you forgot the race change btw
ANet have already said no. You even got an email from them saying as such. Just let it go.
Pffft…
What we do need is /duel and ability for guilds to mutually declare war on each other (and then be able to fight against each other, maybe not in cities though…).
This is a thread about roleplaying, not duels.
The dice always lie…Random does not a story make.
That being said, I’d be all for an official roleplay server or two. The separate rules set that is often requested for names and other things can get in the way though.
Sadly, the moment a server is declared officially RP, every troll on the internet will descend on it and you’ll find very little RP at all. Look at Rift. Tarnished Coast and Piken Square apppear to work perfectly fine as unofficial RP servers.
I agree with most of this, so I’ll +1 it. I don’t think Linux support means much, you don’t game on Linux.
An increasing number of people do game on Linux, so you’re wrong there. However, Linux uses OpenGL whereas GW2 uses DX9. It would require a lot of work to convert the game’s assets to OpenGL which is why even the Mac client is a bit of a workaround (Macs use OpenGL as well) and is not ideal.
For those of us who game on Windows PCs, it’s easy to assume that everyone else does too, but I suspect the release of the awful Windows 8 has probably done more to drive people to Linux than ever before.
There’s also Piken Square if you’re on an EU server. Roleplayers everywhere – you literally can’t move for them.
I think all magic find items should just be deleted to punish those who shamelessly leeched off others for months.
Oh, but what else would you moaning elitists whinge about then?
OP, grow up and stop spamming these stupid race change threads.
You could have the best build in the world and still be useless at playing it. Stats/builds are irrelevant if you have no skill.
What I find funny about these elitists and their claims of having to “carry people through” is that they would like us to believe that they were experts in the game from day one; they rolled a level 80 character with full exotics and an automatic mastery of every dungeon and every boss (even those that have yet to be created by ANet). In other words, they like us to believe that they are the Kim Jong-Il of GW2 – can get 18 holes in one despite never picking up a golf club in their lives!
1 and 2 is exactly why I will never spend real money on gems. Nothing to do with being cheap as YellowFrighten would arrogantly like to suggest, but I have real life commitments and if I’m spending money, I expect something tangible or worthwhile in return.
3 I fully agree with. We need the ability to craft (or buy with in-game currency, not gems) the same town clothing the NPCs already wear.
If my a simple suggestion or question of your gear would make you think “Elitist” then we could only assume you yourself know you aren’t playing your character to its best potential.
“Best potential” as decided by whom? You?
Skills are all that’s important in this game. There’s absolutely no point in having the best specced group around if nobody knows how their toons function properly.
No inspects.
I agree with this. In PvE, if you’re up against four or more mobs and there’s nobody else around, then the downed state is a waste of time anyway, especially with the broken tab-targeting system that will usually target something out of range or a yellow mob.
Just give me an instadeath option.
People are entitled to their beliefs, and are allowed to share them.
Likewise, other people are allowed to counter them, especially if it’s a L2P issue. Anybody who claims a thief is overpowered needs their head seeing to. I have played all classes, and the thief class is right up there with the elementalist in the squishy stakes – one mistake and you’re dead. Skill is essential when playing a thief as well as playing against one.
Many of these ZOMG OP! threads are a simple case of the thread starter not having a clue with regards to playing their own class rather than the opposing class being OP.
Those other games don’t have a personal story.
Nobody? Ah well, dead suggestion is dead.
P.S. GW2 is rated T for TEEN.
In the US perhaps. In the UK it’s rated PEGI 12 and in Germany, where the OP claims he’s from it could be different again if their own censor board has issued a classification.
On another note, if God exists, then he’s been asleep for many millennia. You only need to look at the bloodshed and slaughter carried out in the name of religion and “race” over the years to see that: Holocaust, Rwanda, Yugoslavia, Islamic militancy, Christian militancy, Crusades, etc., etc.
If God exists, he’s not someone I’d want to be worshipping, that’s for sure.

It never ends does it. Who gives a kitten if people use a mesmer portal on JPs. Seriously, explain how that affects you at all in your play style and enjoyment of this game.
