With ques as they are this is getting out of hand. Furthermore duelers are know to break siege on the nearby wall to “prevent griefing”. Anet gave them an arena in OS, they gave them an arena in guild halls, and of course sPvP. To be dueling in WvW these days has no excuse.

I’m sorry; I really don’t understand this attitude! It seems to me that you are saying that since you want to play WvW “as Anet intended” .. which reads to me as “I want to play the game”, that someone who has as much right (since they too bought the game) to be there and duel doesn’t in fact have that right.

And then you quote several spurious reasons why they cannot.

Anet made OS specially for them. Wrong! OS now was re-designed to pander to the GvG community to shut out their complaints when the outcry began against the Anet employee who griefed the GvG community broke.

Duellers take up queue spaces: And? They want to duel in WvW .. let them.. they have the right to do so.

Duellers should go to PvP: so duellers who want the freedom to gear up how they want (and are constrained by the PvP restrictions) should just put up with it because it’s difficult for karma-trainers to get on EBG?

EBG has always had a strong duelling element. I have no problem with them .. nor am I one of them. In fact .. I find duellers to be the most polite and considerate players (in the main) of all the WvW players ..

I’m all for gliding in WvW as well.. it’s the one HoT mastery I’ve made an effort to build up out of them all. Just so much fun. Also … what’s the point of wings if you can’t actually make use of them?

So… basically everyone’s favourite memory is on the Alpine Borderlands? Yeah! Sad reflection that the makers of the game decided to retire the one aspect of the game that made it so special for just about the greater majority of it’s players.

For me, BTW, it was the 1+ hours battles for Garri.. on the Alpines naturally.

Well guys, thanks to Nitro’s advice, I have fixed the issue.
Opened it up and moved the GPU to another slot. Re-booted and went safe mode. I followed Maze’s advice and used DDU to uninstall the GPU drivers. I installed AMD Crimson 16.1.

On re-boot, went into GPU-Z utility and tested. Straight away it went to x16 v3.0. I tested in GW2. FPS in full graphics now gives me 50 fps.

I’m a happy puppy.

It also looks like you are running an old driver for your graphics card (or perhaps its the latest on the microsoft update program). Either way it is advisable to update to the latest version for your graphics card.

I’m running the Crimson drivers version 15.3? I checked updates last night and got the Up to Date message. But will do a clean install.

Most likely not a bug – but I need help to fix this issue.
Up until last week, my GW2 experience was flawless on my PC. I acquired a new PC for my personal use which is a step up from my previous one and installed GW2 (I also download gw2-64, which is what I used by default). My new setup is as follows:

In short, this should be as good if not better than my previous PC.

I was therefore, shocked, when all I could manage was 3 FPS with the graphics set to Auto. I lowered the graphics to lowest and the best I could manage was 11 FPS. The network connection was fine .. tested that. I carried out the -diag test. I’ve attached the not network log.

I also ran a test using GPU-Z senser but I’m bu99ered if I can make head or tails of that (ran the monitoring while I stood/ran about in Lion’s Arch on lowest setting for a few minutes). I also took ascreenshot of the screen:

Would very much appreciate some advice.. starting to get withdrawal symptoms :-(

I started feeling the withdrawal symptoms last night (0:00 GMT) when I put my purpose-built (for post-release Reaper use) Ascended Greatsword away in my bank because I don’t trust Anet to not get things wrong when the deduct all the Beta ‘gains’ (did anyone else have a nightmare that you finally got Dusk while playing your beta character? :-) )

I absolutely love my Reaper! (“You critically hit for 15,000 with gravedigger.” LOL!)

I believe the PPK doesn’t add to the tick (the points attributed to each 15 or w/e period). This is purely the current number of camps, towers and keeps + the castle if owned at any one moment. The ‘tick’ is whatever those points are at the turnover point (when the counter hits zero and the counter starts again). Any PPK (including sentries and yaks) is added directly to the score.

I had the same problem reported (except got a crash dialog .. Anet will have got at least 3 from me now ).
Fixed by running -windowed.

However, once running, if I switch to full screen, it crashes immediately (crash dump also sent for this instance)

The Fight Arena promised by Anet for Guildhalls may present the opportunity for guilds that you are looking for .. not sure. Guess it depends on the size of it, and whatever the ‘rules’ are that Anet impose.

The new F2P players are effectively the ‘next generation’ of WvWers and you want to stop them from experiencing the ‘real’ WvW? How is that sensible?

And can’t help feeling that your reasoning is flawed:

• Cheats and Spies: F2P may increase the numbers but it takes a dedicated kinf of person to dedicate his/her time to that activity. And I very much doubt that this has a pivotal impact on a MU. Yes – it is annoying. But I also suspect that a good proportion of the spying and hacking excuses I’ve seen are the justification of a loss that was always going to happen.
• Queues: Seriously? How quickly we forget the size of the queues into the borderlands in the ‘good old days’ in the first 2 years of this game. Queues are a sign of a dynamic and living game mode. Start praying for them, then start hassling Anet to find ways of improving the situation.

