S/D is the way forward man! I’d recommend S/D to anyone :P
If enjoy D/P but just want a different build, you could try going for 2/6/0/0/6 or a variation if you feel like you really need a reliable condi cleanse.
0/6/2/0/6 is pretty efficient aswell, just less bursty.
0/6/2/0/6 might as well go back to panic. I’ve tried this build before and it really isn’t worth it.
I’d like to see the ‘Revealed’ get a simple timer, either 3 seconds or 4 seconds for both PvP and WvW. Also ‘Shadows Rejuvenation’ is a terrible crutch for newbies to seem competent and what I fear, along with Stealth and the incapability of the majority of players to understand that Invisible does not equal Invincible the reason for many of the hits our class took… I’d happily make a trade where some of the previous nerfs get undone (like the sword #2 return instant, dancing dagger damage etc.) and that trait is nerfed down so that we can’t just keep resetting fights.
It’s just bound to WvW as noone in their right mind would run that deep into SA in PvP, but still.Anyhow…
Just learning thief won’t cut it I fear. You’ll have to learn about every profession really. What are their strengths ad weaknesses, what attacks hurt the most, how do the animations for those look etc.
The sad fact is, is that as a thief, you’ll really have to outplay the majority of your opponents, both through the use of skills and the way you fight. Other classes have an easier time to get the same effect, atleast most of them do.The reason why Thief and Mesmer are both is such a relatively bad spot, is because the average player doesn’t understand squat about them. They can blink in and out of sight, they’re all over the place and they can really mess with your head if you don’t know how to fight them.
As the average player is the vast majority of players, the classes they struggle with will be hit the hardest.
That, along with the fact that even despite the continous nerfs, really good players are still pretty much in godmode on those classes, makes it seem as if any nerf to those classes is completely acceptable.
I kinda disagree about the god mode statement. I’ve seen my fair share of great thieves getting their kitten handled by other well played class. Those people you see on YouTube & streamers on Twitch have all went through what Dave and other dedicated thieves have. The amount of time you have to spent to get all your timing right is just absurd. I’ve even seen famous streamers get cleaned out by other classes without any afford. Not gonna say who though. Let’s just keep in mind that he’s a really good player who’s been in gw for about close to 2years.
What:Hard to Catch
Type: Stun Break Trait
Suggestion: Ground targetable teleport
Why: Because it teleports you to enemy’s Aoe.
What:All Thief Traps
Type:Trap
Suggestion: Throwable Traps
Why: Because Traps are almost useless while in combat(spvp)
What: Sleight Of Hand
Type:Grand Master Trait
Suggestion:Current Skill now with a buff that transfer a condition on you to your foe.
Why: Because almost all thieves uses this awesome trait and it’ll provide another reliable condition removal.
What:Scorpion’s Wire
Type:Utility Trick
Suggestion:Increase Velocity up to 20% more
Why:Inspired by Scorpion from Mortal Kombat
What:Throw Gunk
Type:Stolen Bundle
Suggestion:Throws Smoke Grenande that’s applies blind field on targeted area!
Why: Because I’m trying to blind turrets
Lastly I want a new trait that grants 5seconds of fury per dodge, because furious retaliation sucks. Thrill of the crime is wicked though:3
(edited by Nephrite.6954)
Since they wear blindfolds are they immune to blind? that’s the real question.
All your blinds apply confusion on Revenants only. That’s why they made confusion stack more than 25.
I’d rather place 6 in DA as it promotes more consistent damage. Mug+quick ven+panic s.
Don’t put in too much efford into trying to get a nice stab if they’re kiting you.
@Nephrite
You could stay and continue fighting in which case sb is most definitely the best option for weapons but if you are locked on d/p (due to weapon swap) you can stealth away and wait for ds to expire then come back and kill them in the 10 seconds they don’t have it. Imo, better to just leave and not take ds hits then to chance it by playing on sb.
Obviously genius== other then entering stealth you have to make sure he isn’t controlling the fight. Of course if you’re locked with d/p you can go into stealth, I’m just giving him an a better option facing DS. Trust me I’ve been practicing with my necro friend and shortbow is the way to counter DS.
Lol seems like you’re just suggesting Anet to delete the profession.
Thieves guild!!!
You seriously sound like another scrubby longbow power ranger who’s afraid of getting wiped by a revenant because they can block projectiles with their hammer==
I use sigil of perception whenever I’m confident, bloodlust is something else to go to as well. As for spvp I stick with accuracy and air combo for more raw crits.
I’m personally hoping for a Sniper specialization. Thieves are the only class that can’t hit 1200 range. But if they got rifle you could give them the 1500 range and maybe make it so that they cant uses it within a certain distance (0-450/600). And their utilities and weapon skills could focus on putting distance between them and their target. Plus that would work great with their critical strikes trait line.
I think this would make other profession users cry again and get thief overnerfed again…
I would rather want to see some kind of mainhand/offhand weapon because it would give more diversity(more combo skills/possible builds)
Yeah I vote for diversity as well. It’s likely we’ll only get it in the future.
Shiro is an assassin and thieves are descendants from assassins in gw1.
Well you can cain cc and burst them but you do need to wait until their ds is over. Using dp you can always stealth away and reopen once they exit ds and burst them down in the 10 seconds that they don’t have ds available.
Shortbow while waiting for DS to go down is better because you apply pressure, at the same time saving more initiative compared to x/d or d/p.

