Try abandoning the chapter (or starting a different one), and then switch back. That should restart your story chapter.

Or wait, is this Tizlak’s Warbler that you need to summon hidden scouts? In that case, disregard the above.

1. Try talking to Tizlak again. He’s out there in the open world, right where he gave you the thing in the first place.
2. If that doesn’t work, file a bug report in game and check the box “blocking progress”. This should flag the issue to be looked at.
3. Find another player who has the warbler and ask them to summon the scouts for you, so you can talk to them.

A number of newly introduced materials do not have collectible bank slots in the bank collection tab.

It concerns:
– Agate Orb (even though the other new gemstones are collectible)
– Mother of Pearl
– Stabilizing Matrix
– Various materials for the Scribe craft
(This is not an exhaustive list – there could be other materials like this.)

There is also a set of rare (yellow) crafting materials from the core game that also does not have collectible bank slots, even though I believe they should:

- Copper Doubloon
– Silver Doubloon
– Gold Doubloon
– Platinum Doubloon

Could these materials be made collectible in the bank as well, please?

If you want to complain about the game, that’s fine. But please don’t do it in another person’s thread, where they ask for pointers to enjoy the game more. Instead, you come barging in and start telling them to stop playing.

It’s impolite, it’s not answering their questions, and it creates a toxic environment. Start your own thread.

Merge Healing Power with Vitality

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jornophelanthas.1475

Jornophelanthas.1475

The problem is not in the defensive stats, but in the offensive ones. Power, Precision and Ferocity have a mutually strengthening synergy.
Power adds directly (and linearly) to average damage per second, by flatly increasing the damage on every direct hit.
Precision adds indirectly to average damage per second, by increasing the chance to score a critical hit (150% damage) on an attack.
Ferocity adds indirectly to average damage per second, by increasing the damage bonus when a critical hit is scored.
- The higher your Power, the bigger the difference made by having more Precision.
- The higher your Precision, the bigger the difference made by having more Ferocity.
- The higher your Power, the bigger the difference made by having more Ferocity.

Toughness, Vitality and Healing Power also have some synergy, but a weaker one.
Vitality directly increases the damage you can absorb by raising your health pool total.
Toughness directly increases the damage you can absorb by reducing incoming damage to your health pool.
Healing Power indirectly increases the damage you can absorb by increasing the effectiveness of healing effects.
- Toughness and Healing Power do not have a multiplicative synergy, but an additive one. Having a high Toughness, does not increase the value of your Vitality score, or vice versa.
- The higher your Toughness, the more effective your Healing Power, because the damage-absorbing function of Toughness makes it so that healing effects bring you closer to your maximum health than otherwise.
- Having a low Vitality score actually increases the effectiveness of Healing Power, since any individual healing effect will heal a larger percentage of your total health pool.

However, Healing Power does nothing if you never use or are given any healing effects during combat. Also, Healing Power has a fairly limited effect on healing skills, which varies by skill.

All in all, defensive stats are more helped by creating more multiplicative synergies between them, than by merging them haphazardly.
For example, a new stat X could be added that gives a chance to score a “critical defense” on any being hit, which causes the incoming damage to be halved when triggered.
If this would be done, Vitality, stat X and Toughness would mirror the dynamics between Power, Precision and Ferocity. Not exactly, but the synergies would be comparable.

I don't understand Elite Specializations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The Guardian has a few ranged options (staff, scepter), and the Dragon Hunter elite specialization adds longbow to the Guardian’s ranged options.

However, there is nothing wrong with equipping a longbow along with your greatsword or hammer under weapon swap. It adds versatility to the profession.

By the way, Rangers also have melee options.

Finally, the role of elite specializations is that in the future, there will be multiple specializations for every profession. However, you can only ever use one at a time.

Jornophelanthas.1475

Guess my main won’t be finishing the main story then. I really don’t feel like re-doing 4 missions. If you have credit for it and it’s clearly already showing up in your sidebar as completed they should just progress through it without you actually having to do it. It’s exactly like being able to do the LW2 missions even if you haven’t done one mission of the Scarlet story except in this case anyone who being forced to do this at least has actually already put in the effort and dealt with any bugs or mishaps that happened their first play through.

It’s three short missions, you get a chance to experience the other side of the story split if you haven’t already, and you get rewards again.

Why would you not do them again? It’d only take up less than an hour in full, and then you’d have it done.

Sounds like you’re being stubborn for the sake of being stubborn.

I have to agree with Konig des Todes here.

