I’d be interested to see Ascended Sentinel’s, as it is sorely lacking from Exotic level.
You can buy the inscriptions to make Sentinel exotics.
I think Red is probably right. The last few that I can think of were the dragon bash where you had to be there to watch the fireworks. And the Sanctum event where you had to be there to watch the magic show or whatever it was.
My guess is one or no “be there at x time” achieves.
Every time they have added ascended gear my motivation to play has just plummeted and this is no different. I just have no desire to play due to this.
That is the most ridiculous thing that has been said here. You have lost interest in the game because something was added that doesn’t change your gaming experience in even the most remote way possible?
Sounds like you already lost interest and are looking for something to blame.
you must not read much around here if this is the most ridiculous you have ever seen.
look, it is a gear grind for this new tier of gear. and it also signals (well it was apparent when they first announced ascended gear) that this is the direction of progression of the game. I much preferred GW1’s style of skill progression rather than this gear progression. If I wanted this type of progression I can go play hundreds of other mmos that have this.
I was being slightly facetious when saying that. Doesn’t change the fact that what that person said is ludicrous. Losing interest in the game simply because a new, unimportant tier of gear came out? Come on now…..
I know this game is grindy. We all know that. I don’t think it’s that bad. It’s something you don’t need to do any content in the game except possibly higher level fractals that aren’t even out yet and there is no timeline as to when that might happen. Still, the anger about this is ridiculous and they haven’t even released the armor yet.
@daros: I can take the payback =P
Still I think this is being blown way out of proportion. Yes, it is a grind to make ascended gear. I feel like I am fairly casual at playing this game and I don’t have much trouble getting the mats and gold to equip my toon with ascended stuff. When you judge anet’s decision to make ascended the way they did, you need to understand that they are doing it based on the majority of players. They have to gear most content to the large casual population that plays this game as that is their bread and butter (the people who are most likely to buy gems). Does it stink for someone like you who just wants to run fractals and progress further? Sure, but I have a feeling that you will easily be able to craft some ascended armor long before any new fractal tier comes out.
@Raccoon:
I get what you are saying. We all want the best, coolest, newest stuff. Take a look at the stat difference between exotic and ascended, even with 6 pieces. It’s really not that much of an increase. I think I saw someone calculate it to be about 3% total increase. I see ascended as being the last tier of gear for a long time if not forever. I wouldn’t worry about it if it takes you months to craft a set. I’m sure you will do just fine with your nightly dungeon runs.
More than likely, the insignias will have to be salvaged from exotic soldier’s gear.
If you do not wish to buy it, the next source of quartz will be within the next 6 months when the Zephyr Sanctum makes a return.
You say that like people have a problem with, or don’t acknowledge the act of buying quartz as a viable option. Everyone knows it is; not everyone can nor should sustain 4.25g per recipe just on quartz alone.
None of this was a problem when there was a supply; that has since been completely ransacked. And I love how people say there was “fair warning”; neither has everyone been around long enough to get that message nor does everyone have a quartz node in their home instance.
It’s ok to admit when a process is poorly designed, and in this case it totally is. The frustration, as much as can be spent on the issues that arose, extends to those whom, for whatever reason, don’t see a problem.
At the very least, whatever intention there was to limit production of Celestial items should be lifted and quartz made more accessible. For starters, every player should have the opportunity to put a quartz node in their home even outside this silly living story sequence. It’s completely unfair to people who either missed it or didn’t arrive in GW2 until after the opportunity passed. We’re not talking about some uber-exclusive reward here, like a skin. Item nomenclature doesn’t deserve this ridiculous supply and time-gated choke, at least not anymore.
Your fairness argument is invalid. If you bought the game too late, that’s too bad. Not everything can, nor should it have to be, fair all the time.
Having said that, I agree with you. This time gating of celestial is silly and poorly implemented. The least anet could do is post about this explaining why they think it’s a good idea to time gate one set of armor completely different than the rest. I would love to hear their logic and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t even want celestial armor. What they should really do is make the charged quartz tradable so the people who have them and will never use them can sell them to the people who can use them. Such a simple solution.
