Since this is a pvp/wvw issue, shouldnt it be in those forums?

It’s a reward track issue — it applies to the entire game, not just PvP (one forum) or WvW (another).

It performs two actions, dodge and jump, so no.

Technically true — if you want to be scrupulously safe, don’t do it.

In practice, I can’t imagine anyone has even been warned if that’s the only macro they employ. If you do choose to violate this rule, don’t tell anyone about it here (i.e. make it easy for ANet to ignore).

…we have finally settled on a name. C Trahearn Gabriel.

Although we picked it for the sound and meaning and its not spelt the same, it’s another nice connection to the game.

Once again, congratulations.

I hope the grind (e.g. watch how the number of diapers changed quickly adds up faster than your Aurillium used to) leads to good loot (e.g. first solid food (omnomberry?), first word (“meta” probably?), first steps, and, of course, first jumping puzzle).

I agree with the OP: it’s worth including the official descriptions as part of mouse-overs.

I don’t think that ANet or other players should expect that any single source is good enough to help everyone. More hints will always help a lot of folks, even if I generally find them useless (or prefer to figure more on my own).

It turns out that even games praised for their tutorials don’t do a good job of explaining everything nor a good job of explaining key things to everyone. Humans learn differently.

And it also turns out that GW2 is pretty easy to start playing; it takes some effort by many newbies to learn how to play well. And a lot of people are never going to master the game no matter how much help they get from the game (or from other players), while others will jump into raids and find them too easy.

Regardless of ANet’s motivations, as OriOri says, there’s virtually no chance that they are going to change things any time soon.

So the alternatives are:

  • Sell off your mats and grind more gold to buy the Generation 1 legendaries outright. (Alas, won’t work for any HoT legendaries.)
  • Do the Daily Big Spender whenever it comes up. That requires going to your guild hall and buying a Badge of Tribute for 30 Badges of Honor (something you get from AP chests). At 4x per month, that would take 20 months.
  • Do the nearly-no-PvP dailies as they come up. Try to do them several hours after reset, when you are less likely to encounter enemies. These are: Monument (cap a location), Land Claimer (kill one NPC), Guard Killer (kill five NPCs), Veteran (kill one of the three eligible monsters), Caravan (kill a Yak). Probably takes 8-10 weeks depending.
  • Join a zerg. Takes minimum of 6 hours and more likely 15, if you don’t know how to stay alive and maximize your track progress.
  • Join a havoc team. It’s going to be mostly Player-vs-Door or Player-vs-NPC. (You can start one up with other people who hate WvW; it’s surprisingly effective to walk around 5 strong, regardless of whether you know what you’re doing or not.) It’s possible to max a track in 6 hours this way, too, although 12+ is more realistic if you’re new to it and can’t spend more than an hour or two at a time).

tl;dr the alternatives are decent. I recommend:

  • Daily Big Spender — no WvW required, just takes a long time.
  • Other Low Risk Dailies — PvP is unlikely, if you choose the right time. Probably 8-10 weeks.
  • Join or create your havoc team. Even if you avoid fights, a small group can make a lot of reward track progress relatively quickly.

Good luck.

Double-clicking isn’t exactly something that fits the theme of 8-bit platform games, so it doesn’t seem likely that ANet would make this change.

On the other hand, perhaps it would be a lot easier than preventing the glitch that sometimes happens to people. In the meantime, some of the work-arounds include:

  • Use windowed or windowed-full-screen mode and alt-tab
  • Keep a couple of healing pots with you and use one & wait.
  • Wait it out.

Or, as a preventative measure, don’t rush. One person claims that the bug only happens when they are mashing keys and don’t stop after they die. Their theory is that the game hasn’t caught up to the death and is trying to move the character as instructed by the player, so the PC ends up in the wrong spot in Moto’s room. Since the room wasn’t designed for the player moving around, you get glitched and (seemingly) can’t get out of it.

First of all, I always try to find a way to obtain materials I need by myself. Especially materials I’ll need for a longer period of time.

Sure, if that’s your personal preference. Unfortunately, in this game, that might mean you have to grind — gold is a currency that we can use to pay someone else to grind for us.

And secondly, and this is strictly from my personal view, I don’t agree with the price on the Trading post. The difference between pre-Cadalbog price and today’s price is just too big.

I can understand that you might be unwilling to pay the higher price (who doesn’t hate paying retail?). Is that what you mean by “don’t agree?”

Essentially, the market price is set because lots of people are willing to pay a lot more, so it’s a bit like disagreeing with the weather, i.e. it is what it is due to forces beyond our personal control.