I spend 90% of my time in WvW. I want to see more people there across all timezones. Now that there’s a chance of seeing that happen, you all want to stop it?

The patch messed something up when large numbers are nearby. It may even be specific effects that cause it. In the FSP vs Gandara vs Deso matchup I have noticed a tendancy to mass crash/dc when facing Deso blobs, for some reason. Could be coincidence of course, lol.

Either way, the patch broke things.

Deso had their fair share of dc’s as well
Especially on the road between camp and south gate Bay on Deso BL. We became paranoid about fighting in that particular patch .. kind of amusing.

Though not as amusing as the crash [TT] experienced during our fight. As soon as our melee hit them, they all disappeared. Definitely a W T F moment! Knew how they felt though.. Funnier still is that [TT] were being supported by [MV], and were left standing all alone in a sea of Deso warriors – as soon as the shock of seeing [TT] disappear faded, poor [MV] got the full weight of the Deso blob hit them like a ten-ton truck. Ouch…

The fact that so many Necromancers are crying over 4s of Vul is ridiculous. We should just be happy we still have it get rid of ALL conditions on us still, like so many other classes dont have.

I was playing in a PvP match … and as usual, being focused by 2 opponents .. an engi and a n other. I found myself with a tonful of condi on me .. no problem: a ‘quick’ Consume (LOL – quick! ) .. and they instantly re-applied. Before I had a chance to transfer (which was the plan in my head), I was down. The 10 stacks of Vul really, really didn’t help! :-(

I’d be inclined to replace the trait Death’s Embrace with Reaper’s Might .
And strongly recommend switching out one of the air sigils for energy.. that could be your life saver.

As to the spectral utilities, I’m favouring spectral armor at the moment. As Necros, we’re just focused way to often!

Joking aside.. Deathly Claws is the one that gives you the highest damage … but … skill 5 Grim Specter is a huge lifesaver .. massive boon strip and massive condi clear if it hits.

When I’m not in ‘see red berskerer’ mode, I’ll usually start with (3) Chilling Wind to slow them down, followed by (2) Marked for Death for the 8 stacks of vuln, then 1, 1, 1, 1, 1… till downed.

I would agree with the OP and others here.. or better still, be able to visit the stats of matches whenever I like afterwards. This for me could be in-game or online. After all, they let you log onto Guildwars2.com to check out leaderboard and achies and such, why not store your match stats as well?

I’ve been having similar issues today (later than above .. sometime after 9:30PM GMT+1) .. also on Desolation.

Assumed it’s because BT sent me a new Home Hub (v5 .. used to have the v4) but logged on to my alt account on NA and everything was fine.

On this account (Deso account) I’m seeing fluctuations of my ping in game between 56 and 400+.

Desolation BL, South Bay. Small scale skirmish (3 to 4 SFR, 4 to 5 Deso). No great numbers on map (unless there was a sudden influx I wasn’t aware off). Not on TS at the time. Happened literally 3 minutes ago (09:55 BST)

Ranked is usually fine. Unranked is really toxic. Just send the ragers some bags of salt and on to the next game. Dont let yourself get turned off of sPvP because of ragers.

Never been to ranked (I still feel like I have a lot to learn .. 40 matches in unranked is nothing really), so can’t comment on that.
Unranked has been a pleasant surprise. TBH, considering the competetive nature of PvP, I was expecting a lot more abuse towards me, but I’ve only experienced it maybe twice. Once directly which, the player was kind of justified [borderline .. he was downed in a 2 v 1 we were having against I think a turret engie, I managed to down the engie, then got downed as well. I think he expected me to rez him .. my bad]. The second time when one of my team broadcast to all of us that we were pants .. We were.

But, in both those cases, it was fairly mild abuse .. shrug shoulders, get on with it.

In unranked, if any thing, I think there isn’t enough communication between the team members. And by that, I don’t mean ausive comms .. I mean any comms!

Gotta love it when 5 choose Temple, 4 choose Forest and 1 chooses Courtyard… and Courtyard gets the winning vote..

the gw2 score still updates the PPK

The “not from tick” score also includes yaks, sentries, and bloodlust stomps—it was impossible to judge how much of that included PPK during the sneak attack event.

There was a significant increase in the ‘not-from-tick’ percentages during those PPK weeks.. which dropped back to old levels after the test. My experience of PPK test was very positive.

One factor no-one has mentioned is that during that time, GvG oriented guilds were actually very useful to the PPT aspect of the game.. their scrims and matches were contributing.

I’m on the bring it back permanently camp. (Not necessarily white swords bit tho – I think the jury is still out on that).

As someone who only recently started playing the sPVP game mode (having started out exclusively PVE then moved into WvW about 2 years ago), the problem for me has been finding relevant up-to-date info on the mechanics of PvP.
I tried practice .. briefly! Literally .. went in .. decided that this just wasn’t for me. Brought to mind Quake FFA servers .. fun but mindless .. I outgrew that.

