Why not, instead, having an alternate sequence skill?
After planting the banner, the banner skills turns into ‘Banner recall’ skills. Like this:

Recall Banner of Defense:
Casting 1/4s.
Recharge 10s.
Teleport your Banner of Defense to your location. For 45 seconds, only players in your party can pick the banner.

That way, if you don’t mind them taking the banner, they can do so.
And if you mind you can even take it from their very hands.

Monk as another combat style class

MithranArkanere.8957

I believe monks in GW2 should be about Balance.

Lore
Monks are all about finding balance in the world. Not ‘pure’ balance in all things like Kodan, but within the context of their culture.

  • Human monks know that balance is not depending in the gods, but not forgetting about them. Not losing their roots, but being open to the new.
  • For the charr, is not losing a battle, but also not losing oneself in the battle. Machines are made for war, and war is made for a reason. Charr control them, not the other way around.
  • For the asura, like all things, is the Eternal Alchemy, and not forgetting that there’s more in it than numbers and formulas.
  • Norn balance is not only about balance between the material world and the mists, but also communing with the spirits, keeping both the wisdom of their humanoid forms and power of their beastly forms in balance.
  • And for silvary, is the mystery of their very existence. For them, Balance is finding their place in the world.
Most monks left their cultures for a little while, or had another monk as a master and mentor that did left, which gave them the perspective needed for balance.

Color scheme:
- Black&white.

Sumbol:
- Quarter moon.

Special ability:
- Balance

  • Three skills F1, F2, F3, placed over the weapon skills. Like warrior’s adrenaline skills, they change depending on weapon, but instead of weapon type, they vary with range of the main weapon. Short range melee weapons with mainly 130 to 300range will share a set of 3 skills, while longer range weapons with 900 and 1200 range will have a different set, and mid range of 600 will have the third set.
  • F1 is a mainly support skill, F2 is a mainly control skill, and F3 is a mainly damage skill.
  • Between the skills there’s two rows of dots 6 dots or disks. These disks can be either white or black. White to the left, black to the right, the ones at the borther between the two colors can ‘flip’ like reversi/otherllo pieces, as if they were playing tug of war.
    F1 OOOOOO F2 OOOOOO F3
    F1 OOO OOO F2 OOOOOO F3
    F1 OOOOOO F2 OO OOOO F3
  • This dot bar is “the balance”, and has a passive effect on the monk, that affects how traits and skills behave.
  • To use the F1 skill, all 12 dots must be white. To use the F2, 6 must be white, and the other 6 must be black. To use F3, all 12 must be black.
  • Most weapon and some utility skills affect the dots by flipping them to white or black, while the healing skill and 1st skill never do that.
  • Also, chain skills may have a different third skill depending on Balance.
  • Although the weapon skills themselves do not change based on balance like ekementalist skills with attunements, their effects vary with it. For example, a healing skill may provide 1 stack of regeneration for every 3 white dots, and one of might for every 3 black dots, or a skill that both damages foes in AoE and heals allies in AoE may damage more and heal less when all dots are black, but heal more and damage less when all dots are white.
  • Some skills change their flipping behavior with balance too: Some will flip to the majority (e.g.: if most are white, it flips dots to white) and some oppose it (e.g.: if most are white, it flips to black instead), and some will stop flipping dots if they are 6 white/6 black, keeping the balance to 50/50.
  • Some traits trigger only while in a certain balance statuses, like a trait effect that unleashes an effect every time you go from all black to all white or vice-versa; others change their behavior depending on Balance state, like granting one boon or another depending on balance, etc… the possibilities of using this are endless.

The key of using Balace is keeping the dots the way you want them, and they are an extra factor when choosing the order of your skills.

Armor
- Light

Weapons:
Monks are a two-set profession.
Their weaponry would be inspired in martial arts and the Eighteen Arms of Wushu.
They have an equipping quirk like thieves. They can equip most 1h weapons as 2h ones. To do so, simply equip a 1h weapon with no offhand, and you’ll get 5 skills instead 3. Equip an offhand to get 2 different #4 and #5 skills.

Ground

  • First weapons (new type of weapon that includes any weapon loosely similar in handling like cestus, katars, bracers, tonfa, knuckles, push daggers, etc) 2h, main hand and offhand. 130 avg. range.
  • Dagger: 2h, main hand and offhand. 130 avg. range.
  • Sword: 2h, main hand and offhand. 150 avg. range.
  • Mace: 2h, main hand and offhand. 130 avg. range.
  • Spear 2h or main hand. 900 avg. range. with thrown skills, 600 with others.
  • Whip main hand only. 300 avg. range.
  • Shield offhand only.
  • Quarterstaff 2hand only. 600 avg. range.
  • Polearm 2hand only. 600 avg. range.
  • Short bow. 1200 avg. range.

