Also, the current system tends to work I think for 5-man only. It’s not meant for solo queue. If we want solo queue, individual skill MUST be accounted for.
i see no possibility in a rotation based game to account for personal skill other than the current top stats (which only marginally reflect personal skill), unless there is a person sitting there, analyzing the game.
all i see is ways to exploit automated "personal" rating by going only for hi-value objectives or speccing for weird comps to exploit healing etc.

basically what you guys are saying is:
to be able to ascend in rank, you need to be able to carry 4 people all the time.
and that’s a load of bull...
there’s also professions which are hardcarry and professions which are no carry.
teef vs ele as a perfect example for both types. to succeed in teamfights, you need a team supporting profession which is either ele or whatever. if you play ele and your teammates do not understand how to rotate with an ele, you will lose the game.
if you play teef, you can decap and outrotate the enemy team all the time and win the game for your guys, unless they suck really really really hard.

to be honest, i can relate to OP. it get’s old when you get mixed up with people that die in a 4v1 (against 1 DH) while you manage to stay alive 1v3 for nearly the whole game on a marauder engi. it’s a 5 people team game. no 1 single person can be responsible for the win. to make someone suffer for the inaptitude of others is stupid.
my personal skill level should not be determined by how good the players on my team are, but how good i am.
Those people have no map awareness, no clue about rotations and don’t understand the principles of conquest. and you know what? i don’t blame them, because there’s no tutorial, no coached games, no integrated match recap so you can watch some pro games (like gw1 did) and there’s no incentive to learn because you even get rewards for losing. in no game you get a reward for losing, because you should encourage people to try to win. yknow, faito faito for goodie goodie. we’re not in kindergarden, we don’t need a consolation prize so we don’t cry. we lose, we improve, not lean back and enjoy rewards for losing.

although i voted for yes, i did it only because i want an ADDITIONAL soloQ/duoQ. I do NOT want to be forced to play unranked with my team, which provides no challenge whatsoever.
That being said, I am absolutely convinced, that, since this is a 5v5 team game, that you need to give people a strong incentive to play as a team. maybe apart from this stupid league/division trashloot-system, that’s not worth anything anyways. i’d like to see a proper ELO-based ranking, with automated tourneys, maybe make them time gated, starting 19:00-24:00 or something, to bundle the teams. hell, maybe bring back ESL-weekly. I don’t have the ultimate solution for you guys, but i can tell you one thing:
GW2-PvP is not a self runner. that much has been clearly proven in the past. you have to get active as devs AND as a community. bring back the competitive spirit of PvP, eliminate stupid pve-rewards, or make them all PvP-exclusive again. (I know, most of us were in favour of those changes back then, but seeing how this all played out, i’d rather take back the community as it was before and around 2014, before the reward tracks were introduced, before hordes of afk-ing and flaming freaks took over ranked Q, because all they care for are their PvE-reward, not the game itself... )
Remember early Counter Strike? There were no ingame rewards whatsoever, all there was were servers you could join and tourneys and ESL a bit later and it turned out one of, if not THE most successful esport game ever. I’d like to have that feeling back. I want to compete for the sake of competition. i want to compete in order to build my team, strive to get better, enter tournaments to win or lose, improve ourselves in every step of the way, but i can not do that without your help as devs, since everyone is focused on winning 2g in the dailies and getting super important pve-loot and an e-kitten enlargement for the legendary token next to their name.
i really hope your next approach to pvp brings back a strong pvp-spirit and you’re not driving this game, the best pvp-combat mmorpg at the moment, into a wall. i really do.

