I think you should just throw in some gems for the vets that match the gem cost of a character slot. After the announcement that we were not getting a slot with the standard; I went and used gems to get an additional slot and I am sure many others have as well. That being said some that are buying the deluxe or more already get a character slot and probably will not need another and if they do then the gem idea would fit better as it leaves the decision up to them.

I play a charr guardian and I always play incognito on my private account. I enjoy exploration and WvW. I play on NA servers because that is where my (non-ArenaNet) guilds are located and playing on NA servers is better suited to my time zone and physical location.

I have a different account I use for work, and that one is almost always tagged up with the ArenaNet guild name on it. That work account uses a low-level charr character, not my aforementioned main, which is also pictured below.

The devs have stated the real world time is equal to game time. Last I checked you can’t build a whole city in a year.

That would be awful as a real city could take years to rebuild, depending on the amount of damage and their resources. That could mean that LA would not be completely rebuilt until several real life years have gone by.

It would be more reasonable to have adjustable time, depending on the story line. After all, the pack fleet was destroyed in the maguuma and now the event is frozen in time while months pass. When we get there, it will restart. The disaster will have just happened.

So, LA could be fixed rapidly, if the story called for it,

It is a hub city though. All the races will help rebuild it. I honestly think it needs to get attacked again. This time by ravenous flesh eating quaggans.

It sounds like we’re still a ways before release … Hopefully there will be balance in the expansion, as good as can be.

We are still waiting on balance for the current classes. It will be a mess for a bit before it balances out with Necromancers eating poo in PvE but stomping PvP. They could release the expansion this fall for all we know.

I see these questions all over the place. based off of how most MMO expansions go it could be 40 dollars or more but they have not told us. As a consumer kitten though I can say this; the price will not matter because we will pay whatever it costs to play the expansion. No matter how many people say they hate the direction it is going in that they will not buy it; we will buy it.

I completed exploration on 8 characters in year one. Resetting it would screw me over for hundreds of hours of game play. Stop trying to get changes implemented that screw over the people that put a ton of time into the game. This does not provide a benefit for people that do not have completion; it simply screws a chunk of people over.

I did. I was immediately asked to change to a different 80 like an ele or war. I said “I am good thanks.” I was dropped, they posted in LFG, they got their warrior, I logged off.

If you create a dungeon that kills the current meta, then the meta changes to adapt and optimize runs in the new dungeon, and that new meta develops the same optimization-bent that has always been there. Your suggestion changes nothing.

Then there needs to be a balance that does not limit 3 or 4 professions while making the rest of them godlike. There is still a problem with being barred from a group for wanting to play a class you enjoy.

From the classes I play…

Warriors make use of greatswords, axes, warhorns, swords, maces and longbows (this is referring to at a speed clear level)

Guardians make use of greatswords, swords, hammers, foci and scepters

Mesmers make use of swords, pistols and foci

Thieves make use of daggers, pistols, swords and shortbows.

Sounds like a lot of weapons are usable to me.

Lets add in engineer and necro weapon choices.

Most people seem to want an Ele, War, or Guard. I have seen multiple LFG’s up looking for very specific classes. The time I get to play (after work and hanging out with my daughter) I am running into more of these than normal PUGs

1. go on to lfg
2. go to dungeon of choice
3. click advertise your party
4. type in “looking for more path [number] anyone welcome”
5. group fills in like 2 minutes
6. ???
7. Profit

I did not say blanks out entire builds.

Except it does. Boon conversion shuts off trait options, it prevents you using utilities, it makes certain weapons completely unviable.

Adapting to a situation=Skill. Copy and Paste dominating EVERY aspect of the game is not.

build #1 is bad so let’s copy paste build #2 for this situation
lets go back to build #1 after this is done

How does this fix anything?

Make some suggestions to fix the problem then. If ANet simply fixes Condition Damage to work well and brings in new weapon choices to give a little more diversity maybe we would not run into this crap. ANet nerfed almost everything fun in GW1 and here I am playing a game where people throw tantrums when you just want to play for fun.

I don’t get it. For the first situation, you’d either be completely useless or have to run a half condition, half physical damage build (also useless). Also, why no boons in a room? Explain why that would make sense.

Furthermore, it isn’t turning into “Lfg insert class and build here” and you aren’t restricted to three of your chars either. If you want to play whatever class, do it. I play my necro often, even in pugs and except for some rare cases, no one ever complained.

I can only say it again, open your own groups. If you only see groups which search for specific classes on lfg, that’s the logical thing to do. Your groups will fill up, trust me.