Will specialisations be able to wield old weapons?
Mesmers are only going to get a shield off-hand. Do you believe the mesmer specialization will only have two weapon skills?
And if they are able to, will the weapon skills be the same?
In the last years since release, how many skills has ArenaNet added to the game? How many skills do you really think they are going to add in the expansion?
Thanks for the answer!
Will specialisations be able to wield old weapons? And if they are able to, will the weapon skills be the same? Can someone enlighten me? Please.
Keep in mind that all necromancer’s weakness is a good amount of CC. So using the panic strike build will help once they leave DS. Use shortbow and kite them while thyre in DS because they can’t heal. Once they’re out, they’re exposed.

..why are people so in love katanas so much..they were great for cutting down unarmored peasants, but against heavy armor they went dull and broke quite quickly..sorry voicing my opinion here.
== broke quite quickly?! Lol don’t be a joke they were amongst the best piercing swords at its time== I think you’re talking about long swords not being able to penetrate anything. As far a I know Damascus swords and katanas were able the slice a person in half without any real afford at the same time being able to penetrate any plate armor without bending!(it’s almost impossible to be able to pull that off with any common blade)
Please make rifle viable!!! Long live Assassins of Tyria!
Yup I always run basi combined with dev venom mixed up with 6 in deadly arts potent stuff!(quick venoms)
i would put 2 points into sa if that ability wasnt garbage
You’re a meal to condition builds if you don’t.
I’d prefer sleight of hand over bewildering ambush. It’s keeps you flexible.
woooohooooooooooooo!!! hahaha can’t wait to get back!
Wait I can’t get on for a week so please answer me this question. Can we still chain infiltrators signet + steal for maximum range? like chaining shadow steps?
I…actually forgot to test that. But you can still use sword 2 > steal.
sigh awesome. Thank god, I thought they were going to remove that lol
It kinda just works a little bit wierd now. My theory is that the pathing for the shadowstep isn’t a straight line – it’s whatever is the viable path to the target within the range.
For example, during PvP I couldn’t shadowstep up a hill to get at a ranger – I had to go around halfway up the hill and then shadowstep. If I tried from below the cliff, it probably didn’t register.
Pvp map? Kyhlo with the treb you mean?
No, it was in a foefire map. It was one of the home points with a tree by a hill.
Ah I think I know where that is. You can still teleport from under the bridge on kyhlo right?
Holy cat! Shiro!!!!! Long live Cantha!

I’m thinking about using this trap after xpax with the new strong hold I’ll be able to shut down the skrit bombers or any other enemy npc.
Guys can we still chain shadow steps as usual? like Infiltrators strike (sword2) and steal for maximum range? or infil signet + steal? Can’t get on for a week but I can’t wait to know cause it’s one of my favourite parts of being a thief.

