And GL with high lvl Fractals or Arah EXP in beserker Gear lol.

if you say so.

I do, have fun in your downed state.

You just need more practice.

I do just fine with 3 Valk pieces at 38, but okay I’ll practice more.

I do Fractal 38 regularly in full Berserker Gear, and I’ve done every path of Arah in Berserker Gear as well. Yeah, things hurt, and in the formers case, 1 shots can be common. But with reaction time, dodging, and knowledge of visibility ques on said attacks, I rarely die.

To each their own; not impossible but speaking on experience, not for everyone either. I personally like letting my dodges/timings dictate my downed state, then stacking defensive stats.

It's been over two months.

I wouldent call that minor

It is to me, as a WvW player 90% of the time all of my attacks hit.

A lot of mesmers have dropped Greatsword because of it. When the strongest ability on the weapon does 3000-4000 less damage, it tends to be a deal breaker. I really hope they fix this in the next patch.

Mesmer in PvE right now

I do tons of burst damage (second only to thieves and maybe the occasional rifle warrior) while providing my party with helpful utilities and spells, like Null Field, Feedback, Timewarp, and Chaos Storm.

I’ve played at least 4 or 5 specs in PvE, and I feel mesmers are in a very good place right now.

Are we overpowered?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Aylaine.1036

Aylaine.1036

Mesmers aren’t. What it is, really, is that 90% of our class abilities and mechanics actually work reliably. We have a few bugged traits, and skills. Other then that, everything else is nicely balanced around the mesmers skill or the other players, usually both. What I notice from other classes is, they don’t have a lot of working parts, a lot of buggy abilities or broken traits, and just feel incomplete. Part of what makes Mesmer feel so awesome to play is how everything syncs together when you do everything right. As other classes, I noticed that a few hiccups in a similar process with that classes main mechanic would diminish the end result, to where it just felt much worse to play.

Finally, we have certain things only we can do. Things like Portal and Time Warp, for example. These are cool, exclusive feeling abilities. What other classes need, besides to be brought up to our level of balance and internal synergy (within their skills/traits/class mechanic) is special abilities only that class can bring to the table. Fun, useful abilities which benefit you & your entire party. Some already have it, but with people crying that every class should have a portal skill, it’s not enough. I personally feel if other classes were given such staples that pertain to their mechanics, that would be a very good step in the right direction.

I would invest whatever is left into a private charity guild that hosts free guild missions.

What aren't Mesmers good at?

Aylaine.1036

I have to disagree with the bad damage comments. I do a lot of spike damage, and very good sustained damage in a 20/20/0/30 Spec. The trick is phantasm management between shatters. I rarely have classes pulling aggro from me besides warrior, and even then if I start using daze/mirror image bursts I can grab it here and there. If specced for it, we have some of the strongest spike damage in my experience. While if you go for a phantasm build, you can have really high sustained damage, specially if you roll with offhand sword.

On topic though, we do have a tough time with AoE, and outside of mantras, our condition removal isn’t the best. Null Field is amazing but most builds need those 3 utilities for other core parts of the build. A lot of mesmers have the transfer condititon/remove condition on crit sigil for that reason in my opinion.

We have better in battle mobility then out of combat mobility, but in order to get it we need a bit more then other classes. As Kasama pointed out though, Mesmers do a LOT despite the things it can’t do particularly well.

Why was the Healing Seed consumable banned?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Aylaine.1036

I also used these on my mesmer during certain fractals (Cliffside/Grawl, mainly) Null Field simply cant remove all the vulnerability that people get, and rather then let themk die, I I usually go about removing it so we don’t wipe. At level 26+, those cultists get real nasty. You need to remove it or you will get burned down, even if you are a bunker build. I’m pretty sad they removed it honestly. It’s not going to reshape many players though, I foresee more people dying since others aren’t coming prepared for the dungeon by these or utility/weapon choices. :x

The Seeds were powerful, but not because of the healing. Condition Removal was much more potent. I’d rather they have put a timer on it, so at least you can bring it out to support your team in a tough fight when you expend your utility. :/

It works very well end game with a daze/vun based shatter build (20/20’s calling card, IMO) being able to pop 25 stacks of vulnerability on a boss then time warp will see it die so much faster, it’s amazing.