Underwater (all 2 handed)

  • Trident. 600 range.
  • Spear. 1200 range.
  • Dagger 150 range.

I’ll need more room if I wanted to write more. I may consider the wiki,

There’s countless threads on this topic, and all seem to be made by people that simply dislike the system or the idea of having such a system, ignoring the very well reasoned and valid reasons for it, and also dismissing any possibility of improvement to fix its faults.

As it has been already explained in all those threads by many players countless times already, instead echoing all those arguments and counter-arguments once again, I’ll use the vast and endless accumulated knowledge of the whole Internet to answer this suggestion in the simplest yet most convincing and undeniable way .

As you can surely see, there’s simply no way around it.

Weapon swapping bag

in Suggestions

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

This wouldn’t happen if, like in GW1, offhand items were not removed when you equip 2h weapons.

They should replicate that behavior, so offhands don’t go all over our bags or to equipment bags when you swap the main hand weapon with a 2h weapon.
Istead, they should get a ‘disabled’ icon over them in the inventory, indicating that the offhand in that slot is not in use.

That’ll save us all countless headaches.

I strongly believe they should add a 9th crafting discipline for this:
- Tinker.

They’ll make breathers, backpacks and other decorative back items, and consumables you can use to produce environmental weapons, like “Rock”, “Plank” or the consumable “Medkit” that gives you a medkit like the engineer’s for 5 minutes or until you drop it (you can see those sold by an asura in Metrica).

They could also craft some vanity items like some costumes pieces, a few miniatures, and a few standalone armor and weapon skins that are not part of a set, that look more specialized to professions, although anyone can use them anyways, like ‘high-tech’(high-tech for the time, XD) steampunky thieving masks, monocles, googles, chain bracers, etc…

Ten, you could put the combat costume pieces into the combat slots.
And actual armor skills would still be important, as by hiding/showing combat pieces you would quickly get multiple combinations to mix and match both sets.

Asura should keep 1even 1-hand weapons in the back instead the sides, and keep them as big as they are when a small silvary holds them.

Gear System - GW2 vs GW1

in Suggestions

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

Because of those variable upgrades, we didn’t have a weapon upgrade trader, as GW1 traders and GW2’s trading post do not save individual instances of items like in auction house in many other games, but just numbers of how many items of each individual sellable item are.

Instead of bringing to GW2 something that would prevent selling upgrades in the trading post unless they add every single possible version of each variable item, which would be a pain to manage, they should update weapon upgrades in GW1, so they are like runes and insignia, and so they can have the much needed weapon upgrade traders, and people who want to quickly make changes in their gear for PvP with their PvE character can do so like they can with runes and insignia thanks to the rune traders in each PvP outpost.

Much like you can click on Squad Commander icons, you should be able to click on defeated player icons to set them as “I’m going there”.
Then, players set that way will get icons in your map representing all other players on their way to revive them.

If they open the map and try to waypoint away, they’ll get a message saying “<Character name> is on his/her way to revive you, do you want to travel anyways?”
So you won’t miss that even if you has your map open.

This setting would disappear after 2 minutes o so, or if that player no longer has your defeated icon in their map.

3 utterly broken game mechanics that need fixed

MithranArkanere.8957

1. For this I’ll just add a 10-second countdown while in combat.
It’s time enough to be killed by something before you can log out.

2. I don’t care much about this one. I somet times gather while protected with Obsidian Flesh and things like those, but only when theres a champion. I can’t defeat alone, and I rarely see a node next to a champion anyways, there’s usually veterans instead.

3. I’m against this.
Enemies not breaking aggro would create more problems than this for people who actually play, as rarely more than 5 enemies chase anyone for too long, excepting within events.
You can easily get away from a bunch of enemies.
If some guy is standing AFK in the middle of an unsafe zone, it’s their risks, and they are taking someone’s slot in the area. If they want to go AFK and come back quickitteno one spot, they should use a Hall of Monuments Portal stone, log out or teleport to a safer area. They’ll be able to go back quickly, and they’ll free their slot.

The last thing we need is infiltrator guilds that join sides to take over their keeps.
This could be used by players to grief opposing sides.
Join the enemy, make ghost guilds with no upgrades, and take control of them, then limit all the supply so no one can use it to repair under siege.

Instead of that, if a guild with more and better upgrades wants to take control of an already controlled location, they should be able to do so.

