I can use my evade for swiftness, short bow 5, sword 2, then shadowstep, and by that time if my target is in distance I can use steal to close the final bit of distance

Might add that this was in a ranked match, so a decent player can easily get in the top 100 using this thing they’re using, plus it’s unfair for the rest of the players.
If you are in a ranked match with top 100 players then they’re already the best thieves in the game. They’ve already mastered teleportation halfway across the map in mere seconds for decap/recap and don’t need to hack to do it.
Thief stacking forced me to learn to play guardian/warrior. Next up is revenant probably.
If you queued for a match to turn around and decline it, you should get dishonored. Don’t queue.
Most of these “pros” moved on ages ago. GW2 s-pvp is dead compared to what it used to be. And even more dead if you compare it to GW1’s pvp modes. “E-sports” approach simply didn’t work.
Selectable 2-5 weapon skills have been obvious for this game for a long time. I was surprised when they decided to go the elite spec route instead of just giving the game new 2-5 weapon skills. It just seemed like an obvious route to go.
The medium armor is lacking… plus they made another trenchcoat? Couldn’t draw inspiration from the majority of GW1 ranger/assassin armors that aren’t trenchcoats? Lets make another one but with sparkle. :|
(edited by Enokitake.1742)
Heavy: Best. (show me female human)
Light: …meh (But Ok)
Medium: Trenchcoat >.> (seriously? do you listen at all?)
Subject to change based on animation/aura/effects. Except medium.
Yes because I want more content.

I think the biggest problem with Ascended gear in ranked isn’t that it exists, but that it you get progress towards it even if you lose. You shouldn’t get any progress towards it at all for losing. You only progress towards it if you win. That makes people actually play to win instead of afking or just sucking up an empty spot so they don’t spend 60g in PvE-land.
So in summary you’re saying:
1) Total Games played should be factored into/against MMR somehow or…
2) Rabbit to Dragon should be factored into/against MMR somehow and…
3) Progress to Ascended Gear should only occur on Victory.
…(if the answer to those is yes then co-signed).
If the system was any good, I wouldn’t be sitting at 1.9k on one account, 1.8k on another account and 1.1k on another account. Your initial 3-5 games determines your placement and the system tries its hardest to keep you there. If you were not lucky with allies on those matches…good kittening luck to you.
This paragraph is very interesting.
Anyone else got multiple accounts with vastly different ratings? If so why.
3 of those victories were barely won…
I’d like to see the team composition of the games he barely won versus the games they won largely.
(Teamstacking? + Hard Counter?)
I think if they remove the class-daily from the ranked matches will fix the problem.
Nah, its just because it doesn’t filter by class when it match makes you. Or if it does it doesn’t do it very well.
It should look at the solo queue teams and ask “does red team already have a <class>, if so put <class> on blue team, if blue team has <class> too, put on team with lesser number of <class>”.
…which it obviously isn’t doing right now, lol.
Ok another double thief on my team and none on enemies and i am not even done with placement matches yet. How does it work, Anet? Also, can we actually start banning people for flaming thief players or we just gonna have s1/s2 all over again?
Thieves are not designed to be on same level as other classes because they are roamers, which does NOT work with class stacking and worse part thieves get flamed and harassed by teammates consistently for simply playing the class. That screams that something is wrong. Help us out here, Anet. Players should not get punished so harshly just because balancing team has decided that thieves should be garbage fighters.
I felt this way earlier about 10 times … Then I said kitten it and started playing my guard/war again. I figure I can at least get team stacks in my favor.
Still doesn’t change the fact that thief is designed around… having 1 thief on team but game constantly stacks two of the on same team and community makes it even worse by flaming thief players 24/7. And i know for fact, customer support won’t move a finger like in previous seasons.
This is true. Its pretty unfair, but other players are devising a solution to this issue. lol.

