety in builds. Pretty much 90% of the playerbase is running the same exact build from traits to gear (Zerker).

you see there is a huge fallacy in here – there is a huge differnece between existnce of variety of good builds and “what biggest part of playerbase is actually using”

Metazerg while used correctly is just extremely effective and not requiring much skill to pull it out succesfully – but there are out there team build that also are effective, either on similar level to metazerg or not falling really much behind – issue with them is though that they require huge amounts of both skill and coordination to pull out – and thats not something you can count for when grouping up with randoms for daily dungeon…..

Living World Season 2 - Removal?

Living Story Season one was atempt at making tyria more “alive” via chain of events that from the very beginning were meant to occur only once. But after that ArenaNet realised that it may not be best policy so season two was designed from the beginning to actually be replayable. at some point they were talking about how difficult would be make season one come back in a way allowing players that missed it to catch up, but after we got that cinematic summarising it I don;t thing that it will happen – for sure not to soon (but then from roleplaying standpoint that cinematic makes nearly no sense – the Pact commander is told about stuff he was supposed to participate t and is told that he/she have slained crazy sylvari…. yeah sure great idea :/ )

well actually imo the biggest issue of rangers shouts is that they’re not actually shouts even when labeled as shouts.

why?

Shouts from the beginning by default did not required any animation by themselves and coul be casted always – whenever in the middle of channeled skill or knocked down – as far as I can tell only protect me and search and rescue – 2 out of 6 ranger shouts works so – any other requires animation that breaks casting of current skills (oh and maybe sick ‘em but I’m not sure right now if it wasn’t using the same animation as guard)

I haven’t noticed that :o ….

-Anti zerg mechanics. Randomly placed monsters that reflect damage infinitely when a number of players are present. Or a trap that activates when X amount of players are in the area.

there is a waaaaay easier way to fix that one – full bodyblock mechanic outside of spawning areas in wvw?

zerg that cannot stack in one spot is no longer the zerg we hate….

-Forge being able to construct as a utility. Building walls, mountable cannons, etc. Something that would bring teamplay back into the game in interesting ways. (Old school mortar)

Check the wiki. He found a city, but it says nothing about it being golden.

in game was told quite clearly that it was golden city.

The forgotten we see in the Realm of Torment during Nightfall are ones that have been there since Abaddon’s fall, serving as his jailors.

We don’t know what happened to the Crystal Desert forgotten. They may have moved to the Realm of Torment, been wiped out by the Margonites, moved elsewhere, or still be hiding out in the Crystal Desert.

erm… again there was more than enought lines in nightfall and EotN claiming that all forgoten have moved out of “our plane of existence” and some claiming that they moves precisely to the realm of torment – to enforce the defenses so abaddon would not break away.

That’s what I did with all but one of mine. The rewards on any one run aren’t that great but if you get a ticket you can pick out a nice weapon skin, either for yourself or to sell. And it’s not like you’re going to use up those scrolls leveling alts. Might as well get some benefit from them.

The Whole stacking strategy needs to stop. So boring so Fricken stupid. Tired of people thinking that being a 10 armed freak is fun and best way to play the game. I hope this xpacs kills that play style.

of course from time to time when you have “perfect” squad it works – but as I had multiple dungeon runs where “good ol’ ways” were much better to use than this.

also to the guy who claims that DPS is only way worthy to play the game.

Final LS boss help needed

Ranger here.
I enjoyed the fight – in same way I enjoyed earlier encounter of that dragon.
ok I have to agree that some stuff was irritating like f.e. “Rox hurry up with giving fires cause shady is turnind them of as fast as I light them” (5 minutes of constant 2/4 of ring :P) and brahams shield failing – after all I decided that screw where braham puts his shield I will go with rampage as one/sig of the wild for stability

a little lenghty but interesting and chalenging fight – haven’t tried achievement run although I’m quite sure its gonna hurt

The buffs not lasting long, the dragon often is hitting me with one kitten kills, i am knocked over and “bandage” takes too long, I keep getting disrupted and running around trying kill shadows isn’t helping. Soon as I am knocked over, the dragons attacks knock me over and then wow all the fires are out. But for the love of all things, the battle takes far too long, regen too low, damage too high and please make it far easier. So many battles taking far too long. It is not entertaining at all to keep getting killed with one hit or having dragon hit you and put out the fires. It is not fun, fair or reasonable. What you want me spend two hours one ONE mission?

two advices:
first – don’t go solo on instance on berserk gear – seriously its a bad idea :P
second – it was supposed to be hard – ANe cannot make everything so easy that most of players will solo a fight while sleeping only because some players find it “too hard plz nerf”

and it was not dragon who put that fire off :P

aaaaand…. 2h hours on one mission? phi back in gw1 there were missions that took much more time – thats how challenging they were

Its too bad there wont be a Season 3 , HoT is basically closing whats going on with mordremoth.