That left me with 2 choices: Unranked or Ranked. Clearly, it would have been stupid for me to join Ranked .. so unranked it is. And actually? It’s been a great experience. I’m enjoying it .. and the one time I noticed chat about me, it was cordial and enjoyable chat.

Having said that .. because I went in a virgin to PvP, I must have been annoying as hell to some of the more experienced players. I double capped (under the impression that it would speed up capping .. wrong I know now thanks to the site .. still out-dated .. that I found). And sometimes I avoid ressing (I’m a Necro and suffer all the effects that Necros suffer from) if that would mean I’d be downed as well .. same for stomp.

But this is a learning process and I’ll pick it up – just as I did in WvW ..
What I don’t need as a newbie is someone being abusive or derogatory by way of educating me..

Is this first hand experience of what happened? I don’t think so.. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t throw generalisations and comment on details from one side of the matter only.

To the OP – you need to chill out. I understand it can be frustrating but there are good times to be had, and ways to have them. I had a blast on Monday night with a 6/7 man snipe group, and a 2 guild co-op raid was very satisfying with plenty of fun fights last night.

In order for this change (removal of crossed swords) to be even remotely beneficial, Anet have to deliver a good enough reward system to encourage scouts. Seen a lot on this thread about lack of numbers on low-pop servers, and how boring scouting is. I agree that scouting can be boring and is a huge problem .. but I believe that this goes across the board.. ALL servers have difficulty finding dedicated scouts. It just isn’t worth it.

But it needn’t be that way. If scouting provided a good reward system: achievement points, gold, WEXP and EXP, Karma even, then scouting will become attractive to the low-level WvW player and the PvE achievement hunter. When we refer to low-population servers in this forum, we’re generally referring to the WvW population. Increase the rewards for defensive play (increase the rewards to EotM levels for dolly escorting, defending keeps, towers, and camp; building defensive siege; being in a tower, keep or camp you own at the tick turn-over point), and, crucially, reduce the rewards for kills (or to be precise: increase the threshold at which a kill gives a reward.). These are changes that will encourage people who are low-level to carry out tasks that have a smaller risk attached to them but still pay dividends to the server.

Seems to me that the way to divorce rewards from bandwagoning is to not give rewards for winning – but rather allocate rewards to completing a weekly achievement.

I’ve advocated WvW weekly achievement before – I think it would be a great way to attract players to WvW. If you also provide reward tickets (in the same way as you get a Daily for completing daily achievements), this would give a further incentive.

Coming first should be a matter of pride. Playing the game well should give the reward but coming first, as we all sadly know, doesn’t necessarily mean you played better.

As we are in the middle of the tournament, and since the 9/9 patch, commander tags have become a wee bit more complex. For someone new to WvW, follow these steps and you should be fine:

1. Find out if your World has a common forum that you can join (eg: SFR is www.pevepe.net; Desolation is www.desospeak.com), join it and introduce yourself. There will be a process of verification, normally involving being on a WvW map and identifying yourself.
2. Download and install your World’s preferred VOIP client (TS3 or mumble), get verified (again .. dem spies!), and listen to the chatter. No need to talk .. but vital for communications to listen. This is how you find out what’s going on, more often than not.
3. Keep your eye on the map chat, team chat and say chat .. more info goes there, but since these are visible to spies who may not have got themselves verified on VOIP, most die-hards are more wary of where the action is.
4. Check the protocol your World has chosen for commander colours. I suspect that most worlds have chosen Blue tag to be open map tag (everyone welcome), Red tag to be a closed raid (guild or otherwise – generally they will not want tag-along PUGs – respect that), and the other 2 colours indicating anything from snipe teams, havoc squads and scouts. Generally, you’ll be looking for the blue tag, but in the absence of a blue, check if there’s a yellow or purple tag that needs party members and ask to join them.
5. If you’ve spent most of your time in PvE, you may not have suitable gear for WvW. As a rule of thumb, a good start point is getting PVT gear (easily obtainable with both Karma and Badges on the BLs).
6. If you are not at level 80, be wary. You may get a bit of grief for being upscaled.. don’t let it get you down. You may want to consider EotM if upscaled .. this is a great place for EXP of both types. Just be aware that as an upscaled, you are less likely to be able to survive in battles, and can potentially rally enemy by dying at critical points during a fight, and turning the tide against your side. Rule of thumb is don’t be brave .. be the stomper on the outskirts of a fight.

First off, join the Desolation Community forum at http://www.desospeak.com.
Register, then follow the instruction to be verified as a bona fide Desolation defender.

Download and install TS3. You will find instructions of what to do next in order to be vrified on TS which will get you access to the WvW channels (you will need to get into WvW as part of this step).

Once you’ve been verified and have the appropriate permissions, you will be able to get to the channels where you can become an integral part of the Desolation WvW community.

The tournament will take place on EB and the borderlands.. EotM is not part of the tourney. There will be plenty to do: join the open tag (Blue dorito), become a member of a snipe team, help out by scouting, or become a Yak-Nanny.
