Maybe we need an analogy here.

Imagine walking into a hardware store to buy some nails. The shopkeeper asks you if you already own a hammer, because what are nails without one?
You answer that you already purchased a hammer from him a few years ago. The shopkeeper says: “Great! So you don’t need one.” He then tells you about the sale they have now, where if you didn’t already own a hammer you would get one for free with the nails. But since you already have one you just get the nails for the same price a new customer would get the nails plus a new hammer.

In this scenario, would you be completely kittened-off and demand either a discount on the nails or a new hammer for free with your nails as a returning customer as well?

So if the core game is just a bonus, then give existing players the option to add the expansion to their existing accounts and create another “bonus” core game account.
These negative responses were to be expected with a system like this. What gaming company does this?! I’ve never experienced this sort of crap in any other games that I play. I used to be a fan of ANet and how they handled their business, especially during GW1. Guess the company has changed for the worse over the years.

I don’t like pre-selected stat combinations to begin with. I’d rather have completely random stats on gear or as has been suggested here before a way of adding/choosing the stats you want (per stat). I think that last thing would be more fun in PvP as well. I get that you want ppl to be as equal as possible, but a major (and fun) part of PvP should be creating your build which includes gear selection.
In general, players are well capable of managing their own stats and if for those who aren’t that should be something they would want to learn. They’ll never learn if you just do it for them.

In a word NOOOOOO. The world event timer sounds awful, the worst development in the game so far. Players are being placed on a schedule rather than having the option to control events.

Rather than having guilds cooperating to push events at the right time so we can fit in as many possible, we will wait around looking for something to fill time between events. There is little point in everyone doing pres, the rewards are minimal and some scale incredibly badly (looking at arah).

The timer seems entirely at odds with the living world concept. You really should have sought feedback before implementing a change of this nature.

Regarding the megaserver changes:

  • But…I like my peace and quiet…

    I like my server because of the low number of players I run into in PvE. I enjoy rarely coming across a single other player and hanging together in silence as we explore and fight enemies before splitting off and going our separate ways to find more adventures. Seeing dozens upon dozens of players running past me every minute ruins my sense of immersion into the world.
    -
    With this virtual server merge, no longer will I be able to play content alone and in relative peace and quiet. Every enemy I face will likely be attacked by several others, or will even already be dead before I can even get to it. Every hilltop I climb for the view will be soured by a dozen other people already crowding the peak. Every remote path through the mountains or forest that I walk along (literally and with the UI off) will no longer be a serene stroll with only sounds of birds, wind and water bubbling in streams. The pleasure of a silent stroll will now be saturated with the unceasing sounds of a dozen other players constantly slaughtering the bunnies and deer nestling nearby and the busy bee line of players running back and forth across my screen.

    Yes, this is an MMO, I know there are other people in the game world and that one can expect to see and interact with other players. However, the frequency of that interaction was a choice players had based on the server they choose to play on. Servers have been specifically chosen by some (many?) players based on the density and attitudes/play styles of other players on that server.

    I like my server because I do not see dozens of players every 15 seconds running around. If I wanted that then I would go to one of the larger, more densely populated servers. The megaserver changes will destroy OW-PvE for me and will take away my choice of playing how I want to play.

    Again, if I wanted to interact with more people in the open world, I’d guest or transfer to a higher pop server. Bringing them to me and forcing interaction against my will sours my game experience. Instead of adding the living feeling to the world, more players thrown across my path only snaps me out of the immersion and reminds me that it isn’t a living world because a person taking a stroll out in the woods shouldn’t be met with the bustling crowds of dozens of people running like mad across my path every 15 seconds.

Regarding the world bosses and events changes:

  • Hinterlands: Ulgoth put on a timer? – Living and dynamic world goes bye-bye?
    -
    First I will be losing my solitude and immersion into my surroundings, now I will also lose the ability to run the Hinterlands dynamic event chain (among others) when I choose to?

    “Static” is not the same thing as “Dynamic”, it is the opposite.

    Removing the dynamic nature of zone events (such as those leading up to confronting Ulgoth) and making them into statically scheduled events is nothing short of pure madness. Arguably the most fun and spectacularly designed event chain and zone boss group event in the game (which other zone events should have been modeled off of) …and you remove the dynamic nature of it and throw it on a fixed timer?
    -
    The “living” feeling and the dynamic nature of the world and what occurs in it is constantly being removed from the game.
  • Why is the implementation and feeling of the “Living World” being slowly and intentionally removed?
  • Why are you intentionally removing the ability for players to bring about and have their own adventures?
  • Why are you forcing us to only have the adventures you want us to have, when you want us to have them?
  • Are you wanting all players of your game to have a uniform, predetermined experience as is gradually being dictated?

