Yes, that NPC’s been there since the BWEs. If you wait long enough, that shipment after arrives where she complains and the caravan head mentions something about being stalled but the shipment’s still safe.

I always found the fact people call Logan a coward funny. Generally a coward wont run from one danger and put themselves next deep in another danger on purpose. Logan had a very logical reason for making the choice he did. The reason I suspect alot of people have trouble empathising with it is frankly we didnt know Jennah well enough for people to value her.

.

He ran from the greatest danger on Tyria to a bunch of Ogres where there was the Serpah and a Charr army. Ebonhawke was far les dangerous than facing an Elder Dragon himself.

WP makes a lot of mistakes, so him having a mis-speak isn’t unlikely. But as Techstriker and Killul said, the Black Citadel was built over Rin, the second capital of Ascalon (after Drascir fell, Rin became the capital until its fall). You can even find an area in the Black Citadel to the south dubbed “Ruins of Rin” – the ruin placement is actually pretty accurate to their placement in GW1.

Jumping Puzzles as Norn and Charr

Can’t just switch camera systems. The system is the way it is in order to accommodate a number of systems including an occlusion system that makes things on the other side of walls not render, and messing with the camera collision can push it through walls then you end up with half the world disappearing at random times. This is just one of the important systems that need the camera to behave a certain way. In the big picture, having the world drop away is higher on the priority list than making all the jumping challenges feel good. It would have been nice to have had a final camera when most of the JPs were being built, but the occlusion system didn’t get in until near the end of production, so we couldn’t have foreseen the crazy camera demands it would have. We can make little tweaks to the existing JPs, but that’s got it’s own can of worms associated with it, like introducing new bugs. As to a First Person Cam, I would LOVE it. But that’s ANOTHER big can of worms, as we would have to create a new system for how we reconcile the direction of the camera to the orientation of the player’s face as they do all sorts of crazy maneuvers like back-flips, cartwheels, 720 spins, etc. Not to mention dealing with how to render the weapons and attacks which were not created with that viewpoint in mind.

First person view would make the jp much better and would be good for rpers so I think it would be worth the effort.

Just wanted to give a quick update on this topic. We’ve completed verifying every update from the november release, and there were zero changes to anything what so ever that would have negatively affected loot in any way/shape/form. We can officially confirm this as an X-files level conspiracy at this point.

We’re in the midst of evaluating every loot table in the game and running massive random roll evaluations table by table, as well as evaluating every system game wide that causes a player to qualify for items to determine if any issues exist in those systems from launch.

Will update again when we have another round of concrete information.

Thanks so much for not insulting us and not accusing us of being paranoid. You ask us to provide information and we prove it you and then you come back and insult us. Do you honestly expect people to still play this game when the next mmo comes out?

Anyone else ashamed of the humans?

in Lore

Posted by: Killul.9685

Killul.9685

Except the humans are one of the youngest races in Tyria. The other races of the world all had their set lands and boundaries and then the humans came along and messed everything up. The Charr used to be animalistic heathens and only started to advance their society and technology when they had to fight the humans to reclaim their homeland.

Well, the only thing the humans ‘messed up’ was the charr. The other races never noticed humanity until recently.

But we have the sylvari, who are obviously the youngest race in a literal sense; the asura, who had to restart their society after Primordus awoke; the norn, who had to do the same when Jormag drove them south out of their former lands; and the charr who have a new society based in former human land.

Only the Krytan humans occupy the same territory they had a thousand years ago.

Well if a thousands year ago they have Centaurs able to attack the captail city and conteseting all territory in Kryta then yeah they have the same territory.

If GW2 fails theres really nothing else. World of Warcraft, Star Wars the Old Republic, Tera and The Secret World are all the same crap. GW2 was the only thing that stood out to be different. It got 3 million people because it was different.

Screwing this up would be like screwing up mash potatoes. They can’t make GW2 fail because if they do they’re idiots.