Imagine you go to the cinema to see “Guild Wars 2: The Movie”, and due to some technical issue, the last 10 minutes of the movie won’t play. The people at the movie theater apologize for the inconvenience, and they fix the issue. They decide to rewind the movie for everyone, and play the last 30 minutes -including the previously broken 10 minutes.
And here you go: “Boo! I don’t want to repeat those extra 20 minutes! I’m leaving, and I guess I’ll never go to the cinema again to watch this movie! Now I’ll never know how it ends, and it’s all your fault!”

This has been in the game since day 1. It has not changed and will not change.

If you want to receive 5000 gold for an item, you should raise your sell price so that you get 5000 gold after taxes. The tradepost even has a nifty pop-up that shows your expected net return after tax when you hover the mouse over the sell price.

By the way, the trade post tax is also an insurance. You can count on safe trades without getting scammed, because buyers cannot withhold payment or try dodgy trades (swapping items around and such). This is also why there is no trade screen in the game.

Edit: Yes to the point about inflation. This is a real danger in economies (both real and artificial), and game designers also have to make sure to structurally extract enough gold out of players’ purses so that (tradepost) prices remain stable. Taxing each trade post transaction is the surest way to make sure the richest players pay the most. Because they get rich by using the tradepost.

Out of curiosity, why they you say the kodan are too much like norn? I’ve heard that several times, but save in height never seen it myself.

The similarities are lore-wise.

Norn and Kodan are both proud arctic races with a deep spiritual connection to nature, who have been driven south from their homeland by Jormag and its minions. Both suffered heavy losses and both are fighting Jormag’s corruption within their own ranks.

The main difference is that Norn appear to be adapting better to their new surroundings, while the Kodan are threatened by extinction because of their unwillingness to adapt. Instead, they rigidly stick to their old lifestyle.

Why have two playable races with almost the same backstory?

It's never too early for this discussion...

in Lore

Posted by: Jornophelanthas.1475

Jornophelanthas.1475

I see the possibility of adding new playable races to the game as tied to specific expansion of the world of Tyria.

- Tengu are a possible tie-in to Cantha, since they are exiles from Cantha.

- Largos are a deep-sea race and they could be further expanded on as part of exploration of the depths of the oceans and the Deep Sea Dragon.

- Kodan are fleeing from Jormag’s influence in the Far Shiverpeaks, a history they share with the Norn. Kodan are a weak case, though, because the Norn already have the same function lore-wise.

- If Elona (and Kralkatorrik) ever comes with a new playable race, it could be either a Palawa Joko brand undead mummy, or a new creation from the realm of Torment, which could feature some kind of redeemed Margonite, or Forgotten, or a hybrid of the two. Both of these are unlikely, because humans already have a vested interest in Elona.

- Finally, if the Depths of Tyria would be added to the game (including Primordus), this could come with a reintroduction of the Stone Dwarves. These probably won’t be playable, though, since the Asura already have a strong enough tie to this content.

By the way, Maguuma does not introduce a new playable race, because Mordremoth is the sylvari’s Dragon. Besides, we could learn a few secrets of the Mursaat or the Druids while we are there. And I have a nagging suspicion that the abandoned fortresses in Silverwastes were occupied by White Mantle until Mordremoth’s awakening.

I would like to post a link to a thread that may give some insight in why people are so mad:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Reason-why-people-are-mad-Fairness/first#post5168853

Here’s the gist:
It is not greed or entitlement, but genuine moral outrage at unequal pricing.

Group 1 (who have nothing) pay $50 and receive A + B.
Group 2 (who already own A) pay $50 and receive B.
These two groups pay the same price, but they get unequal value in return. This touches people at a deep emotional level: “That is unfair!”

So why did ArenaNet not see this coming? Because pricing and sales policy are very rational activities, while morality is a very irrational, emotional thing. No, they’re not evil or immoral. It was a blind spot.

Reason why people are mad: Fairness.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Jornophelanthas.1475

Jornophelanthas.1475

I wholeheartedly agree with the OP’s argument.

The anger voiced by many is not inspired by greed, but by moral outrage. This is illustrated by:

- Strong emotional reaction – morality is very much based in emotion.
(Greed is more calculating, and any outrage inspired by greed is merely staged.)

- Various accusations aimed at ArenaNet that paint them as immoral or evil – very moral terms.
(Greedy players would rather paint ArenaNet as cheap or selfish – very economical terms.)