2. My point is, a very small percentage of the population plays the higher level fractals where ascended armor is “needed”. Why would anet base the entire acquisition of ascended armor on such a small amount of people? The decision to do it the way they did was based on the large amount of casual players they have. You know, the people the game is geared and marketed toward. Stop having such a narrow view of the situation based on your anger about the situation.
3. I realize how “easy” it is to change HP, mobs and change a couple of instabilities. However, have you even played this game the last year or so? It takes anet ages to do anything or add any new content unless it’s LS or gem store stuff. The point is, they just updated fractals, if you think anet is releasing a new tier anytime soon, it would be a dramatic change from their previous behavior in regards to content updates.
Nice job trying to brush me off with even more rage filled nonsense. You are also correct, I never played 40+, but that doesn’t mean I don’t understand you need more agony resist at higher levels. Fractals have always been about acquiring more AR to progress, so what makes this any different?
I never even argued that you wouldn’t need ascended armor to get more AR to get further. Still not sure why you are complaining about grind. It’s no secret there is grind in this game. People need to stop pointing to when anet said they don’t want to make a grindy game, because, you know what, it’s too late for that. The game is all about grind and has been for a while. Deal with it or find a new game.
So they get out of this one on a technicality.
I never thought I’d see the day were politicians would run the kittening games we play.
It’s even worse than you assumed. It’s the people who control the politicians who run the games you play.
Yo Anet, sup.
Surely you have noticed how unhappy your customers are with the last patch “Fractured” you released.
Do you plan on giving us feedback on it?
There are thousands of posts telling about how your customers dislike that patch. The reasons for this have been stated constructively and clearly.
The player-base is wondering what kind of measures you are going to take to prevent this lack of quality in the future. We can bear one bad patch, but I am afraid we can not bear the idea of your studio being okay with releasing such content.
The question is: do you care about your customers being dissatisfied or not?
This should have been asked like 3 months ago. When was the last time a patch was really good, bug free and had lots of positive feedback?
No. People would just pick or choose the fractals. The fractals from 1-9 are incredibly easy and leave a lot of room for errors. The problem is that people are often skipping these. I constantly see people with lower personal reward levels in the 10-19 tier. They’re pretty obvious about it in chat.
So much this ^^
It has gotten better the last few days, but the week before that was terrible. I’m not saying you need tons of AR when doing 10-19 fractals, but I can’t tell you the number of people doing 16+ who not only had no AR, but couldn’t dodge the agony attacks and were downed half the time because of agony.
I don’t mind helping people, but coming in with no AR and playing that way is just rude really. I’m not the best player, but I don’t want to carry people simply because they refuse to progress through normally and want better rewards with less time input.
The thing about it, you get a group of people saying they “hate scarlet” then you get the bandwagon people who follow so they can have a good whinge on the internet, next thing you know everybody hates Scarlet.
Theres nothing wrong with the Scarlet story, and anyone with at least half brain knows it.
You have just lost all credibility. The like or dislike or Scarlet is completely subjective to each individuals likes and dislikes. That’s like saying “I really loved that movie Terminator, anyone with a half a brain knows it was a good movie.” Does that make any sense? Some people will like it and some won’t. You liking it is an opinion and not a fact.
What was said above is spot on. Scarlet wouldn’t be so bad if she was used more sparingly. I know we are in the middle of this story arc, but wouldn’t it be more interesting and realistic if we were fighting different bad guys from time to time. They don’t even need to create a whole other arch villain. There could just be random events that needs a hero’s attention every once in a while, not the old, “OK what has Scarlet done this time?” Mix it up a little, that’s all most people are asking. Even ice cream, when consumed 3 times a day for 3 months gets old, and let’s face it, ice cream is delicious.
Why don’t we make everything obtainable in a matter of hours and hand max armor to new people that just start the game?
Frankly, that would be a marvellous idea. It worked that way in GW1, and it worked.
