I am going to say that this is a terrible idea because it will make fighting phantasm annoying and unfun.

A better solution is to buff Protected phantasm to 2-3 seconds. It’ll be enough for a phantasm to make one attack, then you use a clone production skill/dodge and then shatter. This will work in large group situation.

Phantasm doesn’t need to immortal.

There is a concept of a tank in gw2. But there are no healers so you have to survive by yourself.

To find a tank role, you have to look for builds that are called bunkers. Their job is to survive as long as possible and/or support nearby allies.

So, not only would the game need to develop “property rights,” farmable land, seeds, the ability to plant and tend the plants and harvesting if in the open so strangers can’t harvest your plants, but they also need to layer on a whole new trading post to sell these items?

Noooo. Don’t think this will happen in a 3 year old game. This sort of thing is in at launch or not at all.

Runescape didn’t have farming until years later.

Okay. You step out of the blind field. Now, you are out of melee range and can’t hit him. Now the solution is to switch to a range weapon. The thief can simply just use heart seeker to be immune to your ranged projectiles. Then, he can go around and back stab you. Then you can’t do dps because he is behind you. Now, he dropped another blind field forcing you to get out of that.

I was just thinking that trap runes could make dragon hunter HiP, so I was thinking maybe berserker could get it’s perfect rune too.

I do not like the idea, because it reliable es the pressure from defwnders, thus removing incentive to continue defending. It breaks up fights, because now defenders would just MO e on, with this idea, instead of continuing a drawn out attack.

Most of the problem with ‘stacking’ is that it removes the mobility aspect of GW2 combat from the game. While claiming that stacking ‘removes/devalues teamplay’ is clearly dumb, some people would prefer to have fights where you constantly have to move, reposition, scatter, respond to likewise scattered threats, and otherwise engage with the fight rather than “stand here – HERE, IN THIS ONE SINGLE SPOT – and hit your rotations, and we’ll all collect loot at the highest possible speed. If you have to dodge, do it, but then get your butt back to THE ONE SPOT as quickly as you can and pick up your rotations.”

That is what’s tired, boring, and not really any better than a trinity fight. if your stack has to move – if you have to try and get all that pooled boon sharing, healing, cleansing, whatever, while also dealing with, say, constant artillery fire or spontaneous magma pools or cleaving ten-foot axe strikes or Space Lasers or some other junk that heavily punishes STATIONARY stacking, you’d have a much better overall game. Groups coordinated enough to stack whilst moving reap the benefits of being awesome, but if you’re not that awesome you’re better off scattering rather than trying to force “stand in each other’kittenboxes in this corner and spam the everlovin’ hell out of everything you’ve got.”

People against stacking are not necessarily against teamplay, methinks. Not the reasonable ones, anyways. What they don’t want is the current bogus, completely stationary horse manure cheesefights wherein you may as well have roots instead of feeties.

Give us more opportunity to use our feeties, and we’ll be good.

I like this post. A lot.

However, there should be a way to punish players always ranging. Make 5 ranging man group as dangerous as five meleeing man group. A mix should be ideal as all professions can range and melee.

1v1 matters and they also don’t matter.

A thief may not excel in 1v1, but in teamfights, they can end it as fast as soon as they appear to the fight.

D/D ele excels in 1v1. However, A second d/d ele appearing to that 1v1 fight would not do much. Their damage isn’t as bursty as thief are, so they most that a second d/d ele will add is making the objectives more defensible and eventually win the battle.

It’s true that the primal bursts have a fast cooldown, and this would make Decapitate “stronk.” But, Berserker needs something “stronk,” because at the moment, it only gives mediocre sidegrade potential. In fact, Berserker hurts Warrior build diversity, because of the necessity of Discipline in all builds, especially in Berserker.

Take a look at the properly functioning elite specializations – Reaper and Chronomancer. Both of these sacrifice a trait line, but in return give a new mechanic that is “stronk” – Reaper Shroud and Continuum Split. Those are game-changers. Right now, Berserk is not a game changer, because most of the primal bursts are mediocre at best, and the decent one (Gunflame) is already set to receive a significant nerf.

