Dedicated healer class?

Control, damage, SUPPORT
/endthread

wel lrpoblematic thing is that this new “support” subclass in way of "supporting stuff has:
90% – heals
10% condi removals

kitten me If there are not quite a few not support focused builds on current base classes that have a way more variety of supporting abilities

[any guardian has already more variety no matter if he wants it or not, and pretty much any damage-support hybrid builds are giving out more support in more ways than heal spam and rare few condi removals….]

so if now AN is calling a specs that is farting heals removing some condis on rare ocasions and call it “heavy suport” the concerns of OP are totally justified

especially when in the same show they announce that they will bring, now officially undodge’able stuff on the table (to get rid of zerker mete – btw all daredevils out ther says thank you on that specific point because evades are primary and only way of defense of said specialisation but we are on ranger now sooooo :P)

I was refering to the moment when they said incoming stuff that players will not be able to shrug off “by simply evading it”

truth is that in current form druid IS a dedicated healer

and at some point 3 years ago they promised no dedicated healers…..

Healers reward

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Lord Trejgon.2809

There are no healers

Someone hasn’t been keeping up with current events…

As far as i heard, druids heal by dealing damage….

Actually your wrong, and sadly off by a landslide….

Druid pretty much 1-2 dmg skills w/staff everything else is heal heal heal, as for the glyphs and crap, heal buff slight buff, and no dmg

So all in all, they pigeon-holed the druid to exclusively heals, even priests in other games get more damage skills

so lets grab the staff skills here ok?
1: Solar Beam: Fire a concentrated beam of light, damaging the targeted foe and healing allies inside of the beam.

keywords? “damaging targeted foe”

2: Astral Wisp: Send a wisp to attach to your foe. While attached it will circle the foe, healing allies it passes through.

from screenshots of tooltip I recall damage stat hmm really weird :P
[3 is positioning/heal tool]

4: Vine Surge: Send forth vines that immobilize enemies and cleanse conditions from allies. – good enought to grab loot at least – also iirc tooltip from screenshots from the stream mentioned bleeding…..

5 is pure trolling against projectile enemies at its best although no damage so does not contribute to getting loot (which should nto be a problem basing alone on AA skill 2 and 4)

traits:
- for the sake of keeping it short and clean I’ll list only the ones taht contributes onb issue of op:
Primal Echoes: Reduces recharge of staff skills. Daze nearby foes when you swap to staff.
afaik dazes also contributs to getting loot from mobs
Ancient Seeds: Striking a stunned, dazed, knocked down, or launched foe summons roots to entangle them.
if its not combat trait I dunno what it is

glyphs….
Glyph of the Tides – pushing and pulling was contributing for loot last time I checked…
Glyph of Empowerment: Increase outgoing damage of nearby allies. – I would have to check again onb it but last time I checked – which was pretty long time ago so I can be wrong on that – empowering ally was giving you credit for loot
Glyph of Equality: Daze nearby foes. – same as staff trait – dazes are usually enought to get yer loot
Glyph of Alignment: Damage and apply conditions to nearby foes. – that looks like totally damage skill
and then lets not forget that druid is still a ranger and by this have access to:
any ranger weapon he likes on weapon swap
PETS – as these may be hated idea in our community – pets are damaging foes and giving player contribution to get his loot

this was for OPS concern mostly – now to adress your point about pigeon holing – every druid is at first a ranger class where druid is only one of three specialisations (elite one though so more impactfull than the rest by itself) within the class – the specialisation itself does not need any more “damaging tools” because base ranger even with 2 specialisations to choose from have more than enought of them to work.

so if instead of taking the specialisation of of class context you compare full options of ranger deciding to go druid – he will have a way more offensive options than literaly any priest out there…..

Resistance only suppresses for a few seconds, it doesnt really counter condi that much to be effective and only few classes have some what of access to it.

actually who has it in core game?
I’ve seen the boon description but never seen it being used

also I’d add that we have a boon that makes player ignoring physical damage while still doing nothing to conditions so considering that I’ agree with op to make protection giving reduction to both

[then we have – few seconds of total immunity for physical damage with 100% condition application → some small reduction to both → immunity for condies with
100% physical application]

It should have been Sentinel instead of Dragon Hunter, that would’ve fit the class more, with wells instead of traps that give buffs to allies and condis to ennemies, improved virtues and CC Longbow skills…

afaik elite specs were supposed to be sideways of the main class not straight upgrade :P

in Ranger

Lord Trejgon.2809

Actually those two skills weren’t shouts until the june balance patch. As the mechanics are not the same: the utility shouts only affect the pet behaviour while “Heal as One” and “Strength of the pack” affect mainly the ranger.