Anyhow, I hope that you can reconsider your stance on this particular material — I’d hate for you to burn out on an otherwise fun game because of a low drop-rate on a tradeable item. (There are already many things for which there is no TP alternative and require our endurance to acquire.)

Either way, good luck with your endeavor.

Players pinging their loot

Illconceived Was Na.9781

I think you misunderstood. The poster didn’t make the legendary to get either praise nor envy. They made it because they wanted it and they were proud of their efforts.

So to be proud of their efforts they need to ping the materials and then the legendary in map chat? The part that goes away from simply being proud of their efforts is when it’s stated they “enjoy showing off”.

Again, you’re misunderstanding. When someone is proud of their accomplishment, they like to share their happiness with others. That’s why there’s an age old tradition of parents (usually fathers) handing out cigars to everyone in sight when they learn they have a new child. They don’t have a baby to pass out cigars.

If you don’t think much of the accomplishment, you need do nothing more than ignore the moment — like all moments, it passes quickly.

I completely agree; that type of moment passes very fast, that’s why I said making one for that type of moment really isn’t the best plan.

And again, you’ve confused the moment with the journey and the future. They aren’t making the legendary for the moment — they are making it because they want to; they are simply sharing the moment of triumph.

So, once again, if that doesn’t make sense to you, just ignore it.

Can't earn XP without raid track

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

As I’ve said every time someone brings this up:

  • ANet should adjust things so that raids aren’t a factor for non-raid-related rewards, such as XP→spirit shards. That seems more fair.
  • I believe that they will, the next time the mastery system gets a major update (probably with Expac #2)
  • In the mean time, I think it would be a poor use of ANet resources to invest any energy in worrying about it, never mind changing the system.

It’s almost certainly a temporary situation, brought on by two factors:

  • ANet originally intended that XP would have zero value after maxing masteries. Zip, nadda, zilch.
  • They changed their mind, after we complained (why they thought we’d be okay with getting nothing… dunno).

Because they changed their mind later, we have a kludged system — Central Tyria mastery is easily maxed, but HoT is mixed up with raids (because that’s how it was originally designed, when it didn’t matter).

Besides that, the reward is literally the least that ANet could have offered us — nearly all veterans have more spirit shards than they can ever use.

So, in short: the current system doesn’t feel fair and it’s worth ANet fixing it just to address that.
But, the actual advantage of maxing masteries is so tiny that it seems like it would be a waste for ANet to spend much time worrying about it now. Instead, this is precisely the sort of thing that will be easy-enough to adjust whenever the system gets a revamp, which almost certainly will happen when new masteries are added with a future expansion.

You get them by killing Oakhearts. Even in regular Tyria.

So…I’ve spent an hour killing Oakhearts in Gendarran fields… either I’m extremely unlucky, or it isn’t as simple as it seems. I’ve got zero slivers and a huge urge to burn down the whole map.

I’ll try the HoT metas later today and we’ll see. Meanwhile, the price at Trading post is getting more and more ridiculous… not only a lot of people is doing SAB now, you need two lodestones for a cute super pine tree…that doesn’t help much, I guess.

Why won’t you buy them from the TP? At prices as of this moment:

  • Lodes are running 2.4-2.5 gold
  • Slivers enough to convert to lodes cost 2.3-2.4 gold (i.e. a kitteneaper to buy 16 slivers).

You’re conflating three different things.

  • The cost/effort to create a mixed set of exotic + ascended for the meta
  • The cost/effort to create a fully ascended set for the meta.
  • The cost/effort difference for a viable set for a profession.

Every profession has a power and a condi build option that will work well for nearly all situations. With power, you can go full zerker and use scholar (or even strength) runes — that’s cheap because it’s been around a long time and the mats are common. For condi, the optimal is Viper’s (turns out to be a bad deal in exotics and more sensible for ascended) or there are decent budget variations that are cheaper.

Minstrel + Leadership is a specific sort of build that isn’t needed for most people. Many experienced mesmers recommend that you start with zerker’s and learn the rotations first and then decide if you really want to invest in the variations, which include Minstrel+Leadership, Commander+Leadership, and even Exotics+Platinum Doubloons.

With regard to food, there is no situation in which you need to spend enough on food that those costs are competitive with gearing up — there are always budget variations.

To put it more simply,

  • Always start with a budget build.
  • Only invest in a specific meta build when you really need it (which will be never, for most people).

Or even more simply, “if you have to ask how much it costs to outfit your toon, choose a different build.”

I had to kill more than 100 tigers to finish one of the unlocks for one of the specialization collections. Inconveniently, the drops from commonly-found foes showed up with 2-3 kills, while this one (where there aren’t any more than 4-5 tigers in 2-3 spots on any map) had the worst drop rate.

