No matter how many times you wish to say this, or how much you want it to be a simple solution, that doesn’t solve the problem with the item in question.
It currently has a 30 minute cooldown. No item/consumable should have a cooldown this high. 5/10 minute is perfectly appropriate.
If your argument is that this is for server stability purposes, i’d like to point out that the number of these even being purchased/used is incredibly low as it is a novelty item. The amount generated per week from killing Xera is lower than those purchased. So they are far from as rampant as the easily obtained Ogre Pet whistle, or Ele Fire Powder.
If you’re going to argue balance, the only place it can be used is PvE/Dungeons/Fractal of which players hardly use portal in two of those locations and the third is intentionally imbalanced.
If you’re going to argue “unique class skill” i’ll point you to the watchwork device and teleportation gun. As well as any of the other consumables that mimic class skills.
So far none of this has caused other classes to miraculously be deleted from your character select screen nor character creation…..
So i’m still failing to see why the immense disdain for a reduction to the cooldown from the 2-3 people here ?
If mesmer portals were actually as potent and game changing as a lot of people are trying to give off the impression here, then I doubt anyone would have quarrels with the cooldown and/or cost for the item as they currently are. This is blown out of proportion, as though mesmers are standing in line to help people cross the leyline gliding gap in Auric Basin or something.
I have yet to see someone give examples in the form of situations (that can also apply to this portal device) where a mesmer’s portal is the absolute winning move to the point that it justifies the current limitations of the bundle.So if the skill is so underwhelming, why desire it so?
What people do and what people can do with mesmer portals are two very different things though wouldn’t you agree?
To deny this automatically removes you from any serious disscussion and shows your strong bias.
Nobody is denying how strong the skill can be except those who feel it would for some reason make mesmers a defunct class if other tools exist for players who for whatever reason don’t have a mesmer around them 24/7 had access to a higher cooldown portal toy.
But just to prove your point, what if the roles were reversed here, i can almost guarentee you’d be begging anet to bring portals cooldown down to earth to be reasonable as opposed to 30 minutes because it’s honestly not worth it for any skill to have a 30 minute cooldown. As is people are being quite rational in asking for a lower cooldown that still respects portal 5/10 minutes isn’t that big a deal and does not pose any harm to everyday gameplay nor does it invalidate a class.
So all these counterpoints that mesmer players want to keep themselves unique is where the greed and inability to keep gameplay health in mind is getting lost. After all a game is meant to be fun, and you’re trying to take that away for the sake of you instead of actual balanced use of consumables.
“Give me your unique class mechanic for cheap or I will call you a greedy and fun-hating person” is not a really good argument. I think Cyninja is actually right and best decision is completely delete this item from the game and refund full cost back to owners.

That is the big difference. on top of that in this case it’s consumables that cost 5-10 gold. Big difference. If someone wants to shell out 10 gold to mimic another classes skill, fine. Making it baseline available to everyone for permanent use, not.
There is very few skills that would have that big an effect on the game if widely spread like portal. All future content would have to be designed with the possibility of multiple portals in a group. Old content would become vastly obsolete. Mesmer can already bypass great amounts of HoT mastery requirements and transport players to places they are supposed to reach later not to mention jumping puzzles.
Stop looking at this from a “I want want want, gimme gimme gimme!” perspective but actualy from a design and health of game perspective if you don’t care about class design and uniquness.
Personally the way this disscussion is headed I would love for arenanet to close this opened bottle. Remove the device, refund players their expense, add similar mechanics to a few classes if they absolutely want more classes to have portal availability. That way this could at least be balanced somewhat.
Oh please spare me the word play. The tools in question do the same thing regardless of the label you place on them.

Really, outside of skipping certain area’s of play what does a portal do that a glider doesnt already, or heck people just using their space bar.
If you want to talk about the health of the game, consumables that are there for fun having a longer cooldown than the skill counter-part is what balances them. But there’s such a thing as overkill when you apply cooldowns. 30minutes is extreme for any item in this game. Limiting to 5 or even 10 minutes still keeps portal unique and doesnt detract from anyone’s perceived “value” as a class. Which i’ve already called out as bunk, because frankly no one brings a “mesmer” strictly for portal, it’s not the only tool a mesmer has available to them and there are already other consumables with shorter cooldowns that accomplish the same thing.

It’s still too close to mesmer, especially for unique class mechanic. Basically, he is asking for pocket mesmer, which is unacceptable. Though, I guess it’s possible to buff one aspect of this toy while nerfing other. Want 1/6 of original CD? Make max portal radius 1/6 too.

This is another case of going from one extreme to the other. Granted we’ve yet to see just how much this extreme case has by comparison. If it has equal content to the previous releases but better quality then sure fine, keep at it. If it has less…. then just stop now and use the system that wasn’t broken instead of trying to redefine the wheel again.