So actually i don’t see the need for them to change.

and I wonder which “genius” came up with “strenght of the pack” instead of rampage as one.

the old name was was better and even makes more sense when converted to shout in same manner as heal as one was – “we rampage as one!” shouted on the battlefield makes a way more sense than shouting “strenght of the pack”…..

Lord Trejgon.2809

every time I see someone saying that is just “stating unbiased opinion” I assume its actualy biased opinion :P

dunno why…..

but back on topic – that really depends on guild bro – did you really excpect that AN will somehow “force” organosation on guilds? every guild leader is leading his guild however he/she wants and if you don’t like how one guild works – just go to the other guild that will suit your likings more.

about “people use guilds to get away with stuff that would not be tolerated in pugs.” – in pugs a hellalota amounts of things that actually WORKS are not tolerated because pugs often have barely any idea what they are doing – also when running with pugs the potential teamwork is minimal if even exist lowering amounts of stuff that works – something that would work out perfectly when you are in a team with guildies and you use ts or other voice chats to coordinate it – will not work at all with pugs – not mentioning some really crazy ideas that sometimes pugs get out with….

pugs goes with the meta that is most popular at the point – while guild runs consists of other viable ways and sometimes also – better ways – but requiring a little bit of teamwork and coordination to pull out…

It’s the most cowardly class in any game I have ever played with little to no draw backs.

But again, WHO CARES? There is no advantage to gain from “poof reset,” it’s just “not losing,” but it’s still not winning either. There are far more annoying tactics other classes get which allow them to actually stay in the fight and continue to harm you.

actually if he comes back immediatelly after this again – then he has advantage from resetting the fight…… (hint hint: initiative kills vs cd based skills)

1st: Stealth can’t be removed once activated and in the same list you reference revealed. Do you NOT know that removes stealth, and prevents it from being applied.

issue is that the most of existing skills applying revealed are targeted long cd short revealed skills so not only if you want to count it “countermeasure” you need to apply it in fractions of seconds before he will want to cast a stealth – but also means that once in stealth you cannot break it – only thing you can do is to predict where he is and spam AoE’s there…

with one single exceptien of new elite specialisation of engineer posessing access to toolbelt skill that is AoE reveal.

My fantasy is that one could order a bird to fly up and attack an upper cannon.

You came to the game a few years too late. Pets used to be able to do that, they also had more health and a much larger leash range.

I always chose me pet swap carefully, weight their strenghts and weaknesses against what task I’ll have them to perform although I do that on the level of creating a build not just before encounter – and usually I don’t have much issues with keeping them alive during boss encounters with exception to big huge events of world boss smashing but then to be honest – world bosses are just not ranger piece of cake (actually any zerged content is just not within our area of specialisations) I haven’t run fractals with a ranger as all of my agony resistance landed on guardian alt so I can’t tell about issues there.

and yes I see issues, one issue for example is what ArenaNet have done to nature spirits. But thats only issue that is actually bugging me in ranger – although improvements to pet AI, giving them ability to evade telegraphed atack etc. would be always nice to see

tht may actually be more problematic than good – as currently all of support skills have limit of targets affected (5) and if they count on same priority on receiving them as player then in potential team of 5 scrappers it would not be so rare to see someone throwing a boon totally intercepted by bots with no other player than caster gets the boon :P

team of 5 rangers of the other hand…..

[ah wait do ranger even have boons he can throw around to a friendlies?]

so team of 4 rangers and a guardian on the other hand :P
and the odds of any boon from guardian missing any of ranger players (assuming all of the actually being in range) are extremely small :P

I wonder how OP would feel if the bonus and final VW chests were limited to once per day like world bosses…

tbh I thought they are…….

Marksmanship - Lead the wind?

in Ranger

Remorseless is much better than LtW.
Lead the Wind just affects your Longbow, and only reduce your CD that is not that long and add pierces. The 15% reduction in attack speed is not noticeable.

actually it is noticeable….