Funny thing is I did just that and Got kicked from my own group so they could pick up a warrior since I wanted to run my Necro. There the back story is. After that I gave up. I just need to wait for this terrible balance cycle to overcharge buff the Necro and bomb some other class into the crapper.

I’ve been hoping for something like this for a while to be honest. I’ve wanted a HM/Gambit system for dungeons or some elite dungeons with exactly what the OP describes.

If anything to add some variety to how we do things. The irony is that the meta crowd will experiment and find new roles for new classes to deal with debuffs while the PHIW will just shift to complaining about whatever the meta for X debuff will be.

Even if it is 2 Engis, 1 Necro, and a Ranger….

It really is a cool concept though. If Anet looks at some of their GW1 dungeons, I think they will find a great deal of inspiration for this game. There was some really great stuff there.

Yes I am a little POed at the meta crap and have something against anyone who wants to leech fun out of a game for speed clears but my main point is Elite Dungeons that provide a challenge and does not allow stacking or have an appalling amount of glitches would make me happy. I want something that is both hard to get through and rewards us for it. Fractals are not fun. They are so repetitive and easy that I no longer go there. I miss vanquishing. Maybe HM Dungeons with Vanquishing bonuses for killing everything in the area. That would be awesome

Yea cause like harder dungeons/fractals will absolutely murder meta groups while phiw groups will manage just fine. Because reasons I guess.

That’s why PHIWs are so highly sought after in the existing “hard” PvE content like Arah p4. Bearbow at Simins is OP.

For some reason PHIW community always assumes the meta crowd will be hit hardest by any change. It’s never been the case.

True, since meta means “play the best setup available”, we just adapt. The PHIWs who only want to play one build are the ones who get shafted.

OP might have had an interesting post if he hadn’t gone all QQ at the end there. Doesn’t even make sense, how would a debuff affect meta any differently than PHIW?

Please explain OP. I’d love to hear the thought process that went into this amazing concept.

Because the current meta is to stack and buff and max dps everything. If there was a room that converted boons to conditions or a room that made all buffs unable to be placed half of the copy paste builds would not work. Throw in a room where it changes between physical damage doing nothing and condition damage doing nothing so you have to adapt to the encounter itself instead of mindlessly mashing the same keys over and over. I want skill to be necessary. I want to play whatever class I want to play at that time using the strengths of that class to my advantage vs only being stuck to 3 of my toons. I have 8 level 80’s. The problem is not that I can’t do the content the way THEY want. The problem is this game is turning into “LFG insert class and build here

I miss the feel The Deep and Urgoz Warren had in GW1. I was just thinking how neat it would be to have a dungeon that puts a constant debuff on you until you down the boss of the section. I would be especially excited to see a dungeon like this that specifically murders the META groups that just copy and paste everything they see online to farm this game of any fun for casual player or players that don’t want to be limited to 3 classes just to shave off 2 minutes a run.

This doesn’t sound like someone extremely bitter about people who they don’t even play with and wants to offer a terrible suggestion to punish them for no logical reason.

Not at all.

I am a player that likes a little punishment with my dungeon runs. They made the dungeons in this game so mind numbingly easy that the only way for people to apparently make it fun for themselves is to exclude other to save a measly 2-5 minutes a run. Everyone can do CoF in their sleep. AC is the same way. Fractals has even made it to that point where all you have to do is stack and mash on most of it (not to be mistaken for all of it). Not one person can deny this.

Yeah, build diversity is a continuing issue with GW2, and it came up a lot in the CDI on horizontal progression. I believe ANet shares this concern, and my expectation is that we will see more content focused on build diversity going forward.

The April 2014 Feature Pack has several features that are primarily build diversity features:

1. Instant Trait Refunds will make it easier to play around and experiment with new builds at any time, any where.

2. Sigil/Rune changes are intended to open up more options for builds and improve overall build viability.

3. New Grandmaster Traits will open up a lot of new possibilities as well. I don’t know if you’ve looked at what’s coming there, but many of those new Grandmaster Traits are really cool.

DPS is still king, though, and always will be. Too much damage mitigation leads to marathon fights where neither opponent is able to defeat the other. Damage HAS to be greater than defense for the game to remain playable.

Totally agree with Damage being a must. There still needs to be a need for a control and support role being used. They would need to buff those instead of nerfing damage. I am ok with the 10% drop on my dps with the upcoming patch but if they kill it all together and bring it down to the level the other roles are currently residing, I would need to go away for a while until it was balanced.

