And you get better looking skins by advancing in glory rank and winning tourny chests.
Stop playing hotjoins.
Id say you will see thiefs in 75% of the frees you do, but maybe not on the other team.
And maybe 50% of the paids you do.
In tournies, especially paid tournies its elemenatlists who are overrespresenatitve.
In fact, in high ranked play thiefs hardly exist at all.
So, the higher the pvp rank u climb the less thiefs you see! gives you something to work towards. Unfortunately the more ele’s you see. :/

Its annoying as hell. One thing would help would be if they made tournies 1vs1.
I think, especially late at night , ppl Q and afk or log after they dont get a pop for 20 mins or a half hour.
Still, i would really like to see a penalty come in for people who quit/afk in tournies.
I was trying out a sigil of accuracy on my off hand weapon.
I notice that in my paper display hero sheet my crit chance does not change despite the sigil saying it offers 5% more crit.
When i try with steady weapons it correctly adjusted my crit.
So, either
1) the display is bugged and the 5% isnt showing up but applying or worse
2) the 5% from accuracy sigils isnt effecting the crit of people using it.
Anyone else having this issue? IM on an engy, so maybe its unique to them, ive never wanted to use that sigil before, so this is an isolated observation.
We dont know yet, being perma slowed might really effect the ele.
I expect eles will still rule this map, but i woudlnt be shocked if they didnt.
Of the 4, mesmer burst is the lowest, but it does some conditions and also has some semi decent aoe, making it good in teamfights.
It also has some boon stripping ability. So mesmers, give up a tiny bit of burst for there damage.
Ofc mesmers also have timewarp. Which is powerful as heck.
The warrior burst is as good as anything and his attacks hit like a truck. The issue is the warrior has little in the way of sustain or disengage. Meaning the warrior , if his initial burst fails when he joins a fight, can really struggle.
Thief backstab is incredibly powerful against people who have trouble protecting themselves against it. Like knowing when to dodge/use defensive skill. Thiefs are hard to play in high end play, but they dominate low end play. They have good disengage, but poor sustainability.
Engineer has really been rising in the ranks lately. the pure 100nades spec big issue is that its the hardest of all the burst combos to land. Engies have decent (relative to the other power dps listed here) sustain, but below average disengage-only better than a warrior.

I dont think a situation where you have to use a certain class to win should be allowed to persist this long. How hard would it be just to ninja patch the ele before this time? Plus I am not holding my breath on these nerfs. Not sure Anet realise just how strong eles can be. I mean even average eles are a powerful tool for a team.
If you caught the recent state of the game, they know. I think the 26th isnt so very far away , assuming thats when the balance patch comes. At any rate, i wish they would relase what balance changes they want to make , so they can get feedback.
Im sure they have some idea who is worth listening to, and who isnt.
Thats a very good suggestion, an appearance control function.
It’s awful. Not only does it suffer from the problems you listed. But it doesn’t teach you how to play the game mode (3 point conquest , 5vs5, on those respective maps).
If ppl started to get out of hotjoin and doing tournies they would quickly find out about positioning, relevant specs, etc. Hotjoins are super casual, but i dont think even casuals love em.
When they player base was big a solo/duo Q in free’s would have been immensly useful. They probably need to do something about it now, but its alot more tricky now.
I’d really like to see them do something with free tournaments.
When i dont have a team on it sucks to wait 30 mins for a Q pop.
I know they said two pvp patchs where coming, one in feb. One in march. Im looking forward to the new map.
BUT, it would be nice to know more. Like are any balance changes coming with this patch.
People who want a solo Q, just have to accept that it is a more long term issue. Thats certainly not coming out on the feb patch, nor have they given any indication it would , nonetheless some people will act like it was promised and they got robbed.
Balance =/ equal variety.
A class can be balanced with only 1 viable spec.
A class which can be played a variety of ways can be unbalanced.
Various spec/builds are themselves individually balanced or not.
Based generally on ability to perform a function or role competitively (ie you can bring this class for that function your not forced to pick another class). -The build can hold up in top end play so its confidently not a l2p issue. Not all classes are going to be equally balanced at all roles or functions. As mentioned you cant bring any class to do everything, thief bunkers can’t perform the role as well as a guardian bunker. Guardian dps is fine but they are slower than thief so dont fit that roll of power dps as well. (generally. Guardian dps is way closer to viable than theif bunker which is just lawlz).
Its not a precise science of course. It would be nice if classes had more vareity of balanced play. Great in fact.
But its incredibly hard to buff stuff without people finding ways to combo it with what is already strong to get something OP.