It was refreshing reading up and watching videos by CU developers when they discuss class designs, stealth, cc… and the players who make streams discussing those elements and going in depth… Don’t see that here from the devs, and very little from players. I see a dev team that creates all things around pve and shoves it into pvp modes then moves on and players niggling about a few traits, meanwhile, the core problems are completely ignored and remain unaddressed.
Never forget that City State Entertainments approach is something absolutely unique and new to the game of MMORPG-development. Also, in principle, Helseth mentioned ANETs transparency and communication, or rather the lack thereof, is a key-issue. If you, as a developer, communicate with your players and fans, you will most likely come up with ideas that suit exactly the people that support your game.
Mark Jacobs approach is successful BECAUSE he is talking to his player base, publishing every single step of the development, even up to a point where he cancelled the beta1-deadline they worked so hard to keep and he stepped in front of a camera in a public twitch stream, explained, without blaming any single employee, what the problem was, why they have to postpone beta1, even offered backers a money back guarantee and guess what, with a few exceptions of course, everyone was completely supportive and understanding and even offered help in any way possible. hell, they even fed the programmers during their heavy crunching time by donating pizza money! who would do that to a bunch of uncommunicative guys holed up in their office?
Another perfect example was that new approach by that ANET guy whose name i forgot, mea culpa, who worked on the MMR and tried to perfect the glicko2 system. He tried to explain everything he was allowed to discuss, partly even sharing lines of code to improve it, together, with and for the community. probably even in his own free time. people appreciated that, comments were mainly positive and people with a programming background offered help. that was nice. sadly, this completely stopped after some time and the dev-posts ceased to the old level, with a comment from grouch or gaile(not blaming them of course, since they’re some of the few left who take their time to respond to questions) from time to time and the negative comments came back, up to a point where the atmosphere became more toxic than anything else.
It’s nice to have a vision and to not strain from it, but let’s, for example, look at No Man’s Sky. Absolutely no communication whatsoever, faked, pre-rendered pictures and so on. Game gets released for 60 bucks and the almighty kittenstorm nearly blew away half the planets in the universe

If you were to redesign personal score, what would you do? Does it track different types of stats? Would you want your personal stats displayed to other players?
I personally would prefer a system similar to SMITE and other MOBA’s.
Display all the different personal stats at the match ending screen for ALL players on the match and eliminate points entirely. Maybe even log the stats to make them accessible later on to give teams the possibility to evaluate their games after a series of, let’s say 5-10 games.

S,D&R is the way to go, especially since the regen from soothing ice (still) doesn’t synergize with soothing wave and soothing disruption, so you don’t get a condiremove. you already have perma regen anyways, so a 20s cd frost aura is nice, but not as nice as negating chill and fire.

the new “system”, if you even want to call it that, is a nice idea, but let’s be honest, we get paired with whatever kitten kitten comes online, because the system clearly doesn’t work.
we got better MMR?
people with 2k+ ranked games get paired with/against people that played 20 hotjoin games tops. we played games against people that never even heard of pvp. even though you guys decided to remove the meaning of ranks, if a guy with deer or wolf finisher is paired against 5 dragons with well over 10k games in total, something in your algorith is broken.
we got better Q times?
q time average is 2:49 since the new system launched (i still think it’s a fixed value), yet i personally have yet to have a q time below 5 minutes EVER. all i ever hear from other people is: Q time below 5 minutes? never heard of it. for a premade team during prime time, 6-8 minutes seems normal.
we have no more 4v5s etc.
you read about it in the forums every day. i even remember games 3v5 or, my personal favourite: 2v3, because 3 guys of the enemy team and 2 of mine got pulled into another match. to be fair, i still don’t know how you want to fix people logging off, or afking, but this kitten is embarassing.
we have no stacking professions?
professions stack up to a point where it’s not even fun anymore. 3 eles, 3 engis, 3 thieves, 3 guards, 3 this, 3 that. whichever daily blablabla winner we have, the profs stack in soloQ.
i appreciate all the work you put in creating this system and quite frankly, we were at a point, where SOMETHING had to be done, ……. but as much as i respect your will to create something new, that kitten is so broken that it ruins the game for many people.
just do us all a favour and use a straightforward ELO rating, introduce seasons, bring back the old MMR (whatever it was, it somehow worked), maybe forget about decay and kitten, u don’t need it with seasons anyway…

