To all of you saying they wouldn’t give the same weapon to more than one specilaization. I believe the revenant shield spec (glint) will be the revenants elite spec. Meaning it would share the same elite spec with Mesmer.
In addition to that, there will be more elite spec in the future and at some point weapons WILL overlap so its a moot point in the long run. Take that with the already leaked evidence of staff models and the backdrop in thief colors and you can say fairly certainly that its gonna be staff. Also noteworthy is that with the introduction of melee staff on revenant they already got some new animations which they might reuse for thief skills.

No usually I just run through without boons. I join pugs regardless of the party comp so we don’t always have guardians or thieves to make running easier. I just dodge stuff.
I mean I even solo the scepter piece gathering on Hodgins’ path in AC without bothering to bring any stability or stun breaks on my necro.
If you think boons are required for running past mobs you have a lot to learn.

I do fractals with any group comp, idc. I mentioned AC because the running parts are full of enemies that knock down.
I haven’t touched Arah since I got Dungeon Master but I did it on my necro and had no issues running past mobs there either.

Lich claws are omni-directional lol…they hit even if the target is behind you, there’s no need to turn. Reason why I don’t use Chilling WInd is because its buggy and there’s no use if I can’t see them or they’re blocking or have stab, etc. Sometimes it has its uses sure, but the point of this video was meant to show that Lich can be countered by the mechanics that are in place for every class.
- Also, yes people are blowing their defensive cooldowns but, at the same time they’re dealing damage to me, after Lich is over the fight is not entirely in my favor. Also Lich is a 3 min cooldown, while none of the defensive cooldowns are that long. But again, not the point of the video, its just meant to display the plethora of counters available for every class to deal with Lich, provided the user doesn’t panic.

dmg is fine. LAc strike 12k auto attacsk 5k and 3rd auto attack 7k.This isnt the problem.You need more surivivable utilities and anet shove it all.

Ranger gets ranged magic staff so even with melee staff that is still a different weapon plus there is a data-mined picture of a staff wielding thief. Debate solved.

Let me try again : it’ll look dumb as hell to see a thief autoattack with a dagger while he has a sword in his other hand doing nothing.
They can do animation for it,just as they do with any other x/sword stuff.
look at mesmer,it will be really wierd doing sonfusion images with sword OH and they made it ok,Blurred frenzy would have looked wierd with offhand sword doing nothing and they made it look ok.

Scepter and Mace aren’t small at all. Not like a dagger or a pistol is.

We won’t be getting offhand sword anytime soon because main hand pistol/dagger (small) + an offhand sword (big) will look weird as hell.

As for the Spear, please take note that the weapon is highly evasive so the trait makes sense for it. Also it seems ANet said that no underwater weapon was coming for land usage.
Nobody at ANet said the specialisatios would get different weapons. In fact, it’s highly unlikely already since it seems Revenant gets a Shield which Mesmers get too. Also, Elementalists just got the same utility types as Necromancers, Shouts.

You completely missed the point of the person you cited. What you complain about is balance issues. I.e.: stuff can be unbalanced, either overpowered or underpowered.

Also, Thieves still kill Mesmers nicely. Honestly the only difference is that you now have to approach Mesmers like other classes, i.e.: care about the enemy. Instead of just HS-spam-to-win.

To respond to my 25(?) Day old thread.
This question was asked because during the patch week. The first thing people did, was complain about mes damage and mes stealth,. Ignoring other classes that could do close to the same or better damage and stealth. I made this post to ask and find out why, when everyone was in the phase of learning, that some people who “claimed” to be mesmer mains wanted everything nerfed. Before a new meta could even blossom.
Over the past few weeks I am thankful that A-net didn’t completely cave into the whine.
I am also grateful to the people in the mesmer community that tested more things and identified more things that could be changed to put the class in line vs just blindly nerfing everything.
So some community things I think we can all agree or come to an agreement on.
CS needs to have a longer ICD
BD needs to be fixed to be dodgeable and blockable
PU needs to buff stealth duration possibly a flat 2seconds.
Veil needs to be buffed
Our staff trait needs to be buffed or give a flat reduction.Bugs need to be fixed for everyone.
I think almost everyone has come to terms that this damage output for all classes may be the new direction gw2 is going. And I make that assumption because of the world boss changes, and I’m betting we will see that change spread to the rest of the game.
P.S.
I have noticed more people coming up with unconventional builds to deal with this burst meta.