Necros are one of the most balanced class’s in the game. The only thing that needs fixing is the no rally/no points thing on killing em.
Thiefs will make there money killing other team orb runners. Defending there orb runner. Or backcapping enemy while fight over orb taking place.
I doubt seriously thiefs will be viable orb runners.
yes, bugs oftne influence what is, and isnt op.
Right now, necros are enjoying the no give points/rally bug.
which is annoying but not entirely gamebreaking as necros arent an OP class.
Still, they really need to fix it.
Cast bars wont be introduced. Its against the design philosophy of this game. There would have to be nearly universal outcry from wvw and the pve crowd alongside us for this.
I know they wanted to use the same map over and over in order to gain data, but it does get frustrating playing the same map continiously. Hopefully they can move to randomizing that map soon.
As far as MMR creating a time delay, i dont see a way around that. Also playing the same people is annoying and seems to be the case mostly for those at the bottom and the top of the bell curve.
Its not suprising a necro beat a mesmer 1on1 frequently. Mesmers really struggle with dealing with condition damage.
In fact probably the worst thing you can fight as a memser is a trap ranger.
1on1 matchs are not always good matchups. But a mesmer is probably a little stronger overall than a necro in team games.
But a mesmer 1 vs 1 against a necro, would i think go the necros way more often than not. but if you beat him like 10x in a row, hes probably doing something wrong.
This might sound like heresy but mesmers are not a great 1on1 class.
WArrior vs mes =mes should probably win
thief vs mes= close to 50/50 probably tiny favor in mes.
necro vs mes=favors necro
ranger vs mes =favors ranger big time
ele vs mes=if its at a reasonability high level of play , ele should win the vast majority.
mes vs mes=washout.
guardian vs mes =who cares guardians are bunkers. mes, but over a decent time length.
Engy vs mes= Engy if hes speced right believe it or not. I dont play engy very often and i solo mesmers who are higher rank and good mesmers. (depends alot on engy spec).
I know these forums like to complain about mesmers alot, but the truth is outside of hotjoins and lower ranked players in frees they dont really dominate that much. Its timewarp, and not the mesmer that make trouble.
1on1 power matters alot also. As it allows one to create positional match up issues. this is why rangers and eles are so popular atm, they are very strong at 1on1. And also solid at teamfighting.
My examples are only to illustrate over a reasonable sample size, who would win more than 50%.

When i hop on my thief, which is rare nowadays i dont have trouble hitting an asura or backstabbing em , any more than anything else.
The only issue is noticing key animations for important dodges now and then.
Thiefs are not OP. My goodness, they can actually at times be a liability at high end play.
I’m sorry they give you trouble. They dont scare me much. Good thiefs are of course deadly, and of course everyone dies to them, but they are easy to kill, easy to pressure. Good eles are way more troubling.