So yesturday at foefire it’s my ranger vs opponents necro duel for a point. Before i even get close necro pops lich form, followed by my evil grin. I immobilize it and get behind it’s back for some free damage, and lo and behold. 2-3 seconds later i’m dead as I witness a lich form that is firing it’s projectiles 180 degrees opposite to direction it’s facing. Ate nice 6k+ blasts…
Isn’t this how it’s supposed to work or a bug?
actually, if you are immobilized and do not press any movement buttons and activate a skill, you character automatically turns in the direction of your target. maybe your client was out of synch so you didn’t see it or it is actually a display bug.
on a side note: pressing movement buttons AFTER activating a skill with a cast time automatically interrupts said skill and sometimes even puts it on full CD, kitten if i know why. weird kitten going on from time to time

without reading the rest of the posts, so maybe it has already been said, i can give you my roaming build:
switch out condi damage to pure DPS, if you want. i like to have the extra pressure from the burns, since you have only one big burst, but it’s not necessary. +7% extra damage makes a lot of ouchies on burning speed
but in general: focus counters warriors. ranged chill and ranged knockdown allows you to pin them down, your condi cleanse is unmatched and you can even fight multiple pewpew rangers, well, basically everything that has ranged weapons, without troubles. engis melt like butter, the blind negates mesmer and thief burst, the condis kills zerkers. basically the only thing that can and will happen, is that a s/w,GS warrior will just run away. he cannot win and he knows it. killshot warriors die to their own rifle skills, every f1 wonder build is countered by blinds as well....
the only thing that CAN take you down in a 1v1 is a very well played mediguard. it’s an even match, since you give up a lot of sustain which is usually the hardcounter to this build.
2v1 are doable, although mixed condi-DPS spike teams tend to have the upper hand due to poison spam from teef/ranger/engis.
i haven’t tested it against condi DF signet ele with scavenging rune, tho. might be a hardcounter, but i seriously doubt it.

depends on the situation.
in pvp:
run either sigil of battle (i will do the math with this now) or sigil of strength
start in air to enter combat, switch to fire (+3), precast ring of fire, switch to earth, magnetic grasp+dodge roll (+3 = 6),, earthquake+magnetic leap (+3=9 and fire aura +2 = 11 ), switch to water, frozen burst (+3=14) , air att, attack a bit (-2=12), switch back to fire (+3=15), do the attacks, precast ROF, switch to earth, magnetic grasp + dodge roll (+3 =18), switch to water, frozen burst (+3=21), switch to air, attack (-2=19) and repeat, you will hover between 17 and 22 stacks of might, depending on the time in which you can pull off this rotation.
using SoS if you can manage to stay connected to your opponent stacks might quicker than SoB, since it has a 1s internal cd and grants 1 stack of might for 13s (10+3 from hoelbrak) on a 60% chance on crit at a 50% crit chance with fury
using rune of strength with SoS caps you at 25, which you can easily maintain on the invincible training dummy. it’s completely different against a real opponent tho.
oh, and try not to get lost in this minigame, you have to fight the enemy as well. don’t waste your doges to blast finish in earth, when you would use them to survive instead.
in pve, all has been said, more or less. on staff, use eruption + lava font + arcane wave+ arcane brilliance, on dagger focus and scepter focus, rotations are a bit more complicated.
it is also possible to cap yourself off with 25 if you combine all your weapons and manage to switch them around while not in combat, but it is hardly necessary, since you usually have teammates that are well able to blast finish for you to cap off.

The regeneration boon that is applied through getting critically hit seems to be another regeneration than the one you get through Water IX “Soothing Disruption” or attunement switch and DOES NOT trigger Water XI “Cleansing Water”
just tried it multiple times in our pvp arena, it’s recreatable against every profession and every condition.
the regular regeneration from cantrips or attunement switch cleanses like it should.
is this working as intended or a bug?

so yeah, desolation is a nice server to roam outside of prime time, but as always, it highly depends on the enemy servers. if you’re up against SFR or the new FSP, you probably won’t have much fun. piken and gandara are highly anticipated matchup partners because of their guilds and strong roaming presence.