I would love to see a direct response to this reply, because I think you are really making some sense here. Some play MMO’s to never feel alone within the game and others play MMO’s to just occasionally see others and work together, but be able to solo around if you want to. This is the reason why most MMO’s work with high, medium and low populated servers (something that GW2 used to have as well, but will now be limited to WvW which is just a game mechanic that doesn’t work fit the second playstyle because you’ll be constantly outnumbered).
The point you address about losing a “dynamic” (not all that dynamic either but at least it’s something) in the world I also addressed in one of my previous posts here so also no disagreement on that.

I am seeing several posts about double WP costs? Where is this coming from? It isn’t mentioned ANYWHERE in the blogs about the megaserver. The only mention of WPs is that if it is contestable it will show up as contested until you arrive in the map. Am I missing something?

You are because this means that you can no longer waypoint to any contestable WPs from other maps and instead will first have to waypoint to another WP on that map to be able to WP yet again to get to the WP you actually needed to get to if it turns out it was uncontested on that map copy all along.
This combined with short distances being way more expensive to travel by WPs in relation to longer distances is a very clear step backwards

It’s a bit weird that after many complaints about the dynamic world not being all that dynamic in reality you actually remove one of the more randomized factors in the game (world boss spawns).
Also the casual players will very likely not be able to participate in all of the events anymore, with these fixed timers across all server copies. Not everyone is in a larger guild and has the ability to finance a couple of extra spawns a day.

I’m a bit confused about this statement: “we’re making it easier to play with your friends on every PvE map”. You state that it will become easier to end up on the same map copy as your friends, but your friends (as in Friend List) aren’t mentioned as one of the determining weights for map copy selection. So I’m either forced to party up with friends (which would result in a limit of max. 4 friends) or to get everyone to join the same Guild or Home World (which aren’t very realistic options either). So could you add Friends as one of the determining weight as well?

Furthermore this system wouldn’t be such a huge step back for many coordinated groups that take on world bosses if you would add Alliances to the game or at least an option to add befriended Guilds as one of the determining weights for map copy selection as well (but Alliances would be a lot easier and better for many different reasons as well).

Don’t get me wrong, all in all I like the new system, but there is also room for improvement already. I mean this would be ultimate occasion to remove the split between EU and NA servers if you want people to enjoy a full map copy during off-hours for their timezone as well

Hi,

All Daily Achievements reward you with 5% experience in addition to the 1AP, except for Daily Activity Participation which only rewards the 1AP. Not high priority of course but I can’t imagine fixing this would take much time and the rewards should just be the same for all Dailies.

I wouldn’t expect a repeat of Halloween, but I would definitely expect a repeat of last years Wintersday :P

But seriously though, you actually liked Wintersday more than Halloween in 2012? I was rather disappointed with the Wintersday content in terms of how enjoyable it was over time. The JP was way easier and the content stayed pretty much the same during the patch, where Halloween 2012’s content really evolved over time. Also Halloween was more rewarding, so ppl were actively farming the content but in Wintersday the content just wasn’t really worth repeating after a few times anymore.
The content itself was fun in general, but the combination of the patch being live way too long and the content not being worth repeating was pretty boring.

EDIT: However it could still be that they have some cool surprises left for us. The patch will be running for six weeks which is double the time of Wintersday 2012. Last year I know that more ppl were complaining about there being too less durable content to fill those three weeks, I can’t really imagine them knowing that and still decide to add (basically) nothing and double the duration. Then again, we just left the disappointment of Halloween behind us so who knows any more

Friday they should provide us with more information in their twitch stream. Hopefully they will get more granular with the skills and explain how long the cool down is for the skills, how much do they actually heal for, and how long does the effect last.

The skills as described on the reddit link are also on www.gw2db.com so if you just search for the individual names you can see the tooltips with info like cd’s. Though I’m not completely sure if it’s all real, the chat codes don’t seem to work and also the icons used in the tooltips aren’t new (e.g. Skelk Venom uses Spider Venom’s icon, Arcane Brilliance uses Arcane Wave’s icon). But it could be that the chat codes do work in some beta version and that they just added an existing icon that resembles the skill because it’s not available yet.

