Is it just me or does the video imply they are going to cull way points?

They’ve already implied that in Entanglement.

Ghosts will only go away within the living story if the speculation turns out to be true and happens. Everything else will remain the same. Zhaitan died, and the corruption lifted, but you still see risen all over the place.

That’s different. The risen weren’t being kept alive by a curse or anything. Once the curse is lifted, every ascalonian ghost goes poof.

They’re not going to eliminate an entire set of enemies for the living story which will affect everything within that region.

That’s a bad defense when we still have a destroyed Lion’s Arch.

There’s no reason they may not be doing things that permanently affect the game world. Ghosts can be replaced by whatever Mordremoth’s minions are.

What will this have to do with Mordremoth?
I’m curious!

Well at about :15 seconds, you can see Mordy tendrils (the big thick kind) in the background of an Ascalon area (can’t place the area off the top of my head).

There’s actually a clue to this already. There’s one in Lornar’s Pass, at Lost Delver’s Ridge.

Now, I haven’t done map exploration in a long time (which is why I was there), but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t there before. Plus, it looks identical to the one on the Dry Top Waypoint. There is definitely something that’s going to happen in Lornar’s Pass.

I’m really confused… does it mean Ascalon will be freed from the ghosts?
Any lore-expert who can explain what that curse is/was? I only know some pieces of the story because I’ve never played GW1 extensively.

PS: Rytlock uses the sword from that ghost king dude, right?
That place looks a bit like a bloodstone.. or is it just some Ascalonian ruin?

Really excited :O

Basically, my understanding is that after your character leaves Ascalon in GW1, King Adelbern continues the fight against that Charr without his son/your party. Eventually, he gets his kitten kicked and the Charr win. During the final battle, when Adelbern is on his last leg, he decides to kitten all of Ascalon by casting the Foefire with his sword, of which only two still exist from ancient times (his, and the one Rurik had/Rytlock now has). Fiery Dragon Swords are actually replicas of this sword. The actual events of this final battle are unclear, as the Charr and the Humans have differing stories as to how it went down, so there’s no real way for us as players to know for certain. In GW1 you are not there for the end. All that’s known for certain is that Adelburn, either in his rage, despair, and/or last desperate measure, cast the Foefire.

By causing the Foefire, now those that died in Ascalon’s ultimately fruitless war now walk Ascalon as ghosts, not really knowing that they are indeed ghosts.

The rumor is that the only way for the Foefire to end, and therefore ending the curse and removing the ghosts, is for the true heir of Ascalon to return. This person actually exists in GW2’s world, though I forget his name off the top of my head.

This video implies that there is actually another way to end the Foefire, perhaps with the use of the twin of Adelburn’s destroyed sword that Rytlock owns.

The only expansion GW1 had was EotN, which was sizably smaller than both Factions and Nightfall (they were pretty much their own standalone games…with a standalone game pricetag)

Take it as you will, its not a paid expansion, which is probably what people are confusing for accumulative content patches.

They’re standalone expansions, not games. They still use every core feature and mechanic from the main game, but you’re not required to own the main game. They’re still expansions.

And like it or not, EOTN was a very sizable expansion, especially in comparison to these small living story patches.

Will there be a new playable race?

in Living World

Posted by: Polantaris.9513

Polantaris.9513

Well if they plan on “an expansions worth of content” they better plan on adding a new race.

Oh that opens the world of argument as to what is an expansion.

An expansion that is not the size of Factions, Nightfall, or Eye of the North in Guild Wars 1 would be an utter disappointment. We have two entire continents of lore that was brought to life in Guild Wars 1, and neither of them are explored even remotely outside of vague references by very random characters.

There’s also the Far Shiverpeaks, as well as the Crystal Desert that can be explored as part of expansions. There’s way too much of the Guild Wars world to continue this “Here’s a tiny little sliver of Tyria revealed!” nonsense. If there is not an expansion in the works, including a new class or two, a new race or two, new skills, new weapon types, etc., then they will never be able to keep their player base.

The Living Story stuff is nice, but it will not continue to bring players back. There is still a diminishing player base, and the only way to solve that is to actually add something new outside of a tiny map and a few events.

Event loot worth $250. Details inside

Polantaris.9513

I really don’t understand. People complained because the Halloween event didn’t drop good enough loot. They complained because the one time Halloween event was “just” a cut scene.

Guess what? Anet apparently listened. They gave us a 3 hour long event AND decent rewards. Yet this STILL isn’t good enough!

I have seen posts where people were online and didn’t go to the event because they thought it was going to be lame and then they are griping because they would have gone if they knew the loot would be good. Sheesh!

I was there for the three hours, the lag, the disconnects, the deaths to invisible things because of culling issues. I didn’t get a precursor. I am still having to farm. Big deal! It’s a game.

It is like complaining that your neighbor won the lottery and you didn’t when you didn’t even buy a ticket! You shouldn’t get free stuff if you weren’t there. Sorry you weren’t there. If you think that an item in game is worth $250 but you had to go to work and miss the event, then I guess you should have skipped work unless you get paid more than $250 a day.