Its insane how few builds some classes have like elementalists have…

Guardians (my main) i just don’t even know what to do with, (wvw mostly, i dont like that pvp makes me earn my armor looks over and they could have ballenced pvp armor stats around pve armor stats (yes and up-graded the ones that werent max level) (and keep some skills ballenced for pvp/pve)

They are hopefully going to have this fixed on the 15th of April. I am waiting for this to happen as well. =)

Exactly! I am all for supporting GW2 with real money in the gem store for some items! I love this game and I would consider myself a casual. I can’t always log on but when I do I get the available minis and finishers lately. And before anyone does the “casuals gtfo” thing, I have 11k AP so it isn’t like I don’t play. I have no problem people getting the stuff we did in the beginning when they just start.

I would just like to suggest brining back the minis that were temporary from the events like year 1 Halloween and living story. I just had a baby and will probably miss some of the minis and I buy my wife and I every mini that comes out on the gem store as we love this part of the game. Don’t get me wrong, I have selfish reasons for asking for them to come back, but I DO NOT expect special treatment. I just think that with the upcoming release is China, Russia, etc. It could also be a nice way to include them in some of the temporary content and give new players the chance to get them as well while benefiting those of us that could not log in for those times. I would also like to suggest keeping them in the gem store for 2 weeks or a month and blast it all over facebook and the forums so we know it is coming. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day! =)

P.S. Sorry it is in general discussion. It is not letting me post this in suggestions. If anyone could move it over for me I would be really happy. =)

First thing I thought of =o But we would need a lot more than 2 free slots. Once you can save builds, people will start trying crazy things. It will really open up diversity ^.^

Buy in gem store if you need more than two. Simple as that.

In gw1, I had a minimum of 10 specs for each class, and almost everyone that I knew that played did. Just 2 spots for free would be a huge mistake, and I think anet would already know that. IF a restriction was to be added, it should be much larger, as there will be dozens of builds a person will want to save on their main.

I expect the temple unlock in the gem store would be account wide, so if you really want more than two, you can convert gold to gems and buy a few slots. I expect them to be about 200-400 gems for each unlock.

Why should this feature cost us money? And why are people discussing it’s prices? Such a basic feature was 100% free in GW1 and accessible with the click of a button. You can save dozens maybe hundreds of builds. I don’t see why people jump straight to the payment options before really thinking it through. We’re already being bombarded with gem store items and restrictions (the account-wide bank space is a good example).

GW1 is a totally different game. In a totally different age of gaming.

GW1 was a step in the right direction for gaming. GW2 was a step back. Looks like they caught on as they need incentive to do a patch like this such as most of the player base wanted this to happen. As a GW1 vet I am a little giddy to see GW2 players who have hated on GW1 since this games release get a gw1 mechanic forced on them. So to take a page out of the haters book, “Suck it up. This isn’t the game you thought it would be. Boo hoo.”

I think she was trying to save her own race and screw the rest of them. I think that the dragon will have control over the nightmare court and Scarlet wanted to save her race from being bound to the pale tree or the dragon.

Have you guys even tried this event yet? Cause reading all this sure sounds like you haven’t. Yeah he throws condis back at you. But you do have other weapons you know. Go to the weapon merchant vendor, grab an axe and a staff. Then equip plague signet (patience I will explain why) well of power, and honestly anything else you want ( I have been using well of corruption since it doesn’t automatically apply condis and he has no boons to flip so… but I did use flesh wurm and put him well out of range of the aoe as an escape when I did red one because molten guys spawn and can make things uncomfortable sometimes). Auto with staff (boring yes yes I get it) I even throw mark of blood down occasionally to regen people trying to rez the no-dodgers at his feet. The pitiful bleed it has is barely noticeable. When the colored buff circles come up, swap to axe and axe 2 for a burst. Even as a condi spec it does some damage. When the starts to aoe again swap back to staff and do the dodgy thing, repeat. You can also just sit in staff and keep your scepter on standby until the boss becomes susceptible to condis towards the end phase.

Now, as to why I chose plague signet and well of power:
You’re gonna get condis on you regardless. At least this way you have ways to unload them as well as help others around you who don’t know how to stop using condis keep them off. Between well of power and consume conditions, the only times I ever went down was when I was lazy dodging. Never from condis. Ever. And with those 2 skills, I had a metric ton of boons on me at all times. You know what it’s like for a necro to be loaded with nearly every boon? Of course not because it hardly ever happens. It’s nice. I can dodge all. day. long. (except when I get lazy lol) And since we’re not top dps’ers it doesn’t hurt much to the dps as a whole to be one of the people stopping to rezz downs (not deads…I don’t rez those). And now when you get to the top to the condi only boss all you have to do is swap to your condi weapons real fast - which can be done because there's room to run out of combat up there- and go about your merry way.