Why are some rewards limited daily/weekly?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aylaine.1036

Aylaine.1036

Because if it wasn’t time gated, everyone would have everything in a few days and complain about having nothing to do while the devs create new content.

^This.

And honestly it’s much better than grind gating, doesn’t force people to grind yet leaves time to devs for making new content.

The grind is what is being gated by time. The carrot is more powerful gear. Dailies/monthlies/guild missions/fotm are the activities you grind to get the carrot. Standard MMO fare. Even WoW, which I assume you would refer to as ‘grind’ gated, has time gating as well. There is a limit placed on how much valor you can earn and how many shots at given gear you have each week. Standard MMO fare. There is absolutely nothing new or different here.

The last time I played WoW, you could walk out of that time gated content empty handed many times, and had to fight over what you wanted. I can safely say that I’ve never had to fight over anyone with /roll for the gear I worked for in this game. Plus, you get some form of currency everytime you do said content to work towards what you want. Lol, we have it EXTREMELY good. Anyone who thinks otherwise should go raid for a few months in WoW, and see if they have the gear they want.

What does this do to you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aylaine.1036

Aylaine.1036

That’s not how their business plan is set up. Keeping us in the game with artificial time gates is not good for the player no matter how you try to spin it. They keep more people playing in hopes that they will buy stuff from the cash shop and buy an expansion pack when it comes out.

A properly designed game offers enough intrinsic rewards to make me want to stay in the game, not feel forced to if I want to stay competative. There are plenty of games out there that already have those carrots.

Actually, time gated material is more for keeping completion at a pace that ANet can manage. If nothing was on a time gate, this game would be pretty dead. Why? Because people would piledrive through all the content over and over until everyone has all the items they wanted from said content. Time gating also helps them keep people playing while they work on new patches/content. It’s the lesser evil of the choices they had as a company in my opinion.

It has 0 to do with competitive stats, since ascended accessories do not increase your ability to do things by that much. Honestly, people are running around in rares still, doing just fine. The only thing you need ascended items for is fractals. If you don’t do those, but still want them, then tough. They are only required if, the above reason notwithstanding, you want them or feel you need the. Otherwise they are optional.

It makes me sad to see people want time gating gone. They’d be playing mostly alone once everyone has all the ‘things’.

Up coming shatter nerf.

in Mesmer

Posted by: Aylaine.1036

Aylaine.1036

It’s terrible balance in that light. Nerfing the class mechanic that nearly every mesmer build uses to buff 2 weapons with situation line AoE is dumb. Furthermore, lining up targets will only be useful in certain situations in my opinion. They hopefully will stick that to s/tpvp and leave PvE/WvW out of it.

No. At this rate, the legendary’s will become more common then decent/hard to get exotics. While they will be flashier in appearance, they will become more common at this rate. Aylaine.1036

This is not a solution. It is Anet telling me its pointless to have more than one chars. This actually hurts a part of the player base imo. Anyway its not the first time they do it and it will probably will not be the last:)

Actually this IS a solution. Because they achieved exactly what was intended. You don’t like it because you won’t be able to farm on couple characters and THAT is exactly why they made it this way in the first place.

The point of having more characters is to have fun with different classes not to more efficiently abuse the system to get rich.

As a last reply, because I have said my opinion and this is what this place is for, I will tell you that making things easier to find does not make anyone rich. Now all the people that have farmed rares and made stacks of ectos or simply bought them at 25s a piece will get rich because price is already 32s and will probably get a lot higher after the patch.

