Anet cut off your player supply by ruining hotjoin with the team swap exploit,
now when people quit the game there aren’t new players coming in to fill the gaps.
all of the people who said “who cares, its only hotjoin.” had it coming.
regarding ele’s signet: there’s a gm trait that allows them to utilize both the active and passive parts at the same time. it’s pretty stong with that
but noone would ever take the GM trait when it shares the slot with complete god mode against condition specs and immunity to condition CCs (like fear and immobilize).
they’re adding a tell they’re not nerfing it.
they’re just making the knockback look different than an auto attack.
STILL no fix for the hotjoin team swap exploit…

for me the fun of warrior is seeing how much ludicrously high damage i can do in Spvp,
no matter the weapon, i have a hammer build with 90% crit chance and 4k crits.
i have a dual axe build with the final attack of the auto chain dealing 7k.
i have a greatsword build which i’ve hit people for 23k Hundred Blades with,
warrior is the ultimate berserker class, and therein lies the fun for me
not to mention you can get from point to point ridiculously fast with greatsword/sword swapping and Warrior Sprint.

I.E, you gain health when you attack rather than when you’re hit.
it could also deal a small amount of damage and be effected by Bloodthirst.
the active could increase the effectiveness of all life steal healing by a huge percentage for a short time meaning the 40ish heals you get from traits like Vampiric become something like 300ish heals.

the aim of this elite was to give thief a way to reliably ambush unsuspecting enemies,
other than blowing shadow refuge around a corner and then hoping you make it to your enemy in the 11 second window, thief has no way to stealthily ambush someone without them knowing you’re there.
all of the current forms of stealth have incredibly short durations, require attacking a target or have high costs and obvious ground effects.
id rather have it something like
Camuflague
-Can only be used outside of combat
-3 second activation
-duration 45 secs
-Trappers patience (TRAIT) increases the duration of camuflague by 5 second for each trap you equip (+15s max,making it 60/60R time)
-recharge 60 second
-UNSTEALTH IF MOVED
-When unstealthed gain fury and swiftness for 10 seconds and stability for 5 seconds
Would be fun to set a bunch of traps and wait in stealth till someone walks by and springs the traps
i do like this idea, and its kinda what i was going for with emphasism on staying around the same spot while stealthed
The issue is not team swapping.
The issue is that entire matches are 4v5 the whole way through, because people don’t want to join the losing team for minimal rewards
if they fixed team swap then the matches would have far greater balance and closer scores, removing the need to sit out of a 4v5.
obviously a landslide will happen some times because one team simply outskills the other,
but generally it would be far more competitive so people would’nt feel as inclined to pass up a 4v5 which they are very capable of winning.
also i can’t speak for everyone but i personally don’t play hotjoin for the wins, i play it for fun, if i have a 5v5 close game and lose i’ll still have far more fun than a 3v5 landslide win.
seriously! a class whose main mechanic is Stealth actually has very few ways to enter stealth out of combat!
i propose a new elite that would grant constant stealth but make you move at walking pace or slower.
this would be a 2 chain skill
Assassin’s Patience
gain stealth, move 90% slower.
Cast time: instant
Duration: 64
Recharge: 60
(so letting it tick down without using the 2nd skill would let you keep perma-stealth)
upon using the 2nd skill in the chain Assassin’s Ambush, the movement penalty is removed, you gain Might+Fury (durations/stacks would need testing) but the stealth duration is cut to 3-5 seconds, the skill goes on cooldown.
(the reason for making it 2 parts is that while moving at -90% you will find it very difficult to actually ambush your enemy, the 2nd part will give you a short window of full movement)
the aim of this elite is to allow thieves to truly feel like sneaky assassins and have the element of surprise but without allowing them to zip around wvw/pvp/dungeons unhindered.
theres an ongoing thread in the general discussion forum about Anet’s lack of transparency (and in the case of pvp, utter silence)
Gaile Gray, a veteran at Anet has tried to calm the situation with the usual corporate style spiel, but she also added something which i think was a bit more human:

So to you, Mr/Mrs Pvp Dev i would bring up the issue of team swapping in Spvp,
while we’d like to know everything, “are you aware of it? is it intended? is it going to be fixed? when?”
at this point i’d settle for the basic info. “are you aware of it” and “is it intended?”
because since it was added (intentionally or not), it has done nothing but ruin every single match, and not a single word has been uttered by Anet about it.
so some base level communication would atleast give us a shimmer of hope for the future or put us out of our misery.
and to my fellow players i’ll say this before the “its only hotjoin” crowd arrive,
when new players come to pvp do you really think they’ll stick around after several unbearable 3v5 landslides?
hotjoin is what makes or breaks the pvp community, if new players have fun in hotjoin then they’ll stick around, if they don’t, then our community continues to bleed out players without new players coming in to fill the gaps, our community dies away.

HGH engis have constantly 20+ might,
and since their build revolves around elixirs they usually have Elixir B (fury)
and Elixir X (the transforms)
i have 2 lv 80 necros and haven’t played terror in months
one is a power wellomancer the other is a MM (for teh lulz)
both seem to be getting the job done!
so to say
the entire class is balanced around this one skill.
just is’nt true,
however i agree with you that alot of the variety seems to have gone from the necro,
too many players are flocking to whatever they consider the current meta build.
terror could use some tweaking, maybe decrease its damage but merge the traits to make it less build defining.
if people keep asking for past pvp content to be added then i’ll gladly take an Air Filtration Device , Wings of the Sunless and some super weapon skins

well for a time they kept everyone hooked with promises of future content,
it was only when the months started to tick by and people started to ask “so…where is it?”
that they decided that it may not have been the best idea ever, so now they just remain silent as the grave.

just this alone would improve pvp x1000
the exploitable nonsense is forcing new and old players away from pvp.
(speaking as someone whos played hotjoin since beta but has only played once in the past 2 weeks because exploitable 3v5s ARE NOT FUN.)

bring back 8v8 hotjoin,
give us an option to 5v5 or 8v8.
some people believe that the function of hotjoin is to prepare people for rated matches

i believe hotjoin is there to be FUN, by having 5v5 and 8v8 everyone is happy.

Skyhammer:
-Skyhammer has been removed from tournament queues and Hotjoin rotation,
-You can still play Skyhammer in custom arenas.
Spectator:
-it is no longer possible to join the team with the most points.
-additionally once you have chose to spectate on a match that you were playing,
you can only rejoin your previous team.
Hotjoin:
-8v8 servers are back, you may now choose to play either 5v5 or 8v8.
-Removed the cap on Reward Track progression via hotjoin.
can you imagine? 8v8 fun back, no team swap exploit, no skyhammer

it’d probably set our minds at ease if they’d atleast fix the team swap exploit in hotjoin,
its been bought up repeatedly for months, there is no way Anet don’t know about it,
it is ruining every single match, it is turning away new and old player alike.
the fact that it is getting ignored while pve exploits get hotfixed within a week is extremely disheartening,
spvp might not be dead to us, the players,
but it certainly seems to be to Anet.
This ability needs a cooldown on it. I’m sick of being hit repeatedly with 7-9k backstabs
you just said you’re a ranger too, how do you think the thieves feel about you dealing just as much damage as backstab but from 1500 distance every 8 seconds…
also i’m not sure if you’re in Spvp or not, but for a thief to hit 9k they’d need to spec specifically for backstab (read squishy) and pop cooldowns (read signets), be in melee range(read very likely to die), behind the target and in stealth.
for a ranger to deal 9k they only need a zerker/assassin amulet, a half decent spec and to click #2 from afar.
tl;dr backstab is fine.