- None of the angry players says anything negative about the new players who would receive a better deal.
(If they were greedy, they would be more envious of the new players.)

- Angry players demand an apology and rectification from ArenaNet.
(Greedy players would just settle for more stuff and not bother with apologies.)

My impression is that the sales managers at ArenaNet have vastly underestimated the perception of inequality that their pricing scheme evoked. ArenaNet needs to address this adequately, or their long-term reputation may suffer.

Oh, and the counterargument claiming that “veteran players are greedy because they don’t realize what they got over the past three years” is sadly mistaken. The thing is that all these players have already paid for that by purchasing the game in the first place.

Finally, why does the occasional price reduction in the base game not bother existing players as much as this deal? Because it is very typical of any product to decrease in value over time. A used car is less valuable than a new one. A three-year-old game is worth less than the upcoming next-big-thing-with-super-graphics.

- New players get the base game.
- Existing players get 800 gems to spend on a character slot for their new Revenant, or other stuff if they don’t want a character slot.
- Existing players who order HoT Deluxe or Ultimate already get a character slot, so the 800 additional gems can be spent however they like.
- ArenaNet gets satisfied (or at least somewhat mollified) customers, and the revenue they need to keep this game going forward.

Cut these people some slack. They are not so much defending ArenaNet’s pricing policy, but rather their own purchasing decision. After all, agreeing with this angry mob that ArenaNet gives bad deals, would mean that they would have to admit that they fell for a bad deal. Nobody wants to admit to being a sucker.

By the way, I am not claming the current pricing scheme is a good deal or a bad deal. I have not purchased the expansion myself, so far.

you actualy think someone cares what the angry mob thinks of them?

ps:i bought it 8-)

No, they don’t care what the angry mob thinks about them. They feel they must defend their purchase against the angry mob’s accusations, because otherwise they must draw the conclusion “I am a sucker”.
What they are telling themselves is “I am not a sucker. Therefore, I must have paid a fair price. Therefore, HoT must be priced fairly. Therefore, the angry mob must be wrong.”

And this reasoning has nothing to do with whether the angry mob is right or wrong here.

It’s not bread you ate, but a lifetime bread subscription that you got and paid for three years ago.

Except now, the same company that brought you bread now has BreadPlus, which is way tastier and more nutritious than regular bread – with free peanut butter and jelly. Regular bread will no longer be sold to new bread eaters (although your current lifetime subscription will still be good and the recipe will be tweaked a bit).

Now, your friend (who never liked bread, but is interested in BreadPlus) is willing to buy a lifetime subscription to BreadPlus. You are considering upgrading to eating BreadPlus, but then you find out that the upgrade cost is exactly the same as your friend’s subscription cost. Even though you already paid the full subscription cost for your lifetime supply of bread three years ago.

This means that if you upgrade, the “lifetime supply of bread” you paid for only gave you three years of bread, and no discount on BreadPlus.

Or delete that existing character that you don’t like and only kept around for storage purposes. Or use one of those four empty character slots that you haven’t ever used before. Or that one that you bought two years ago when it was on sale, but never got around to make a new character for.
Not everyone has all their character slots filled with irreplaceable alts.

Not a good option. All of the characters are fully leveled up, geared up and each have their own uniqueness. If it was easy as to just delete, I would’ve done it a long time ago. I don’t have any characters as storage. I rely on guild bank for that.

I understand and appreciate that this may not be an option for you (or a good number of other players). My point was just that not everyone is in the same position. Some people _do_have character slots to spare.

It depends. Prices are not set in stone.

If buyers have enough leverage to convince a (monopolistic) seller to lower their price, then the price goes down.
If sellers have enough leverage to convince buyers to pay a higher price, then the price goes up.
Sometimes buyers and seller haggle, until they find a price they both agree on.

The base game has not always had the same price from launch until now. As products get older, their market value tends to decrease. Heart of Thorns is a way to renew the value of Guild Wars 2 as a marketable product, starting the cycle again, which keeps ArenaNet in business and allows all of us to continue playing Guild Wars 2.

But will you actually do anything about it?
Reading doesn’t do anything for us.
How about telling us what you guys think, and what you are doing, or what you are thinking about doing instead of saying:

Patience. Gaile Gray gave a heads up that ArenaNet has picked up on this issue and confirms that they are taking it seriously. This means that an official response could be coming later (but no guarantees).

Regardless, as a community representative, she is not the one who makes decisions about sales, marketing and pricing. She is, however, the one who can relay our concerns to those people. Which she may well be doing, given her response.
