Thanks for the replies I know that p/p doesn’t do as much damage as rifle, grenades, flamethrower, but I really like p/p & sometimes p/s…it just fits me. I will check my gear, I know I already have a lot of toughness in it since one of her traits has a percentage of something based on her toughness (sorry, too early in morning to remember & haven’t had enough coffee yet). But will definitely check my percentages and see if it needs raised up more.

Like I said, I’m not much for running zergs with her, she does bosses sometimes, otherwise I just mess around on her. She’s a challenge at times doing map completion, but to me, that’s alright, I’ve got time

Ok, searched through pages on Eng section and couldn’t find what I’m looking for so going to make a thread & ask….Feel free to move it if there’s already one there.

With all the changes that has been made, what is the best type of gear to get…i.e. Rampager, Knight, etc. Please don’t say Celestial because while I’m 80, am not to that point yet

Oh, am basically p/p – altho sometimes run p/s – with turrets (I solo on my Engi, rarely do zerg runs -that what my Ranger & Necro for) I know that limits me, but to be honest, I can’t do all the jumping around that some of the builds require, I have arthritis in my hands and some days, I do good to do simple jump puzzles

Anyways, please no bashing, I have fun on my Engi, solo’d her all the way up, have grouped during Boss events and had no complaints about my turrets.

I actually have no clue on the build I use to have. I know I use to run with minions all the time and tear up stuff like nobody’s business, but I have no clue how I use to be traited and such, am generally looking for a direction to work towards.

I know that isn’t much help, like I said, I’ve been gone for quite awhile…which has caused me to miss a bunch of things

I have been away from the game for a long time and am trying to come back and found out that not only did I have 14 trait points available, the whole trait thing looks completely different

Can anyone give me any advice here on how to trait? I am level 80 Asura, I generally solo as a rule. So any and all advice and suggestions would be welcome…

I’d pay for this as well, there’s one of mine that I really would like to change her name on but because of her crafting and such, I can’t really consider re-rolling her.

I know there is a bit of a glitch in the mail system. While you are suppose to be allowed a maximum of 10 mails from non-NPC’s, occasionally it will glitch. My suggestion is if you don’t think it was mailed to the wrong person, delete ALL mail in your mailbox. This was ANet’s suggestion to me when I had filed a ticket because I had not recieved something purchased and I only had 3/10 mails. They are working on it, but until then, it’s recommended to keep your mailbox empty. I deleted one mail and poof, not only did what I was waiting on arrive, but also a mail from another person

Not saying that deleting all mail in your mailbox will work, but it did for me and I only had 3/10.

Forgive me if this has already been posted, I did a search but nothing come up.

I don’t /dance very often and it’s even more rare for me to /dance * with a group. But anyways, me & a couple of my guildmates decided to bide our time dancing while chatting as we were waiting for one of the dragons to spawn.

The male & female dances are sync’d (and the same) except for one minor turn, that the female doesn’t turn. Then when the males turn again, she turns with them and they are all back in sync again. It was really annoying and broke the mood (not the word I am looking for but it’s late & I’m tired…lol)

Is this intended? or is this a flaw?

lol, thanks, but they are easier than an Elementalist. Not to mention, they don’t die nearly as often. At least, my Elem dies way more often than my Eng.

Right now (I just hit 50 last night) I have traited: Firearms 20, Inventions 10, Alchemy 10.

Anyone have any advice based on my playstyle if I’m headed in the right direction? Or what I should be heading for?

Am looking for advice on how I should trait and what armor I should be looking towards using.

My Eng is currently 46. I love playing her. I will admit, she’s not the best, nor am I…lol…but I love playing her anyways.

My playstyle: I run with pistol/shield and am usually solo unless doing an event. I generally run with med kit, turrets (rifle, thumper, rocket) and supply crate. I am still trying to figure out how to effectively use the med kit and will admit to being tempted to switch back to the healing turret but haven’t yet.

My limitations: At times I have limited movement in my hands and occasionally it makes it not so much as hard to kite but a bit painful. Usually on these days I pick a different char to play (one that doesn’t require a lot of hand/finger movement) or just hang around one of the towns.

I was wondering for this set up (I know it probably isn’t the best, but it’s fun for me) what would be the best traits to use as well as gear to be the most effective with it.

Does that make sense? If not, blame it on lack of coffee this early in my morning

After numerous attempts, yes, I gave up on it and decided maybe I’d try again next time. I don’t think I made it halfway up.