100% agree, GW was never about gear, but game play and looks. Let us be able to “Grind” and “farm” sweet looking armor skins and add another 20+ armor sets into the game, more weapon skins and give us some more dungeons with 10man content instances.
agrees, some people dont mind that it seems. Again i would go back to “grind only for looks, not stats” and BiS stats should be easily accessible.
“Then whats the problem?” Mireles asks me.
The problem is, respectfully speaking, is that I login a few hours a day here to play with friends. We, my friends and I, do dungeons. For me, personally, after the dungeon runs, I barely have enough time for not much else. I need to sleep, working the day after yknow. So by that alone, NO dragonite ore, thus no ascended crafting.
Unless i go zerging with the zergs. which leaves me no time for dungeons i spose?
If you login every day just to run dungeons and play with friends, why would you feel even remotely pressured to have ascended items? I run dungeons all the time and have one ascended weapon (GS). I have never felt like I needed an additional 2% stat gain to be more effective or have fun. Do you feel the need to get those 10 minute CoF P1 runs from 10 minutes down to 9 minutes 59 seconds?
Every time they have added ascended gear my motivation to play has just plummeted and this is no different. I just have no desire to play due to this.
That is the most ridiculous thing that has been said here. You have lost interest in the game because something was added that doesn’t change your gaming experience in even the most remote way possible?
Sounds like you already lost interest and are looking for something to blame.
There is nothing you can do at this point to recycle it or change it.
I also don’t see them adding something like this anytime soon or making them salvageable. Rings aren’t even salvageable and should have been LOOOOOOOOONG ago.
I farmed a world-boss, I farmed a world-boss again Hey! I farmed it again, that’s great.
You could say the same about anything in this game.
I ran CoE1,2,3….oh I did it again the next day, oh I did it again the next day.
I captured a keep, oh we captured another one, oh and another….
There isn’t anything in this game that isn’t repetitive.
I think we can all agree at this point that it isn’t a true “play how you want” game, unless of course you play a kittenty build, then of course, it’s play how you want. Seriously though, anet wants people to get involved in all aspects of the game and this is the way they have chosen to do so. I don’t see it changing anytime soon, especially if you are posting this in the dungeon forums. Who at anet is even going to see it?
Wow, you people are really stinkin lazy. Not only are there like 40 threads about this same thing, but it’s on the website if you take like 15 seconds of your time to do a little reading.
In fact, in the time it took you to type out this thread, you could have already had the information about it.
Too many people are not realizing how nice it is of anet to even offer gold to gem conversion so that you can play the game and not spend a single penny. Don’t forget that the only thing that drives this game is the gem store and it’s not from you folks who trade gold for gems.
I also have a feeling that 99% of the people here have never owned a business or even understand what it takes to do so. I think Penguin has made some really good points about why this is not only OK, but completely normal in the world of business. There isn’t a company around that doesn’t offer special discounts, sales or freebies to customers who spend more money. Anyone who goes out into the real world and spends money on consumer items will see this method being applied everywhere they go.
Finally, I can agree to some extent that this is a slippery slope situation when they start to make certain things only available to people who spend real money. However, this is not a case of something even remotely close to a P2W situation. It is a small luxury item that means nothing to anyone other than the hardcore collector’s. If and/or when anet starts to add things that become game changing that are only available to paying customers, you people will be able to make your arguments then about the wrong direction anet is taking. Until then, it’s time to put this topic to rest.

Platinum is already pretty expensive comparatively, which is kind of surprising considering it’s easy to come by in higher level zones.
@nagr:
I always have SoR, FGJ and at least one banner. Almost impossible to PUG a dungeon and not have at least one other warrior, so I usually don’t have two banners.
I will switch out the BL on the GS and thanks for the good info on DPS rotation. I do follow Nike’s build exactly 30/25/0/0/15, except I run warrior’s sprint instead of signet mastery, but that won’t affect DPS other than being able to use SoR a little less. Yes, I hate running slow….. =)
Why not use GS auto attack? It adds, I believe, 10s of vuln on the first 2 hits.
