I guess a lot of devs came ond gone in the timeline of gw2. And the new team got some revolutionary ideas about how gw2 and its pvp should look like.
A lot of people might like the way the game evolved and the new people who just start might be satisfyed with what they have found, but i liked the game more the way it was originally designed. You can call me behindhand, but i feel like a lot of oldschool players who still remember how the game was before juni(2015) think the same.

I know this wont ever happen unless someone gets his/her hands on the thorwback server files, couse ANet doesnt like to look back, but i still wanna hear your opinions.

I’ve seen so far, I dont recognize this game.

No wonder. Game is out of control since a ~year or so.
Devs got zero ideas how theyr random ideas influence pvp and they got zero intent on changing, finetuning new features, nor do they care about it.
Class balance team (i strongly doubt there truly is one) and PvP dev team is separated by the grand canyon filled by acid and swimming gozillas.

But Nothing is guild specific in this game which I believe it should be. I think a remake of WvW where it is a smaller scale maybe the size of one BL or smaller have different Guilds face each other have a tier/ Ranking system and also make a sPvP game mode that focuses on Guilds.

Maybe a gamemode where you can fight against another guild! where both of you got a guild lord and lose if it dies?

we could talk about if the enviromental changes from last big patch where good or not(forest mid etc…) for thief in general….
But when i noticed that sword2 jumpcast was “fixed” i literally almost cryed.
At least i could hang my character up on a jump immob rope. Can’t say much…. get your sh** together pls.

The first obvious issue is matching premades with solo players.

Making leagues solo/duo queue is something we’ve discussed. We’re open to doing a beta of it, but we’d likely put it to a poll and have the community decide. We probably wouldn’t run a premade-only arena at the same time as there’s not enough 5-mans actively q’ing during a season to make the queue times reasonable.

the first obvious issue is that you are creating multiple indicators for player-skill to enharden your matchmaking work. You had and still have issues… why make your own work harder?
Innovation is cute and everything but i’d stick to a single numerical 1→2k scale for simplicity.

I don’t see anymore Thief videos anymore like before so that’s also kind of a bad sign.

lack of videos is due to how hard is to make a difference in this game. there is little to no chance to make real big plays that could shown in a video. Also the majority of the over decent thief players who made videos left the game.

- How is WvW?
you are useless in big scale combat, but the class is still good for roaming and small group fighting

- How is the PvP?
The meta D/P build got some decent matchups and you can soloq with it at any level and prty much carry the game if you are good enough.

- Is the Thief more fluid than October?
what do you mean by fluid? If i compare the stealth camping shadow arts builds from before HoT and the endless dodge impact spammer Daredev then it is 300% more fast-paced.

- Do we have to roll Daredevil because of increased competition?
kind of. I’d say the best build w/o daredevil is 40% less effective.

- How about its survivability and how dangerous are anti-steal counters?
Also please rate the Thief out of 10.
Survivability is insane and dumber than ever, all the new dodges are broken by design, not to mention the new heal. About steal.. you gonna land it if you are careful. Everyone is spamming everything they got on the skillbar, you can find animations for it any time.
I wouldn’t rate the class, there is no point. If you want to indicate how viable it is in pvp combat then 10/10.

They do it on a quarterly fashion (every 3 months). Dunno what you want, as it has always been this way. Always, even before HoT.
You know what? I actually like that they aren’t more communicative. Otherwise ppl in PvP forums would just tear everything they say into shreds. There are problems with the game, but those problems won’t go away if people trash the developers. That is also probably why they don’t post more. They are scared and for good reason.

The amount and quality of changes they where able to acomplish in those quaterly changes where rather dissatisfying since ever.
what u want? I guess more frequent and thought through changes considering there still are billions of untouched design flaws brought by hot or from before.

I get 100 times the obstructed steals and no line of sight shadowsteps of the usual amount. The kitten happened recently? u tried to correct smth and kitten up?
Pair this with some (coug cough some….) no valid paths, absurd aftercasts and it gonna feel that there is no need to plan anything, your char wont follow your orders anyway.
No wonder everyone is using button smash builds, there is no more place for brain in this game anymore.

Gj ANet u succeded in kittening off both casuals and competitive ppl with all your actions recently, or rather lack of actions and decisions. Gl in scrapping the game’s pvp, it wont be easy. Do me a favour and send me a mail if you actually decided what your goal with pvp is.

