Lets just hope that they’ve learned something from this to improve similar events moving forward. We can proactively track things ourselves on paper or other means but it’s clear that even doing that carefully won’t always gel with what the game records. I finally got 13/13 tonight in total surprise. It gave it to me on completion of Gendarran. The funny thing is that my list had me doing Blazeridge repeatedly because that’s the one that never advanced. I did five areas the very first night I participated. I know I got credit for all five because I did them specifically to advance Vorpp’s stuff. Gendarran was one of those five. /shrug

I’m not getting credit for Blazeridge despite full participation and successful events each time. This is issue is widespread, frustrating and it’s looking like it can’t be fixed easily. Perhaps lowering the number required for the achievement to nine or ten would be an option if nothing else? It seems like most are stuck on 11 or 12.

Zone not counting towards achievement

Clobimon.9652

I’m at 11/13 and I’m frustrated. I kept note of the ones I’d done and checked at each finish to see that it counted. It was all going smoothly until I had Blazeridge and Dredgehaunt left. Dredgehaunt hasn’t come up yet while I’ve been playing, but Blazeridge isn’t advancing for me even with two successful runs. I’ve done most of the rest multiple times hoping something would trigger, but no. :/ I know I kept my list properly so I guess I’ll just keep doing Blazeridge when it comes up.

So, yes, I’ll put my name on the list with everyone else saying there should have been something ingame to let players know which zones were being credited and which weren’t.

I was there for this and we were just five minutes in. I’ll take that over an auto-restart just a few minutes from finishing. With this event there probably isn’t a good time to update unless it can be done in the 15 minutes between events and also not reset the timer.

Players like to complain about this kind of stuff. The truth is the same kind of things have happened in every game I’ve played, and, the same complaining is always there. We just have to accept it when playing online games. No time is ever perfect for everybody.

Putting aside the point that achievement point competing is silly. At least to the level of complaining about it. People that didn’t play GW don’t seem to understand what the HoM is truly for and the reasons for it. Those that were GW players for a long time may still consider the skins and X00 points less than expected.

I’d put in several thousand hours into GW by the time just its second birthday was coming up. The game was still fresh, alive and we had the new campaigns every six months to look forward to. Then they sprang the news of GW2 and just one last expansion/campaign to come (Eye of the North with the Hall of Monuments). Once EotN was out for a while a lot of people stopped playing knowing that was the last major addition. Others continued to work on HoM stuff. So now they have players like myself with +5000 hours invested in a youngish game that they decided to put on ‘support status’ to create a new game. They told us from the announcement of GW2 that we would not be able to port characters or gold and items. Consolation for us was the HoM and many played many hours so we would earn the rewards. In the end, while some of the skins are nice, they’re not as nice as a lot of new stuff so few are used. The increase in achievement points is nice of them but I doubt many that maxed out HoM will say it’s everything they hoped for or expected. Had those complaining been there through it all they wouldn’t be either.

If they’re going to be adding to the home instances, or even if not, I’d like it if they added a free, direct travel button. Similar to the ‘go to guild hall’ button in GW. That or a permanent item to use such as the HoM item that takes you there and back to original location. It would save steps to get there that players will otherwise use to get there without fee; Mists, LA, home city, home instance. Of course with that we don’t get the return trip that would be so nice.

I think the best I ever got was an Elemental Sword in GW when they still sold for a lot (~450 plat for me). Anyway, I don’t think I’ve opened even one thousand coffers. I’m not buying any so it’s just what I’ve gotten from playing. It’s felt like a lot but I wouldn’t think it even 500. I’ve gotten one ticket and a risen knight mini so far, and one Cold Potion if that counts as anything. Regardless, I do think the chance for tickets is way too low, especially considering what they trade for.

Over and over for years – since the beginning of GW – I’ve constantly seen people have problems with time and time conversion and complain about it for some reason. Why and how? We all obviously have internet access. It takes just a minute one time to find out what the time difference is between where you are and PDT/PST (or, less time than it takes to write a post about it). Then all you have to do is remember. It’s not very difficult. I’m two hours ahead of Bellevue, Washington. I have been for the past eight years. I automatically convert stated start times of things to my time upon first read without getting all confused.

I’m one of those that completed the puzzle right away when the area first opened up in November. I’ll say it frustrated me but I kept at it until I got it done. The whole time I thought the end was right at the top of that first string of jets in the cave and when I finally got through that I was deflated to see more to it. Luckily I finished the rest on that first shot. I’ve never attempted it again. It’s been so long since I did it that I’m sure it would take me several tries to do it again.