Anet can’t win! No, it wasn’t a perfectly implemented event. But they did seem to take in feedback from the Halloween event. Some people are just never happy and wouldn’t be even if Anet sent them a free precursor in the mail. Then it would be “I didn’t get the one I wanted. I got the one that is flowers and rainbows but I wanted the other one.”

People who complained about the event even though they were online are truly fools. That I can agree on 100%. There was no reason not to go to the finale if you were online and able.

Your lottery example is highly flawed. Lotteries give at least a day, or more, to buy a ticket. Even if you are not there for the drawing, you still can win as long as you have a ticket. Here, even if you attended every other event (obtaining the ticket), but missed the finale (drawing), you’re completely screwed.

I don’t remember people complaining that the one-time Halloween event was pointless, I remember people complaining that the dungeon it unlocked was. The rewards were mediocre at best. They were sad that the one-time event was little more than a cutscene, but I don’t remember complaining that it was not giving out free crap. I remember complaining that the dungeon gave out crap.

Overall the concept of a one-time event is stupid for an MMO. This has been discussed plenty of times all over these forums in the past few days and there’s really no reason to disagree. Even if you got on, you experienced massive lag, disconnection issues, and all kinds of other problems. How ANet used to do events, back in GW1, were always the better way to go. Everyone was able to attend, and because they were multiple times over the day there was no excuse if you missed it outside of “Someone ran me over on the road and I was in the hospital all day,” or a situation similar to Hurricane Sandy (Which I think was handled well enough by ANet). To prevent chest exploit they could easily implement a 1-per-account policy. They have a 1-per-character policy already on many event chests. It’s not hard to adapt that to an account wide restriction.

Number 1 – No, they did not. A fair chance would be a 24 hour period of the event going on every 3 hours. Plenty of time for a lot more people to participate. Will everyone get a chance? No, but one solid 24 hour period for an event is where I can comfortably draw the line and say they tried to please the masses. And the technical issues were half of the problems in the first place.

That involves server infrastructure and other crap I’m not going to debate cause it’s irrelevant to the issue. The fact is they have servers on only one timezone. So everyone has to play during the hours they set and deemed the most populated statistically speaking.

Uh, what? No it doesn’t. How does the server timezone have anything to do with it at all? Everyone knows what is qualified as 12:00 Midnight on the server, 0:00 GMT. It’s very easy to translate that into a 24 hour period in which the event is available to you.

I thought I’d just bring out this little side note:

To all the people who are arguing that the $250 in loot concept is void because you cannot make actual money….you can. Gold sellers are also gold buyers, always have been. Yes, it’s a bannable offense to take part in such a trade, however that doesn’t stop people. With the $200 – $250 you would make from such a trade you could re-buy the game if you wanted to if you were to get banned.

The 200-250g you could make from this single chest could easily pay for the game three to four times over.

Don’t get me wrong, I do not condone such an action, I’m merely stating the fact that it could, and likely has, easily happened.

Also, stop using the term RNG like it’s some end-all term that defines everything that could ever happen at any point in time. It’s honestly rather annoying.

So let me ask you Hermes what would be so wrong with having this event run on say… a 5 hour or so loop so more people can experience it at some point?

That wouldn’t stop people from complaining about the people who can attend every one of those events as well. They still end up with more.

It’s a game kitten Grow up. Do you complain because they give out prizes at some baseball games as well? Do you really think people who have season tickets will complain when they can’t go to a game, but at that game, they gave out free hats or some other bs? No… Why? because they’re not babies.

Actually, there is a way to prevent that. ANet has already done it. Remember the Halloween event, where after the first day, you could only open chests in the Labyrinth once a day? Well this event only ran one day.

Everyone who is complaining about the precursors should go look at the Trading post because all the precursors have been halved in price. This was a good thing for everyone, even the people who couldn’t participate.

Halving the already ridiculously high price does nothing for people who are not already rich. At 200g or 100g or even 50g, I don’t expect to ever be able to afford a Precursor in the next year because I cannot play all the time, or even most of the time. Essentially, this event(and potentially similar events in the future) would be the only way I, and many others, would get a Precursor while they are still relevant.

Of course, the next one-time event won’t give Precursors, and it will be a giant middle finger to the people who happen to be able to get online that time but either got unlucky and didn’t get one this time or missed the event completely due to schedules or other issues.

I understand your frustration, however you were given the opportunity to join the event. They said it would be a big one time only event. I didn’t get a precurser but good for those that did. I think the bigger issue is the RNG for getting them at all. There should be a way to get it without the gamble. I wouldn’t mind putting more work into getting it if I was guarenteed to get it. Some people burn through alot with no luck, while some get it without even trying. That is whats not right, not that people got an increased chance to get it from a one time only special event that everyone was aware of.

Yes, because the other one-time events gave any type of hint that it would even be worth our time. The one-time event during the Halloween events was literally nothing. The first two for this event gave no rewards out of the ordinary. 3/3 “waste of times.” There was no reason at all to even think that the event would be anything other than flashy, like the other “You don’t want to miss it!” events.

Even if I had gotten there and gotten a precursor myself, there has been absolutely nothing about these one-time events that I can commend. They have been a waste of time 3/4 times, a lag fest 3/4 times, and they screwed a lot of people on the last one.
I like the new content, I loved the Southsun Cove area, but these one-time events need to stop.