Don’t knock till you’ve tried it. I’ve done 4 of these event so far and aside from the thing disconnecting me at the very end the first time then bugging the portals the remaining times, it has worked wonderfully.

That’s a lot of work to do 5% of the damage of a direct damage specced person.

Maybe they could just design events that everyone can play? This isn’t exactly a raid style coordination and difficulty.

Even 5% is better than 0. If you want to just stand around, go buy a dungeon run and don’t weigh others down.

Major knee-jerk reaction to the fight.

There are stages. Melee handles DPS and condi players should be supporting them instead of stacking damage. Phase 2 the condi players stack as many unique conditions as long and as high as they can to make the boss weaker.

Try adapting to the fight instead of jump-the-gun raging because all builds cant face-roll win the encounter the exact same way.

I remember all of the QQ from zerker players that Wardens 3 in Marionette couldn’t just be face tanked and 4 required moving around and weapon swapping.

Put on your big kid pants folks, after a year and a half Anet is making you learn how to actually play the game.

Please explain to me how I as a condition necro am supposed to “support” the melee players?

Also explain to me why a condition user is necessary to stack conditions when power builds apply the same conditions and reach the cap without any condition user help?

I literally CAN’T play the game. any action at all from my character results in the application of conditions that down me. Please explain how I am supposed to do anything other than just stand there.

Out of the 20 utilities:
4 are minions that die in 1 hit from the knights AOE
4 are personal defense and do no damage
12 apply conditions

I await your all knowing power to enlighten me on how I need to L2P.

While I agree condition builds get the shaft in general due to limited stacks, there are other things that I have used on my necro. Signet of undeath for one as these bosses down tons of people. The passive also allows you to use DS more oftenwhich is better damage than nothing. Well of power is good too since they throw a whole mobs worth of condions back on people. Spectral armor for when you need to run in and res people on your SoU CD. Lich form elite for some moderate to high dps as it crits a lot. Hope this helps. Always better than warming the bench.

I think it would be really cool if she is drilling into LA to free Mursaat. You want a twist, that would be one. After all the White Mantle used to serve Mursaat and LA was held by them. In the human personal story for if you select that you never knew your parents you come across some white mantle showing they are still around.

Nah…she’d have no need to drill. Although I imagine in some update we may see Mursaat come from the Isle of Janthir. Possibly the Seers too although my hunch is the Seers were Orrian. The Ancient races are really a good point in lore that could be, yet haven’t been, used by Arena Net. Mostly because they need to keep their cards close to their chest on it because if they spill all the beans then there will be nothing left to fall back on.

I have also considered how Scarlet felt about the meddlesome humans. What if…she isn’t talking directly about “us” but about the movements of the Ministry/White Mantle? I theorize that at Caudecus’s Manor, the Queen was abducted and replaced with Mesmer Illusions. It is only after the manor that the Queen sends Logan away and now the Shinning Blade will not even let him near the Queen. It is possible a shadow war between Scarlet’s Alliance and the White Mantle have been fighting over the bloodstones, both needing the Queen to “seal” the deal. That would explain the attack on the Jubilee. It is the Mesmer illusion shattering as Lord Faren reaches for it that anyone one knows different. If that is true then the Shinning Blade could actually be controlled by the White Mantel as well. Could this all lead up to us confronting the Queen and discovering that she is a Watchknight in disguise? That could lead to Logan being banished to Ebonhawk and/or the Search for the Queen, (wild guess is she is in Cantha) and that the Ministry of Purity there is actually controlled by the White Mantle.

You are nuts. I like the theory about war over the Bloodstones though or just the Bloodstone thing in general. I refuse to believe she’s doing all of this to kill some dragon – I believe she’s a power hungry maniac and, well, that’s a pretty kitten big source of power right there. However two things:

1) Shining Blade is not controlled by the White Mantle. Perhaps though they do know something is amiss and want to distance The Seraph and other races because the Shining Blade are pretty much self-professed experts at battling evil even though it took a random hero from Old Ascalon to save their sorry kitten (ahem).

2) Ministry of Purity has nothing to do with it. They just have no reason to, their lore just isn’t anywhere near the mark. End of discussion on that.

