I just started playing and I have no idea what any of that means….
You’re new? Walk away from the forums! Really! Nothing to see here, people!
(really, for your own sanity: Get away from the forums!)
Welcome to Tyria by the way :p
I see what you did there…
Tyria has happy places, sad places, decayed places, sunny places, snowy places, beautiful places. It has serious problems and funny ones. It has children being abducted by evil beings, and children playing silly games. It has its grimness, and its sillyness.
And it needs them all to be a good fantasy world. Whether it’s in books, games or movies, almost no one can get away with a one-dimensional world. A world built on only one emotion is bland and boring.
Going to bump the thread to spread reason and truth
Ello, uber-casual player here (I play 10 hours a week or so).
I like the new dailies. The old ones were boring and were becoming too much of a routine (“go to this area and run this path to complete daily”). I like being pushed outside of my comfort zone and try new things. I like that I can be a little creative in how I’ll solve my dailies.
The problem with your comment is that you always had the option of going outside your comfort zone and trying new things. You did not need a change to the Daily system to do it.
Or, maybe you did, in which case that is a personal problem on your end, and perhaps you can understand why I am not even remotely thrilled to have what I enjoyed doing taken away simply to motivate you into trying new and different things.
shrug You have your preferences, I have mine. I like the new daily system and didnt like the old one, you like the old one and dont like the new one. Can’t please everybody.
Those are bots. Report on sight
But yeh, it’s hard to catch ’em
Todays missions:
-Daily kill variety (check)
-Daily aquatic slayer (check)
-Daily gatherer (check)
-Personal story completer – I don’t play the storyline…
-Daily healer (check)
-Mystic forgesmith – Dont have the items for mystic forge
-Keg brawl stealer – I don’t play the mini games
-Group event completion – Searched for an hour, could not find one active with enough players around
-Daily myst invasion – no clue where this happens
The list does not favor the causual player. We need a larger list or at least 5 choices out of the old daily event list…
Oh come on, the mystic forge one you can do with a couple of very, VERY cheap whites found in the open world or bought from traders or trading post. The mystic forge one is actually the easiest one.
I agree. I can manage to keep track of the currencies pretty well, but that is because I am an information junk who spends way too much of her time on the forums, wiki and youtube. But for my friend, who is a starting gamer, it’s all very confusing. It’s hard for her to set priorities, so she feels kind of lost in the huge forest of options.
Having multiple currencies does nothing but make your game more complex than need be. And for a game that prides itself on the “easy to learn, difficult to master” concept, it’s really not a step forward.

I like being pushed outside of my comfort zone and try new things. I like that I can be a little creative in how I’ll solve my dailies. And as an uber-casual player, I have just finished my first set of dailies since the new update in 45 minutes. I chose healer, kill variety, gatherer, mystic forge and personal story. I did every single one but the mystic forge one on an alt I’m leveling (if I did not have an alt, I would probably have picked the aquatic one). My alt was level 11, and in the starting charr area there are plenty of dead NPCs to be found everywhere. For the mystic forge one, I crafted some white garbage on my main and threw it in.
It did not take me “out of my way”, except maybe for the mystic forge one, and that took me about 3 minutes including loading screens – I was planning to level that alt anyway.
So really, it’s just a matter of “pick and choose wisely”. Pick the ones you think match your plan of the day best, and it’ll work itself out. Just because there are a few options you would not normally do or maybe not like, like keg brawl or wvw, does not mean you have to do it. Just pick something else. Yes, it’s that easy.
The old dailies were boring as hell. Exactly the same routine every day. If that is what you want, then yes, you are screwed with this new system. But I kind of like it. It pushes me a little bit outside of my comfort zone and try new things (keg brawl was actually kind of fun when I got the hang of it).
And @ loltha: just throw a couple of whites in the mystic forge? It’s no harder than the crafting daily.
Start a new community project.
Get together with a few small guilds and together, form an “alliance” guild, solely for doing guild missions. If you have 10 guilds of 10 people, that is one larger guild of 100 people for example. Once in a while, every member donates influence using a book, but other than that, every member is only in his/her small guild. Once you all get enough influence in the alliance guild, unlock the guild missions and do them together with the other small guilds that contributed.