Are you supposed to make phase 2 solo?

in The Lost Shores

Polantaris.9513

Sorry, but is this really intentional? You got kicked out, when the event starts and when you log in, than you are alone in a overflow server, where you have to play the events of phase 2? (Kill the Karak at the beach, go further south, make a camp and so on?)

I did try to run to the point, where the event of phase 3 takes place, but the bridge isn’t build yet.

How is one player supposed to make the quest of phase 2? Champions Kraka solo? And will the phase 3 easy to do solo?

This probably ends at the end of the Lost Shores event:

My friend and I realized yesterday that when you first go to the new map, you get sent to an instanced version of it to experience the beginning portion where they start taking the island and building camps. Once that’s done, you can go to the normal map. You may be able to skip it, I do not know. I doubt it will be like this once the Lost Shores event ends, so if no one else is around you might have to wait until its over.

People got a precursor from the finale?

Now I’m sorry but that’s bullkitten. I was at the kick off event, and had a horrible time because of the lag. I hear all kinds of complaints about the second event about lag as well, but I missed it because I overslept (I work nights, so 3PM EST is terrible for me). At what point would someone waste time and screw up their schedule and show up for the finale when they couldn’t do the first two properly? That’s just ridiculous. ANet did nothing but terrible for the first two main events and to expect the third one to magically be better when it’s only a day later is expecting far too much. To essentially punish people for realizing this is insane.

To top it off, Anet has enough Oceanic players complaining about the events being in the middle of the night for them…this is just certainly going to make everything better!

Usually I’m against all the ANet bashing of late, but giving out precursors to a one time event that they have a record of 0/2 performing in the total of the event? Come on. Just asking for problems.

Elely has one in the FOCUS. (I use a scepter/Focus, on a Earth condition based build.

Ah I forgot about eles, but meanwhile they’re forced to use Focus when they have no ability to switch weapons in a fight, which kind of cripples you if you don’t like/use Focus.

But yes, it’s there. 3/8 classes aren’t completely screwed on the first Young Kakra they see.

By extension of that, what if you aggro another one right after? Or they respawn? Or any of a hundred things happen during the cooldown? Eat 8-9,000 damage, which in some classes is half or more of their HP? How is that remotely balanced?

Also, learn to dodge. I’m not trying to come across as an ?sshole, I’m just saying that it’s a helpful tactic in this particular fight.

Yes, you can dodge…but there’s also a ton of other things that need dodging. And once again, what about extra mobs? What if you just spent your stamina dodging other attacks, or the tons of other things that Kakra can do that do way too much damage?

If you’re fighting them back-to-back that’s when you pop your elite skill, or run away and reset. It’s hard to do with the pumped up respawn rates in some areas, but try to plan your fights in advance and know the safe areas ahead of time. Again, this is just a part of the Guild Wars games — anyone that played GW1 will be familiar with this type of play.

If you’re getting way overwhelmed, adopt the buddy system. You don’t necessarily need a zerg or a full party. I’ve completed most of the zone with one friend of mine, watching each others’ backs. He plays a warrior; when I wasn’t playing with him, I was playing with a necromancer, and we also did just fine. If you really cannot handle it, bring a friend. Two people can take on most of the zone together if they play well and avoid the adults.

I was never saying I was having an issue. At all. I’m fine, I’ve been playing and enjoying the new area since the start. I was pointing out some issues in the mechanics.

I hate that EVERYONE instantly assumes that a complaint means that you suck and have issues with whatever you’re complaining about. You can’t just simply have a genuine complaint and think that the way something is set up is dumb.

To top it off, every time it’s about mechanics, people go “It was this way in GW1, anyone who played GW1 should be familiar with this.” Uhm, no. There was no respawning in GW1. You always had safe ground you could retreat to. In this new area the respawn is so bad that that’s going to make your life 10x worse. This area has no such thing as safe zones. If you clear out a mob, by the time you need to retreat from the next one, that first has respawned. To make things worse, the Veteran Kakras have such a gigantic view range that they see you at least twice the distance from regular monsters, but there’s monsters at the normal frequency as well. That’s another thing that didn’t happen in GW1. Don’t try to pull the “GW1 did this” bullkitten on me, it doesn’t work. The game is not an exact clone of GW1 in mechanics, stop trying to act like it is.

People have been complaining that they hit too hard with their spit attack. It might just be because I’m a guardian and have easy access to projectile reflect attacks, but I have no trouble with them at all. (I’m not a bunker build, I’m in junk gear with 11k hp and 2.2k armor.)

They usually open the fight with their ranged spit attack thing (which is what eats your health), so as soon as you see them charge that up (takes about 0.5 to 1 seconds) hit any sort of shield or reflect ability. You’ll take very little/no damage, and if you can reflect projectiles you’ll damage them instead.

After that attack is gone they won’t use it again for another 15-20 seconds, by which time they’ll probably be dead. They deal very manageable damage once that’s out of the way.