big love to all the participating teams. i really enjoyed every minute of this tournament. especially seeing heaven and earth losing after the great first round against the dankening made me kinda sad, but then again dank were a worthy opponent for all the other teams. except abjured maybe, since they apparently know them too well. all the teams showed nearly flawless gameplay, from focus res to precise cleaves, it was all very picturesque.

or you remove the godkitten ed AoE limit on certain skills in WvW already. this is one of the main, if not THE main aspect that rewards blobbing over <20 guild raids. if i, god forbid, place an explosive in a group of 50 stacked people, they will most probably ALL die, if the explosive was strong enough. not just 5 people. ALL of them.
you aren’t suppose/expected to defeat 5 times your number of human opponents anyway.
Skill exist and *is* important in WvW as long as the numbers aren’t ridiculously disproportionate. The hard rezing isn’t a problem. The number of opponents you decided to attack was. I’ve no problem about Yoloing myself into the fray but I won’t go whine about it when I hit the ground.
i’m not saying it should be easy to kill double your numbers or more and i am pretty sure that OP is not suggesting that either. but it’s a fact, that the combat system has it’s flaws when it comes to larger scale fights. to NOT complain about these flaws is not the way to get some improvements.
in the end, it is up to arena net to decide which course would be suited best, but until they reach a decision, it is up to US to suggest everything that comes to mind. even if it’s out of desperation and considered whining by some elite blob warriors.

i wouldn’t compare the gw2 elementalist to a DnD Mage tho. DPS is way too low, plus there’s no friendly fire and the AE cap pretty much ruins the comparison.
as for hard to catch,... staff ele has burning retreat, earth armor or maybe mist form and the obligatory blink. not much of an escaper, if you don’t count FGS movement skills.

Your current timeout is now inside the PvP panel, and players are warned with exactly how long their timeout will be when they try to decline or leave a match.
Is dishonored now changed in any sense, so for example that you don’t need 3 stacks of it that it really punishes you?
So how exactly would it play out if we say you get a dc, and in the game after that you get another one and so on. How is the scala?There is no ’3 strikes and you’re out’ anymore. The timeouts all happen immediately, they just get longer each time. Your first match disconnect is about a 15 minute timeout. If you disconnect immediately a second time, the timeout is about 45 minutes. However the more time between disconnects, the less harsh the timeout will be because the dishonor is slowly wearing off in the background. If you consistently leave back to back at every opportunity, the timeouts can get very extreme.
ok, basically, what you are saying is: after some ESL matches we’ve seen on your broken EU servers, both teams would actually be unable to play for 45+ minutes because both teams had multiple disconnects caused by your servers, not the clients.
This is not a rare incident. We train 3 days a week and not a day goes by with server delays, disconnects and horrible server performance, rendering blinks and ports and movement skills unusable (rubberbanding), even delays up to 5 seconds happening every 10 seconds, continued by multiple timeouts in both teams at the same time. fix your servers before punishing people for something YOU caused.

i really love the majority of the upcoming changes, but i have one question:
how will the new system handle disconnects? will you immediately get the dishonored on your account, or will it be "awarded" at the end of the game, giving the diconnectee (is that even a word?) the chance to return to the game?
in case of the former, i implore you, please fix your EU based servers first, before introducing such a mechanic. just today i spent 2,5 hrs with a teammate to fix his code 42 (flushdns works wonders, btw...)

too hard, too overtuned? if anything, the fights in this content were too long and easy to be really interesting. the mechanics were nice for a change (though i would have preferred a little alteration in the fights).
i want bosses that oneshot you, because they are bosses! make the AI responsive to your used skills, to applied conditions etc.
e.g. make them transfer condis and reflect large bursts incoming if they’re not stunned or whatnot. generally reduce bosses HP pool (in this episode, they were fine tho, but dungeon bosses with 0 mechanics... yawn).
also, for the karmatrainers and complainers in here, make living story playable by choice. if you feel you cannot put up with having to dodge and to be actually playing the game, release a cutscene movie with your character in it, so they can watch it without being overwhelmed by those absolutely unbeatable and horrendously hard game mechanics.
also, revert arah p4, siminn is too easy now.

