I’m worried about knee jerk reactions too. I personally don’t see a problem with it, I think it will help scepter out a lot, but I see the potential for far too much “QQ ZOMG NERF NAOW NECRO TOO OP” and we see repercussion nerfs on things that have nothing to do with scepter. Think I’m wrong? Look back at the history of the Dhuumfire era

Who can realistically afford those out of control gem prices now? Only those rich top few of course. A new player coming into the game and seeing that will be immediately discouraged from even looking at the gem store (I know because I have already had to address this from some new player recruits). When will these prices be brought into check? Where is the limit? Do the developers think this current conversion rate is a fair exchange of time played vs gems rewarded? Discuss (prefferrably without trolling)

I just want to put this out there…this coming beta, necro players are going to be putting reaper under the microscope- as well they should. They will dissect and break this specialization and the class as a whole to it’s foundations. Players are tired of the treatment of the necro class as a whole so be warned, we are’t pulling any punches. I would recommend for the devs working on necros to closely watch how this plays out and not toss out ideas and problems the community finds because it doesn’t fit your ideal necro. As much as you want to keep your initial ideas intact, the end result is what matters and it’s painfully obvious players are unhappy with the current state of the necromancer and potentially the reaper based off of what we have been given so far.

This is the opportunity to turn things around. Don’t pass it up.

I can’t share the concerns over torch. Not saying they are unfounded for those affected but for me it seems pretty freaking powerful. Even for a power build it has uses, and traited- that thing is a monster. So many people under-utilize that pulsing condi cleanse too. If keeping on your target is of concern, guard does have many immobilize options available as well as a teleport. But highly mobile classes like annoying nike warriors or clucker eles are just going to get away.

Throwing in an edit: I would love to see it remove at least 1 condi on activation for #5 for self. I don’t think we should get the full removal, but say you had blind on you, removing 1 condi on activate would fix that.

My idea for shield would be leave #5 as-is but fix the bugs so it’s duration works properly, make it a light field like it should be.

4 can keep the dps portion, but it should also be more supportive instead of just “slap a tad of protection on it, call it a day”.

I imagine #4 working somewhat similar to mace
3 but not as “teh suck” as mace 3. Give it a pulsing protection boon around the guard on a channel, so that if it pulses full duration, the protection is roughly the same duration as now (I still feel it needs longer duration, but that’s debatable I suppose) but give it a secondary feature, you can click it again while channeling to do an aoe burst like mace #3 in case you are getting hit too much and need to stop channeling. Could add a small knockdown in small radius if warranted to further give shield some defensive use (not knockback, just a knockdown). This gives you more flexibility with shield. you’re not wasting it as a solely defensive weapon, but not having a skill on it that has identity issues either. It now has clear purpose: defend me or dps for me

How to fix Spirit Weapons

The sword attacking isn’t too bad right now. I would think 50% speed on any of them is over the top. A perma swiftness boost with the in-combat limitations would be fine though. Their biggest problem is survivability, just like almost every summon besides mesmer clones because who cares if a clone dies in 2 seconds, make 3 more in it’s place. Their damage is not bad, never has been horrible but the durations on them coupled with really long recharges even when traited cripple them and make them highly undesirable.

The shield bubble I think is ok as-is. I know it’s annoying to have it pop behind where you are fighting sometimes, but I’ve also found good uses for that, in that it guards the squishies.

The bow however, it seems to only work when it feels like it, even then…. a single condi removed on a single target every 7 seconds or so…not to mention it thinks it’s a melee dps weapon so it stands directly next to the enemy instead of back like it should.

Nah, bow needs total rework. It needs to have some function much like focus 4- bouncing between allies and foes, removing condis on allies and debuffing foes (I do not think it needs a damaging ability at all though other than any burning it would apply when triated)

Without it though it becomes pointless. Might as well just run a cripple spam, or terrormancer… would be more effective

Doesn’t really matter how you feel about the build anyway, it’s borked now. And reaper is going to feel the lasting effects of this. They had already nerfed the dog kitten out of reaper’s chills this was just icing on the cake. Done with necro for good because I don’t forsee it getting better in the future, only worse from here. Btw those “buffs” we got today were really just fixes that never should have been broken to begin with. You can’t break someone’s tools then glue them back together and tell them you bought them shiny new ones.

