NA population on EU

Recently one of my best friends (German) transferred from NA to EU. However, I am in the US but am considering transferring to EU to play with him. It would be awesome if the game allowed guesting to EU worlds sadly that is not the case. So I have two questions.

1. Are there any NA guilds on EU, I’m really a hardcore PvE content player (dungeons and fractals) but I’ll take anything if need be?

2. I usually play around reset or 9pm-2am PST does anyone know how active EU is during this time?

Just a reminder, this is still a bug. Also, I believe that is a similar issue to Mai Trin’s random teleport shots to the other side of the arena where no one is as well as Abomination in P2 (his rock). Seems like an AI tracking issue across the board.

One of my friends said that the Orbs in Arah p3 and p4 cannot be ran. When running the second orb, interacting near the door brings up the same dialog as if you didn’t have an orb at all and prevents progress. He sent me a video showing this but I have yet to test it as I am stuck at work.

Can anyone verify?

Sorry your having trouble finding a group. I would suggest you find a guild on NA for dungeons like LOD, DnT, TDE etc.

Your welcome to whisper me if you see me on we have a regular group that speed runs dungeons and fractals nightly. However, we expect quite a bit from everyone to make them as fast as possible but if your up to the challenge/have the skill level feel free to whisper me in game and we’ll give ya a shot.

I cannot see Celestial being better in any case. Direct damage accounts for over 80-90% of your overall DPS losing 10% in this area for a minor stat increase in other areas is a complete waste. Especially when you consider that in a decent group if your good you will be above 90% HP 100% or close to 100% of the time making any non damage related stats useless. Also, since Elementalist has almost provides no damaging conditions in the current meta (except burning) this makes even your condition damage and duration that you gain useless as well.

All in all Celestial is just lackluster in every way compared to Berserker’s

To my knowledge, Elementals will spawn in groups of 5 every 25% and they spawn regardless of how many are alive. We usually kill the two Elementals that spawn closest to us and LOS them on one of the tents then DPS the source and repeat. You could try having a Guardian aggro them and pull them away from the group but to my knowledge the source will still spawn 5. If the guardian was able to stay up and keep aggroing them every phase I could see it working in theory.

Most PuGs melee him these days unless everyone in the group is extremely in-experienced. But I haven’t seen this in well over a year. Having said that, groups will kick players who are not in melee as all it does it prolong the fight since he will constantly walk away from you and teleport all over the place which is annoying as kitten. Groups not using reflects then by nature are just a time bomb waiting to happen.

Lupicus is largely the same. If you have never soloed him, i would recommend Warrior first since it is easiest in my opinion. Thief and Guardian also have a pretty easy time especially with the auto attack change.

I would recommend 6/5/0/0/3 on Warrior for Fast hands with Mace/Sword (Undead on mace, Energy on Sword) and Greatsword. The idea is that you will use Mace #2 for his auto attack, Sword #5 for bigger attacks, Whirlwind, Dodge, Weapon Swap to proc energy sigil when needed. If you want to be extra safe take Signet of Stamina for one of your utilities. You want to stay on Greatsword as much as possible since this is your highest DPS weaponset. Also, Whirlwind has a short cooldown and swapping to Mace/Sword will instantly give you another dodge. With this setup you can easily fight him solo out of the wall even post patch.

Brazil from DnT has a Lupicus guide that is very detailed although it doesn’t cover the changes to his auto attack but you’ll get the hang of it.

Ana is right, PuGs just one shot him because they don’t know how to fight him. He is still solo-able he is just more of a pain now due to his spammable auto attack in phase 2 and 3. This has no effect on organized groups due to reflect rotations and really soloers for the most part (certain classes suffer) but really hurts PuGs and new players the most and really needs to be fixed.

Elementalists seem pretty broken to me

First of all maybe it is just me and my personal experiences may come down to me being a medicore player.

The Topic:

From what i can see Ele’s are the top profession of any gametype.

In PvE they offer the biggest DPS in the game + soft and hard cc, amazing support lots of fields and lots of finishers. I mean its pretty hard to make an argument for filling the slots with anything non ele when you have a guard already.

In PvP the Celestial varriant can beat about any other class in 1v1 and shrug of conditions as well as direct damage while dealing great damage themselves. Zerker with focus offer allmost no counterplay because all the spells are instant casts with instant procs from fire/air sigill. Even then they get all of that from their weapons and can take all the defensive utility they want.

In WvW they are the main source of Damage and can lay waste to entire Zergs. As well as sustain their own with waterfields and harrass the enemy with static fields. They also make excelent roamers and scouts.