When I saw that one of the points was up there for this event I wasn’t happy. I didn’t find out until later that I didn’t need to get it. Which was also after I was putting it off and just happened to see a Mes portalling and took the opportunity. IMO they did it right by not making it required. Even though I know I could do it eventually, they shouldn’t put required things like this in a spot that may be impossible for many to reach due to various circumstances.

I spent nearly that entire event weekend on Southsun… Well, the event itself felt like an entire day. Man that took a long time. Most of the rest of the time was attempting the jumping puzzle until I finally got it. Anyway, I went back one time with another character for about 30 minutes and that has been it. If the karka were to be toned down quite a bit I may visit more often as is even though there’s not much purpose. Even if they add a bunch of stuff to do, if they leave the mob difficulty I may just check it all out once and then ignore again.

Southsun as it’s been is nothing like what I had expected as they teased it prior to opening.

During the BC stop at least the skritt mostly ignore you during the initial “plant food” stage. I just entered and started clearing and it really didn’t take that long because I was able to clear in a pattern. It did take a bit for the final piece though. It ended up being a rock not far from the ramp down where you spawn in. Rocks are tough because I wouldn’t expect to destroy them.

TIMED PUZZLES SUCK!!! 6k hours in GW and a HUGE ArenaNet fan, but…

Anet, why does EVERYTHING have to be a challenge!?!?!?!? One of the problems I’ve been having with developers is that they don’t seem to have any clue of how to create fun gameplay outside of combat and “challenging” activities. So far GW2 is failing like all the rest in this area when I thought they would be different.

During development I read some things that’s sounded promising in the area of “lazy fun” activity within the game. As it stands right now there is none of that. There was all this talk of minigames and activities in the cities and so far we’ve gotten the keg thingie that nobody does in Hoelbrak.

Need more stuff that doesn’t involve frustration! :P

I think its strange they call them jumping puzzles in the first place. I always have. I guess the word fits, but I don’t feel as if I have solved anything in completing one. It doesn’t have the same feel or vibe as say a crossword puzzle or jigsaw puzzle. Its a set path with collision mechanics.
….

Some of them could be considered puzzles as you have to figure out the correct way to go, but yeah, a lot of them are more jumping ‘challenges.’ I guess they could name them as one or the other but it’s not real smooth to say “jumping puzzle and/or challenge.”
————————————
If you’re having problems with parts of a jumping puzzle or route to specific vistas check youtube. When I’ve been confused with something and get frustrated it’s helped to watch a quick vid of someone else doing it. I have yet to fail in an attempt to find a vid when I’ve checked. Most of the time I’ve been approaching something from the wrong way and making it much more difficult.

Getting that vista at the end of Tribulation Rift Scaffolding is probably one of the hardest, if not the hardest one to get in the non-WvW areas (the first time through). I actually can’t recall more than a couple that required that much effort so it’s not a huge issue really. Generally they’re just a matter of finding the proper way up, and that one isn’t too different… besides the challenge of getting up onto the scaffolding in the middle of a war zone.

In other words, nearly all the vistas are relatively easy and don’t require difficult jumping puzzles to complete zones.

I feel the idea was fine, but length was too much. I mean it was essentially a war against the karka, but 2 1/2 hours of constant battle doing pretty much the same thing just got old. (Someone in my overflow mentioned Starship Troopers and I couldn’t help thinking to myself, “yeah, that movie wasn’t very good.”) I think I might have spent almost as much time rezzing players as I did fighting. They got a lot of gold out of the ‘system’ in those few hours by way of repairs. I was fairly surprised with how many players we had stick with it all the way through. It seemed like a good number less than after 45-60 minutes, but still a lot. I was kind of afraid everyone was just gonna quit going on two hours.

btw, why is there not an achievement or title for boiling that crab?! In the least it should be added to the Bosses achievement. It took a lot more to take that out than do the others on that list.

Like a lot of people I thought that just getting past the first row of steam jet platforms was all there was. I didn’t expect the puzzle to be that long. When I saw that second line of them over the ledge I had to take a twenty minute break. Fortunately that part was easier as was the rest of the way.

Clobimon.9652

I’m a +7 year vet of GW so you can ‘sympathize’ with me if you’ve also had a lot of experience with the first game and were/are accustomed to free travel. I imagine similar suggestions have popped up prior to this, but just to make sure…

I’ll begin by saying I’m not completely against waypoint travel cost. However, as ANet has undoubtedly heard before, one of the better things in GW was the abililty for players to move around the map to join others to play and also for the purpose of completing certain objectives once your character is max level. I’ve seen numerous comments about the cost of waypoint travel in GW2 since launch, yet I understand the reasons they put a bit of a cost to it…
I don’t suggest that they eliminate waypoint cost completely (even if it’s a wish), but rather that they add attainable items that provide free travel from a specific waypoint to another (on a timer or not). This is something I’ve seen in other games with fast travel cost that seemed to work pretty well. In other words, add an attainable item from a specific event or boss that allows for free travel from one part of the map to another (example: free travel between waypoints in Frostgorge Sound and Malchor’s Leap).