The Lesh Prince recently developed some tech that makes skill-splitting more feasible than it was previously – you’ll see some PvP (and PvE) splits in the next balance update. It’s important to understand that changes will still need to be global, but we’ll definitely have a bit more flexibility moving forward.

Keeping parity between modes when possible is important to us – but when it’s not feasible we’ll look at splits.

Welcome to GW2 forums. Not to be a kitten or anything but Anet as you may know it from golden times of GW1 is gone. The new Anet doesn’t care (apart from maybe like 3 people which visit this subforum once per year) about problems with GW1, GW, or you as a paying customer (unless problems are PvE related).

Did the game waste it’s potential? Yes. Will a more balanced pvp bring people back? Just the few that still lurk the forums, yeah, but back to 2012 levels with old school gw1 players and its potential? Never again. I’m personally confused what the pvp team does in general because they don’t do balance, that’s relegated to the “balance team” we haven’t had any new maps since skyhammer and got a failed gamemode which is still in ranked queue. The thing I’m curious about the most is since the “pvp team” isn’t in charge of balance… what have they really been doing?!

Same applyes to the balance team if there is one. Ok maybe they are incompetent in balancing while maintaining build diversity couse they lack on actual gameplay experience in pvp couse they focus on pve or wvw. This statement is hilarious itself couse pve balance is nowhere the majority of skills traits and weapons are beyond useless compared to the optimal ones. Now tell me whats the priority.

oh god…. Yes the list i made includes some non-passive traits.
A trait being non passive does not mean that it’s not problematic. Instants are part of the against-mechanics family in this game, they share the same flaws with insta-procs, they allow close to zero amount of counterplay.
The reason they are complayned less than others can be guessed easy. The majority of them are handled by your instaprocs.

I will chime in technically the Daredevil dodges are not Passives, they are dodge replacements, you have to actively use the dodge to benefit from them, they don’t automatically just work.

noone wrote that they are passives. they are just bypassing counterplay elements of the combat system, therfore badly designed.

There are 2 more HoT(daredev) additions that changed thief roles but according to the devs this was by design and this is not necessarely bad but i want to mention it here couse it is a part of powercreeping the d/p.
This is the evasiveness that comes with Daredevil.
First, the not that bad things are the dodges that are comming with DD where the motto of sword-acro builds before the expansion. You needed both of these to succeed with an evasive-themed build. I welcome D/P in this family couse i support evasion based gameplay over stealth camping \o/. You have to admit though that this traitline offers TOO much dodges. just too much. There is little difference in your evasiveness depending on your main weapon.
The worse part are the “ELITE” dodges. 2 of them are staight up broken on d/p

  1. Dash offers perma swiftness. well yep this is already really good. your mobility is brutal with this trait, well worthy of a grandmaster. The thing is i’d stop this trait right here. but it removes snares with no icd. Worst part is that it removes immob. There is no need for evading abilitys with immob. you dont need to know what applyes immob. you just dodge like you normally would and get away. This renders an incredibly amount of skill from the game. Immob wasn’t thorwn around in the golden days of befor-juny and landing immobs was a way to stop thieves momentum. Getting immob isnt “death”, thief had many cards to play, headshot or blind the incomming burst, switchin to sb->#3 or #5 or both, clensing it with signet, etc. Now you don’t even have to think
  2. Bound. At the pace you can spam evades with DD the damage buff is on you most of the time. 10% damage is the average of what executioner offers, which is a GM trait. If you land 1 damage proc from it to lets say only 1 target every 10sec(natural regen time of a dodge but in reality you can dodge every ~4 sec in permanent successions) for ~3k dmg. In that period of time you deal ~20k damage to that person. Assuming this, the end resoult is that Bound gave you ridiculous sum of ~25% damage boost. I’d stop here in development but Bound makes applying initial #5&leap stealth uninterruptable. Yep that’s bad design couse it leaves no counterplay. So hmm it’s prty kitten strong too.

What you miss:
many of the listed traits offer an unavoidable effect.
You can see it comming yes, you evade the next shadowshot so you don’t get panic striked, but what is it’s use if the next autohit poc’s it anyways couse it’s still off cooldown.
Same goes to chill of death, ancient seeds etc. You dodge one cc then dru lands an instant one and still gets the effect(also 10 sec cd wtf). Most of the on hit sigils or engi burn passive is the same. You evade a key skill to neglect damage, but what you evade matters little, couse any random tickleing attack can proc a brutal effect that demolishes you.