I get that elementalists are supposed to be able to do many things but right now they seem to be the best at everything.

In PvE, Thief is the biggest DPS in the game on single targets and AoE if using Icebow. They will out DPS an Elementalist is most cases. Elementalist being ranged with Staff however does make it easier for them to do so without worry but at the same time Elementalist makes a Thief look tanky as kitten and I feel they are balanced.

CC wise, Thief has a spam-able CC that is used by organized groups to remove defiant stacks so that other members can Deep Freeze a boss. The next longest CC in the game is actually Technobabble a racial Asuran skill available to all classes. Your also forgetting about stealth something used by all game types and is very important for many things (skipping trash, surprising enemies, disengaging) which Thief is best at by far and Elementalist has no access to whatsoever. This said why even bring Elementalists at all?

In PvP, this is seriously not even true by any means. Elementalists from D/D to S/* and Staff are easily destroyed by most classes. Thief, Necro, Mesmer, Warrior, Guardian all completely dump an Elementalist 80% of the time. Elementalist takes so much more skill to play however and to play well and it’s pretty balanced at the moment. Most of their DPS in regards to S/* which is the build your referring to is around their burst chain with Phoenix, Dragon Tooth, and Air burst and can be avoided just fine. After this they are harmless.

In WvW, the king is AoE and Staff is the best at AoE damage. Remember that AoE can only hit 5 targets so a single Elementalist destroying a zerg is fiction and just won’t happen. That said, AoE is the focus of the weapon and for this reason this will be the case. With the nerf to Engineer grenades this only pushes this further. However, nerfing a class into the ground is not the way to fix a mechanics issue. Specializations and HoT gives them the opportunity to provide classes with more AoE type skills at the cost of survivability.

hopefully they forget to put it back in :-) That fractal is definitely my least favorite due to the time gate.

Comments like these are part of the reason they do not care about dungeons and fractals and why we will never get anymore of them. I personally enjoy this fractal, speak for yourself. There is a lot of downtime in it though due to things that cannot be sped up like the drill and the weapons test.

Actually yes, we use it for Static Field on Alpha in CoE to keep the essence from healing him. We use it in Fractals on Reactor for the same reason. We use it for the knockback on occasion as well. Like any weapon set, some of the skills are utility related and it is balanced just fine as it is right now.

Icebow on the other hand is all over the place. Auto heals and does extremely low damage wtf? Skill 2 is a rapid fire like skill but pre-buff only worse. Skill 3 only use it when your standing on the boss basically or it sucks as well. Skill 4 first reason to use it and drop it for the strong AoE DPS. Skill 5 best CC in the game at the moment.

Realistically I do not believe we will see any Conjures in any game time after the patch goes through. They are lackluster at best, the nature of them was to Conjure a powerful weapon to turn the tide of battle none of them fulfill this roll in their current state or ever have really. Looking at what they did to FGS I very highly doubt the changes to Icebow or Lightning Hammer will leave them in a usable state.

I think he has a valid point. This upcoming patch has at least four substantial nerfs to the standard elementalist play. Therefore, I think it’s very reasonable to determine that the game is no longer fun to play.

One of the key problems that I see with the upcoming changes is that they seem to take a lot of the fun out of the game in exchange for making it easier to balance PvP. Obviously some people will decide that it’s not worth it.

Also, speaking vehemently and expressing displeasure is not unhealthy. It’s cathartic. What’s unhealthy is bottling up your feelings or saying things deliberately designed to provoke people who are upset.

I just have enough nerfs in this game, every patch in this kitteny game ele was nerfed since beta while every other classes get boosted and boosted all time, just look on warriors now, ele didn’t get SINGLE boost since beta, you learn to your hard combos etc while kittenY ranger press 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 do nothing just press 2 and deal much more dmg than your hard made combos this is ridiculous and im done with this game, anet have no idea how to balance this game

Don’t even compare Elementalist to Warrior. I have mained both, Warrior has ONLY been nerfed with every balance change since the beginning of the game and are absolute trash in most cases. This patch is actually a good thing for them and will balance them out significantly. As for Elementalist, yes these are pointless nerfs and are unjustified.

I hope you realize celestial Nerf is only for PvP not pve.

Who cares about PvP? This game has literally the worst PvP I have ever seen in a game. It has great potential for all game types but ArenaNet’s dream of making it an eSport is ruining it for everyone. It obvious they have no clue how to balance it.