Gems purchased in store directly and codes redeemed both count toward the total.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-black-lion-wintersday-rewards-event/
According to the news post, all gems purchased directly or gem codes redeemed count toward the total. Your gift will be given to you sometime in January.
@laharl: I usually start with axe 2/4 then GS 2(3 as well if on a wall) then GS 111 for the vuln and use eviscerate when possible. Obviously things change sometimes depending on the fight, like a/m 5 is good for knockdown.
@Grog: That clears things up for me. For some reason I always thought that when you see the GS numbers that was each swing, but makes more sense that it is a total cumulative damage. Duh!! (on my part)
EDIT: Thanks for all the input so far guys. I feel better knowing I am at least doing all I can short of getting into organized groups, other than maybe having the perfect DPS rotation and maybe some sigils in the wrong spots.
The argument at hand is the fact that some players are saying they are “forced” to do something. No one is forced to do anything. If you want the mini, the option is there to get it. So then if that same player decides not to buy 4k Gems to get the bonus, that’s their choice.
That is not my argument. Anyone who says they are forced to buy it is wrong. I am saying that if you want it, the only way to get it is to spend $50 on gems (unless of course you want to spend $700 on ebay). Therefore, if you want it, you are forced to shell out $50 as opposed to being able to convert gems —> gold like everything else in the store.
The mistake you keep making is that you think players who “need” to have it, have no choice but to pay the $50 for Gems. That’s is incorrect. There is a choice. Anet isn’t to blame here. It’s the individual players who have a compulsion. They’re compelled to buy it for whatever their reason are. It’s these players who I feel should get some professional help outside of the game. Be it OCDs or an addiction to collecting everything, if they’re forcing themselves to do something they don’t want to (i.e. spending money), you can never blame the company that’s providing the object of their desires.
What other way is there to get one besides paying $50 for gems?
I totally agree with everything else you said about OCD. That does not change the fact that the only way to get it is to pay $50.
Is it the Vegas Casino’s fault that someone is addicted to gambling? It’s it Mattel’s fault if a customer spends all their money collecting Barbie dolls? And is it truly Anet’s fault for offering an optional virtual item that doesn’t affect the game in any way?
Of course it’s not anet’s fault and I am not blaming them in any way for anything. I even stated several posts back that I have absolutely no issue with this whole thing. Blaming things on companies or other individuals is a very large issue in our society, but that is another topic for another day.
@Neko: I realize teamwork is key. I am in a small guild that doesn’t dungeon much anymore. That is why I mostly PUG.
@laharl: The video in question was a duo run, both warriors and I think they had strength and disc banners down. Surely, they were maxed on might and bloodlust (not sure on vuln or fury).
I just have a hard time believing that I am not doing something wrong or that there isn’t more I could do. I have been in groups with multiple warriors where several banners were down, I was maxed on might and bloodlust. How could the extra few bonuses double(or even quadruple) my damage from 35k (keep in mind that was the most I have ever seen, typically it’s in the mid-20’s) to 75-80k?
I main warrior.
I run full zerk everything with scholar runes. Also have a ascended GS.
I basically copied Nike’s build from here: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83915-axemace-dps-build-for-dungeons-and-fractals-101513/
So, GS with sigil of bloodlust. Have one axe with sigil of force and one with sigil of night, mace has Sigil of battle. For melee I use GS-A/M.
In dungeons I always use consumables. Typically, potent potions (inquest, flame legion,…..) or Superior Sharpening stones if no potion applies. I also use dragon breath buns as the cheap alternative that was suggested.
So, I am watching some of the DnT duo/solo runs in fractals and I am seeing them hitting the molten creature in dredge fractal with 100b for 80k or so on final shot. Then talking to a guildie who tells me he hits the Mark-T in CoE for 60k on the final swipe at times.
My question is, I have never hit anything over 35k with the final swipe of 100b, so what am I doing wrong? I’ve run a lot of dungeons, fractals and open world content and can’t get higher than that in any group. Typically, I hit in the mid-20’s or so. How are you guys hitting so hard? It doesn’t seem like I can change anything in my build to get more DPS.