Actually it was quite relevant, what was irrelevant was you trying to make a snide comment about running missions solo.
You can now run missions whenever, without cost. There’s no time at which if a player is online they cannot run missions. Therefore the concept of reset is a joke used to gate people to once a week. You have 7 days to find 1hr a week to complete the missions. If you or the people in your guild can’t do this than the mission timer isn’t the problem.
Except I heard new raiders still can’t find groups to raid with. Thus only fun for a very limited # of players in game.
Yeah, it’s almost as if those limited number of players put time, energy and effort into forming and creating a group to get stuff done. /shrug

I don’t have any custom soundfiles or playlist but for some reason the audio is being pulled incorrectly (Usually the Faren’s Flyer Theme)….

Pugging is hit and miss unless you’re doing it at reset.
I wouldn’t say change it to male.
But do something more fitting than what it currently is.
Sometimes when you kill the white ghost even right on top of the boss, it won’t remove a stack.
Our group noticed this as well.
Another bug we noticed had to deal with the instance not properly resetting and him going instantly into colored ghost phase.
That there’s a “next expansion”.
The seasonal model worked and worked well. The only reasons we had an expansion was to boost sales and cater to the crowd that expected expansions.
If we look at what we have so far from HoT, most if not all of it could have been put out as a normal update much like we had from season 1 & 2.

What makes you think any possible other collections would require LS3. In the twitch videos they state that legendary armor would be available upon conclusion of the raid which is tomorrow.

I said collection 1 will be able to be complete that’s all we know. Additionally given the state of all legendaries it’s a multi-step process of which only step 1 is out and would be able to be completed.
Also if we are going to use “twitch” as our source let us not forget that on twitch they said ad-infinitum the fractal legendary backpiece was to supposed to be able to be completed about a month after launch…..So it’s less than a credible source.
Price is up because the final raid is coming and legendary armor with it. People are buying it up in droves. It will go back down in a few months. No need to screw it up and send it back to vendor value just because some people are inpatient.
Once S3 starts many people will return to the game, increasing the supply. There will be no new raids, thus the demand for new ascended armor will not change and the price will drop.
Except its not coming with it. Collection 1 will be able to be complete, that’s all.

Barely any group synergy. Lack of valuable buffs, not that great dps, conditions need time to ramp up. Reaper is easy to play, but outside of trin and 4 reaper+something buffing setup it’s not that great if you compare with classic rev+war+mesmer+2 tempest setup.

Also when we are talking DPS or Reaper comp compared to the one you listed where in T4 fractals condi builds don’t need the “ramp up time” you claim to break even. Power builds in those fractals are already ~23% less effective due to mob toughness values. Meaning if any builds aren’t pulling their weight its these as they are being mitigated at a far greater rate than condi’s.
Perhaps that’s the reason why I am seeing an increased amount of reapers in T4 fractals? Being not useful gets more usage. Sounds strange…
Because reaper is probably easiest class to play in T4. You can facetank literally everything, minions can make you immune to conditions, you can trait for additional healing as 10% from condi damage, and dps rotation is quite simple.
Still failing to see how any of this makes them useless outside of scale 100….

I prefer when people talk during my raids, if for nothing else i know they are still in it mentally, and are performing their roles.

It is much easier to do that simply because creating legendaries cater to all types of players and will therefore inherently take more time to produce and cost more resources for all to enjoy. In raids developers have more freedom imo because they don’t need to take into account all players and don’t need to make adjustements to how events spawn to complete a collection tied to crafting a legendary. They create raids from the grounds up, except maybe for inclusion of lore from GW1, hence why it is consistent.
Agree to disagree. The scope may be narrower, but it’s about resource allocation at that point. If the teams are as swamped as lead to believe (assuming nothing has changed), then it’s a real hard sell to say 4 isn’t okay here and 5 is okay there.

The old Reddit Q&A mentioned LS3 after raid wing 3’s release.

I mean i can’t verify that, but all we generally run is T4, so its could have come from any of those chest.
To make perfectly clear it did not come out of a boss loot chest at the end but the once a day rewards for achievements.

I think WvW is great currently. The new track system encourages players who stop through for the quick dailies to stay and participate IMO. The server “teams” help low WvW pop servers to actually play with a crowd.
some of those low pop servers were low pop for a reason, and enjoyed their communities and having less people on the map as it made them feel like every action had an impact. Turning everything into T1 & T2 blob may have helped populations but it didn’t help the community aspect at all.
WvW is in a constant state of repair, which is better than the state it’s been in prior to HoT being left for a decaying corpse of a mode.
PvP is still PvP. It’s had improvements, but nothing standout to say it’s greatly improved. Though its always going to have complaints, that’s the nature of any game especially competitive modes.

Did that small time when dungeon rewards were nerfed really pull that many skilled players out of dungeons?
If stealthing through half the dungeon is really a skill…..then we’ve hit a pretty big low.
Considering how much power creep we have in the game, its a lot easier just to face rush and kill everything than waste time on an outdated method.

This doesn’t seem like it’s subject to argument (like most things can be) — a screenshot should settle the issue of whether at least the glow is different from described on the wiki.
In any case, the wiki is independent of the developers — ANet pays to host it and does the technical support; the content and presentation is entirely the decision of the wiki community, i.e. work it out with them.
It’s not entirely independent of the devs. They will often post new sweeping change updates etc. I know Hugh has gone through hoops to make the PvP pages / Map pages as accurate as possible.