Why are Surplus Points put into SAB?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Illconceived Was Na.9781

As SlippyCheeze said, it has nothing to do with SAB; it’s a bug related to reward tracks.

There are two work-arounds, neither very convenient:

  • Keep an eye on the reward track and get ready to manually swap on short notice (perhaps during a PvP match — ugh — or during a pause in WvW action).
  • Keep an eye on the reward track and use a potion to top it off when it’s close to completion, so you can manually choose.

Another thing you can do is to invest some potions into a “backup” reward track. For example, say you’re working on Arah and your next goal will be CoE — swap first to CoE, pop 3-4 potions to get the track started, and then swap back to Arah. The game should default to your most-complete track, rather than your most-recently-completed one (or next on the list, which is usually the festival).

tl;dr It’s an annoying “feature” with nothing to do with SAB. There are some ugly work-arounds.

There are already uses for them. The fact that you don’t like the options doesn’t mean that they need to be expanded. Considering you’re not willing to unlock the existing option, I’m not sure why ANet should be willing to expand the offering.

SAB is designed as a primarily stand-alone activity. It’s supposed to be (and is) lots of fun for a lot of people. Does it really have to be rewarding in every possible way?

I would like “Retreat!” to be renamed to “Hurry!” or “Go Go Go!” or even “You go, Girl!” I’d have no problem with “Save Yourselves!” becoming “I’ll Protect You!” or “Look Out!” I agree that the original names aren’t apt.

However, if you don’t like the names, just ask for the names to be changed. Please don’t try to justify the request as if it’s anything more than a strong preference.

If you are immersed in the game’s world, then it should be clear that the names are reasonable for the effects — it just happens that those shouts are also useful in other situations besides the obvious one based on the name.

Neither is it “bad game design” or “added injury.” It’s just awkward, where it could be awesome (or neutral).

$60 for 3 games and an xpac isn’t that bad, even better if you compare with what you got with HoT at the same price.

$15/title for a game that is 12 years old? That looks pretty bad to me, especially since I had no trouble get the same combination for US$40 back when the game was still being actively developed (well, at least, there were adjustments to festivals & GW: Beyond).

Seems to me that $30 would be a “not bad” price, i.e. $10 per ‘campaign’ with the expansion thrown in.

Part of the enthusiasm for SAB comes from its rarity. Make it available all the time and people will grow tired of it. (Even today, the number of people on my lists — friends, guilds, & ohai even block) has far fewer people in SAB than on the 30th.) Even the most hardcore fans can only play it for so long.

Plus, even now, there have been a few thread of people complaining that there wasn’t enough to do.

I’d rather ANet used its limited resources to come up with a summer festival, instead of worrying too much about existing ones.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Yep, the system is really unfriendly for all new guilds. Which is a problem.

Why is it a problem? Why should a new guild be easy to establish? Running a social network well is a lot of work; perhaps it’s better if the incentives are better for joining an established organization rather than re-inventing the wheel.

Nope. That eventually ends up killing any attempts to make new guilds in game. And a game where every community is an old one is a dying game.

I can’t disagree more that it “ends up killing any attempts to make new guilds.” It discourages people from starting guilds for the sake of starting a guild. It encourages people to be ready to commit to the enormous effort that is required to establish a long-lasting social structure.

There are all sorts of guilds, large & small. Not of all them will endure, fewer will thrive. I’d rather see ANet put in effort to making it easier for us to find guildies (or recruits) rather than making it easier to have 100 small guilds when most of the members would be just as happy in 4-5 larger ones.

How to make money from blade shards

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The only use of Blade Shards is to make ascended backs, which are bound.

For ascended backs with core stats, this has sometimes been a cheap alternative source. However, this varies a lot with the market. Currently, it’s not worth it unless you want the skin.

For example, using sell offers, the current market values for backs with zerker stats are:

  • 70g — There with Yakkington: A Traveler’s Tale
  • 101g — Quiver of Swift Flight
  • 82g — Spinal Back (metal variation; leather costs twice that much, although is otherwise identical).

If you infuse using power cores, the spinal back fares better:

  • 157g — There with Yakkington: A Traveler’s Tale
  • 188g — Quiver of Swift Flight
  • 103g — Spinal Back (metal variation), using Synergetic Assault Knight Power Cores

(Of course the infused Mawdrey is cheaper still. However, that requires a laborious scavenger hunt that not everyone enjoys.)

tl;dr no way to make gold from blade shards. However, you could save 50 gold if you need an ascended+infused back with core stats, e.g. zerker’s.

you also got a ton of them from running AB which since everyone has stopped doing it the supply has also dropped.