This is not as much of a problem as people that go point-hiking.

At least this gets lots of people focused on something. And it’s something for a winning side to do when they winning, on when there’s few enemies.
In any case, people stay together for this, and it can be interesting if more than one side go for the grub at the same time.

Problems come when you get lots of solo guys or small groups going around getting killed and not helping at all, spreading the world’s manpower into lots of small futile tasks, and then, instead staying around and helping a little, like defeating some skritt so they stop harassing supply lines or something, they just leave after wasting a WvW slot.

Open the pet panel, and next to each portrait there would be 1 item slot.
Then you get the pet equipment piece, something like a collar.
The prefix would determine main attribute chances (e.g. +200 power&-100 vitality, +33 to all atributes, etc).
The suffix, determined by an upgrade, would be more variable.

This would also allow more customization and fine-tuning options, with PvP gear for pets.

I had to split the post. Here’s the last one:
p. Shield
As for a main hand shield, we have a lot of Tron discs, ricochet and Captain America to use as inspiration. Reflecting and blocking are already in the offhand, so…

  1. Disc
Throw the shield like a disk, piercing though enemies on its path an returning to you. Thrown shields bounce off walls.
    Combo finisher: Projectile (20% chance)
    600 range. 3/4s activation.
  2. Cluster.
Trow the shield to a target. It it hits, it splits into 5 shields, each one hitting a nearby enemy.
Combo finisher: projectile. (The original thrown shield and each split shield)
Combo finisher: blast. (When it splits)
    600 area.
    1000 range. 3/4s activation. 6s recharge.
  3. Clash
Appears only when having two shields.
Use both shields like clash cymbals, Dealing, Stun, Daze, Confusion and minor damage.
    Stun: 0.5s.
    Daze: 2s
    Confusion: 8 stacks, 8s.
    Combo finisher: Blast.
    Range 150. 1/4 activation. 15s recharge.
    • Absorb
Appears only when not having an offhand shield.
Tries to block for 3 seconds. If it blocks a projectile, it becomes a copy of the skill that created that projectile for 15 seconds.
If it blocks a projectile that can’t be copied (e.g. Monster skills, skills too powerful to be copied by this), it defaults to a copy of Throw Shield.
If it blocks any other type of attack, it just recharges.
      1/4 activation. 15s recharge.

Crossbow? What should the engineer do with something archaic as a crossbow?

[…]

Gordon Freeman:
- MIT Engineer.
- Uses gadgety crosbboss that fire hated rebars as bolts.

JC Denton
- Augmented human from a fictional future.
- Uses crossbows with all sorts of high-tech ammo for silent approach.

Crossbows are not low-tech. They are just simple, which is not the same. But they can be as high-tech as their engineered improvements. Gadget bolts that do things like explosions or seeking targets, automatic fire, long range sniping, zooming on target…
Things like those and more can be added to an engineered crossbow.

These are my recommendations for new engineer weapons (all numbers and skills are just preliminary examples to give an idea):

Crossbow

  1. Seeking Bolt.
Fires a target-seeking bolt that bounces through up to 3 targets.
    Combo finisher: Projectile (20% chance)
1200 range. 2/4s activation. No recharge.
  2. Rail Bolt.
Fires a piercing bolt that goes in a straight line and can go through up to 5 targets on its path, dealing decent damage and vulnerability. It starts with 5 stacks and deals one stack less to each subsequent target: 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1.
    1200 range. 2s activation. 15s recharge.
  3. Till it goes click
Set the crossbow to automatic fire, and fire a burst of bolts in a cone that can hit up to 5 targets in front of the character, 4 pulses of damage per second, for minor damage each pulse.
If you are not moving, the cone is narrow and deals decent damage.
If you are moving, the cone is wider, allowing you to easily hit more targets, but the damage is lower.
Disables all weapon skills for 2 seconds when it ends, even if it’s interrupted.
    900 range. 5s channel duration. 20s recharge.
  4. Grappling Bolt
Shoot a bolt with a grappling hook and a wire attached to it, dealing minor damage to the target. If you hit a creature, object or the ground, you’ll be pulled to the target, dealing small damage and knocking down foes within 300 units of the landing point.
    1200 range. 3/4 activation. 45s recharge.
  5. Scoped Shot.
Strong single-target attack that deals is always critical vs targets that are not moving.
If first person is ever added. This skill would force first person during its activation, getting “very strong” damage instead just “strong” and bonus damage vs immobile targets on top of critical, to compensate for losing sight of the battle during activation.
1500 range. 5s activation. 60s recharge. Movement cancels activation.

p Hammer
A hammer is a tool too. And engineers are all about using tools. Here’s my recommended skills for an engineer using a hammer.

