I play rev a lot. Were okay, really… Power rev is a glass cannon and needs to be as glass as it is cannon. The cannon aspect of rev is high, the glass part balances it out.

As for the talk about rolling mist, it should be reverted to give a 1.5x bonus (so fury gives 30%). If charged mists gets fixed at the same time then invocation will be okay and power rev will be as well.

Hahaha hahahahahaha not the weakest but I’d argue it’s the most shoe horned class. I’d like to see an update to the class so it’s not just a bunker. I don’t think tempest should have ever been designed to be a bunker since ele was previously one of the most defensive classes. I wish it was offensive instead.

It’s a good increase to DPS for PvE especially since Jalis is so unreliable. For roaming I don’t think it’s worth it but for raids n stuff you need Mallyx/Glint

I still think the best is to make it work like old school mallyx. I don’t want the old UA, I think the new one isn’t great but its not overpowered and provides on point AoE pressure.

Making it do torment on a cool down is just gunna make it too much like Diabolic Inferno, and people will just choose the one that does more damage.

There are the 3 themes to corruption: condi dmg, condi loading and crits, so it should focused around condi loading and a lot of trait changing that could be done would be to do just that.

Of course that wouldn’t be the easiest for the team… Maybe if target is struck with x stacks of torment, they’re feared on a kitten cooldown? Again old mallyx style with trait would make me the happiest.

If it did work there’s also the issue of it activating on chance rather then on number of conditions. I tried it when it worked and I never found it stronger than diabolic inferno due to that exact issue

You think a year for bugs existing is unreasonable … I think the season veterans of this game and other MMO’s would disagree with you. That’s quite short actually.

That doesn’t mean that a class-wide bug extant for a year is reasonable.

Actually it does. While you think it’s significant, it doesn’t make the class broken or unplayable and even less so the game. Not acknowledging the nature of bugs getting fixed and their timelines shows a significant lack of experience in MMO playing. You’re assuming they aren’t attempting to fix them and you’re assuming that bugs are easy to fix and should be done faster than a year. That’s naive.

As a seasoned veteran of the game, but not other MMOs, I’d disagree. Sure in the last there have been things that have remained an issue but not in the main profession and not without an attempt to fix them. I remember echo in gw1 had problems but there were frequent acknowledgements by the devs and attempts to fix it.

I don’t think this should take a year to fix. It took a year to develop it, if it takes that long in other games then you need to take a serious look at the competency of their QA department. The thing is, I know anet is better than this, they can do better, they should do better. It’s frustrating.

The argument that other MMOs do it is always a stupid one. It would be like if a kid was caught smoking and his argument is “well billy does meth”, well Billy’s a 45yr old junky that believes the fire department is spiders; don’t do anything billy does. Billy’s gross

Yes rev went threw some changes during beta. They absolutely messed up Mallyx, and have yet to totally fix what they said they would. There will never be a fix.

No rev should not have it’s primary mechanic removed. It works. If you don’t like the energy mechanic then revenant isn’t the class for you.

  • I’d prefer alpine, although I do enjoy the design of the desert but it’s too big for it’s own good. It would be cool to divide this areas content and recycle it for other purposes like a FA style pvp mode focused around the lava dungeon keep.

It’s tiresome that the hit cap promotes stacking, and I wish there was an emphasis on strategy on map-wide strategy. So even if a server has a low population, a smart-coordinated server could potentially take out a well populated but simple tactic server. Of course numbers will still matter, just no longer paramount.

It has been about a year since I played revenant for the first time, in beta. Since then few, if any, bugs have been fixed. I truly do understand some are difficult to fix, like the unrelenting assault wall bug, but hammers z axis issues or reposting shadows sticking you in the ground (also a z-axis issue). Jalis and hammer, which are the oldest revenant weapons, seem to be the worst off for bugs. It’s bafflinge to the point I sincerely believe that a different team built the alpha rev (jalis and mallyx only) rather than what we have now.