Think about it – mainhand axe is the redheaded stepchild of PvP for Warriors, and Berserker makes it even more dubious. The Decapitate burst needs something really awe-inspiring to tempt Warriors into using it.

Solution: Decapitate downed-finisher. A nice Decapitate on a downed foe in the middle of a rez would make all those hotshot Mesmers and Guardians take notice: Don’t kitten with the Berserker.

This isn’t the realm of stronk. This is the realm of stupidly OP.

You are wrong. Autobalancing is a symptom to the real problem. Autobalancing happens because the match was already imbalanced to begin with. You cannot autobalance a 5v5 game. But you can autobalance a 4v5 game(if you are in the smaller team).

The real cancer is team stacking. Players stack to the winning team which is indicated by who lost the first battle + who has the most points. Then one player joins the winning team and ruin the balance of these two teams. People will autobalance because their current team sucks. If they cannot autobalance, they will simply just go to another match.

The second problem is the time it takes to autobalance. Within 20-30 seconds, that team with the most members will have far more advantage than the weaker team. It will be a 5v3 or 4v2 for a while, making the losing team lose even more.

How can we fix this?

  • Reduce points to win at 200. Make it a quicker match. I don’t want to fight up hill battles all the time because my team sucks. At 200 points, the suffering will end quicker.
  • Autobalance either instantly or quicker. 3v5 will hurt the losing team if it continues this way.

The problem still exists that autobalance is too easy to abuse with the current spectator system.

But the issue i foresee with instant autobalance, is that currently there is a “volunteer” effect for players looking for the free win/extra rank points. Those who aren’t paying attention to that, and get autobalanced (instantly) will just leave the team as soon as the game swaps them, creating another autobalance.

The main issue is the Spectator system, with the autobalance abuse being a side-effect

Autobalance exist because teams are imbalanced, not the other way around. You can’t autobalance with a 5v5 even if you try. You can auto-balance in a 4v5.

Autobalance only affects people that are the last to join. If there is a autobalance war, it affect only the people who are looking to stack to the winning team or people attempting to autobalance. With the game ending faster, people will realize that the autobalance war is meaningless.

You wouldn’t believe how easy it is to manipulate, you can make a 5v5 autobalance because of the current mindset of players. If you leave a 5v5 and enter spec, that 4v5 will deteriorate into a 3v5, that will then have an autobalance. When the autobalance occurs, you can “join the winning team” if the player who was autobalanced didnt hit volunteer, there is a good likelihood that they will also go into spectator mode, resulting in another uneven match, which then will either detoriate again, or someone will fill the slot and the autobalanced player will swap back to their original team.

Spectator mode is the primary issue, i’ve said this many times, but with it in place the way it is, you can VERY EASILY abuse the autobalance system. Hitting that volunteer button grants you a guaranteed win, and some extra rank, and depending on the current unbalance, you can force another autobalance and even get BACK onto your original team and still reap all the benefits.

You also have to take into consideration that if the server has 10 people in it (including spectators) it becomes a lower priority for the “play now” button which means that the chances of having an influx of players to join and prevent the autobalance is much lower (not gone, but lower)

1. Dueling can indeed be a useful tool to teach pvp tactics and situational awareness.

2. Public dueling, as a result of it’s need for people to challenge will take place in locations that are heavily populated, i.e. banks, BLTP, crafting tables in major cities.

3. As a result, the increased activity and population added by dueling will tax server resources and induce lag.

4. While the majority of duelers may be polite friendly people, many are not. Anyone who has played WoW or LotRO is familiar with the obnoxious duelers who will not leave a person that doesn’t want to duel them alone.

I vote to remove it from pvp. Or change how it works so that it just redirects damage temporarily.

It would also be nice if killing the ranger pet had a significant impact on the ranger. Nope just swap pets. No biggie. Should daze or stun the ranger when it dies.

Killing the ranger pet has significant impact. The cooldown to swap pets becomes 50 seconds.

You can easily kill a bird pet and give them the penalty.

1. Address how being able to 1v1 in custom arenas or guild halls isn’t somehow giving you everything you need.

2. Explain how beating someone’s butt like a kettle drum in public is a better way to teach pvp skills than a custom arena with privacy.