Surely though your chill build didn’t rely on Chilling Darkness that much? We really don’t have that many reliable and consistent blinds outside Plague: Deathly Swarm’s projectile is so slow an old lady with a walker could sidestep it, and Well of Darkness was on a monstrous cooldown.

You use the dark fields to blast into, you don’t rely on the darkness well alone but it was a strong staple of the build yes. It set up for the rest of the rotation. Also with this nerf you can no longer blast for the aoe chill, you get 1 target, then realize you wasted a trait spot because it’s worthless

I just lost all faith in their ability to balance this class completely. I had begun second guessing my decision to delete my necro and was about to make another- in fact I just put together a sustainable chill build using just core specs- but now I know I made the right choice. I will not be coming back here again.

…but I cannot do any event worth doing ( like Vinewraith) without crashing near the end and losing all rewards. This happens roughly in the range of 5-15 minutes of gameplay. Before you blame my equipment, I’ve already done all checks with drivers, stress tested memory, cpu, gpu. Temps are constantly monitored, highest I ever get under full load is 54c. I won’t say this is 100% reproducable, but it is very consistent and it is guaranteed to happen during each play session. Lowering graphics settings and tweaking with my gpu settings does nothing. When I view monitor reports (like gpu tweak or similar program) I see the cpu going heavy load but graphics card spiking and plummeting getting progressively worse until the crash. I have tested other games and this same condition never happens. The graphics card usually runs mid-t-high on other games but remains steady and cpu sits around 60% on all 4 cores. Sure would be nice to be able to play and with the expansion coming up I’m worried I wasted my money if it’s not even playable.

The only feedback I can offer is that I feel more constricted by builds than ever before. Yes people have shown some powerful builds we can make, but the way trait lines work now and how they jumbled everything up and forced us to go maxed out in a trait line pretty much means any creative oddball builds are out of the question. Hybrid, in the old sense, is a thing of the past. I am speaking mainly from a wvw perspective. It didn’t seem much different one way or another to me in pve. Tad more healing was about all.
-In WvW it felt good against 1-2 people. Still can’t dominate the fight like I used to but it was sustainable
-Minion build for roaming was good, but then again it always has been for small skirmishes for me anyway.
-condi build seemed useless in every aspect, especially corruption build.
-power build was great in 1v1 or 1v2 but lost all its sustain in the big fights where it counted most. I was melted repeatedly within seconds with no time to react. It was by and far the worst time I have ever had in wvw. Compared to how last week was playing with similar fights I was totally turned off of necro and since I don’t really pve much and not interested in necro for pvp-I have other classes for that- I’m giving up on necro for wvw.
- death magic was decent for smaller fights, but in larger ones, yet again, it fell off fast. It was about the only viable option for good defense though, so no more using soul reaping as a defensive line. Seems like blood and death were the only 2 not completely jumbled beyond reason and even then blood’s sustain for more than 1v3 wasn’t noticeable at all unless you were going for a rezomancer (vampiric aura was really nice, but with so many other necros around me using it I felt like it was just niche and saw no point in using it myself)
It just feels so lackluster, so cramped in it’s playstyle now. I hate having such limited options for my builds. I can’t take a little bit from this trait line, a little from another and find a nice balance and good sustain like I used to. Yes yes blah blah we all know how everyone has found the most awesome builds ever with the new system. Idc, there’s really not that many good ones now and definitely no creative ones. I feel like we’re being forced to take reaper as the specialization or just stick with the limited builds we can find for core.
Edit: almost forgot…STILL no signet passives working in shroud, negating an entire build. GG

This has been the lowest my ping was all day since patch. Most of the day it was over 1k…. Done my usual pingtests and such, my network comes back clean. Just GW2 doing it too, all other online games run fine.