So if the old forum thread was deleted because the info was incorrect it might be a good idea to confirm that here (and afterwards lock this thread). If it was deleted because the info was correct and you don’t want everyone finding it out before the release you can of course just delete this one as well without explaining why instead of just locking it.

All I ever paid for with real money was the game itself (normal version, deluxe just wasn’t worth it for me). I did buy some stuff with gems (char slots, bank tabs, MK outfit and infinite continue coin), but I really don’t need most of the items there and if I do I just get my gems for them with gold as I’ve always done so far.
I wouldn’t have bought the game if it was sub-based or if the gem store was real money only or OP. I like games where you pay for them once and are then able to fully enjoy it. But if others want to use real money for ingame stuff that’s not OP I’m perfectly fine with it

The lack of base survivability in combination with the lack of good alternatives (like damage increase) forces us to mainly focus on improving our survivability, leading to the same builds. At the moment going for something other than speccing mainly into survivability just isn’t worth it in comparison.

Solution: Moving some of the extra survivability from traits and slot skill to the base survivability and better alternatives so ele’s can choose what to specialize in instead of being forced into one direction just to keep up.

December 10th Elementalist changes

The proposed changes are mainly focussing on making popular traits more difficult to obtain and also eliminating some popular combinations. This won’t change the Ele’s need to spec mainly in survivability, it will just make Ele’s less viable in general. So this won’t result in more build diversity at all.
In my view this should be seen as a clear sign that the base Ele is lacking survivability and that the alternative options are just too weak. Move some of the survivability from traits and slot skills to the base Ele, because atm the gap is just too large. Also boost the alternatives in a way that they are actually worth considering when comparing all options. This should lead to Ele’s being able to either get that extra damage or going for that extra survivability. Maybe even add viable possibilities for builds focussing more on condition damage, crowd control, support or on the mechanics of conjure weapons for example (I know there are traits for conjures but aside from a few parts of the game conjure weapons are just not worth using).

On a side note I want to thank you for sharing your ideas so openly with us. It’s nice to see an approach like this for a change and I think it ultimately leads to the best results.

I received 8 of those ugly masks on my main now since the “fix” while I was maxing out king of the costume brawl. I’d rather have the 200 ToT-bags than all these masks. So if you decide you want to fix this before MK says ends, I would love to exchange my spare masks for the ToT-bags I was supposed to get.

I tried to open the chest but as I was in costume brawl and trying hitting others while not getting hit myself it apparently never opened the chest (guess this one doesn’t open instantly but takes a few secs for it to open). Hope I can get it the next hour, although I will probably never use the skin.

Up until the “fight” with the Bloody Prince I just thought this was some sort of rushed LS patch, but the Bloody Prince is so weak that I now just assume it’s all a big trick to let us think this is it, while there is still more to come. My guess is he’ll probably come stir things up during Mad King Says or something. But if this really is all there’s going to be for Halloween this year I’m not looking forward to Wintersday, which was already less thrilling than Halloween last year.

I’d say add daily rare and chance of craftable halloween skin on the legendary bosses, adjust the hp scaling to a normal rate and let the “single veteran spawn” door events scale up to a champion if there are enough ppl in the area.
Atm the bosses take so boringly long to kill and everything gives such crappy loot that I just can’t get myself to go back in there now that I finished the achievement grind.

Not to mention that I can’t get the fitting shoes because apparently they were attainable last year only?
I have enough one-of-a-kind-armor-pieces (Fused Gaunlets, Dragonbash Helmet, Clockwork Shoulders, etc.) that don’t fit anywhere else really because Anet thinks complete armor sets are for ninnies or something. :/

Btw the gloves from this year aren’t part of same set as the boots from last year. Check: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mad_King%27s_armor
And the skins from last year weren’t unique sadly, they just used the same skins as already existing armor. I don’t know for sure if that also goes for this years gloves but they do seem rather familiar to me.

The problem with it is that the game has grown, but the Halloween event hasn’t grown with it. I’d say it has even been set back, because now the bosses have way too much hp and they don’t drop the craftable halloween skins. During the previous event loot was different. Champions and veterans didn’t really matter so everyone was happy with the many trash mobs in labyrinth and a few bosses. Nowadays you don’t really get the good loot from trash, but from champions. That’s why last year ppl were farming exp and loot in labyrinth and now most ppl just get the hell out of there once they finish their achievs for this year. It’s not profitable in the current state of the game so you really have no reason to be there.

NPC Rasmus' Staff Skin should be obtainable

The skin used for Rasmus’ Staff (the NPC in LA, marked with a pumpkin icon on the map near the MF) is awesome. I really hope it’s some rare drop from something during the event because it would be a total waste if it was only used by a single temporary NPC.