It feels like I’m still playing the class in beta and its driving me insane. How the actual kitten have some of these bugs not been fixed? Phase traversals pathing issue could be fixed easily by recycling the games teleport code but it seems like they wrote new code for the teleport on it and it doesn’t work. A lot of skills could be fixed like this. A few are just implemented poorly, like Vengeful hammers and I get it, but it needs a fix cause this skill is just unusable. Then there are the absolutely inexcusable bugs, I’m talking about Envoy of Exhuberance. How does that still have an issue in either numbers or text displayed. It’s aggravating as kitten because all it says is anet doesn’t read bug reports. There is a giant bug list here , that the community developed, but not a single one has been fixed. Well the assassins annihilation one got fixed but that’s only cause it was op in PvP cause who cares about the stuff that doesn’t get used even if the only reason it isn’t used is because it doesn’t work?!

I’m clearly irate about this because despite the vastly large number of bug reports submitted there have been 0 fixes. It’s unprofessional arena net, and shame on you for not fixing it. There is no excuse for not fixing it. Being a casual game, a professional game, making new content, prioritising PvE or PvP/vise versa, it doesn’t matter since this effects every single mode in this game.

Seven months and three days ago, revenant was released and it wasn’t done. Hell most games aren’t, but after half a year something should be done. Even an apology would make me feel okay, ideally a dev saying they’re working on fixing it or a straight up bug fix. I contemplated posting hateful things to this, banible things, just to assure the devs see this. There’s nothing I know to do to get any attention to the issue and its not a little one. It limits us severely, especially in PvE.

PS: I have theories about charged mists. It’s a really good trait but it doesn’t work. The base code just needs to be rewritten, it seems to be coded into legend skills rather than energy. Its probably a miscommunication error. In the code currently written it has a energy_before>50.0 and energy_after<50.0 which raises 2 issues. 1) they use a non-integer for energy, this is shown by the energy indicator being a little above but stating 50% and when it shows that you can gain the might but not if shows 50% and lines up with the indicator. This will make the code slower, like a lot slower, I assume for the purpose of making the animation smoother, but will cause issues. 2) they probably intended for this to be combat only but didn’t program in the boolean for combat only and instead did the exclusively more than 50 variable rather than >= limiting the potentially high skill cap of the trait (given it works with weapon skills).

Unless they remove ALL passive abilities on the dozen or so runes (e.g. Rune of the Grove), AND all the passive auto fear/auto taunt/auto stability/auto anything talents on every profession, no.

Cherry picking is not the way to go — either it’s all removed or it all gets to stay.

Well most are stun for stun where nightmare runrs are just stun every 60s. Any trait that works similarly Id be cool with axing

Revs my favourite profession but there are some significant issues. I don’t mean balance wise. I mean bug wise. Jalis is very buggy and so is hammer, your only ranged option. Try some PvE with it, or test it out in the PvP lobby, and see how you feel about the playstyle. I don’t recommend determining using the boost based off PvP games since the playstyle/role is a bit different and you have much more freedom in PvE. Try it out for sure in PvP, it’s where it shines, but it’s much less intense in PvE.

People typically don’t like it in PvE cause raid teams just use Rev for Facet of Nature which is really really really really boring

The problem with PvP is the stats themselves are so innately different from PvE/WvW that coming up with balanced skills themselves to fit both formats is literally impossible.

The way I see it, why split balancing when the problem is the split in stats and simply just make a few tweaks to PvE and WvW instead of rebalancing each game mode individually, especially since there’s more diversity in WvW than sPvP to begin with?

Well originally they used to be the same with some minor differences like dire wasnt in PvP. However, a month after it was found that elite specs (namely chronomancer and tempest) with stats like celestial or sentinel virtually couldn’t be killed and games screeched to a halt. This was known as the bunker meta. Games almost always went to the timer with scores as low as 100-0 and teams would often give up as soon as a point was capped. Things got so bad that long time PvP veterans quit the game even when money was on the line.

Elite specs all provide defence inherently, with the slight exception of reaper, at no cost of point contestion loss. So, to allow for the progression of games, arenanet split the stats of PvP from PvE/WvW rather than splitting the balance.

It worked, pvp games aren’t a test of patience anymore, but it didn’t solve the problem of powercreep and powercreep is needed for raids.

