You forgot Elona, which doesn’t have a Charr/Asura/Norn presence either.

Cantha and Elona will make it, pretty sure of that, but they’ll require heavy retcon.

You could be right, but they could go in completely different directions. Obviously if we get back to Cantha, something has to be done about allowing other races there. It could be that their situation is so desperate that they don’t care who comes to their aid, thus allowing Charr, Norn, Sylvari, and Asura into Cantha. Any new professions will have to be available to be learned by all races.

Same with Elona although I believe that should be easier. Elona is not Xenophobic. They have several other races besides humans there. It will have to be a possibility of a trek there by Tyrian characters even if they create a new profession for the place.

So they may not have to retcon anything. They just have to come up with a suitable reason for us to return with any race we want to bring.

Both golf and poker involve luck, are rewarded, and not only that—we celebrate the best players in those games. There is an element of luck in most competition—and in life too. Many people are rewarded in real life for being lucky.

Also, be careful what you wish for…who’s to say you’d be successful in this skill game for rewards you allude to? Hundreds of thousands of people play this game. Just saying

Awesome post Chopps! But you know the haters are going to be coming, right? LOL I’m not one of them. I am glad to have someone like you with common sense post this.

At the same time, the great majority of the community (and thus the great majority of the complainers) are grinders, farmers and so on.

Really? Where is your statistical evidence? Because if you are basing your statement on forum posters then your statement is false. All of us who post in forums are a very small minority of the people who play the game. Add to that people with complaints are the main posters in discussion and suggestion forums. Most people that play the game are content with the way things are.

@Pricer. Didn’t you say you were done with the forums on another thread? Back to taking out your frustrations on other posters I see.

I’m done arguing, you have your point of view and I have mine..and I’ll put it where I like. Having just finished Dragon Bash and once again walked away feeling completely and uttely underwhelmed and cheated. I am once again feeling in a mood to complain.

Done. Cya and thanks for your input.

Really? Done arguing is what you said? I highlighted a part of your post from that other thread below.

You know what Jheryn and Guns and Giblets…you are absolutely right. My frustration is based on the fact that I (like many other people) want change, so I come on the forum to highlight what I believe is wrong and I (much like everyone else) get no response from the developers at all, but a bunch of angry comments stating that “you are playing the game wrong”. Indeed. I certainly am, because I’m not playing it…I’m arguing about it on the internet, which as everyone knows is a really special way to prove your intellectual superiority. And I’m quite frankly bigger than that.
So with that in mind, being a creature of simple needs and easy frustration. I quit the forums. Au-revoir, bon-voyage, abiento and goodnight. You might see me in game whacking away at the latest version of a pinata….sky-pinata or something probably.
Have fun.

No one knows the life span of a djinn. Heck, they could live for thousands of years as far as we know. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that some of the elder ones can grow to travel and expand their horizons past what they once protected. IDK where I’m going with this, just saying though.

LOL. Very true. I get where you are going. They could have migrated to Tyria from Elona or somewhere else.

My gut still tells me that she and Zomorros are from Elona. I know we only have circumstantial evidence to support this, but that is what I think. None of us really know until Anet does something lore wise with these two.

It is beyond ridiculous when posterss make unsubstantiated claims like this. I think I know how to fix it though. Here is my suggestion. If Anet gives everyone everything they want (even those that have completely opposite views), then Anet will flourish and become more successful than Bill Gates, world hunger will be solved, flowers will bloom worldwide, and Guild Wars 2 will become so insanely successful that all other games will just give up and close shop. The devil (also known as RNG) will be defeated and peace, like a blanket, will cover the earth.

So if people are OK with or like the way things are and don’t agree with you about GW2 then they are “I want to have Anet’s baby people?” I will never understand how people become so arrogant that they think their opinions are the only right ones and that they have the right to demean others that don’t fall in line behind them. No endgame other than WvW. The players who keep saying, “The game is the endgame!” are just anet parrots and absolutely nuts.