I agree. I am just hoping that we are going to get blindsided with “Guess what? The Mursaat were making the dragons stay in hibernation and by killing a great number the ‘Heroes’ of GW1 actually screwed the world over.” =)

Just want to say that this current living story update was awesome. The story we are actually getting IN the game is fantastic and shows us a taste of what drove Scarlet insane. This type of story allows us to guess at what we think will happen and get excited for future releases. It reminds me of some of the GW1 story progression that I miss so much. Please keep doing these kinds of updates.
P.S. Please don’t touch zerker gear as it is the only thing that makes a power Necro worth having in PvE. XD

I think it would be really cool if she is drilling into LA to free Mursaat. You want a twist, that would be one. After all the White Mantle used to serve Mursaat and LA was held by them. In the human personal story for if you select that you never knew your parents you come across some white mantle showing they are still around.

I edited my OP to match what I meant to say. I had just woke up and went into pvp for 5 seconds. Well of Power 1 sec stability followed by immediate CC makes me wonder why I should even use it as it converts conditions too slowly to make a difference even with team play. After that and fear getting aegis blocked I came on the forums to post the OP as we still need a stability buff for our class.

1) A voting system for commanders in WvW- this way we can rate them by effectiveness and get away from Commander trolls running in circles with mobs.
2) Commanders with a high rating being able to map speak where the text shows up in the middle of the screen and hard to miss in combat.
3) A report system for troll using 2 after meeting requirement 1.

Please change the tooltip to just stunbreaker if that is all it really can do outside of converting conditions. One second of stability is not worth my time especially when it does not grant stability on pulse.

While we are on the topic of clipping, the Prototype Fractal Capacitor clips with 80% of all the armor selections. I have Arah light armor on my necro and cannot see my backpiece at all.

If you want to finish the bauble achievements for SAB now, you better hurry up. Follow a video-guide for the exact locations and accurate guide (e.g dulfy).
You also need to invest at least 40 minutes (up to 1h for W2Z3) for each zone in World 2 for completing the achievements, not to mention all the secrets etc.

I can also confirm the achievements are not bugged, because I have unlocked them all (including tribulation). Good luck.

Never said it was bugged in my post. I think it may be a little buggy though as I have used the dulphy guide and used mad math skills to add the baubles i grabbed to what I went into the zone with minus the key cost. Got all baubles, no deaths, and no achievement. I just got off work. I don’t feel like SAB. Maybe next release.

Who got the achievements they wanted in a few tries(or 1 try lucky ducks)! I did a few more runs to try and unstuck my baubles achievements for W2 zone 2 and 3 with no luck. I have real life commitments and can’t throw more time into this this weekend. I like the backpack cover but I will have to wait until the next SAB release assuming that the world 1 achievements coming back this time was not a one time thing as there have been inconsistencies over the last year with content. I would say I hope ANet learned from the flaws in this and work to keep the good stuff in too, but I know better.

Hi guys,

After some careful investigation of these achievements, we believe there are a few technical restrictions and communication issues that are causing the problems here.

First, Molten and Pirate events do not grant achievement credit. This means that if you hop into an invasion right as scarlet spawns, or if you spend an entire invasion on pirate and/or molten events, you will not get achievement credit for that map.

Second, disconnecting during an invasion seems to have some odd effects on participation credit, especially if you end up switching maps in the process (i.e. moving to a different overflow). You should still get credit if you participate in at least one watchwork event after reconnecting, but if you disconnect, you should assume your participation credit up to that point has been lost. This is far from ideal, but it would be a code-level fix, and we wouldn’t be able to get it in before the end of the event.

Lastly, because the previous two issues are not super obvious, people may be losing track of which maps they have already gotten credit for. The meta rewards are always given as long as you’re on the map when it ends. Many players expect this to mean that they also received achievement credit (which ideally should be a reasonable assumption). However, as this is not always the case, they may mark off a map as complete, even though they did not receive achievement credit.

So in order to receive achievement credit, you need to participate and complete at least one watchwork portal event, and still be on the map when the meta ends. It doesn’t matter how far the meta gets progressed, and you don’t need to participate in any Molten/Pirate events.

Hopefully this clarifies some things for you, and many apologies for any frustration this has caused. In the future, we will try to ensure that large-scale achievements like this are more easily trackable to cut down on any potential confusion.

Sadly I dced on 2 of the 7 but still no credit for the other 5 and I do them from start to finish. They must be missing something. =(

White Mantle…maybe. They have been pretty much reduced to little more than bandits though, so its hard to see a large scale attack of any sort.

And a little while ago Anthony had already discounted the Mursaat as a possibility. Paraphrased, he said knowing the entrance the Mursaat should have make it a bit too intensive design, art and budget wise for an incremental living story release.

They will be around eventually. But probably has part of one of the larger yearly releases.

BTW, when they eventually do show up…I think they are hiding in the Wizard’s Tower.

White Mantle are like kittenroaches. Think of how long it has been since GW1. It is very possible they have a pretty large cult.