Imo, the “real” problem isnt fresh air in pvp, it was the fact that eles did so much damage in pve that no other classes were ever needed, except to give eles buffs, which lead to anyone on a necro/mesmer/ranger/ect. being almost instakicked from groups (I know only bad pugs do this, but its still something that got complained about a lot)

Seriously, if air attunement is being “nerfed” specifically for one part of the game, its the one where groups typically run 2-3 eles per party (pve), not the ones where people barely ever run them except for cele/bunker specs (wvw + pvp) who didnt even spec into air in the first place.

The fact that conjures are being nerfed at the same time makes this seem even more likely, though its all still just a guess.

This isn’t the problem at all. While it is true this is because of the large hit boxes for bosses and the fact that Icestorm for example will hit many many many times on a boss like the TA boss for example. It’s more like shooting off 5 icestorms instead of just one. This is an extreme example but this is the case for most bosses.

The reason Necro/Mesmer/Ranger/Engi are kicked from groups is not because Ele’s need more buffs to do damage although this is nice for everyone. It is because these classes do not have much to provide to the group in terms of support be that damage, reflects, condi cleanse, damage buffs, etc and need a buff in this area to be viable. Also this list is honestly just limited to Necromancer only.

Thief honestly does very high damage to rival an Elementalist and beat it even with its own Icebow. You could just as easily bring 1 Guardian and 4 Thieves and melt bosses just as fast or faster in some cases. It just so happens that Elementalist is mindless to play with a Staff build and it has great burst due to the broken hit boxes and the 25 vuln cap that it can reach with the buffed Lightning Storm so there is no reason to bring other classes.

Personally two friends of mine and myself carry pugs daily through different dungeons and we don’t care who joins. However, if they keep making changes like this is going to keep lowering damage and it will push players to kick classes that are worse by nature as damage will be more and more important.

Personally I’m not very excited about HoT as it is. I’d rather them put their development resources towards new dungeons, fixing old dungeons, adding features to dungeons, fractals, elite zones (from gw1), challenging group content, raids and these kinds of things. For the last two years, they have been focusing on mindless zerg farming and boring/silly story lines, events, and living world content.

Tl;Dr: I don’t care when HoT comes out, give us fun content, fix old content, or add something fun and challenging into HoT for us to do.

/s is not common to my knowledge for sarcasm but sure why not. Also I doubt the change was PvE related pretty sure it has to deal with Icebow in Stronghold not why change Lightning Hammer.

What they should be doing is changing how damage is calculated for hit boxes. (ie. If a hit is detected on a target, that skill/projectile/whatever cannot hit the same target again on any hitbox). This is mainly why Icebow and Meteor Shower are OP on large targets or gates for example. This should be changed first which would fix a lot of the problem and then they can balance the damage if it needs it.

D/F nerf is completely unwarrented for any reason. In my eyes, they need to completely revert the Air changes as they are all just bad in everyway.

Guys stop flaming about it. Sure it sucks but instead of just being negative about it, give them ideas of things they can do to fix it. You really think they are going to listen to you when your always so negative and outright mean to them? Sure more communication would be nice and I feel like we get ignored more than the rest of the community but they are human and they still deserve respect and some form of decency.

TO ANET: Since this is going to take a week or more, can you please revert this change at the very least until you can fix it properly. Spending hours of our game time to play content which cannot be completed for the possible reward of a Fractal Skin (the only reason we do fractals) is completely absurd. Out of 3 fractal attempts today we got Molten all 3 times which we had to abandon and start over. If nothing else, remove Molten from the rotation until this is fixed. I understand you dis-like those who exploit it by “safe spotting” and you have the right to fix it when you wish and I encourage it. However, another week of people taking advantage of it isn’t going to hurt anything it’s already been like this for well over a year.

Is Battle Standard ever going to get fixed?

Battle Standard has always worked like this and as far as I know it is the intended behavior. Agony and poison reduce healing power and thus make it not revive.

If you take a look at how downstate works in general, Vapor Form for example. You will notice that in the combat log it says “Vapor Form heals you for x” and “Vapor Form hits you for x” the same is the case with Vengeance on warrior. When you consider this, this is no “revive button”. You get in and out of downstate by healing and damage this is how the mechanics of the game work and how skills work in general. Battle Standard works like this and I believe the other class revive skills as well. That said, they could make it heal for 33% more while under poison or agony if this is not intended.

From the wiki: Poison and Agony’s healing reduction is effective on downed allies, making it take longer to revive them. They can also cause revival skills to not fully revive an ally.

Personally I think not all fights need to be melee friendly. Ranged Lupi is kind of fun, I had a good time ranging him when gw2 was new, those were the days .. :p

That’s just makes reflects even more required for that fight, nothing else. You go ranged when you have profession like necros who lacks evades and projectile defense.