Sure, it may take a little bit more time than a large guild, but you’ll get it done faster than on your own. And you may meet some new people.
come one people, show a little creativity. It’s not impossible for small guilds.
I am pondering whether to answer your question seriously, sarcastically, or just facepalm and walk away.
Think I’m going to do the last option. Good luck!
Yet another reason for me never ever to bother with ascended :’)
Wasn’t planning on doing fractals past level 10-ish though (currently level 2 \0/), and in WvW it does not make a difference for me anyway, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.
Just throwing this out there, because it is something I actually am considering with my real-life friend (7 people) guild:
We have a few connections to large guilds. We intend to propose the large guild to contribute to the cost of starting the mission, join the large guild temporarily to do the guild mission (we need more people to complete them anyway) and go back to our own little guild at the end. Do it often enough, there might even be a long-term alliance where we can work together for other goals.
Now, I don’t know yet if any of the larger guilds are up for this, but it’s worth a shot. If it does not work out, we’ll just have influence-gathering-events besides our farming, dungeon, wvw and other events.
it is not impossible as small guild. You can make it fun if you get a little creative. But yes, you have to put in some effort. For example: OP, you said you only play one hour a day, and you like exploring. Get your guildies together, team up, explore a level 80 area and spend everything you loot/earn on those influence books. If everyone chips in, you do what you like while getting more influence. And you’ll have fun working together towards a common goal. But, as with everything else, you decide if the reward is worth the effort. If it’s not, then why whine?
Small guilds are always disadvantaged in some ways, and more advantaged in other ways. You probably won’t have people online at all times for example, and you won’t be able to do a full-wvw-zerg-event with guildies only. And you’ll have to put in more effort if you want to do these guild missions. But you have the every-knows-everyone vibe that large guilds simply do not. You can organise events more easily. Communication is easier. Actually, because of all that, I prefer being in a small guild, even when you know it takes a little bit more effort to get some things ingame.
Huh? why would you pay? I thought the whole point of letting people “cheat” by buying gold with real money was that the rest of us legit players would benefit from them developing the game with that money. I cant accept a game that lest people get ahead by paying with real money AND want me to spend real money to play the content. Thats not going to work for me, good luck to Anet with that one.
And that’s why casual people hate elitist jerks. I pay for your game. A minimum of respect would be appreciated.
I’m not cheating and you’re not playing legit.
You are cheating, youre paying to get ahead, its like a sport where youd pay the referees for more points instead of scoring yourself. And youre not paying for my game, i already bought the game. What youre paying for is cheating. Anet can pocket that money or give fund development. Its up to them. If they pocket it and want me to play with cheaters, forget it. Why do you think F2P games with cash shops dont charge ANYTHING, this game want to charge me for a box, let cheaters into the game, and want me to pay more? no thanks.
I really can’t decide if you are:
a) serious
b) trolling
c) intellectually challenged.
In other games, where content is gated by gear, sure it makes a difference. But here it doesn’t.
I get that. But some people like to have actual net increase in their character’s effectiveness.
Should I just read all this and concede that Guild Wars is for people that just care about the way their character looks?
Or for people who care about other stuff than “stat rewards” in general.
I myself, I am an explorer. I love finding new stuff, nooks and corners. (no, not “world completion”. Even at 100% world completion, you have not seen it all yet). And sure, I want my character to look pwetty, but at the end of my gaming session, I want to have seen at least one new thing.
But this game leaves room for me setting my own goal. I don’t want to be held by my hand and I don’t need it. And by getting rid of the gear treadmill obligation, I can set my own goals, instead of doing what the game tells me to do.
I expect that I’ll be asleep when the patch hits, just like the previous one :’)
So nothing more than a regular day at the office, unfortunately.
They’re not dragons, they are trains disguised as dragons. More on schedule than most trains in my country. Especially the dragon of 5 past 2 – that one is never late.
None. I don’t really care what drops I get or how much money I make, I don’t play for legendaries anyway.
Mimic yes. But mimic does not mean “become”.
Is a bush shaped in a human form suddenly human, with all cultural and social presets and rules? Of course not, and neither are Sylvari. As far as I know, Sylvari mimic human form, not human society or culture.
Make a new personal storyline. One where Trahearne dies and Tybalt lives.