If you want the mini, you are forced to spend money on gems. What I said is not wrong.
What I was agreeing with is that this is the first time anet is actually making you spend actual money to get something in game.
I am not saying you are being forced to buy the mini, but if you want it, you must spend money.
I’m not even QQing. I don’t care about the mini and won’t intentionally spend money on gems to get it.
No one is “making” you buy the Gems. The individual player who wants the bonus makes the decision on their own accord.
Did I not clearly say that in my post? Of course they are not forcing you to do anything. They are making it so the only way to get something in game is to spend real life money and this is the first time (that I can think of) that they are doing so. That is what the OP was trying to say.
But the second step made me to write about it.
Making people who support the game and gather those special minis (fortunately I’m not one of them, but still…) to buy 4k gems in order to get 1 mini that most likely they miss is like kicking someone below his belt. The second you suggest they are making anyone buy anything, you no longer have any credibility.
Technically, he is correct. If the only real way to get something in game is to buy it in the gem store, they are “making” you buy it. He didn’t mean it in the sense that anet is forcing players to spend money.
It appears you do not understand what making or forcing means. A lack of basic understanding explains so much about the irrational comments around these forums.
You are barking up the wrong tree when you try to lump me in at all with anyone here who makes irrational comments.
Having said that, I don’t think you are understanding what me or the OP is trying to say. I am NOT saying anet is forcing anyone to buy anything. What I was agreeing with is that this is the first time anet is actually making you spend actual money to get something in game. No one needs these items, but that doesn’t change the fact that the only way to get them is to spend money on gems.
Personally, I don’t agree with the OP on the subject. I think anet can and should do whatever they want to make money to support their company and the game. I think it was generous of them in the first place to allow people to trade gold for gems and I also think a lot of people forget about that when they complain about the gem store. If this behavior turns people off, then those people are free to not purchase it or go play another game.
People who vendored their rings would be mad. I wouldn’t though, I saved mine… Lol
Too bad for them I guess. Something should be done about this and if it means making the 100 people who vendored their rings mad, then so be it. =)
Congrats on your group, evenhas a ranger in it. Very good.
How come people always bash on my ranger? xD I’ll put out there that players that know their class well enough to adapt on the fly can do just as good >.ob
People aren’t hating on your ranger, they hate on rangers in general.
It stems from a long time of seeing just brutally awful ranger play in dungeon runs.
According to the post by anet you can purchase gems or redeem codes and they it all counts toward the 4000 gems.
99% sure you need to spend money on the gems. I see no reason for anet to give out special rewards to people without making money off of it.
According to their post, all you have to do is buy the gems. Once they have their money, they don’t care how or when you spend the gems.
While we are on this subject, is there a place to buy precursors at half price?
For me, mist essence never dropped before the patch, now it’s raining from the skies. My first 150+ fractals I got like 3 globs. The last 20 or so I got 5 globs.
I’m glad they upped the drop rate (assuming they did anyway) because it was ridiculous before.
They need to do something about the rings. They keep adding more and more into the economy with no way to remove them. That’s just bad design.
There are countless ways to deal with this issue and any solution is better than nothing.
There not adding anything into the economy. The ascended rings are all account bound and just take up bank space.
Its probably a marketing strategy, I believe its behaving like mystic kit now or even better to attract buyers.
And they will revert the kit to normal after the sale ends.
I understand Anet does some unpopular things sometimes, but christ dude, they’re not Snidely Whiplash
Sorry Im not familiar with Snidely (googled it, the cartoon he’s in was in ’60s and no character description in wiki, thought I could see a history of his dirty marketing)
Anyway, the description in-game doesnt match its performance. A post above showed that copper kit is salvaging at a rate on par with mystic kit. This is misleading.
The point is, if the description says “basic”, then it’s a basic kit that is bugged (or intentionally changed) to work at a higher rarity level. You are buying the item based on the description in game. If you buy it based on the description in game and it is reverted back to it’s basic form, you weren’t duped/tricked by anet in any way.