I personally thought that a lot more people would be doing that than there apparently are. When I hear stories about engineers and warriors eating pavement four seconds into karka fights it makes me worried. If anyone else has any tips (regardless of how common sense they might be) then please post them here so that others have an easier time.

Yeah outside of Mesmer and Guardian, I don’t think anyone else has access to an instant reflection ability like that, let alone one at all. Other classes shouldn’t get shredded just because one or two, or even potentially three, can protect against it while the rest have to eat the damage (Which is a ton, it takes like 8k away from me).

We’re aware of the disconnection problems in the Fractals dungeons that you’re experiencing. The team is working to fix the issues.

We apologize for the impact to your experience of this content.

You didn’t answer the important question. What about not being to enter the same dungeon your group is in after u dc? Even if u fix the current dc in the dungeon people will still dc. So, will we be able to go back into the same dungeon?

I’m pretty sure that qualifies as a “disconnection problem.” Not saying that I know that they are, but part of the issue with disconnecting is that you cannot get back into your own fractal, which in my opinion qualifies as a disconnection problem. People are going to disconnect regardless, so I don’t think “We’re working on making sure you never ever disconnect” is really a valid problem that they can fix.

Event lag [Merged]

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Polantaris.9513

Polantaris.9513

The thing is, I don’t really blame anet’s server team for this. Even Blizzard doesn’t do events like this, you know why? Because there’s not a server system in existance that can handle that much stuff at once.

WoW tried this ONCE. Years and years ago, a large server-wide event to open the AQ gates, culminating in a one-time event in one zone. Every single server that ran the event crashed without fail.

I mean, I give anet props for reaching high. It looked like it would have been a pretty neat event if it was playable. It’s just inexperience showing trying to run something like this, when history has shown we don’t have the server technology to handle it.

The thing is Anet have managed it in GW1. They regularly had events which encouraged everyone to be in the same place at the same time and I never saw lag like this.

They managed it by limiting each map to a certain number of players and creating new instances as needed which new arrivals were automatically added to. Basically every server had an infinate number of overflows which increased or decreased as needed.

I don’t understand why they didn’t do the same thing with this game.

GW1’s events were never combat situations. Ever. They were funky little events where you did client based things like emotes. All the combat based events were very small instances like PVP games.

The problem, I think, was that while the regular, non-overflow servers have population caps, from my understanding the overflow servers do not. As a result, since they cannot possibly have infinite overflow servers, LA eventually hit an excessive amount of players and the lag went to insane levels.

I agree that this is why you don’t do mass one-time events. There’s no possible way to have the bandwidth, and potentially processing power, to handle all that data. The people that are posting their specs…it never had anything to do with your computer. The only thing that would matter from your side is your connection speed, but even so I doubt anyone who had at least 1MB/sec would have issues. It has to deal with the fact that ANet could not have possibly processed all the changes from the thousands upon thousands upon thousands of players, NPCs, and enemies all at once like that.

Anyone sort of want this to happen to GW2 PVE....

in Suggestions

Gotta say, I disagree entirely.

I often play single player, but like that I run into other people on the map. It was one of the biggest issues I had with Guild Wars 1, I was always on my own and never met anyone. Fun game, but not social enough for me. I love how I can just run around and run into people, and rarely have to LFG for DE’s and quests. Of course that changes with dungeons, and I’d like a better LFG tool for that.

I also think that the leveling system in Guild Wars 2 is near perfect.

Well. I ran into 4-5 guys today on my low level thief account… but each meeting it ended with us going on our separate ways. I mean, people were “curteous” to say hi and smile… but usually the socializing part just ends at that – “unless you guys want to get the same SP or DE or complete the same heart”. But most of the time our “progress are different” – so it ends up usually with people parting ways.

If you make no obligation to group with people, then that’s your fault.

Why would you want to completely remove one of the most important aspects of this game? The co-op. Your suggestion at the top of the thread is to take the multiplayer co-op section of the game, and throw it out the window because you want a solo experience. That’s just stupid, this game is an MMO for a reason.

2. Be more transparent about all the events coming up. Put a calendar online, and in the game showing upcoming events and times. Even if it just says, “World event!” with a time, that would be enough for people to look months down the line and book time off, or whatever.

There’s one serious issue with this…

You think people are complaining now…but wait until they put up some event in 3+ months on it, then for some reason it needs to be delayed. The massive amount of crying and complaining will be far beyond what’s going on right now, especially if people took off work for it.

So is it going to change or do I have to do things an hour earlier? What the hell… kitten Anet

Did I miss the update notes somewhere?

Here’s an interesting solution….

If you do your dallies at the same time, the end result is the same. If you started at 7pm EST in the past, and do that still, you’ll still complete all your dallies. The only issue is if you started at like 6pm or something, and as a result your dallies are cut off in the middle, but even then…if you did them from 6pm – 8pm in the past, you’ll still have two hours each day, it’s just that each day will be split in half.

I do my dallies at 8pm. This doesn’t really effect me at all. It really shouldn’t even if you do yours at 7pm, or even 6pm. If you start at 6pm and end at 8pm, then you still have two hours each day.