well i was mostly on about necro’s with scepter
i tend to find a pro ele is godly, but an average ele is cannonfodder.
(i play zerkers of pretty much every class)
i’d probably guess mesmer,
in pve they’re a pain in the butt to level. (due to clones/phantasms needing to be resummoned every NPC you kill. and lack of decent AoE)
i’d wager there are less lv 80 mesmers than any other class,
in pvp they’re generally not as easy to faceroll with until you learn them.
it would be so easy to fix the exploit that ruins every single match,
yet anet refuse to do so, highly frustrating…
even something as simple as disabling team select if they don’t have the time to improve it with restrictions.
(because we all know that the pvp devs are so very busy.)
funny how whenever a pve exploit appears it is hotfixed within a week,
a pvp exploit exists that ruins every match and it goes ignored for months…

Yep 8v8 was way more fun and you had be much more situationally aware than the tedium of 3 capping points and 5 players to watch (sometimes 4 players). Hmmm really hard to learn. Dudes goes here so you go there. When 2 dudes go there you go here. Tricky stuff.
Yeah, sure, let’s pretend that’s all you need to know as a beginning player.
A Bunker needs to learn how to defend against two (or three) players, which is unlikely to happen in 8v8. A mobile player needs to learn to escape from just a couple of players which, again, is unlikely to happen in 8v8. The amount of CC is just bigger.
lets be realistic, hotjoin doesn’t prepare you for rated matches in the slightest…
if thats the reason for it being 5v5 then a new unrated queue should be added to fill that niche.
in hotjoin you’ll find a huge array of interesting builds, you might even be playing one yourself while you run between all of the points without a solid strategy in the casual atmosphere.
now go to tournaments and your team will tear you “a new one” for having an interesting build and your enemies will faceroll you with their attack-of-the-clones copy/paste meta builds.
they are totally different, hotjoin is for fun, tournaments are for focusing on rewards and elitism,
8v8 was amazingly fun, and so it should be bought back to hotjoin.
believe it or not, some of us play for fun.
saying “they should make new maps for it” is pretty much saying “don’t bring it back” because lets be real, its Anet, we’ve got 3 maps in 2 years, and one of those is universally loathed.
it worked fine back when it was 8v8.
it was more fun back when it was 8v8.
it was better balanced back when it was 8v8.
they should bring back 8v8.
sign, signed, a thousand times signed!
but they need to remove/fix spectator and team select exploit.
make hotjoin as it was at the beginning, FUN.
they can keep 5v5 servers too, just as it was at the beginning,
but give us back our 8v8!
i’ve heard a few suggestions,
the most popular being to simply increase the damage,
another is to make it a kit like charzooka,
a third interesting suggestion is to turn it into a turret that automatically fires at any enemy in range.
i just hope they do something with it, it is utterly useless at the moment, you’re better off auto attacking with and weapon/kit.

i’ve been running 6/5/0/0/3 GS, 4 signet, Assassin in hotjoin and had some pretty hilarious 20k+ hundred blades (with 23k as my highest so far) XD
the QQ that follows once they see it in their death breakdown is the best bit
imho all of this meta defense tree, bow, bow, bow, dual stance nonsense just trivializes everything, playing as a zerker makes things exciting

you should always have Bolas on your bar if you plan on playing greatsword,
your other CC is subject to stability, but not Bolas,
for me it is the perfect setup for 100b.
also for me i sacrifice my weapon swap for sword and shield (with hydromancy and endurance sigils) and always use “Warrior’s Sprint” and “Fast Hands”,
i play a zerker but die very little since if things aren’t going my way i can get out of the fight and NOTHING can catch me
this combo also makes you the best of the best for running between points giving you a huge advantage since “Conquest” is all about capping the points.
warrior is not a necromancer,
if you want to play this game then we could list all of the warrior skills that are ridiculously above the competition,
Wells have 40s cooldown, lets give Combustive shot a 40s cooldown.
Signet of vampirism requires you to get hit to heal, lets make healing signet require you to get hit to heal.
hundred blades deals 20k dmg, lets make necro axe #2 deal 20k damage.
you can’t compare them…
warrior is not necromancer,
adrenaline is not life force.
you can thank the team swap exploit for that.
funny isn’t (it, people find a way to exploit the system in pve, it gets fixed within 2 weeks,
people find a way to exploit the system in pvp, it gets ignored for months…
this exploit has ruined pvp for me, i’ve not logged on since last wednesday,
but all anet only seem to care when its their precious pve.
also yeah, 8v8 was the most fun i’ve had in pvp,
before skyhammer, before 5v5, before swapping exploits,
basically before Anet ruined everything.