The Elder Scrolls Online, Age of Wushu (Wulin) if you’re in EU, Blade and Soul, Ragnarok Online 2 probably a lot more, and all of them are going to come out in 2013, currently in either closed or open beta except Scrolls. Hopefully one of those will succeed, altho I hope to god they fix everything broken and add good content to GW2 before they come out just make it sexy like I know it can be.

Scrolls is just going to be a wow clone. They already confirmed the only thing that will make it different is that it’s Elder Scrolls.

The directon they were heading after launch had a lot of potential to make this a great game. Unforunately it’s completely changed and this game has become very bad now.

I posted this elsewhere, but just quickly wanted to update where we stand on this issue:

We’re continuing to look into this and have a team of folks sifting through insane amounts of data based on all of your reports. This is an incredibly time intensive and unfortunately mostly manual process while we work on building tools to streamline this in more automated ways so it’s going to take a while.

We’ll update once we have more tangible information to share.

Answer me one thing why should we believe you. You claimed that there was no issue and then two months later you say there is an issue but you have no made any progress in two months. You clearly have the abilitly to modify droprates as you nerfed them in the first place. This is nothing more than a delaying tactic until the new content whihc you hope will shut us up.

Killul.9685

There will be new content. New rewards and new events in the form of guild missions. New WvW abilities and rewards.

Supplementing the current game with a number of features will count as an expansion’s -worth- of content if there are going to be plenty. With the culling fix, guesting, achievement rewards, wvw progression, dungeon retuning, Orr retuning, guild events, further guild progression, custom arenas, leaderboards, that seems to be the case.

I’d rather have a reason to play the current game than forget it all in favor of new zones/dungeons.

I rather wait and see if they actually deliver on their promises. Lost Shores was hyped up and it was terribly laggy and grindy. It’s good in idea we should wait till thery release the new content to judge it.

To the post above me it’s Jormag champion we fight not the Elder Dragon himself.

Killul.9685

“particularly when gained from the hunt or in a battle”

The norn are a race of nine-foot tall Nordic-like warriors

It’s not the only way but it is the primary way. Which means they have a greater chance of going a violent route than the sylvari. Which is what I said. They are a race of warriors. Not a peaceful race with some warriors and plenty of snowflake counters.

Yes, the majority of Norn likely hunt and fight. No, that does not make them all violent warriors. The wiki entry is a generalization – not all Norn are warriors just like not all Norn are exactly 9 ft tall.

We see plenty of what this means in the game. You even cite yourself that the Norn consider glory to be particularly gained through hunting – going after dangerous animals and beasts. Somehow you consider this to be violent and comparable with declaring war, which I disagree with. The idea that a hunter who takes down a man-eating wurm is comparable to a conquering army is somewhat absurd.

As for warriors, this is somewhat of a misnomer since the Norn obviously do not declare war. We know that they often hire out as mercenaries, bodyguards, and host brawls and challenges – we even see Norn who spawn events by saying, “I’m here, someone fight me!”. This doesn’t strike me as very violent either (though obviously it’s more violent than the Norn who counts snowflakes) – this would be the equivalent to boxing or karate. Again, not even on the same level as actual warfare.

This has been said a dozen times the Norn aren’t organised enough to have actual warfare, yet again I say they attack races on sight which is the closest thing they have to actual warfare. That is their verison of warfare. Challenging people to a fight because they don’t have something to fight is very violent. They frequently fight their allies because they don’t need violence until they can kill something. There is a Norn Priory Scholar in Orr who shouts “I need to fight someone!” despite the numerous Risen around her. Demanding someone to fight you is violent. Fighting people frequently is in no way peaceful. Just because they considered it to be nothing does not make it peaceful. Just because their a race where violence is common doesn’t make them peaceful.

I have to agree with the testing of weapons. I’ve been in several scenes with different characters that seemed to be the brunt of some obnoxious experiement that we would have to clean up. Priory “intelligence”, and Asuran “genius” especially were typically unpleasant bedfellows.