I was just rambling about the trait that says if we have a spear equipped, it would recharge steal by a static amount. If that’s aimed at underwater combat or not. If not, spear is our “new” weapon. But again, spear is something we already have, and if all classes get’s a brand new weapon, that’s not it :P

Have you noticed the trait in acrobatics, “Swindlers Equilibrium”, where it says: “successfully evading an attack while wielding a sword or SPEAR recharges steal by a static amount”
We allready have a spear, but that’s underwater. You think they added it in there for underwater combat – which sucks and we all know it?

warrior-most likely will get pistol or focus(my bet on pistol)
Engineer-hammer
And since we already have shortbow and pistol.We have two options:rifle,focus,torch,axe or sword.
I will be very disappointed if it will be rifle.
focus and torch is by default OH so most likely OH weapon,but I think it gonna be OH sword,duelist.

it can be,the dagger third attack does high dmg + guard could have that symbol of wrath give 10% more dmg trait,and might+vurnability + necro trait that gives extra 20% dmg under 50% health+ my power necro can have 3k power and 1k ferocity with wvw stacks all fits.

you do realise that thief hp pool is in the core lower than what it should be for the low hp proffesion (ele got more)
You know ele is a good exmaple for this.
Ele is 1 of professions that has so much sustain & tough to kill.
But as u see ele has super low hp and they still survive so well thats because they have good traits/utility skills weapon set skills thats helps sustain/survival. and thieves need those kind of buffs not just hp increase.
One of those two is welcoming havent said that buffing thieves utlities is bad,it can work aswell.
There always been thieves who said it was l2p while other said it is op like mesmers are torned today,and history showed us that thieves got nerfed in the end so I suspect mesmers will too eventually.

I’ve dueled this Edelweiss (Genesis.7693) guy which claimed thief always win 100% fight against necro. i played necro which was cookie cutter signet build from metabattle and he used d/p i won the duel 16-3. More like thief without using d/p wont even stand a chance against necro.
Necro is already in a good spot yet everytime i check necro forum people always complains. reveal debuff , stability , mobilities. Why not stop the greed? Seems like u guys just want to have everything and be more op like mesmer.
And seems like u guys dont know, thief now hits much harder yes but in return their survivability has been nerfed hard (trait stat bonus removed which result in -200 armor / healing power vitality.) and also practiced tolerence vitality nerf , SA line nerfed (SE , CIS GM) feline grace nerfed. which means its very squishy. Lets be honest Ele/Mesmer/Necro is top tier in pvp.

We should do a challenge,the first and fastest person to read all this topic replys,gains 100g .
If you are killing a thief in wvw, it’s because that thief is bad, or overcommitted. Thieves should never ever die in wvw, and rarely die in pvp (go watch good thieves, and tell me how many times they die a game). All our aoes don’t mean anything when they can stealth and port away, spam interrupts, and blind every few seconds. A good thief in wvw will chip away at your DS till it’s gone then go in for the kill, and there is very very little you can do about it. Also, even if it where the case that necros where gods of 1vs1 they would still be tough to take on a team because of all the problems in teamfights.
I tend to think the only people saying necro is strong are people who say this based off of strictly their experience. Necros, like every class, can do great when you aren’t playing really good people. When you start to fight people who can dodge all your 3/4 second casts, coordinate burst, and use their cooldowns efficiently you start to see why necros are bottom tier. Also, most if not all of the game balance should be around top tier play (with the exceptions being things like turret engi which was simply infuriating). In top tier play their are very few necros, so clearly necros need buffs.
It is that simple, don’t overcomplicate it with things like, “I think this or that.” The common players opinion isn’t really relevant when talking about balance because the common player hasn’t learned to dodge, rotate and work with their team. There are exceptions to this rule, but in general it is true.
Having said that, necros did get some decent sustain buffs, but the other core problems like lack of stab, easily counterable damage, mobility, invulns, reflects and support are still their.