Even if exactly as many people ran AB as during the peak of AB/ML, the supply would have dropped by 60% or more. (If half of all AB participants went to 6 maps, the decrease would be 75%.)

Thus we shouldn’t be surprised to see price increases for anything that is largely supplied by AB meta nor things that were well-supplied by it (e.g. rares and ecto, both of which have recovered some of their value since last April).

Cosmetic Realization

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Like a lot of currencies, some people find they have more transmutation charges than they can use, some find they have far too few, and many (perhaps most) have trouble understanding that anyone has too many or too few.

For better or worse, ANet decided long ago that cosmetics are a luxury. If I want to chase more and more variations and change frequently, I have to find a way to finance that preference. It turns out, it’s not that hard: PvP/WvW reward tracks, city completions, as well as through the gem shop (where we can go with gold→gems or cash→gems).

In other words, for those who don’t care that much, there are plenty of charges. For those who do care, there’s the gem shop.

So sure, insufficient transmutation charges is an inconvenience to dressing up our toons. But it’s that way to encourage those of us who want more options to play or spend more. That seems like a reasonable design choice.

It’s not unreasonable to want this to be simpler, easier, and/or cheaper. It’s also not unreasonable for ANet to prefer the status quo, unless we can offer them an alternative that is also simpler, easier, and financially as valuable for them.

Oh, I guess the Logan bashing was more of hyperbole; I wasn’t being completely serious.

Which is why I didn’t even address it

I mean obviously Minister Kitten is the reason why bad stuff happened and yes I understand why from a storyline view that the man is clearly even more sociopathic than at first glance.

Except, it’s not clear that he intended his daughter’s death.

As for personal character deaths, well, it does just say you “got defeated” with more practical reasons that your defeats aren’t acutally canon to the story as it’d vary from person to person.

Regardless of the jargon, not only do our character’s never die; they can’t die (or at least, they always return to battle ASAP). They aren’t immortal, just unkillable. That’s true to make the game more fun; the canon to make that happen is shoehorned in (as it is with nearly every modern game).

Similarly, NPCs never die either, if we need them for the story. (There’s only a handful of events that fatally end with the death of an NPC; many escort missions, e.g., allow us to rez the NPC being escorted.)

And yes, I’m left wondering why I’m on a character with several available projectile reflects and even a contraption dedicated to res’ing, but alas that’s impossible to account for.

It was a magic bloodstone bullet. (Plus, not all GW2 objects that are projected by magical or physical force are considered ‘projectiles’ for the purpose of blocking, reflection, or absorption.)

Regardless of the lore or game mechanics, it’s always going to be an odd thing for any character to die.

I think I was more disappointed in the execution.

Yup. At best, it was handled awkwardly.

(Perhaps it doesn’t bother me as much as it bothers you because, well, I expect a certain level of ‘awkward’ whenever there’s a looming contradiction, e.g. some NPCs can die, some can’t.)

I gotta say though, being an NPC must suck, with the lack of plot armor and all.

Yup.

However, the wiki provides the chat-links on each sector’s page, e.g. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Blighted_Depths shows the chat-link [&BOUIAAA=] for the vista there. (The wiki’s vista names are unofficial and are intended to describe what the vista shows.) So while it’s not exactly convenient, it is possible.

(In the API, PoIs, waypoints, and vistas are all subtypes of the “point_of_interest” category of map markers (PoIs themselves are called “landmarks” in the API), so it makes sense that they all function similarly with regards to chat-links.)

Yes, I know that the wiki has the vistas. I’ve used that to help people locate them.

However, that doesn’t do much good when it comes to people who don’t know where to look for the information and it certainly is of no use when it comes to hero challenges.

we get what we get.

This is what is wrong with video games these day. No matter how buggy, how broken, how much was left out, people still defend the game developers.

People will always defend folks against unfair or unreasonable criticism.

For example, video games are commercial products; they cannot possibly succeed just because of the comments of a few fans. There’s no merit to the theory that “what is wrong with video games these days” is correlated with “people …defend[ing] the game developers.”

Honestly, it’s nigh on impossible to account for all the things that might cause an issue for a tiny subset of the community. Everyone uses different hardware, different graphics settings, and each of us has different tolerances.

Where would you recommend that ANet draw the line?

It’s pretty much impossible to justify the death of any NPC in a game where our player characters can ‘die’ an infinite number of times and still finish the story. That’s the price of having a game that’s fun to play.

I’m not a big fan of the details of Demmi’s death, either. All the same, there aren’t too many alternatives. The main point is that her dad is responsible for her death and we get time to hear her last words. The specifics might be unimpressive, but that’s still a good plot twist.