Let me translate this for other people reading this thread. “No endgame other than WvW for me. And if anybody doesn’t think the same way I do they are wrong and I will call them names.”

Why was GW1 so popular for so many years after it was released? Why did people keep playing even PvE for so many years? Challenging end-game areas, and truly open-ended character building, which took trinity and threw in hybrids and so many different options.

I agree with you and would even applaud you for pointing this out if you were not so caustic to other people. You are also not taking into account that much of that challenging endgame came after the original Prophecies and even Factions. This game isn’t even a year old and you are complaining about it and comparing it to a game that took almost four years to have decently challenging end game material.

GW2 after you have made a couple chars and leveled to 80, PVE has NOTHING to offer. What, do Orr quest chains over and over? Boring. “Explore”? All the hearts are “kill x” and frankly, if you are saying to play the game itself is the endgame, you have not made more than one character.

Again that is just you and your opinion. I know many with multiple characters who are still having a lot of fun playing the game. Everyone gets their enjoyment differently. You are allowed your opinion but it certainly doesn’t encompass everyone and you have no clue or evidence that your opinion is the one that “rules them all.”

GW2 needs a radical change in how character skills are handled, need more freedom and more possibilities with builds, and needs combat to not be just a numbers fest.

Again I agree. If you would just offer these kinds of opinions and suggestions it would go a long way toward your credibility instead of just attacking other posters, players in general and Anet.

They may have one moderator reading this section just to remove posts that are foul rants, but almost nothing anyone has suggested in here has been even close to implemented.

Well, let’s tell Anet together that they have to jump on every single suggestion made here (yours first of course) and if it isn’t done on your time table then we throw the game out! How dare Anet not bow to our every wish and demand? Since you don’t have the first clue as to ANet’s internal schedules, plans, and programming demands, maybe you should make your suggestions and not make things into an attack.

The game is turning into a korean-style cash RNG squeeze while the game is dying. NCSoft and Anet have some financial and structural problems, so this may not change anytime soon. Anet is designing content around the gemstore, rather than the other way around.

How do you know that NCSoft and Anet have financial and structural problems? Where is your evidence? I love when players like you come on to the forums and make claims like this. The truth is you have no clue about their business. You don’t work there and are not privy to their business structure or corporate finances.

Also the game is not dying. That may be your opinion, but you have no proof of this either. I did some googling and all MMO’s loose a large percentage of their player base after the “new” wears off for many people. And unlike you I read The History of Massively Multiplayer Online Games on wikipedia. They give a great account. I also Googled ‘mmo player loss’ and there are many articles and sites that say the same thing. The same thing happened to GW1 after Prophecies was released after about the same time as GW2 has been in play. Players leaving is normal not evidence of death.

If you don’t like it, then play something else. You being hateful to other posters isn’t helping anything. Attacking ANet and players that don’t agree with you isn’t going to get you anywhere with anyone. Either be constructive and civil or go away.

Are you a flavour of the month player?

I think that the Elder Dragons can be turned into an interesting plot device to focus on if done right, the issue is that ArenaNet doesn’t give any of their main villains a lot of screen time, and didn’t really touch on the backgrounds of the Elder Dragons in the story thus far.

Amen. I miss all the many cut scenes we had in GW1. They really made the lore and story come alive. This constant face to face jabbering with murky watercolor movement in the background gets old quick. There are too few cut scenes in the game. I enjoy the ones in the dungeons, but that is where the bulk of them reside. I think the personal story would have benefited from both a lore and enjoyment standpoint had there been more actual cut scenes.

Are you kidding? this is Anet’s bread & butter. Hell, this is the bread & butter of most online games now. it’s how they are funded, whales. if you remove the random element, they lose huge amounts of income. Anet hit a home run with this. if someone is dumb enough to spend hundreds of dollars on something that is not guaranteed, then they should be accepting the consequences.

Tbh, they should make the first weapon buyable per account, then the rest RNG. that was rich people can still fund the game, but others can get that guaranteed one.