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

Clobimon.9652

There’s at least one obvious reason why pretty much all games struggle these days; players are just plain @#%holes. People suck. The amount of complaining that goes on about even the smallest thing is alarming. I thought we were just playing a kitten game for some fun and entertainment. I didn’t realize that it was kicking my sister in the head, shooting my dog and burning my house down!

The game has been out ONLY 2 1/2 months. If you have full exotic armor right now, no matter what you think, it wasn’t all that hard for you to attain it. It’s been 2 1/2 months. Do you truly want to be done forever in this game attaining different and/or better gear?? It’s been 2 1/2 months! In a lot of games you would have nowhere near the ‘best’ gear already. In some cases it might take ten times this long. If your intention is/was to play this game for quite a while are/were you content with never changing your gear again, after only 2 1/2 months?

If you have earned the dungeon gear than you’ve been playing the game and you’re likely a person that participates in the more difficult portions of the game. Wouldn’t you then most likely participate in new content and the more difficult portions of said content? It sounds like by just participating in that you’ll end up acquiring these new items.

I guess I should just come to grips with the fact that for the rest of my life any game I play is going to be filled with people believing that they are being tormented, abused or always wronged in some manner. I’d hope a lot of people would think about their comments/actions a couple years down the road and feel ashamed. If that doesn’t happen it’s sad because it means they’re continuing through life and society with the same kind of crap mentality.

Halloween: GW1 vs GW2

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Clobimon.9652

Clobimon.9652

Back on topic…
I think there’s a bit of nostalgia some people will factor into this. I have always enjoyed GW1’s Halloween event, but when this first GW2 event is complete I believe it’s better.

If you were around for all of GW’s Halloween events as I have been you will recall that it was built up a bit each year. It was the first special event for that game as it is for this one and there wasn’t much to it that first year in reality. There were a couple decorated areas, the Mad King finale with hats and collectors trading a few items for regular world drops. There weren’t any quests, costumes or anything else event specific to do. Plus, after playing the game for 7 years and you don’t need items for titles anymore, the ‘free’ special drops pretty much become space fillers. The Mad King finale remained essentially the same each year and a lot of complaining was always heard/read that it was the ‘same ol’ thing.’ This is all it was in 2005: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Halloween_2005

Obviously a lot of people are complaining about the gem & craft items for this event and letting it taint their feelings for it. Not only that, but complaining when only one act of it is in yet. Personally, I think this event is already on it’s way to being more enjoyable than even the newest GW version. Remember also that this is ANet’s first shot at a special event in the new game. As with anybody, they’ll learn things as they go.

When does the Halloween event start?

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Clobimon.9652

I’ve said this before… How hard is it for anyone to remember the time difference between where you are and ANet? I’m two hours ahead of them. I’ve known that from the very first time I logged into Guild Wars over seven years ago. It shouldn’t take more than ONE TIME of looking it up (if you have to even do that) to remember forever. If you’re going to be playing the game then make a point to know it. Even if ANet does list GMT or whatever as well it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to remember one little thing such as this. I swear humans are devolving more rapidly than anyone believes.

The BWE’s started around 10:30 am ANet time and the stress tests were all afternoons of work days in US/Americas (great times for much of EU). I’m going to go ahead and say that they’ll have different starting times for different events/things as we move along. Starting times for different things started at multiple times in GW ranging between noon and midnight PST. They don’t always cater to US timezones. The “Wintersday” event could very well start at noon for ANet, for instance, at which time EU will have “the advantage.” Everyone always has to pull the ‘fair card.’ :/

Without any experience with it, from an initial look it certainly seems like it.

I had a dream last night that had nothing to do with GW2 or any game. I was starting my first day in a giant office complex of some kind. At first I was just walking around the building to become familiar. After a bit though I suddenly had a paper map of the building that had poi’s and waypoints marked on it and I started going to the spots and hearing the unlocked sound. At one there were animals with red text over their heads – I just ran through them. The final one looked like a huge military control room filled with uniformed people. I tried to do the run in, ‘ding’ the poi and run out thing, but some woman general started yelling at me and I woke up.