I think it’s a stupid way to get the skins too. I would have liked it if we were able to purchase the skins via the TP

And some hate the idea that there are so many skins that we can just get for gold. ANet tries to balance it out, offering some skins for RNG only, some tradeable, some only by endurance (which some find to be grindy).

It would be nice if it were simple to add more translations to the game. I’m sure there are plenty of Arabic & Japanese and Hindu players that would appreciate it, too. It’s just too costly relative to how much income it would generate.

Suggestions for GW2 from my BDO experience.

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Just so people know…

My second post was because for the past few years I have taken breaks, and during the breaks come back to the forums and made suggestions. The responses were always 1. GW2 does it already, 2. GW2 doesn’t need it. 3. GW2 would need to be completely overhaualed to change. Always the same outcome to my topics, but I honestly forget that over time and need to be reminded.

So in one response to my topic I was quickly reminded that the game just isn’t going to change, and I am looking for change. It’s all good everyone. good luck and have fun!

It’s perfectly human to like what we like; we all have our preferences and we needn’t justify them. There’s only an issue when we try to impose our preferences on the rest of the game’s community, forgetting that we don’t necessarily share our preferences with others.

It seems to me, from reading your initial post and especially your response here, that you just really want to see features/mechanics from other games. You don’t seem to be worried at all about the consequences of doing so, which is what other people are pointing out.

Yes, I’d prefer to be able to select the finishers that are part of the random rotation. (As it stands now, I never use the feature.)

Russian localization

The business proposition is:

  • How much would it cost to translate text into Russian? How much does it add to the cost of developing future content?
  • How many new Russian-reading players would spend money to buy the game?

Translating text is generally a lot more work than most non-translators think (even people who are fluent in multiple languages don’t always realize how difficult translation is). That work would have to continue for the entire life of the game, for each new story, each new skill update, etc, which adds ongoing costs (and time) to development.

And for a business, all that additional effort has to (ahem) translate into new customers. Are there really that many Russian readers who aren’t spending now, but would if the game added Russian localization?

Leather price is killing this small guild

Yep, the system is really unfriendly for all new guilds. Which is a problem.

Why is it a problem? Why should a new guild be easy to establish? Running a social network well is a lot of work; perhaps it’s better if the incentives are better for joining an established organization rather than re-inventing the wheel.

(That said, if that is ANet’s goal, the game could really use some tools for potential guildies to find a guild and vice-versa — it’s hard to find a good fit with looking-for-guild or looking-for-members. Heck it’s even hard to find just which guilds are recruiting.)

Left-handed could be even easier (since there’s a chance it’s “just” a matter of using mirror images of all the animations). Even that, however, would still be so much work it hardly sounds worth it for ANet to consider, let alone attempt to implement.

(And I say that as someone who asked for left-handedness in GW1, too.)

Anet can you please make Mystic Chromatic Ooze last for 1 hour if a user owned a Juggernaut?
I lost my interest on playing after Anet decided to ignore this feedback ,literally unplayable.

Maybe you want to remove the second sentence — the first seems like a reasonable request that many would support.

Saying they “ignored” the idea and claiming that it’s unplayable just makes it look like you’re ranting rather offering constructive feedback.

Can't Collect Fancy Furnature Coins Reset

Illconceived Was Na.9781

The coins spawn after every daily reset, however, when I try to collect the item received icons all show up for the coins but my stack of coins will not update it stays at 163.

Ive missed so many coins from this happening.

Sorry you’re having trouble collecting the furniture coins.

  • Have you tried moving the stack of 163 to the bank?
  • Are you sure you don’t have two stacks of coins in inventory (in which case, only one would grow in size)?
  • Have you opened a support ticket? (That’s the only way to get an individualized response.)

(Additionally, it helps if you take the time to create an in-game /bug report right after you notice the issue; that offers additional game data to the QA team. And they can use that to track down any bugs.)

Black Lion Chest duplicate bug

This bug still persists. It hasn’t been fixed yet

Yup. Some bugs take longer to resolve than others, some are lower priority.

and probably never will.

Probably it will be. The last few quotes on the topic suggest that the devs think they are close to a resolution.

The only “solution” is to open even more chests until the item drops again.

On the contrary, as Inculpatus cedo said above, if you submit a support ticket for a duplicate, the Support team will make the substitution for you.

I guess that’s why they haven’t fixed it, so that people would keep buying keys.

Nope. It’s a bug; they haven’t fixed it because they don’t have a solution for it, which is why Support is making it easy to get replacement keys.