Not blaming ANet or the puzzle designer, in the spirit of the Mad King, it should be hard. But with my hands being like they are and my keyboard wearing it, it was beyond my abilities. It always takes me longer to do jumping puzzles than everyone else anyways…lol

I have 4 complete, one being the Master Carver, and it showing me as only having 3 under the event completion so Haupt may be right in that the carving doesn’t count. I really hope not but it’s looking that way

nmoral I wanted to get rid of mine as well but since I can’t throw them in the Forge, I guess I’ll use them in the Brawl instead of using cauldrons & such. One way to get rid of them. Right now I have an alt that is sitting with her entire beginning backpack full of those potions…lol

lol, yeah was going to get rid of mine too only to find out the same thing, they aren’t usable in the Mystic Forge

Was hoping some of the other tonics would be usable in the Forge as well, but thats no big deal, I’ll just use some of them up in the Brawl…lol

I am still getting DC every time I turn around. Didn’t have this problem before patch and it’s really starting to get frustrating (went beyond the annoying level with how long its been now).

Am running Win7 64bit with all the latest updates and as a few others have said, when the DC happens, the forums are generally unavailable as well.

I’m not willing to turn off my authenticator (shouldn’t have to), that would leave my account semi vulnerable. Would rather deal with the DC’s or not play until its fixed

I play my Ranger (80) and leveling my Elem (just hit 50 yesterday) which is why I referred to them in my post. Today however, I am taking a break from both and playing with my Engineer.

I’m 48 and love it! My husband is 53, also plays and loves it as well.

Anyways, I appreciate both you and Snow Aeth explaining why these two professions would be good with DE’s. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I know of the two that I have run DE’s with, a Ranger & an Elementalist, my Elem seems to do better because of her staff AOE’s.

I see people walking quite often, not just on escort’s. In fact, Saturday night, there was about 8-12 people just walking. I went over to them and asked what they were doing & was told they were patrolling. This was in Diessa (sp). So I joined them. Walked around for awhile, just talking and killing anything in the way.

I had hoped this would have generated more conversation, but guess not…

I was bored this afternoon & my shoulder was bothering me too much to play so spent time browsing all the different sub-forums. I seen a lot of similarities in the ‘this class is the kitten’ or ‘this class is great for this but not for that’ type threads, so I wanted to put this out to all of you….

Q. In your opinion, what do you feel is the best profession to run DE Chains with (ex: Ones that start at point A and include several stages and end at Point D)….you may or may not be able to group.

I would really like to keep this constructive, hopefully everyone will respect others opinions and keep the flames to the those other posts in the sub-forums. I thought perhaps this would be a good thread for those that are fairly new to the game, if that makes sense….

I randomly play, no set times, just whenever the mood strikes. I love to visit with others though, whether it be in /map, /say, /g or whatever.

I’m on Tarnished Coast and currently helping a couple of nice people get their guild going. I wasn’t in one, they were friendly and needed help so wah-lah.

I’m not sure where I read it at, somewhere here I know, but unless I’m remembering incorrectly, the restriction is the amount of gold that account (possibly char) has actually earned.

The example I’m remembering is Acct A sent something like 5 gold to Acct B, but Acct B has only earned 2 gold so therefore they can only send 2 gold back (since that is their current limit).

Or something like that. I’m sure there are others that are more familiar with this & can help better, I was just looking through the forums for something & seen nobody had answered your question :/

I am still very interested in the game and I’ve been playing since BWE. There are still classes for me to level, races for me to play, area’s for me to explore, puzzles, achievements, etc.

I’m sorry there are some that feel the way they do and are leaving, but me personally? I think I’m gonna be around for a long time

Am really glad for the free server transfers (thank you ANet). Started on one during headstart, can’t remember the name, the people weren’t bad, just not real helpful. Me & my husband moved to Ehmbry Bay (sp). I lasted all of two days. Got tired of people training mobs over me, running over my corpse and not bothering to rez as they continued on their merry way.

Moved to Tarnished Coast because I have had experience in the past with RP servers and have always had good experiences. Didn’t let me down The people are for the most part great, they are friendly, helpful, and if you happen to die, not often you have to waypoint. I don’t WvW or PvP, but they seem to do good in it. I know there’s usually a lot of people around for events, especially the bigger ones.

Have you tried taking the armor off that you are wearing (put it in your inventory), then transmuting? The armor I transmuted was the armor I had equipped, not new armor (it’s my lvl 80 armor that I’ve been wearing for awhile, just needed a new look).