1. Custom Arenas open up to griefing. There is no protection against griefing. Guild Halls doesn’t allow me to duel with random duelist I come across. I don’t want to duel with just friends, I want to duel with anyone and uninterrupted.

2. By doing 1v1, you can eventually see why that player had killed you. You can see the burst that killed you. You can see the immunity he brings to block all your attacks. You can change tactics to feint or learn how to block the duelist most devastating attacks. It is much more recognizable than a zerg blowing up pixels everywhere.

Your point about not wanting only to duel with your friends is not only valid, but a serious concern to anyone who wants to be good at pvp. After all, we only get better when we face a challenge. However, I don’t follow your point about custom arenas being open to griefing. Perhaps you could explain further?

Your second point about how 1v1 is also an excellent one, as far as being able to figure out tactics and counters. It completely fails to address my point about how doing so in public is at all necessary to the learning process. It fails to address the point that the desire to beat someone down in front of an audience of people that aren’t there for dueling is nothing more than the desire to stroke your e-p in public. Another poster suggested an instanced dueling arena. This would have it’s own dueling rules and everyone there would be there for the express purpose of dueling other players. This is a simple an elegant solution.

How it griefs

Why does a duel need to be private? I can duel if I am waiting for a world boss to spawn, I can duel when one of my party member is afking. I can duel with random passerby if I am bored with the monotony of grinding hearts all day. I don’t understand why you have the need to feel threatened by seeing a duel between players unrelated to you or someone watching you duel with another player. At the end of the day, no one in the public will remember your duel.

Now you tell me, Why should we have gold? I am disgusted by these beggars that whispers to me to give them gold. They harass me, and insult me. Why is ANet not removing gold? You believe harassment is a serious case. Why not remove dungeons too? People can kick me out in the end and I have no choice over it. This is disgusting behavior and should result in dungeons or any challenging content being removed entirely.

You can either believe:

  • This mythical harassment that dueling bring is not a serious problem.

or

  • Remove Dungeons, challenging content, WvW, all of PvP, All of PvE, zerker gear, gold, map chat, say chat, any chat because I get harassed equally or more over there.

For shame, sir. your arguments in the first half of your post were far better. Here, you first compare apples to oranges, then extrapolate to infinity and wrap up with an either/or argument. As to your claim that the dueling harassment is “mythical”, I can assure you it is not. I have played WoW and LotRO both rather extensively and could go on ad nauseam with examples from my own experience.

I am not against the idea of 1v1 pvp without having to worry about some piker trying to interfere. I guess you could say that it’s a matter of zoning. My position is that dueling should occur in areas that are zoned for it, not all over the place.

You don’t like dueling because it brings harassment and the sole reason.

I want to remove gold because it bring harassment and it is the sole reason. No, it is a far better argument, you chose to ignore it. If you want to stop a feature just so you don’t get to be harassed, then I want to remove gold, dungeons, zerk gear, PvE, PvP, WvW, so I don’t get harassed. I can go into any MMORPG: WoW, LotRO, Tera, Guild Wars 2, Ragnarok, Aion and see beggars asking me for gold.

In Trinity games, each role is important, so the player builds around that role which they plan to play in the group.

In GW2 since the only role is DPS, there is no benefit to building around anything other than The Most DPS aka Berserker.

There is currently no reason to stack Healing Power or Toughness in Dungeons and group PvE. Players build around the roles they play. Simple as that. And when your game has only one group role, dont act surprised when everybody builds around that one single role.

I play with Nomad Gear in PvE. As far as I know, it isn’t a DPS gear. Yet, I can complete every dungeon with it.

How this would effect the “community” as people have been concerned about, I don’t know. But at least if you are given the option to duel, or block the offers, then anyone not interested doesn’t have to partake. Those are my suggestions.

I posted this idea a while back somewhere else. I still think it applies.

I am not addressing the technicalities here, but more so the dueling mentality when applied to PvE.

Let’s think a bit on how much an image, title, or even word can change the perception we have of something.