I just won a game with 3 thieves on my team. I would have been upset, if the enemy team would get the win in advance …
That’s not the point and you know it. 2 thieves with PVE titles on a three thief team against 2 DHs and 2 Warriors and a bunker Necro. Balancing could’ve put a DH and a War on each team. Instead it simply let one team bunker trap 2 points the whole game straight up, while the other 3 rotated between the two. We were fighting the matchmaking.
Then you get absolute trash like this.
Like seriously, MMR is only part of the issue
You might as well have handed them the pips in advance
They’re literally the closest 10 players to each other in terms of mmr.
That is the problem. Why aren’t raw statistics from in game performance not a part of someones mmr? In a team game, you could have 2-3 people who were carried individually by others through winning games.. and then end up with these 3 people together who only feed..
THANK. YOU. Someone gets it.
The best scores should get the most points or lose the least points, and the worst scores should win the least points and lose the most points. And it should be by a wide and pre-stated margin.
Then its actually more of a “skill rating”.
(edited by Enokitake.1742)
its your RNG team’s total skill/composition versus the other teams same things.
I bet Even could do a Ctrl+F on the match making code and not find the random number generator. That’s not how teams are formed. They’re literally the closest 10 players to each other in terms of mmr. Let me repeat that:
10 closest to each other.
Not random. Only in the sense that it only takes into account other people who are queuing at the same time as you, so sure there could be others closer to make a more even match.
If you played chess and ended with 8 pieces and the other 4 but you got checkmated, guess what you still lost. And real chess players use the same exact glicko system, based off wins and losses.
1) You’re assuming the original MMR determination was accurate at placing them to begin with. Since its W/L based its not. Its based on who else you got on your team and against your team during your initial MMR determination. Hence the problem.
2) Chess is a SOLO sport based only on YOUR skill. 5v5 pvp is NOT. Terrible analogy mate.
Just had to log out of this. The first 10 games were fun and I went 7/3. Then once the rating hit it was defeat, defeat, win, defeat, defeat. Just like previous seasons, there’s this “screw you wall” where the game just starts putting you into impossible matches. Absolutely no fun to have such poor quality match’s either.
Should have tanked the first 10 games and probably would have had a much more fun season. Now I’m locked into this for months.
I’m having a similar experience. The problem with W/L “skill meter” is that even IF you repeatedly get top stats on your team, and even if you HIGHLY contribute on a match by match basis, you only get up-ranked if the other 3-4 RNG’d members of your team are also good at sPVP. Otherwise you just head toward the 50/50% long term W/L average faster while watching teammates run to a mid with 4 enemy players on it instead of taking the sides. x.o
Its not really your skill that means anything, its your RNG team’s total skill/composition versus the other teams same things.
If it was actually based off your contribution/percentage of team stats, which we know is measured because its shown directly to us every match as a percentage, then it’d be skill based.
Are there any other games like this? Surely 8 years ago they should have sat down and designed a system they were happy with as the final pvp system in gw2. Then all their actions should have been to add features to get to this point.
But instead….just constant going back on themselves. What is going on? The amount of wasted effort must be huge.
This is a PvE game from the ground up. PvP is just a by-product… always has been with most MMO’s. WoW uses the same strategy.
There simply had never been a successful 100% PvP mmorpg game, so developers never go that route. You’re seeing all these changes because the game’s mechanical structure is Very hard to work with so… decisions are made.
Funny.. people said the opposite about GW1.
Yeah, but in fairness, most PVE encounters functioned similiar to PvP, in many cases you were fighting PVE mobs with past PVP meta builds. The mobs in this game aren’t intelligent enough to execute them.
They’ve had years to fix class stacking and they hadn’t, now you get matchups like this in single/duo queue ranked season
One class per team unless two of them duo queue together.
I guess my only question about the placement matches is this: Is our placement rating based on game stats or W/L?
If by game stats you meant he damage, healing, defense, etc, then no, those don’t factor into rating adjustments.
So it’s purely W/L? :|
Pity to all the scores getting killed by bad teammates.
Maxed out fractals here. Used to do it on Mesmer, did it on thief, hated it and went back to Mesmer, then after signet of illusion chrono nerf started on Rev.