I will say the only things I find annoying if you’re not running something like “Shake It Off!” is the occasional MINUTE LONG CRIPPLE. I had it on me once and was just limping around long after whatever it was that caused it (a gorilla maybe?) was dead. Part of me found it hilarious that I was just stumping along for such a length of time, but the other part of me was like, sweet Jebus, is that necessary?

Risen Hylek with minute+ long Poison is the same deal.

The first time I went to Sparkfly Fen and ran into a group of Risen Hylek, after I was done, I went into my Kitchen, grabbed a snack, grabbed a soda, came back, and I was still in Poison for another 35 seconds. I couldn’t decide what snack I wanted either, so I was in the kitchen for at least a minute.

Thankfully as a Warrior I have something like 500HP/sec with Healing Signet and the Toughness Trait combined, or I would have died. That’s how excessive it is. Conditions should not keep you in combat, or they should at least recover faster when you should be out of combat.

That is a complaint I’ve voiced in game for a while now, because the duration stacking abilities combined with the excessive duration on Risen monsters makes you stuck in combat for far too long with no ability to do anything, either because you can’t move around, or you’re in Poison or something similar and cannot heal.

Elite vs Utility Skills

I feel like some Elites are crap, and would rather they be slightly weaker Utility skills or just buffed.

For example, the 30 point Elementalist Elite, Twister…seems completely worthless outside of the Stability. I definitely don’t think it’s worth 30 skill points at all. Yes, it gives Stability, but outside of that it does bad damage (in my opinion), and the abilities are pretty bland. Now my Elementalist isn’t 80, and maybe that’s effecting my opinion, but overall I found it an utter waste of 30 skill points, and such a shame because I was looking forward to it. Being the only 30 skill point base Elementalist elite is a huge disappointment. I make significantly more use out of the Fiery Greatsword than I do Twister.

My point is some of us will miss every one-time event if the timing of all future one-time events will be the same time on a Sunday.

I thought it was a weekend long event…or is there another special section of said event on Sunday? I don’t remember reading that but I could have missed it.

Quick Question: Lionguard Armor

Are you able to obtain Lionguard armor for your characters?

I ran into an Asuran Lionguard, and I absolutely loved the look of the armor. I was curious if I could obtain it, however I could not find a Cultural Armor seller in Lion’s Arch. Am I just blind, or is the armor unobtainable? Or is it actually something else?

The armor I’m asking about, if there’s multiple types, is the set the Asuran Lionguard wear in Metrica Province. There’s a fort around the middle of the map with Lionguards all over the place, and they wear a pretty decent looking set.

Even if it’s not called Lionguard Armor, I was wondering if it was obtainable.

What I see when I read this is three things:

1) “Bro, so I was in Eternal Battlegrounds and I was all killing mobs off on my own. All of a sudden a player came and ganked me while I was fighting a mob. Why is this even allowed? I was doing PvE! I wasn’t even there to PvP!”

2) “Yesterday I was in our Borderlands and I was just roaming around trying to grab material nodes. Every 5 minutes, though, someone killed me. Please ban them because I didn’t even go there to PvP!”

3) “Um, ANet, can you please help? I went to the Borderlands to get my missing Vistas. When I got there I got killed trying to enter the enemy’s keeps so I could snag the Vistas. This is clearly griefing because they refuse to let me into their keeps so I can get my Vista. Ban them. Thanks.”

Seriously. Get real, guys.

None of those are even in this thread. If they are, they’re not on topic.

We run one-time events at the time where we have the highest concurrency.

hmmm thanks for the input, but this sentence doesn’t make any sense.

but still thanks for the added input

He’s basically saying, “The one-time events are planned to run when the most people are online so that the most people can take advantage of it.”

Unfortunately the nature of having a short time event is that not everyone will be able to participate due to other things in life.

The problem is that if you want to make the world seem realistic and like it’s actually alive, a “world changing event” can’t be over a month, or even a week. It kind of hurts the realistic factor when it goes on for so long, so they picked the best time for people to be able to participate. It sucks but that’s what they’re driving for and as a result not everyone will be able to experience it.

@Veldan;
Stability only lasts so long, and no class can keep it up all the time, and especially not as long as there are mobs in your way. If you wait for Cooldown, the mobs you just killed will respawn long before your stability recovers because Orr respawn times are insanely small.

Besides, Stability should not be a REQUIRED ability. It should be helpful, it should be usable in situations that call for it. Every single trash mob is not a situation that calls for Stability. When every single trash mob has some sort of ability that you need Stability for, there’s a serious issue.

There’s a reason most MMO’s don’t give crowd control abilities to minions (or trash mobs). Those mobs nearly always come in groups and giving them all abilities like this makes the game more annoying than fun. This is one area I think they should learn from other MMO’s and tone it down a bit…

I think Anet did learn, with GW1 and still gave mobs abilities and gladly so…

Personally, these abilities spice PvE more and prevent rushing careless through maps or some farming methods – GW1 is a good example of this like souldonkey.9534 pointed out.