It’s not our cause it is the Pact’s cause. Everyone else in the Pact is focused on killing Zhaitan, Trahearne is the only one that pritoises cleansing Orr over killing Zhaitan.

Killul.9685

I could see dev favoritism towards Sylvari given all the interviews, blogs, articles, etc. about them pre-release. (I recall a lot more pre-release content about Sylvaris than humans or asuras, for example.)

However, I think it’s more likely that the reason Sylvaris are so prominent in the story is that Zaithan is “their” Elder Dragon. There are risen in their starting zone and they’ve been dealing with them since level 1. They also have the unique property of being immune to Zaithan’s corruption. The sylvari story is tightly linked to Zaithan and its risen army.

So yeah it kind of make sense that Sylvaris are always in the spotlight in the campaign against Zaithan. All races have an elder dragon though, so if, for example, the first expansion is a campaign to hunt Jormag, it’s likely going to be all about norns.

I guess if you really don’t like Sylvaris, you can rejoice since it would mean that they get their time when the game is least polished.

That makes sense but this is the part of the story that deals with the foundationof the Pact shows that the Sylvari are founding leaders of the Pact. They feature way too heavily when this is supposed to be the beginning of the Pact.

It is sad and bias but that is how it is. They dont have a direction with the game and they dont know what to do. That is obvious. And although they (threads)get shut down a lot of the ascend gear people are still flaming away on the fan forums and here as well. So dont worry this will continue to haunt them as SWG did/does to TOR.

Each day they lose more and more players because of inability to act and a productive and concise manner. They never mean what they say and anything they say is always “taken out of context” or misinterpreted. The people I know simply dont believe anything they say at all.
It is really sad to see a once great developer go right down the drain so fast with bad decisions. This has been a bad year 2 top houses are now mud Anet and Bioware.

I truly hope ncsoft or nexon come in and tutor/replace those who are making the decisions with someone who has a vision and will develop that vision with the community and stay on target and communicate with the players. That is the only way I see this game making it anywhere because it is right on track with Tor.

Ascended gear was added because people asked for it. Before the lost shores update the forums were filled with nothing but “I’m at endgame with full exotics which were too easy to get, and now I’m bored, I have nothing to go for but a legendary.” and anet responded.

That was people was a miniority of players and those people wanted this game to be a copy of wow and they have either given up on the game or still claim it’s dead.

Is there ascended gear in sPVP? I thought it was PvE/WvW only.

Personally, I don’t feel like I “need” to get ascended – only if I want to do a lot of fractals (which I don’t). For Pve, exotics are still good enough and no one notices a 1% increase in stats in the WvW zergs.

Sorry I mean it is not in Spvp but I think it is 14% difference which is quite a lot and can make a huge difference for smaller battles or when zergs have near even numbers.

How does Arah Exploration make sense?

in Lore

Killul.9685

WoW didn’t start doing the kill-the-unique-boss-with-a-story gimmick until relatively recently. Before that they had their endgame bosses more or less immortal. Players could kinda slay them, but only temporarily.

Also there is no need to alter the entire game. Simply do not allow players to really end the final boss. Have the players subdue the boss, or drive the boss back or have the boss reform itself or what have you. Then that boss comes back after a while, ready for another round.

Players wouldn’t hate that, on the contrary, if it is done well. One thing that players love more than an amazing raid is an amazing raid they can do more than once. There are also a host of programming and design tricks you can employ to shake things up a bit so that no two final raids are quite the same.

That way your open world is consistent, and your players are happy. Win-win. Or you can do this “story-is-king” and try to force definitive endings and chapters onto a medium which doesn’t really support that kind of thing by its very nature.

There is no stopping you from doing a raid over and over again but there no need to add that to the story and make everything you do competely worthless. “Yes we stopped the enemies plan but they be back tomorrow.” Plus we be fighting the same enemy over and over instead of acutally seeing some new ones.