To Kill is one thing, to defeat is another, isn’kitten

I propose, Sparring.

What is the difference? Sparring is almost always between allies or practitioners of a certain skill.

What would be different about Sparring? Simple, when you beat someone else in a spar (If you have ever done a martial art, boxing, MMA etc), there is meant to be a sense of respect for your opponent. After the spar, if they have been knocked down, you help them up. It is good sportsmanship.

in GW2 Sparring, you duel as normal, then after one person is downed, it auto ends. Immediately. The second one of you downs you both turn green, and you an help revive your downed opponent. Not only that, you get bonuses for reviving them, like XP, or a boon which may allow you to do something practical… like movement speed, or a bit of bonus magic find.

Sure, some people will try to abuse it for monetary gain. Though, it would basically be the same as farming mobs for XP in a location, or eating food from the Tp. The Magic find wouldn’t stack is what I’m saying.

To promote this further, you could make it so both people need to be on each other’s friend’s lists to spar. It would only make sense.

Auto decline would really kind of be in practice, as you just don’t add anyone you don’t want a spar request from. BUT just to iron out all possibilities, auto decline can still be a feature which is toggled as default.

Not only that, but there could be certain zones where you aren’t allowed to spar. I.E right outside the spawn point of starter zones, to preserve any difficulty combat effects could bring to such areas in terms of fps and PC.

That is another thing, you could even go as far as to have an option for people not to see other players ONCE they have entered a spar. Sort of like the culling options already in game.

So, what is the issue with that? I’m sure I missed something.

So, just dueling but you can’t stomp them. I’m okay with that.

1. Address how being able to 1v1 in custom arenas or guild halls isn’t somehow giving you everything you need.

2. Explain how beating someone’s butt like a kettle drum in public is a better way to teach pvp skills than a custom arena with privacy.

1. Custom Arenas open up to griefing. There is no protection against griefing. Guild Halls doesn’t allow me to duel with random duelist I come across. I don’t want to duel with just friends, I want to duel with anyone and uninterrupted.

2. By doing 1v1, you can eventually see why that player had killed you. You can see the burst that killed you. You can see the immunity he brings to block all your attacks. You can change tactics to feint or learn how to block the duelist most devastating attacks. It is much more recognizable than a zerg blowing up pixels everywhere.

Now you tell me, Why should we have gold? I am disgusted by these beggars that whispers to me to give them gold. They harass me, and insult me. Why is ANet not removing gold? You believe harassment is a serious case. Why not remove dungeons too? People can kick me out in the end and I have no choice over it. This is disgusting behavior and should result in dungeons or any challenging content being removed entirely.

You can either believe:

  • This mythical harassment that dueling bring is not a serious problem.

or

  • Remove Dungeons, challenging content, WvW, all of PvP, All of PvE, zerker gear, gold, map chat, say chat, any chat because I get harassed equally or more over there.

Player A kills B.

Player C comes out of nowhere and stomp B and kill A.

I think you are making stuff up.

That is my experience, or more so…

Both players stand off, jump up and down.
Player A /bow
Player B /bow
Duel till someone comes along and attacks Player B, Player A stands back and watches Player B destroy the incoming attacker and stomp him.
Player B /bow
Player A /bow
Duel again until Player A is down.
Player B /bow
Player A revives, then /bow
Sometimes: Player A & B discuss tactics.

Most of my duels look nothing like that.

Player A: /bow
Player B:/bow
Player A and player B duel until one of us is half health.

Player C comes out of stealth to gank to get him downed. Then he leaves his downed body alive and let him res up until 90% of his downed hp is there and then attack once to keep him in downed state.

If he fail to do that burst gank, he goes back into stealth and go back into spectator mode until they start dueling again. Then he attempts to ruin the duel again until we start dueling or we leave. If we leave for another server, then he follows and ruin the duel again. His objective isn’t to get a stomp, his objective is to grief. Stalling the duel is good enough to accomplish his task, no need to stomp.

Yes, this is why dueling needs to be implemented and Custom Arenas is not a option.

Poison Master - Don't Fear Buffing It

Poison Master is in a good place. The problem is that it shares traits with our only potent condi removal.