i think we can all agree that the RNG factor of this game in a competitive environment like pvp (and wvw to some extent) is too high. i do not have a solution ready, but i really do think, that especially the top players of this game should definitely be more involved in the balancing discussion. now, the forum is a great place to share ideas and discuss them, but to be honest, there are way too many threads about nerf this and that as it is. there needs to be a secluded area for people who actually know what they are talking about (not counting myself in there ofc, so don’t go all rage mode on me).
lately, there’s been a significant increase of forum activity by EU and NA top tier teams and players, this should show devs and players alike that, although the balancing improves with each feature pack (imo), the goal is far from reached and there HAS to be more customer interaction coming from anet. especially now that gw2 is slowly becoming the ehspurtz it always aimed to be.

Just think of PvP’ers as people in the military, they get paid, its not crazy amazing and its not dirt poor either. As a PvE’er you can get crazy rich, but as a PvP’er you can get your name etched in stone and talked about throughout the lands of Tyria.

This is coming from someone who just played 12 hrs straight against BG and TC.

my 2 cents to scoring: the tick is the whole problem: you can win huge fights, wipe whole zergs and multiple guildraids and get absolutely nothing from it, because you take the objective (let’s take garri for example. always huge fights if not sneaked) at 12 mins to tick after fighting for 35 minutes and at 3 minutes, a ttm combo take the garri back and you’ve gained absolutely nothing, but wasted 35 minutes on a more than annyoing fight against respawning enemy troops.
my proposal: either reduce global tick time to, let’s say 1 minute or rework the system to a points per minutes held system.
additionally, reward more points per stomp with full bloodlust. do not go for simple points per kill. stomping has to be done!
as for night scoring: analyze server coverage and calculate the percentage of maximum possible players on the border/wvw in general. that’s the percentage of points scored per tick. and since you don’t like to reveal any numbers, make it grouped in quartes.
an example: let’s say Seafarers Black Bay, an EU+NA server with good night coverage, has special night capping guilds or someone who organizes a nightshift for all the abroad people, and they completely reset their enemies home borders +EB, while they are all sleeping, because they have to work or go to school, university, whatever, and this is still just a game, so nobody would mess up their RL because of it (hopefully). at the moment, this would mean clean 600 points, every 15 minutes for, let’s say, 6 hours equalling 14,400 points, let’s say 3 nights a week are 43,2k by night capping alone, with no resistance at all.
while those 54k points were scored, there were 15 people in total, over every border+eb, of a maximum number of, ... let’s say 100 on borders (300) and 200 on EB, for the calc, 500 per server * 3 = 1500 in total. 15 people filling 1500 slots equals a 1% world coverage. that doesn’t seem fair to me.
using my system, 15 of 1500 people, 1% of 1500, gives one quarter (0,25) of the maximum possible score (14,4k), resulting in 3,600 points.
no work, no rewards.

face it people. if there were any games with comparable or better combat system out there, we’d all have quit about a year ago, when it became obvious, that anet management is apparently stupid or only in it for the money (or got replaced by a korean borg).
it is heartbreaking, but at this rate i would say, that this game won’t live to see it’s third birthday. completely wrong focus and calls by management. wrong people forced to leave or probably fired for speaking their mind. face it korean capitalistic borg, we’re looking straight through your schemes and i can tell you one thing:

its not about dodging the airspike, its about dodging the hard hitting combos
while this is true for the most professions, the super glass cannons in this game (thief, assassins mesmer, etc) can be downed alone by earthquakeblinkstonesplintersattunementswitch23 combo (4+2+3+2+3 = 15k crit without might), provided the ele bothered to stack a little might around the corner first.
s/d ele has up to this date the hardest and fastest hitting combo in this game. luckily it needs very much practice and the ele itself gets so super squishy, or else it would be veryvery OP

at some point i wish the EU and NA PvP forums were separated, so i know what the OPs are talking about.
i had an alt parked on BG some time, pvp in NA seems surely a lot more dead and horribly matched than in EU, then again, i recently get roflstomped by cheesemode etc. a lot.