To immediately acknowledge the devs, I know your reason why there hasn’t been a split. It’s because splitting the balance created confusion when switching between game modes and discourages people from going between each, but there’s a unacknowledged issues that have already caused this.

By not splitting them, theres been a slight but significant resentment building in the community. People are mad about how pvp balance is prioritised hurting certain professions viability, pvpers are mad that pve balance is simultaneously acknowledged preventing certain needed nerfs, and wvw seems to be ignored entirely. Right now I know some pvers won’t do pvp because they have a grudge against it due to this issue. Pvpers are mad at pvers because everything is inherently designed to be useful in pve. WvW is what I feel the worst for, because when something is nerfed for pvp it’s hurt in wvw as well but when something is designed for pve it hurts wvw. I don’t even play wvw and I feel bad. Take the phase traversal nerf for example, it was a slight nerf for pvp as it’s strength is that it allows revs to go between two points rapidly (and still does) but in pve+wvw it really hurt cause now you can’t escape/roam nearly as quickly.

The bigger problem lies in the design differences between the three gameplay modes and the design of the core classes. PvE, of all forms, relies or benifits heavily from having non-slow moving moving glass canon style builds, doing aoe and high sustained damage with support builds to increase the sustained DPS. PvP has almost an opposite design, favouring bruiser/bunker type builds and ones that are capable of burst damage with a strong emphasis on going short distances (2500-4000) in under 5s ,15 tops. It also benifits from condition builds, ones that can improve sustain of others, and more importantly ones that can avoid conditions. So if something works in PvP it doesn’t necessarily mean it works in PvE, in fact it almost never does, and inversely things that work well in PvE don’t work in PvP. Of course a lot of things are used in both but things that are especially strong in one aren’t in the other, like projectile blocking reflect is great in PvP but highly situational in PvE. Might stacking is needed in PvE but in PvP having 25 might stacks on your entire team can win a skirmish and being able to stack might alone can influence a professions viability alone. WvW is strongly improved by water fields, projectile denial, aoe swiftness, any mass support skills, and ranged combat. Which, while partially affected by the other two, has an entirely different emphasis. I know I’m not a WvW player so for this I can’t totally say, but this seems to take advantage of the core design the most.

Trying to balance all three at once is impossible by design; PvP, WvW and PvE inherently conflict with each other, but they’re forced to work within the same system. Weapons, utilities, specialisations, profession mechanics, stats etc… aren’t going to be designed to work in all 3 game modes and one is going to be favoured more than the others. A big example of this was the change to Mallyx. It was considered to be quite powerful in PvP, it was strong but challenging since it benefitted greatly by suffering from conditions ( but a single boom rip could end it. In PvE however, it was useless since enemies inflict conditions so its overall damage output was severely limited. In the end PvE won over. Most of the game is designed around PvE and most people play PvE, it makes total sense but then it’s balanced around PvP. It’s taking a cannonball, then shaving it down a bullet and expecting it to both blast through walls and to be portable equally effectively. It’s not going to happen, it’s going to be a subpar cannonball and a subpar bullet.

Having balance that works for everything is overly ambitious. From a marketing standpoint it makes sense but from a gameplay perspective it’s baffling. GW1 had PvE/PvP balance split and no one was mad about it, no one thought it was a bad thing. Balancing one of these is hard enough, three is rediclous. I can’t imagine the balance team is having an easy time doing this and I sincerely do not mean to be rude or bashful to them. They’re doing a great job given the constraints they have to work with.

Doing this could open up a lot of builds and content for people. While I do wish for the return of the original Mallyx, I can see that being an issue for programmers to do. Phase Traversal could be fixed easily by lower it’s range in PvP to 900 and lowering it’s energy in PvE/WvW back to 20. Scrapper could also use a revamp in regards to PvE, as stomping and reviving are uncommom, the trait Decisive Renown is fairly weak. There are two revenant traits (Dismantle Fortifications and improved aggression) that already only work in certain game modes so why not kill two birds with one stone?

It’s not too bad. Its 3 layers. It’s a top layer that connects to the camp’s in straight lines, and a bottom one that does the same and some small tunnels that connect top to bottom. Also underwater tunnels which is weird since they weren’t in any of the other maps.