Sylvari are plants, not mammals or animals like humans, charr, norn and asura. You don’t call a tree pollinating itself “incestuous” or “inbreeding”. You don’t call two seeds that originated from the same plant “sister seeds”. It’s a whole different world that you can’t define by human standards.
I would love to replay the Tybalt chapters of my personal story <3
I think Kryta (Caledon Forest, metrica province) still have that jungly-feeling. Especially when compared to zones like Queensdale or Plains of Ascalon. Every zone does have its distinct flora and fauna, that can be traced back to GW1.
I hated heroes in GW1. They killed teamplay and meeting-new-people-in-PUGs. They were the main reason I switched from PvE to PvP in that game. Hope to never see them again. Ever.
I prefer GW2. I can’t mute annoying people in real life.
What if your guild only has one member? Is this going to be achieveable?
I doubt you can be considered a guild with one player. Its called solo play when one player.
If he/she created a guild then he/she is a guild regardless if he/she is the only one in it. Put your condescending attitude to rest.
By definition, a guild is: “An association of people for mutual aid or the pursuit of a common goal.”
The official wiki even states: “Guilds are formal groupings of players that enable them to play together more effectively and reward them for doing so.”
Doesn’t matter what the interwebz definition is. It remains a fact that a guild can be created with just 1 player. Stop extracting statements to answer something you didn’t read.
No one is asking for the definition of the word guild.
If people expect guild content to be designed with 1-player guilds in mind, then yes, the definition was needed. Being able to create a guild with one member doesn’t mean it can fully function without needing more.
Therefore the asker was asking what if he’s in the guild alone? Will he be able to experience guild missions? There’s always a possibility of a one man guild whether it is intended or not.
IF he manages to get enough influence on his own to unlock and start the guild missions AND if he somehow finds enough people to help him then yes, it’s possible – as far as I know.
Okay, toodels.
ps: Since you have gold you won’t be using anytime soon…
I see a few people with small guilds here who are concerned… here’s food for thought: if you all just help each other out with these guild events? It really can’t hurt to work together with different guilds for the duration of a single guild mission.
I think they’re more concerned about what it means that they might have to get help or expand membership.
Well then, why not just make everything single player content so you don’t have to cooperate with anyone, ever :/
I’ve read in another topic that the requirements may be too much for small guilds to reach (art of war level 5). That is a valid concern. “I don’t want to work together with other people” is not a valid concern for an MMO imo.
I downloaded GW1 yesterday. I logged in, checked my characters for birthday presents…. and went on staring at the screen. I didn’t know what to do. I have done everything I wanted in GW1 and gotten everything out of the game that I wanted.
I may play it again if a friend of mine (who started gaming with GW2 – it’s literally her first game ever) gets curious enough about GW1 to give it a try, but other than that… I can’t even get myself to complete my HoM.

We don’t know yet what the events look like and if the trigger spot has influence on the areas where you need to go… let’s just wait and see, shall we?
Don’t have that problem on Desolation. Guest on some servers until you find one you like to transfer to?
@lothefallen.7081,1+ This is a really great post and it sums up everything about how I feel about the game right now, well done. It’s a shame all the hype-knights are completely living in denial about how shallow the game really is right now.
Or… maybe people actually simply disagree with you and think the game’s still fun. Just because someone does not share your opinion, does not mean they are “in denial”, nor does it make their opinion less valid than yours.
I just blew 15 laurels on 30 dyes. Was it worth it? Yes. Yes, it was.
Only 2 laurels left by the way – I don’t log in daily. If I wanted ascended stuff, but was not able to log in every day, I would not complain. Might as well complain that people who can play daily are richer than me. Of course they’re richer, they can play a lot more than me.
Why should it be a problem?
If think there are a lot of people who never played GW1.
You are right. The game was not popular and filled little more than a niche role in the MMO community. So yes, few have played GW1. However, Anet was supposed to be trying to compete with WoW. You do not compete with WoW by having an end game that turns the player base into teenage girls looking for the perfect outfit.
You do not compete with WoW by making yet another clone either. If it’s WoW or WoW-like you want, there are plenty of other options out there for you.