If you are ranged and spread out you don’t need any reflects, just the ability to dodge, which is doable, if the projectile has to actually travel a bit to reach you. (and Lupi will choose fairly random targets for it too, unlike how it would hit a stacked “meleeblob”)

Why bother ranging when you can just one shot him with an organized group with your “meleeblob” or just throw a Wall of Reflect above Lupi. Everyone says it’s not an exploit and pugs do it all the time so why would you waste your time.

That’s his own fault for sucking at the game. Blind and Aegis hello! LH is so slow he could easily have perma blinded you.

LH doesn’t need a nerf it’s not OP by any means. All of these poor changes to Elementalist are making me want to go back to Thief. #RipEle

How about something like the Queen’s Gauntlet gambits for dungeons. Would love to see this, pay 1 dungeon token or 10 to enable a gambit which gives increased rewards per gambit.

Been suggested many times, not sure why they don’t want to, it’d be a nice thing to make dungeons a bit more entertaining.

Yes I am aware of this but thanks for mentioning it. It was even datamined at one point to my knowledge. Just wanted to bring it back up as I feel this is a great idea and needs more attention.

They could add the following as examples:

  • Exhausted – Out of Endurance (Energy sigils and traits affecting endurance are disabled)
  • Weakened – Permanent Weakness, cannot be removed
  • Escalating Trouble – Killing a boss causes it to revive and follow you around the dungeon (similar to Mossman in Fractals lvl 31). Or fighting a boss causes another random boss from the same dungeon to spawn at the same location (would have to be limited obviously due to some boss mechanics). Or mobs would spawn randomly around the boss from the same dungeon (elite hunter, ele, mage, illusionist etc for Arah for example)
  • Frail – Increase incoming damage by 100%, negates protection
  • Plagued – Gain a random condition every 10 seconds that lasts for 10 seconds.
  • Ticking Time Bomb – Gain a debuff in combat lasting for x amount of time. When the debuff expires, you are instantly killed (no downstate). Debuff is removed when you are out of combat and resets when you re-enter combat.
  • Spotted – You cannot stealth
  • Not Critical – Enemies cannot be critically hit

There are many gambits that could be thought of or better ways to do them these are here merely as examples.

  • Might on rez trait? Really is this a joke? Who’s actually going to use this…definitely not me. If you insist on promoting your team dying then at least change it to give regen, protection, and or aegis while rezing. I have a few things to say about the patch.

First off Elementalist:

  • Staff is in a pretty good place right now. However, it is the most boring build in the game by far to play. Buffing this weapon set is not what we need leave it as is.
  • D/F and S/* are extremely fun and quite challenging to play correctly. I was really hoping to see D/F get buffed to the point where it would revival Staff but this does not seem like it will happen. D/F really depends on Fresh Air and Air Training to make it even somewhat viable in it’s current state and these trait changes will effectively nerf it into the ground in PvE. ArenaNet seriously needs to consider moving Bolt to the Heart back to adept or master level and giving us back Air Training to make this bearable or it will ruin the class for many people and it will not be played as much.
  • Bolt to the Heart is in no way Grandmaster worthy. Necromancer and thief both have a similar trait but it procs when your target is below 50% not 33%. This makes this trait a 13% DPS increase at best and 7% at worst this is nothing to write home about. S/* in PvP is in a pretty good spot its pretty balanced right now in my opinion. Forcing someone to pick between fresh air and Bolt to the Heart is just kittened.
    *Lightning Hammer and Icebow. I can see the nerf justification for Icebow however I think it needs to be done in an appropriate manor. Sure Deep Freeze is OP but that will be obsolete with the new defiant changes anyways and if that is the reason for the nerf then reduce the stun duration by all means.

1.) Lower the number of projectiles but leave its damage in-tact is the best way I see to bring it inline with other skills. This would give it a purpose still.

2.) An even better solution, would be to fix hit boxes and hit detection so that any one skill can only proc damage once per boss or per target. Icebow is only such strong DPS because of the fact that one projectile hits many times on a single target. This is the same issue with Lightning Hammer 4, Lightning Storm, Meteor Shower and many other skills and in my opinion it does not deserve a nerf but rather a hitbox detection fix.