What to do against Necros & general condi?

If you’re engaging a necro 1v1:

  • Force them to play defensively by playing aggressively. Start with UA or Surge to evade Rise. Less minions the better. Typically avoid this if possible. Like to don’t push onto this if you don’t have to.

In a team fight:

  • This is distinctly different because it’s hard to keep up the damage as your offence goes down per person and their defence goes up. Hit and run and make sure to DPS after a cc with sword auto and impossible odds.

If they’re already on you:

  • Staff 4 + leadership runes and make sure to use reposting shadows to get rid of non damaging conditions before hand. Use glints heal if you can, it can land you a full heal easily.

In general:

  • you’re very susceptible to conditions. Use blocks and evades to your advantage so you never get them in the first place but blocks don’t work agaisnt a lot of necro abilities.

This really isn’t a discussion of difficulty as some people seem to have been obsessing about but the mentioned and very real issue that HoT doesn’t follow the same design aspects of gw2 and that it was lacklustre. For instance gw2 wasn’t supposed to have a dedicated healer but now there are tempests/druids and these are needed for raids. A lot of things take a long grind to unlock, like masteries which lock off parts of the maps, the elite specs, the raids as they require ascended equipment and that’s time gated. The issue with the grind is that there’s just not much to do, like there’s only 4 maps. I’ve done them all at least a dozen times.

I do disagree that the maps are bad. I really enjoyed them, I wish there were more but there arent. It makes me feel ripped off

My Powercreep Experience Today

It really is a huge issue. Anet keeps trying to fix it with ammy changes as you mentioned but it doesn’t change much.

The biggest example of this logic has been anet trying to balance mesmer. Since HoT, mesmer has been considered op in every meta. The first and biggest problem was bunker mesmers, which provided a ton of support and couldn’t die on top of that. Anet removed their ammy and halved their support potential. Next iteration was condi mesmers which still had ridiculous sustain potential and high offence potential. So they removed their ammy, but guess what? They’re still meta and its still a problem. The build has barely changed because why would it? The issue isn’t the ammy, it’s that chronomancer allows strong utilisation of extra-effect-on-all-shatter traits and frequent access to elite skills which normally can’t be used. Namely the one from inspiration which heals and removes conditions on shatters, the one from chaos that adds a boon and stability (although this one isn’t used any more but would be given one of the others gets hit), and the entire illusions line. Running a power build would be stupid with sustain that allows next to perfect condition removal and high condition application.

The worst part is I really wanted to get into chronomancer because it was described as a high risk high reward mesmer, but it’s not. It’s low risk, high reward and it made me stop playing mesmer entirely. I’ve played 900 games pre hot on mes but I haven’t even cracked the 1k barrier on chrono. It’s too simple, and thinking things through on it, rather than button mashing, makes you play worse.

It’s barely been touched. The reason why it’s so strong has been entirely ignored. Instead ammy removals which have done nothing. It’s still boring to play and its still easy as hell.

Mini chrono rant aside, all professions have this issue. HoT upped the power creep and now it’s over taken a lot. There are theories as to why but that’s irrelevant. It needs to be fixed. Period.

How to beat DH?

Don’t initiate with phase traversal, initiate with an ability that evades like sword 3 or staff 5. Then you’ll pop all of their traps. Try to dodge the spear and play defensively when they pop their shield of courage. Also you can’t rely on Crystal Hibernation since they have a lot od access to unblockable abilities. Use staff 5 or legend swap if you have invocation to get rid of the condis.

You can also bring retribution which makes it way easier.

I think this was a really dumb nerf (not to prec strike that was needed).

Ive played a bunch of matches with it, and honestly it doesn’t prevent me getting from point to point at a super speed. What it does however do, is prevent me from using it to get the unblockable interrupt mid combat but not initiating though. So you can still PT → Surge and knock out a fleeing person BUT you cant PT → Surge if you’re trying to interrupt a skill like Crystal Hybernation. The reason for that is when an enemy starts feeling you got at least 7s to build up that energy if not swap → swap back in time (10s). With that in mind what did that actually accomplish? Nerfing off-hand sword cause that’s where it shined and only where it shined, and annoying pvers I assume.