Piercing is more a problem than a virtue because will aggro much more. Also with a weapon that has 1500 radius you can aggro a lot with that. It wouldn’t be the first time i die in wvw because while fighting a player a aggroed everything around me.

never found this to be issue – maybe you should pickup your battles being more aware of your surroundings?

Because the ranger have only one melee weapon the greatsword you will be using the trait that improve the CD. This trait also gives you Fury which has synergy with that trait. Also other sources of fury (swap pet, survival skills when traited) will help to proc the trait.

The build to use with that trait would be: WS – MS – BM. Focused in power build ofc.

I don’t deny your build to be good and with internal synergy but then again I’d argue if it is actually so much better that you claim it to be….

considering how many rangers that have no idea what they are doing I’m meeting in game I’d not name the class “easy” to play…..

I think it is a class a lot of people start with. It’s come to a point, actually, where I see another ranger, and immediately think it’s a new player.

and then bam, the guy that mains ranger for 3 years now :P

but then again even for me seeign ranger that knows what he is doing is uncommon view at least – if not even rare….

One can dream.... (about druid stuff)

in Ranger

tbh I find ranger far more mobile than guardian – I mean in averaged scenario.
the only way guardy could outrun decently build ranger was if he could somehow sustain perma swift… ah righ ranger has that capability on few builds already….

The problem there is they gave the guardian the ability to teleport, sadly I have seen guardians teleport the range of a longbow instantaneously… which in my eyes is a little excessive or well… not appropriate for a “melee/tanky/paladin type”

Judge’s intervention 1200 range pretty long cd ground targeted, meditation, teleport with aoe burn – not full longbow range – not even full 1200 range because you land in the middle of burn circle which have to fit fully into 1200 range

its hard to outrun teleporting around…..and only ground targeted teleport I’m aware of has too short cooldown for ranger to not be able to make up for said teleport….

that’s mainly the issue, I can understand the Mesmer with a teleport/displacement as that is what they are supposed to be capable of class-wise.

However a thief nor a paladin should be capable of such feats of magic. Thieves already have the advantage of long stealth durations.

shadowsteps bro are totlly thief-rogue kind of stuff – also I’m not awar of any shadowstep with more that 60 range while the only ground targeted one eats alot of initiative….

I’d also argue about lack of sustainability especially if you consider thief having one (sustainability I mean) its really easy to make a build for ranger that will have more regeneration that anyone will ever need with few really nice heals at disposal… also we have evasions on both swords and even dagger where gs also fields block – we also have utilities for evades/damage mitigation like lightning reflexes (evade) and signet of stone (damage mitigation) – we even have a 3seconds stealth on longbow ^^

The problem with the skills you have provided is that they do not contribute to actually prolonging death, I have seen warriors regain full health bars, guardians regain full health, necromancers who somehow are capable of 3 total health bars with their upcoming reaper additions. Sure the added toughness is good sometimes, maybe the jump back… but when the other classes have low cd roots/teleport etc… etc… it becomes a moot point of taking such.

well if constant regeneration of healt hand one of shortest cd healing skills around are not “prolonging death”….

while mentioning singet of stone I meant active effect – for phew secodns you do not receive any damage

[PS. although I don’t want druid to be anything even remotely close to insane-mega-op-must-have-thing – because then everybody will try to run it and I dont like the folks playing my fav class only because of how op it is…..]

Too true on your P.S, level 80 ranger here, hard leveled…

What honestly burns me as a ranger additionally, is the fact that necromancer/elementalist/engineer – have/will have pets/summons additional to their class while rangers got penalized ~20% strength for being a pet class.

well I don’t feel penalised much on that matter – but then I’m weird guy that is making weird uses of his pet and by accident it happens to work :P

Aside from the fact the necromancers pets can stun/bleed/root etc etc. Which should not be a thing.

they did so in gw1 so I don;t really see why they shouldn’t now…

Honestly I just want to see the ranger become a stronger independent class that doesn’t have to prove anything to the classes that denied it any respect xD

I don’t think it have to prove anything right now – if anyone in game is criticising me playing a ranger then with few exeptions I just assume they don;t know what they are speaking about :P

[few exceptions for example: when I go fractals with my ranger – I haven’t build my ranger to be viable on fratcals – my guardy alt was built for that purpose]