For some people, I get the impression that dictating builds and now, even classes is how they enjoy the game!
It only begins to matter when said puzzles begin to offer unique and special rewards. Rewards saying “hey, I beat this crazy hard puzzle and earned this.”
Even then it doesn’t matter. There’s this thing called “teamwork” – something these gate-locking elitists are trying to suppress.
These elitists as far as I can tell simply want the chance to amass all the T7 mats for themselves so they can parade their new gear around Lion’s Arch and expect the rest of us plebs to bow down to them in some sort of admiration. Sorry, this is not that type of game.
ANet set the rules, not some self-appointed, selfish elitists.
Go find another scapegoat, elitists!
All I want is for the small UI setting to not corrupt the text in the TP window.
Amazing, isn’t it? MF will become a non-issue shortly, so these self-appointed elitists are busy scrambling around for another scapegoat to moan/conspiracise about.
Time to roll a Mesmer, I think.
There’s that word, “leeching” again.
if the display showed as small as that (in proportion to the rest) on my screen the text would probably be unreadable (kind of like the TP…)… but a UI scaler would be nice… being able to customise your UI to extensive degrees would be even better
The problem with TP text on the small UI setting is that the internal browser does not employ any antialiasing so the text appears corrupted. If ANet could find some way to force the TP browser to use font aliasing, it would be readable at almost any scale.
I too am surprised there’s no option for this.
I disagree with the WvW names, single guild per account idea and player trade. All player trading did in GW1 was lead to a lot of scamming and endless “I need gold plz” spam in chat.
I run my own guild – it consists of me and my alts (got fed up with being spammed guild invites) and I know people who are in multiple guilds – for RP and PvP purposes. GW1’s one account, one guild system was awful.
No.
Whether the resolution is widescreen or not is irrelevant. I play on the same resolution and the screen can get cluttered pretty quickly. Switching to the small UI scale causes text corruption and unless you have a couple of hundred quid to throw my way, I’m not going to throw out a perfectly good, working monitor just to be able to play a game I’ve already paid good money for.
yh maybe if I would be 12 year old kid and I would be able to play more then 2 hours per day it would be awesome because sometimes I can`t do even daily and somebody tells me go create another profession and spend another 8 months getting what I already achieved in the past , sorry but no I don`t want waste my time ,
Right, so it took you eight months to realise you didn’t like the race you were playing?
Another day, another race change thread. There are a lot of things that are urgently needed – bug fixes, for instance.
Just roll a new character.
Just because the same handful of people keep spamming new mount threads everywhere does not mean they represent the majority.
On top of that, unofficial forums don’t count.
We already have the ability to toggle visibility on headpieces, shoulderpieces and gloves, so why not go all the way with the remaining armour pieces?
For those of you who are concerned that such a move would result in a load of naked players running around, personally I’m convinced that the GW2 community is much more mature than that. Rift features these options and the community there is generally less mature (especially with level chat on), but even there I rarely see anybody running around in their underwear!
Some armour sets simply look better without the boots for example (i.e. the Conjurer set) whilst races like the norn and asura already have NPCs who neither wear boots or chest armour.
No doubt this thread will quickly get buried under all the race change/mounts/raids/duels spam, but I’m hoping it sticks around long enough for other people to share their thoughts – positive or negative.
WHERE’S THE GUILD WARS?! GvG FIGHTS NOW !!!!
Read up on the lore. Guild Wars refers to an event back in Tyria’s history and has nothing to do with GvG.
Raids? There’s other games offering this tired grind mechanic. Thankfully, GW2 isn’t one of them.
The rest of your post is just a rant.
No.
How is this a suggestion?
I support full transparency of spec and gear.
At least partially because the folks against the idea went into full insult mode first here, and in every other thread it has been asked for that I have seen.
I fail to see how raising concerns over elitism and PUG abuse are in any way, an “insult”.
I wish they add inspect.. those useless MF guys
This, on the other hand could be construed as an insult. I wonder how many times those “useless” MF guys have carried you through dungeon runs?