It was a dumb, dumb nerf. What they could have done to hurt it’s gap closing potential would be decrease the range to 900 and change Unrelenting assault so it has a maximum hit range. But this? This was just dumb. It hurt on point pressure more than gap closing pressure.

In the patch notes it said “Echo of Memory: The recharge of this skill will now begin when Time Echo’s effect ends.” but that’s not a skill or a trait. What is meant by this? Is it Deja Vu?

Why the hell does it have to be impossible to use. There are many questions regarding this skill, none of which will be addressed. But hey it chills and gives fury now so if the great deity of chance allows you to land it you get that small buff

I gained respect. Anet has been treating their game terribly. Mike O’Brien is helping, he fixed a lot of critical pve issues, which I understand are more crucial as it has a higher player base, and fixed skyhammer & spirit watch which are now actually playable.

Argi didn’t really say much though other than he didn’t care about gw2 and a lot of players were leaving it and that should raise red flags for the devs. Cause there is no reason to spend time and in between seasons there is zero reason to even try to be good with unranked aka TEAM DEATHMATCH cause people play like they’re in hotjoin. As the pros have been saying, especially Chaith, there isn’t an incubation for new teams in place right now. Like why would you try to get good if youre in an antisocial environment that’s been designed to be antisocial?

They should make hammer hybrid DPS so some abilities do condis, like the frequently unused 3, but others do pure DPS

Balancing HoT and Core

So they should be equal, not because of the ftp accounts but to allow for build diversity. I, as a revenant, am tired of herald but it’s too strong for me not to take it. If I roll condi, dps or support I need herald cause it helps with all those things with no consequence. Buffing the core wouldn’t work because elite specs include the core so it would buff the elite spec as well. The only real solution I know would be to nerf the elite specs in a way that makes them different from the core specs, like reaper and dragonhunter. Those two need to be balanced between their core and elite variants in shround/virtues respectively.

With out further adieux here are my suggestions:

Chronomancer:
This can be simply fixed by making Continuum Split the f4 and not allowing chronomancers to have diversion as it allows to have an invuln f5.
Reaper:
For reaper, the only thing to do would be to make base shroud stronger than it currently is, or by nerfing reaper shroud. Reaper could take a hit in executioner scythe cd, and a buff in dark path cd.
Tempest:
Tempest is just support. It favours taking water magic rediculously highly for aura share. It really needs a nerf to elemental bastion to stop this and a buff to warhorn/overloads. To make core ele as viable I’d increase base attune swap cds. The current system is alright but it would have to disable all skills and force an attune swap which would be clunky and in turn render overloads useless (unless they were very powerful)
Druid
This doesn’t work with pets, multiple pets not a single one. I hate to say it but pets + druids are a huge problem. How to fix? You only get one pet in druid. This would force the druid to use its new ability to keep its pet alive if it’s dying and when it dies, it’s damage get a hard hit. Staff auto attack also needs a damage reduction as it is as powerful as mesmer gs auto, which has no support.
Daredevil:
Daredevil is a big problem in it’s current state. It’s not OP or anything but it makes core thief super obsolete. DD shouldnt alter dodge and give an extra dodge. If anything core thief should have 3 dodges and dd should have 2, which is my suggestion.
Scrapper:
Again, like daredevil, its a huge problem. The function gyro adds nothing but a huge buff to the engineer. A first step would be to prevent the engineer from reviving/stomping without the gyro. What I would like idealy would be to completely change its ability to allow you use a toolbelt/non-kit utility skill twice, for you at the cost of an extended cooldown.
Dragonhunter:
This ones easy. Just buff core virtues/increase DH virtue cooldowns.
Herald:
Also quite easy. Reduce energy to 50 and nerf facet of nature. It would be “you only get 1 legend” but then legend swap traits wouldn’t work. Doing this would require higher energy management and equilibrium/charged mists would still work as they do at 50% exactly.
Berserker:
I really don’t want to nerf war since it just became moderately viable, but it shouldn’t be hard. Remove core bursts when you have berserker, only allow primal. To compensate for this core one should be made slightly better and berserker mode would be made easier to use (less adrenaline).