What makes you so sure?

I could easily see them holding off with defeating Mordremoth and instead having us face its armies and crawl closer and closer to its base, and then release the actual fight against it via living story updates coming down the line.

There is nothing at all that suggest there will be no Living Story updates after HoT, even if we defeat Mordy with the expansion.

Probably too high price = more negative feelings ing in future. 50-.- I agree with u, not really with others.

Does HoT Requires base game?

I mean:
If I would like to buy a game at expac release for my friend with expac already included – do I have to buy both gw2 and HoT or HoT alone will do it?

yes you need the base GW2 game for HoT to work.

I dislike paying for season 2

I missed 4 episodes of season 2 – only 4 because from time to time I had a day I logged for a moment played soem stuf and left.

for the first phew moments when I was lastly replaying what I was supposed to play long time ago I was abit confused on story because I missed two first chapters.

do I rant about it?

nah – I know I could’ve login once every week but I didn’t do it willingly.
so now I only need to farm some more gold and hope that there will be no more nicey sales before I will unlock all of this

Guild halls – I suppose its gonna require the expac to claim – vel – any person that have right to claim such guild hall in a guild need expac to claim – after claiming I suppose everyone can normally use it

Revenant – obvious
specialistation – locked – for same reason that even if you had nightfall factions and EotN you coulnd’t get many skills from prophecies
heart of jungle – obvious

wvw borderline – open for all
mastery? I suppose it will require expac too

longbow, axe, before they added even more effects mace, shield, sword and dagger are fine. that is a fine level of exuberance.

so you say you are ok with shooting flowers instead of arrows?

I want legendaries to be actual legends. Items of lore meaning and value. Right now they are just shiny skins with lots of particle effects and a few convenience features. There is no lore to them.

IMO Sohothin and Magdaer are more legendary than the current crop. I want legendary weapons that were wielded by legendary heroes with legendary powers. Artifacts of power that were crafted from powerful beings like Caladbolg was crafted from the Pale Tree, or the blade wielded by Balthazar himself, Urgoz’s bow that has grown more powerful over the last 250 years, the Scepter of Orr, a shield made from Jormag’s scale or a staff fashioned from Zhaitan’s rib.

Send us on legendary journeys, learning tales of lore which root these powerful items in Tyria’s past or present. Make them feel like epic adventures and not just epic grinds.

To me, this should ensure legendaries avoid the novelty problems of the Dreamer, Moot or Quip. Items like the Flameseeker Prophecies are far cooler than generic flashy weapon skins.

I hope Arenanet doesn’t listen to you people. If you want more options that is fine but I for one like the dreamer too bad I hate the ranger and thief enough that I will never make it.

more options makes the world go round. Btw when they introduce The dreamer, the concept was to kitten off certain types of players at least that was what the Then Director implied.

did you not read anything in this forum page? More options are fine, but the shortbow and pistol are just awful, and the greatswords are just blades of light that just scream kitten a kitten i’m wielding sunshine or darkness.

longbow basically is a plant-bow shooting with flowers…….
shortbow shots unicorns (wait wut?)
pistol shots confetti
mace is discoball on a stick
axe is disqualified by a fact that axes are supposed to cut not bite
shield is nice
greatswords are ok
staff – depends on likings varies from ok to gay weapon :P (no offense intended ofc)
hammer…. aura looks weird
sword is tolerable
dagger… lets nto comment that one

Ahh, yes. Thank you for the correction. It’s been a few years and it was dark in that dungeon! (Not that it bothered our guide, since she was blind anyway).

technically it was not dungeon but realm of torment :P
also technically its not been even months down there

Final battle and trailer almost made me sick

I case of boss fight with shadow of the mordremoth.