as someone who knows the value of unobtainable items i grinded for months to save enough money to buy greatsaw, (i’ve been pretty poor ever since)
if they bring it back then it would very likely be the final straw for me.I don’t understands this mentality; it seem pretty selfish to me. Why shouldn’t new players get the option to grind for some of the cools stuff? Recycling doesn’t change the fact that you already grind’d for the items and this time you can grind for something different. What are we 3 years old, nah nah I have something you don’t have. Makes no sense.

new players have just as much ability to grind their butts off for months and months to get a little bit of the past as any of us.
i failed to get it from a chest so i did the long grind.
lets pretend you spent months farming for something, because few people have it and you want your character to have something special (there are very few special things left in the game), finally your months of work are over and….they add an easy way for everyone to get the (now commonplace) item that you wasted months acquiring.
to say “oh thats selfish!” is the real thing that makes no sense,
when you spend months of your free time grinding to obtain something special and then it has all of its value torn away, everyone would feel exactly the same as i will if they recycle it.
luckily the datamined halloween notes don’t indicate a recycle.

You do know that it being a “rare” skin does not really make it at all “prestigious”, right? I get that you want it to remain “rare” and hard to obtain, but make no mistake that I can pull out my CC and slap that skin on a LVL 10 Bronze Greatsword whenever I want.
That “special” feeling you have running around with it is ALL in your head, and there is nothing wrong with that as long as you don’t ACT like you performed some great feat to obtain it.

1. its 2000g, even if you broke the rules and bought gold (perhaps ending in a ban) it’d still cost you a small fortune.

as each one sells the price goes higher and higher.
i’d wager there are less than 100 in total in banks waiting to be sold, and there are hundreds of thousands of players.
once they’re gone they’re gone.
they are far more prestigious than these “legendary” weapons you’ll see 20 people standing around with in the cities.
but lets face it, they’ll probably ruin it and trivialize the halloween skins just like everything else.

its only a tiny minority of the pvp playerbase that take part in these tournaments,

imho the rewards are fine,
they should fix the exploitable system that is ruining each match.
nerfing the win reward and buffing the loss reward is not the answer,
people would still abuse the system to be on the winning team anyway if they’re outnumbered.
every time i make a comment or suggestion i get infracted,
so i’m at the point where i just play less and less, the direction they’re going is down,
but i’m done making suggestions and getting punished for it,
i’ll just play less and less while they think up new ways to ruin it.

imho i’m never quite as happy on my zerker power ranger as when i see a thief.
they’re ranger fodder.
same goes for my zerker staff ele, if i get the drop on a thief then they’re dead in 2 seconds,
(though i’m dead if they get the drop on me)
then we have zerker war and zerker mediguard, both utterly destroy thieves in one quick flurry.
zerker SD engi goes very much the same way, hit buttons, watch thief explode.
TL:DR i disagree that thieves are a problem for zerkers.
assassin staff fire ele, 10k hp but you melt EVERYONE (unless they look at you XD)
6/4/0/2/2 (2 in water for 10% dmg ove 90%hp, 2 in arcane for Blasting Staff, 4 in air for arcane lightning, use scholar runes for another 10% dmg over 90% hp)