I really want these to be balanced, especially the elite specs that do nothing but add to the profession.

PvE Revenant question

Shiro is a great second legend to have but I get it. I honestly like switching it to whatever situation I’m in so I frequently switch legends when I’m out of combat. I’d switch your grandmaster in invocation as well. Hammer is good for pve cause it’s your only ranged option so keep it.

How to actually fix off hand sword

Idk if shackling needs a damage increase. If you’ve been hit by a Dark Pact from a power necro (pre-hot) you know it’s time for ouch town. Immob can really screw someone over.

I don’t want a stun with grasping shadow, ideally it would be a pull, but my work is the easiest for a dev. Basically I’m compromising what I want to hopefully get it in a place it can work first.

How to actually fix off hand sword

The last balance patch or one ago (I don’t remember I didn’t even notice) tried to make off hand sword more viable but didn’t because it didn’t fix the issues preventing it from being good. All that was done was a damage buff. So here’s how to actually fix it:

  • Duelist’s Preparation: nothing is really wrong here except that it has a fatal bug that prevents it from blocking it’s full duration.
  • Shackling Wave: high energy and hard to land. It would make more sense if it was single target with a longer range, say 450.
  • Grasping Shadow: this ones really easy to fix. Increase the range by at least 50. It is impossible to land right now. I would take a large damage nerf just to be able to land it. There’s also the issue of pve/pvp balance (shadowstepping back in pve is a weakness but in PvP its a great strength) but it’s not used in either so fixing it for one would be great.

I don’t think it should be too hard to fix this weapon. It has a lot of potential as a weapon but those issues make it a non-viable option.

And because nothing will actually be done but nerfs exclusively to Revs I’m done with this game, what a shame cause I actually really enjoyed the other aspects of the game (Yes there are more sides of the game aside from PvP). It started getting really depressing lately that with each patch Revenant has been getting nothing but nerfs, no single compensations to the rest of the class that is actually really Underpowered, no a single fix to the multiple bugs they have. Maybe if the nerfs were across all classes it would be different but nah, hate bandwagon is a real thing.

All just to cater to the cancerous pvp players (most of them are but there are exceptions obviously), and it’s really funny cause they don’t even realize that they were the same ones that destroyed DH and still complain about ANET nerfing them. Same things happened with warriors and rangers in fact in the past, actually even many other things.

History repeats itself and will continue to.

Pvp is more sensitive to balance changes. There should be a separate balance, no one is denying that because treating three different game styles with the same balance is dumb but pvp has higher sensitivity to balance.

My wish list:

  1. old Mallyx brought back
  2. Jalis unbugged
  3. herald nerfed
  4. 5 energy to move tablet
  5. more util skills for legends. It doesn’t make sense to be able to swap utility skill sets but having them be hard locked is weird. Glint is sorta locked in but Mallyx could have Call to Torment, Shiro could have Battle Scars, Ventari could have a vine/immob style skills, Jalis a Dwarven Battle Stance…. Just bleh.

I think this is my favourite forum post to date. A lot of great points made. I really hope the devs read this.

As a side point I used to play a lot of mes and rev, I hate the meta for both professions. They’re boring to play

Glint Ruins Rev For Me

I totally agree and have agreed for a while. It’s easily the strongest but also by far the easiest. There isnt much to Glint, but for power there is no alternative really. You never don’t take Glint for power; it’s 12 stacks of might, perma fury, protection and aoe boon duration. The activations are strong/easy to use too…

Its not just you, Glint needs a rework imo

On what exactly? Glint is meant to be a boonbot and does that well.

Well it can do that with f2 easily but that’s a very passive play style. The main issue is that activating facets gives a strong effect with no consequence. For example Facet of Strength gives might for 14s (with the herald trait of +15% boon duration) on a 15s cooldown for the activation. So you can activate it with little consequence, sure your might will go down near the late stages of the cooldown (if you didn’t have facet of nature up) but in a scenario like pvp that doesn’t matter. The same can be said about the rest too. A simple solution would be to increase cooldown time or give an energy cost to the activation.