Nuff said. Thx all for your opinions:)

You kinda proved him right there. Some people who were farming weren’t spending their ectos, they were hoarding them. Waiting for the price to go up whjen the next big item or cool thingymajig requires ectos. Once the price goes up, they cash in. Market Manipulators do this regularly. I know a lot of people also farmed them for their legendaries or items they wanted, and I do feel for them. But if this will stabilize the economy a bit, then it’s a necessary change in my opinion.

Look at it this way: it could go back to the way it was before. We have it good still, just not exploitable good.

I think it would be stupid to nerf our most reliable AoE damage (or one of) for a less appealing line aoe damage. The gains wouldn’t be enough to justify the losses. Lining peopple up like that will only be useful in ZvZ in my opinion. Shatters are fine. If anything, other builds should be raised to that level, because they need the attention much more. :/

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

GW2 does not have zone specific music or night/day themes. Having harvested several GIG’s worth of WoW music, I can safely say that no game will beat it unless they do the same. Every zone (almost) had its own unique music, 1-4 day themes and 1-4 night themes, as well as special themes for zone quests or events/areas of note. GW2 has good music, but there isn’t nearly enough of it and it’s spread around too much. :?

Discovered my Ascended anger was unfounded

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aylaine.1036

Aylaine.1036

6.5 months is a vast overestimate of fully gearing a character.

It takes a maximum of 20 days to get both ascended rings.
It takes 20 days of laurels to get your ascended amulet (plus completion of the monthly which should happen in those 20 days)
It takes 4 weeks of guild missions to get both ascended earrings (assuming your guild has them all unlocked, will take longer for the first few months as guilds unlock things)

In total it takes 28 days to completely deck out your character in all current ascended gear. That’s one character a month. In 6 months you could fully deck out 6 characters.

A far cry from the 6 years that people are claiming lol.

Yeah, except that your assumptions meant that the player is running at least one Fractal per day and one guild mission per week, on top of doing their daily every single day.

I can tell you that I’m not a casual player and even I am not doing that. Those expectations may be reasonable to someone who has all the time in the world to play this game, but they’re not reasonable for a casual player

And for anyone who doesn’t want to be forced to run guild missions or Fractals, well, the previous poster’s math is exactly correct: it’d take 6 months to gear a single character.

This is precisely why people have been saying for months that there needs to be more than two ways of obtaining Ascended gear. Because right now, it’s either run this content that the devs are trying very hard to “encourage” you to do, or else rely on the laurel system and wait forever. And that’s not acceptable.

Fractal takes like an hour, two tops depending on group. Daily can be steamrolled in 20 minutes, and there’s PLENTY of guilds now who will let people participate in guild missions without even staying in the guild after. I’m in the middle of casual/hardcore and I easily have time for these activities.

Why there's no LFG 7m after launch

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aylaine.1036

Hey OP, can you list all the AAA MMOs that had an LFG at launch. Cause I’m having trouble thinking of any.

Ya, it took wow like 5 years to get one. Suddenly GW2 has to launch with one because if it doesn’t it looks cheap? Aha.

So given that GW2 was released AFTER WoW and GW1, this has no significance to you?

They’ve done it before, they should have done it again.

It doesn’t matter if other games started without LFG, wow launched 100 years ago, GW2 launched in 2012, LFG is common sense now.

The argument that it took a competitor a long time to get something is not a valid argument. Why does it keep coming up?

In order to remain competitive, you need to offer services/features which your consumers want. In this case, a LFG is wanted. Competitors have realized this and implemented them. In order to remain competitive in the current market, the supplier needs to offer these features in addition to exclusive features, or it will lose customers to the competition.

Especially considering how many design changes they made to appeal to the WoW crowd, leaving this one out just seems weird.

It’ll come when it’s ready, is my motto. Complaining about it wont get it any faster.