This probably wont be able to be answered yet mate.
They will want to see the map in pratice for a little bit, and assuming it doesnt have any glaring problems (like crapicorn) then maybe it will become tourny.
But, i mean i think tourny is the ambition for this map, they will just want to make sure it doesnt have any glaring balance issues , or is to favorable for certain class comps. So it might get tweaked b4 going into tournies. Or maybe they will just try it out in tournies for a few days to test it.
Make winning just give you a gold chest. and make 50% of chests give you tickets.
So , assuming you win 50% of tournies, thats 3 or 4 matchs to a tickets. similar to now.
Id like if they made frees 1vs1.
And of course its not a real tournament. Its a legacy holdover word being used to describe the new emerging system.
They want ast little graphix on the screen as reasonable. So they would have display philosophy that would make using a cast bar undesirable for them.
I agree it would be a solution, but its not one Anet would like to see used. Even if they just put cast bars in for spvp.
So, buff asura size.
Also i think they want the skill curve of players being able to recognize animationz, which is dandy but asura animations are so much harder to see specially in team fights.

If your getting your rank from doing only hotjoins and dont play tournies ever thats not going to be sufficient sorry :/.
They wont add cast bars, its against the No UI display philosophy of the game.
I think a small size boost to asuras in spvp would be a reasonable fix.
If they need to differentiate pvp/pve then thats what they need to do.
Ive noticed this in duels with guildies.
WE decided to test it out by dueling about 30 times. 30 times vs a human vs 30 times vs an asura. Same player same class, same spec. Its a little bit harder to beat an asura over a large sample size.
So, it really is an issue its not just in the ops head.

Umm shatter mesmers really struggle vs trap rangers bc the traps eat up our clones. and the immoblize traps often even stop the shatter combo landing.
The top team in Na atm is probably PZ. They dont run a thief, i heard some of there members say they felt thiefs didnt bring enough to groups typically.
But, thiefs do give newer players alot of trouble.
Do you use shatter spec, and know how it works?
Bc if u want to be melee dps on a mesmer, thats sort of how u do it.
I posted a few weeks back about getting a team together.
Had several people hit me up, but would like to add more so that we can have 5 on
consistantly. We are on anvil rock in Na.
Here are the requirements.
1. Have vent/mic. Communicate during matchs.
2. Be focused pretty much entirely on spvp.
3. resonably Mature and respectful attitude.
4. Our main playtimes are 9pm est to 1 am est. So typically be on around those times.
5. Bring a competitive attitude and be willing to listen to feedback.
6. It would help if your good with at least two different classes.
7. Rank 28+
Mainly looking for a Ele/guardian/necro.
But anybody who isnt a thief or warrior is welcome to try (we have plenty of those already).
Im usually on most evenings so if your interested in trying out let me know.

Many rangers run with no stun breaker, so if u can set 2 ppl up to kill em and get a stun off u can usually burn em down.
With solo queue/ladder/rating i wouldn’t need friggin team nor would i look for one, nor would i have too look for one in order to compete, that’s the whole point. Who says 100 people who play paids constantly are the best pvp players in this game? Maybe there are 100 people who don’t want/cant play as a team who are better than those 100 team players? Without solo queue no one will ever know.
This is a fair point. But i think theres something to be said for teamwork skill.
People would know who the best solo players are, and who the best team players are.
Obviously good solo players would be able to play well in a team. And likewise, good team players who are in the high end paids would undoubetly do well solo.
Burst is important on eles. in particular stick with them if they dont ride the lighting away after you make em burn mistform.
Also try to notice when they use it, they arent a bad target if mistform is down.
I feel that hotjoin was an error, they should have started 1team vs 1 team , solo Q and team Q right from the start.
Deaths/kills would be nice. Stuff about points sure, but boons done etc no way thats too class depedent.
Damage done might be ok, but i mean a bunker guardian could well be the player of the match and last on damage done.
Long bow builds till involve Gs. Everything viable on warrior invovles great sword. I think thats part of the issue.

Seriusly, if you see a thief in the tourny line up, you should always be ready to use ur stunbreak or dodges.
well eles can be vunerable to confusion stacking, and eles/mesmers do that well.
I notice theres a ton of players who complain about mesmers/thiefs.
And theres good players. Its strange how the top players dont seem to think mesmers/thiefs are op.
Mesmers are a strong class though, definately. Mostly because of timewarp and portal. But, i just dont think these classes are that bad.