So, you want a dev to spend time making new skins for every color and model of accessory instead of working on something that players actually care about?

FYI this change takes few hrs to make in a ‘ok’ engine. you basicly add some already existing color patterns to a blueprint. New skins what? the sculptures remain the same no matter what color you select on them.

This, however, cannot be done because one, the dmg for this weapon is so low, it does not create enough pressure to where my enemy feels uncomfortable.

This, dear Sir, is not true.

A little damage buff and a rework of skill 3 is really not a lot to ask for, especially when you consider the power creep we’re in.

and your answer to power creep is to add more power somewhere else. Decent. This is why this game is suffering atm.

Changing the trait system on June 23rd. It drastically lowered build diversity and creativity, which is part of the reason we see everyone running the same builds.

Myself and my friends used to play GW2 PvP every day at least for a few hours. We did the AG tournaments when we didn’t have schedule conflicts. I would watch the ESL Sunday tournaments most of the time.

Then HoT came and killed it all. The power creep was and still is ridiculous. HoT elites are far too forgiving of mistakes and spam, which allows them to carry most players. Picking the meta build has completely eclipsed skill, and even if everyone is meta, skill is barely noticeable or meaningful.

We mostly skipped season1. Got legendary in season2 after about a month, but quit again due to the terrible state of PvP (matchmaking is awful too). Now we’ve pretty much quit for good.

If ANet nerfs the elite specs to not be brain-dead OP, we’ll consider coming back. I still love the base mechanics of the game, and I’m sure my friends do too. But we have zero faith in ANet ever balancing elite specs.

s/d is perfect as it is i think. d/p and s/d are totally different in play sets but d/p should beat s/d because of the nature of burst from d/x. if there is anything i would change is probably shadow shot… 4 inative for a 900 range port – blinds – unblockable and the avg thief in wvw can deal 5k dmg to an enemy power build. but thats a different story.

What? You don’t even play S/D so how in the world can u say it’s perfect? Lol. S/D is a step or 2 below D/P and staff. Saying it’s perfect says a lot about your competency in this game.

2 step bellow d/p and staff in what? burst damage? ye maybe. Imo “perfect” here means that does not need changes i think, where i can 100% agree.

was rage talking about this ~10 minutes before on TS.
B2P modell fks over a rewolutionary and genius game design is really saddening.
Maybe it’s ANet mby it’s NCSoft or B2P modell i dont care. Every time i get tilted about faults in design or patches in gw2 it’s not couse these decisions are straight kitten, it’s becouse of the again wasted potential that this game has.

Also on that topic, I am very ambivalent towards proleagues

On topic, i’m pretty sure pro league is going to be shut down after this season. The intrest in watching pvp fall by ~50% or more in the recent 6 months.
Not that surprising after people where forced to watch completely skilless-boring gameplay and HoT pwercreep(still an issue) for months.
I dont want to bash the calss design/balance team but would it be hard to ask for help from people who are actually playing theyr game on a competent level before releasing the bloody patches?

I would avoid further buffs. S/D damage and survivability is ok. D/P having more burst is ok too couse s/d can meenage more direct pressure allowing more sustained damage. This playstyle and its sw#2 allows similar but different gameplay than d/p. The only games where it’s hard to be effective with s/d is where you are up against a d/p whith similar skill levels. Other than that it’s 100% que viable.

ANet’s decision on this matter can be accepted in my openion. I usually study/read forums/play a save-able game during my que times.
This is not a sollution for most of the players it seems so i’d like to argue in theyr name.

If this change was made by ANet to avoid new pvp players not setting up pvp builds before hopping into que, would it not be logical to keep this restriction to these newcommers?
Following this idea, people who are able to que ranked (reached at least pvpLvL20) would be able to que from anywhere. (There could be a popup message “double check your equipped pvp build before continueing!” if you want to make sure noone makes a mistake)
If this is not strict enough for you, there are other options. Like people above r20 could leave HotM after starting the que.

I believe these changes (~20 rows of code) require less effort than adding mystic forge, 4-5 portals, crafting stations with NPCs, etc… to the mists.