The death of Zhaitan (revisited)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aylaine.1036

My opinion is, the battle involved the players very little. And that means its not only very underwhelming in terms of fun, but it means you don’t really get to test your skills against him. You just shoot him from an airship.

I finished the event, liked it, but felt it should have involved me much more in the actual fight. Here’s how I would have it play out. It starts off normal until the megalaser shoots off the part of his body. From there, he latches onto the airship, and you have to attack his various arms and appendages. He constantly swipes at you, damaging the ship and casts lots of nasty spells that you have to dodge or avoid, while keeping balance on the ship. You do enough damage to where he flies off, spinning the ship out of control. He then attacks the back of the ship, where you must climb onto rubble and keep your distance since his weight is tilting the ship upward. Eventually all the fighting ruptures the engines, and they explode. The ship is faiklling into the ruined city, with you ontop several broken chunks of it. The ship crashes, throwing party members and NPC’s around alike. Zhaitan lands on a large piece of coral, or a building that impales him. He’s still alive though! You then fight him on the ground, and he targets actual players and destroys the environment around him in an epic final battle. Rather then just doing aoes in places, he comes after you with his superior size and height. Destiny’s Edge helps out too. That would feel involving and epic to me.

The dragon events could take this same principal, once the lag is fixed. Stop having them attack the ground. Make them more dynamic and alive, I want them to attack ME. Make me feel threatened, rather then sitting there and pushing 1. If the dragons involved players more as opposed to random aoe attacks, they would be much more fun.

Ascended Items are fairly easy to get. Dailies are easy, and the monthly is easy too. The only really difficult ones are the earrings, due to their pricy cost. But amulet? Easy, 20 days of saving. Rings? Fractals, guaranteed chance after 10 runs with pristine relics. Or you might get the one you want to drop beforehand! Generous system IMO, especially if I compare it to other MMO’s ways of getting top gear.

Has anyone tried to farm a chaos axe?

Rare things are rare.

Chaos axes were easy to get lol… don’t even compare GW1 farms to GW2.

This game surpasses any korean grind, puts them to shame actually.

There were multiple chests to get it from and they also dropped off mobs if you were lucky. Everyone and their mom had one, which wasn’t a bad thing imo… at least these items should be obtainable without wasting your entire life away.

I’m so sick of any decent items in this game requiring a ton of mats to farm/buy on TP and throwing them into the mystic toilet, why can’t they just drop themselves at a fair chance %?

Lol?

Korean grinds put this game to shame. Go play Lineage II or virtually any NCsoft game. Compared to those, this game is really tame. Also, you would be doing nothing different if it dropped wholly off of one mob. You’d still be grinding. Except rather then having a multitude of ways to acquire pieces of Foefire’s Essence, you would be killing one boss over and over. Ohh, along with everyone else. Better hope you get there in time otherwise you are screwed.

Puts korean games to shame….ha, that was a good one. I do agree that lodestones are high, but what do you expect? ANet puts these time consuming goals in the game to keep you playing until they can push out more content. If everything in this game was easy to get, a lot of people would quit. I do believe there should be more story/quest oriented ways to get say, soulbound materials (say do an epic quest chain, over a few days, and get 10-20 lodestones that you CANT sell.) or an exploration achievement or something other then grinding. But in terms of the actual grind, it really isn’t that bad.

Just my opinion.

Focus does look nice but I enjoy the blind from dagger 4 a lot. If you could direct me to a build page so I can get an idea of what you’re running I would be very happy

how do you get max stats in guild wars 2?

I agree. People who are playing this game have it so good compared to the games of the past and, yes, even games still being played right now. I feel really blessed to play this game. Sure, it’s not perfect, but there’s seriously MUCH worse out there. I think back to the days of WoW where I’m fighting with people via /roll to get that one item that dropped on my 40th run.

Sure glad that’s over.

You only get 1 bonus chest per account per week per mission type, regardless of how many guilds you do it in.

How do people have so many commendations then? There has to be a way around it. xD