Guys I know that eles can take forever to kill but after watching the new borderlands preview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irQ_71ClFqo I thought why not give eles the ability to be immune to the conditions they are attuned in. Something that’s giving them an ability to really control the elements or let them transform into something that’s immune to that specific condition like Revenants instead you’ll turn into this fire form or a fire beast thing that really controls fire and does more burning damage. What cha guys think? lol Avatar with rock armor.
If you go to youtube and search Yishis; he used to make a lot of videos with commentary. He explained why he did what he did and you can learn neat tricks while watching him.
Nah dude d/d is for more advanced players and yishis’s thief videos are kinda outdated in terms of combat.
Pack gives you a few extra seconds to catch your prey btw:) and it’s cheap^^
Dhumm. I wanna be a god!
You know it could just be a ranger ==
Lol shield. Shadow Knight! Okay hold your horses guys, I agree that getting an off hand weapon of any type would be nice because that increases our diversity because of dual skills but like what they said this expansion pack will be the fundamental groundwork for the game meaning we’re going to get new weapons in the future. Plus we don’t even know what the skills for rifle would be, it could be as useful as the engineer’s rifle or worse comes to worse as useless as killshot warrior. Either way we’re getting a rifle Which I think would be awesome if it works.
(edited by Nephrite.6954)
I think I’ll give the build a shot. Dropping shadow’s embrace for once :’(
Wait why 2in trickery again? Why not go with Shadow’s Embrace?
(edited by Nephrite.6954)
Add me cause I love thieves! In guild wars2
I’d go with strength if I could afford it.
It’s not about him being lucky to time evade, ideally you would want to dodge roll something to prevent damage, that mainly factors your own coordination ability (where you have to factor your own 400 ping). It’s very easy to point out that rifle Warrior can hit hard, but look at everything else he cannot do. Thats the reason that weapon set isnt generally used in WvW or SPvP. You said it yourself, it’s not all about 1v1, and more about what you can bring as a whole. That said, in a 1v1, a rifle warrior would lose as he doesnt have the Tools to sustain a longer fight, granted he fights a capable enemy. You lost because you didnt pay attention for a split second, same way zerker class X can kill someone quickly if they dont pay attention or use counter skills.
Surely it must be frustrating taking a one hit KO on your squishy thief, but know that the Warrior alone is kitten.
One more time…
You will not see anyone else while dueling with a person. Or rather, you won’t see them clearly. You will be focused on the enemy in front of you. And a warrior can easily one shot you from 1500 range. A range you won’t be able to see what is he doing. A range where he can literally sit on a wall or a hill which you will not be able to see because you don’t fight while looking at the sky.
Can an elementalist one-shot you from 1500 range? NO.
Can a necromancer one-shot you from 1500 range? NO.
Can a guardian one-shot you from 1500 range? NO.
Can an engineer one-shot you from 1500 range? NO.
Can a ranger one-shot you from 1500 range? NO. (Rapid Fire is not one-shot and gives you enough time to dodge, shadowstep, teleport, pop up invulnerability etc.)
Can a mesmer one-shot you from 1500 range? NO. (He needs to build up his burst through clones first. You still have time to disengage)
Can a thief one-shot you from 1500 range? Well guess what? NO. Why? Because it is still not one-shot and you still have time to pop-out your utility or whatever you have.)All in all, it is widely known that warrior is the easiest class to play thus also known that it is the most played class. And if you are telling me that these 2 classes (warrior and thief) are perfectly balanced againts each other while playing a warrior is easier than playing a thief, then it is not really balanced at all.
I can’t agree with the statement about warriors being in a good spot currently. Yes all classes and OP in the hands of a truly experienced player obviously but right now the meta is not only beating the thief because the warriors are suffering similar faith as well if you take a closer look. In the opinion the easiest class to play right now would either be a power ranger or a cele engi. If you don’t believe me try rolling a warrior in ranked or unranked then you’ll know what I’m trying to inform you. I’ve tried this killshot warrior before and it’s really just a troll build. You can’t really blame him for taking you out with one shot when you’re running such a squishy build.
I’d pick axe over great sword. Connor from ac3 style \o/ get a leap on skill 3 when it’s duel wield.
Looked through the nerf wish list…
The stability has a loose relation to:Originally by: Thedenofsin.7340

Why: As a many necro, the thief mobility its a problem for me. I can kill the thief spamming scepter autoattacks.(https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Thief-requires-serious-redesign/first#post3932590) But the thief come back quickly!!! PLS nerf.
Suggestion: Maybe 3s autostun after a TP, or permasnare or better, quit the shortbow and give the thief a walker or a wheelchair!Thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Thief-requires-serious-redesign

What: Thief Mobility
Why: Isn’t it obvious thieves move too much in combat and teleport and evade all over the place. This makes it hard for other classes to 1shot their health. The solution is simple nerf all of thieves teleports increasing the initiative cost. Also add huge aftercasts to every thief skill so they can be sitting ducks for all the passive no skill classes to kill.:D I hope these people come back to the game to enjoy it now.
Wow those people… Just wow I didn’t even bother to continue reading cause of how predictable they are. These people are seriously wow… Lol I’ve never complained ONCE! About the classes being overpowered but these guys sighs guys I think we’ve found a permanent way to ruin spvp for good. One way that will never be “nerfed”, the Whiners Way.
Ugh I hate long fights that are predictable. It becomes really messy and doesn’t add value to the skills. It’s like the only difference about the skills that are cast are the animations. :/
Nooooo! I wanna rip stability off lich form!!! Arghhhh I’ll miss fearing necros in lich form. So I won’t be able to chain teleports?:’( fish anyone who came up with the nerf.
(edited by Nephrite.6954)
seeing how only medium have it now I dont see a reason a heavy should get it thief/ranger maybe if a light had it they could give it to a heavy to even it out but they dont
Mesmer have stealth just saying or do you mean smoke fields?
Interestingly eles have a smoke field on their underwater weapon (see http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Murky_Water), so technically there is a light profession that has a smoke field…
Sorry i couldnt resist…
Since I was already proven wrong 6 mins earlier you dident have to do it again
and no ranger have no smoke fields only weapon skill stealth =)
Trapper runes and a trait(forgot what’s it called though). Look it up pal
Hahahahalol all new thieves will experience the same situation. Unless if you’re not new to the game of course. Anyway, the important part about being a thief is to know your trait lines like the back of your hand. It’s usually best to let your build synergies with your weapons:) you can of course make up your own builds an improvise a few during your free time but don’t get overwhelmed by it by changing it vigorously. Especially during tough pve levels like fractals. Maybe you can try a few spvp matches to help improve your gameplay with the thief overall. Oh and you can affectively avoid heavy aoe bosses by bringing a sword mainland:)s/d preferably. How? Skill2 infiltrator’s strike/return. Teleport all over the map like a boss bruh8|