Edit:

What I did was ported to HoM, got the skins, unequipped all my armor, then double clicked the skin and put the correct piece in the transmute window when it came up, transmuted it, then re-equipped the piece.

Thats odd Dutch, I transmute with HoM things last night, both armor and weapon and it worked fine for me

Fav non-playable: Hmmm, probably Kodan, Skritt, Quaggan

Hate any form of Risen, some more than others, but hate them all >.<

I have transmuted since patch and everyone’s responses are pretty much spot on. Just take the armor/weapon off, transmute it, then re-equip it. It works just fine

I feel your pain, and although I don’t have any advice, I look forward to seeing what others have to say in order to survive these zones.

I’m a lvl 80 Ranger and constantly get zerg’d by Risen, even when carefully trying to pull one. They have an unbelievable aggro range, their speed is crazy fast and getting jerked back and forth between two of them makes for a dead Ranger quick

It’s made it to where I have started playing an alt because I’ve finished Exploring on all the other zones but those and dying repeatedly within a few moments makes it not very fun. I don’t mind dying, I’m a Ranger, I die and have learned to die with grace (most of the time) but these zones are unreal…

I know what you mean Paulus, I’ve had way too much fun unlocking things and trying to figure it out. Sure I’ve died a few times cough ok, so maybe more than a few, but thats ok, getting better at the whole not dying thing too.

The attunement swapping is taking some getting use to, and I am getting better about switching and laying down some CC and Heals (for awhile I was forgetting that was me that could do that since I had gotten so use to playing a Ranger).

Will be interesting to see what the future levels bring

specifically the elementalist roundtable section, which you can find a timestamp of in the description.

The big things I pulled from it that helped me go from feeling like leveling was a chore and the class was weak, to, wow this class is really fun and I don’t feel weak at all, I feel really STRONG and able to solo many monsters that I wouldn’t have dreamed of before with the class was mainly, attunement swapping.

first off, I use the staff, scepter feels like total garbage to me and I will not use it, and dagger/dagger is fun and all but I feel really strong with the staff.

The thing with attunement swapping for me that made all the difference in the world was, I stopped just using my skills and auto attacking and only switching if i wanted something specific for whatever reason. I changed that to, i will cast off my fire stuff, swap to earth, cast off my earth stuff, and go back and forth between the two. Often I will swap to air as well throw down a stun, if im hurt swap to water drop a geyser and an ice spike, swap right back into fire and start launching those abilities, then back to earth etc.

Longer fights it makes a huge difference and makes everything so much better. it feels like a really strong class. For really short fights i can often times just sit in fire and after i cast everything… it’s dead. but usually its a combo from fire to earth.

That’s what made the difference for me.

So far I have been using dual dagger, but still filling out all her weapon skills so that may change.

As for them being ‘broke’ thats alright. In one of the MMO’s I played umpteen years ago, I was one of 3 people on the server I played, that insisted on continueing to play Void Eldritch even though their main bolts were broke, making it even harder to play & level. But they were still fun none the less. So if they have issues, thats alright, I’ll learn to deal with them and find a way to work around it that makes them playable. Just another challenge and challenge is good

There is only one TP and it is global.

World Transfers are now limited to one every 24hrs. This was changed a couple days ago. The one every 24hrs is still free though

Thank you for the suggestions so far. I don’t really want or expect a easy class, if I did, I would have made a Warrior – which I don’t have. I tend to gravitate towards the harder to play classes, in this case my Ranger is an exception. The reason for that is every MMO I have played, I always have a Ranger/Archer/Hunter type. I just have a special fondness for them and in some games they are easy, some they are hard.

That being said, I kinda like what Shockwave said about utilizing all elements and swapping back and forth. I have started levelling up her weapon skills beginning with dual daggers (I think I have the last element left on that one) then will try the next one.

As I said from the onset, I’m just starting on her, only lvl 8 so have a lot to learn, hence why I’m here asking for advice I’m not looking for the “Easy Mode”, I’m looking for those little tips & tricks that people have learned on the way that works for them. They may or may not work for me & my playstyle, but won’t know until I’ve tried, true?

Ok, I’ve hit 80 with my Ranger and while she still had tons of stuff to do and I love playing her, I am going to be leveling an Elementalist when taking a break or when I just want to get away for a bit. So I’m asking for some constructive advice from experienced Elementalists that really like this class, I don’t want “don’t play it, they suck” type advice please.