  • Lightning Hammer nerf. Are you serious? This skill is not OP by any means period. It’s damage is similar to that of Lightning Whip nothing more. This is used after the S/* burst in PvE which is primarly for might stacking and LH is to supplement the seriously crappy auto attack on all Scepter skills. I’m not saying Scepter should be buffed and it shouldn’t as this would completely break PvP. But LH is never really used in PvP anyways so I don’t see an issue here they really need to think long and hard about this especially since all Conjured weapons were complete crap about a year ago until they were buffed to bring out more builds and I believe they are in a decent place right now. Are we really just going to nerf them into the ground again to be as useless as Spirit Weapons?
  • Honestly these changes really put me off as I personally do not find camping staff lava font and auto attack on fire very fun. I was really hoping to see D/F be comparable to staff however all I see is nerfs for the other 2 builds we have at the moment and really puts Elementalist in a bad spot. Wasn’t the idea of Elementalist in the first place to pull off some sick skill combos for massive damage? Apparently ArenaNet has shifted the classes focus. Maybe I’m missing something but this is what it seems.

Necromancer:

  • I don’t see a single change worthy to bring a Necromancer in PvE. Maybe Greatsword will be a thing but considering they still have no group support it would require Necromancer to be capable of 16k+ DPS to even be considered in my opinion which would obviously break PvP and I just don’t see it happening. These changes are very underwhelming and quite sad. I really had hoped they would give this class a chance to shine but I guess thats not the case.

In General:
I feel that a majority of the changes will change the game in a major way which is both a positive and a negative thing. However, I feel that pushing classes towards a particular build and the ways that many of these changes are implemented are just poor and not thought out and change the nature of many classes in general. They also are forcing certain classes towards a very specific playstyle and build that I find is bad for the game. In my opinion, classes should have several playstyles and builds open to them that are viable for all game types not just PvP or PvE or WvW. That said, I think they really need to consider balancing the game around all game types or splitting skills or traits in game types or even entire specs. I know this is a lot more work for balance however it would really make a lot more people happy. These are some of my thoughts on these purposed changes and hope that someone at least considers the impact this will have on the game and the classes.

This is going to be like the vote kick change. A few months of “I’ll get back to you” before a change goes in randomly with no word back whatsoever. It’s not a huge deal but I wish we could at least have a “The developers told me what happened was ‘x’, they are planning to do ‘y’, I can’t give you a time but it’s on their short list of bug fixes.”

Exactly, it’s not the fact it got messed up. Sure its annoying but I’m not mad about that. I’m mad that they won’t reply and let us know if it was intended or not and the fact they stuff like this doesn’t make it into patch notes on purpose meaning we have to keep guessing if it was fixed or not and test everything after every patch.

I am a Software Developer and I understand not everything is an instant fix and things can be more complicated than they appear. But we didn’t really ask for one, just if it was intend or not and if they will look into it.

Tl;Dr We need more communication from the ArenaNet team.

But that sucks, I get punished because I’m an experienced player… I’ve been with Guild wars from first game to this day, but this honestly first time I felt this mistreated. I feel so frustrated with this.

I’m sorry that happened to you, I feel your pain as this has happened to me many times while selling Arah or trying to explain tactics to pugs which is why I stopped or if I do sell to make sure I have 3 spot holders so this cannot happen and why I kick pugs who join without reading LFG or listening. Unfortunately, that’s life and there’s nothing you can do about it but report them.

I’ll never understand why it’s so difficult for anyone to simply say whether a major change in behavior is intentional and whether it will be reverted or not. Is it really too much to ask?

Seriously, how long does it take to say “yes we meant to do that” or “I didn’t even know Lupicus changed and ask around”

PvE for open world: Greatsword + Sword/Warhorn and Bulls Charge. You get perma swiftness with the Signet of Rage when you unlock them.

PvE for dungeons or DPS: Greatsword + Axe/Mace

PvP: Axe/Sword + Bow (Axebow), Hammer + Bow (Hambow), or Sword/Warhorn + Bow (Shoutbow)

Don’t be so snarky. Maybe devs are trying to get to the Lupicus and check what’s happening but pugs keep kicking them for not being zerk?

I think its far more likely that in trying to solo Lupicus to test phase 2 and 3 for this bug. The pistol/pistol thief forgot to unlock Ricochet due to the new trait unlock system and is dying to the locust and occasional hunters being spawned.

Depends on your goals. If you want to play in PvP, then by all means Necromancer while not in the PvP meta can be very fun and is a pretty good class.

However, if you plan to PvE there is not much saving grace everything the class does another class does better. This may change with HoT but considering that the game is balanced around PvP I highly doubt it.

tl;dr:
PvE – no
PvP – yes

Guardian having low hp? Nice joke, while they have low “sheet” HP they have very high “effective” HP. With the built-in regen, blocks, invuln, blinds, cc etc. They are actually one of the most tanky classes when played right even going full Medi DPS in PvP and PvE.

From my experience, Guardian will survive longer than a Warrior with a comparable spec everytime.