That’s what it feels like. I think Fractals was the worst thing that happened to the game for the simple fact it yanked the player base from other areas (that were already slowly dying out). I also think the unreasonable dungeon mechanics chased people away from higher level dungeons.
I don’t wish to get 100% map completion. I don’t wish to play Super Guild Wars Bros and do jump puzzles. I’d like to advance exciting story or make some kind of progress w/ my character and see other characters out in the world and join with them and do stuff… new stuff.
I try to log-in and not be negative, but I usually just end up running around aimlessly and then logging out.
The Living Story started out terribly. First impressions are your last, and if fixing broken signs, lighting fires and rummaging dead bodies is how ANet planned on rolling it out… the content managers need Cocaine introduced into their lifestyle immediately.
I can’t be the only person feeling this way. I don’t hate GW2. I enjoyed my path to where I am now… but I feel like I “beat” a console game right now.
What the heck happened to the game ANet was advertising before launch?
That is pretty much it. Get to 80 and then stop playing or level another character. This is probably the most boring MMO at max level that I have played. The entire reason is because of there being very little character development once you hit max level. How this got into an MMORPG I will never know. The entire point of an RPG is to develop your character.
Think about what this game actually does. You hit max level and the game then says now that you have reached the pinnacle, you are going to grind for clothes. Not clothes that make you all that more powerful but instead just clothes in a fashion sense. In other words “End Game” turns you into a teenage girl who has to find the perfect outfit. That is supposed to keep people playing?
I really did enjoy leveling up but after getting necro and thief to 80 I see little point to do the content over again knowing that once I hit max level it is game over.
Yes, grinding for extra stats that don’t make any difference in the long run, because mobs and content scale as well… And all your effort is pointless anyway when a new patch hits – that is MUCH better indeed.
It’s all psychological. You are not getting stronger, or better, or “more developed”, you just think you’re getting stronger because now it says 105 instead of 100.
If that is what you seek in an RPG (what in my opinion stands for “role playing game” – not “grinding for stats”), than yes, it’s going to be boring for you. As long as you keep in mind that those stats are just as pointless as searching the perfect outfit, and the “getting stronger” is just as fake.
Yes, blues are vendor trash. But what if champs would drop a yellow every time like some people here seem to want. Think for a moment beyond yourself and think how would that effect the economy.
They cannot make drastic changes like that without messing up the economy. Guaranteed blues also means higher chance of better than blue, and it’s a lot better than getting a porous bone.
In any case, let’s just wait for the patch before bringing in the pitchforks and torches again?
I would like to point out that a certain large PAY-TO-PLAY game charges $25 to transfer to any server, low-pop or not.
And that’s 25 dollar per character
I really don’t see the problem for GW2
Sooo, you basically do the same DE over and over and over and over again?
The thing I love the most about GW2 are the little details. Like how the asuras ears perk up when they are in combat. How a random conversation between NPCs turns out in a DE. Little books with lore. Funny references on gravestones. The way my female sylvari looks when she is just standing still, curious about everything . The way amors can be sexy, without turning my characters into lost hookers.
It just makes a wonderful atmosphere that invites you to look beyond the obvious.
In other news: I just made a fresh batch of cookies, anyone want one?
Supporting ArenaNet/GW for years? What are you people talking about? Did you send them money every month? As far as I can tell, you bought a piece of entertainment from them, like a proper consumer does from a company. You then enjoy said piece of entertainment by playing the game. In what world is that supporting anyone?
We loyal GW1 players did a cheerleader dance every day for Anet. If THAT is not supportive, I don’t know what it.
I’m going to call into question right now the idea that someone could have been “cheer leading every day” for Anet for all of these years and NOT have known at the time that the Hall of Monuments was a feature exclusive to EOTN. It was pretty much the most advertised feature of the expansion when it was coming out. The only way someone could be finding out about this now is if they never payed attention to the game after Nightfall came out.
Do you know how hard it is to read websites while doing backflips? o0

Or Desolation if you are in the EU region
What server are you in and have you tried www.gw2lfg.com yet? Make sure to select the EU region when you use the site
19 dollars? Okay, online it’s 19, but have you checked local stores? I know there are stores nearby where I could pick it up for 5 euros.
EOTN is cheap as hell these days. What’s holding you back?