Rev is great in high level fractals because of boon spam, constantly accessible healing [especially with critical rate increase with fury trait with heal on critical food, heal on usage of skill that costs energy, and vampire on side/back hit trait (trait not meta, most use +20% under 50%)]. Then use Shiro daggers and/or herald heal when you’re about to get bursted? Almost always full health, fairly high DPS. Plus excellent functionality otherwise.
Ventari Tablet helps you absorb projectiles, its essentially a lower cool-down wall of reflect/feedback.
I use sword+axe with hammer on glint/shiro. CC from axe and shiro elite, CC from hammer and glint elite. CC on staff if you use it. That’s 4 CCs easily accessible.
The one thing thief did have going for it was daze/blind spam on offhand pistol. That made sword/pistol pretty nice. Not enough though. Also blind wall and stealth running certain spots.
(edited by Enokitake.1742)
On the other side, thief is light armed, damage burst is weak, the only thing good might be the mobility, but this is not a car racing game.
…haha, what?
Rifles or riot.
This.
I don’t have a 1200-1500 range power/condi-weapon and you want me to sing songs and cast Battle Standard? Door is that way.

If you have commander tag go to the lions arch aeroport and go to the testing center for golems: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMXk8yFkYPU&feature=youtu.be
Actually the biggest disappointment for me at launch and still, is the lack of ability to save/share builds using templates.
I would swap builds several times in a session with a few clicks- no need for endless pieces of paper.
Not having that ability in GW2 feels like trying to play a class with one arm chopped off.
Many times do I think of switching my character build around but then I think of all the hassle of writing everything down and not losing it so i can switch back later on and end up just not bothering. It kills build diversity.
As for skill levels in GW2 compared to GW1, you’re comparing two different games, as GW1 was primarily a pvp game where skill and build really mattered whereas gw2 is more about casuals, pve and dumbed down pvp (mostly).GW1 a pvp game primarily? Weird cause although I did enjoy some of the pvp in GW1, I was mostly doing pve in there.
Most GW1 players probably either only did or mostly did PvE, which after 3 campaigns and one expansion in 4 years, there was a lot of to do. I don’t know why people think GW1 was mostly played for PVP, the population count balance was likely very different. To be fair, the organization and options of PVP mode were much better, and the build/character options far more plentiful and rewarding than GW2.
What if it looked like one of these?
That second picture is what eternity should look like.
Oh lord help me I want that.
Well starting off with the hardest class probably was a mistake
Try something easy before you roll mesmer.
Like guardian, warrior or thiefNo.
Yes
lol, you think Mesmer is the hardest? The class with phantasms, clones, stealth, F3 daze, F4 invuln, dps evade, shield4 2x block, blink, stealth, and ground target reflect walls? I hope you’re trolling.
In all seriousness OP: this is just a learn to play issue. You’ll learn over time.

He looks like he sells moonshine in a Halloween themed saloon.
Thread winner, the rest can all go home.
There are people already with the shoulders, of course it is doable. What it is not, is fun. Also, even if you somehow get into an instance for the JP, I highly doubt that anyone is doing 100 successful runs in two hours.
Aye. What we should be asking is how much karma they had saved up and how much money they dropped on the broker.
Since it’s part of the collection achievement, I say it’s very much intended.
An artificial gold sink, just worse than Nightfury: Make players pay sh|tloads of gold to buy crap they otherwise wouldn’t buy.
Thus remove gold from players, thus increase gems>gold convertes thus increase gem purchase.Business model explained in a nutshell.
Of course, if they “fix” this, I’ll gladly state something completely different.
Maybe something with elephants… ya… that’d be nice.
Yeah, this is the only thing I arrived at. Cause otherwise its just not logical.
3x of this, ok… 3x of that, ok… 10,000x random item that every player in the game who wants the shoulders will be going after at the same time which must be done before they remove the wintersday achievements that give the collection items.
…wait, What? o.O
Between this and the jump puzzle I’m probably going to just start selling my gifts to pay for future legendary. That 10K drinks totals 700-1,000 gold currently on the TP anyway.