It’s been long and my two biggest concern was – braham your buble is failing each time it actually should help.

Rox? you know? you don’t have to hurry with next divine fire – wait a little bit longer so that shadowy things will turn down all the circle I’ve managed to lit :P

about cinematic – I makes perfect sense to me – dude this dragon is assumed to not be fully awaken yet (a little bit sleepy) and already has its tenrdils in Iron marches which is darn far away.

lets compare how the fights with elder dragons looked liek by now:
with zhaitan we had 20 years of stusies over him for our side we managed to starve him a little and we had super-mega-laser-anti-zhaitan beam canon developped

still was tought and lasted long

Mordremoth:
we had…..

BIG FLEET

aaaand…
even more fleet?

ah and we assumed that as hes not yet fully awakened he will not be that strong yet.

crap we didn’t even know his exact location

how anyone would suppose that big area bombardment from the air would be good tactics agains elder dragon we know very little about – but yet we know how fast those tendrils can grow (fort calma? fort concordia? the mere presence at iron marches so soon?)

It is a class, not a race. They will not get their own starting area.

Paragons and dervishes back in gw1 was also classes and If you played prop/faction earlier then they had different starting area than rest of classes you had :P

That’s not entirely true. Every nightfall character had the same starting area. Paragons and dervishes were exclusive to Elona so obviously they won’t start in pre-searing Ascalon. But you could create an already existing profession in nightfall and have the same starting area as the new profs.

They did not have an own starting area because they were added later or because they were “special” but because of the new continent coming with the expansion.

I know that you can also create nightfall warrior etc and still start in Elona I just found it great material to toss and couldn’t resist temptaion for a little trolling to see who will pickup it – sorry my bad ^^

OT I personally don’t care if revys are gonna get another starting area or not – I have already taken into consideration of my fanfic/fanlore about my revy the lazy scenario of “revy starts as everything else” – if revy will start other way then I’ll think about changes ^^

Boost to 80?

the only game I know that were doing it was WoW when it was increasing level cap with most of expansions and then offered to boost your character up to “old” level cap so you could immediatelly move on the expac content – GW2 in not increasign level cap so the only possible reason I’d find for starting with level 80 is to give players “possibility” to head straight to heart of the jungle with revy….. on the day the expac will launch – and even if anet will not do so I am sure that there will be more than planty of such players…..

New Allies: Mursaat

They resemble mursaat a crapton more than they resemble Seers or Forgotten due to basic body types.

Matgonites and Djinn are fairly safely out too, being Elona stuff and having absolutely nothing to do with the meguuma area or the dragons (whereas the mursaat have to do with both).

Well, Glint, the zephyrites originated from the crystal desert which is fairly close to Elona. And the Master of Peace was heading to the jungle as well for some reason. (Which I still don’t understand)

she didn’t originated from crystal desert she just had lair there “meanwhile”

we cannot know were Glint originated except the simple only fact that she originated from an elder dragon Kralkatorrik

and in the jungle was: Mordy, confirmed bloodstone (at least used to be somewhere there), the remnants of Mursaat – ancient POWERFULL race
(they probably have somekind of stuff that can make using egg even possible)

btw they only listed “Major features” on Pax and interviews later

keyword: “Major features” with special underlining for a word “Major”

f.e. they didn’t mentioned anything about dungeons but I can’t see any logical way to finish elder dragon that dung story mode – like they have done with zhaitan at Arah. but such a thing is not major feature comparing to guild halls new class whole new area mastery system etc. – actually when we compare single dungeon to that stuff I’d say dungeon will end as a quite a minor feature to me. if we even can call new dungeon a “feature” at all.

we don’t know everything that the exp will give us we only know the iggest shiniest things about it that have been chosen to increase our hype.

knowing ANet exp may be twice or even trice of what they said – just all the rest is nothing big enought to call it “major feature”

I doubt they will be available in WvW as it would break the game completely.

Also wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if its a quick mode of transportation from one fixed point to another in PvE. If they are like in Archeage, it would break all existing PvE maps as well. Only available on the new map perhaps? Which means that skins are pretty pointless haha.

yeah on currently existing WvW maps gliders should not be available to use for the same reason that teleporting skills have so limited reach and requires full line of sight to use….. – whats the point of wall when everyone of enemy army can just ignore it and teleport/glide over/whatever else as if they were not there at all…
