I think an issue at this point is not only what will resolve the issue but how will they apologize to the community. With so much hate atm just throwing in something without an apology still would leave alot of lingering emotions xD

You have a point. But solutions do not exclude apologies, and vice versa.

Personally, I understand the anger, but I wouldn’t need an apology from ArenaNet. I also haven’t pre-purchased HoT so far. I prefer to wait for more money and more information about the release. (A release date would be the minimum for me to consider making a purchase.)

And then you’ll get justified complaints from the Deluxe buyers, who will claim the main reason they paid more was the slot, and they don’t think their mini Rytlock is worth that much now.

It’s pretty much too late now.

Perhaps 800 gems is the way to go, then.

Those who own the game already and get the Standard edition would get 800 gems (which they could use to buy a character slot for their new Revenant).

Those who own the game already and get the Deluxe edition would get the character slot and 800 gems (which they could spend on other things, like new skins/outfits, or a character slot for their 2nd Revenant).

What irks me the most is the people who bought HOT already, maybe even the ultimate version, then come on here to explain how it is worth it while, at the exact same time, telling people that the value of the expansion is different for everyone. Hypocritical as fark. If you TRULY loved this and were more than happy about buying HOT, you wouldn’t be coming here trying to justify the price.

Cut these people some slack. They are not so much defending ArenaNet’s pricing policy, but rather their own purchasing decision. After all, agreeing with this angry mob that ArenaNet gives bad deals, would mean that they would have to admit that they fell for a bad deal. Nobody wants to admit to being a sucker.

By the way, I am not claming the current pricing scheme is a good deal or a bad deal. I have not purchased the expansion myself, so far.

I think this person nailed it:

Just give a choice: extra slot or base game
Seems like a simple solution. I’d happily pay $50 for expansion +1 slot as a vet. A new player gets great value by getting the base + HoT and has 5 empty slots to work with. But let me choose!

Personally, I will get the ultimate because I’ve gotten far more than $50 of value out of the game over the years and I have no problem giving ANet my $. But I think they’d quickly quell the concerns of the masses with the above solution.

I think this is an excellent suggestion.

This would ameliorate a lot of the discontent that have struck the existing player base. What has made these people mad is the thought that they will receive less value for their money than new players. Offering them some additional value to offset this perceived waste would solve most of the problem.

This could take the form of something a new player would not miss, or would already receive as part of the base game. A character slot is perfect, because of the new Revenant profession. Although about 800 gems (the price of an additional character slot) would also work.

If you want to start a new character from level 1 for the play experience, I highly recommend you wait one more week, because the leveling progression, trait system and utility skills will receive (another) major overhaul on June 23rd.

I cannot advise you on server choice, but it would help if you indicated if you are on US or EU servers.

Living Story currently has 2 seasons. Season 1 is currently unavailable for everyone (i.e. you had to be there to experience it), but Season 2 can be unlocked in the gemstore. It has 8 installments, consisting of individual story instances, new achievements and the possibility to acquire a few unique items (specifically, a back item and a new armor set). They cost 200 gems per episode, but they can also be purchased in bulk.
Also, check out the new zones of Dry Top and Silverwastes (both level 80) which were introduced during Living World Season 2. (The story instances will also introduce you to these areas, but are not required to play there.)

If you want to pick a new starting race, any will do. Asura and sylvari each have their own very distinct starting zone, but they share the 2nd zone. The norn have their very own zones, but these areas can get a bit dull (to me at least) because it’s all snow. Norn can be difficult to navigate in tight areas because their size may cause camera issues.
If you want a fun casting profession other than guardian or necromancer, that really only leaves elementalist and mesmer. Elementalists are masters of the four elements, which makes them very versatile, as they have access to more weapon skills at a time than any other profession. Mesmers have a few unique abilities, including the ability to create clones which can be blown up for various effects.

How are they going to make legendaries, skins and specs restricted to HoT?

I can think of a few ways.

- Specializations (like the Chronomancer and Druid) will be treated like trait lines that can only actually be unlocked if you have the expansion.

- Skins (maybe even including legendaries) could be soulbound or accountbound on acquire, and only obtainable in expansion-only zones.

- There could be an additional filter to the Trade Post that regulates that expansion-only items can only be purchased by players who own the expansion.

My problem with both sides of this Expansion.

Question on edge of the mists

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Jornophelanthas.1475

Jornophelanthas.1475

Leveling up is not something you need to rush in this game. If this is your first time, just explore PvE, do some crafting and participate in events all around you.

If you think the “real game” only starts at level 80, you will be disappointed. All game options and features gradually become available as you level from 0 to 80. There is comparatively little “this-is-not-for-you-if-you-are-not-max-level” content. (Although the upcoming expansion will be aimed at level 80 only!)

Instead, all lower level content can still be played and will remain challenging, because it is not possible to “outlevel” a lower level zone.

Getting to level 80 as fast as possible really serves no purpose on your first play-through of the game. Stop and smell the roses.