Traps should automatically expire when their caster is out of 1200 range.
I’m also annoyed by my 18K-20K hp+ builds getting 1/2 to 3/4th drained by someone who’s killing a trebuchet halfway across the map. I can only imagine how annoying it would be for low HP class builds… or if the person who dropped them came back right after.
No. Please stop flushing good development time down this toilet. Especially if this is going to be the result.
Its not working, and just looking in the PVP forum this week and stream viewership recently will show you that its not going to work. They should be focused on providing more diversity in build options, more content for PvE/WVW/sPVP, and Balancing Classes.
Players make games e-sports. E-sports aren’t created by developers, they’re created by players. Up the game quality and let it happen on its own if its going to happen. At this point, does A-net think its current playerbase is going to be referring their friends to join? If the answer you get from the community is NO, you’re never going to have an E-sport irrelevant of the effort you put into it. If the PVP forum is raging about PVP staleness/leagues/balance, you’re not going to have an E-sport!
(edited by Enokitake.1742)
This is a serious irritation for me, simply because I was spoiled by the amount of selection you got in each GW1 campaign/expansion. Yes I know gw1 is gone, but still see here at the new options each addon campaign/expac brought:
Prophecies
Factions
Nightfall
EOTN
Keep in mind that in GW1 each class had its own armor. Necros couldn’t wear Ele armor and so on. Each elite armor for each class had a radically different design than other classes in the same armor weight from the same vendor. So if you had 1 elite armors for 10 classes at just that one vendor, that’s a whole new radically different 10 armor skin sets in the game from just that location, even if they did reuse models with skin edits like EOTN . And then you’d have 3-4 vendors for “elite” armor sets to skin out each char and special single glove and helmet skins. And that doesn’t include the non-elite skins.
For there to be so few armor sets in Heart of Thorns when classes in the same armor class can use the same skins is just lazy. For you to release 5 gem store outfits thereafter is just ….
I don’t buy this clipping excuse for outfits while we have a lack of new Armors/armor skins either. Its a cop out. We have wardrobes for a reason. Does something clip? Swap it out for another piece in the wardrobe. If it clips with your hair just gold to gems and hairstyle kit. A bad excuse is no excuse.

HAHA. Wow.
That is silent rage. The ultimate rage. The “there is no way” level rage. The rage that burns empires to the ground.
Anet, lord you kittened up.
I think you Cantha people will like this: http://www.callofcantha.vasburg.com/
That was actually pretty nice.
Bring Back (Long Live) Cantha.
Even if NCsoft kills it.
I wanted it to be GW1 with updated graphics and story line 250 years later, that held true to their design manifesto and the original. Same super high build customization options (mostly thanks to two profession system), lots of varied objective PVP modes (GVG, Hall of Heroes/Heroes Ascent, Jade Quarry, Fort Aspenwood, Conquest, Capture Flag, Alliance Battle, WvW, etc… not the same modes but at least equal variety), variety of elite zone content, multiple continents to visit, etc. Some of this will come with time, hopefully sooner.
Bought mine today at 330g after watching the gw2spidy moving averages. It sucks, but its done and I’m guaranteed to get it. Shortly after that the demand side buy orders rose back to 350g and sell price went back to 400 (in trading we called that “buying the dip”, pity its not for profit). If you think this is going down when the endless supply of ToT bags from Lab/Ascent/Mobs dry up after Halloween, you’re kind of dim on the topics of economics, probability, and scarcity. No offense. That’s “pure fantasy” like whoever said.
The only way this is going down is when demand goes down. And when people start walking around with Nightfury while everyone ooo’s and ah’s and link it in party/map/guild chat and say… “The only way you can get it now is buy endless batwing brew off broker or a 0.00001% chance from trick or treat bags” and there’s no consistent supply of Trick or Treat bags besides what’s been saved up by hoarders…
You know how that’s going to end. Kind of like Chaos of Lyssa recipe (but with a tiny tiny chance to effectively win the lottery). Furthermore everything has an opportunity cost, but that’s been said like 999 times in this thread.