If anything, i wouldn’t want PvE to be more dumbed down.. like other MMO’s

Here’s the thing…it’s not dumbing down to make the abilities more fair.
99% of abilities that enemies used in GW1 were abilities you yourself had available to you. There were very rare exceptions and unless the monster in question was a Boss or otherwise supposed to be difficult, they were not game-breaking like this is.
Why do Hammer Risen get a 5 second knockdown on me when mine lasts a second if that? Why can they spam said ability every 10 seconds when mine is about a minute cooldown? Why can I get pulled every 15 seconds when my own pulling ability doesn’t have remotely that low recharge?

This isn’t complaining because we want to rush through the map and have no difficulty, it’s complaining because the enemy abilities are unfair. They have complete advantage when it comes to durations. If you want to complain that the enemies attack too slowly and that’s why…there’s a solution to that. There’s no reason Risen should walk up to you and attack once every 5 seconds. There’s no reason that to make up for that their status effects should last 5x as long as mine do and have 5x less cooldown. Every third attack on a Hammer mob shouldn’t be a knockdown for 5 seconds.

Like I said myself earlier, I had no problem fighting everything that showed up to fight me…until they started breaking the rules and having this kind of unfair advantage.

hopefully the PVE people will hurry up and stop taking up slots in WvW if they don’t want to PVP so the rest of us can get in without having to wait for them to finish harvesting onions and mining iron ore.

Yeah that’s never going to happen so long as World Completion requires WvW.

I don’t mean to be rude, but if you have a situation where people don’t know who you are in your guild, especially when you’re a major influence in said guild, then your guild is either:
A) Recruiting way too many random people with no obligations or reasons for them to care about your guild.
OR
B) Not as tightly knit as you like to claim.

I personally am in 4 guilds myself. I have a similar situation to someone who posted early in this thread.
I have a forum guild, a guild built off of a group of people on another forum for another game. We all got the game and decided to make a guild.
I have two guilds joined because of friends
And I have a “Main” guild that I joined because of it’s activity and size.

I was in my Main guild for two days, and everyone already knew me. We have great conversations, we party, we WvW (even though I’m not a fan of it, I join it to play with them), and we have fun. If any of my other guilds have people on and I’m bored, I switch over. They all know me too. They PM me about stuff too, even when I’m not representing. I’m not even that active in 2/4, and 1 I’m less active in ever since I joined my current Main guild.

Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with the guild system if you use it right. If you just go around and invite any shmuck off the street, you shouldn’t be surprised when people have no idea who you are.

The only other contributing factor to your issues is Character Names. If you have several characters with completely different names, you can run into issues where they do not know who you are when you attempt to contact them. How do I get around this issue? I use something that Guild Wars 1 forced: A surname (Okay, it didn’t really ENFORCE it, but it required two words/names in your character names, something they abandoned in GW2). All of my characters have the same surname. This has really worked wonders. I’ve never had someone, even someone I talked to very little, wonder who I am in my guilds, because my name sticks out.

I’m sorry but I don’t see your problem at all.

Why Orr brings out the worst in the "community"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I remember doing a Champion with two random people in Malchor’s. During the 15 minute or so fight, about 10 people passed us and dropped their mob on us simply to get to the Ori Vein nearby. These mobs included a ton of hammer and pull mobs, as well as Veteran Abominations and the like.

In the end, we died, while the Champion had so little health left that his health bar wasn’t visible at all anymore. There was no red left. Needless to say I called out everyone who passed us by name in Map chat. Surprisingly, a lot of people were on my side saying that it was ridiculous that so many people did that. Seriously…what the hell.

I do not doubt for a second that Orr brings out the worst in people due to it’s terrible mobs.

I do have to say, I don’t mind Orr as much as many of the players here. However, there is one thing that annoys the holy crap out of me: the unbelievably excessive snares, knockdowns, and roots. It’s not annoying in the sense of “Oh this is so hard, I can’t beat it”. No, in the end you still come out victorious. Instead, it’s annoying in the sense of unhooking your computer tower, throwing it out the window and taking up a life of Amish tech-celibacy.

If I had one request for Orr, it would be to reconsider the excessiveness of those conditions. I do not feel like they add challenge to my gameplay, only severe annoyance.

If by snares you mean the idiotic pulls from those Risen with the miner’s axes, I completely agree with you 100%.

My single worst problem with Orr is that their knockdowns last FOREVER. I can knockdown with Hammer skills that apparently are supposed to last for at least 2 seconds, sometimes more, and see the enemy get up instantly (I feel like this is a bug, otherwise what the hell), yet the Hammer Risen can knock you down for 5+ seconds. If there’s two? Don’t bother trying to fight unless you want to tear your eyes out. If there’s three or more? GG, you’re dead because you will never get a chance to attack.

The Orr areas are interesting. I kind of wish there were more events (it never seems like there’s enough unless you’re with “the Zerg”), and I missed Renown Hearts, but honestly, nothing is more annoying about Orr than the regular monsters and their cheap bullcrap. I used to fight everything I ran into prior to hitting Risen. When I’m at Risen areas, I run as fast as I can to get away from them, because they’re simply not fun to fight.

I’m looking forward to more 80 content, and looking forward to no Risen in said 80 content.

Isn’t it an anchor? but anyways yeah it is annoying….

I wasn’t sure what he meant by Snares, so I took a shot in the dark.

