I agree with everything the OP said.
It is a SINGLE player game.
There are NO rewards.
There’s “supposed” to be NO grind, but why not reward those that want to grind.
And there’s sure as hell no “Guild” in GW2.
Many of my friends have left GW2, for various reasons, but why would ArenaNet care, they have their money, and more just buy the game so it’s a happy (For Anet) merry go round.
(edited by Solid Gold.9310)
this game is not dead.
go on blacktide EU and see what i mean. i see more people running around then in WOW.
Lol kinda funny they say this game is dead.
sometimes there like around 10 people at one event..
10 a measly 10, you make it sound like a lot, try getting 25-30 for some of the DE’s in Orr.
10 it’s generally unusual to get more than 5 in an area.
Waypoints ruin the game a little in my honest opinion
I wish they simply added mounts with one or two waypoints in each region.
Instead of seeing the beautiful world in GW2, people are simply spending a couple of copper to teleport from point to point.
It’s worse than what world of warcraft did by having a flight point at every quest hub.Or at least add casting time to teleporting to a waypoint, a four second cast with an animation.
Pesonally, I’ve seen it all before, I don’t want to be forced to walk through it again, if I want to get somewhere I want to get there “now”, not after wherever I was going is over.
What I do object to is having to pay for waypoints, it’s making this, what should have been “sociable, play with your friends” game into a more or less single player game, and don’t give me the old “fanboy” story that waypoint cost are a goldsink that control server economy, because that is rubbish.
As ArenaNet have made no comment on this, I guess they must be ok with it.
Paying for runs was common with GW1.
If it’s “ethical” for a guild to do it is questionable.
I guess it’s a free market and if there’s a profit to be made, and customers willing to pay, then it will continue.
Rangers are getting a good buff next patch. Wait until then.
We’ve been promised that before, and seriously let down, so dream on.
This is an issue of whether or not a particular region seems appealing or worthwhile to explore.
It has nothing to do with way-point fees.
Only a portion of the player base are going to go out of their way to explore every nook and cranny. The rest are geared towards the best reward/time rates, which is currently skewed by dungeons and imbalanced karma-reward rates.
What needs to be fixed here are the source of ascended gear (confirmed) and event-reward rates (no news on that yet)
They sure are, razor sharp, maybe they would like to explain why wp’s need to be a gold sink, when it’s clearly not necessary (And NO the server economy won’t explode).
Prices gradually doubling in one year would be equivalent to an economic explosion.
Well-regulated economies in real life inflate less then 5% a year.
GW2 has already inflated well over 20% in less then 6 months. See the problem?Economy-wise, we’re already exploding.
That is why gold-sinks need to be here. Removing any is out of the question. Adding some would be a good thing. Please learn more about economics before you try stating that gold-sinks are not necessary.
Thats rubbish and no justification for waypoint costs at all.
I’ve been reporting the same 3 bots for over 6 weeks now, and they are still in the same place botting away 24/7 they are in my friends list so l know. (Maybe they disbanded the bot team).
I’ve farmed in the same place, good drops, fast respawns, they sure know how to pick a good place, I wouldn’t stay too long though, other players will report you by mistake.
Wow, you fanboys sure are vicious.
They sure are, razor sharp, maybe they would like to explain why wp’s need to be a gold sink, when it’s clearly not necessary (And NO the server economy won’t explode).
Backpeddling is essential as a Ranger, the pet is usually dead as a doorstop, limping back and dragging all the mobs with it.
So it’s great to be backpeddling into more mobs that just respawned behind you, with a pet thats back to 80% health but still does nothing, great fun.
If people didn’t complain, how would ArenaNet know something is wrong or people are not happy about something.
Yup it’s the teleporting collecting bots, mind you l have been reporting the same 3 bots in Timberline falls now for a month, and they are still there.
Just wondering why ?
I don’t want to be forced how to play.
If I put the pet away, I want it to stay put away. Rangers should have the choice, as per GW1, there should be something to compensate for not using the pet, It doesn’t look like ArenaNet will ever fix the pet thing.
If I put my town clothes on, I want them to stay on.
If I die, I don’t want my camera angle fiddled with.

“Do you realize how important the waypoint goldskink is to keeping the already not so great market from being completely kitten?”
Not at all, zero, nothing.
Doing away with waypoint costs would not make the server economy go into freefall.