FR, DE and ES Worlds need separate overflows

Hi all,

It would be nice if there would be separate overflows for the FR, DE and ES worlds so that worlds with different language focusses aren’t thrown together. That way people from language specific worlds can just keep speaking their own language and people from other worlds can stop reminding them that overflows are shared and they don’t speak their language I also believe linking things like wp’s don’t work between different language settings, which also makes sharing the same overflow servers annoying.

Apparently you’ll loot portal components randomly during invasions, which look like non-sellable heart quest/event trash. If you loot all three of them you can combine them to finish the meta. I only trashed the first two I looted because it has no description so there is no way of knowing that they are part of the event…

If you help Vorpp reverse engineer the portal you can go in and kick her out, which will let you get back in to the arena proper.

Yeah only the three portal components have no description and look like not sellable heart quest/event trash. I’ve looted all three already, but trashed the first two because of this. Is there any way to loot them again or get them back?

What are you talking about? Crystals?

During the invasion events you can loot 3 pieces neccesary to create a portal. This is what the Emissary Vorpp’s Field Assistant is all about apparently. One achiev is Portal Component Procurer, which is what you get if you loot all three, then for Teleportation Facilitator achiev you’ll have to fuse them together or something like that which will also give you the Emissary Vorpp’s Field Assistant meta achiev. One is called “Oscillating Diapragm”, all are common rarity soulbound trophies without any description and the icons are the same as those of the craftable Tuning Crystals.

Had the same problem… I looted the first two pieces almost straight after eachother in the same map. That made me think it was just some random item from a heart quest/event because it says Trophy and has no description. I just looted the third one in the next map which gave me the achiev so then I knew it was a part of the event. Only have the third one now, hope I can still loot the first two pieces again

I like the idea of using social media like fb to breeze more life into the story and to get the community excited and involved, but of course you can’t do it like this with the huge spoilers. I know it’s pretty impossible because of the limitations of fb, but please try to find a better way to incorporate fb into the story or just use a section on the website/forum to discuss spoiler-sensative material

It’s all temporary content. Some events will return later this year or next year again, but those will be the holiday events (RL of ingame) and will probably be differ each time. So it will be highly unlikely that you will be able to complete the Living Story and Special Event achievements you’ve missed so far. I’d advise you to keep an eye on the Releases page, so you don’t have to miss more temporary content

Maybe we should also ask for a “do every single thing for me in the game while I watch and complain” button. Sorry but this is just rediculous. If anything there was too much information, not a lack of information or incorrect info. They took you by the hand and guided you through the whole thing (figuratively speaking).
Complaining about their guide for the event not being ingame, but on their official website… come on… What do you want next, an ingame forum?

Whoever you want to blame here, there still really isn’t anything we can do about it. If the wiki wasn’t open to everybody anymore it would be out of date in no time, leading only to more faulty information or no information at all. ANet apparently can’t also manage the wiki themselves and I’d rather have them focus on the game then on the game’s wiki. So the wiki will always be vulnerable to trolls and human errors, this case is an example of such a human error (this wasn’t done by a troll).

Well they are already pretty easily obtainable (e.g. compare these to the Jetpack from Flame and Frost). I really don’t like it when people say they don’t have much time to play but still expect that they can obtain all the content or play through everything. That’s just not how it works in online gaming. Some things are meant as a reward for the players who do play it a lot and they probably deserve it for their commitment. And as I said earlier, you can’t even call these wings content for grinders only with it’s current TP price.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely not one of the grinders who can play the game all day. I play when I can and try to at least participate in as much as I can. But if some of the content is not accessible to me because I don’t play enough, well that’s just something I’ll have to live with and accept

Lol I really thought this thread was going to be about requesting a pause option during cinematics (which doesn’t sound so bad btw), but I haven’t really noticed this so far. Or at least it didn’t really bother me

Moa Racing is a lousy activity, but that’s the only thing I’m giving you here. The other achievs are fine. Why do you think they call it Achievements? Because in some of the cases it takes a while to get them. If you’ve spent hours in Dragon Ball then you’ve just experienced MONTHLY content. I’ll say it again just to clarify it, it’s supposed to be monthly content and an achievement. Most of the content is already way too easy and you really can’t even consider the Dragon Ball achievements as extremely difficult.
As pointed out you didn’t even need to do Dragon Ball from the start for the meta, so you really have no point here.