You have no idea what you’re talking about lol….thief got nothing but buffs and now they hit harder than ever. Any half decent thief that doesn’t just sit and eat your damage will spin circles around you and destroy you. Don’t be disillusioned because you play against less skilled opponents.
Bottom line was necro fell behind comparatively to other classes simply because power creep didn’t hit us as hard. We do 20-30% less damage than before with a marauder amulet compared to old zerk for a net gain of 8% extra crit and 3k hp. If you decide to go zerk ammy then good luck surviving Mesmer burst or thief backstab with that base 19k hp. You’re basically asking to get insta-bursted even if you have full DS.
Ohhh but I do!! I one of the few power FULL GLASS necros that roam in wvw constantly,and I tell you this,not a single d/p thief or d/d thief for that matter has ever beat me in wvw and I roamed for about 4 months,and now I can beat S/d ones too which pre patch it was very hard and I did 20+ duels against top ranked thieves from my server.The one thing I cant do is beat a thief all the time with no DS at all on start.
Now,Necro is not only my top play class-it is the thief aswell,so in thief prespective you dont know the half of what you talking about,thieves got super nerfed,you go ahead and check thief forums we are desperate times my friend…

its happens alot to me,I counter thieves all the time,cause those thieves are on the same boat as you are,so it all comes down to skill when you fight fellow thief.Somtimes it is only who lands backstab first,but in my experince so far,I fought dozens of thieves since patch,even thieves that got the jump on you,and only got outplayed once and that guy dueled me after and I won like 7 out of 10 duels.Pretty much even I would say.
I think they tried to throw alot of bones at us,but they got confused with sticks :P
Increasing the hp would kill the class for me.
Much like Assassin in GW1, or any other MMO I play, I love playing “glass-cannon” classes that offer high risk vs high reward gameplay. I enjoy being punished for the slightest mistake.
I do agree evasion and mitigation needs an overhaul. Acrobatics is pretty rubbish as it stands but I think the core issue atm is that DPS and conditions aren’t balanced relative to certain health pools, which overall to me reeks of certain classes and skills needing a DPS nerf…not us needing a buff which would imho be counterintuitive and do more harm than good.
Increasing the base hp would just reward and encourage bad play and bad players.
Fixing evasion, mitigation and some of the one-shotting due to outrageous DPS spikes would not.
What you dont see is,your healh pool has been nerfed this patch.you had 15k now you have 13k on glass cannon.If anet gonna give more 3-5k hp you will be still glass cannon,you’ll just wont get one shotted by killshots or mesmer all the time

Majority of the people I’ve met who actually played thief long enough understands this thread. I’m just baffled by the fact that you guys still don’t get the point. I never requested them to increase our health pool to the highest level like necros or warriors, never once I’ve stated that if you read the posts obove. I really don’t want to make my statements rude cause things can get real toxic if you’ve read my previous post and other people on gw2 forum. Guardians are well known for having exceptionally high sustain without much effort, they’ve got a good deal of damage output as well as proper damage mitigation. Fresh air eles getting faced rolled? You seriously don’t expect anyone to trait into full damage output and expect to live long enough right? Is your logic seriously that limited(sorry I just had to). I mean you seriously think that thieves have enough sustain in the current state and that the dev is gonna stop the endless irrationally unjustified nerfs? Giving us medium health pool will provide some breathing room as well as opening the opportunity to not die like flies, exactly like what that’s been stated above. Btw Jayden I’ve seen your post before about thieves, I don’t wish to seem personal but it seems like you seriously seem like a person who would state things with absolute prejudice. It seems as if prejudice should be your middle name.
It doesn’t matter if the HP increase would be to medium or the highest health pools. Without improved active defence, the extra padding with more vitality melts really fast.

I compared equivalent stat choices for same HP pool classes, ele can die even faster than a thief if hit by the same attack. And it is due to current overbuffed dmg everyone has that the lowest HP classes can die in 1 hit. Why should a thief class be an exception and get more HP to cope with the dmg currently in the game. The solution to that is to nerf dmg output across all classes, not give 1 class more HP.

ok,give thief the ele active defense,almost perma protection,and self sustain. i will be happy to stay with this on low hp pool.
my only issue would be … there are not enough dmg on weapon skills.
you have to slot well or signet power regarding to your build to help up the burst.
when you have to spend slot for burst. it really hurts your mobility so…