I think they mentioned in the streams that all projectile staff attacks would now have bounces baseline, so while tracking might not come, bounces would be the next best thing. I assume they would work like air auto attacks on ele staff.

Yeah the more I look at my LT idea the more I don’t like it either. I’ll keep rolling around some ideas for it and if I can’t come up with a viable fix for it without making it an op nuke skill I’ll think up a suitable replacement for it.

If I understood it correctly, this is probably the most unique Idea for DS I’ve ever heard. At least in PvP this could actually change how people view necromancers. For pve there’s still the dancing component so you could avoid damage every 10 seconds. Still, being pve based game, I’m doubtful they’ll introduce a system that doesn’t reach even nearly it’s full potential in generic open world encounter.

It would have to be balanced separately for pve, and I’m not one to attempt pve balancing, not really my thing. Perhaps increase LF decay and increase DS recharge or something? Yeah I can see how 10 second shield against braindead meat bags would be a bad thing, but you could still be CC’d which they seem to be introducing a lot more of from those HoT streams I watched. Then again it might be a fair tradeoff because you lose a lot of AoE potential at the cost of sustain and pve is all about AoE. There would have to be some rule made against banishing bosses of course, that would be way over the line. Maybe utilize one of the utility slots I left blank for a skill that gives you a charged up power attack when you leave DS so you can hop in, charge up, hop out, do a burst. Idk, grasping at straws here, I’ll leave the pve to the pve folk.

Confusing to new players. Better slap 15% more Death Shroud and call it a day.

No, but seriously, creative idea. Only things are:

1. What do you mean by “no outside help” for banished targets? No boon sharing or out-heals?

2. We would need to add way more PvP modes and make conquest very optional. DS denying point capping would leave Necro absolutely defenseless and useless for point holding/capping. We could assist at best.

3. It’s…eh, it’s creative and I give you that, but what it can do is basically deny whole pressure. If Warrior activates Rampage, Necro Lich or Thief/Mesmer want to burst you down, you hop into DS and deny them 100%. With outsource healing, it would be walking nightmare.

4. Doesn’t really utilize much of Life Force potential as a resource. And I’m a big fan of using that, or health.

1. Yes they can recieve no outside heals or boons, they can use their own heals though, which would prevent you from doing 100% lockdown.

2. Not able to cap points while fighting is already a necro problem, the only difference here is you can’t sit on the point in DS and cap, much like a thief can’t sit on it in stealth and cap. Don’t forget we still have many resources outside DS to help with on-point cap and popping into DS to absorb a burst wouldn’t ruin the whole cap. With this new DS you would be able to bunker down a point much easier and stall them there far longer so even though you might not be able to on-point cap right away you can still contribute by holding them there. I know this isn’t perfect but the devs are already terrified of a necro with actual sustain so offering this as a good gesture seemed right to me.

3. It wouldn’t be 100% lockdown, they still have many ways to CC us, but that’s also their own tradeoff. Since necros have on ways to chase, they need to decide whether that fight is worth seeing through or run away. Any class can disengage at will so it’s up to them to make that intelligent choice rather than just “pop elite + mash buttons + ? = win” . Moa would also still work to cancel DS like it does now and you’re still limited by how much dmg you can take by life force. It’s not an invuln skill like it sounds, unless the opponent are baddies and just want to button spam for wins. It forces both the necro and the opponent to use some measure of skill.

4. Yeah I agree, I was thinking that the DS trait Armored Shroud could be baselined into DS so that more LF meant more dmg reduction. I didn’t cover it too much though because there’s too much potential for LF use for me to speculate in one post, plus I wanted to see what ideas others came up with. There’s 2 utility slots I didn’t put in that could rely heavily on LF.

Keep in mind I understand this isn’t perfect, but it’s a step in the direction DS needs to go, imo. I tried to keep it balanced enough so that necro retains plenty of risk vs reward while still being effective. Like anything though, it would be subject to tweaking to find a spot that works for everyone. People will QQ their heads off any way you design it when necros get real sustain because they like their free kills the way they are now. But they will also adapt (the good players anyway) and find new ways to counter necros, which is how it should be.