I’m in a fractal 84 group on thermanova boss. Mass DC hits the game, and we’re all booted, we lose all progress on the map.
Ok. So I go to dragon stand. I hop in a decent map and fight for a full HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES to get to the dragon stand island boss. I use unrelenting assault on dragon champion staffmaster whatever when it spawns on my island, it CRASHES and I lose all progress on the map because “World is full” and I can’t get back in.
WTF Anet. If its going to be THIS unreliable, at LEAST put the same disconnect spacesaver you had in guild wars 1 into guild wars 2 so my place gets held on the same map.
Super irritated right now. Can’t do *ANY*thing with relying on preserving my progress.
There should be a non-massively overpriced or RNG’d recipe for turning rare single brews into exotic brews, implemented yesterday to counter this fiasco. This is the chart for brew since its inception, click all. It has never jumped in price as much as it did at 4pm today. Ever. In fact, before this month, it had never cleared 150 gold. Given the cost of the rest of the mats, that pretty unreasonable.
You can literally see the hoarders and gold flippers saving it for profit.
(edited by Enokitake.1742)
Congrats, but this is probably better displayed on youtube. :p
Arena Net writers are fans of inception.
I actually kind of liked this ending. I got more Tybalt. And the kill traeherne people have finally been sated. The only thing I didn’t like was getting patched out of the game while the Egg cutscene finished and forcibly reloaded, so I hope nothing happened after that.
(Did something happen after that?) :(((
Instant level 80, instant full ascended before I even exit the starter zone, then doing world completion +personal story for hero points for elite spec, by the time that’s done i’ll be good to go for Maguuma in terms of class knowledge. Then HoT for maguuma mastery and then SPvP for new legendary materials and practice.
I had a fun moment last game I played in PvP.
we were on forest of nilfheim, half the teams were up mid, duking it out as they always do. I was (attempting) to cap the henge/mine, keep us afloat points wise.
but these two necros and a mesmer wouldn’t let me. the second I was anywhere near capping, one of the necros would appear, and me, being a thief, would trot off like a kid found with a hand in the cookie jar. no point in fighting, especially not a necro (as a condi thief, I’ve got no chance).
on the rare occasion that I would be allowed to get away (staff 1 had a way of catching up to me, and if I stealthed I got AoE all over my face) I’d either find the other necro or their mesmer at the mine. suddenly, there’s no undefended points, no fights I can make a notable difference to, and I had no idea what to do. there was nothing to +1, no points being neglected, and nothing I could contribute.
it’s a pretty depressing feeling, if I’m honest.
This feeling is EXACTLY why I went back to Mesmer somewhere around rank 50. Dragon rank now, still Mesmer.
Oddly enough 53% of my PVP games are still thief class. Mesmer is only 34%, but growing. Warrior is most after that, at only 5%. Lol.
If you don’t want to do legendary grind, don’t make one. Go make ascended or just buy a set 1 legendary, which will drop in price as people get the set 2 legendary anyway. Same stats you just lose the ability to switch stats and leave footprints on the ground that look cool.
I haven’t made a single legendary since launch, sold every precursor, and I have zero disadvantage cause I own 6 sets of ascended armor/weapons and have the same stats as everyone with legendary.
You want to switch stats and leave footprints, do the work. Or don’t, and you’ll still have the same stats as everyone who won’t do the work, assuming you’re ascended.
Legendary is optional, legendary grind is optional, this isn’t “level your character up by doing a 10000 quests that gives you 1% of 1% of your level”. Its not required.
too much dodge
babies will whine
anet will listen
will get nerfed
don’t get attached
Will need to play it live to make final decision on this (…since Anet’s apparently finalized our class not having the option of a decent 1200 range weapon, or even the optional 1,050 range we previously had…)
Elite is kitten kittening nice though.
…also where are the traits?
they keep the best for last: a new and improved Ricochet, and all that jazz
One can only hope.