Chances are I’ll agree with him 100% regardless, because Risen in general are awful with their abilities.

15 slot? Do you know that the runes cost? They still want people to buy gems and trade them into gold and runes for 15 slot bag cost 50 silver. It is a bit too much. Even clock tower only had that slippers which are worth only a few silver if you sell them to npc.

Everyone has 4 bag slots. Giving away 1 20 slot bag for free would do nothing to the economy at all.

Now I’ll probably get hate for this, but if you remember when you picked the servers there were only “North American Servers” and “European Servers”. I don’t remember “Oceanic Servers” as selections. Considering this, having it at a time on Sunday which can fit for both NA and EU Servers seems decent.

The game was distributed and sold (officially, not as gray imports) in Australia and it defaults to North American servers. No warning on the box that some events may not be conducive to your timezone. Your argument is invalid.

No, it’s not. They officially sold it anywhere they knew it would sell because it would…I don’t know, sell? Money is money. If they know it will sell somewhere, why not?

The concept of there being no servers for your region automatically implies that events may not be suitable for your region. That’s like if I complained that the events for a JP MMO wasn’t suitable for me in America, it’s illogical. The game was set up with American and European servers. If you’re outside of those regions, to expect the events to be catered to you is stupid.

Now I agree that they should be doing events multiple times and their reasoning for not doing it is stupid. However, since they’ve made that decision, expecting the event to cater to Oceanic players instead of the players the servers were meant for (NA, EU), regardless of where the game was sold, is stupid.

No matter when they put it, there would have been issues.

I agree that it should have had multiple run times, perhaps 3 times, 8 hours apart, over the day.

With them being set to this one time period, no matter what they did they would have had issues, and if they kept it Wednesday…I have a feeling they would have had a bigger mass of complaints with the coming Hurricane to the East Coast. It’s supposed to hit where I live Tuesday into Wednesday, which would mean that many people in the East Coast would have had no power for the event, thus missing it.

No matter how you do it, you’ll be having issues.

Now I’ll probably get hate for this, but if you remember when you picked the servers there were only “North American Servers” and “European Servers”. I don’t remember “Oceanic Servers” as selections. Considering this, having it at a time on Sunday which can fit for both NA and EU Servers seems decent. Yes, I get that there are Oceanic players, but there’s also Korean players. What about them? The only reason you don’t see them complaining here is because this is an English forum. If they are so set on this “One time event” deal, no matter how you look at it, regardless of when they put it, people will be annoyed.

Yes, I agree that there should have been multiple times, but since they don’t want to do that, there’s absolutely nothing that anyone can do with that limitation to make every single person happy.

Edit: Before anyone says I’m happy because I live in the East Coast and therefore can view the event…I work nights, which means I have to disrupt my own schedule and thus screw up my Sunday night work to view the event. It’s not good for me either, but I’m thinking outside of just myself.

This happened to me as well due to Deborah dying before the cutscene.

Also, there’s an issue with the Tanks (not sure if recent or not), that causes them to be unable to be used. When trying to use them they bug out, teleporting you all over the place, then kick you off of their mechanics. It took me about 15 deaths to kill the giants because everything that infinitely spawns also Stuns/KOs like crazy. Was not remotely fun to then have this issue with Deborah.

Annoying Sound Bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Polantaris.9513

Hey everyone,

Thanks for continuing to give us details about this bug! I just checked with one of our programmers, and he’s still hard at working tracking this one down; I’ve passed on the information about the sound slider reducing the chances of it happening as well.

As before, please let us know if you find an exact way to consistently reproduce this issue, especially if you find a way to do it outside of a huge group of people.

Thank you for your patience and understanding; we’ll continue to work on this one and update as more information comes in.

It essentially seems to occur only when there’s a large amount of sound effects going off at once. I get it every time I do Claw of Jormag, or am involved in a large WvW battle 100% of the time. It really sucks because it’s hard to play with no sound, however there’s absolutely no way to stop it without turning off the game. If we have to quit to fix it, we lose our place in WvW if we are in it.

A workaround suggestion, at least until the issue is fixed: Let us reset the sound buffer. Honestly to me it sounds like it is crashing, or otherwise breaking. If we can reset it without resetting the game, it would at least help alleviate serious issues caused by this. Perhaps just a button in the Sound Options would be sufficient.

Edit: A thought just occurred to me: Perhaps old sound drivers are the cause? I shall try to update mine and see if it does anything.

Edit 2: No luck updating my drivers, apparently they’re already up to date.

We Need Paid Server Transfers

in WvW

Posted by: Polantaris.9513

Polantaris.9513

The problem is that there doesn’t seem to be a good way to ensure balance if they were to stop the free transfers. Give a deadline for free transfers, and people will all make last minute switches to the “winning” server, and as a result there will be a huge imbalance in populations.

If you keep it free, this issue where people switch around all the time will continue.

Incentives to switch…what would those be? I agree there needs to be a reason for people to choose less populated servers to balance out populations, however there’s not really much you can offer people that won’t cause a swarm and thus re-imbalance the populations, and/or cause people to go on a crying spree about how ANet is unfair again because they didn’t get some reward for switching because people switched too fast if it was a good incentive.