Yeah I did consider that problem with the LT, would need to be something that was ironed out. Consider though that it’s a short duration, when the skill is over it cancels itself. Could perhaps put it on a toggle instead (still have a duration but also toggle-able) also while they are in shadow they recieve no outside help either including condi clears, heals, ect. This isn’t perfect I know, and something I will have to think about more. Perhaps the skill needs a whole new function but i wanted to retain at least one mild AoE skill for DS.

I went kind of harsh for the tradeoff for the necro while in DS and attacking because I think that makes it more fair and easy to balance. Consider that you either have to use DS to sustain, or attack. It would no longer be possible to halfway do both the way we do now. This removes that problem of “scaling sustain vs more foes without also scaling up kill potential”. It removes a lot of AoE play from DS, which I’m sure some people might not like, but it opens up so much more sustain and skilled play. This will raise the difficulty level of paying necro by a lot at first I imagine, but if people give it time to learn the rotation and how to manage DS for sustain vs damage I think it will work out far better than this “wanna-be jack-of-all-trades” DS we have now. It would also allow for condi play with my suggestions which is HUGE for necros since right now it seems DS is kinda pointless for condi builds.

TL;DR version:

Death Shroud-
Assume a spectral form and gain new skills, turning your life force into health. All physical and condition damage negated outside of the shadow plane. This does not apply to CC effects (hard and soft CC)
New skills -
* Life Transfer no longer returns some life force, instead it pulses damage on 5 targets and puts them in shadow attunement with you so you can deal damage for “x seconds”. The damage pulses of this skill lasts only as long as the channel but the shadow attunement is on it’s own timer.
* Utility Slot 1 Banish- banish target to the shadow plane, allowing you to do damage to the target while in Death Shroud but also recieving damage yourself if attacked.
* possible adjustment for balance- This effect consumes 1% Life Force every 2 seconds (on top of the natural LF degen)
* Utility Slot 2 To be determined
* Utility Slot 3 To be determined
Things that now work in DS:
* heal effects from regen boon or allied heals only
* Siphons
* signet passives
* Both of the above does not apply to heal skills which are disabled while in Death Shroud
New trait replacing Unholy Sanctuary-
* Death shroud skills have been changed to mimic underwater Death Shroud form. Gathering plague now functions like Unholy Sanctuary.

These are Baseline changes, not band-aid traits or specializations

It sounds a lot more complex on paper than it does in practice. It wouldn’t be much different than flashing into DS and casting a skill. Most people already do that with DS > doom it’s like they think of both skills as 1. Same thing I’m doing here. it would be DS > banish

A few other changes I thought of and wanted to add.

So siphons currently are not the only mechanic we lack in DS, but also our signets.

  • Signet passives should work in DS, which will bring in some team support play I’ll discuss in a sec. As long as they have not been activated while out of DS, the passives will remain while in DS
  • This will give some team play if we can get a trait that basically turns our DS into a land version of the water DS (with some tweaks to tone it down because water DS is op right now for condi builds). This allows some team play through plague signet passive . The Life Blast would be the underwater version which would transfer out 1 condi per hit. This would replace unholy martyr of course with underwater DS, so the unholy martyr trait could be replaced by this new condi DS trait and the function of UM rolled into the function of gathering plague, giving you life force back per condition (since gathering plague does no damage it can be allowed to regen LF- whereas my new proposed life transfer does do damage and has powerful spike potential with shadow ripple and therefore should not be allowed sustain potential too).
  • As for the sig of vampirism passive, this would have to be disallowed because it counts as a heal skill and would be too op considering you take no dmg in DS under my propsed changes, same for blood fiend. It will not destroy blood fiend but you will recieve no healing from it.

So most of us agree the way DS works is one of the core problems of the class. Here’s some suggestions I’ve though about for a long time that- to me anyway- would alleviate a large chunk of Ds problems without being op and runing the class.