My playstyle is generally solo PvE (unless of course at a DE or run across someone killing the same mobs as me). I don’t WvW or sPvP, ever. Or at least I don’t see it in my near future, just not really my cup of tea so to speak.

~What stats are important to an Elem?

~Is Air a viable element? I ask because even though she is only 8 right now, I have been having a lot of fun with it. If it is viable, what should I trait and equip?

~If Air isn’t a viable element, then what would be for a solo player? Recommendations please

~I know they are somewhat fragile, most casters in every game I’ve played are, so I’m prepared for that and to be downed or die probably frequently. I’m ok with that.

Thank you for this post, I have been trained multiple times in this game, died from it a couple times on an alt that couldn’t take all the mobs, and had wished I could have gotten their name as they ran by so I could thank them (yes, sarcasm).

I can only hope, and hope hard, that some kind person (that is of the same variety as them) returns the favor to them in double by training mobs on them.

Its not fun people when you are on the recieving end of that train and on a character that can’t handle that many mobs at a time, so please show some courtesy, please?

If you want to race through a zone without fighting, great, but the aggro you pick up on the way, don’t run over someone with it, run around them so you don’t get others killed in the process.

I would have to agree with the other posters on this is your game, you play it the way it makes you happy (as long as its within ANet guidelines of course). I even heard someone the other day say they had all crafting professions on their one character and I thought more power to them (no sarcasm, intended as a compliment) because thats what I wanted to do but ended up making alts for other crafts. Although one never knows…lol

As long as you are able to afford your crafting and it makes you happy & content in this game, go for it!! This game is all about the journey there, not the final destination of 80

I’ve tried all races, really tried hard…but keep deleting and making Asura’s. Everyone is different and has their own personal preferences, but there is just something about these little ones that are a blast for me to play.

On the falling note, well, I can tell you it is (or at least was) possible to go over the edge of Rata Sum….the landing, well, more a splat. How can a lvl 3 endure 60k+ damage? They can’t and the screams she made on the way down, well, now if I hop off a fence she screams with the memories. Best fall damage I’ve accomplished so far.

While I agree that bugs and stuff should be their priority, I have to agree that I would like my char at the char screen to reflect what they look like ingame….if I don’t want to see the helm ingame, why would I want it glaring at me on the char select screen?

No, not a game breaker, not even close, just a minor annoyance, but it wouldn’t take much for it to be implemented. I know it is in other games that have the option of hiding/showing armor pieces and even costume armor. What your char looks like ingame is what they look like on the char select screen.

But that being said, it’s something that can wait until they get the game stabilized Then possibly think on it….hopefully….lol

I love all my Asura’s, so much so that I am down to 2 non-Asura’s and valiantly trying to refrain from re-making them in to Asura. That being said, I have recently created an Engineer and love her so far and after reading your post, I would definately have to agree that for Asura Engineer’s, a mini-golem would be a perfect item for their class. It technically wouldn’t even have to do anything (although that would be nice) but it would give immersion a whole new level for those of us that like to immerse ourselves into our characters.

Maybe you should put this suggestion in the ‘Suggestion’ forum, better chance of someone seeing it that could give it some thought or let us know why it would or would not be feasible.

What I’ve done is the following:

Avoid Waypoints unless absolutely have to. Run from point A to point B, even if point B is in another zone.

Hit as many events as possible between destinations.

Don’t skill up crafting if it’s going to cost coin until you have ample coin.

Don’t upgrade every level, I’ve usually waited around 10 lvls between upgrades and then took the cheapest, I don’t have to have the rarest of rare if I can still get the job done. Time enough for that later

Salvage anything white, check the TP to see if blue & above has a value, if not, sell, sell, sell (vendor)….

I don’t have fist full’s of gold, but am not hurting for it either. I’m sure others have more suggestions as well, this is just from my experience

Jeffrey, from what I have read and what happened to me personally, it seems if Tonn blows up the 3rd tower before you have all the Risen that are currently present dead, then it bugs out with ‘Clear the Beach’, which is triggered when the 3rd tower goes down and as a result spawns the last 3 mobs.

I know I wasn’t aware of the bug on my first time threw and got close to the tower with Tonn following me so I could pull the remaining Risen. He proceeded to blow it up while I was fighting, spawning the final 3 and then I guess he decided he was done and just stood there. I did submit a Bug report with screenshot included when it happened showing the quest info and such.

My personal story is an Asura with the Order of Whispers.
