We don’t know if it will be a HOT exclusive, just like the new WvW map. We don’t know much about the xpaction.
if Stronghold and the new WvW map arent apart of the expansion what would seriously devalue the expansion. especially if they want to charge $50 for it.
also, i thought they said it was going to be a custom arena at first before they decide what to do with it as far as making a queue for it. adding it to the rotation would probably kitten alot more people off then it would make happy.

problem with this is, that you cant accept que pop while in loading screen. thats why they made it like its now. some people with ssd may not get a problem but i know people who load really long and they would constantly missing que pops.
so i understand the decision to not let us go into other maps. instead of this i would wish for a duel option in the heart of the mist (for example where the underwater combat was before)
really simple fix. if you leave the map you queued on you are taken out of queue. Problem solved.
they basically got lazy and did the simplest thing instead of the right thing by their players.

number of games played doesnt really mean much, thats kind of the elitist attitude that is so prevalent in mmo games.
If they have any basis in reality they have already figured that gw2 pvp as a “thing” was essentially dead 2 months after lunch.
This is GW2 and by far the least played aspect of it, is its pvp. That should tell you something.
Frankly, which MMO has higher number of players playing pvp than pve? MMOs means primarily pve and judging by the reaction of people that complain about new dailies in pve it won’t change.

like i have said many places, what mmorpg centered their game around pvp? and if they did was it done well? its not that pve is preffered, its that every mmorpg out there pushes you into pve.
WoW’s entire esport is centered around 3v3 arena PVP. If you have good combat arena is great reports material. Especially if matches were set up best of 3. Gw2 2v2 and 3v3s have tons of moments for amazing clutch moments and stomp plays. Just watch some 2v2 tournies, it’s exciting as hell. In many cases way more exciting than a sweeping game or a stalemate or watching a bunker roll around on the ground doing nothing but trying to survive in a circle.
Except it isn’t great e-sports material, WoW arena failed as an esport, it got dumped by esports, despite having a huge playerbase and the finances of Blizzard, running around pillars just wasn’t that exciting, as for “clutch plays” you don’t get any more in an arena format than any other format, all arena essentially is, is a team fight, something which occurs in most other PvP formats anyway, arena is a simplistic lower skill cap alternative.
However “e-sports” aside, I agree a 2v2 / 3v3 arena could be fun, but Anet have already said they don’t want to split the playerbase further, and beyond that there is balance, now saying it is just a bit of fun is fine, the reality will be there will be people taking it seriously and screaming about the balance.
Pillars are the worst enemy of arenas imo…literally the stupidest thing that gets added to them and i dont understand why every arena map is so gung ho about them.

the problem with the “split player base” logic is that the reason the playerbase is small is becuase of the lack of pvp options. Conquest gets old! people dont want to stick around for just that. wvw is fun but only if youre on an active world. what does GW2 do to keep your average pvp player here? the answer is nothing, there is no pvp focused rewards, there is no competitive scene (~5 teams is not competitive), and they dont hype it at all (what a month after the WTS you saw it on their website). Limiting options for players is never a good way to grow a playerbase. And sorry but Stronghold is not going to attract a new player base, its just going to pull from the already existing one because again it wont be seen as competitive by the mmorpg pvp community. the most the gw2 pvp community has to realistically hope for is that there will be a month or so of increased players, personally i think it will ultimately reduce the number of pvp players. especially considering 2015 should be a good year for new games.
and THIS is what i am talking about ppl, players who already like PvP constantly talking as if everyone has to play PvP.
when do ppl stop talking like they know what other players want and start thinking of other’s wishes, is it so hard to think for someone else’s sake?