The only reason most people would even know it other than buying it and trying it is from this forum post.
Sounds like you don’t even run fractals if you don’t know where to get mist essence. If that is the case, why are you wasting the time to infuse the ring when it does nothing for you outside of fractals?
You get 1 Empyreal Star, 1 Bloodstone Brick, and 1 Dragonite Ingot.
So pretty much the worst meta reward of all time.
Candy corn mining instance anyone ??
It seems you have the common problem of not reading the party info before joining.
I PUG every night and I can confirm people are unable or unwilling to read even 4 word lfg posts.
Probably the same folks QQing about this sort of thing on the forums…….
to OP: This is just another classic case of someone wanting something changed that doesn’t affect them in even the slightest way. Take some advice from police chief Wiggum: “Nothing to see hear folks, move a long.”
I posted a similar, almost exact recommendation on another forum…
I also recommend the add (AR 5-10), (AR 10-20) so that new players don’t think “oh, im 80, I will try a 30….” and they then get kitten cause they get kicked from the team.
Adding gear checks into the lfg is a slippery slope.
It’s tough because you have to balance it, but I would think zerk would end up being the best. Less hits it takes to burn the boss down, the less damage you take.
That is from the original Guild Wars. Wrong game my friend!
Bank Slots (character-specific) and Bank Tabs (accountwide) will be very useful down the track, think of them as your real estate.
Careful with the Bank Slots – you’ll probably only want them on your main character, and since you are just starting out you might end up shelving the character you put them on.
The Transmute Crystals (blue) will be necessary to look nice when you’ve reached max level, and if you go for the 25-crystal deal you’ll almost certainly use them all
- but DO NOT BURN THEM until you are lvl 80; use the free yellow transmutes you get from completing zones until then.
You are inadvertently being misleading here. You can purchase bank tabs which is your main bank that any character can access and you can store all your stuff. These are nice to buy when on sale and they do fill fast as you collect mats and play through LS stuff accumulating all the skins and stuff.
Then you have backpack slots. These are per character. If you have a main toon, it’s nice to unlock them all so you aren’t constantly going to a merchant.
Grind
Then grind some more
Then grind even more.
-OR-
Get lucky =P
Sadly you can’t do anything about that and ANET doesn’t read the dungeon forum (or maybe once in a while). The best you can do is form your own group and start the instance, or join a guild and play with them.
problem is, even if you make group it doesn’t stop ppl from kicking you
i did cof p2 once, for w/e reason the group decided to accuse me in constant dying to mobs ( i died one time in entire run) and kicked me on last boss, despite me opening the dungeon heh
I am not saying this is the case here, but I have a feeling that when people say stuff like “I only died once the entire run”, that might be a slight exaggeration. Maybe you were downed a bunch of times or whatever. People QQ on this forum all the time about being kicked and not one time that I can remember did that person accept any possible fault.
I am saddened.
I think, as stated above that one of the prime reasons A-Net will not be updating dungeon rewards is because giving gold to players (even for their time and work) is lessening the chance that they spend real money on gems in the cash shop.
Other reasons may include the fact that they are completely out of touch with the dungeon community and have exhibited disdain towards those who optimize runs.
I think it’s your second reason. It’s obvious that they never post in this forum which means they probably don’t have anyone dedicated to actually working on dungeon content/design.
I would agree to some extent about the gems, but it’s not like we are asking them to up it to 10 gold/path. Simple balance like CoF 1 = 50s or less for that matter and bump some up a little to be actually in line with time/effort involved. As was said originally when this issue came up: It’s as if they literally just picked numbers out of a hat when choosing the rewards.
It would look more organized, but does it really matter?
LFG tool is still technically in beta so, my guess is, they will change it eventually.
I think ANET knows the rewards are unbalanced, and that a “fix” woud take only 5 minutes. However, they seem to believe it will have an impact on the economy. (Because buy more gems!!!)
In their defense, they don’t even have time to test the bi-weekly updates, where are they supposed to find that extra 5 minutes to properly (or at least attempt to) balance the rewards?