  1. Sledge
Hitting foes in the area. Deals bonus damage to turrets, objects and structures.
    150 area.
    150 range. 1/2s activation.
    • Wreck
      Chain.
      Hit in a bigger area.
      300 area.
      300 range. 1s activation.
    • Demolish
      Chain
Hit in an even bigger area and deals blindness.
      Combo field: smoke, 5 seconds.
      600 area.
      600 range. 2s activation.
  2. Rivet
    Deals damage and weakness.
    If blocked, deals vulnerability instead.
    Vulnerability: 5 stacks (if blocked)
    150 range. 3/4s activation.
  3. Panel beater
Damage target. Gain fury and might if you successfully hit a target.
    150 range.
  4. Nail down.
Deals damage and cripples. If the enemy has weakness, it knocks them down instead and it’s a combo finisher.
Combo finisher: blast (if target has weakness).
    300 range. 1.25s activation. 20 recharge.
  5. Jackhammer
Deals several consecutive strikes to a single target. The first hit immobilizes the target, the the last one launches them. Ends if the enemy moves away from range.
    Immobilize: 2s.
    Combo finisher: whirl.
    150 range. 3s channeling. 45s recharge.

I though this was happening already, because most of the greens I got in lower level areas came from creatures that gave maximum bonus exp.

If this is not happening, it could be a good idea. Who knows, maybe we’ll get ‘explorer-hunters’ that travel to the most remote spots to find a creature that was alive for a long time.

Seems like the entire event chain is bugged, so you can’t do this at all.

Are Charr Atheist like me?

Charr know of the existence of gods as a fact, but don’t believe in any false unproven gods.
Any self-respecting Earth atheist would believe that a god exists if there was proof, but there is no proof or evidence of any of Earth’s gods being real, only of the very opposite, that they were made-up.
Humans in Earth believe in gods just because of lack of skeptical, critical thinking, lazy custom, blind faith, lack of shared information and/or unproven hearsay.

But believing that the existence of a proven god as a fact doesn’t stop you from being an atheist.
They know of gods, but they don’t follow any, and won’t believe in the false gods made up by the Flame Legion or anyone else. They won’t accept the rule of any creature that gains enough power and decides to call themselves a god either.
The key of being an atheist is not believing false made-up gods like grawl do all the time, so that makes charr the very epitome of atheism.

They are just not ‘atheists like you’ because in Tyria, unlike on Earth, there’s actual gods proven to exist, with statues made by Malchor and all, and the definition of ‘god’ may not be the same for the ‘real’ Tyrian gods and the Human made-up ones.

There are no gods for the Charr!

This also explain the markers in PvP.

You are not “finished” with blood and guts spilling all over the place and all that fun stuff. Instead, you are ‘marked’, ‘tagged’ as defeated.

Dragons - migration and events

I’d like to have the meta-events reset in a map linked to the activity in the entire map.

Each successfully completed event and heart would increase the count. Each failed one would decrease it.

That way we’ll get people that go to the map to do events to trigger the dragon, instead people that travel to the map to ask when the dragon is up, hit the dragon, open the chest, and go spam “when is the dragon coming” to the next map.

Yeah. No only that.

Elixir of Heroes and a couple of other environmental drinks count too.

Potions don’t seem to work as drinks, although I believe they should. Both alchemical potions and transmogrifying tonics.

As the achievement says “drinks” and potions and tonics have no achievement while all food have, tonics and potions should at least give 1 point each.

Yeah. I’m there too. My asura engineer has that cute dreadlocks hairstyle with the headband and the metal pin, but I’m limited to the starting colors, since none of the others would match the headband.

Make gear on female Asura more feminine

in Suggestions

MithranArkanere.8957

Anet just needs to add an option for the “feminine” and “masculine” version of every armor for either sex, and for all races, not just asura. If the male version has a shirt and pants, let the females wear it as well, or choose the revealing skirt and hose if that’s their thing. And, I suppose, if you’re in to it, let the men wear the dresses as well.

So long as its equal. Unless it is, I can’t endorse any more chauvinistic armor designs, its bad enough as it is. Things may be better from GW1, but its like saying its the least bad flu of all the ones to get, its still bad.

Maid Guy Kogarashi approves of this comment.

Whoever thinks you can’t be a manly man among men in frilly gown, a maid costume or a wedding dress, is a fool. And many light armors are dresses already, so who cares?