You know you can google the boss timers? And it will tell you exactly when to show up and where. If you are waiting forever, perhaps your map isn’t doing the pre-events necessary? Show up 5min before the timer says and you’ll be fine. Read what the top right says, it usually tells you what step you are on. Don’t just stand around if it is taking long, there may be some stupid escort event or gathering event that must be completed first. If everyone just shows up and does nothing, the boss will not spawn.
I guess a lot of people don’t realize there are pre-events to spawn the bosses?
escort = stand around walk occasionally swing sword around mobs melt cause even when scaled down youre still OP. if you are in the middle of something its annoying to stop and go do this “quick.” i dont care enough to look up timers for something with very little return (reward + fun).
the pve dailies just are not fun, theyre more of a chore than amusing.

i could see in a custom game getting kicked for grabbing the orb. they probably had an agreement you didnt know about and kicked you for breaking it by grabbing the orb.
Thats not exciting. That’s stressful. Do we really need to go over the vast number of people that don’t even get map completion because it involves going onto a map where they could potentially be “ganked”? They literally don’t want that so they stay out of the game mode it can happen in. Its not fun for them. It would be less fun if they were trying to do a JP and some tool comes out of stealth and kills them right before they finish it or hammers them from the top before they could open the chest. That isn’t thrilling and that would probably lead to the single largest decline in players GW2 has if they ever implemented that. Now if servers meant anything anymore and they wanted to make a server a PvP server where that could happen, then by all means, have at it. I’d love to see its actual population as compared to the others.

However, if you read the OP he does not suggest Open world PVP he suggests dueling areas added to the world, or in their own zones that would serve as pvp zones if you entered them. Not full map PVP, not open world PVP, but small areas in zones that serve as PVP dueling zones.
he just stated it does add something to pve, you may view it as stress, another exciting, but that still adds something to the experience.
and just because you have a whole bunch of pansies who are so afraid to get killed by another person while trying to get map completion doesnt mean you should cater to them. its not hard at all to get the wvw maps, it might take a few weeks of waiting for colors to switch. but really even at peak hours its not like everywhere you go is a zerg foaming at the mouth waiting for you.

and ya, last night it took 2 hrs to play about 3-4 conquest games. thats all i accomplished in 2 hours…. once i realized how long that took i just turned the game off for the night. and it was during NA primetime…
Ranked has standard models (no asuras!), no Skyhammer, no Courtyard, and no Spirit Watch. The players there are generally better.
Unranked does not let you use standard models, people often vote Courtyard, there’s always that one troll that manages to get us Skyhammer or Spirit Watch, and the players are generally bad.
Hot join is just like unranked except you can escape maps and games you don’t like, but in turn you must deal with it being either so easy that it’s boring, or being out numbered all the time, because no one wants to make the effort to win. They just want to be on the winning side. A hot join match is more a battle of the auto balance system for a spot on the team with the most points at the time. Consequentially, hot join is not ideal when you’re trying to play with people in a party. At least in unranked, the teams are fixed until the match ends.
idk about ranked having generally better players. i usually only q ranked with a friend or two, but the games are of the same quality as if we did it in unranked. it might be a MMR issue idk as i only play ranked anymore with a cpl friends. and considering you do see the names of the people who compete in the tourns in unranked often. honestly, at least at my MMR/skill level (my guess would be mediocre to average), there is barely any difference in player quality between unranked and ranked, the only difference is the maps available. (i could care less about fighting asuras, they arent any harder to target than norns/charrs.)
your points about hotjoin are valid. when im in the mood for quick games and not sitting in q for long periods of time i will bounce around until i get lucky and find that room of people that stay and just keep playing to win. but admittedly i do sometimes give up before finding it.
I find this very hard to believe. Since around Monday, most of my queue times have been over 4 minutes and as of yesterday my queue times have shot up even further to 5-8 minutes.
just go to hot join, there is no point in playing ranked if youre not grinding the ladderboard. and there is very little difference between unranked and hot join, accept in hot join you can instantly leave a map you hate without dishonor. player quality is no different.
By world tournament you mean the sPvP tournament marketing thing where they tried to push the game as an esport even though it lacks pretty much all the things that make the currently popular esports so popular? The current top reigning esports like starcraft, LoL, dota and counterstrike didn’t become esports overnight just because someone decided to add prize pools to the game. They were already excellent multiplayer PvP experiences with extremely high skill-ceiling that kept people playing for years and competing online without any prizes. They all also receive relatively frequent balance patching to keep the game alive and players interested.
Like someone mentioned already, the GW2 PvP is as stale as a 3-year old bread. It won’t stop being stale by adding prize pools and labeling it as an esport.

