Can confirm the issues from Australia. All other games ping around 200ms, Gw2 – 350ms.
Punishing players for d/cing and returning is your call, but don’t expect your playerbase to grow with this system in place. I for one will not recommend this game to ANYONE in it’s current state.
Bump.. Needs to happen.
I just experienced my first dishonor and I must say, what the * are these developers smoking.
I have never played a game that punishes you for an action BEFORE you even play the game.
Is there some inside joke on this that we are not getting?
I’m also a programmer by trade and I can tell you that if:
1. It took this long to fix major bugs like getting immobilized for no know reason;
2. Not being able to actually see anything on the screen cause of some fancy new effects or BUGS with powerful skills ; and
3. Have a tendency to be exceptionally inconsistent in the way I treat various parts of the productI would be fired and replaced without a second thought, but this is ANET so it’s all good I guess.
aahhh another one of those “if this where my company…”
2 & 3 are subjective opinions. Number 1 shows you’ve never worked with the amazing complexity that is a modern game engine. (that pac-man project you did java 101 doesn’t count)
That not to say they should just leave bugs, but for the love of god debugging games is extremely time consuming because of all the interacting bits. This isn’t your college programming assignment.
This is not a “if it where my company” post. Leaving a bug that completely interrupts the flow of combat for OVER 2 YEARS is simply embarrasing and to be quite frank poor form. I guess my priorities as a programmer are different then the ones here, so be it.

This has been the core problem since day one. If they don’t fix the population issues whether it be by server merges, mega servers or whatever, then seriously there is no hope, how many times do you have to be told the same thing before it starts to sink in, it’s absolutely incredible how the calling card of a game can go so neglected for so long. It’s not as if it’s PvE is any good, sPvP is not bad but jesus how many other games out there have the same if not better.
WvW is the feature that makes Gw2 stand out, give it the love it deserves and stop being scared of shaking the tree kitten .

So after 3 years of population issues, their fix is to change the “labeling” of a server’s population status?? – WTF
I have been wrecking people with my mace/shield & hammer warrior since HOT dropped, admittedly those people are very bad, but you can keep them out of the game for AGES, and if they pop stab just run away heal up or switch targets, and do it all over again. It might not be the best and most effective build, but it is a hell of a lot of fun.
they’ve had over 2 years to correct the problems with WvW population issues, not to mentiokittenllion suggestions, but they do NOTHING to fix it. So, most people have just moved on to a different game. It’s a shame, to me it’s GW2’s greatest asset, the developers obviously do not feel the same.
To be honest it’s actually arrogance with Anet, intentional or not. I like GW2, but I’m a programmer myself and if I didn’t document / explain changes to my customers, I would find myself swiftly unemployed, I’m not sure why we as customers don’t demand the same.
I think how long they left turret engineers was a pretty good example of this company’s mindset, they dgaf.
You’re missing the point, this game is sold on and it’s target market is “get in, have fun, get out” – If it takes 30-40 hours for people to get to even start testing out the things they have paid for (elite specs), then this game has taken a serious deviation from it’s core philosophy.

Not sure how they have missed their target market so badly in this expansion. GW2 was advertised as “grind free”, they even said it themselves, they HATE grinding. Yet they release this.. Baffling
One has to wonder why after 2 years of the game running, they even need to do a stress test, are they re-writing the backend architecture or something similar?
Same here, can’t zone most of the time..
With the ALARMING time between patches, you’d really think they’d have these things tested prior to releasing them.
All hail our engineer overlords, the pinacle of skill, finese and genius level brain power.
turrets should have their regen cut in half and despawn if engineer goes +1200 range of them.
unplayable from australia tonight
I can vouch for this, it’s ever since the most recent large patch (not the subsquent ones, the one with the festival) – was fine before this patch, now I get massive pauses in combat where none of the abilities are going, but then all go off at once leaving you dead before you could see what was happening.
turrets should despawn if engie goes outside of 1200 range, would help alleviate the problem.
This Anet of today is clearly not the same as the one from Gw1, such a shame, awesome combat system but clearly a lack of clear focus higher up in the company hierarchy.
bump… 350ms+ ping since patch gg
i can confirm since patch i can’t play this game, actions 2-3 secs behind
The thing with turret engis is once you clean up their turrets they are defenseless. I used to avoid playing engis thinking they were cheap as AIDS, but eventually tried the profession out and found out that its incredibly easy to catch the little buggers of guard by simply destroying their turrets and keeping distance between you and them. Distance is required because turret engis usually make use of a rifile and spam the KB+imobilize combo to push you out of the cap point which is just enough for theturrets to do another cycle.
the problem is the time it takes to clean up said turrets, the regen of the turrets is WAY to high
there is no other mmo that allows stealth to constantly be accessed inside of combat, that is the real issue here, it makes for frustrating gameplay and one that is simply not fun.
It’s all the bouncing around that is the most annoying thing imo. If you don’t have access to stability, you’re gonna get ping ponged if you go for the node which is not fun.
The top 5 things that Anet got wrong is company arrogance. The disconnect between what players are asking for and what they are receiving is really making GW2 a massive example of how to squander a golden opportunity.
Solo q’ers should never face a team, nuff said.
How to play an engie: Equip sigils, cele amulet, turrets, afk, win.
first 3 games today, all against groups… seriously?
another day, another bunch of matches vs premades.. seriously?
Just bring back solo q/team q
+1 It’s not fun for the team or the solo player.. I have no idea how Anet thought it would be, mindboggling.
Is it really that hard?
/dance will fix it
stop putting solo vs any group size.. never worked in any other mmo why would it work here.
solo should never go against group of any size, regardless of wait time.
the issue is in anytime other then na prime, t2 is a ghost town, so most ocx /sea play in t1 only because it’s the place that actually has enemy players… this carries over on the weekend when ocx / sea plays during the day. have a crack at roaming during the week, might have more fun.
I have to say Anet have trolled all of us pretty kitten this one, getting us to try and FIX their game issues that THEY get paid to fix…..LOL.
Greatest example of a squandered opportunity in an mmo EVER.
This is a perfect example of the amount of time Anet is willing to devote to WvW…LOL.
Stick a fork in it, game is done.
No queues on Jq and outmanned on every map pretty much always at the moment.
Winner was decided before it started.. Pointless activity while population scoring issues still exist.
I play a similar build to this one except with a staff for the control.. The only class I have any issues with are any half decent necros, they just nail me.. Any ideas on that matchup?