Amen brother! I don’t know why people cannot understand that there is nothing wrong with RNG. It is how the company makes money. And they are in this to make money not to “just do cool stuff and make everyone happy.” ANet has no obligation to anyone as far as what they provide through their Gem Shop. These are the things that you can buy. And you can also buy them by swapping gold you make in the game for gems.

The only thing I don’t agree with you on is letting the players even buy one and then no more.

I’m a good example. There is only one item I wanted to buy with a Jade ticket. I want the staff. There weren’t any others I wanted. I have been grinding for dragon coffers like crazy. I was lucky enough to get a ticket finally. Now that I have my staff, I’m done. So a lot of people spending money for just one ticket, wouldn’t spend all that money if they could get even one of them. So I doubt that will happen.

RNG: A Soultion For All

jheryn.8390

It’s no secret that when it comes to getting items through RNG, most players have varying degrees of negative feelings towards the idea.

This is actually not the case. I have no negative feelings at all about getting items through RNG. In fact, I like it this way. I know quite a few friends who feel the same way. And if I know several, there are many, many more who feel the same as I do. Human nature is that those who are unhappy (like those that do not like RNG) are vocal about what they don’t like. People who don’t care or are happy with things, generally don’t say anything. So I would say that most players do not have varying degrees of negative feelings about RNG skin acquisitions, but there are those who are indeed very vocal about their dislike. I wouldn’t say they are a majority however.

Which also brings me to this:

First, we have to recognize what type of players there are. After some thought, I think these are the most likely.

1. Players who want new skins, but can’t / won’t spend real money for Gem Store items.
2. Players who want skins, and will pay varying degrees of real money for thier chances.
3. Players who don’t want new items.

You have missed one important group: Players who want skins, and will pay varying degrees of real money for them, but will not pay for a “chance”
And that’s actually quite a big group.

You’re absolutely correct. I was kinda hoping number two covered that, but you’re right.

There are the two other categories I listed above.

1. Players who do not care one way or another that they have to acquire these skins through RNG means.
2. Players who like taking chances trying to get skins, etc. through RNG means.

Guild-to-Guild communication - A Severe Gap

in Suggestions

Posted by: jheryn.8390

jheryn.8390

The one I’d most like to see implemented from the above list is an alliance chat. Much has already been made of the detrimental effect of allowing players to be in multiple guilds, if they’re just going to be pulled in several directions at once by requirements to represent one guild x amount of the time, or contribute a certain amount of influence or resources to one over the other.

A working alliance chat then, won’t remove that difficult choice, but at least will allow players to cast a wider net when trying to find a group, instead of forcing them to resort to PUGs, which are notorious for their impatience and kicks when doing speedruns or completing any kind of content.

I agree 100%. Even if we do not have alliances like we had back in GW1 right away, an alliance chat function would go a long way for the social game and would make being in several guilds that work together a much happier place.

One guild I am in has sister guilds and we work together on things. It would be nice not to have to switch representation all the time just in order to communicate.

There’s nothing in Konig’s posts speaking of his theory as fact. The overall feel of his posts is that he accepts both as possible, but considers Krytan-born as being more likely.

I agree. I don’t think he was even suggesting that his theory was fact. He even says that it is just his guess

Personally, on reflection, I’m inclined to think she is Elonian-born – she speaks of travelling with Zomorros, so she certainly hasn’t been in Lion’s Arch all her life, and there’s relatively little opportunity to travel within Tyria (especially pre-treaty).

I also think she is Elonian born. I also believe that her garb is most definitely paragon/sunspear.

What makes me further believe she is Elonian, is something else she says in her dialog that I posted above.

“Between his boasts, he tells me stories of my homeland, Elona. It helps me remember where I’m from, even if I can’t go back.”
“Why can’t you go back?”
“Palawa Joko rules Elona with an iron fist. No one gets out or in. But Zommoros keeps the memory of my people alive through his stories. For that, I’m grateful.”