tbh tho, all 4 of the games you mentioned are built around PvP not PvE. this is the exact reason why current mmorpg models will never be truly esports. until we get a mmorpg built around pvp there wont be a esports to speak of.

what are they hurting? they arent getting on the ladderboards, they arent increasing their mmr, and all they are getting is rewards that dont impact spvp at all. no harm no foul.
Even then, those rewards are earned faster in normal arenas… lol.
Do you know how long it takes to make a major part of these games? If Anet decides to make Gw3 right now It would probably be out sometime in 2017.(2018 if any problems arise)

You are thinking rather binary here. WildStar was coming out regardless on the decision of bringing B&S to NA or not. Carbine had been working on it for years. And since it was a localization port originally they didn’t need an studio or a studio size budget so it’s not as if the money was tossed Carbine’s way. It’s not A or B.
Here’s the thing. When NCSOFT released Lineage II, their income doubled. With AION it doubled again (AION was HUGE for NCSOFT). Now they hyped B&S to their stockholders as the next AION. When it came out, income barely moved with income from B&S offset by a similar size decrease in AION’s income. That’s why they doubled down with China but the port took a lot longer due to it’s more adult (some would say 12 year old boy) nature of female character design. And it’s looks like they lost that bet now that it’s out as well. They recently expanded into Japan using an anime series as advertising.

There is PvE in PvP currently. Rank farming servers. They are a plague, and have encouraged a lazy grindfest pve mentality among players which has trivialized rank.

The wasn’t the hit they expected in Korea, seeming to eat into their existing player base of their other games rather than being the next AION and be an entire new massive income stream. With not as much income they decided on China rather than NA/EU for the first port.
But because the China port took a lot longer due to the censoring requirement since the original game’s body physics engine and sparse clothing options for women was frowned upon in China.
That might have led them into rumored decision to port the China version to NA since an MMO with an MA rating probably won’t do as well when all others are rated T. However if that does come to past, there is a fairly vocal group who will be disappointed that the “pervy” nature of the game got nerfed.
there is alot more than that holding it back, but primarily it is bad decisions one after another on ncsofts part.

i think it will be popular with the PvE players, and i am sure the PvP players will find it annoying. Maybe the people who have been begging for a GvG like mode might find it enjoyable.

And i am saying that there’s no reason to put such a zone in PvE, when it would fit the Mists better. In fact, you can say that Mists are such a place already (even if they may need a little touchup for some specific vs modes).
no the mists aren’t. there is no megaserver in the mists where pvp is possible without being in some type of objective based game mode.
GvG threads are like mount ones in the Gw2 discussion subforum. No matter how many times they say no, these threads will pop up.

The very fact that there is a Zergy is saying that WvW is populated. If players wish to run together as a group that IS up to the players not the game makers. And it still is a one time pay game. HOT is an expansion, you can carry on playing the current content for free, but to play the HOT content, you will have to buy the expansion.
Some are saying $50, but for what was briefly shown during the announcement that is way too much for such a small expansion; $25-30 would be better suited.
But as with most of the details, we dont know the release date, all the content, or how much it will cost. We’ll find out in the coming months.

YES, it does happen, and not only when we did so. It would not even be hard to do it again against players who were not expecting it. Having you know the plan however, makes that much more difficult. Hell, I could just make sure we bring our Youtuber with us when playing randoms and record it and make it happen for ya if you wanted. Having you know what we are going to do before hand is a whole different story, as you will be prepared for it.

Per the OP we’re only talking about armor. Armor has a much lower impact on your overall stats than weapons or trinkets have.
If this were a discussion on weapons, yes you absolutely want the ascended weapon. Trinkets as well, but they’re relatively inexpensive. Armor is trivial.
This topic is indeed only inquiring about ascended ARMOR, because it is a drag to get. The core question was: do I need ascended armor sets for wvw or will exotics work just fine