So, I'm never going to get a horde, am I?

To be more specific, gathering nodes, skill challenges and vistas do not appear on the minimap before you reach a certain level. You can still interact with them as you encounter them, though. Gathering nodes have been removed from level 1-5 areas (near the city entrances).
Every starting zone now has a small dodging tutorial added (with a minor reward).

Jornophelanthas.1475

If you want to start over with a new character, bear in mind the following changes:

1. The “New Player Experience” (NPE) changes the pace in which you unlock weapon skills, the ability to dodge, gathering, crafting, weapon swaps, etc. Stat increases, skill points and trait points are also awarded at different moments. There are now rewards on levelup, including (sometimes) items.

2. Traits no longer require manuals to unlock, and will be first awarded at level 30, rather than level 11. Also, the system has been condensed: blocks of 5 trait points have been fused to cost 1 trait point, and the total number of trait points at level 80 has been reduced from 70 to 14. This means you can still assign exactly as many traits as before, but only in blocks of 5.

3. Traits can now be freely reassigned anytime you are out of combat.

4. Major traits must now be unlocked on new characters. Check the traits panel for what needs to be done to unlock each trait. New Grandmaster traits have been added. Existing characters must unlock these new traits to use them. Traits can also be unlocked by spending skill points at a profession trainer.

NOTE: The changes to traits and how to unlock them is very likely to change when Heart of Thorns is released.

5. The Personal Story has been rearranged. You will now unlock a full chapter of story progression every 10 levels. The rewards have also been changed.
Note that the later parts of the story have been put in a different order (and one storyline was even removed), and there has been negative player feedback about this. Developers have announced that this order change will be reverted in the (hopefully near) future.

6. Check out the wardrobe feature in your Hero Screen and bank. You can now unlock armor skins, and use transmutation charges (which replace transmutation stones) to change the skins on your current equipment to any previously unlocked skin.

7. Two new zones have been added: Dry Top and The Silverwastes. They are mostly aimed at large zone-wide meta-events that require some amount of player cooperation, but you can explore them solo as well. Many achievements can be attained there. The Silverwastes also contains the most elaborate jumping puzzle to date.

8. Living Story Season 2 can be unlocked by paying gems. This is new content that mostly takes place in the 2 new zones. They provide story instances with additional challenges and achievements after you complete them once, reminiscent of missions in Guild Wars 1.

9. Collection achievements: collect certain categories of items, and receive a reward upon completing the collection. This ranges from merely funny to useful and occasionally significant rewards.

10. The daily rewards now work differently. Check it out.

11. There are daily rewards just for logging in. Some of these may be quite useful, depending on what you need.

I believe E could be Lord Faren. Most of E’s activity centers around Divinity’s Reach and human politics, and Faren would fit the cliché of bored playboy by day, secret hero by night.

Another suspect could be Logan Thackeray. This is also based on the notion that E is most active in Divinity’s Reach, as well as the fact that Logan was actually the one to hire Marjory to investigate Captain Theo Ashford’s death during Dragon Bash. (Marjory only knew him by reputation and was surprised he wanted to deal with her – or even knew her.)

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jornophelanthas.1475

Jornophelanthas.1475

I have a suggestion regarding the PvE gathering daily tasks.

Currently, we have the following situation:
1. One daily task consists of mining ore, chopping lumber or foraging plants in a specific world region.
2. The reward chest for this mini-achievement contains more materials of the same kind that you had to gather.

However, this leaves the crafting materials of leather and cloth underutilized. Especially since the new dailies give a significant injection of ore and lumber into the economy, while especially cloth is undersupplied.

For this reason, I would very much appreciate one of the following changes to not make cloth materials even more expensive (relative to ore and lumber, at least):

A. Have the reward chest contain leather and/or cloth materials, rather than more ore/lumber.
B. Add leather and cloth gathering nodes (e.g. skinnable animals for leather and wool, certain plants for other cloth), along with corresponding daily achievements and reward chests.
C. Significantly increase the chance of cloth scrap drops, and especially of items that salvage into cloth.

As an aside, I have noticed that many of the more recently added loot tables in the game include a small chance of dropping a few cloth scraps of any tier. I assume this is done in order to compensate for the relatively high demand for cloth in (ascended) crafting. However, this becomes mostly pointless if the new daily system gives daily reward chests that contain comparable amounts of lumber/ore/cooking ingredients.

Bloomanoo and Peneloopee are running gag “stormcrows”. They travel the world and happen to decide to settle in places where some kind of mass destruction is about to happen. The joke is not obvious enough, however, which is why the characters are impopular.

I did not like Faolain’s voice actress during “Seeds of Truth”, for the following reasons:

1. She does not sound anything like the Faolain in Twilight Arbor Story Mode.
2. She does not speak with a consistent British accent, like all sylvari should.

Even if the voice actress was changed, the new VA should at least make an effort to sound like her predecessor.