She say says something similar twice in her dialog “It helps me remember where I’m from” and “Zommoros keeps the memory of my people alive”. Those statement sound to me like she is saying she remembers those things and Zommoros helps her do that. She cannot remember them if she was not there. It also sounds to me as if it is intimate knowledge of her people.

I do think somehow she is from Elona. I could be wrong, but between even knowing Zommoros and traveling with him, I don’t see how she could be Tyrian. Zommoros is obviously not a Tyrian creature. Elona, the Far Shiverpeaks, and some parts of the Charr homelands had djinns, not Tyria as far as I can recall.

It might also be possible that Zommoros has extended her lifespan. Guild Wars lore holds that djinn can grant wishes (or, at least, that there are legends of them doing such), but it never lays out just what that power is capable of.

Pure speculation, but it is a theory I am particularly fond of, and it would mean there are no inconsistencies in her dialogue.

Good one! I like this one a lot. It would also make my first guess be in line with yours. She is very old.

What I find interesting is that everyone seems to assume they travel back and forth. Personally, I find some magical form of secret communication, some sort of scrying ritual or the like, more likely than literal movement.

Why they think this is because of the Elona entry on GW2 Wiki.

This combined with Kralkatorrik’s presence in the Crystal Desert has prevented all communication with Elona, except for the Order of Whispers, who have an unknown means of traveling between the two continents.

The Wiki page does say that she is a Sunspear, but as Konig points out there have been many things on the Wiki that have been incorrect.

What is not incorrect on the wiki is her dialog (I went to her and confirmed). One part of it says:

“Between his boasts, he tells me stories of my homeland, Elona. It helps me remember where I’m from, even if I can’t go back.”
“Why can’t you go back?”
“Palawa Joko rules Elona with an iron fist. No one gets out or in. But Zommoros keeps the memory of my people alive through his stories. For that, I’m grateful.”

She does say she cannot go back, meaning that she was indeed there (or claims to be). She also dresses like a paragon, and how many people in Tyria would remember how a paragon garbed themselves? This gives a little credibility even if circumstantial. So that makes me think of a few possibilities.

1. She is very old, making her one of the escapees from Elona that would confirm that those in Elona have not escaped or been seen in Tyria for 50 years.

2. Zommoros somehow allowed himself and her to escape through magical means.

3. That it was incorrect that it has been 50 years since anyone has escaped Elona. We were told this, but we have been told many things…

We also know The Order of Whispers does have contact with Elona somehow. I suppose there is a possibility that the Whisperers have smuggled some people out of Elona and we just are not privy to that information yet. Whatever the case, as was stated above, there are some real inconsistencies with her character and what we have been told about Elona.

I think that would be a cool explanation. It would be great if somewhere in the future, something uniquely Sunspear would be glaringly evident within the Whispers Order.

Intelligent people DO need stimulation but that stimulation doesn’t have to be spoon fed entertainment or challenge. There are different kinds of intelligence and obviously they’d have different entertainment requirements.

I never said it did. I merely implied that this game does not provide the building blocks for an intelligent or non-intelligent person to properly amuse themselves as it is almost entirely based on repetitive actions. I suspect that those with more requirements, generally intelligent people who could be making better use of their time, would probably agree.

Pricer, I understand what you meant and so did Vayne from what I have of both of your posts. However, if you could read your first post objectively you might see that you more than implied what you did. Vayne also has a very valid point. There are more than one type of intelligence and their methods of mental stimulation are vast.

For many intelligent people who utilize brain function extensively on a daily basis, repetitive stimuli outside of their daily machinations can serve as both stress reliever and entertainment. If you truly believe that GW2 is a strictly repetitive drone, you might be surprised to find that there are probably many intelligent people that would actually find the environment relaxing and fun.

The other thing I would say is that you may see GW2 as strictly an exercise of repetition, but that is perception not fact. There is plenty of lore and scads of quests that build upon the GW story. There is much that can be done that has nothing to do with grind or cyclical behaviors. I enjoy talking to NPC’s in and out of cities to see what they have to say. There are quests built into many places that give bits of lore that you would not expect. There is a lot to discover in GW2. The place is also visually remarkable and much time can be taken in just admiring the artistry of the game.

