If you know a mesmer is portaling don’t actually kill the treb all the way, leave just a little so they have to waste the portal and put it on cooldown.

This tactic works very well. They will run off to get the next repair kit but sit for a while wondering why the kit hasn’t spawn…. cuz you left the treb at 1% and didnt kill it. Mesmer wastes time.

So.. waited 12 minutes for a soloq.

Noticed a player on my team just running in circles in the spawn area. He was just admiring the guy using the treb.

I asked “What are you doing? Are you a Rank1?”
(no response)

Later on, he follows me around the map like a lost kid in the mall, just watching me kill people.

Afterwards scoreboard showed he was a rank1, in a team of 30-50s.

He finally responds “what is rank1”

I told him "You should try doing hotjoin matches first before tournament/arena. "

He responds “I don’t know how”

tl;dr PvP UI/System is not intuitive for new players. Yea, there is a PVP instructor in the mist, but few actually talk to him. Also, the PVP menu icon at the top lets new players stumble into arena queue without knowing what it is.

I have more issues with all the special effects from explosion, smoke and etc flashing than numbers being in the way.

The annoyance isn’t that I can’t find the real mesmer, but more of… the target is lost now I have to try targeting again.

I can try clicking to target, but sometimes its too hard with all the stuff overlapping. (Try targeting with ranger/necro petting zoo) Could cycle tabbing but that takes awhile and hit or miss.

Directly allowing the use of town clothes in PvP or any combat situation may sound trivial, but its quite a complicated problem with how the inventory and equipment are structured. That being said, a version of this isn’t off the table. The amount of work for the gain just isn’t something the PvP team has bandwidth to tackle anytime soon. Keep the suggestions coming!

You can only carry so much. If they are 3capped, and still fighting off point, nothing you can really do. but pretend its 1v5 and go cap stuff yourself.

For ~90% of the PVP population (non leaderboard players) this new match making was good and made games more fun. Hopefully because they are enjoying it more the playerbase as a whole will expand…

However, in the meantime, for remaining veterans… games are cringe worthy. It’s like a basketball game with a mix of highschool and kindergarden players.

I think it is wrong for the time invested and what other investments were available at that time (real life tasks for example).
I think I am not the only one with around double that amount regretting many hours spent. But anyway, real value doesn’t come from the financial investment.

Edit: Mistake there, it is not superficial but rather flawed. The enjoyment of a customer is non-linear. This is also why a lot of customer data is gathered and evaluated. Putting it down to numbers doesn’t do it justice.

Entertainment is not an “investment”, it is rather a “sunk cost”.

OP got his fun out of it and got tired. Time to move on.

Peak/Prime time: matches are fun and 2/3 of the time balanced.

Off Peak time: matches suck for people on the leaderboard. Queue time is long because system waits forever trying to find player close to your MMR. After a set amount of time it gives up and toss you whatever player is available. Usually high chance of afk/leaver, clueless player that didnt know they queued, and low mmr players.

The time you queue during the day affects your game quality alot. Even the time of week and month.

Worst time to queue is first day of the month because of resets. PVE people flood in to do their monthly. Off peak hours are very inconsistent, very unlikely to get a even match up. Best during primetime. Friday night or weekends tend to get slightly better matchups because of increased population.

So if you want to climb the ladder then you gotta strategically plan your play times, but bleh thats too much work I just want to play =]

I use it to find 8v8’s with 16+ slots but the filter seriously needs to be able to show me just servers with PLAYABLE slots, not spectator.

I usually just look for 9/20 servers which mean its likely a 5v5, but not always. Don’t even bother with filter usually only a handful that are 9/20

I’ll add my 2cents as someone who’s transferred from EU to NA about a month ago

Seems to be way less people playing spvp in NA than EU thus games were always a wide range of pvp leveled players which NEVER happened in EU i never had people in game who were more than 10 levels above or below me, i doubt this change will do much to help NA

The only thing thats better in NA than EU is even tho the queue times are alot higher theres always people playing no matter what time it is, queue times are way shorter during peak times in EU but ones you get into the a.m. the queues get really high

I was stuck in that loop, didnt know of the bug till i transfered.

Now the 2nd bummer is if you transfer back to EU, you still won’t get chest until you play enough new EU match to cancel out the NA matches you played all month.

Well, you’re right on the curve where we stick new players.

We’ve talked about putting the default MMR to a lower number, might be something we want to do for the upcoming MMR/leaderboard reset.

Why don’t you simply put an entry rank for arenas? Rank 10 should be fine to avoid completely new SPVPers.

Some people just love that one profession and only play it.

Some people have multiple accounts and you never know they were dabbling in other professions. They can play their best profession when they go serious mode or in tournaments and then switch to other profession/accounts to fiddle around.

You just haven’t found that right build that fits your playstyle yet. Once you find it then it can easily last 10+ games =]

But system is too lax and doesn’t work. Eh, most people don’t even know about it.

This build does not include any changes to decay, but should make decay much more effective by eliminating sync queuing.

Because any decay you get is all removed/reset once you play another game to refresh. How does eliminating sync queue make decay more effective?

Just run into a corner and stare at empty space awaiting the queue pop!

If no one responds, you can still keep talking. They might be reading and might even follow through the plan, but too lazy to communicate back. Keep talking through out the match giving heads up etc. Some people are just passive.

Worst case no one listen/reads, you will just have to observe the minimap and make educated moves to carry them as much as possible.

Running a solo queue game today and we lose 500-40. The mesmer on my team shouts out, “I got number 1”.

This is a guy who spent the entire match playing off point and trying to kill players where it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever.

Please devs, get rid of these scoreboards. They are sending these players the wrong message. They think solo performance in a match somehow matters.

And please put something in the game to teach players about how to play this game properly, i.e. fight on point, dont be a solo hero, rez your teammates instead of running off.

Either that or just give players the ability to /kick people who aren’t playing correctly.

Don’t queue during offpeak hours. You’re likely going to get horrible matches ups.

Soloq atm stacks teams so matches are usually lopsided. The more you win, the ezier it is to keep winning since you get the better players. The more you lose, the harder it is to stop losing.

I was stuck in the 70-90% range for a while. You can only carry so much. The odds are against you. Many more 4v5, afk/leaver, and clueless R1-10 on your team in that range.

Eventually I clawed my way up to top50-100. I played no better now than when I was in the 70-90% range. Just the flawed system giving me better teams.

Tips to escape the pitfall of endless losses.

• Play during peak prime time hours. You are less likely to get a heavily lopsided matchup. More likely to get closer matched teams. If you are able to carry the team then you have the advantage. Once you make it to the top500 its better to queue during off peak hour since you are likely able to get the higher end of the stacked teams and will fight lower ranker players.
• If you lose or get horrible team-mates, take a break. Don’t queue up again immediately after the match. You will likely get them again on the same team or face the same opposing team. Likewise, if you get a good team and win, queue up again fast.
• Play multiple profession to counter the enemy and/or balance your team
• Try to find someone with similar rating and sync queue.

In-game PVP rank isn’t used to group players. Leaderboard rating is.

But the system is flawed right now. It finds 5 players with similar rating first, and then finds tries to match against another group. This results in lopsided teams. It becomes very apparent when the population of people queuing is low.

That is why i said the next patch will attempt to address this issue.