Additionally (but this is a writing issue, not audio-related), I found it disappointing that neither Caithe nor Faolain referred to each other as “Dearheart”, given that Twilight Arbor Faolain constantly uses this nickname to remind Caithe of their earlier relationship.

I also disliked the lack of a British accent (which is the most distinguishing feature in all sylvari speech) in the young Faolain.

Although I can forgive the voice being less deep. After all, this is pre-Nightmare Faolain, and she has not turned into a pathological sadist yet.

The one thing I missed from the Caithe-Faolain interaction is that there is not a single instance of the word “Dearheart”. Present-day Faolain uses this name for Caithe all the time in order to remind Caithe of their previous relationship. And in these flashbacks, at the height of this relationship (possibly right before it starts to decline), neither Caithe nor Faolain calls the other “Dearheart”.

For me, an “expansion or a huge content update” is not necessary. The Living Story season 2 regularly adds small pieces of (permanent) content to the game. This is also clearly what ArenaNet has been working on during the first half of 2014.

I don’t know what will come after season 2, but I would rather have continuous expansion (like new zones that are regularly released in small chunks every few weeks), than a year of nothing followed by a “huge content update” that will feel like it has been there forever in two weeks time.

Preparing new content takes months of time. We players tend to forget that.

I also believe that Caithe wants to take the egg to the Pale Tree. Remember that Caithe was also present at the World Summit. Perhaps she received a vision of her own.
Or perhaps it has to do with the secret that Scarlet alludes to. In this case, perhaps Caithe has received a Wyld Hunt some time ago that she has told nobody else about, and Scarlet might have found out while she was in Omadd’s machine.

(If you are a sylvari, you will be told that only two sylvari have received a Wyld Hunt vision of fighting a dragon in their Dream. You are one; Caithe is the other.)

In any case, I believe Caithe is taking the dragon egg to the Pale Tree, either because it is somehow needed to restore the Pale Tree, or because the Grove is the safest place to nurture and hatch the egg without the risk of Elder Dragon corruption.

* How to play Naked and for Free at Max Level

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Jornophelanthas.1475

Jornophelanthas.1475

You have a few options:

- FIRST, change your account password. Use a password that you have never used elsewhere before, so that the hackers won’t be able to get in again. Do not save the password on your PC.

- Start a new character to get a feel for the game again. You will earn karma and coin. Save up the karma.

- Is your level 80 an Engineer? Then instead of starting a new character, you could equip a weapon kit (e.g. Flamethrower) and just start farming monsters, and sell the loot.

- Reassign your trait points (this is free now) in such a way that it will help you survive with little/no equipment.

- Use some of the coin to purchase gathering tools, a salvage kit and at least one cheap weapon you can use, and equip these on your main character. Kill some monsters and gather resources. Equip any loot you can use. Salvage the rest, and sell all resources on the Trade Post.

- You could consider buying some food, sharpening stones, etc. from the trading post, as this can give you significant temporary boosts and is very cheap.

- Do jumping puzzles that do not require combat, such as the 3 in Lion’s Arch, and Under New Management in Southsun Cove. With luck, you will receive some equipment you can use. Salvage/sell the rest.

- Use karma to buy level 75-80 karma equipment from heart merchants (especially rings/accessories) to round out your equipment slots. (Karma is account-wide now.)

- Try to finish daily achievements and save up laurels. Use laurels to buy an Ascended amulet and (eventually) other trinkets from the laurel vendors.

Once you have all green equipment, you are fully functional again. You can work up to yellow to do dungeons for exotic dungeon armor, save up karma for Orrian temple armor, or (if you already leveled a craft or two) start crafting exotics for yourself.

P.S. If you need bags, you can buy 4-slot bags for very cheap from merchants, and a newly created character will receive a few free ones as well. These 4-slot bags are account-bound, so pass them on to your level 80 through the bank. As you earn more coin/materials, you can buy/craft better bags.

Ascended is actually only about a 5% improvement over Exotic. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Most foods and some traits give you bigger bonuses.

There are 3 types of Ascended equipment:

- Weapons are worthwhile to get (if you are willing to make the investments). The 5% increase on base weapon damage is significant.

- Armor is not very worthwhile. Because many armor pieces have relatively low stats, a 5% increase is not very noticeable. If you choose to go for armor, you should probably start with the chest item, because that gives the biggest bonus out of all pieces.

- Trinkets (rings, accessories, amulets, back items) are very worthwhile, but you also do not need to craft them. Save up on laurels (by doing daily and monthly achievements) and, optionally, badges of honor (by doing WvW), and you can simply buy these from laurel vendors. Make sure to go for an amulet first, as this has the highest stats.

I think a lot of that issue would be solved if the first scout you encounter (the one that stands right next to you when you exit your prelude) would also direct you to your racial home city.

The rest (area completion, waypoint use, etc.) is actually already covered in the New Player Experience (NPE), which gives hints on what the game has to offer included in the levelup popup messages.