I believe the game has more than enough mental stimulation to keep any intelligent person entertained. What innervates a person’s enjoyment is not predicated on their intelligence. It is a combination of many factors that determines which things keep mentally gifted as well as the not so gifted entertained. This game may not do it for you and many such as yourself. Conversely, it is very entertaining and not at all repetitive for others including those with high mental capacity. A staggering amount of things are in the eye (and mind) of the beholder, not just beauty.

But the Order of Whispers is no where near infallible. In my mind, the idea of Zhaitan not being dead comes more from groups of people who just refuse to believe that a dungeon as “lame” as Arah was a fight against an epic Elder Dragon. That being said, we’ll know the truth when more land opens up and we get to see the rest of Orr. If Zhaitan’s body isn’t located somewhere in the rest of Orr, then I’ll definitely join the “He Ain’t Dead!” club.

I think Konig’s answer is the the most plausible. However, I’ll join that club if we don’t find at least some evidence of his passing.

Actually Gandarel, I have a feeling that Aaron’s explanation is closer to the truth of in-game lore. I have a feeling that it will be much in tune with if we ever see the Dervish or Paragon professions out and about. They will only be seen as NPC’s and we will not have the opportunity to be them ourselves.

Thanks Narcemus. That makes much more sense than “we don’t know anything” from Gandarel. I believe Aaron has it right too. After his post I remembered that line in-game. Just because we don’t have something glaringly obvious or written in stone, doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t use the brains we were given to put clues together that are presented to us.

Monks draw power from the bloodstones like other spellcasters, I don’t think this is related to the gods at all. Ofc they are related at some point, but only humans ans with this reason, mesmers and necros should have disappered as well. It is realted to the removal of healers. Face it :p

We all understand the reason they did it. The OP was asking what the lore behind it was.

I like this. Other than pants, shoes, and shirts, they should make all the other shown items optional. I am all for the weapons not being invisible during combat, but at all other times, I have several toons I would like them hidden on.

“Wow +1.” And+2 if it would let me. As others have said, very well thought out and your ideas sound great. One other very minor use that we just talked about last night is it would be the place to gather to team up for guild bounties and treks, etc. We usually meet a a generally quiet waypoint in Gendarran Fields. Still costs money to port there, but it is away from most hostiles and not overrun with other players like cities are.

^— Well I think if they’re going to do any Lunatic Court stuff it will be this year. Last years Halloween did in some ways feel as though it was meant to establish Halloween as a concept for those unfamiliar to GW lore, the lunatic court we met did seem to have some greater motives and what not, so I imagine they’ll delve into that stuff this year, since they revealed the lore behind Mad King Thorn last year

I agree. I can see them using the GW1 Lunatic Court quest concepts that they didn’t get to use before. I think they did a great job with the King and the whole Halloween introduction into GW2. I’m sure they will build on it just as you said.

From what I have read from lore experts like Konig and Drax, I think it has something to do with the absence of the gods. I could be wrong, but that does seem logical.

Sunspears...

Some did indeed migrate to Tyria, but didn’t have enough numbers to be an organisation in their own right, but they were involved with the formation of the Guardian profession in Tyria. Others that remained in Elona are now, basically, wandering hermits, trying to keep the principles they stand for but not having the strength to oppose Joko directly.

Drax, I know it is probably a separate issue (maybe not) but do you know anything about the sunspears in the Tomb of the Primeval Kings? Are they related to any of this somehow. I googled and looked them up on Wiki, but didn’t see much. Maybe I missed it.

@Lorelei.3918
Viking Jorun is correct, you do complain way to much. If you don’t like the game, please find one that you do.

Wow! I love this guy! Finally someone who isn’t complaining and loving the game for the great piece of work that it is. Keep it up my friend. Your post was a breath of fresh air.

@FlamingFoxx.1305
I don’t think anyone could have said it better. Kudos.