Doing away with waypoint costs would make this single player game into a multi player game, maybe the way that ArenaNet imagined it would be. (Sorry ArenaNet, but it’s not).
I liked my GW1 Ranger much more than I like my GW2 Ranger.
I hate my pet.
GotY, Gw2 got it by default, there’s no competition.
There’s nothing new here, it’s all been done before by the Koreans.
It could very well be a very different outcome next year.
Waypoints should be free.
There’s no need for pointless gold sinks.
The server economy will NOT explode.
It would help bring players together.
As it is it’s a single player game.
GhastlyArmor
“False. The server “full” is the amount of people playing at the time, not the amount of accounts that call that server home.”
GhastlyArmor
“Wait, so the server load is based on how many characters are currently assigned to it? Not how many people are actually logged on and playing? That’s weird.”
Well it seems nobody knows the answer to this one, ArenaNet are not saying anything that makes it clear.
I don’t really see what the big secret with them is all about.
Personally I would gamble on it being the second quote.
Well I didn’t even know there was an exploit, and I would have probably done the same in ignorance of the possibility of getting banned.
But I didn’t as l don’t do any crafting or whatever was the cause.
You know what, the economy didn’t actually explode guys, just like the economy wouldn’t explode if waypoint costs were free.
Well l never, there you go.
I agree, having a pet its cool, but sometimes you just wish to be by your own.
I think the option of having or not a pet is the best way to go, apart from that the pet system is great.
Yeap l have to agree fully with this, please put my pet out of it’s misery.
If it’s dead (Which is most of the time), it should fall over dead, not agro and drag mobs to me as it limps back.
If it does manage to recover to even 80%, it just stands there doing nothing, or at other times it’s way back attacking mobs I passed 5 minutes ago.
I always play a Ranger, I only play a Ranger, I don’t want to play a beastmaster, l don’t want to micro manage my “pet” thing.
Please give us the choice, as it looks like you will never get the pet to perform properly, and we should’nt be forced into using the thing.
Same with your town clothes, trip over a matchstick and your pet pops out and you put your armour back on, it’s rubbish, why don’t they think these things through properly.
I have never done the monthly ever either.
I get my daily, they can stuff the monthly.
Have to agree with 1,2 and 3 strongly.
Need fixing urgently.
I seem to be always under attack when I collect resources, I never get ruined anything, the only time I get something ruined is if I use say and iron or copper gathering tool,
It’s NOT that good a game, l don’t care what you say there’s nothing here that’s not been done before in some way shape or form
Buy an expansion, maybe, depends, l want content, not silly dungeons or fractal things, a Ranger that works, it depends how much more they nerf drops, how much more gold they screw out of us that we had to grind for.
I have to say it’s not looking good at the moment.
GW1 brilliant, no cash shop, no getting turned over, GW2 seems like a hard business make money model.
The servers aren’t dead and I don’t believe they changed the population ranges to display “full” when there are less people online… it’s just that no one is in a place where you can see them. Endgame is all about running an instance for the best gear, now, so that is where everyone is. They are either idling in a city looking for a group for it, or they are in the instance itself.
The players are still there, they just aren’t doing open world content anymore.
For your “average” “casual” mmo player then, the servers dead.
Dante Dragonhand
“sigh I wonder what game Ill play if I quit, any suggestions of gaves with good archer classes, prefereably act like snipers? Gonna be hard playing something that wont let me dodge.”
I have a couple I’ll be moving on to when they’re out, better not mention them here.
I personally won’t miss the dodging, will still be able to kite.
I think there might be some serious competition for GW2 early in 2013.
Yea, having to swap so much is stupid and non efficient. We should only have to swap once in awhile not every fricken time we fight.
Yeah this is stupid and I hate it.
I don’t want to micro manage my pet, and even if the pet recovers to 80% health it still stands there doing nothing.
I would like the option (Like GW1) of not having a pet, and a buff to compensate for not having it.
They are useless in WvW and a liability in dungeons and the Ranger has a massive disadvantage.
Waypoint costs are fine, 2-3 silver is nothing unless you’re using a waypoint every 2 minutes.
Explain why we need wp costs at all.
(And don’t say the server economy will explode, a favourite answer of the wp cost are ok lobby).
Because it’s a coin drain.
Hmmmm, let me think, not really a good answer, it doesn’t justify wp costs at all.