To fix Poison Master, fix Invigorating Bond. Give IB 2 condi removal. By doing so, allows PM to be chosen and IB would actually be useful. The trade off is that you lose Protective Ward.

You are wrong. Autobalancing is a symptom to the real problem. Autobalancing happens because the match was already imbalanced to begin with. You cannot autobalance a 5v5 game. But you can autobalance a 4v5 game(if you are in the smaller team).

The real cancer is team stacking. Players stack to the winning team which is indicated by who lost the first battle + who has the most points. Then one player joins the winning team and ruin the balance of these two teams. People will autobalance because their current team sucks. If they cannot autobalance, they will simply just go to another match.

The second problem is the time it takes to autobalance. Within 20-30 seconds, that team with the most members will have far more advantage than the weaker team. It will be a 5v3 or 4v2 for a while, making the losing team lose even more.

How can we fix this?

  • Reduce points to win at 200. Make it a quicker match. I don’t want to fight up hill battles all the time because my team sucks. At 200 points, the suffering will end quicker.
  • Autobalance either instantly or quicker. 3v5 will hurt the losing team if it continues this way.

The problem still exists that autobalance is too easy to abuse with the current spectator system.

But the issue i foresee with instant autobalance, is that currently there is a “volunteer” effect for players looking for the free win/extra rank points. Those who aren’t paying attention to that, and get autobalanced (instantly) will just leave the team as soon as the game swaps them, creating another autobalance.

The main issue is the Spectator system, with the autobalance abuse being a side-effect

Autobalance exist because teams are imbalanced, not the other way around. You can’t autobalance with a 5v5 even if you try. You can auto-balance in a 4v5.

Autobalance only affects people that are the last to join. If there is a autobalance war, it affect only the people who are looking to stack to the winning team or people attempting to autobalance. With the game ending faster, people will realize that the autobalance war is meaningless.

And you do realize that some of us enjoy playing GW2 because it lacks open world dueling?

ANet wants PvP to be about player skill. Not who has been playing the longest or has the most money. You can’t get that in open world. There’s no way to do that without having everyone have no progression at all. And lack of progression isn’t good for an MMO.

Then you can enjoy playing GW2 by not accepting dueling invite. With dueling implemented, no one has a gun forced on your head to duel with that player.

Open world Dueling can still have player skill. Unlike other MMO, level 80 are downscaled to the level zone. Second, The gear in Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have a big gap unlike other MMO. Plus, the lower level and PvEr not interesting in dueling has the option to not accept dueling invites.

Can you remove the skillshot element of Deflection shot?

I don’t see the point of it. I am going to use this on enemies that are shooting at me. From what I know, Projectiles don’t horizontally curve to go around the deflection shot.

Why the need to take it into PvP into the open world if you don’t want to do open world content?

I don’t mind the open world or its content, but i dont understand the phasing behind the heart of the mists and why we can’t duel in the open world.

Because not everyone likes dueling in the open world and the community that typically brings along.

And the skill sets and gear for PvP and PvE/WvW are completely different. PvP being separate allows for ANet to keep PvP balanced and to where it comes down to the differences in skill levels, not who is richer or who has played longer.

Make Signet of Undeath an elite skill

Realistically, every class should have an elite to match their utility types – making signet of undeath our elite makes sense. The only problem this really creates is that we will need a new utility signet.

First thing: giving every class one elite skill which fits one of their utility types is impossible. Why? All classes have 5 utility classes except one: engineer. Engineers only have 4 utility classes. But well, there is the possibility to give each core class 4 elite skills.
But if you do it for necromancer, you have to do it for the other classes too, don’t just create a new utility signet for necromncer. Much more work as you guess.

Then ANet can add one unsupported elite and healing for Engineers.

Just join the zerker group with whatever gear you want. They will not notice and most of them don’t run gear checks.

I regularly run with soldier and nomad gear and no one notice a thing. There was not a single wipe.

Elementalist don’t have the lockdown + burst.

They have high pressure, high sustain. But they cannot 100-0 in a few seconds.

Fresh Air says “hi”.

What about Fresh Air? Its not even viable anymore.