(edited by uknortherner.2670)
Musical instruments are gem store items though, so what you’re suggesting in a roundabout way is a pay-to-win mechanism – You spend real money on a flute, for instance and then other people pay you to play music while you watch a steady stream of gold fill up your wallet.
The only way this idea would be acceptable is if musical instruments were also available for in-game gold, so everyone can take advantage of it.
I think it’d be a nice addition to the game. Not for elitism purposes, but to be able to help out a guildy without him having to link all his gear or even seeing someone who has awesome armor or weapons and not needing to whisper them about it. I’d be able to just see what it is by inspecting.
Wouldn’t transmutation make all that pointless anyway? As far as I’m aware, I can change the look of my armour, yet keep the name and stats of my old one.
It would also take a lot of work. It’s not a simple case of hiding textures, but having to create a huge amount of new, interlocking meshes that have to work with every conceivable customisation option imaginable.
For instance, if you take the torso armour and divide it up into three segments – torso and both arms, you need separate meshes for bare arms, that not only fit with that particular armour piece, but for sake of economy, fit other armour pieces as well. On top of that, you have to do this for all five races and both sexes and retroactively apply it to all PvE and PvP armour skins.
No.
So glad to see some constructive feedback and logic to the replies. Top notch.
I’ve answered threads like this so many times that I’m sick to death of repeating myself. If you want to see my thoughts and reasons why I’m against an inspection option, you can look in one of the other thousand or so threads covering this very topic.
This is why the search function needs fixing.
No.
They’re currently stress-testing:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Culling-Removal-Stress-Tests/first#post2628048
Ah, that makes sense. I noticed that culling was off in Divinity’s Reach when I went there. Much improved – I can actually see other players now!
You can turn this off in your chat options. Just create a chat tab for lions arch which removes NPC dialogue and emotes. Problem solved.
Not really. I don’t want to remove the emotes altogether but just limit their range so that the only emotes I’m picking up are from NPCs and other players in my immediate vicinity.
Culling still seems to be in effect in Lion’s Arch on Piken Square server.
Although I don’t roleplay (though I am on a RP server for immersion purposes) I have to agree. There is no way I should be able to hear /me emotes halfway across Lions Arch!
This has been explained countless times and yet people keep starting new threads on this.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Change-race-order-facility/first
It was on page 2 of this subforum.
I for one have never bothered adding town clothes or styles to any of my alts, because i cant be bothered switching when in outpost, but if it did it automatically, i might be more inclined to style my chars
You do realise you can assign a hotkey to switch between armour and town clothes?
As it stands, I will never pay real money for virtual clothing. There are loads of NPCs in-game wearing town clothing that isn’t available to the player, yet the clothing items available in the Gem Store are so immersion breaking that I don’t even know where to begin.
When I played the beta, I assumed the lack of NPC vendors selling NPC town clothing was simply down to “beta is beta”. I didn’t realise at the time that the town clothing setup would end up being so bare-bones as to be practically useless.
Pretty much sums up all my thoughts..
I wish an ArenaNet dev would read this… or anyone.
Anyone who would “understand” our dilemma .. or concern.
So what about those of us who DON’T want open-world PvP? Who DON’T want to be pwned by elitists and who actually enjoy this game?
Don’t we matter?
Of course not. Not to the gankers who don’t even do basic research before buying a game anyway.
ummm as others were saying just like in every other game with open world pvp if you don’t want to participate don’t flag up if its offered.
Unless I want to be bombarded with duel requests and “dool me brah”-type whispers every five seconds? Besides, as some people have said in the past, they want true-PvP with so safeguards whatsover. Why? Because as I said, they believe that ganking level 1 noobs is the highlight of their lives.
Open world PvP doesn’t even fit in with the lore, but then, the dudebro brigade couldn’t care less about the backstory anyway.
(edited by uknortherner.2670)
I, for one am glad this will never happen in GW2. If you want some unbalanced gank-fest where you kill lvl 1 noobs for the lulz, there’s plenty of other games out there for that.
No.