Honestly World Transfers should have been free for one week after launch. Once the game launched and the servers stabilized, there wasn’t really much reason to keep free transfers in my opinion, that I know of. I don’t remember this server hopping thing happening until recently, when the 1 week matches started.

@Anyone giving the “You can’t say you want 100% without exploring WvW!” argument:
What about Dungeons and SPvP, which doesn’t count towards the achievement? Those don’t count but WvW does? WvW is in the Mists, however Dungeons are in the actual world itself. It makes no sense.

World Completion is mostly a pure PvE goal. PvP players already need to do plenty of PvE for that. If they were already willing to play PvE for it then something additional (if any) shouldn’t be a problem.
I understand people may want that star to their name. I’m all for showing a star in WvW for WvW Completion and showing a star in PvE for PvE Completion.
Legendaries can have increased PvP requirements to compensate.

I’ve got to say, saying that PvPers should be used to it as they already have to do loads of PvE is a bit of a cop out.

This whole situation has come about because certain people insist they must get the world completion. Will that magically change once there are 2 world completion achievements instead of 1? Will these people, who are so focused on this arbitrary achievement that they brave the WvW zones which they hate and ask for the game to be redesigned to suit them, suddenly think “Meh, I don’t want that achievement so that’s fine!”?

The problem is that in GW1, World Exploration was just that, the world. It wasn’t the Mists, which is what WvW is in. Not only that, when you start the World Completion, you are given the impression that it is what you see when you press M on a normal PvE map. Not this special section that you cannot see at all and don’t even know exists until way later (because how many PvErs are going WvWing at Lv.2?).

PvEers are not going into World Completion expecting to have to do WvW. When you hit that 92-93%, and then realize you need to do WvW when that’s not something you enjoy…it’s extremely disappointing. You spent countless hours doing an achievement that seems to be completely PvE, then suddenly the game goes “NOPE! SCREW YOU! GET TO WVW!”

To add to it, why do you need to do the same exact area three times? What’s the point in that? If the triple Borderlands maps were shared as one map for World Completion, it would probably lessen this entire issue by a huge margin. Combined between the three Borderlands, you can get the entire map if they were to be shared without ever venturing out of your World’s territory (unless your World is getting slaughtered, at which point you just come back later). If your World is one of the higher “tier” worlds, there will never be a situation where you are able to explore the entire map. There are almost always sections that are fluctuating far too often to be able to get them without spending a long time in WvW, somewhere you do not want to be, wasting queue and space.

From there, only Eternal Borderlands would be an issue, but that map isn’t really that large and is easier than the other three in terms of 100%ing. I believe this entire situation would be a ton easier to dismiss with your attitude if it didn’t require an excessive amount of time and queue wasting.

Here’s the biggest issue: WvW is almost always full. You can’t even see the WvW map unless you are in WvW. This means that you have to waste time continually going in and out of WvW and hope that your side has the sections of the map you need. This is another example of bad game design. You don’t even get told how long you can expect to wait, and even if you have someone inside who tells you that what you need is good to be explored…by the time you actually get inside there’s a large chance it could be lost again.

These are all valid complaints, things I’ve seen multiple times in every time this type of thread has shown itself, and I’ve yet to see it countered in a logical, reasonable way. It’s always an insult, an attack, or just plain ignoring, but the points remain there and they remain valid.

+5 Arms Trait for Warriors gives “33% Chance to Cause Bleeding with Critical Hits”.

Does this ability stack with the Sigil on Weapons that has a similar effect? The Superior Version is: “60% Chance on Critical: Bleeding (5 seconds)” (Superior Sigil of the Earth).

Also, if you have two weapons, one in each hand, does having this sigil in both weapons DOUBLE the effect? As in, 2x 60% chance to cause Bleeding on Criticals? Does it only effect which weapon does the attack? What if both weapons attack in an attack (Like the Thief Sword + Dagger combo skills)?

Any help on this would be great, thanks.

Can I get 100% world achievement for just the WvW area then please? I do not enjoy mindlessly grinding out hearts, so I shouldn’t have to.

Is that the right line of QQ to match yours, granted it is not as wordy, but I think I got the gist.

It has nothing to do with "QQ"ing. It has to do with the fact that it forces people who do not want to WvW to WvW, doing nothing but waste space and give free kills to the enemies. Contrary to (apparently) popular belief, there are a lot people who do not want to PvP or WvW in GW2. The game has a very fleshed out and huge PvE section, and a lot of people enjoy it.

But, since you want it, I’m going to grab every PvEr I know, and we’re all going to join the Borderlands areas, and we’re all going to sit around and just go “We’re waiting for us to start winning so that we can get all the PoIs/Skill Points/Vistas.” Would that make you happy? Enjoy losing horribly because too many people who don’t give a crap about WvW are wasting time and queue so that they can get 100% Completion.

I don’t understand how this is such a hard concept, and I don’t understand how people can instantly be branded “QQing” and all the other things you’ve branded PvE players because they don’t want to play something they don’t enjoy just so that they can finish something they started way back when their character was Level 2 (Which, by the way, has nothing to do with WvW in the first place).