  • During DS you take no damage from physical or condi attacks, but are susceptible to all forms of CC (hard and soft) still. The catch is that while in DS you are in a “shadow attunement” meaing you cannot damage anything that is also not in shadow attunement with you. Bear with me I will explain more of this in a min.
  • Life Force degens as it always has
  • You can regen health while in DS but only through regen boon and ally heals. In other words you cannot throw a well of blood then pop DS and sit in it for full heal. Siphon heals are allowed while in DS.
  • Now to the nitty gritty: While “shadow walking” in “shadow attunement” – hereafter referred to kitten and SA respectively – you can banish targets to the shadow realm with you by a new DS skill that can replace a current DS skill (or hey maybe even give us one for the utility slots now yay!). This allows you to damage them but it also allows them to damage you, but they can recieve no outside help while the two of you are in this “dance of death”. This enables the necro to retain the attrition role and the “fight till one dies” aspect of it the devs want. The damage you take while in DS still goes to your life force so you have to pick your targets wisely and use skill to win the fight before being forced out of DS. note that DS now prevents point captures to prevent SW abuse.
  • Life transfer will change to be an AoE version of the shadow banish skill (however that is implemented, hopefully though a utility slot being used while in DS). This tags up to 5 targets around you for SA, doing damage per tick and holding them in SA with you for the duration of the skill. It will not refill life force as it previously did (poorly I might add).
  • New elite skill- [spectral skill] Shadow Ripple: all DS skills and attacks do more damage to targets attuned to shadow for “x seconds”. While outside DS the necromancer gains life forceThis would have to be a pre-casted skill, casted before going into Ds and have an aura or colored effect so enemy players can know a spike is coming. It will have an appropriate elite cooldown, something like 150 or 170 seconds.
  • All other DS traits work as they previously did unless there’s one you guys think might be too op.

The main focus of these changes is to ensure necros have a viable, renewable, sustain mechanic. With this new DS the necro has enough risk vs reward to prevent it from being the “nuke” skill that makes it op. Remember necro cannot damage anyone unless they are attuned, which now allows the necro to be damaged. They are also still susceptible to CC while in DS just not damage, so they can still be shut down until LF runs out (this would require traits like vital persistence to be removed though and LF degen adjusted accordingly to find a nice middle ground).

The problem with it, is it does not adhere to the duration of the blind. If it chilled for the actual blind duration then it would be more viable beyond Plague like was mentioned above. Then Haunt would actually see some play besides being just a minion spam skill. And since the AoE forms of blind we have are on short duration ticks, if they simply move out of the area of blind they won’t continue to stack up chill either, preventing the trait from becoming too op. necro should be master of chill next to ele because lore wise anyway, ice is their element. With stability spamhounds- aka Revenant- coming soon we’ll need more ways to CC besides fear.

What the title says. When can we get back unobtainable armor like the tribal skins??!?! I was working my kitten off to unlock those before the wardrobe came out in pvp but sadly RNG was never in my favor. now it is forever lost to me as well as those other sins we can no longer obtain! Please PLEASE find ways to work them back into the game that does not require gem store purchases. In case anyone was wondering there is quite an extensive list for gear we can no longer get thanks to the wardrobe/pvp skin changes:

There are also a multitude of weapon skins we can no longer get but no one has put a condensed page on the wiki for them and it would take forever to track each down. One such example would be warden harpoon gun:

FitG stun break FINALLY!
Only took 3 years to get it done but here it is. I still doubt I’ll ever take it for the measly 3 second stab but it’s an option now at least.

On another note, they took away vampiric procs on gates, yet did anyone see them change thieves perma-stealthing off walls???? GG

Underwater flesh golem

They just need to give us an underwater specific minion like an undead eel or something. I can see flesh wurm being land only, I’m fine with that really.
But to only have a single underwater elite it pretty ridiculous, especially when it’s tied mainly to a condi spec .

You’re basically asking for everything the devs said they are not going to give necros: More group buffs and vigor. While these additions would make necro downright op, it’s things they will never give us. And an aoe immobilize? That would make sword one of the best weapons in the game lol. Rangers have to use an elite to do that.