GW1 didn’t need them, many other mmo’s don’t need them, why does ArtenaNet feel GW2 needs them, it’s hard enough getting gold as it is, and “they” seem to want to take it away from you (us) at every opportunity, wonder why that is.
Could it possibly be, GW2 has a cash shop where you can buy gold, GW1 didn’t,

Waypoint costs are a pointless gold sink, the server economy WILL NOT explode if there’s no waypoint costs.
Waypoint costs are just adding to the “It’s a single player game” as people are hit in the bank if they want to go and help their friends, go and help/res somebody, go and do dynamic events.
This is supposed to be a “fun” “sociable” game and there’s no need for wp costs.
Ranger, some WvW
Level 80 549 hours 367 deaths .66dph
I’ve been watching them tonight, many seem to have normal names, hard to report the names.
A screenshot is probably the best way to report them.
And there’s a lot of them. Don’t expect them to get banned anytime soon, had bots I reported weeks ago in my friends list, they are still botting.
And people worry if they do away with waypoint costs the server economy will explode or something, well maybe the thousands of bots are going to ruin any economy anyway.
Each pet already has thier specialty. the ranger class is what it is. Seems some people have chosen the wrong class.
No, l wanted to be a Ranger, not a beastmaster.
The pet is a pain a nuisance and a liability, and dead most of the time, or 50% health which seems to stop them from doing anything.
I want to play a Ranger, not have to play a Ranger and micro-manage my pet as well.
I am disappointed as well, it’s gone all too Korean grindy using the same business model.
There’s nothing new here that the Koreans didn’t do several years ago.
“So, now that I am level 80, what to do?” err, grind, try to make some money and beat the ArenaNet money sinks, grind some more.
Yup +10 to this, it’s really annoying.
I use it, it’s fine.
Although it’s slower turning it’s ok for general pve.
Pet micro-managing, no thanks.
Make the thing actually work, and not die in 5 seconds flat, that would be a start.
It’s a TAX, of course everybody like paying their taxes, especially in a GAME.
Except its not a tax, its a gold sink. This isn’t the real world, and yes, it is a game, therefore it has to function differently. You can’t print money in the real world, but in the game that happens every single time you pick up any type of tradeable object or currency. Therefore, gold sinks are put in place to reduce the inflation this causes.
Exactly, this isn’t the REAL world, it’s toy town, virtual money, why do ArenaNet need to screw it out of us, including waypoint costs and trading post taxes.
Yes it’s a so called gold sink, and do you think the gold sinks have anything whatsoever to do with server inflation, I don’t think so, it’s just an excuse.
It wasn’t needed in GW1, it’s not needed in many other games, I can’t see it’s needed here.
Waypoint costs just add to the already single player game syndrome, might as well be playing Sky***.
And I have nothing against armour repair costs, break your armour and you should pay for the repair.
Pets are useless in WvW and pretty much worthless everywhere else as well.
It’s a grind, l just grind every night to make a few silver.
Getting really bored with it now.
It’s a TAX, of course everybody like paying their taxes, especially in a GAME.
Pets are still pretty useless and a liability, if they are not ever going to fix it then the Ranger isn’t worth playing.
If that’s the case, I’ll be moving on as soon as possible.
I’m on a “Highly” populated server, and it’s as dead as a doorstop, nobody doing any events, nobody to do champions with, dead.
(edited by Solid Gold.9310)
Ah right Kaimick, just the way you said “dinged 80 for the 75th time” I assumed you knew for sure.
So really I have no idea how many times I’ve “dinged” 80 but I have 344 skill points, so I’m guessing quite a few times.
Not really sure maybe I don’t have this problem but I have dinged level 80 for the 75th time as it would seem while rezing someone the other day and it didn’t interrupt the Rez for me. who knows maybe I am bugged.
Probably a silly question, how can you tell how many times you levelled after 80 ?
(I’m gonna be kicking myself here ain’t I ?).
Yeah it’s rubbish.
6 angry mobs want to tear my face off, so it targets the longhorned sheep thats way off and l can’t even see.
Great stuff.
Take non-threatening targets OFF of auto target.
Not everytime, depends how you die.
If you get killed by a mob, then yes your armour gets damaged, if you die from a fall, generally it doesn’t get damaged.
You can still play with damaged armour, the stats don’t reduce, but once it turns red it’s time to repair and it will cost you more.
I generally repair it as soon as it gets damaged.
And as Danikat said, it’s quite often you will find better armour as your levelling up, before you need to repair it.