Don’t get me wrong these are amazing ideas and would make necro very powerful, but it would be too powerful and they don’t want necro getting any stronger. The one thing I think you should definitely and very strongly push for though, is a blast finisher on warhorn. Pretty sure we’re the only class that uses warhorn without a blast finisher. I would think wail of doom would be better suited for a blast though

Well, now I am 100% sure I will never use my necro in EotM again, or WvW for that matter. Seems like every patch they “fix” something that was useful there. Guess I’ll just stick to spammy classes and follow the other sheep.

Did her several times this entire week. No problems here. We would interrupt the flight skill as intended and she would not flee. Killed her in t2,3,and 4. Maybe someone knocked her too far off the patrol path and she reset. Happens to a lot of bosses with short leash range.

an easier way to get the weapons achievements done (if you have Eye of the North expansion) is to just craft destroyer weapons. Those can be obtained by simply having the right materials (which you can buy off of merchants/artisans). Since you are only looking to get the points for the credit, it doesn’t really matter if you use tormented or destroyer or oppressor. Get the same credit for each

Just experienced this in PvE as well. I tried multiple ways to prevent losing the stacks on weapon swap, such as running the sigil on every weapon (which the wiki states can be done to prevent losing stacks), running it on only one weapon, swapping slots in the staff I had it in, swapping around between main and offhand on the other set, ect….. Pretty frustrating when you spend all that time and get up to 25 stacks and right before you hit 26 you need to weapon swap for whatever situation and they’re all gone. To me that is a bug, no other chargeable sigil has done this to me. Hope we can get some attention on this and get it fixed. it makes the sigil just as useless as it was before the sigil changes.

Recipe for boxes of zealots?

Is there no way to make a recipe in the mystic toilet for boxes/satchels of zealot’s armor? I just tried with the usual recipe (elonian wine, crystals, chestpiece,mystic coins) and it doesn’t work. Anyone know anything about this?

Just an update, I’m sending it back for a replacement. I was on the phone with their tech guys and they have decided the card is faulty and will replace it for me. I’m thinking of going for an r9 this time though, which they agreed to do for me if I just pay the difference. They said they’ve gotten a lot of returns on this card over the past year, so if you guys have one and it’s working good, count yourselves lucky

doubt its my RAM since this only started happening when I swapped this new card in. My old one never did it. I’ll give that fix a try but from what I’ve seen with my research, this is a very common problem with this card.

Does anyone have an AMD R7 260x card? It appears nearly every driver released for it is crap. I’ve been all over the interwebz trying every driver version from the latest beta back to some several years ago and none seem to work. What’s happening is that I get into the game and about 2-3 mins in the driver hangs up and crashes. I get that notorious “driver has stopped responding and successfully recovered” windows message. Changing game setting has zero effect. The card came stock overclocked so I reduced it as far as I can. No effect. Tried contacting AMD and ASUS, no reply from either of them. Out of options at this point, hoping someone has this card and managed to find stable drivers. Idc if they make the game perform poor as long as I can run it stable.

no, what happened was all unique pieces of gear were deleted and converted to wardrobe, but let’s say you had a few forge daggers on different characters, only 1 would go into wardrobe, but the rest would still sit in your inventory. And that’s what I’m running in to. I still have tons of duplicates sitting around and nothing to do with them

So now that we have wardrobe, and pvp crafting is gone, what is to become of any duplicate skins we had laying around? I can’t salvage them anymore (or is the pvp sal kit still available?), can’t mystic toilet them because I can’t get pvp crafting components anymore….am I really expected to just throw them out? What has everyone else done with their duplicates?

I think it has more to do with something they said not too long ago about how they will begin trimming out features they aren’t developing and are just taking up space….like the personality system.

In order for them to properly implement it they would have to add hundreds of lines of dialogue to each interaction to make it work fluidly and make it worth keeping in the game and they just don’t have the resources for something like that. So sadly, what could have been, most likely never will be
